¹ Children, listen to the instruction of a father, and be attentive in order to know insight. ² For I have given you good instruction; do not forsake my teaching. ³ When I was a son to my father, tender and alone before my mother, ⁴ he taught me and said to me, "May your heart hold fast to my words; guard my commandments and live. ⁵ Get wisdom and insight; do not forget and do not turn from the sayings of my mouth. ⁶ Do not forsake her—then she will guard you; love her and she will keep you. ⁷ The beginning of wisdom: Get wisdom! With all that is in your possession, gain insight. ⁸ Cherish her and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her. ⁹ She will give a garland for your head; she shall bestow a crown of glory upon you." ¹⁰ Listen, my child, take my sayings, and the years of your life shall be great. ¹¹ In the way of wisdom I have instructed you; I have led you in the path of uprightness. ¹² _⌊When you walk_⌋,* your step will not be hampered, and if you run, you will not stumble. ¹³ Seize the instruction! Do not let go! Guard her, for she is your life. ¹⁴ In the path of the wicked do not go; do not walk in the way of those who do evil. ¹⁵ Avoid it; do not transgress it; turn away from it and pass by. ¹⁶ For they will not sleep if they have not done wrong, and they are robbed of their sleep if they do not cause stumbling. ¹⁷ For they ate the bread of wickedness, and they drank the wine of violence. ¹⁸ But the path of the righteous ones is like the light of dawn, leading and shining until the day _⌊is full_⌋.* ¹⁹ The way of the wicked ones is like deep darkness; they do not know what they stumble over. ²⁰ My child, be attentive to my words; to my sayings incline your ear. ²¹ May they not escape from your _⌊sight_⌋;* keep them in the midst of your heart. ²² For they are life to those who find them and healing _⌊to the entire body_⌋.* ²³ With all vigilance, keep your heart, for from it comes the source* of life. ²⁴ Remove from yourself _⌊deceitful speech_⌋,* and abolish _⌊devious talk_⌋* from yourself. ²⁵ May your eyes look forward* and your gaze be straight before you. ²⁶ May the path of your foot be balanced and all your ways be sure. ²⁷ Do not swerve right or left; remove your foot from evil.

¹¹ Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of Yahweh.

⁸ My child, may you keep* your father's instruction, and do not reject your mother's teachings,

¹ My child, if you will receive* my sayings, and hide my commands with you, ² in order to incline your ear toward wisdom, then you shall apply your heart to understanding. ³ For if you cry out for understanding,* if you lift* your voice for insight, ⁴ if you seek her like silver and search her out _⌊like treasure_⌋,* ⁵ then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and the knowledge of God you will find.

¹ My child, be attentive to my wisdom, and to my understanding incline your ear;

²⁰ My child, keep the commandment of your father, and do not disregard the instruction of your mother. ²¹ Bind them on your heart continually; tie them upon your neck. ²² _⌊When you walk_⌋,* she* will lead you, _⌊When you lie down_⌋,* she will watch over you, and when you awake, she will converse with you. ²³ For like a lamp is a commandment, and instruction is light, and the way of life* is the reproof of discipline,

⁴ Say to wisdom,* "you are my sister," and you shall call insight,* "_⌊intimate friend_⌋."*

³² "And now, children, listen to me; happy are those who will keep my ways. ³³ Hear teaching and be wise; do not neglect it. ³⁴ Happy is the person who listens to me, in order to keep watch at my doors day by day, in order to guard the frames of my entrances. ³⁵ For he who finds me is he who finds* life, and he obtains favor from Yahweh. ³⁶ But he who misses me injures himself.* All those who hate me love death."

²⁰ Listen to advice and accept instruction so that you will gain wisdom for your _⌊future_⌋.*

¹⁷ Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise; you shall apply your heart* to my teaching.

¹¹ just as you know how we treated each one of you, like a father his own children, ¹² exhorting and consoling you and insisting that you live in a manner worthy of God, who calls you to his own kingdom and glory.

¹ Because of this, it is all the more necessary that we pay attention to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.

² May my teaching trickle like the dew, my words like rain showers on tender grass, and like spring showers on new growth.

⁹ "And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and a willing mind, for Yahweh searches all hearts and understands every plan and all thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you forever.

¹⁹ "But if you turn yourselves away and forsake my ordinances and my commandments which I have given before you all and will go and serve other gods and bow down to them,

⁴ For you say, 'My teaching is pure, and I am clean in your sight.'

³ My words declare my heart's uprightness, and my lips sincerely speak _⌊what my lips know_⌋.*

¹ For the music director. Of the sons of Korah. A psalm.*
Hear this, all you peoples; give ear, all you inhabitants of the world, ² both low and high, rich and poor together. ³ My mouth will speak wisdom, and the meditation of my heart will be understanding.

