¹ Then* Yahweh spoke to Moses on _⌊Mount Sinai_⌋,* saying, ² "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and say to them, 'When you* come into the land that I am about to give to you,* then* the land shall observe a Sabbath for Yahweh. ³ Six years you* shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard, and you shall gather its yield. ⁴ But* in the seventh year it shall be _⌊a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋* for the land—a Sabbath for Yahweh; you* must not sow your field, and you must not prune your vineyard. ⁵ You* must not reap your harvest's aftergrowth, and you must not harvest the grapes of your unpruned vines—it shall be _⌊a year of complete rest_⌋* for the land. ⁶ And a Sabbath of the land shall be for food for you:* for you* and for your slave and for your slave woman and for your hired worker and for your temporary residents* who are dwelling as aliens with you; ⁷ and all its yield shall be for your* domestic animal and for the wild animal, which are in your land to eat. ⁸ " 'And you* shall count for yourself seven Sabbaths of years, seven times seven years, and they shall be for you _⌊time periods of_⌋* years: _⌊forty-nine_⌋* years. ⁹ And you* shall cause _⌊a loud horn blast_⌋* to be heard on the seventh month on the tenth of the month; on the Day of Atonement you* shall cause a ram's horn to be heard in all your* land. ¹⁰ And you* shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and you shall proclaim a release in the land for all its inhabitants. It is a Jubilee; it shall be for you, and you shall return. You must return—everyone to his property and everyone to his clan.* ¹¹ _⌊You* shall have the fiftieth year as a Jubilee_⌋;* you must not reap its aftergrowth, and you must not harvest its unpruned vines. ¹² Because it is a Jubilee, it shall be holy to you. You must eat its* produce from the field. ¹³ " 'In this Year of Jubilee _⌊each of you* shall return_⌋* to his property. ¹⁴ And when you* sell something to your* fellow citizen or you buy from your* neighbor's hand, you* must not oppress _⌊one another_⌋.* ¹⁵ You* must buy from your fellow citizen according to the number of years after the Jubilee; he must sell to you according to the number of years of yield. ¹⁶ You* must increase its price _⌊according to a greater number of years_⌋,* but* you must decrease its price _⌊according to a lesser number of years_⌋,* because he is selling its yields to you. ¹⁷ And you* must not oppress _⌊one another_⌋,* but* you* shall revere your God, because I am Yahweh, your* God. ¹⁸ " 'And you* shall do my statutes, and you must keep my regulations, and you shall do them, so that* you shall live _⌊securely_⌋* on the land. ¹⁹ And the land shall give its fruit, and you* shall eat _⌊your fill_⌋,* and you shall live _⌊securely_⌋* on it. ²⁰ And if you* should say, "What shall we eat in the seventh year, _⌊if_⌋* we do not sow and we do not gather its yield?" ²¹ then* I will command my blessing for you* in the sixth year, so that* it will make* the yield for three years. ²² And you* will sow in the eighth year, and you shall eat from the old yield;* until the ninth year, until the coming of its yield, you shall eat the old yield. ²³ " 'But* the land must not be sold in* perpetuity, because the land is mine, because you* are aliens and temporary residents with me. ²⁴ And in all your* property's land you* must provide redemption for the land. ²⁵ " 'When your* brother becomes poor and he sells part of his property, then* _⌊his nearest redeemer_⌋* shall come, and he shall redeem the thing sold by his brother. ²⁶ But* if* a man _⌊does not have_⌋* a redeemer, then* _⌊he prospers_⌋* and he finds enough for his redemption, ²⁷ then* he shall calculate the years of its selling, and he shall refund the balance to the man to whom he sold it, and he shall return to his property. ²⁸ But* if his hand does not find enough to refund to him, then* _⌊what he has sold_⌋* shall be in the buyer's hand until the Year of Jubilee; and it shall go out of the buyer's hand* in the Jubilee, and he shall return to his property. ²⁹ " 'And if a man sells _⌊a residential house in a walled city_⌋,* then* it shall be his redemption until completing _⌊a year after his selling_⌋;* its redemption _⌊shall last_⌋* _⌊a year_⌋.* ³⁰ But* if it is not redeemed _⌊before a full year has passed_⌋,* then* the house that is _⌊in the walled city_⌋* shall belong to the buyer in* perpetuity throughout his generations; it shall not go out of the buyer's hand* in the Jubilee. ³¹ However,* village houses that have no surrounding wall shall be considered _⌊open country_⌋;* there is redemption for it, and in the Jubilee it shall go out of the buyer's hand.* ³² " 'As for* the cities of the Levites, that is, the houses in* their property's cities, it shall be _⌊a lasting redemption_⌋* for the Levites. ³³ And whatever anyone redeems from the Levites then* must go out of the buyer's hand* in the Jubilee, including a house's selling _⌊in his city's property_⌋,* because the houses in* the cities of the Levites are their property in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ³⁴ But* a* field of their cities' pastureland must not be sold, because _⌊it is their property for all time_⌋.* ³⁵ " 'And if your* countryman* becomes poor and _⌊if he becomes dependent on you_⌋,* then* you shall support him like an alien and like a temporary resident, and he shall live with you. ³⁶ You* must not take interest or* usury from him, but* you shall revere your God, and your countryman* shall live with you. ³⁷ You* must not give your money to him with interest or* give your food for* profit. ³⁸ I am Yahweh your* God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt to give _⌊you_⌋* the land of Canaan, to be as God for you. ³⁹ " 'And if your* countryman* who is with you becomes poor, and he is sold to you, _⌊you shall not treat him as a slave_⌋.* ⁴⁰ He shall be with you like a hired worker, like a temporary resident; he shall work with you until the Year of Jubilee. ⁴¹ And he and his sons with him shall go out from you, and he shall return to his clan, and to the property of his ancestors* he shall return. ⁴² Because they are my servants whom I brought out from the land of Egypt, they shall not be sold _⌊as a slave_⌋.* ⁴³ You* shall not rule over him with ruthlessness, but* you shall revere your God. ⁴⁴ " 'As for* your* slave and your* slave woman who are* yours,* from the nations that are all around you,* from them you* may buy a slave or* a slave woman. ⁴⁵ And you* may buy also from the children* of the temporary residents who are dwelling with you as aliens and from their clan who are with you, who have children in your land; indeed,* they may be as property for you. ⁴⁶ And you* may pass them on as an inheritance to your* sons* after you* to take possession of as property _⌊for all time_⌋*—you* may let them work. But* as for your* countrymen,* the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* you* shall not rule with ruthlessness over _⌊one another_⌋.* ⁴⁷ " 'And if the alien or* the temporary resident who are with you* _⌊prosper_⌋,* but* your countryman* who is with him becomes poor and he is sold to an alien, a temporary resident who is with you, or to a descendant of an alien's clan, ⁴⁸ after he is sold redemption shall be for him; one of his brothers may redeem him, ⁴⁹ or his uncle or his uncle's son may redeem him, or _⌊one of_⌋* _⌊his close relatives_⌋* from his clan may redeem him; or if _⌊he prospers_⌋,* he may redeem himself. ⁵⁰ And he shall calculate with his buyer from the year of _⌊his selling himself_⌋* until the Jubilee; and the value of his selling shall be according to the number of years—it shall be with him like* a hired worker's days. ⁵¹ If there are still many years, _⌊in keeping with them_⌋* he shall restore his redemption _⌊in proportion to his purchase price_⌋.* ⁵² And if there are a few years left until the Year of Jubilee, then* he shall calculate for himself; he shall restore his redemption _⌊according to the number of his years_⌋.* ⁵³ He shall be with him _⌊as a yearly hired worker_⌋;* he shall not rule over him with ruthlessness _⌊in your* sight_⌋.* ⁵⁴ And if he is not redeemed by* any of these ways,* then* he and his sons with him shall go out in the Year of Jubilee. ⁵⁵ Indeed,* the _⌊Israelites_⌋* are servants for me; they are my servants whom I brought out from the land of Egypt. I am Yahweh your* God.'"

¹ In the third month after the _⌊Israelites_⌋* went out from the land of Egypt, on this day they came to the Sinai desert.

¹ Yahweh spoke to Moses in the desert of Sinai, in the tent of assembly, on the first of the month, in the second year _⌊after they came out_⌋* of the land of Egypt, saying,

¹¹ And it happened, in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth of the month the cloud was lifted from upon the tabernacle of the testimony.* ¹² And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* set out for their journey* from the desert of Sinai, and the cloud dwelled in the desert of Paran.

²⁴ which things are spoken allegorically, for these women are two covenants, one from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery, who is Hagar. ²⁵ Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is a slave with her children.

¹⁰ " 'And six years you will sow your land and gather its yield.

³⁴ "When you come into the land of Canaan, which I am about to give to you as your possession, and I put _⌊mildew_⌋* in a house in the land of your possession,

³² It is _⌊a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋* for you, and you shall deny yourselves on the ninth day of the month in the evening—from evening to evening you must observe your extraordinary* Sabbath."

³⁴ Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbaths all the days of its lying desolate, and you shall be in the land of your enemies; then the land shall rest, and it shall enjoy its Sabbaths. ³⁵ All the days of its lying desolate it shall rest for the time* that it had not rested during your Sabbaths while you were living on it.

⁸ _⌊When the Most High apportioned_⌋* the nations, at his dividing up of the sons of humankind, he fixed the boundaries of the peoples, according to the number of the children of Israel.*

⁴⁹ "Go up to this mountain of the Abarim range, Mount Nebo, which is _⌊opposite Jericho_⌋,* and see the land of Canaan that I am giving to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* as a possession.

