³ He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the children of Levi, and he will refine them like gold and like silver, and they will present to Yahweh offerings* in righteousness.

⁵ Offer correct sacrifices,* and _⌊trust in_⌋* Yahweh.

¹⁴ Offer to God a thank offering and pay your vows to the Most High.

²³ He who sacrifices a thank offering honors me, and he who orders his way; I will show him the salvation of God."

¹⁰ For you have tested us, O God; you have tried us as silver is tried.

³⁰ I will praise the name of God in song, and magnify him with thanksgiving. ³¹ For Yahweh it will be better than an ox or bull, horned and hoofed.*

²¹ Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his loyal love, and his wonderful deeds for the children of humankind, ²² and let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of his works with rejoicing.

¹⁷ I will offer to you a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and proclaim the name of Yahweh.

¹ A psalm of David.*
I call on you, O Yahweh; hasten to me. Listen to my voice when I call to you. ² Let my prayer be set before you as incense, the lifting up of my palms as the evening offering.

³ A crucible is for the silver, and a furnace is for the gold, but Yahweh will test hearts.

⁴ Remove the dross from silver, and it will become a vessel for the smith.

²⁵ And I will turn my hand against you; I will purify your dross like lye, and I will remove all of your tin.

¹⁰ Look! I have refined you, but* not like* silver; I have chosen you in the furnace of misery.

⁶ But* you shall be called the priests of Yahweh, _⌊you will be called_⌋* servers of our God. You shall eat the wealth of the nations, and you shall boast in their riches.

¹⁹ And I will set a sign among them, and I will send survivors from them to the nations: Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, who draw the bow; Tubal and Javan, the faraway coastlands that have not heard of my fame, and have not seen my glory.
And they shall declare my glory among the nations, ²⁰ and bring all your countrymen* from all the nations as an offering to Yahweh on horses and chariots* and in litters and on mules and camels, to* _⌊my holy mountain_⌋,* Jerusalem," says Yahweh, "just as the sons of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel to the house of Yahweh. ²¹ And indeed, I will take some of them as priests and the Levites," says Yahweh.

²⁸ All of them are stubborn rebels, going about talking slander. They are bronze and iron, they are all behaving corruptly. ²⁹ The bellows* are burned up, lead is consumed by fire. _⌊In vain_⌋* _⌊he keeps on refining_⌋,* but the wicked are not torn apart. ³⁰ _⌊They are called_⌋* rejected silver, For Yahweh has rejected them."

¹⁸ And for the priests, a man from the Levites who offers burnt offerings* and who burns grain offerings* and who brings sacrifices* will not be cut off _⌊before me_⌋* _⌊forever_⌋.'"* ¹⁹ And the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, _⌊saying_⌋,* ²⁰ "Thus says Yahweh: 'If you could break my covenant with the day, and my covenant with the night, so that day and night would not come at their time, ²¹ then my covenant could be broken with David my servant, from _⌊having_⌋* a son who could rule on his throne, and with the Levites, the priests, my ministers. ²² As the host of heaven cannot be counted, and the sand of the sea cannot be measured, so I will make numerous the offspring of David my servant and the Levites who minister to me.'"

¹⁸ "Son of man,* the house of Israel has become as silver dross to me; all of them are as bronze and tin and iron and lead in the midst of a furnace, even as silver dross, silver dross they became! ¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: 'Because all of you have become as silver dross, therefore look! I am gathering you to the midst of Jerusalem, ²⁰ like the gathering of silver and bronze and iron and lead and tin to the middle of a furnace to blow fire on it for melting. Thus I will gather in my anger and in my rage, and I will _⌊deposit_⌋* you, and I will melt you. ²¹ And I will gather you, and I will blow on you with the fire of my wrath, and so I will melt you in the midst of her. ²² Thus you will be melted like the melting of silver in the midst of a furnace, and you will know that I, Yahweh, I have poured out my rage on you.'"

¹⁵ But the Levitical priests, the descendants* of Zadok, who cared for the responsibility of my sanctuary _⌊when the Israelites went astray_⌋* from me, they will approach me to serve me, and they will stand _⌊before me_⌋* to offer to me fat and blood," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh. ¹⁶ "They shall come to my sanctuary, and they shall approach my table to serve me, and they will observe my requirement.

¹⁰ Many will be purified and will be cleansed and will be refined, but the wicked will act wickedly _⌊and none of the wicked will understand_⌋,* but _⌊those who have insight_⌋* will understand.

² Take words with you, and return to Yahweh. Say to him, "Take away all guilt; accept good, and we will offer the fruit* of our lips.