³⁰ If his sons forsake my law and do not walk in my judgments, ³¹ if they defile* my statutes and do not keep my commandments, ³² then I will punish their transgression with a rod, and their guilt with wounds.

⁶ Listen! For noble things I will speak, and upright things from the opening of my lips. ⁷ My mouth will utter truth, and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. ⁸ All sayings of my mouth are in righteousness; none of them are twisted and crooked. ⁹ All of them are straight to him who understands, and upright to those who find knowledge.

²⁰ Have I not written for you thirty sayings with admonitions and knowledge? ²¹ In order to show you what is right—sayings of truth— in order to return a true saying to him who sent you.

¹⁶ So Jesus answered them and said, "My teaching is not mine, but is from the one who sent me. ¹⁷ If anyone wants to do his will, he will know about my* teaching, whether it is from God or I am speaking from myself.

⁶ By* teaching these things to the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, trained in the words of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed faithfully.

⁹ holding fast to the faithful message according to the teaching, in order that he may be able both to exhort with sound instruction and to reprove those who speak against it.

²⁴ David consoled Bathsheba his wife, and he went to her and slept with her. She bore a son, and he called* him Solomon, and Yahweh loved him. ²⁵ He sent word by the hand of Nathan the prophet, so he called him Jedidiah* because of Yahweh.

¹³ Come, go to King David and say to him, 'Have you not, my lord the king, sworn to your servant, "Surely Solomon your son shall become king after me. And he will sit on my throne"? But why is Adonijah king?' ¹⁴ While you are still there speaking with the king, I will enter after you, and _⌊I will confirm your words_⌋."* ¹⁵ So Bathsheba went to the king in the private room. Now the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunnamite was attending the king. ¹⁶ Bathsheba knelt and bowed down before the king, and the king asked, "_⌊What do you want_⌋?"* ¹⁷ She said to him, "My lord, you swore by Yahweh your God to your servant, 'Solomon your son surely shall become king after me, and he will sit upon my throne!'

⁵ And these were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon, four by Bathshua the daughter of Ammiel;

⁵ Then David said, "Solomon my son is a boy and inexperienced, and the house built for Yahweh must be exceedingly great in fame and splendor throughout every land. I will make preparations for him." So David provided abundant materials before he died.

¹ Then David the king said to all the assembly, "God has chosen Solomon my son alone, a young man and inexperienced, and the work is great, for the citadel is not for humankind, but for Yahweh God.

²³ I know, O Yahweh, that to the human is not his own way, nor to a person is the walking and the directing of his own step.

¹⁰ " 'I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants* of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication, and they will look to me whom they pierced, and they shall mourn over him, as one wails over an only child, and they will grieve bitterly over him as one grieves bitterly over a firstborn.

¹⁶ Think the same thing toward one another; _⌊do not think arrogantly_⌋*, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise _⌊in your own sight_⌋*.

¹⁹ For I have chosen* him, that he will command his children and his household after him that they will keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice, so that Yahweh may bring upon Abraham that which he said to him."

³ You must not _⌊carry out_⌋* the practices of the land of Egypt, in which you lived, and you must not _⌊carry out_⌋* the practices of the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you; and you must not follow their statutes. ⁴ You must _⌊carry out_⌋* my regulations, and you must observe* my statutes by following them; I am Yahweh your God. ⁵ And you shall observe* my statutes and my regulations _⌊by which the person doing them shall live_⌋;* I am Yahweh.

⁹ "However, _⌊take care_⌋* for yourself and watch your inner self* closely, so that you do not forget the things that your eyes have seen, so that they do not slip from your mind all the days of your life; and you shall make them known to your children and to _⌊your grandchildren_⌋.*

⁶ And these words that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* shall be on* your heart.*

¹¹ Now, my son, Yahweh will be with you, that you may succeed and build the house of Yahweh your God as he has spoken concerning you. ¹² Only may Yahweh give to you understanding and insight that he might give you charge over Israel and the keeping of the law of Yahweh your God. ¹³ Then you will prosper if you take care to do the statutes and judgments which Yahweh commanded Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and be courageous; fear not and do not be dismayed. ¹⁴ Now see, with great effort I have made provision for the house of Yahweh: 100,000 talents of gold, 1,000,000 talents of silver, and bronze and iron that cannot be weighed, for there is an abundance. Also timber and stone I have provided, but to these you should add. ¹⁵ And with you there is an abundance of craftsmen: stonecutters, masons, carpenters, and everyone skilled in every kind of craftsmanship ¹⁶ with gold, silver, bronze, and iron without number. Arise and work! Yahweh will be with you!"

¹¹ In my heart I have hidden your word,* so that I may not sin against you.

¹ My child, do not forget my instruction, and may your heart guard my commands.

