They could find no way* to a city to inhabit. ⁵ Hungry and thirsty, their soul grew faint within them. ⁶ Then they cried out to Yahweh in their trouble. He delivered them from their distresses ⁷ and led them by a straight way to get to a city to inhabit. ⁸ Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his loyal love, and his wonderful deeds for the children of humankind, ⁹ for he satisfies the longing soul,* and the hungry soul he fills with good. ¹⁰ Those who sat in darkness and gloom, prisoners of misery and iron— ¹¹ because they rebelled against the words of God and spurned the counsel of the Most High, ¹² he therefore humbled their heart with trouble. They stumbled and there was no helper. ¹³ Then they called to Yahweh for help in their trouble; he saved them from their distresses. ¹⁴ He brought them out of darkness and gloom, and tore off their bonds. ¹⁵ Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his loyal love and his wonderful deeds for the children of humankind, ¹⁶ for he shatters the doors of bronze, and cuts through the bars of iron. ¹⁷ Fools, because of their rebellious way and their iniquities, were afflicted. ¹⁸ Their soul abhorred all food, and they approached the gates of death. ¹⁹ Then they called to Yahweh for help in their trouble. He saved them from their distresses. ²⁰ He sent his word and healed them, and he delivered them from their pits.* ²¹ Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his loyal love, and his wonderful deeds for the children of humankind, ²² and let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of his works with rejoicing. ²³ Those who went down to the sea into ships, doing business on the _⌊high seas_⌋,* ²⁴ they saw the works of Yahweh, and his wonderful deeds in the deep. ²⁵ For he spoke and raised up a stormy wind, and it whipped up its waves. ²⁶ They rose to the heavens; they plunged to the depths. Their soul melted in their calamity. ²⁷ They reeled and staggered like a drunkard, and _⌊they were at their wits' end_⌋.* ²⁸ Then they cried out to Yahweh in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distresses. ²⁹ He made the storm be still and their waves became calm. ³⁰ Then they were glad because they grew silent, so he guided them to their desired harbor. ³¹ Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his loyal love and his wonderful deeds for the children of humankind, ³² and let them exalt him in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders. ³³ He turns rivers into a wilderness and springs of water into thirsty ground, ³⁴ a fruitful land into a salty place, because of the evil of its inhabitants. ³⁵ He turns a wilderness into a pool of water and a dry land into springs of water. ³⁶ And he settles the hungry there, so that they may establish a city to inhabit, ³⁷ and sow fields and plant vineyards, _⌊that they may yield fruit at harvest_⌋.* ³⁸ And he blesses them and they multiply greatly, and he does not let their cattle become few. ³⁹ When they become few and they are bent down from the oppression of calamity and grief, ⁴⁰ he pours contempt on princes and causes them to wander in a trackless waste. ⁴¹ But he protects* the needy from misery, and he makes their families like a flock. ⁴² The upright see it and are glad, and all wickedness shuts its mouth. ⁴³ Whoever is wise, then let him observe these things, and let them consider Yahweh's acts of loyal love.

³⁴ Oh give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good; his loyal love is everlasting.

⁴¹ And with them were Heman and Jeduthun and the remainder of those chosen, who were designated by name to give thanks to Yahweh, for his loyal love is everlasting.

¹³ And it was the primary duty of the trumpeters and singers to make themselves heard with one voice, to praise and give thanks to Yahweh. And when a sound from the trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments of song was raised to Yahweh—for he is good, because his loyal love is everlasting—then the house, the house of Yahweh, was filled with a cloud.

³ When all the _⌊Israelites_⌋* saw the fire come down and the glory of Yahweh upon the house, they knelt down with their faces to the ground on the pavement and worshiped and gave thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loyal love is everlasting.

⁶ And the priests stood at their posts with the Levites, with the instruments of the song of Yahweh that King David had made to give thanks to Yahweh—for his loyal love is everlasting—whenever David offered praise by their hand. Now the priests sounded trumpets standing opposite them, and all Israel stood.

