¹ After the death of Moses the servant of Yahweh, Yahweh said to Joshua son of Nun, the assistant* of Moses, saying, ² "My servant Moses is dead. Get up and cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ³ Every place that the soles of your feet will tread, I have given it to you, as I promised* to Moses. ⁴ From the wilderness _⌊and the Lebanon_⌋,* up to the great river, the river Euphrates, all of the land of the Hittites, and up to _⌊the great sea in the west_⌋,* will be your territory. ⁵ No one will stand before you* all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so will I be with you; I will not fail you, and I will not forsake you. ⁶ Be strong and courageous, for you will give the people this land as an inheritance that I swore to their ancestors* to give them. ⁷ Only be strong and very courageous _⌊to observe diligently the whole law_⌋* that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn aside from it, to the right or left, so that you may succeed _⌊wherever you go_⌋.* ⁸ The scroll of this law will not depart from your mouth; you will meditate on it day and night so that _⌊you may observe diligently all that is written_⌋* in it. For then you will succeed in your ways and prosper. ⁹ Did I not command you? Be strong and courageous! Do not fear or be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you _⌊wherever you go_⌋."* ¹⁰ Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, ¹¹ "Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people: 'Prepare your provisions;* _⌊in_⌋* three days you are to cross the Jordan to go possess the land that Yahweh your God is giving you to possess.'" ¹² To the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh Joshua said, ¹³ "Remember the word that Moses Yahweh's servant commanded you, saying, 'Yahweh your God is giving rest to you, and he is giving* you this land.' ¹⁴ Your wives, your little children, and your livestock, they will remain in the land that Moses gave to you beyond the Jordan. _⌊All of the best fighting men_⌋* will cross armed in front of your families; they will help you ¹⁵ until Yahweh gives rest to your families as well as to you. They will take possession of the land that Yahweh your God is giving to them. Then you will return to your own land and take possession of it, the land that Moses the servant of Yahweh gave you beyond the Jordan _⌊to the east_⌋."* ¹⁶ And they answered Joshua, saying, "All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you will send us we will go. ¹⁷ Just as we obeyed Moses, so will we obey you. Only may Yahweh your God be with you, as he was with Moses. ¹⁸ Whoever _⌊rebels against your orders_⌋* and does not obey your words according to what you commanded us will be put to death. Only be strong and courageous."

⁹ And Moses said to Joshua, "Choose men for us, and go out, fight against Amalek tomorrow. I will be standing on the top of the hill, and the staff of God will be in my hand." ¹⁰ And Joshua did as Moses had said to him to fight with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. ¹¹ And* when Moses raised his hand, Israel would prevail, but when he rested his hand, Amalek would prevail. ¹² But the hands of Moses were heavy, and they took a stone and placed it under him, and he sat on it; Aaron and Hur supported his hands, _⌊one on each side_⌋,* and his hands were steady until _⌊sundown_⌋.* ¹³ And Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the _⌊edge of the sword_⌋.*

¹³ And Moses got up, and Joshua, his assistant, and Moses went up to the mountain of God.

²⁸ And Joshua son of Nun, the assistant of Moses from time of his youth, answered, "Moses, my lord, stop them."

⁷ Not so with my servant Moses; in all my house he is faithful.

⁸ from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun;

¹⁶ These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to explore the land. And Moses called Hoshea son of Nun Joshua.

³⁸ Joshua, the son of Nun, _⌊your assistant_⌋,* will go there; encourage him because he will cause Israel to inherit it.

³ Yahweh your God is about to cross _⌊before you_⌋;* he will destroy these nations _⌊before you_⌋,* and you shall dispossess them. Joshua will be crossing _⌊before you_⌋,* just as Yahweh _⌊promised_⌋.*

²³ Then he* told Joshua the son of Nun, and said to him, "Be strong and be courageous, for you shall bring the _⌊Israelites_⌋* into the land that I swore to them, and I will be with you."

¹ Now* this is the blessing with which Moses, the man of God, blessed the _⌊Israelites_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* his death.

⁵ Then Moses, the servant of Yahweh, died there in the land of Moab _⌊according to the command of Yahweh_⌋.*

⁹ Now* Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom because Moses had placed his hands on him, and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* listened to him, and they did as Yahweh had commanded Moses.

⁶ Moses Yahweh's servant and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* defeated them; and Moses Yahweh's servant gave it as a possession to the Reubenites,* the Gadites,* and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

¹⁶ and Jehu son of Nimshi you shall anoint as king over Israel. You shall also anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel-Meholah as prophet in your place.