² Keep my commands and live, and my teaching like the _⌊apple of your eye_⌋.*

⁶ Train the child _⌊concerning his way_⌋;* even when he is old, he will not stray from it.

³ Extend your ear, and come to me! Listen so that* your soul may live, and I will _⌊make_⌋* an everlasting covenant with* you, the enduring proofs of _⌊the mercies shown to_⌋* David.

⁵⁰ And I know that his commandment is eternal life. So the things that I say, just as the Father said to me, thus I say."

⁴ And fathers, do not make your children angry, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

⁵ _⌊remembering the_⌋* sincere faith in you, which lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am convinced that is in you also,

¹⁵ and that from childhood you have known the holy writings that are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

⁹ and being perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation to all those who obey him,

² And he did what was right in the eyes of Yahweh, and he walked in the ways of David his ancestor* and did not deviate to the right or to the left.

¹¹ My foot has held on to his steps; I have kept his way, and I have not turned aside.

¹⁸ Our heart has not turned back, and our steps have not turned aside from your way.

⁵¹ The arrogant utterly deride me; I have not turned aside from your law.

¹⁵⁷ My persecutors and enemies are many, yet I do not turn aside from your testimonies.

²² "_⌊How long_⌋,* O simple ones, will you love simplicity? And how long will scoffers delight in their scoffing, and fools hate knowledge? ²³ May you turn to my argument!* Behold, I shall pour out my spirit upon you; I will make my words known to you.

² in order to incline your ear toward wisdom, then you shall apply your heart to understanding. ³ For if you cry out for understanding,* if you lift* your voice for insight, ⁴ if you seek her like silver and search her out _⌊like treasure_⌋,*

¹³ Happy is _⌊the one_⌋* who finds wisdom, and one who obtains understanding. ¹⁴ For her* income is better than the income of silver, and her revenue than that of gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies, and all your desires shall not compare with her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life for those who seize her; those who take hold of her are considered happy.

⁵ Learn prudence, O simple ones; fools, learn _⌊intelligence_⌋.*

¹⁶ Getting wisdom: _⌊how much_⌋* better than gold! And getting understanding: it is chosen _⌊over_⌋* silver.

¹⁶ Why is this? A price in the hand of a fool, in order to buy wisdom where* there is no _⌊sense_⌋.*

¹ He who is selfish seeks a craving;* against all sound judgment he shows contempt.

⁸ He who acquires wisdom loves himself;* he who guards understanding loves to find good.

²³ Buy truth and do not sell it, wisdom and instruction and understanding.

⁵ Now if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask for it from God, who gives to all without reservation and not reproaching, and it will be given to him.

¹⁰ for wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasing to your soul.* ¹¹ Discretion will watch over you; understanding will protect you, ¹² in order to deliver you from the way of evil,* from a man who speaks devious things—

²¹ May they not escape from your _⌊sight_⌋;* keep them in the midst of your heart. ²² For they are life to those who find them and healing _⌊to the entire body_⌋.*

¹⁷ that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith (you having been firmly rooted and established in love),

¹⁰ and with every unrighteous deception against those who are perishing, in place of which they did not accept the love of the truth, so that they would be saved.

¹⁶ Do not fear when a man becomes rich, when the wealth* of his house increases, ¹⁷ because when he dies he will not take away any of it. His wealth will not follow down after him. ¹⁸ Though he congratulated his soul while he was living —and people will praise you when you do well for yourself— ¹⁹ it* will go to the generation of his fathers. Never will they see light. ²⁰ Humankind in its pomp, but does not understand, is like the beasts that perish.

¹⁰⁴ From your precepts I get understanding, therefore I hate every false way.

⁶ He who makes treasure by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and seeker* of death.

⁴ _⌊I accomplished great things_⌋.* I built for myself houses; I planted for myself vineyards. ⁵ I made for myself gardens and parks, and I planted all sorts of fruit trees in them. ⁶ I made for myself pools of water from which to irrigate a grove of flourishing trees. ⁷ I acquired male slaves and female slaves, as well as children born in my house. I also had livestock, cattle, and flocks more than anyone who was before me in Jerusalem. ⁸ I also gathered to myself silver and gold—the royal and provincial treasuries. I acquired for myself male and female singers, as well as the delight of _⌊men_⌋,* _⌊voluptuous concubines_⌋.* ⁹ Thus, _⌊I accomplished far more_⌋* than anyone who was before me in Jerusalem—indeed, my wisdom stood by me.

⁸ Sometimes a man is all alone with no companion; he also has neither son nor brother. Yet there is no end to all his toil, and his eye is not satisfied with wealth. He laments, "For whom am I toiling and depriving _⌊myself_⌋* of pleasure?" This also is vanity—it is an unhappy business!

¹² _⌊For wisdom offers protection like money offers protection_⌋.* But knowledge has an advantage—wisdom restores life to its possessor.

