²³ And he said to them, "Doubtless you will tell me this parable: 'Physician, heal yourself!' Whatever we have heard that took place in Capernaum, do here in your hometown also!"

¹³ And leaving Nazareth, he went and* lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,

²³ And he went around through all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.

²³ And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will be brought down to Hades! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until today. ²⁴ Nevertheless I tell you that it will be more bearable for the region of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you!"

⁵⁴ And he came to his hometown and* began to teach* them in their synagogue, so that they were amazed and said, "From where did this man get this wisdom and these miracles?

²¹ And they went into Capernaum and immediately on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue.* ²² And they were amazed at his teaching, because he was teaching them like one who had authority, and not like the scribes. ²³ And so then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, ²⁴ saying, "_⌊Leave us alone_⌋,* Jesus the Nazarene! Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!" ²⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him!" ²⁶ And after* convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, the unclean spirit came out of him. ²⁷ And they were all amazed, so that they began to discuss with one another, saying, "What is this? A new teaching with authority! He even commands the unclean spirits and they obey him." ²⁸ And the report about him then went out everywhere in the whole surrounding region of Galilee.

¹ And when he* entered again into Capernaum after some days, it became known that he was at home. ² And many had gathered, so that there was no longer room, not even at the door, and he was speaking the word to them. ³ And they came bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four of them. ⁴ And when* they were not able to bring him* to him because of the crowd, they removed the roof where he was. And after* digging through, they lowered the stretcher on which the paralytic was lying. ⁵ And when* Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Child, your sins are forgiven." ⁶ Now some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, ⁷ "Why does this man speak like this? He is blaspheming! Who is able to forgive sins except God alone?" ⁸ And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they were reasoning like this within themselves, said to them, "Why are you considering these things in your hearts? ⁹ Which is easier to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say 'Get up and pick up your stretcher and walk'? ¹⁰ But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins,"—he said to the paralytic— ¹¹ "I say to you, get up, pick up your stretcher, and go to your home." ¹² And he got up and immediately picked up his* stretcher and* went out in front of them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, "We have never seen anything* like this!"

¹ And he went out from there and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him.

¹⁶ And he came to Nazareth, where _⌊he had been brought up_⌋,* and according to _⌊his custom_⌋* he entered into the synagogue on the day of the Sabbath and stood up to read.

⁴² How are you able to say to your brother, "Brother, allow me to remove the speck that is in your eye," while* you yourself do not see the beam of wood in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the beam of wood from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother's eye!

³ And when the* wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine!" ⁴ And Jesus said to her, "What _⌊does your concern have to do with me_⌋,* woman? My hour has not yet come."

²⁸ So the woman left her water jar and went away into the town and said to the people,*

⁴⁶ Now he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And there was at Capernaum a certain royal official whose son was sick. ⁴⁷ This man, when he* heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, went to him and asked that he come down and heal his son, for he was about to die. ⁴⁸ So Jesus said to him, "Unless you people* see signs and wonders, you will never believe!" ⁴⁹ The royal official said to him, "Sir, come down before my child dies!" ⁵⁰ Jesus said to him, "Go, your son will live." The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he departed. ⁵¹ Now as* he was going down, his slaves met him, saying that his child was alive. ⁵² So he inquired from them the hour at which he had gotten better. Then they said to him, "Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him." ⁵³ So the father knew that it was that* same hour at which Jesus said to him, "Your son will live," and he himself believed, and his whole household.

³ So his brothers said to him, "Depart from here and go to Judea, so that your disciples also can see your works that you are doing. ⁴ For no one does anything in secret and yet he himself desires to be _⌊publicly recognized_⌋.* If you are doing these things, reveal yourself to the world!"

²¹ Therefore, the one who teaches someone else, do you not teach yourself? The one who preaches not to steal, do you steal? ²² The one who says not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? The one who abhors idols, do you rob temples?

³⁴ "For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?* ³⁵ Or who has given in advance to him, and it will be paid back to him?"*

¹⁶ So then, from now on we know no one _⌊from a human point of view_⌋*, if indeed we have known Christ _⌊from a human point of view_⌋*, but now we know him this way no longer.