¹¹ Then Jehoshaphat asked, "Is there no prophet of Yahweh here that we might inquire guidance from Yahweh?" One of the servants of the king of Israel answered and said, "Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah."*

²⁷ So she came to the man of God at the mountain, and she caught hold of his feet. Then Gehazi came near to push her away, but the man of God said, "Let her alone, for her soul is bitter, and Yahweh has hidden it from me and has not told me." ²⁸ Then she said, "Did I ask for a son from my lord? Did I not say that you must not mislead me?" ²⁹ Then he said to Gehazi, "Gird up your loins and take my staff in your hand and go. If you meet anyone, you must not greet them; if anyone greets you, you must not answer them. You must put my staff on the face of the boy."

²⁵ When he went and stood by his master, Elisha asked him, "From where have you come, Gehazi?" And he said, "Your servant has not gone _⌊anywhere_⌋."* ²⁶ Then he said to him, "Did not my heart go with you as the man turned from on his chariot to meet you? Is it time to take silver, clothes, olive orchards, vineyards, sheep, oxen, male slaves, and female slaves? ²⁷ The skin disease of Naaman shall cling to you and to your offspring forever." Then he went out from before him having a skin disease like the snow.

²⁶ It will not be like this among you! But whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, ²⁷ and whoever wants to be most prominent among you must be your slave—

¹⁰ "The one who is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and the one who is dishonest in very little is also dishonest in much.

⁴⁵ and which, after* receiving it* in turn, our fathers brought in with Joshua _⌊when they dispossessed the_⌋* nations that God drove out from the presence of our fathers, until the days of David,

³⁶ For David, after* serving the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and _⌊was buried with_⌋* his fathers, and experienced decay. ³⁷ But he whom God raised up did not experience decay.

¹⁸ and the one who lives, and I was dead, and behold, I am living _⌊forever and ever_⌋*, and I hold the keys of death and of Hades.

¹⁶ "Let Yahweh, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the community ¹⁷ who will go out before them and will come in before them, and who will lead them out and bring them in, so the community of Yahweh will not be like a flock that does not have a shepherd." ¹⁸ Then Yahweh said to Moses, "Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and place your hand on him. ¹⁹ Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before the entire community, and _⌊commission him_⌋* _⌊in their sight_⌋.* ²⁰ You will give to him from your authority so that the entire community of Israel will _⌊obey him_⌋.* ²¹ He will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will ask for him by the decision* of the Urim before Yahweh. On _⌊his command_⌋* they will go out, and at _⌊his command_⌋* they will come in, both he and all of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* with him, the entire community."

²⁸ Now instruct Joshua and support him and encourage him because he himself* will cross over before this people and enable them to inherit the land that you will see.'

⁷ Then Moses summoned Joshua, and he said to him _⌊in the presence of all Israel_⌋,* "Be strong and be courageous, for you will go with this people into the land that Yahweh swore to their ancestors* to give to them, and you will give it to them as an inheritance.

¹ After the death of Moses the servant of Yahweh, Yahweh said to Joshua son of Nun, the assistant* of Moses, saying,

¹¹ "Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people: 'Prepare your provisions;* _⌊in_⌋* three days you are to cross the Jordan to go possess the land that Yahweh your God is giving you to possess.'"

¹ Look! here is my servant; I hold him, my chosen one, in whom my soul delights. I have _⌊put_⌋* my spirit on him; he will bring justice forth to the nations.

⁵ And Moses was faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony to the things that would be spoken, ⁶ but Christ was faithful* as a son over his house, whose house we are, if* we hold fast to our confidence and the hope we can be proud of.

²³ And indeed many _⌊have become_⌋* priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, ²⁴ but he, because he continues _⌊forever_⌋*, holds the priesthood permanently.

²⁴ Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, it shall be yours; your boundary shall be from the desert and Lebanon from the river, the river Euphrates, on up to the western sea.*

⁹ And Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land that your foot has trodden on will be an inheritance to you and your sons forever, because you remained true to Yahweh my God.'

² in the hope of eternal life which God, who does not lie, promised before eternal ages,

¹⁸ On that day Yahweh _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with Abram saying, "To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates river, ¹⁹ the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, ²⁰ the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, ²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."

³¹ " 'And I will set your boundary from the _⌊Red Sea_⌋* and up to the sea of the Philistines and from the desert up to the river,* because I will give the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you will drive them out from before you.