¹⁶ So I concluded that wisdom is better than might, yet the wisdom of the poor is despised, and his words are not heard. ¹⁷ The words of the wise are heard in peace more than the shouting of a ruler is heard among the fools. ¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.

⁴⁴ "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, that a man found and* concealed, and in his joy he goes and sells everything that he has and buys that field. ⁴⁵ "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. ⁴⁶ And when he* found one very valuable pearl, he went and* sold everything that he possessed and purchased it.

³⁶ For what does it benefit a person to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? ³⁷ For what can a person give in exchange for his life?

⁴² But few things are necessary, or only one thing,* for Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her."

²⁰ But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your life* is demanded from you, and the things which you have prepared—whose will they be?'

⁸ _⌊More than that_⌋*, I even consider all things to be loss because of the surpassing greatness of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for the sake of whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and consider them* dung, in order that I may gain Christ

³⁰ Therefore,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh the God of Israel, 'though I solemnly said that your house and the house of your ancestor* would walk before me forever, but now,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me, I will treat with contempt!

⁵ Yahweh appeared to Solomon at Gibeon in a dream at night, and God said, "Ask what I should give to you." ⁶ Then Solomon said, "You have shown great loyal love with your servant David my father, as he walked before you in faithfulness and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with you. You have shown for him this great loyal love, and you have given a son to him who is sitting on his throne as it is this day. ⁷ So then, O Yahweh, you are my God. You have made your servant king in place of David my father though I am a young boy. I do not know going out or coming in. ⁸ Your servant is in the middle of your people whom you have chosen; a great people who cannot be counted or numbered because of abundance. ⁹ Give to your servant a listening heart to judge your people, to discern between good and bad, because who is able to judge this, your difficult people?" ¹⁰ The word was good in the eyes of the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ And God said to him, "Because you have asked this thing and you did not ask for yourself _⌊a long life_⌋* and you did not ask riches for yourself and you did not ask for the life of your enemies, but you have asked for yourself _⌊the ability to make wise judgments_⌋;* ¹² behold, I do hereby do according to your word. I hereby give you a wise and discerning heart; there was no one like you before you, nor afterwards will one like you arise. ¹³ Too, what you have not asked I give to you: both riches and honor, so that no man among the kings will be like you all of your days.

³⁵ They will inherit the honor of the wise, but stubborn fools, disgrace.

⁴ The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh— wealth and honor and life.

³ But the ones having insight will shine like the brightness of the expanse, and the ones providing justice for the many* will be like the stars _⌊forever and ever_⌋.*

⁹ for they are a garland of favor for your head, and pendants for your neck.

²² They shall be life for your soul* and adornment* for your neck.

³¹ A crown of glory is gray hair; by a righteous life it is gained.

⁵ In that day, Yahweh of hosts will become a garland of glory and a diadem of beauty to the remnant of his people,

⁹ Likewise also the women should adorn themselves in appropriate clothing, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold jewelry or pearls or expensive clothing, ¹⁰ but with good deeds which are fitting for women who profess godliness.

⁷ You made him for a short time lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor;* ⁸ you subjected all things under his feet.*
For in subjecting all things,* he left nothing that was not subject to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him, ⁹ but we see Jesus, for a short time made lower than the angels, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that apart from God* he might taste death on behalf of everyone.

⁴ but the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is highly valuable in the sight of God.

⁴ And when* the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

²¹ The one who conquers, I will grant to him to sit down with me on my throne, as I also have conquered and have sat down with my Father on his throne.

¹⁶ 'Honor your father and your mother, as Yahweh your God commanded you, so that it will be good for you* _⌊in the land_⌋* that Yahweh your God is giving to you.

² so that you may revere Yahweh your God by keeping all his statutes and his commandments that I am commanding you, you and your children and _⌊grandchildren_⌋,* all the days of your life and so you may live long* lives.

²² Please receive instruction from his mouth, and place his words in your heart.

¹ My child, if you will receive* my sayings, and hide my commands with you,

² For length of days, years of life, and peace they* shall add to you.

¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.

¹⁰ Take my teaching and not silver; may you choose knowledge rather than choice gold.

²⁰ For hear, O women, the word of Yahweh, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters a lamentation, and each woman her neighbor a lament.

³² What he has seen and heard, this he testifies, and no one accepts his testimony. ³³ The one who accepts his testimony has attested that God is true.

¹³ And because of this we also give thanks to God constantly, that when you* received God's word _⌊that you heard_⌋* from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it truly is, the word of God, which also is at work in you who believe.

¹⁵ The saying is trustworthy and worthy of all acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.

⁵ See, I now teach* you rules and regulations just as Yahweh my God has commanded me, to observe them just so in the midst of the land where you are going, to take possession of it.