⁴ And Yahweh said to him, "This is the land that I swore to Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'To your offspring I will give it.' I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross _⌊into it_⌋."*

²¹ to fulfill the word of Yahweh by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land has enjoyed its Sabbaths. All the days of desolation it kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years.

¹ A psalm of David.*
The earth is Yahweh's, with its fullness, the world and those who live in it, ² because he has founded it on the seas, and has established it on the rivers.

¹⁶ The heavens are Yahweh's heavens, but the earth he has given to the children of humankind.

⁸ And he will sweep into Judah; he will overflow and he will flood up to the neck. He will reach, and _⌊he will spread his wings out over your entire land_⌋,* God with us."

⁵ "I have made the earth with humankind and animals* that are on the face of the earth by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and I give it to whomever is right in my eyes.

¹⁰ " 'And six years you will sow your land and gather its yield. ¹¹ But the seventh you will let it rest and leave it fallow, and the poor of your people will eat, and their remainder the animals* of the field will eat. You will do likewise for your vineyard and for your olive trees.

²⁰ And if you* should say, "What shall we eat in the seventh year, _⌊if_⌋* we do not sow and we do not gather its yield?" ²¹ then* I will command my blessing for you* in the sixth year, so that* it will make* the yield for three years. ²² And you* will sow in the eighth year, and you shall eat from the old yield;* until the ninth year, until the coming of its yield, you shall eat the old yield. ²³ " 'But* the land must not be sold in* perpetuity, because the land is mine, because you* are aliens and temporary residents with me.

⁴³ And the land shall be deserted by them, and it shall enjoy its Sabbaths in its being desolate from them, and they themselves* must pay for their guilt, _⌊simply because_⌋* they rejected my regulations, and their inner self* abhorred my statutes.

²⁹ " 'This will be the sign for you: Eat the volunteer plants for the year, and in the second year, the volunteer plants that spring up from that. But in the third year, sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

³⁰ And this shall be the sign for you: the eating of volunteer plants* this* year, and in the second year self-seeded plants,* and in the third year sow, reap, plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.

¹¹ But the seventh you will let it rest and leave it fallow, and the poor of your people will eat, and their remainder the animals* of the field will eat. You will do likewise for your vineyard and for your olive trees.

²⁰ And if you* should say, "What shall we eat in the seventh year, _⌊if_⌋* we do not sow and we do not gather its yield?"

⁴⁴ And all who believed were in the same place, and had everything in common.

³² Now the group of those who believed were one heart and soul, and no one said anything of what belonged to him was his own, but all things were theirs in common.

³⁴ For there was not even anyone needy among them, because all those who were owners of plots of land or houses were selling them* and* bringing the proceeds of the things that were sold ³⁵ and placing them* at the feet of the apostles. And it was being distributed to each as anyone had need.

² And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.

¹⁵ " 'And you shall count for yourselves _⌊from the day after_⌋* the Sabbath, from the day of your bringing the wave offering's sheaf—there shall be seven full weeks.

²⁰ "And he shall finish making atonement for the sanctuary and the tent of assembly and the altar; then* he shall present the living goat.

³⁰ because on this day he shall make atonement for you to cleanse you; you must be clean from all your sins _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh.

²⁴ "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, 'In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, _⌊you must have_⌋* a rest period, a remembrance of the trumpet blast, a holy assembly.

²⁷ "Surely the Day of Atonement is on the tenth day of the seventh month; it shall be a holy assembly for you, and you shall deny yourselves, and you shall present an offering made by fire to Yahweh.

¹⁰ And you* shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and you shall proclaim a release in the land for all its inhabitants. It is a Jubilee; it shall be for you, and you shall return. You must return—everyone to his property and everyone to his clan.* ¹¹ _⌊You* shall have the fiftieth year as a Jubilee_⌋;* you must not reap its aftergrowth, and you must not harvest its unpruned vines. ¹² Because it is a Jubilee, it shall be holy to you. You must eat its* produce from the field.

¹⁷ If he consecrates his field from the Year of Jubilee, it shall stand as your proper value.

²⁴ In the Year of the Jubilee the field shall return to the one who bought it from him, to the one whose property the land is.

¹⁰ "And on the day of your joy and in your appointed times, at the beginning of your months, you will blow on the trumpets in addition to your burnt offerings and in addition to the sacrifices of your fellowship offerings. And they will be as a memorial for you _⌊before_⌋* your God; I am Yahweh your God."

⁴ When the Jubilee of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* _⌊comes_⌋,* it will be added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they belong; and their inheritance will disappear from the tribe of our father."

¹⁵ Blessed are the people who know the joyful shout; O Yahweh, they walk about in the light of your countenance.

³⁸ "Therefore let it be known to you, men and brothers, that through this one forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and from all the things from which you were not able to be justified by the law of Moses, ³⁹ by this one everyone who believes is justified!

¹⁸ But I say, they have not heard, have they?* On the contrary,
"Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the inhabited world."*

¹⁹ by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit,* so that from Jerusalem and traveling around as far as Illyricum I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.

¹⁹ namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. ²⁰ Therefore we are ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as if* God were imploring you through us. We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. ²¹ He made the one who did not know sin to be sin on our behalf, in order that we could become the righteousness of God in him.

⁸ for from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia,* but in every place your faith toward God has gone out, so that we have no need to say anything.

² "I am Yahweh, your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves.

¹³ " 'In this Year of Jubilee _⌊each of you* shall return_⌋* to his property.

²⁶ But* if* a man _⌊does not have_⌋* a redeemer, then* _⌊he prospers_⌋* and he finds enough for his redemption, ²⁷ then* he shall calculate the years of its selling, and he shall refund the balance to the man to whom he sold it, and he shall return to his property. ²⁸ But* if his hand does not find enough to refund to him, then* _⌊what he has sold_⌋* shall be in the buyer's hand until the Year of Jubilee; and it shall go out of the buyer's hand* in the Jubilee, and he shall return to his property.

¹⁷ If he consecrates his field from the Year of Jubilee, it shall stand as your proper value. ¹⁸ But* if he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, then* the priest shall calculate the money for him _⌊according to the number of years_⌋* that are left over until the Year of Jubilee; and it shall be deducted from your proper value. ¹⁹ And if he indeed redeems the field that is consecrated, then* he shall add a fifth of your proper value's money onto it, and it shall stand for* him. ²⁰ And if he does not redeem the field and if he sells the field to another man, it may not be redeemed again, ²¹ and the field shall be a holy object for Yahweh when it goes out* in the Jubilee, like a devoted* field; _⌊it shall be the priest's property_⌋.* ²² " 'And if he consecrates for Yahweh his acquired* field that is not the field of his inherited possession, ²³ then* the priest shall calculate for him the _⌊amount_⌋* of your proper value until the year of the Jubilee, and he shall give your proper value on that day as a holy object for Yahweh. ²⁴ In the Year of the Jubilee the field shall return to the one who bought it from him, to the one whose property the land is.

² And they said, "Yahweh commanded my lord to give the land by lot as an inheritance to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and my lord was commanded by Yahweh to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother to his daughters. ³ But if they become wives to one of the sons from another tribe of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* their inheritance will disappear from the inheritance of our ancestors,* and it will be added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they belong; the lot of our inheritance would disappear. ⁴ When the Jubilee of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* _⌊comes_⌋,* it will be added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they belong; and their inheritance will disappear from the tribe of our father." ⁵ Then Moses commanded the _⌊Israelites_⌋* by the command of Yahweh, saying, "The tribe of the descendants* of Joseph is right regarding what they are speaking. ⁶ This is the word that Yahweh commanded the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, '_⌊Let them marry_⌋* _⌊whomever they like_⌋;* only _⌊they must marry_⌋* from within the clan of the tribe of their father. ⁷ Thus an inheritance of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* will not go around from tribe to tribe. Rather, the inheritance of each tribe of his father will remain with the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ⁸ Every daughter who possesses an inheritance from the tribes of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* will _⌊marry_⌋* one of the clan of the tribe of her father, so that the _⌊Israelites_⌋* will possess the inheritance of his ancestors.* ⁹ Therefore an inheritance will not go around from one tribe to another tribe because the tribes of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* will each hold to their own inheritance.'"

³ Whoever among you who is from all of his people, may his God be with him and may he go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and may he build the house of Yahweh, the God of Israel. He is the God who is in Jerusalem.

⁷ who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food for the hungry. Yahweh sets prisoners free;

⁹ saying to the _⌊prisoners_⌋,* "Come out!" to those who are in darkness, "Show yourselves!" they shall feed _⌊along_⌋* the ways, and their pasturage shall be on all the barren heights.

²⁴ Can war-booty be taken from the mighty? or can a captive of a righteous* person be rescued? ²⁵ But thus says Yahweh:
"Indeed a captive of the mighty shall be taken, and the war-booty of the tyrant shall be rescued, for* I myself will dispute with your opponent, and I myself will save your children.

¹ The Spirit of the Lord Yahweh is upon me, because Yahweh has anointed me, he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up _⌊the brokenhearted_⌋,* to _⌊proclaim_⌋* release to the captives and liberation to those who are bound, ² to _⌊proclaim_⌋* the year of Yahweh's favor, and our God's day of vengeance, to comfort all those in mourning, ³ to _⌊give_⌋* for those in mourning in Zion, to give them a head wrap instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of a faint spirit. And _⌊they will be called_⌋* oaks of righteousness, the planting of Yahweh, to show his glory.

⁴ for the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my blood-vengeance has come!