² "Command the _⌊Israelites_⌋* and say to them, 'When you come into the land of Canaan, this is the land that was allotted to you as an inheritance, the land of Canaan according to its boundaries. ³ Your southern edge will be from the desert of Zin toward the side of Edom, and your southern border will be from the end of the Salt Sea* to the east; ⁴ your boundary will turn from the south to the ascent of Akrabbim* and will pass over to Zin, and its limits will be from the south of Kadesh Barnea; it will continue to Hazar Addar and pass over to Azmon. ⁵ The boundary will turn from Azmon to the valley of Egypt, and its limits will be to the sea. ⁶ " 'Your western boundary will be the Great Sea;* this will be your western boundary. ⁷ Your northern border will be from the Great Sea;* you will make a boundary from the Great Sea* to Mount Hor. ⁸ From Mount Hor you will make a boundary to reach Hamath; the limits of the territory will be at Zedad. ⁹ The boundary will go out to Ziphron, and its limits will be at Hazar Enan. This will be your boundary to the north. ¹⁰ " 'You will mark out your eastern boundary from Hazar Enan to Shepham; ¹¹ the boundary will go down from Shepham to Riblah from the east side of Ain, and the boundary will go down and border on the eastern side of the Sea of Kinnereth. ¹² The boundary will go down to the Jordan, and its limits will be at the Salt Sea.* This will be your land according to its boundaries all around.'" ¹³ So Moses commanded the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, "This is the land that you will obtain as an inheritance for yourself by lot, which Yahweh commanded to give to the nine and a half tribes. ¹⁴ For the tribe of the children of the Reubenites,* the children of the Gadites,* and the half-tribe of Manasseh took their inheritance according to the house of their families.* ¹⁵ The two and a half tribes have taken their inheritance from beyond the Jordan across Jericho, east toward the sunrise." ¹⁶ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁷ "These are the names of the men who divide up the land for your inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun. ¹⁸ You will take one leader from every tribe to divide up the land for inheritance.

⁷ Turn now and _⌊move on_⌋,* and go into the hill of the Amorites* and to all of the neighboring regions* in the Jordan _⌊Valley_⌋* in the hill country and in the Negev and in the coastal area along the sea, into the land of the Canaanites* and into the Lebanon, as far as the great river Euphrates.

²⁵ Let me cross over, please, and let me see the good land _⌊that is beyond the Jordan_⌋,* this good hill country and Lebanon.'

⁹ He also lived to the east up to the entrance of the desert _⌊this side of_⌋* the River Euphrates, for their livestock had multiplied in the land of Gilead.

³ And David struck Hadadezer, king of Zobah-Hamath, as he set up his monument at the Euphrates River.

¹² And he said, "Because I am with you, and this will be the sign for you that I myself have sent you: When you bring the people out from Egypt, you will serve God on this mountain."

²⁴ And he will give their kings into your hand, and you shall blot out their names* from under the heaven; anyone will not be able to stand _⌊against you_⌋* _⌊until you destroy them_⌋.*

⁴ for Yahweh your God is going with you to fight for you against your enemies to help you.'

⁶ Be strong and be courageous; you should not be afraid, and you _⌊should not be in dread from their presence_⌋,* for Yahweh your God is the one going with you; he will not leave you alone and he will not forsake you." ⁷ Then Moses summoned Joshua, and he said to him _⌊in the presence of all Israel_⌋,* "Be strong and be courageous, for you will go with this people into the land that Yahweh swore to their ancestors* to give to them, and you will give it to them as an inheritance. ⁸ Yahweh is the one going _⌊before you_⌋;* he will be with you, and he will not leave you alone, and he will not forsake you; you shall not be afraid, and you shall not be discouraged."

⁹ Did I not command you? Be strong and courageous! Do not fear or be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you _⌊wherever you go_⌋."*

¹⁷ Just as we obeyed Moses, so will we obey you. Only may Yahweh your God be with you, as he was with Moses.

⁷ Then Yahweh said to Joshua, "This day I will begin exalting you _⌊in the sight_⌋* of all Israel, that they may know that I was with Moses, and I will be with you.

²⁷ So Yahweh was with Joshua, and his fame was in all the land.

¹¹ Yahweh of Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our high stronghold.