²³ Also, as for me, far be it from me _⌊that I should sin_⌋* against Yahweh by ceasing to pray for you! I will instruct you in the good and righteous way. ²⁴ Only fear Yahweh and serve him faithfully with all of your heart. For consider _⌊what great things he has done for you_⌋.*

³ He restores my life.* He leads me in _⌊correct paths_⌋* for the sake of his name.

⁴ Make me know your ways, O Yahweh. Teach me your paths. ⁵ Cause me to walk in your truth and teach me, because you are the God of my salvation. I await you _⌊all day long_⌋.*

⁴ he taught me and said to me, "May your heart hold fast to my words; guard my commandments and live.

⁶ Listen! For noble things I will speak, and upright things from the opening of my lips.

⁹ All of them are straight to him who understands, and upright to those who find knowledge.

²⁰ In the way of righteousness I walk, in the midst of paths of justice,

⁹ The Teacher* was full of wisdom, and he taught the people with knowledge. He carefully considered many proverbs and carefully arranged them.

¹⁰ and* said, "O you who are full of all deceit and of all unscrupulousness, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness! Will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord!

³⁷ You have broadened my steps beneath me; my ankles have not wobbled.

⁷ "_⌊His strong steps_⌋* are shortened, and his own schemes* throw him down, ⁸ for he is thrust into a net by his feet, and he walks into a pitfall.

³⁶ You enlarged my step under me, and my ankles did not slip.

¹¹ For he will command his angels concerning you, to watch over you in all your ways. ¹² In their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.

¹⁶⁵ Great peace is for those who love your law, and they do not have a cause for stumbling.

²³ Then you will walk in the confidence of your ways, and your foot will not stumble.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked ones is like deep darkness; they do not know what they stumble over.

²² _⌊When you walk_⌋,* she* will lead you, _⌊When you lie down_⌋,* she will watch over you, and when you awake, she will converse with you.

⁹ With weeping they will come, and with pleas for mercy I will bring them; I will let them walk by streams of water in a straight path. They will not stumble in it, for I have become to Israel a father, and Ephraim, he is my firstborn."

⁹ Jesus replied, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks around in the daylight, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. ¹⁰ But if anyone walks around in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.

³² Why that? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if by works. They stumbled over the _⌊stone that causes people to stumble_⌋*, ³³ just as it is written,
"Behold, I am laying in Zion _⌊a stone that causes people to stumble_⌋*, and _⌊a rock that causes them to fall_⌋*, and the one who believes in him will not be put to shame."*

⁸ and
"A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense,"*
who stumble because they* disobey the word to which also they were consigned.

¹⁰ The one who loves his brother resides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. ¹¹ But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

²⁶ Then he* said, "Let me go, for dawn is breaking." But he answered, "I will not let you go unless you bless me."

⁴⁷ for it is not a trifling matter among you, but it is your life, and through this word _⌊you will live long in the land_⌋* that you are about to cross the Jordan to get there to take possession of it."

¹⁸ She is a tree of life for those who seize her; those who take hold of her are considered happy.

⁴ _⌊Scarcely had I passed_⌋* by them when I found him whom my _⌊heart_⌋* loves. I held him and I would not let him go until I brought him to the house of my mother, into the bedroom chamber of she who conceived me.

²⁷ And beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things concerning himself in all the scriptures. ²⁸ And they drew near to the village where they were going, and he acted as though he was going farther. ²⁹ And they urged him strongly, saying, "Stay with us, because it is getting toward evening, and by this time the day is far spent." And he went in to stay with them.

³⁹ Now from that town many of the Samaritans believed in him because of the word of the woman who testified, "He told me everything that I have done." ⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans came to him, they began asking* him to stay with them. And he stayed there two days. ⁴¹ And many more believed because of his word, ⁴² And they were saying to the woman, "No longer because of _⌊what you said_⌋* do we believe, for we ourselves have heard, and we know that this one is truly the Savior of the world!"

⁶⁸ Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.

⁴² And they were devoting themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayers.

²³ who, when he* arrived and saw the grace of God, rejoiced and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with _⌊devoted hearts_⌋,*

²¹ but examine all things; hold fast to what is good.

¹³ 'I know where you live, where the throne of Satan is. And you hold fast to my name and did not deny your* faith in me, even in the days of Antipas my faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan lives.

¹¹ And they conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives until death.

¹ Blessed is the man who does not walk in the advice of the wicked; nor does he stand in the way of sinners; nor does he sit in the assembly of mockers.

⁴ I do not sit with deceitful people, nor will I go about with hypocrites. ⁵ I hate the crowd of evildoers, and with the wicked I will not sit.

¹⁰ My child, if sinners entice you, do not consent.

¹⁵ My child, do not walk in their way.* Keep your foot from their paths,

⁶ Lay aside simplicity and live; walk in the way of understanding."