²¹ And when he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed singers to Yahweh who were giving praise to the splendor of his holiness when they went out before the army. And they said, "Give thanks to Yahweh, for his loyal love is everlasting!"

⁵ For Yahweh is good; his loyal love is forever, and his faithfulness is _⌊from generation to generation_⌋.*

¹⁷ But the loyal love of Yahweh is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to their children's children,

¹⁷ And he said to him, "Why are you asking me about what is good? There is one who is good. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments!"

⁵⁰ And his mercy is for generation after generation to those who fear him.

¹⁶ Terror and dread fell on them; at the greatness of your arm they became silent like the stone, until your people passed by, Yahweh, until the people whom you bought passed by.

⁸ but* _⌊because of_⌋* the love of Yahweh for you and because of his keeping of the sworn oath that he swore to your ancestors,* Yahweh brought you out with a strong hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt.

¹⁵ And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God redeemed you; therefore I am commanding you thus _⌊today_⌋.*

⁵ Into your hand I commit my spirit. You have redeemed me, O Yahweh, faithful God.*

¹⁰ Thus he saved them from the hand of the hater and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

⁸ And he will redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

⁹ No lion shall be there, and no ferocious wild beast shall go up it. It shall not be found there, but* the redeemed shall walk there.

he who created you, Jacob, and he who formed you, Israel: "You must not fear, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name; _⌊you are mine_⌋.*

²² I have wiped your transgressions out like a cloud and your sins like mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you!"

¹² And they shall call them "The _⌊Holy People_⌋,* The Redeemed Of Yahweh," and _⌊you_⌋* shall be called "Sought After, A City Is Not Forsaken."

⁴ for the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my blood-vengeance has come!

²¹ "And I will deliver you from the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem you from the hand of the tyrant."

¹¹ For Yahweh has ransomed Jacob, and he has redeemed him from the hand of the person _⌊stronger_⌋* than he.

¹⁰ Writhe and groan, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in labor. For now you will go forth from the city, and you will camp in the field; you will go to Babylon. There you will be rescued; there Yahweh will redeem you from the hand of your enemies.

⁶⁸ "Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has visited to help and _⌊has redeemed_⌋* his people,

⁷⁴ that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, could serve him without fear

²¹ But we were hoping that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. But in addition to all these things, this is the third day _⌊since_⌋* these things took place.

¹³ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by* becoming a curse for us, because it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree,"*

¹⁴ who gave himself for us, in order that he might redeem us from all lawlessness and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good deeds.

¹⁸ because you* know that you were redeemed from your futile way of life inherited from your ancestors not with perishable things like silver or gold, ¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb

³ and Yahweh your God will restore your fortunes, and he will have compassion upon you, and _⌊he will again gather you together_⌋* from all the peoples where Yahweh your God scattered you there.

⁴⁷ Save us, O Yahweh our God, and gather us from the nations, so that we may give thanks to your holy name and boast in your praise.

¹¹ And this shall happen on that day:
The Lord will again extend his hand a second time to acquire the remnant of his people that is left, from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the coastlands of the sea, ¹² and he will raise a signal for the nations. And he will gather the outcasts of Israel, and he will gather the scattered ones of Judah together from the four _⌊corners_⌋* of the earth. ¹³ And the jealousy of Ephraim shall depart, and the enemies of Judah shall be cut off. Ephraim shall not be jealous of Judah, and Judah shall not be an enemy of Ephraim. ¹⁴ But they shall _⌊swoop_⌋* upon the Philistine shoulder,* _⌊westward_⌋.* Together they shall plunder the sons of the east. Edom and Moab _⌊will be under their command_⌋,* and the sons of Ammon will be their subjugated people. ¹⁵ And Yahweh will divide* the tongue* of the sea of Egypt,* and he will wave his hand over the river* with his scorching wind; and he will strike it into seven streams, and he will _⌊make it passable by foot_⌋.* ¹⁶ So there shall be a highway from Assyria for the remnant of his people that remains, as there was for Israel _⌊when_⌋* it went up from the land of Egypt.