¹⁰ You must not fear, for I am with you; you must not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, indeed I will help you, indeed I will take hold of you with the right hand of my salvation. ¹¹ Look! All those who are angry with you shall be ashamed and humiliated; _⌊your opponents_⌋* shall be like nothing and shall become lost. ¹² You shall seek them, but* you shall not find them; _⌊your opponents_⌋* shall be like nothing, and the men of your war like nothing. ¹³ For I, Yahweh your God, am grasping your right hand; _⌊it is I who say_⌋* to you, "You must not fear; I myself, I will help you. ¹⁴ You must not fear, O worm of Jacob; people of Israel, I myself, I will help you," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and your redeemer is the holy one of Israel.

² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not flow over you. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not scorch* you. ³ For I am Yahweh, your God, the holy one of Israel, your savior. I give you Egypt as ransom, Cush and Seba in place of you. ⁴ Because you are precious in my eyes, you are honored, and I myself love you, and I give people in place of you, and nations in place of your life. ⁵ You must not fear, for I am with you. I will bring your _⌊offspring_⌋* from the east, and I will gather you from the west.

²⁰ teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the age."

⁹ And the Lord said to Paul by a vision in the night, "Do not be afraid, but speak and do not keep silent, ¹⁰ because I am with you and no one will attack you to harm you, because many people are mine in this city."

³¹ What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

³⁷ No, but in all these things we prevail completely through the one who loved us.

¹⁷ But the Lord helped me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fulfilled and all the Gentiles might hear, and he rescued me from the lion's mouth.

⁵ Your lifestyle must be free from the love of money, being content with what you have. For he himself has said, "I will never desert you, and I will never abandon you."*

³ Dwell as an alien in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you, for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham you father.

¹⁷ "These are the names of the men who divide up the land for your inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun. ¹⁸ You will take one leader from every tribe to divide up the land for inheritance. ¹⁹ These are the names of the men: of the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh; ²⁰ of the tribe of the descendants of Simeon, Samuel son of Ammihud; ²¹ of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad son of Chislon; ²² of the tribe of the descendants* of Dan, the leader Bukki son of Jogli; ²³ of the descendants* of Joseph, the tribe of the descendants* of Manasseh, the leader Hanniel son of Ephod. ²⁴ Of the tribe of the descendants* of Ephraim, the leader Kemuel son of Shiphtan; ²⁵ of the tribe of the descendants* of Zebulum, the leader Elizaphan son of Parnach; ²⁶ of the tribe of the descendants* of Issachar, the leader Paltiel son of Azzan; ²⁷ of the tribe of the descendants* of Asher, the leader Ahihud son of Shelomi; ²⁸ of the tribe of the descendants* of Naphtali, the leader Pedahel son of Ammihud." ²⁹ These are those whom Yahweh commanded to allot to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* the land of Canaan.

⁶ Be strong and be courageous; you should not be afraid, and you _⌊should not be in dread from their presence_⌋,* for Yahweh your God is the one going with you; he will not leave you alone and he will not forsake you." ⁷ Then Moses summoned Joshua, and he said to him _⌊in the presence of all Israel_⌋,* "Be strong and be courageous, for you will go with this people into the land that Yahweh swore to their ancestors* to give to them, and you will give it to them as an inheritance.

⁷ Only be strong and very courageous _⌊to observe diligently the whole law_⌋* that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn aside from it, to the right or left, so that you may succeed _⌊wherever you go_⌋.*

⁹ Take courage and be men, you Philistines, lest you end up serving the Hebrews just like they have served you. Be men and fight!"

² "I am about to go the way of all the world. Be strong and be _⌊courageous_⌋.*

¹³ Then you will prosper if you take care to do the statutes and judgments which Yahweh commanded Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and be courageous; fear not and do not be dismayed.

¹⁰ Look now, for Yahweh has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong and do it!"

⁷ "Be strong! Be courageous! Do not fear and do not be dismayed before the king of Assyria and before all the crowd that is with him, for there are more with us than with him. ⁸ With him is the arm of flesh, and with us is Yahweh our God, to help us and to fight our battles." And the people took confidence with the words of Hezekiah, king of Judah.

¹⁴ Wait for Yahweh. Be strong and let your heart show strength, and wait for Yahweh.

³ Strengthen the weak hands and make the staggering knees firm. ⁴ Say to those who are hasty of heart,
"Be strong; you must not fear! Look! your God will come with vengeance, with _⌊divine retribution_⌋.* He _⌊is the one who_⌋* will come and save you."

¹⁹ And he said, "You must not fear, O beloved man. _⌊Peace be to you_⌋;* be strong and be courageous!" And _⌊when he spoke_⌋* with me, I was strengthened and I said, "Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me."