²⁰ Walk with the wise and be wise, but as for the companion of fools, he will suffer harm.

³³ Do not be deceived! "Bad company corrupts good morals."*

⁷ You will stay far from a _⌊false charge_⌋,* and do not kill the innocent and the righteous, because I will not declare the wicked righteous.*

¹⁴ if iniquity* is in your hand, put it far away, and you must not let wickedness reside in your tents—

²³ If you return to Shaddai, you will be restored; if you remove wickedness from your tent,

⁸ Keep your paths far from her, and do not go near to the door of her house,

⁵ Save yourself like a gazelle from a hand, or like a bird from the hand of a fowler.

¹⁵ He who walks in righteousness and speaks uprightness, who rejects the gain of extortion, who _⌊refuses_⌋* a bribe, who stops up his ears* from hearing _⌊bloodshed_⌋* and shuts his eyes from seeing evil.

¹¹ And do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even expose them.

²² Abstain from every form of evil.

⁴ He plans sin on his bed. He puts himself on a way that is not good. He does not reject evil.

¹⁶ for their feet run to evil, and they hurry to shed blood,

²⁰ But* the wicked are like the churning sea, that is not able to keep quiet, and its waters toss up mire and mud.

¹ Woe to those who plan wickedness and evil deeds upon their beds! In the light of the morning they did it, because they have power in their hands.

⁶⁶ And when day came, the council of elders of the people gathered, both chief priests and scribes, and they led him away to their Sanhedrin,*

²⁸ Then they brought Jesus from Caiaphas to the governor's residence. Now it was early, and they did not enter into the governor's residence so that they would not be defiled, but could eat the Passover.

¹⁴ having eyes full of desire for an adulteress and unceasing from sin, enticing unstable persons, and* having hearts trained for greediness. Accursed children!

⁵ "Look, like wild donkeys in the desert they* go out to their labor as searchers for the prey; the wilderness is* _⌊their_⌋* food for the young. ⁶ They reap their* fodder in the field, and they glean in the vineyard of the wicked.

⁴ All who do evil—do they not know, they who eat my people as though they were eating bread? They do not call on Yahweh.

¹⁷ "Stolen waters are sweet, and bread of secrecy is pleasant."

¹⁷ Bread gained by deceit is sweet for the man, but afterward, his mouth will be filled with gravel.

²⁶ For wicked people are found among my people, they lie in wait like the hiding of fowlers, they set up a trap, they catch humans. ²⁷ Like a cage full of birds,* so their houses are full of fraud. _⌊Therefore_⌋* they have become great, and they have become rich. ²⁸ They have grown fat, they have grown sleek, also, _⌊their evil deeds have no limit_⌋.* They do not judge with justice, the legal cause of the orphan, or allow it to succeed, and the legal case of the poor, they do not defend.

²⁵ The conspiracy of its prophets in the midst of her is like a roaring lion that is tearing prey. They devour people, and they take wealth and treasure; they make its widows numerous in the midst of her. ²⁶ Its priests treat my law violently, and they profane my holy objects; they do not distinguish between a holy object and what is unholy, or between the clean and the unclean. They do not teach the difference, and they hide their eyes from my Sabbaths, and so I am profaned in the midst of them. ²⁷ Its officials are like wolves tearing prey in its midst, to pour out blood, to destroy people, to make dishonest gain. ²⁸ And for them its prophets plaster whitewash; they are seeing falseness and are practicing divination for them by lying, saying, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh,' and Yahweh has not spoken. ²⁹ They severely oppress the people of the land, and _⌊they committed robbery_⌋,* and they mistreated the needy and the poor, and they oppressed the alien _⌊without_⌋* justice.

⁴ Hear this, those who trample on the poor and who annihilate the afflicted of the land, ⁵ saying, "When will the new moon be over, so that we can sell grain? And the Sabbath, so that we can open the grain bins, that we can make the ephah small and make the shekel large, and can practice deceit with a set of scales of deceit? ⁶ _⌊That we can_⌋* buy the powerless with silver and the poor for the sake of a pair of sandals, and we can sell the waste of the grain?"

⁵ Thus says Yahweh concerning the prophets who are leading my people astray, who are biting with their teeth and proclaim, "Peace," but whoever puts nothing into their mouths they declare war against.

¹² Because her rich are full of violence, and her inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

³ Her officials in her midst are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they leave nothing until the morning.

¹³ "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees—hypocrites!—because you shut the kingdom of heaven before people! For you do not enter, nor permit those wanting to go in* to enter.*

⁴ Behold, the wages that were held back by you from the workers who reap your fields cry out, and the cries of the reapers have come to the ears of the Lord of hosts. ⁵ You have lived self-indulgently on the earth* and have lived luxuriously. You have fattened your hearts in the day of slaughter.