⁵ You must not fear, for I am with you. I will bring your _⌊offspring_⌋* from the east, and I will gather you from the west. ⁶ I will say to the north, 'Give!' and to the south, 'You must not withhold!' Bring my sons from far away, and my daughters from the end of the earth—

¹² Look! These shall come from afar, And look! These from the north and from the west and these from the land of Sinim."

⁸ _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, who gathers* the scattered ones of Israel (still I will gather to* him, to his gathered ones).

¹⁴ And I will let myself be found by you,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'and I will restore your fortunes,* and I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places to which I have driven you,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'and I will bring you back to the place from which I deported you.'

⁸ Look, I am going to bring them from the land of the north, and I will gather them from the remotest part of the earth. Among them the blind, and the lame, those who are pregnant, and those who give birth, together, a great assembly, they will return here.

¹⁰ Hear the word of Yahweh, O nations, and declare in the coastlands from afar, and say, "The scatterer of Israel will gather him, and he will keep him as a shepherd his flock.

³⁴ And I will bring you from the peoples, and I will gather you from the countries to which you were scattered with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm and with rage poured out.

²⁴ " 'And I will take you from the nations, and I will gather you from all of the lands, and I will bring you to your land.

²⁷ When I restore them from the nations and I gather them from the countries of their enemies, then I will show myself holy through them before the eyes of many nations.

⁹ And they were singing a new song, saying,
"You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slaughtered, and bought people for God by your blood from every tribe and language and people and nation,

¹⁴ Then Abraham rose up early in the morning and took bread and a skin of water and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder. And he sent her away with the child, and she went, wandering about in the wilderness, in Beersheba. ¹⁵ And when the water was finished from the skin, she put the child under one of the bushes. ¹⁶ And she went and _⌊she sat a good distance away_⌋,* for she said, "Let me not see the child's death." So she sat away from him and lifted up her voice and wept.

³³ And your children will be shepherds in the desert forty years,* and you will bear your unfaithfulness until _⌊all your corpses have fallen_⌋* in the desert.

¹³ And _⌊Yahweh became angry_⌋,* and he made them wander in the desert forty years until the entire generation who did evil in the _⌊sight of Yahweh_⌋* _⌊had died_⌋.*

¹⁵ the one leading you in the great and terrible desert infested with _⌊dangerous_⌋* snakes* and scorpions* and parched ground, where there is* no water, and the one bringing out water for you from flint rock,

¹⁰ He found him in a desert land, and in a howling, desert wasteland; he _⌊encircled him_⌋,* he cared for him, he protected him like the _⌊apple_⌋* of his eye.

²⁴ He strips away the insight of the heads of the earth's people, and he makes them wander in _⌊a pathless wasteland_⌋.*

⁶ My flock went astray upon all of the mountains and on every high hill, and so upon all the surface of the world* my flock were scattered, and _⌊there was no one seeking them_⌋,* and _⌊there was no one searching for them_⌋."*

¹² just like the caring of a shepherd for his herd on* the day when he is in the midst of his scattered flock. Thus I will look after my flock, and I will deliver them from all the places _⌊to which they were scattered_⌋* on the day _⌊of storm and stress_⌋.*

³⁸ of whom the world was not worthy, wandering about on deserts and mountains and in caves and in holes in the ground.

⁶ And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she had a place prepared there by God, so that they could feed her there for one thousand two hundred sixty days.

¹⁸ And he was very thirsty, and he called to Yahweh and said, "You gave this great victory into the hand of your servant, but now I must die of thirst and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?" ¹⁹ So God split the hollow place that is at Lehi, and water came out from it; and he drank, and his spirit returned, and he was revived. Thus he called its name _⌊The Spring of Ha-Qore_⌋,* which is at Lehi to this day.