⁹ And I will bring the remaining third into the fire, and I will refine them like one refines silver, and I will test them like one tests gold. They* will call my name, and I will answer them.* I will say, 'They* are my people,' and they* will say, 'Yahweh is my God.'"

⁶ "A son honors his father, and a slave his master;* but if I am a father, where is my honor, and if I am a master,* where is my reverence?" says Yahweh of hosts to you, O priests, _⌊who despise_⌋* my name. "But you say, 'How have we despised your name?' ⁷ You are presenting defiled food on my altar! But you ask, 'How have we defiled you?' By saying that the table of Yahweh is despised! ⁸ When you offer a blind animal for sacrifice, is that not wrong?* And when you offer the lame and the one who is ill, is that not wrong?* Present it, please, to your governor! Will he be pleased with you? _⌊Will he show you favor_⌋?"* says Yahweh of hosts. ⁹ So then, _⌊implore the favor of God_⌋* so that he will be gracious to us. "_⌊This is what you have done_⌋.* _⌊Will he show favor to any of you_⌋?"* says Yahweh of hosts. ¹⁰ "Who also among you will shut the temple doors so that you will not kindle fire in vain on my altar? I take no pleasure in you," says Yahweh of hosts, "and _⌊I will not accept_⌋* an offering from your hand. ¹¹ From the rising of the sun to its setting, my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense is being presented to my name, and a pure offering. For my name is great among the nations," says Yahweh of hosts.

¹ "And so then, O priests, this command is for you: ² If you will not listen, and if you will not _⌊take it to heart_⌋* to give glory to my name," says Yahweh of hosts, "then I will send the curse on you, and I will curse your blessings; moreover I have already cursed them because _⌊you are not taking it to heart_⌋.* ³ Look! I am going to rebuke _⌊your offspring_⌋,* and I will scatter offal on your faces, the offal of your religious feasts, and you will be carried to it.* ⁴ "Then you will know that I have sent to you this command, that my covenant with Levi _⌊continues_⌋,"* says Yahweh of hosts. ⁵ "My covenant with him was one of life and peace, and I gave them to him. This required reverence, and he revered* me and stood in awe _⌊before_⌋* my name. ⁶ The instruction of truth* was in his mouth, and wickedness was not found on his lips. In peace and in uprightness* he walked with me, and he brought back many from sin.* ⁷ For the lips of the priest should guard knowledge, and they should seek instruction* from his mouth, for he is the messenger of Yahweh of hosts. ⁸ But you, you have turned from the way; you have caused many to stumble by your instruction;* you have ruined the covenant of Levi," says Yahweh of hosts.

¹⁶ John answered them all, saying, "I baptize you with water, but the one who is more powerful than I am is coming, of whom I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

²³ But an hour is coming—and now is here*—when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for indeed the Father seeks such people to be his worshipers. ²⁴ God is spirit, and the ones who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."

¹ Therefore I exhort you, brothers, through the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, which is your reasonable service.

¹⁶ with the result that I am a servant of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, serving the gospel of God as a priest, in order that the offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

²⁶ in order that he might sanctify her by cleansing her* with the washing of water by the word; ²⁷ in order that he might present to himself the church glorious, not having a spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she may be holy and blameless.

¹⁷ But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and rejoice with all of you.

¹⁸ But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; _⌊I am well supplied_⌋* because* I received from Epaphroditus _⌊what you had sent_⌋*, a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.

⁶ For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is imminent.

¹⁴ who gave himself for us, in order that he might redeem us from all lawlessness and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good deeds.

¹⁰ For they disciplined us for a few days according to what seemed appropriate to them, but he does so for our benefit, in order that we can have a share in his holiness.

¹⁵ Therefore through him let us offer up a sacrifice of praise _⌊continually_⌋* to God, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name. ¹⁶ And do not neglect doing good and generosity, for God is pleased with such sacrifices.

⁷ so that the genuineness of your faith, more valuable than gold that is passing away, but is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

⁵ And you yourselves, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

⁹ But you are a chosen race,* a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's possession, so that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light,

¹² Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, when it* takes place to test you, as if something strange were happening to you. ¹³ But to the degree that you share in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, so that also at the revelation of his glory you may rejoice and be glad.

⁶ and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father—to him be the glory and the power _⌊forever and ever_⌋*. Amen.

¹⁸ I advise you to buy from me gold refined by fire, in order that you may become rich, and white clothing, in order that you may be clothed and the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed, and eye salve to smear on your eyes, in order that you may see.

¹⁰ and made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will reign on the earth."