⁴ 'But now take courage,* Zerubbabel,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. 'Take courage,* Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and take courage,* all the people of the land,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. 'Do the work, because I am with you,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts,

⁹ "Thus says Yahweh of hosts: 'Let your hands be strong, you* who are hearing in these days these words from the mouth of the prophets who were present on the day _⌊the foundation was laid for the rebuilding of the temple, the house of Yahweh of hosts_⌋.*

¹³ Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act courageously, be strong.

¹⁰ Finally, become strong in the Lord and in the might of his strength.

¹ You, therefore, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus,

²³ And he placed his hands on him and _⌊commissioned him_⌋* just as Yahweh spoke by the hand of Moses.*

³² "So you must be careful to do just as Yahweh your God commanded you; you shall not turn to the right or to the left.

³² * All of the things* that I am commanding you, _⌊you must diligently observe_⌋;* you shall not add to it, and you shall not take away from it."

¹⁴ And you shall not turn aside from _⌊any of_⌋* the words that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* to the right or left by going after other gods to serve them.

⁹ And _⌊you must diligently observe the words of this covenant_⌋,* so that you may succeed in all that you do.

⁸ The scroll of this law will not depart from your mouth; you will meditate on it day and night so that _⌊you may observe diligently all that is written_⌋* in it. For then you will succeed in your ways and prosper.

¹⁵ Just as Yahweh commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and Joshua did; he left nothing undone that Yahweh had commanded Moses.

³ You shall keep the charge of Yahweh your God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, his commandments, his judgments, and his testimonies, as are written in the law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all that you do and everywhere you turn,

²⁷ Do not swerve right or left; remove your foot from evil.

²⁰ In the way of righteousness I walk, in the midst of paths of justice,

²⁹ _⌊If only_⌋* _⌊they had such a mind_⌋';* that is, to fear me and to keep all my commandments _⌊at all times_⌋,* so that _⌊it will go well_⌋* for them and for their children _⌊forever_⌋.*

³² "So you must be careful to do just as Yahweh your God commanded you; you shall not turn to the right or to the left.

⁶ And these words that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* shall be on* your heart.* ⁷ And you shall recite them to your children, and you shall talk about them at the time of your living in your house and at the time of your going on the road and at the time of your lying down and at the time of your rising up. ⁸ And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as an emblem between your eyes. ⁹ And you shall write them on the doorframe of your house and on your gates.

¹⁸ "And you shall put these, my words, on your heart and on your inner self,* and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be as an emblem between your eyes. ¹⁹ And you shall teach them to your children* by talking about them when you sit in your house and when you travel on the road and when you lie down and when you get up.

¹⁸ "_⌊And then_⌋* _⌊when he is sitting_⌋* on the throne of his kingdom, then he shall write for himself a copy of this law on a scroll _⌊before_⌋* the Levitical priests. ¹⁹ And it shall be with him, and he shall read it* all the days of his life, so that he may learn to revere Yahweh your God by _⌊diligently observing_⌋* all the word of this law and these rules,

¹⁴ But the word is very near you, even in your mouth and in your heart, _⌊so that you may do it_⌋.*

¹¹ _⌊when all Israel comes to appear before_⌋* Yahweh their God at the place that he will choose, you shall read this law before all Israel _⌊in their hearing_⌋.*

¹ Blessed is the man who does not walk in the advice of the wicked; nor does he stand in the way of sinners; nor does he sit in the assembly of mockers. ² Instead, in the law of Yahweh is his delight, and on his law he meditates day and night. ³ And so, he is like a tree planted by streams of water that gives its fruit in its season; its leaf also does not wither. Therefore all that he does prospers.

¹⁴ Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your presence, O Yahweh, my rock and my redeemer.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. ³¹ The law of his God is in his heart. His steps will not slip.

¹⁰ Your righteousness I have not hidden in the midst of my heart. I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation. I have not concealed your loyal love or your faithfulness from the great congregation.

¹¹ In my heart I have hidden your word,* so that I may not sin against you.

¹⁵ I will meditate on your precepts and look at* your ways.

⁴² Then I will have an answer for the one who taunts me, for I trust your word. ⁴³ And do not snatch the word of truth utterly from my mouth, for I hope in your ordinances.

⁹⁷ How I love your law! The whole day it is my meditation.

⁹⁹ I have more insight than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation.