⁸ The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh after king Zedekiah _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with all the people who were in Jerusalem to proclaim release to them,

¹³ "Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: 'I _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with your ancestors* on the day of my bringing them out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves, _⌊saying_⌋,* ¹⁴ "At the end of seven years you must let go each one his fellow countryman, the Hebrew who has been sold to you and who has served you six years, and you must let him go free from you." But your ancestors* did not listen to me, and they did not incline their ears.* ¹⁵ And you turned back _⌊recently_⌋* and you did right in my eyes, to proclaim release each one to his neighbor, and you _⌊made_⌋* a covenant _⌊before me_⌋* in the house that is called _⌊by_⌋* my name. ¹⁶ But you turned back and you profaned my name when you brought back each one his male slave and each one his female slave, whom you had let go free according to their desire, and you subdued them to be to you as male slaves and as female slaves.' ¹⁷ "_⌊Therefore_⌋* thus says Yahweh, 'You have not listened to me to proclaim release each one to his fellow countryman and each one to his neighbor. Look, I am going to proclaim to you a release,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'to the sword, to the plague, and to the famine, and I will make you a terror to all the kingdoms of the earth.

¹¹ As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant, I will release your prisoners from _⌊the waterless pit_⌋.* ¹² Return to the fortress, O prisoners of hope; today I am declaring that I will repay you double.

⁷⁴ that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, could serve him without fear

¹⁶ And he came to Nazareth, where _⌊he had been brought up_⌋,* and according to _⌊his custom_⌋* he entered into the synagogue on the day of the Sabbath and stood up to read. ¹⁷ And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him, and unrolling the scroll he found the place where it was written, ¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because of which he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to send out in freedom those who are oppressed, ¹⁹ to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord."* ²⁰ And he rolled up the scroll and* gave it* back to the attendant and* sat down. And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were looking intently at him. ²¹ And he began to say to them, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."

³² and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." ³³ They replied to him, "We are descendants of Abraham and have not been enslaved to anyone at any time. How do you say, 'You will become free'?" ³⁴ Jesus replied to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, that everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. ³⁵ And the slave does not remain in the household _⌊forever_⌋;* the son remains _⌊forever_⌋.* ³⁶ So if the son sets you free, you will be truly free.

¹⁷ But thanks be to God that you were slaves of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart the pattern of teaching to which you were entrusted, ¹⁸ and having been set free from sin, you became enslaved to righteousness.

¹⁷ Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

²⁵ Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is a slave with her children.

¹³ For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not let your freedom become an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

¹⁶ Live as free persons, and not using your* freedom as a covering for evil, but as slaves of God.

¹⁹ promising them freedom although they* themselves are slaves of depravity. For to whatever someone succumbs, by this he is also* enslaved. ²⁰ For if, after they* have escaped from the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord* and Savior Jesus Christ, and they are again entangled in these things and succumb to them, the last state has become worse for them than the first.

⁴ But* in the seventh year it shall be _⌊a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋* for the land—a Sabbath for Yahweh; you* must not sow your field, and you must not prune your vineyard. ⁵ You* must not reap your harvest's aftergrowth, and you must not harvest the grapes of your unpruned vines—it shall be _⌊a year of complete rest_⌋* for the land. ⁶ And a Sabbath of the land shall be for food for you:* for you* and for your slave and for your slave woman and for your hired worker and for your temporary residents* who are dwelling as aliens with you; ⁷ and all its yield shall be for your* domestic animal and for the wild animal, which are in your land to eat.

¹⁰ And you* shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and you shall proclaim a release in the land for all its inhabitants. It is a Jubilee; it shall be for you, and you shall return. You must return—everyone to his property and everyone to his clan.*

¹³ " 'You* shall not exploit your* neighbor, and you* shall not rob him; a hired worker's wage you* shall not _⌊withhold_⌋* overnight until morning.

¹⁷ And you* must not oppress _⌊one another_⌋,* but* you* shall revere your God, because I am Yahweh, your* God.

¹⁹ You shall not subvert* justice; you shall not _⌊show partiality_⌋;* and you shall not take a bribe, for the bribe makes blind the eyes of the wise and misrepresents the words of the righteous. ²⁰ _⌊Justice, only justice_⌋* you shall pursue, so that you may live, and you shall take possession of the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you.

³ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* cried to Yahweh, as he had nine hundred iron chariots,* and he oppressed the _⌊Israelites_⌋* _⌊cruelly_⌋* for twenty years.*

³ Here I am! Testify against me before Yahweh and before his anointed one! Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I exploited? Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I taken a bribe, that I may shut my eyes _⌊regarding_⌋* him?-then I will restore it to you." ⁴ Then they said, "You have not exploited us or oppressed us, and you have not taken anything from the hand of anyone."

¹⁰ Then Asa was angry with the seer and put him in _⌊the prison_⌋,* for he was enraged with him concerning this. And Asa oppressed some of the people at that time.

³⁶ Behold, we are slaves to this day, and the land that you have given to our ancestors* to eat its fruits and enjoy its goodness—behold, we are slaves in it! ³⁷ Its rich yield goes to the kings whom you have given over us because of our sins, and they are ruling over our dead bodies and our livestock at their pleasure. We are in great trouble.

¹⁹ for he has oppressed; he has abandoned the poor; he has seized a house but* did not build it. ²⁰ Because he has not known satisfaction in his stomach, _⌊he lets nothing escape that he desires_⌋.*

¹⁸ to render judgment for the fatherless and the oppressed so that a mere mortal from the earth will no longer cause terror.

³¹ He who oppresses the poor insults him who made him, but he who has mercy on the poor honors him.

¹³ He who closes his ear from the cry of the poor, he also will cry out and not be heard.

¹⁶ He who oppresses the poor in order to enrich himself, or gives to the rich, _⌊will come to poverty_⌋.*

³ A man who is poor and oppresses the impoverished is a beating rain _⌊that leaves_⌋* no food.

⁸ He who augments his wealth with interest and with usury gathers it for him who is kind to the poor.

¹⁶ A ruler who lacks understanding is* a cruel oppressor, but those who hate unjust gain will have long* days.

⁸ Do not be surprised if you see the poor being oppressed with violence or do not see justice and righteousness in the province. For one official is watched by a higher official, and there are even higher officials over them!

¹⁷ Learn to do good! Seek justice! Rescue the oppressed! Defend the orphan! Plead for the widow!

¹² My people—children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. My people, your leaders are misleading you, and they confuse the course of your paths. ¹³ Yahweh takes his stand to conduct a legal case and takes his stand to judge the peoples. ¹⁴ Yahweh enters into judgment with the elders of his people and its princes. "And you! You have devoured the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses! ¹⁵ _⌊Why_⌋* do you crush my people and grind the face of the poor?"
_⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh of hosts.

⁷ For the vineyard of Yahweh of hosts is the house of Israel, and the man* of Judah is the plantation of his delight. And he waited for justice,* but look! Bloodshed!* For righteousness,* but look! A cry of distress!*

¹⁵ He who walks in righteousness and speaks uprightness, who rejects the gain of extortion, who _⌊refuses_⌋* a bribe, who stops up his ears* from hearing _⌊bloodshed_⌋* and shuts his eyes from seeing evil.

⁶ Is this not the fast I choose: to release the bonds of injustice, to untie the ropes of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and _⌊tear_⌋* every yoke to pieces?

¹⁷ "But there is nothing in your eyes and your heart _⌊except_⌋* your unlawful gain, and on shedding the blood of the innocent, and on committing oppression and extortion."

⁷ They have treated father and mother with contempt in you; _⌊they violated_⌋* the alien with* extortion; in the midst of you they mistreated the orphan and widow.

¹² They take a bribe among* you in order to shed blood; and you take usury, and you make gain from your neighbors by extortion, and so you have forgotten me, _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh. ¹³ And look! I strike my hand for your ill-gotten gain that you have made and at your blood that was in the midst of you.

¹¹ Therefore, because you trample on the poor and you take a grain tax from them, you built houses of dressed stone, but you will not live in them. You built vineyards of delightfulness, but you will not drink their wine. ¹² For I know your transgressions are many and your sins are numerous, you foes of the righteous, those who take a bribe, and _⌊those who_⌋* push aside the poor ones in the gate!

⁴ Hear this, those who trample on the poor and who annihilate the afflicted of the land, ⁵ saying, "When will the new moon be over, so that we can sell grain? And the Sabbath, so that we can open the grain bins, that we can make the ephah small and make the shekel large, and can practice deceit with a set of scales of deceit? ⁶ _⌊That we can_⌋* buy the powerless with silver and the poor for the sake of a pair of sandals, and we can sell the waste of the grain?" ⁷ Yahweh has sworn by the pride of Jacob, "Surely I will never forget any of their deeds!

² They covet fields and seize them, and houses, and they take them away. They oppress a man and his house; a man and his inheritance. ³ Therefore, thus says Yahweh: Look! I am planning disaster against this family from which you will not be able to remove your necks. You will not walk proudly, for it is a time of disaster.

¹⁰ Is there any longer a man in the house of the wicked treasures of wickedness, and the ephah of scarcity which is accursed?* ¹¹ Shall I regard as pure the one with scales of wickedness, and with a bag of deceitful weights? ¹² Because her rich are full of violence, and her inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

³ Their hands are upon evil, to do it well; the official and the judge ask for the bribe, and the great man utters the evil desire of his soul; and they weave it together.

¹⁴ And those who served in the army were also asking him, saying, "What should we also do?" And he said to them, "Extort from no one, and do not blackmail anyone,* and be content with your pay."

⁸ But you wrong and defraud, and do this to brothers!

¹ Come now, you rich people, weep and cry aloud over the miseries that are coming upon you! ² Your wealth has rotted, and your clothing has become moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver have become corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you, and it will consume your flesh like fire. You have stored up treasure in the last days. ⁴ Behold, the wages that were held back by you from the workers who reap your fields cry out, and the cries of the reapers have come to the ears of the Lord of hosts. ⁵ You have lived self-indulgently on the earth* and have lived luxuriously. You have fattened your hearts in the day of slaughter.