⁴ Like the light of the morning when the sun rises, shining with no clouds, bringing vegetation from the earth apart from rain.'*

¹⁷ "_⌊And your life will be brighter than noon_⌋;* its darkness will be like the morning.

¹⁰ But he knows _⌊the way that I take_⌋;* he tests me—I shall come out like gold.

⁷ They go from strength to strength, until each appears before God in Zion.*

⁷ The way of the righteous is a straight path; _⌊you clear the level path of the righteous_⌋.*

³ Let us know, let us press on to know Yahweh; his rising is sure like the dawn. He will come like the showers to us, like the spring rain that waters the earth.

⁶ _⌊And then_⌋* on that day there will not be light,* the precious things will congeal.* ⁷ There shall be continuous day—it is known to Yahweh—not day and not night; and at evening time there will be light.

¹⁴ You are the light of the world. A city located on top of a hill cannot be hidden,

¹⁶ In the same way let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

⁴⁵ in order that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven, because he causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust.

¹² Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world! The one who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

¹⁸ And we all, with unveiled face, reflecting* the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory into glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

¹⁵ in order that you may become blameless and innocent, children of God without fault* in the midst of a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine as stars in the world,*

¹⁹ and we possess as more reliable the prophetic word, to which you do well if you* pay attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts,

¹⁸ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

²³ And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon, that they shine on it, for the glory of God illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb.

⁵ And night will not exist any longer, and they will not have need of the light of a lamp and the light* of the sun, because the Lord God will give light to them, and they will reign _⌊forever and ever_⌋*.

⁹ He will guard the feet of his faithful* ones, but the wicked will be destroyed* in the darkness, because a man will not prevail by his might.

¹⁴ In the daytime they meet with darkness, and they grope at noon* as in the night.

²⁵ They grope in the dark _⌊without_⌋* light, and he makes them stagger like a* drunkard.

⁵ Furthermore,* the light of the wicked is put out, and the flame of his fire will not shine. ⁶ The light becomes dark in his tent, and his lamp above him is put out.

¹⁸ "They thrust him from light into darkness, and they drive him out from the world.

¹³ those who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in ways of darkness,

⁹ Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not reach us. We wait for light, but* look! there is darkness; for brightness, but we walk in darkness. ¹⁰ We grope like the blind along a wall, and we grope _⌊as without_⌋* eyes. We stumble at noon as in the twilight; among the strong we are like the dead.

¹⁶ Give glory to Yahweh your God _⌊before_⌋* he brings darkness, and _⌊before_⌋* your feet stumble on the mountains at twilight. And you will hope for light, but he makes it as gloom, he makes it* as thick darkness.

¹² "_⌊Therefore_⌋* their way will be to them like the slippery places, they will be pushed in the darkness, and they will fall into it, for I will bring disaster on them in the year of their punishment," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

²³ And then _⌊I will say to them plainly_⌋,* 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you who practice lawlessness!'

¹⁴ Let* them! They are blind guides of the blind. And if the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit."

¹⁰ But if anyone walks around in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.

³⁵ So Jesus said to them, "Yet a little time the light is with you! Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness does not overtake you! And the one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.

¹¹ But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

Listen, O my people, to my teaching. Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

¹² So teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

²⁰ My child, keep the commandment of your father, and do not disregard the instruction of your mother. ²¹ Bind them on your heart continually; tie them upon your neck.

¹ My child, guard my sayings; store my commandments with you.

⁵ While* he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

⁸ 'I delight to do your will, O my God, and your law is _⌊deep within me_⌋.'"*

³ May loyal love* and truth not forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them upon your heart.

²¹ My child, may they* not escape from your _⌊sight_⌋;* may you keep sound wisdom and prudence.

¹ My child, guard my sayings; store my commandments with you. ² Keep my commands and live, and my teaching like the _⌊apple of your eye_⌋.*

⁸ There shall be healing for your _⌊flesh_⌋,* and refreshment for your body.

¹⁰ Listen, my child, take my sayings, and the years of your life shall be great.

¹⁸ There is one who speaks rashly, like the thrust of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

⁶ Look, I am going to bring healing and health to it, and I will heal them, and I will reveal to them abundance of peace and reliability.

²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. ²⁴ And see if there is in me _⌊the worship of false gods_⌋,* and lead me in the way everlasting.

⁷ The beginning of wisdom: Get wisdom! With all that is in your possession, gain insight.

¹⁶ A woman of grace receives honor, but the ruthless gets wealth.

³ He who keeps his mouth guards his life;* he who opens his lips, ruin belongs to him.

⁵ Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; he who guards himself* will keep away from them.

¹⁹ You, my child, hear and be wise, and direct your heart* on the road.

²⁶ He who trusts in his own heart* is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be saved.

