⁶ But from the beginning of creation 'he made them male and female.*

¹ In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth—

²⁷ So* God created humankind in* his image, in* the likeness of God he created him,* male and female he created them.

²⁰ And the man* _⌊gave names_⌋* to every domesticated animal and to the birds of heaven* and to all the wild animals.* But for the man there was not found a helper _⌊as his counterpart_⌋.* ²¹ And Yahweh God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man.* While* he slept, he took one of his ribs, and closed up _⌊the flesh where it had been_⌋.* ²² And Yahweh God fashioned the rib which he had taken from the man* into a woman and brought her to the man.* ²³ And the man* said,
"_⌊She is now_⌋* bone from my bones and flesh from my flesh; _⌊she_⌋* shall be called 'Woman,' for _⌊she was taken_⌋* from man."

² Male and female he created them. And he blessed them. And he called their name "Humankind" when* they were created.

¹⁴ But you ask, "_⌊For what reason_⌋?"* Because Yahweh stands as a witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have been unfaithful, even though she is your marriage partner and _⌊your wife by covenant_⌋.* ¹⁵ _⌊Did not one God make them?_⌋* But a remnant of the spirit is his.* And what does the one God desire? An offspring of God.* _⌊You must be attentive to_⌋* your spirit, and you must not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth. ¹⁶ "For I hate divorce,"* says Yahweh, the God of Israel, "and he who covers his clothing with violence," says Yahweh of hosts. "_⌊You must be attentive to_⌋* your spirit and you must not be unfaithful."

¹⁹ For in those days there will be tribulation of such a kind as has not happened from the beginning of the creation that God created until now, and never will happen.

⁴ and saying, "Where is the promise of his coming? For _⌊ever since_⌋* the fathers fell asleep, all things have continued just as they have been from the beginning of creation."