¹⁸ But* if he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, then* the priest shall calculate the money for him _⌊according to the number of years_⌋* that are left over until the Year of Jubilee; and it shall be deducted from your proper value. ¹⁹ And if he indeed redeems the field that is consecrated, then* he shall add a fifth of your proper value's money onto it, and it shall stand for* him. ²⁰ And if he does not redeem the field and if he sells the field to another man, it may not be redeemed again, ²¹ and the field shall be a holy object for Yahweh when it goes out* in the Jubilee, like a devoted* field; _⌊it shall be the priest's property_⌋.* ²² " 'And if he consecrates for Yahweh his acquired* field that is not the field of his inherited possession, ²³ then* the priest shall calculate for him the _⌊amount_⌋* of your proper value until the year of the Jubilee, and he shall give your proper value on that day as a holy object for Yahweh.

⁵ Let your gentleness be made known to all people. The Lord is near.

²⁷ then* he shall calculate the years of its selling, and he shall refund the balance to the man to whom he sold it, and he shall return to his property.

⁵¹ If there are still many years, _⌊in keeping with them_⌋* he shall restore his redemption _⌊in proportion to his purchase price_⌋.*

¹¹ And Abraham said, "Because I thought, surely there is no fear of God in this place; they will kill me on account of the matter of my wife.

¹² And he said, "Do not stretch out your hand against the boy; do not do anything to him. For now I know that you are _⌊one who fears_⌋* God, since you have not withheld your son, your only child, from me."

⁹ He has no greater authority in this house than me, and he has not withheld anything from me except you, since you are his wife. Now how could I do this great wickedness and sin against God?"

¹⁸ On the third day Joseph said to them, "Do this and you will live; I fear God.

²⁰ And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you so that his fear will be before you so that you do not sin."

¹⁴ You* shall not curse the deaf, and you* shall not put a stumbling block _⌊before_⌋* a blind person, but* you* shall revere your* God; I am Yahweh.

³² " '_⌊Before_⌋* old age you* shall get up, and you* shall show respect for an old person; and you* shall revere your God; I am Yahweh.

¹⁴ And when you* sell something to your* fellow citizen or you buy from your* neighbor's hand, you* must not oppress _⌊one another_⌋.*

⁴³ You* shall not rule over him with ruthlessness, but* you shall revere your God.

¹⁸ that he met you on the journey and attacked you, all those lagging behind you and when you were weary and worn out, and he did not fear God.

²⁴ Only fear Yahweh and serve him faithfully with all of your heart. For consider _⌊what great things he has done for you_⌋.*

⁷ So now, let the fear of Yahweh be upon you all. _⌊Be careful what you do_⌋,* for there is neither wickedness nor _⌊showing partiality_⌋* and taking bribes with Yahweh our God."

⁹ So I said, "The thing that you are doing is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of our God to prevent the disgrace from the nations, our enemies?

¹⁵ The former governors who were before me laid burdens on the people, and they took food and wine from them, besides forty shekels. Also, their servants controlled the people, but I did not do so because of the fear of God.

⁹ The fear of Yahweh is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of Yahweh are true; they are righteous altogether,

⁷ Fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; wisdom and instruction, fools despise.

²² Do not rob the poor because he is poor, and do not crush the afflicted at the gate;

⁵ For if you truly make your ways and your deeds good, if you truly do justice between a man and his neighbor, ⁶ you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, and the widow, you do not shed innocent blood in this place, and you do not go after other gods _⌊to your harm_⌋,*

¹⁶ He judged the legal cause of the needy and the poor, and then it was well. _⌊Is that not what it means to know me_⌋?*" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

⁵ "Then I will approach you for judgment, and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers, and against those who swear _⌊falsely_⌋,* and against the oppressors of the hired worker with his wages, the widow and the orphan, and _⌊the abusers of_⌋* the alien,* and yet do not fear me," says Yahweh of hosts.

⁵ But I will show you whom you should fear: fear the one who has authority, after the killing, to throw you* into hell! Yes, I tell you, fear this one!

³¹ Then the church throughout all of Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace, being strengthened. And living in the fear of the Lord and the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it was increasing in numbers.*

² devout and fearing God together with all his household, doing many charitable deeds for the people and praying to God _⌊continually_⌋.*

³⁵ but in every nation the one who fears him and who does what is right is acceptable to him.

¹⁸ The fear of God is not before their eyes."*

²⁰ Well said! They were broken off because of unbelief, but you stand firm because of faith. Do not think arrogant thoughts, but be afraid.

⁶ not to transgress and to exploit his brother in the matter, because the Lord is the one who avenges concerning all these things, just as also we told you beforehand and testified solemnly.

³⁷ " 'Thus you* shall keep all my statutes and all my regulations, and you* shall do them; I am Yahweh.'"

³ " 'If you walk in my statutes and you keep my commands and you do them, ⁴ then* I will give you rains in their time, and the land shall give its produce, and the trees of the field shall give their fruit. ⁵ And for you the threshing season shall overtake the grape harvest, and the grape harvest shall overtake the sowing, and you shall eat your food _⌊to your fill_⌋* and you shall live _⌊securely_⌋* in your land. ⁶ And I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and there shall not be _⌊anybody who makes you afraid_⌋,* and I will remove harmful animals from the land, and _⌊no sword shall pass through your land_⌋.* ⁷ And you shall pursue your enemies, and they shall fall by the sword _⌊before you_⌋.* ⁸ And five of* you shall pursue a hundred, and a hundred of* you shall pursue a myriad;* and your enemies shall fall by the sword _⌊before you_⌋.* ⁹ And I will turn to you, and I will make you fruitful, and I will make you numerous; and I will keep my covenant with you. ¹⁰ And you shall eat _⌊old grain_⌋,* and _⌊you shall clear away the old before the new_⌋.* ¹¹ And I will put my dwelling place in your midst, and my inner self* shall not abhor you. ¹² And I will walk about in your midst, and I shall be your God,* and you shall be my people.*

¹⁰ But you will cross the Jordan, and you will settle in the land that Yahweh your God is giving you as an inheritance, and he will give rest to you from all your enemies from all around, and you will live securely,

¹ "And it will happen that if you indeed listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, _⌊to diligently observe_⌋* all his commandments that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋,* then Yahweh your God will set you above all the nations of the earth. ² And all of these blessings shall come upon you, and _⌊they shall have an effect on you_⌋* if you listen to the voice of Yahweh your God: ³ "You will be blessed in the city, and you will be blessed in the field. ⁴ "Blessed will be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your livestock, _⌊the calf of your cattle and the lambs of your flock_⌋.* ⁵ "Blessed will be your basket and your kneading trough. ⁶ "Blessed will you be _⌊when you come in and blessed will you be when you go out_⌋.* ⁷ "Yahweh will cause your enemies _⌊who rise up against you to be defeated before you_⌋;* on one road* they shall come out against you, but on seven roads* they shall flee _⌊before you_⌋.* ⁸ Yahweh will command _⌊concerning you_⌋* the blessing to be in your barns and _⌊in all your endeavors_⌋;* and he will bless you in the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you. ⁹ Yahweh will establish you for _⌊himself_⌋* as a holy people as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of Yahweh your God and you walk in his ways. ¹⁰ And all of the peoples of the earth shall see that _⌊by the name of Yahweh you are called_⌋,* and _⌊they shall fear you_⌋.* ¹¹ And _⌊Yahweh will make you successful and prosperous_⌋,* in the fruit of your womb and on the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors* to give to you. ¹² Yahweh shall open for you his _⌊rich_⌋* storehouse, even the heavens, to give the rain for* your land in its time and to bless all of the work of your hand, and you will lend to many nations; you will not borrow from them. ¹³ And Yahweh shall make you* as head and not the tail, and you shall be only at the top of the nations, and you shall not be at the bottom, if you listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* _⌊and diligently observe them_⌋.* ¹⁴ And you shall not turn aside from _⌊any of_⌋* the words that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* to the right or left by going after other gods to serve them.

¹² Of Benjamin he said, "The beloved of Yahweh dwells _⌊securely_⌋,* the Most High* shields all around him, all the day, and between his shoulders he dwells."

²⁸ So Israel dwells alone and carefree, the spring of Jacob in a land of grain and wine; his heavens even drip dew.

⁸ In peace I will lie down and sleep _⌊at once_⌋,* for you alone, O Yahweh, make me dwell safely.

¹⁸ to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his precepts.

³³ Whoever listens to me will dwell in security and rest securely* from dread and disaster."

³ Thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, "Make your ways and your deeds good and let me dwell with you in this place. ⁴ Do not trust in _⌊the deceitful words_⌋,* _⌊saying_⌋,* 'The temple of Yahweh, the temple of Yahweh, they are the temple of Yahweh.' ⁵ For if you truly make your ways and your deeds good, if you truly do justice between a man and his neighbor, ⁶ you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, and the widow, you do not shed innocent blood in this place, and you do not go after other gods _⌊to your harm_⌋,* ⁷ then I will let you dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your ancestors* _⌊forever and ever_⌋.*

⁶ In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell _⌊in safety_⌋,* and this is his name by which he will be called: 'Yahweh is our righteousness.'