¹³ There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: wealth _⌊hoarded_⌋* by its owner to his harm.

⁹ The heart is deceitful more than anything else, and it is disastrous. Who can understand it?

³⁴ Offspring of vipers! How are you able to say good things when you* are evil? For from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ The good person from his* good treasury brings out good things, and the evil person from his* evil treasury brings out evil things.

¹⁹ For from the heart come evil plans, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, abusive speech.

²¹ For from within, from the heart of people, come evil plans, sexual immoralities, thefts, murders, ²² adulteries, acts of greed, malicious deeds, deceit, licentiousness, _⌊envy_⌋,* abusive speech, pride, foolishness. ²³ All these evil things come from within and defile a person."

³⁸ Stay awake and pray that you will not enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak!"

⁴⁵ The good person out of the good treasury of his heart brings forth good, and the evil person out of his* evil treasury* brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

¹⁵ Take care that no one falls short of the grace of God; that no one growing up like a root of bitterness causes trouble, and by it many become defiled;

¹⁴ But each one is tempted when he* is dragged away and enticed by his own desires. ¹⁵ Then desire, after it* has conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin, when it* is brought to completion, gives birth to death.

¹² A worthless man, an evil man, goes around with _⌊deceitful speech_⌋.*

⁸ All sayings of my mouth are in righteousness; none of them are twisted and crooked.

¹³ The fear of Yahweh is hatred of evil, pride, and arrogance and an evil way. And I hate a mouth of perversity.

²⁰ He who is crooked of heart* will not find goodness, and he who is perverse, by his tongue he will fall into calamity.

³¹ Throw _⌊away from yourselves_⌋* all of your transgressions that you committed,* and make _⌊for yourselves_⌋* a new heart and new spirit, and so why will you die, house of Israel?

²⁵ Therefore, putting aside the lie, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor,* because we are members of one another. ²⁶ Be angry and do not sin;* do not let the sun set on your anger, ²⁷ nor give place to the devil. ²⁸ The one who steals must steal no longer, but instead must labor, working with his own hands what is good, so that he may have something to share with the one who has need. ²⁹ _⌊No rotten word must proceed_⌋* from your mouth, but only something good for the building up of the need, in order that it may give grace to those who hear, ³⁰ and do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. ³¹ All bitterness, and rage, and wrath, and clamor, and abusive speech, must be removed from you, together with all wickedness.

⁸ But now you also lay aside all these things: anger, rage, wickedness, slander, abusive language from your mouth.

⁵ constant wrangling by people of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who consider godliness to be a means of gain.

²¹ Therefore, putting aside all moral uncleanness and wicked excess, welcome* with humility the implanted message which is able to save your souls.

²⁶ If anyone thinks he is religious, although he* does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless.

¹ Therefore, ridding yourselves of all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander,

¹ "I made a covenant with my eyes, so* how could I look closely upon a virgin?

³⁷ Turn away my eyes from looking at what is worthless; revive me in your ways.

⁵ Your eyes will _⌊alight_⌋* on it, but there is nothing to it, for suddenly it will make for itself wings like an eagle and it will be exhausted in the heavens.

³³ Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart* will speak perverse things.

²² "The eye is the lamp of the body. Therefore if your eye is sincere, your whole body will be full of light.

²³ The steps of a man are established by Yahweh, and he takes pleasure in his way.

² And so he brought me up from the roaring pit,* from the miry clay. And he put my feet upon a rock; he made my steps steady.

⁵ Oh that my ways were steadfast, to keep your statutes!

⁵⁹ I think about my ways, and turn my feet to your testimonies.

⁶ She does not observe* the path of life; her ways wander, and she does not know it.

²¹ For before the eyes of Yahweh are _⌊human ways_⌋,* and all his paths he examines.

²⁸ And if he sees and he returns from all of his transgressions that he did, surely he will live; he will not die!

³ But the Lord is faithful, who will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.

¹³ and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame will not be dislocated, but rather be healed.

¹⁰ And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ,* after you* have suffered for a short time, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

³² "So you must be careful to do just as Yahweh your God commanded you; you shall not turn to the right or to the left.

³² * All of the things* that I am commanding you, _⌊you must diligently observe_⌋;* you shall not add to it, and you shall not take away from it."

¹⁴ And you shall not turn aside from _⌊any of_⌋* the words that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* to the right or left by going after other gods to serve them.

⁷ Only be strong and very courageous _⌊to observe diligently the whole law_⌋* that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn aside from it, to the right or left, so that you may succeed _⌊wherever you go_⌋.*

¹⁷ The highway of the upright, it turns from evil, he who guards himself* keeps his way.

¹⁶ Wash! Make yourselves clean! Remove the evil of your doings from before my eyes! Cease to do evil!

⁹ Love must be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; be attached to what is good,