¹ My child, if you will receive* my sayings, and hide my commands with you, ² in order to incline your ear toward wisdom, then you shall apply your heart to understanding. ³ For if you cry out for understanding,* if you lift* your voice for insight, ⁴ if you seek her like silver and search her out _⌊like treasure_⌋,* ⁵ then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and the knowledge of God you will find.

¹ My child, do not forget my instruction, and may your heart guard my commands.

²¹ "And as for me, this is my covenant with them, says Yahweh:
my spirit that is upon you, and my words that I have placed in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, or* from the mouths* of your _⌊children_⌋,* or* from the mouths* of _⌊your children's children_⌋,"* says Yahweh, "from now on and forever."

²¹ "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

²⁴ "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

³⁵ The good person from his* good treasury brings out good things, and the evil person from his* evil treasury brings out evil things.

²⁸ But he said, "On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and follow it!"*

¹⁷ If you understand these things, you are blessed if you do them.

²¹ The one who has my commandments and keeps them—that one is the one who loves me. And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him."

²⁹ _⌊No rotten word must proceed_⌋* from your mouth, but only something good for the building up of the need, in order that it may give grace to those who hear,

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another with all wisdom, with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God,

¹⁴ Do not neglect the gift that is in you, that was granted to you through prophecy with the laying on of hands by the council of elders. ¹⁵ Practice these things. Be diligent* in these things, in order that your progress may be evident to everyone. ¹⁶ Fix your attention on yourself and on your teaching. Continue in them, for by* doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

²² But be doers of the message and not hearers only,* deceiving yourselves, ²³ because if anyone is a hearer of the message and not a doer, this one is like someone* staring at _⌊his own face_⌋* in a mirror, ²⁴ for he looks at himself and goes away and immediately forgets what sort of person he was. ²⁵ But the one who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues to do it, not being a forgetful hearer but a doer who acts, this one will be blessed _⌊in what he does_⌋*.

¹⁴ Blessed are the ones who wash their robes, so that their authority will be over the tree of life and they may enter into the city through the gates.

¹⁵ Now behold, I am with you, and I will keep you wherever you go. And I will bring you to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised to you."

¹ "If you go out to war against your enemies and you see a horse and a chariot, _⌊an army_⌋* larger that you, you shall not be afraid because of them; for Yahweh your God is with you, the one who brought you from the land of Egypt.

²⁸ Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes and your officials, so that I may speak in their ears these words, and that I may call as witness against them heaven and earth.

⁶ Be strong and courageous, for you will give the people this land as an inheritance that I swore to their ancestors* to give them. ⁷ Only be strong and very courageous _⌊to observe diligently the whole law_⌋* that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn aside from it, to the right or left, so that you may succeed _⌊wherever you go_⌋.*

¹⁴ And Yahweh turned to him and said, "Go in this your strength, and you will deliver Israel from the palm of Midian. Did I not send you?"

²⁸ Absalom commanded his servants, saying, "Please watch. At the moment the heart of Amnon is _⌊tipsy_⌋* with wine, then I shall say to you, 'Strike Amnon down,' and you shall kill him! Don't be afraid. Is it not I myself who has commanded you? Be courageous and be _⌊valiant!_⌋*

¹ Of David.*
Yahweh is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? Yahweh is the refuge of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? ² When evildoers drew near against me to eat my flesh— my adversaries and my enemies who drew near to me— they themselves stumbled and fell.

⁷ Yahweh of hosts is with us; our high stronghold is the God of Jacob. Selah

¹ But now thus says Yahweh,
he who created you, Jacob, and he who formed you, Israel: "You must not fear, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name; _⌊you are mine_⌋.*

⁵ You must not fear, for I am with you. I will bring your _⌊offspring_⌋* from the east, and I will gather you from the west.

⁷ But Yahweh said to me, "You must not say, 'I am a youth,'* for to _⌊whomever_⌋* I send you, you will go, and _⌊whatever_⌋* I command you, you will speak. ⁸ _⌊Do not be afraid of them_⌋,* for I am with you to deliver you," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered and* said to them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than God, you decide!

¹¹ and they must be prepared for the third day, because on the third day, Yahweh will go down on Mount Sinai before the eyes of all the people.

¹ "Hear, Israel, you are about to cross the Jordan today to go to dispossess nations larger and more numerous than you, great cities fortified _⌊with high walls_⌋,*

³¹ For you are now about to cross the Jordan to go to take possession of the land that Yahweh, your God, is giving to you, and you will take possession of it and live in it,

² At the end of the three days the officers passed through the midst of the camp,

⁵ "Return; you must say to Hezekiah, the leader of my people, 'Thus says Yahweh the God of David your ancestor,* "I have heard your prayer and I have seen your tears. Look, I am about to heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the temple of Yahweh.