⁵ _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Turn back please, each one from his evil way, and from the evil of your deeds, and live on the land that Yahweh has given to you and to your ancestors* from a long time back and until forever,

¹⁶ In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell _⌊safely_⌋,* and this is what they shall call it: "Yahweh is our righteousness." '

²⁴ "Son of man,* the inhabitants of these ruins on the soil of Israel are saying, 'Abraham was one man, and he took possession of the land, and we are many; the land has been given for* us as a possession.' ²⁵ Therefore say to them, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "You eat blood in your meat, and you raise your eyes to your idols and you pour out blood, and yet you want to take possession of the land?* ²⁶ You rely on your sword, you do a detestable thing, and _⌊each man defiles_⌋* the wife of his neighbor, and yet you want to take possession of the land?" '*

²⁹ And they will know that I am Yahweh when I make my land a desolation and a wasteland, because of all of their detestable things that they have done.

²⁵ And I will make them a covenant of peace, and I will put an end to wild animals* from the land, and they will dwell in the desert _⌊safely_⌋,* and they will sleep in the forest. ²⁶ And I will make them and the area all around my hill a blessing, and I will let the rain go down _⌊at its appointed time_⌋;* they will be rains of blessing. ²⁷ And the tree* of the field will give its fruit, and the land will give its produce, and they will be on their land _⌊safely_⌋,* and they will know that I am Yahweh when I break their yoke, and I will deliver them from the hand of the ones enslaving them. ²⁸ And they will not be any longer plunder to the nations, and the animals of the land will not eat them, and they will dwell _⌊in safety_⌋,* and there will not be anyone frightening them.

²⁴ " 'And I will take you from the nations, and I will gather you from all of the lands, and I will bring you to your land. ²⁵ And I will sprinkle on you pure water, and you will be clean from all of your uncleanness, and I will cleanse you from all of your idols. ²⁶ And I will give a new heart to you, and a new spirit I will give* into your inner parts, and I will remove the* heart of stone from your flesh, and I will give to you a heart of flesh. ²⁷ And I will give* my spirit into your inner parts, and I will make it so that you will go* in my rules, and my regulations you will remember, and you will do them. ²⁸ And you will dwell in the land that I gave to your ancestors,* and you will be to me as a people, and I will be to you as* God.

⁵ And for you the threshing season shall overtake the grape harvest, and the grape harvest shall overtake the sowing, and you shall eat your food _⌊to your fill_⌋* and you shall live _⌊securely_⌋* in your land.

⁶ The earth has yielded its produce. God, our God, will bless us.

¹² Yes, Yahweh will give what is good, and our land will give its produce.

²³ And he will give rain for your seed with which you sow the ground, and grain, the produce of the ground, and it will be rich and _⌊fertile_⌋.* On that day, your cattle will graze in broad pastures;*

²¹ And they shall build houses and inhabit them, and they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. ²² They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat. For the days of my people shall be like the days of a tree, and my chosen ones shall enjoy the work of their hands.

³⁰ And I will cause the fruit of the tree and the crop of the field to increase, so that you will not suffer again the disgrace of famine among the nations.

²⁴ The threshing floors will be full with grain, and the vats will overflow with new wine and olive oil.

²⁶ And you will eat abundantly and be satisfied, and praise the name of Yahweh your God, who has dealt with you _⌊wondrously_⌋.* My people _⌊will never be ashamed_⌋.*

⁴ But* in the seventh year it shall be _⌊a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋* for the land—a Sabbath for Yahweh; you* must not sow your field, and you must not prune your vineyard.

⁴ The riff-raff that were in their midst _⌊had a strong desire_⌋;* and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* turned back and also wept, and they said, "Who will feed us meat?

¹³ From where do I have meat to give all these people? They weep before me, saying, 'Give us meat and let us eat!'

¹⁵ The attendant of the man of God arose early and went out, and look, the army was surrounding the city with horses and chariots. His servant said to him, "Oh no, my master! What shall we do?" ¹⁶ And he said, "Don't be afraid, for more are with us than are with them." ¹⁷ Then Elisha prayed and said, "O Yahweh, please open his eyes that he may see," and Yahweh opened the eyes of the servant, and he saw, and look, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

² Then the officer _⌊on whom the king relied_⌋* answered the man of God and said, "Look, even if Yahweh is making windows in heaven, could this thing happen?" And he said, "Look, you will be seeing it with your eyes, but you shall not eat from it there."

⁹ And Amaziah said to the man of God, "Now what should I do with the one hundred talents that I have given to the troops of Israel?" And the man of God said, "_⌊Yahweh is able to give_⌋* to you more than this."

¹⁹ And they spoke against God. They said, "Is God able to prepare a table in the wilderness? ²⁰ Yes, he struck the rock and water flowed and streams gushed out, but can he also give food or provide meat for his people?"

² Hear, heavens, and listen, earth, for Yahweh has spoken: "I reared children and I brought them up, but they rebelled against me.

²⁵ "For this reason I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, what you will eat,* and not for your body, what you will wear. Is your life not more than food and your body more than clothing? ²⁶ Consider the birds of the sky, that they do not sow or reap or gather produce into barns, and your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth more than they are? ²⁷ And who among you, by* being anxious, is able to add one hour* to his life span? ²⁸ And why are you anxious about clothing? Observe the lilies of the field, how they grow: they do not toil or spin, ²⁹ but I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory was dressed like one of these. ³⁰ But if God dresses the grass of the field in this way, although it* is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not do so much more for you, you of little faith? ³¹ Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear?,' ³² for the pagans seek after all these things. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. ³³ But seek first his kingdom and righteousness,* and all these things will be added to you. ³⁴ Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow, because tomorrow will be anxious for itself. _⌊Each day has enough trouble of its own._⌋*

²⁶ And he said to them, "Why are you fearful, you of little faith?" Then he got up and* rebuked the winds and the sea and there was a great calm.

²⁹ And you, do not consider what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not be anxious.

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

⁵ Your lifestyle must be free from the love of money, being content with what you have. For he himself has said, "I will never desert you, and I will never abandon you."* ⁶ So then, we can say with confidence,
"The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid.* What will man do to me?"*

¹² And Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in that same year a hundredfold, and Yahweh blessed him.

⁴⁷ And the land produced a plenty in the seven years of abundance.

²⁹ See, because Yahweh has given to you the Sabbath, therefore he is giving to you on the sixth day bread for two days. Stay, _⌊each in his location_⌋;* let no one go from his place on the seventh day."

⁸ " 'And you* shall count for yourself seven Sabbaths of years, seven times seven years, and they shall be for you _⌊time periods of_⌋* years: _⌊forty-nine_⌋* years. ⁹ And you* shall cause _⌊a loud horn blast_⌋* to be heard on the seventh month on the tenth of the month; on the Day of Atonement you* shall cause a ram's horn to be heard in all your* land. ¹⁰ And you* shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and you shall proclaim a release in the land for all its inhabitants. It is a Jubilee; it shall be for you, and you shall return. You must return—everyone to his property and everyone to his clan.* ¹¹ _⌊You* shall have the fiftieth year as a Jubilee_⌋;* you must not reap its aftergrowth, and you must not harvest its unpruned vines.

³ "You will be blessed in the city, and you will be blessed in the field.

⁸ Yahweh will command _⌊concerning you_⌋* the blessing to be in your barns and _⌊in all your endeavors_⌋;* and he will bless you in the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you.

³ It is like the dew of Hermon that runs down upon the mountains of Zion, because there Yahweh commanded the blessing— life forever.

²² The blessing of Yahweh makes one rich, and he does not increase sorrow with it.

¹⁰ Now the one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your seed, and will cause the harvest of your righteousness to grow,

¹⁰ And you shall eat _⌊old grain_⌋,* and _⌊you shall clear away the old before the new_⌋.*

¹¹ On the next day after the Passover, on that* very day, they ate from the produce of the land, unleavened cakes and roasted corn. ¹² And the manna ceased the day after, when they started eating the produce of the land, and there was no longer manna for the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* They ate from the crop of the land of Canaan in that year.

⁴ "I am a stranger and an alien among you; give to me _⌊my own burial site_⌋* among you so that I may bury my dead from before me."

⁹ And Jacob said to Pharaoh, "The days of the years of my sojourning are one hundred and thirty years. Few and hard have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not reached the days of the years of the lives of my ancestors* in the days of their sojourning."

⁵ And now if you will carefully listen to my voice and keep my covenant, you will be a treasured possession for me out of all the peoples, _⌊for all the earth is mine_⌋,*

⁴³ Call for songs of joy, O nations, concerning his people,* for the blood of his servants he will avenge, _⌊and he will take reprisals against his foes_⌋,* and he will make atonement for his land, his people."

³ Naboth said to Ahab, "Far be it from me from Yahweh that I should give the inheritance of my ancestors* to you."

¹⁵ For we are strangers before you and sojourners like all our ancestors.* Our days are like the shadow upon earth, and there is no hope of abiding.

²⁰ then I will uproot them from upon my land that I have given to them, and this house that I have consecrated for my name I will send away from before my face, and I will make it a proverb and a taunt among all the nations.

The earth is Yahweh's, with its fullness, the world and those who live in it,

¹² Hear my prayer, O Yahweh, and listen to my cry for help; do not be deaf to my tears. For I am an alien* with you, a sojourner like all my ancestors.*

O Yahweh, you favored your land. You restored the fortunes* of Jacob.

¹⁹ I am a sojourner on the earth;* do not hide your commands from me.

¹⁴ And they shall not sell any part from it, and shall not exchange, and shall not transfer the best of the land, for it is holy to Yahweh.

³ They will not remain in the land of Yahweh. But Ephraim will return to Egypt, and in Assyria they will eat unclean food.

¹⁸ Then Yahweh became jealous for his land and took pity on his people.

² I will gather all the nations, and I will bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat, and I will argue _⌊a case against them_⌋* there concerning my people and my inheritance Israel whom they have scattered among the nations, and my land that they have divided.

⁹ By faith he lived in the land of promise as a stranger, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the fellow heirs of the same promise. ¹⁰ For he was expecting the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. ¹¹ By faith also, _⌊with Sarah_⌋*,* he received _⌊the ability to procreate_⌋* even _⌊past the normal age_⌋*, because he regarded the one who had promised to be faithful. ¹² And therefore these were fathered from one man, and he being as good as dead, as the stars of heaven in number and like the innumerable sand by the shore of the sea. ¹³ These all died in faith without receiving the promises, but seeing them from a distance and welcoming them, and admitting that they were strangers and temporary residents on the earth.

¹¹ Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires which wage war against your* soul,

³¹ However,* village houses that have no surrounding wall shall be considered _⌊open country_⌋;* there is redemption for it, and in the Jubilee it shall go out of the buyer's hand.*

⁵¹ If there are still many years, _⌊in keeping with them_⌋* he shall restore his redemption _⌊in proportion to his purchase price_⌋.* ⁵² And if there are a few years left until the Year of Jubilee, then* he shall calculate for himself; he shall restore his redemption _⌊according to the number of his years_⌋.* ⁵³ He shall be with him _⌊as a yearly hired worker_⌋;* he shall not rule over him with ruthlessness _⌊in your* sight_⌋.*

²³ Not only this, but we ourselves also, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves while we* await eagerly our adoption, the redemption of our body.

³⁰ But from him you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom to us from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption,

⁷ in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace,

¹⁴ who is the down payment of our inheritance, until the redemption of the possession, to the praise of his glory.

³⁰ and do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

²⁰ And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, "May he be blessed by Yahweh, whose loyal love has not forsaken the living or the dead." And Naomi said to her, "The man is a close relative for us, he is one of our redeemers."

² So then, is not Boaz our kinsman whose maidservants you were with? Look, he is winnowing the barley at the threshing floor tonight.

⁹ And he said, "Who are you?" And she said, "I am Ruth, your servant. Spread _⌊your garment_⌋* over your servant because you are a redeemer."

¹² Now truly I am a redeemer, but there is also a redeemer of a closer relationship than me.

⁴ And I thought _⌊I would tell you_⌋* and say, '_⌊Buy it in the presence of_⌋* those sitting and before the elders of my people,' if you want to redeem it, redeem it. But if you do not want to redeem, tell me so that I may know, for there is no one except you to redeem it, and I am after you." And he said, "I want to redeem it." ⁵ And Boaz said, "On the day of your acquiring the field from the hand of Naomi, you also acquire Ruth the Moabite, the wife of the dead man, in order to raise up for the name of the dead his inheritance." ⁶ And the redeemer said, "I am not able to redeem for myself, lest I ruin my inheritance. You redeem for yourself my kinsman-redemption, for I am not able to redeem it."

⁷ 'Look, Hanamel, the son of Shallum, your uncle, is going to come to you, _⌊saying_⌋,* "Buy for yourself my field that is at Anathoth, for _⌊you have_⌋* the right of redemption to buy it." '* ⁸ Then Hanamel, the son of my uncle, came to me, to the courtyard of the guard _⌊according to_⌋* the word of Yahweh, and he said to me, 'Please buy my field that is at Anathoth, that is in the land of Benjamin, for to you is the claim of possession, and to you the redemption; buy it* for yourself.' Then I knew that this was the word of Yahweh.

⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that although he* was rich, for your sake he became poor, in order that you, by his poverty, may become rich.

¹³ And again,
"I will trust in him."*
And again,
"Behold, I and the children God has given me."* ¹⁴ Therefore, since the children share in blood and flesh, he also in like manner shared in these same things, in order that through death he could destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,

⁹ And they were singing a new song, saying,
"You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slaughtered, and bought people for God by your blood from every tribe and language and people and nation,

⁷ " 'If* _⌊he cannot afford a sheep_⌋,* he shall bring as his guilt offering for what he sinned two turtledoves or two _⌊young doves_⌋* for Yahweh, one for a sin offering and one for a burnt offering.

⁹ No lion shall be there, and no ferocious wild beast shall go up it. It shall not be found there, but* the redeemed shall walk there. ¹⁰ And the ransomed of Yahweh shall return, and they shall come to Zion with rejoicing. And everlasting joy shall be on their head; joy and gladness shall overtake them, and sorrow and sighing shall flee.

¹⁵ For thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel: "Houses and fields and vineyards will again be bought in this land." '

⁵² in a moment, in the blink of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. ⁵³ For it is necessary for this perishable body to put on incorruptibility, and this mortal body to put on immortality. ⁵⁴ But whenever this perishable body puts on incorruptibility and this mortal body puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will take place:
"Death is swallowed up in victory.

¹³ Now we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, so that you will not grieve as also the rest, who have no hope. ¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, thus also God will bring those who have fallen asleep through Jesus together with him. ¹⁵ For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who remain until the Lord's coming, will not possibly precede those who have fallen asleep. ¹⁶ For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout of command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. ¹⁷ Then we who are alive, who remain, will be snatched away at the same time together with them in the clouds for a meeting with the Lord in the air, and thus we will be together with the Lord always. ¹⁸ Therefore comfort one another with these words.

⁴ into an inheritance imperishable and undefiled and unfading, reserved in heaven for you ⁵ who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time,

⁷ Surely a man cannot redeem a brother. He cannot give to God his ransom ⁸ (since* the redemption price for their life is costly and it always fails),

¹ Yahweh spoke to Moses on the desert plains of Moab beyond the Jordan across Jericho, saying, ² "Command the _⌊Israelites_⌋* that they give to the Levites from the inheritance of their property cities to live in; and you will give to the Levites pastureland all around the cities.* ³ The cities will be theirs to live in, and their pasturelands will be for their domestic animals, for their possessions, and their animals.* ⁴ "The pasturelands of the cities that you will give to the Levites will extend from the wall of the city to a distance of a thousand cubits all around. ⁵ You will measure outside the city the eastern edge two thousand cubits, for the southern edge two thousand cubits, for the western edge two thousand cubits, and for the northern edge two thousand cubits, with the city in the middle; this will be for them the pasturelands of the cities. ⁶ "All the cities that you will give the Levites will be six cities of refuge, to which the killer can flee; in addition to them you will give forty-two cities. ⁷ All the cities that you will give to the Levites will be forty-eight cities, them with their pasturelands. ⁸ And the cities that you will give from the property of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* you will take more from the larger group and less from the smaller group; each of them will give according to the portion of their inheritance according to the portion that he inherits."

¹ Then the heads of the families of the Levites came to Eleazar the priest, to Joshua son of Nun, and to the heads of the families of the tribes of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ² And they spoke to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, "Yahweh commanded through the hand of Moses to give us cities to live in, with their pasturelands for our livestock." ³ So, _⌊by command of Yahweh_⌋,* the _⌊Israelites_⌋* gave the Levites these cities and their pasturelands from their inheritance. ⁴ The allotment _⌊fell_⌋* for the families of the Kohathites.* The descendants* of Aaron the priest, who were of the Levites, _⌊received_⌋* by lot thirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin. ⁵ The remaining descendants* of Kohath received by lot ten cities from the families of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. ⁶ The descendants* of Gershon received by lot thirteen cities from the families of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, and Naphtali and from the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan. ⁷ The descendants* of the Merarites* according to their families received twelve cities from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun. ⁸ The _⌊Israelites_⌋* gave to the Levites these cities and their pastureland by lot, just as Yahweh commanded through the hand of Moses. ⁹ They gave these cities, which are here mentioned by name, from the tribe of the families of Judah and from the tribe of the families of Simeon; ¹⁰ and they were for the descendants* of Aaron, from the families of the Kohathites,* from the descendants* of Levi, because the first lot was theirs. ¹¹ And they gave to them Kiriath Arba,* Arba being the father of Anak (that is, Hebron), in the hill country of Judah and the pasturelands surrounding it. ¹² But the field of the city and its villages they gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his property. ¹³ To the descendants* of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron, the city of refuge for the killer, and its pasturelands, Libnah and its pasturelands, ¹⁴ Jattir and its pasturelands, Eshtemoa and its pasturelands, ¹⁵ Holon and its pasturelands, Debir and its pasturelands, ¹⁶ Ain and its pasturelands, Juttah and its pasturelands, and Beth Shemesh and its pasturelands; nine cities from these two tribes. ¹⁷ From the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon and its pasturelands, Geba and its pasturelands, ¹⁸ Anathoth and its pasturelands, Almon and its pasturelands; four cities. ¹⁹ All the cities of the descendants* of Aaron the priests, thirteen cities and their pasturelands. ²⁰ For the families of the descendants* of Kohath, the remaining Levites of the descendants* of Kohath, they received the cities of their lot from the tribe of Ephraim. ²¹ They gave them Shechem, the city of refuge for the killer, and its pasturelands in the hill country of Ephraim, Gezer and its pasturelands, ²² Kibzaim and its pasturelands, and Beth-horon and its pasturelands; two cities. ²⁸ From the tribe of Issachar, Kishion and its pasturelands, Daberath and its pasturelands, ²⁹ Jarmuth and its pasturelands, En Gannim and its pasturelands; four cities. ³⁰ From the tribe of Asher, Mishal and its pasturelands, Abdon and its pasturelands, ³¹ Helkath and its pasturelands, Rehob and its pasturelands; four cities. ³² From the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee, the city of refuge for the killer, and its pasturelands, Hammoth Dor and its pasturelands, and Kartan and its pasturelands; three cities. ³³ All the cities of the Gershonites* according to their families were thirteen cities and their pasturelands. ³⁴ To the families of the descendants* of Merarite, the remaining Levites, from the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam and its pasturelands, Kartah and its pasturelands, ³⁵ Dimnah and its pasturelands, and Nahalal and its pasturelands; four cities. ³⁶ From the tribe of Reuben, Bezer and its pasturelands, Jahaz and its pasturelands, ³⁷ Kedemoth and its pasturelands, and Mephaath and its pasturelands; four cities. ³⁸ From the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead, the city of refuge for the killer, and its pasturelands, Mahanaim and its pasturelands, ³⁹ Heshbon and its pasturelands, and Jazer and its pasturelands; four cities in all. ⁴⁰ All these were the cities of the descendants* of Merarite according to their families, the remaining families of the Levites; their allotment was twelve cities. ⁴¹ All the cities of the Levites among the property of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* were forty-eight cities and their pasturelands. ⁴² Each of these cities had pasturelands surrounding them; so it was for all of these cities. ⁴³ And Yahweh gave to Israel all the land that he swore to give to their ancestors,* and they took possession of it and _⌊settled in it_⌋.* ⁴⁴ Yahweh gave them rest on every side, according to all that he had sworn to their ancestors,* and nobody from all their enemies withstood them, for Yahweh had given all their enemies into their hand. ⁴⁵ And _⌊nothing failed from_⌋* all the good things* that Yahweh promised to the house of Israel; _⌊everything came to pass_⌋.*