² He will revive us after two days; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live in his presence.*

²⁰ So Moses said to them, "If you do this thing, if you arm yourselves _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh for the war, ²¹ and everyone of you armed cross the Jordan _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh until he has driven out his enemies from before him, ²² and the land is subdued _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, then afterward you will return and be free of obligation from Yahweh and from Israel, and this land will be your property _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh.

²⁰ So Moses said to them, "If you do this thing, if you arm yourselves _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh for the war, ²¹ and everyone of you armed cross the Jordan _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh until he has driven out his enemies from before him, ²² and the land is subdued _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, then afterward you will return and be free of obligation from Yahweh and from Israel, and this land will be your property _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ²³ But if you do not do so, behold, you have sinned against Yahweh, and know that your sin will find you. ²⁴ Build for yourselves cities for your little children and sheep pens for your flocks; what has gone out from your mouth you will do." ²⁵ So the descendants* of Gad and the descendants* of Reuben said to Moses, saying, "Your servants will do just as my lord commands. ²⁶ Our little children, our wives, our livestock, and all of our animals* _⌊will remain_⌋* in the cities of Gilead, ²⁷ but your servants, everyone who is armed for battle, will cross over _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh to the war, just as my lord says." ²⁸ So Moses commanded them, Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the _⌊families_⌋* of the tribes of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

¹⁸ "And I charged you all at that time when I said, "Yahweh has given you—to all of you—this land to possess. All the _⌊warriors_⌋* shall cross over, ready to fight, before your brothers, the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ¹⁹ Only your wives and your little children and your livestock (I know that _⌊you have much livestock_⌋)* must stay in your towns that I have given you, ²⁰ until Yahweh shall give rest to your brothers as he did to you, and also they take possession of the land that Yahweh your God is giving to them beyond the Jordan; then they may return, each one to his possession that I have given to them.

¹ Then Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, ² and he said to them, "You have observed all that Moses Yahweh's servant commanded you, and you have listened* to my voice in all that I have commanded you; ³ you have not forsaken your kinsmen* these many days, up to this day, and you have observed the obligation of the command of Yahweh your God. ⁴ So then, Yahweh your God has given rest to your kinsmen,* just as he promised them; so then, turn and go to your tents to the land of your possession, which Moses Yahweh's servant gave to you beyond the Jordan.

¹⁸ So God led the people around by the way of the desert to the _⌊Red Sea_⌋,* and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* went up in battle array from the land of Egypt.

⁸ And the officials shall continue to speak to the troops, and they shall say, '_⌊What man_⌋* is afraid _⌊and disheartened_⌋?* Let him go, and let him return to his house, and let him not cause the heart of his brothers to melt* like his.'

⁴ And the woman was dressed in purple and scarlet and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, holding a golden cup in her hand full of detestable things and the unclean things of her sexual immorality.

¹⁷ but we ourselves will become armed and ready before the _⌊Israelites_⌋* until we have brought them to their place, and our little children will live in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land. ¹⁸ We will not return to our houses until the _⌊Israelites_⌋* each obtain their* inheritance for themselves. ¹⁹ For we will not take possession with them from across the Jordan and beyond because our inheritance has come to us from across the Jordan to the east."

⁴ So then, Yahweh your God has given rest to your kinsmen,* just as he promised them; so then, turn and go to your tents to the land of your possession, which Moses Yahweh's servant gave to you beyond the Jordan. ⁵ Only be very careful to observe the commandment and law that Moses Yahweh's servant commanded you, to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, to hold fast to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul."* ⁶ And Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went to their tents. ⁷ And to the half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given a possession in Bashan, but to the other half Joshua had given a possession with their kinsmen* beyond the Jordan to the west; and when Joshua sent them to their tents and blessed them, ⁸ he said to them, "Return to your tents with much wealth, and with very much livestock, with silver, gold, copper, iron, and with very much clothing; divide the war-booty of your enemies with your kinsmen."* ⁹ So the descendants* of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned home and departed with the _⌊Israelites_⌋* at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go to the land of Gilead to the land of their possession, which they had acquired _⌊according to the command of Yahweh_⌋* through the hand of Moses.