²⁰ Then Yahweh said to Aaron, "You will not receive an inheritance in their land, and there will not be a plot of ground for you in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ²¹ "Behold, I have given to the descendants* of Levi every tithe in Israel as an inheritance in return for their service, which they are doing, the work of the tent of assembly. ²² The _⌊Israelites_⌋* will not come near again to the tent of assembly, or _⌊they will bear sin_⌋* and die. ²³ The Levites* will perform the service of the tent of assembly, and they will bear their guilt, an eternal decree for all your generations. But they will not receive an inheritance in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* ²⁴ because the tithes* of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* that are _⌊offered_⌋* to Yahweh as a contribution, I have given to the Levites as an inheritance; therefore I said to them, 'They will not receive an inheritance in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.'"*

¹ "And there shall not be for the Levitical priests, the whole tribe of Levi, a plot of ground and an inheritance with Israel, rather they may eat an offering made by fire as their inheritance,* for Yahweh. ² And there shall not be for them* an inheritance of land in the midst of his brothers; rather Yahweh is his inheritance, just as he _⌊promised_⌋* to them.*

²³ " 'But* the land must not be sold in* perpetuity, because the land is mine, because you* are aliens and temporary residents with me.

³⁶ So Joseph, who was called Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated "son of encouragement"), a Levite of Cyprus by nationality, ³⁷ sold a field* that belonged to him and* brought the money and placed it* at the feet of the apostles.

⁹ And you will not oppress an alien; you yourselves know the feelings* of the alien, because you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

³⁴ The alien who is dwelling with you* shall be like a native among you,* and you* shall love him like yourself, * because you* were aliens in the land of Egypt; I am Yahweh your* God.

²⁵ " 'When your* brother becomes poor and he sells part of his property, then* _⌊his nearest redeemer_⌋* shall come, and he shall redeem the thing sold by his brother.

¹⁸ And he executes justice for the orphan and widow, and he is one who loves the alien, to give to them food and clothing. ¹⁹ And you shall love the alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

⁷ If there is a poor person among you from among one of your brothers in one of your _⌊towns_⌋* that Yahweh your God is giving to you, you shall not harden your heart, and you shall not shut your hand toward _⌊your brother who is poor_⌋.* ⁸ But you shall certainly open your hand for him, and _⌊you shall willingly lend_⌋* to him enough to meet his need, _⌊whatever it is_⌋.*

¹⁴ "You shall not exploit a hired worker, who is needy and poor, from among your fellow men or from among your aliens* who are in your land and in your _⌊towns_⌋.* ¹⁵ On his day you shall give his wage, and the sun shall not go _⌊down_⌋,* because he is poor and _⌊his life depends on it_⌋;* do this so that he does not cry out against you to Yahweh, _⌊and you incur guilt_⌋.*

²⁶ All the day he is gracious and lends, and his children are a blessing.

Blessed is the one who has regard for the poor; in the day of disaster, Yahweh delivers him.

⁵ It goes well for a man who is gracious and lends, who conducts his _⌊business properly_⌋.*

⁹ _⌊He gives lavishly_⌋* to the needy; his righteousness endures forever. His horn rises high in honor.

²⁰ The poor is disliked even by his neighbor, but the lovers of the rich are many. ²¹ He who despises his neighbor is a sinner, but he who has mercy on the poor blesses him.

⁵ He who mocks the poor insults him who made him; he who rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished.

¹⁷ He who lends to Yahweh is he who is kind to the poor, and his benefits he will repay to him.

³⁵ For I was hungry and you gave me something* to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something* to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me as a guest,

⁷ For the poor you always have with you, and you can do good for them whenever you want, but you do not always have me.

³⁵ But love your enemies, and do good, and lend expecting back nothing, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.

⁸ For you have the poor with you always, but you do not always have me."

²⁹ So from the disciples, _⌊according to their ability to give_⌋,* each one of them determined to send financial aid* for support to the brothers who lived in Judea,

¹³ contributing to the needs of the saints, pursuing hospitality.

¹⁸ If it is possible on your part, be at peace with all people.

²⁰ But "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by* doing this, you will heap up coals of fire upon his head."*

¹ For it is unnecessary for me to write to you concerning the ministry to the saints,

¹² because the service of this ministry is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but also is overflowing through many expressions of thanksgiving to God. ¹³ Through the proven character of this service they will glorify God because of the submission of your confession to the gospel of Christ and the generosity of your participation toward them and toward everyone, ¹⁴ and they are longing for you in their prayers for you, because of the surpassing grace of God to you. ¹⁵ Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

¹⁰ They asked only that we should remember the poor, the very thing I was also eager to do.

² Do not neglect hospitality, because through this some have received angels as guests without knowing it.

⁵ Listen, my dear brothers! Did not God choose the poor of the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him? ⁶ But you have dishonored the poor! Are not the rich exploiting you and they themselves dragging you into the courts?

¹⁷ But whoever has the world's material possessions and observes his brother _⌊in need_⌋* and shuts his heart against him, how does the love of God reside in him?

²⁵ " 'If you lend money to my people, to the needy with you, you will not be to him as a creditor; you will not _⌊charge him interest_⌋.*

¹⁹ "_⌊You shall not charge your brother interest on money_⌋,* interest on* food, or interest on* anything that one could lend* on interest. ²⁰ You may lend on interest to the foreigner, but to your countryman* you may not lend on interest, so that Yahweh your God may bless you _⌊in all your undertakings_⌋* in _⌊the land where you are going_⌋,* _⌊in order to take possession of it_⌋.*

⁷ I thought over this in my heart, and then I quarreled with the nobles and the prefects. I said to them, "You yourselves are taking interest from your own brother!" So I called the great assembly against them, ⁸ and I said to them: "We ourselves have bought back our brothers the Jews who were sold to the nations as we were able. But now you yourselves have sold your brothers so they may be sold to us!" They were silent and could not find a word to say. ⁹ So I said, "The thing that you are doing is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of our God to prevent the disgrace from the nations, our enemies? ¹⁰ Also, I and my brothers and my servants are lending them money and grain. Please stop taking this interest.

⁵ He does not lend his money at interest, and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.

⁸ and _⌊he does not charge interest_⌋* and he takes no usury, and he holds back* his hand from injustice and he executes a judgment of fairness between _⌊persons_⌋,*

¹³ _⌊He charges interest_⌋* and takes usury. Then, shall he live? He shall not live, for he did all of these detestable things. Surely he will die! His blood will be on him.

¹⁷ He brings back* his hand from iniquity;* he does not take interest and usury; he does my regulations; he goes* in my statutes. He will not die because of the guilt of his father; he will surely live!

¹² They take a bribe among* you in order to shed blood; and you take usury, and you make gain from your neighbors by extortion, and so you have forgotten me, _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and you, and between your offspring after you, throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant to be as God for you and to your offspring after you.

⁴⁵ because I am Yahweh, who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be for you as God. Thus* you shall be holy, because I am holy.

³² "And you shall not profane my holy name, so that I may be consecrated in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋;* I am Yahweh, who consecrates you, ³³ the one who brought you out from the land of Egypt to be as God for you; I am Yahweh."

⁴¹ I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God; I am Yahweh your God."

¹ "At that time," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh,
"I will be the God of all the clans* of Israel, and they will be to me a people."

³³ "But this is the covenant that I will _⌊make_⌋* with the house of Israel after those days," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh: "I will put my law in their inward parts and on their hearts* I will write it, and I will be to them God, and they themselves will be to me people.

³⁸ And they will be for me a people, and I will be for them God.

¹⁶ But now they aspire to a better land, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

¹⁴ And they made their lives bitter with hard work with mortar and with bricks and with all sorts of work in the field—with all their work in which they ruthlessly enslaved them.

² 'If you buy a Hebrew slave, he will serve six years, and in the seventh he will go out as free for nothing.*

³ (If the sun has risen over him, there is bloodguilt for him. He will make full restitution. If _⌊he does not have enough_⌋,* he will be sold for his theft.

⁴⁶ And you* may pass them on as an inheritance to your* sons* after you* to take possession of as property _⌊for all time_⌋*—you* may let them work. But* as for your* countrymen,* the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* you* shall not rule with ruthlessness over _⌊one another_⌋.*

¹² If your relative* who is a Hebrew man or a Hebrew woman is sold to you, and he or she has served you six years, then in the seventh year you shall send that person out _⌊free_⌋.* ¹³ And when you send him out free from you, you shall not send him away empty-handed. ¹⁴ You shall generously supply him from among your flocks and from your threshing floor and from your press; according to that with which Yahweh your God has blessed you, you shall give to him.

²² But from the _⌊Israelites_⌋* Solomon did not make a slave, but they were the men of war, his officers, his commanders, his captains, and the commanders of his chariots and his cavalry.

¹ A certain woman from the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, "Your servant my husband is dead. Now you know that your servant was a fearer of Yahweh, but the creditor came to take two of my children for himself as slaves.

⁵ Now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our sons are like their sons. Look, we are subduing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and there are some from our daughters being molested. _⌊We are powerless_⌋,* and our fields and vineyards belong to others."

¹⁴ For many nations and great kings will let them work, even them, and I will repay them according to their deeds, and according to the work of their hands.'"

⁷ And all the nations will serve him, and his son, and _⌊his grandson_⌋,* until the coming of the time of _⌊his own_⌋* land. Then many nations and great kings will let him work.

⁸ And it will happen on that day,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts, 'I will break his yoke from your neck and your bonds I will tear to pieces. And strangers will no longer let him work as a slave.

¹⁴ "At the end of seven years you must let go each one his fellow countryman, the Hebrew who has been sold to you and who has served you six years, and you must let him go free from you." But your ancestors* did not listen to me, and they did not incline their ears.*

² 'If you buy a Hebrew slave, he will serve six years, and in the seventh he will go out as free for nothing.* ³ If he comes in single, he will go out single. If he is the husband of a wife, his wife will go out with him.

³ If he comes in single, he will go out single. If he is the husband of a wife, his wife will go out with him.

²⁸ But* if his hand does not find enough to refund to him, then* _⌊what he has sold_⌋* shall be in the buyer's hand until the Year of Jubilee; and it shall go out of the buyer's hand* in the Jubilee, and he shall return to his property.

³² and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

¹⁴ For sin will not be master over you, because you are not under law, but under grace.

¹⁴ who gave himself for us, in order that he might redeem us from all lawlessness and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good deeds.

⁵⁵ Indeed,* the _⌊Israelites_⌋* are servants for me; they are my servants whom I brought out from the land of Egypt. I am Yahweh your* God.'"

²² But now, having been set free from sin and having been enslaved to God, you have your fruit leading to sanctification, and its end is eternal life.

²¹ Were you called while a slave? Do not let it be a concern to you. But if indeed you are able to become free, rather make use of it. ²² For the one who is called in the Lord while a slave is the Lord's freedperson. Likewise the one who is called while free is a slave of Christ. ²³ You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men.

¹³ And the Egyptians ruthlessly compelled the _⌊Israelites_⌋* to work. ¹⁴ And they made their lives bitter with hard work with mortar and with bricks and with all sorts of work in the field—with all their work in which they ruthlessly enslaved them.

¹⁷ But the midwives feared God, and they did not do as the king of Egypt had said to them. They let the boys live.

²¹ _⌊And so_⌋* because the midwives feared God, he gave them _⌊families_⌋.*

²³ _⌊And then_⌋* during those many days, the king of Egypt died, and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* groaned because of the work, and they cried out, and their cry for help because of the work went up to God.

⁷ And Yahweh said, "Surely I have seen the misery of my people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry of distress because of their oppressors, for I know their sufferings.

⁹ And now, look, the cry of distress of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* has come to me, and also I see the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them.

¹⁴ And the foremen of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* whom Pharaoh's slave drivers had appointed over them, were beaten by men who were saying, "Why have you not completed your portion of brickmaking _⌊as before, both yesterday and today_⌋?"*

⁵³ He shall be with him _⌊as a yearly hired worker_⌋;* he shall not rule over him with ruthlessness _⌊in your* sight_⌋.*

⁶ I was angry with my people; I profaned my inheritance, and I gave them into your hand. You did not _⌊give_⌋* them mercy; on the aged you made your yoke very heavy.

³ 'Why do we fast, and you do not see it? We humiliate our soul, and you do not notice it?' Look! You find delight on the day of your fast, and you oppress all your workers!

⁴ The weak you have not strengthened, and the sick you have not healed, and _⌊with respect to_⌋* the hurt* you have not bound them up, and you have not brought back the scattered, and you have not sought the lost, but rather you ruled over them with force* and with ruthlessness.

⁹ And masters, do the same things to them, giving up threats, knowing that both their Lord and yours is in heaven, and there is no partiality with him.

¹ Masters, grant your slaves justice and fairness, knowing that you also have a master in heaven.

⁴⁴ But any slave of a man, an acquisition by money, and you have circumcised him, then he may eat it.

⁸ Ask from me and I will make the nations your heritage, and your possession the ends of the earth. ⁹ You will break them with an iron rod. Like a potter's vessel you will shatter them."

¹ But Yahweh will have compassion on Jacob, and he will again choose Israel and set them on their land, and the immigrant will join himself to them, and they will attach themselves to the house of Jacob. ² And the nations will take them and bring them to their place, and the house of Israel will take possession of them* in the land of Yahweh as slaves and female slaves.
And this will happen:
they will take their captors captive and rule over their oppressors.

²⁶ And the one who conquers and who keeps my works until the end, I will give him authority over the nations, ²⁷ and "he will shepherd them with an iron rod; he will break them in pieces like jars made of clay,"*

³ And do not let the _⌊foreigner_⌋* who joins himself to Yahweh say, "Surely Yahweh will separate me from his people." And do not let the eunuch say, "Look! I am a dry tree!" ⁴ For thus says Yahweh, "To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, and choose that in which I delight, and who keep hold of my covenant. ⁵ And I will give them a monument and a name in my house and within my walls, better than sons and daughters; I will give him an everlasting name that shall not be cut off. ⁶ And the _⌊foreigners_⌋* who join themselves to Yahweh to serve him and to love the name of Yahweh, to become his servants, every one who keeps the Sabbath, _⌊so as not to profane_⌋* it, and those who keep hold of my covenant,

² And the nations will take them and bring them to their place, and the house of Israel will take possession of them* in the land of Yahweh as slaves and female slaves.
And this will happen:
they will take their captors captive and rule over their oppressors.

²⁶ But* if* a man _⌊does not have_⌋* a redeemer, then* _⌊he prospers_⌋* and he finds enough for his redemption,

⁷ Yahweh makes poor and makes rich; he brings low and also exalts. ⁸ He raises up the poor from the dust. From the ash heap he lifts up the needy, to cause them to sit with noble people and to cause them to inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth belong to Yahweh and he has set the inhabited world on them.

⁵ Listen, my dear brothers! Did not God choose the poor of the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?

³⁵ " 'And if your* countryman* becomes poor and _⌊if he becomes dependent on you_⌋,* then* you shall support him like an alien and like a temporary resident, and he shall live with you.

⁸ and I said to them: "We ourselves have bought back our brothers the Jews who were sold to the nations as we were able. But now you yourselves have sold your brothers so they may be sold to us!" They were silent and could not find a word to say.

⁴ But when the fullness of time came, God sent out his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, ⁵ in order that he might redeem those under the law, in order that we might receive the adoption.

¹¹ For both the one who sanctifies and the ones who are sanctified are all from one, for which reason he is not ashamed to call them brothers, ¹² saying,
"I will proclaim your name to my brothers; in the midst of the assembly I will sing in praise of you."* ¹³ And again,
"I will trust in him."*
And again,
"Behold, I and the children God has given me."*

⁴⁰ He shall be with you like a hired worker, like a temporary resident; he shall work with you until the Year of Jubilee.

¹⁸ It shall not be hard in your eyes _⌊when you send him forth free_⌋,* because for six years he has served you worth twice the wage of a hired worker; and Yahweh your God will bless you _⌊in whatever you will do_⌋.*

¹ "Does not _⌊a human being* have hard service_⌋* on earth? And are not his* days like the days of a laborer? ² Like a slave he longs for the shadow, and like a laborer he waits for his wages.

⁶ Look away from him, and let him desist until he enjoys his days like a laborer.

¹⁴ But now Yahweh speaks, saying, "In three years, like the years of a hired worker, the glory of Moab will become contemptible, with all of the great multitude, and the remnant will be a few, small, not strong.

¹⁶ For the Lord said this to me:
"_⌊In one more year_⌋,* like the years of a hired worker,
all the glory of Kedar will come to an end.

⁴⁰ He shall be with you like a hired worker, like a temporary resident; he shall work with you until the Year of Jubilee. ⁴¹ And he and his sons with him shall go out from you, and he shall return to his clan, and to the property of his ancestors* he shall return.

²⁵ But thus says Yahweh:
"Indeed a captive of the mighty shall be taken, and the war-booty of the tyrant shall be rescued, for* I myself will dispute with your opponent, and I myself will save your children.

³ For thus says Yahweh:
"You were sold for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money."

³ And Moses said to the people, "Remember this day when you went out from Egypt, from a house of slaves, because with strength of hand Yahweh brought you out from here, and food with yeast will not be eaten.

⁴² Because they are my servants whom I brought out from the land of Egypt, they shall not be sold _⌊as a slave_⌋.*

¹⁶ Ah, Yahweh, I am indeed your servant; I am your servant, the child of your maidservant. You have loosed my bonds.

³ For I am Yahweh, your God, the holy one of Israel, your savior. I give you Egypt as ransom, Cush and Seba in place of you.

⁷⁴ that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, could serve him without fear ⁷⁵ in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

¹⁹ For although I* am free from all people, I have enslaved myself to all, in order that I may gain more.

²¹ To those outside the law I became as outside the law (although I* am not outside the law of God, but subject to the law of Christ) in order that I may gain those outside the law.