²⁶ And if one member suffers, all the members suffer together; if a member* is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

⁵ it does not behave dishonorably, it _⌊is not selfish_⌋*, it does not become angry, it does not keep a record of wrongs,

¹³ For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not let your freedom become an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

² Carry the burdens of one another, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

²¹ For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain. ²² But if it is to live in the flesh, this is fruitful work for me, and which I will prefer I do not know. ²³ But I am hard pressed _⌊between the two options_⌋*, having the desire to depart and to be with Christ, _⌊for this is very much better_⌋*. ²⁴ But to stay on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. ²⁵ And because I am* convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, ²⁶ so that what you can be proud of may increase in Christ Jesus because of me through my return again to you.

⁴ each of you* not looking out for _⌊your own interests_⌋*, but also each of you for _⌊the interests_⌋* of others.

²⁵ So the descendants* of Gad and the descendants* of Reuben said to Moses, saying, "Your servants will do just as my lord commands.

²⁷ You go near and hear _⌊everything_⌋* that Yahweh our God will say; and then you tell us all that Yahweh our God tells you, and we will listen, and we will do it.'

¹ Let every person be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except by God, and those that exist are put in place by God. ² So then, the one who resists authority resists the ordinance which is from God, and those who resist will receive condemnation on themselves. ³ For rulers are not a cause of terror for a good deed, but for bad conduct. So do you want not to be afraid of authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from it, ⁴ for it is God's servant to you for what is good. But if you do what is bad, be afraid, because it does not bear the sword to no purpose. For it is God's servant, the one who avenges for punishment on the one who does what is bad. ⁵ Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath but also because of conscience.

¹ Remind them to be subject to the rulers and to the authorities, to obey, to be prepared for every good work,

¹³ Subject yourselves to every human authority for the sake of the Lord, whether to a king* as having supreme authority, ¹⁴ or to governors as those sent out by him for the punishment of those who do evil and the praise of those who do good. ¹⁵ For the will of God is as follows: by* doing good to silence the ignorance of foolish people.

⁵ No one will stand before you* all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so will I be with you; I will not fail you, and I will not forsake you.

¹³ _⌊So may Yahweh punish Jonathan and more_⌋* if _⌊my father decides to do you harm_⌋* and if _⌊I fail to disclose it to you_⌋* and send word to you that you can go safely. And may Yahweh be with you, as he has been with my father.

³⁷ As Yahweh was with my lord the king, so may he be with Solomon and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David."

²⁰ Then David said to Solomon his son, "Be strong and courageous, and do this! Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed, for Yahweh God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you and will not forsake you until all the work of the service of the house of Yahweh is finished.

May Yahweh answer you in the day of trouble. May the name of Jacob's God protect* you.

⁴ May he give to you _⌊your heart's desire_⌋,* and your every plan may he fulfill. Selah

⁹ Rescue,* O Yahweh. Let the king answer us when we call.

²⁵ O Yahweh, please save; O Yahweh, please grant success. ²⁶ Blessed is he who comes in the name of Yahweh. We bless you* from the house* of Yahweh.

⁹ And the crowds who went ahead of him and the ones who followed were shouting, saying,
"Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!* Hosanna in the highest heaven!"*

¹ Therefore, I urge first of all that petitions, prayers, requests, and thanksgiving be made on behalf of all people, ² on behalf of kings and all those who are in authority, in order that we may live a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

¹² And the man who treats with contempt* so as not to listen to the priest who is standing to minister on behalf of Yahweh your God or to the judge, that man shall die; so you shall purge the evil from Israel.

¹² Then the people said to Samuel, "Who is the one who asked, 'Will Saul reign over us?' Give the men to us that we may kill them."

⁴ Arise, for it is your task and we are with you. Be strong and do it."

¹ Why are nations in tumult, and countries plotting* in vain?* ² The kings of the earth establish themselves, and the rulers conspire* together against Yahweh and his anointed: ³ "Let us tear off their bonds, and cast their cords from us!" ⁴ He who sits enthroned in the heavens laughs. The Lord derides them. ⁵ Then he speaks to them in his wrath, and in his fury he terrifies them: ⁶ "But as for me, I have set my king on Zion, my holy mountain."

²⁷ But these enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them* here and slaughter them in my presence!'"

²⁸ Anyone who rejected the law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ How much worse punishment do you think the person will be considered worthy of who treats with disdain the Son of God and who considers ordinary the blood of the covenant by which he was made holy and who insults the Spirit of grace?

²⁵ Watch out that you do not refuse the one who is speaking! For if those did not escape when they* refused the one who warned them on earth, much less will we escape,* if we* reject the one who warns from heaven,