¹¹ Then they found an Egyptian man in the open country and brought him to David, and they gave him food and he ate; they also gave him water. ¹² They gave him a slice of fig cake and two raisin cakes; he ate and _⌊this revived him_⌋,* because he had not eaten food or drunk water for three days and three nights.

¹² The _⌊ironsmith_⌋* works in the coals with his tool and forms it with hammers. And he makes it with _⌊his strong arm_⌋;* indeed, he becomes hungry, and _⌊he lacks_⌋* strength; he does not drink water, and he is faint.

¹⁸ If I go out into the field, then look, those slain by the sword. And if I enter the city, then look, the sickness of the famine. For both prophet and priest wander around through the land, _⌊they do not know what is going on_⌋.'"*

² "I have compassion on the crowd, because they have remained with me three days already and do not have anything to eat. ³ And if I send them away hungry to their homes they will give out on the way, and some of them have come from far away."

¹⁵ And call me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will glorify me."

I will make the wilderness like a pool of water and the land of dryness like springs of water.

¹² Then when you call me, and you come and pray to me, then I will listen to you. ¹³ When you search for me, then you will find me, if you seek me with all your heart. ¹⁴ And I will let myself be found by you,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'and I will restore your fortunes,* and I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places to which I have driven you,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'and I will bring you back to the place from which I deported you.'

¹⁵ _⌊I will return again_⌋* to my place until they acknowledge their guilt and seek my face; in their distress they will search* me.

⁸ For we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning our affliction that happened in the province of Asia,* that we were burdened to an extraordinary degree, beyond our strength, so that we were in despair even of living. ⁹ But we ourselves had the sentence of death in ourselves, so that we would not be putting confidence in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead, ¹⁰ who delivered us from so great a risk of death, and will deliver us, in whom we have put our hope that he will also deliver us again,

⁸ Three times I appealed to the Lord about this, that it would depart from me. ⁹ And he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, because the* power is perfected in weakness." Therefore rather I will boast most gladly in my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may reside in me. ¹⁰ Therefore I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in calamities, in persecutions and difficulties for the sake of Christ, for whenever I am weak, then I am strong.

¹¹ persecutions, and sufferings that happened to me in Antioch, in Iconium, and in Lystra, what sort of persecutions I endured, and the Lord delivered me from all of them.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who is not able to sympathize with our weaknesses, but who has been tempted in all things in the same way, without sin. ¹⁶ Therefore let us approach with confidence to the throne of grace, in order that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

²¹ I proclaimed a fast there at the river Ahava to humble ourselves before our God in order to seek from him a safe journey for us, our children, and our possessions. ²² For I was ashamed to ask the king for troops and horses to protect us from enemies on the way because we said to the king, "the hand of our God is favorable to all who seek him, but his strength and anger are against all who forsake them." ²³ So we fasted and sought our God for this and he responded to our prayer.

³ These are the heads of the province who lived in Jerusalem, but in the cities of Judah each one lived on his property in their cities: Israel, the priests, the Levites, the temple servants, and the descendants* of Solomon's servants.

²⁰ You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

⁵² Then he led out his people like sheep and guided them like a herd in the wilderness.

⁴ They wandered in the wilderness, in a desert. They could find no way* to a city to inhabit.

³⁶ And he settles the hungry there, so that they may establish a city to inhabit,

²¹ And your ears shall hear a word from behind you, saying, "this is the way; walk in it," when you go to your right and when you go to your left.

⁸ And a highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called the way of holiness. The unclean shall not travel through it, but* it is for them, he who walks on the way; and fools shall not wander about. ⁹ No lion shall be there, and no ferocious wild beast shall go up it. It shall not be found there, but* the redeemed shall walk there. ¹⁰ And the ransomed of Yahweh shall return, and they shall come to Zion with rejoicing. And everlasting joy shall be on their head; joy and gladness shall overtake them, and sorrow and sighing shall flee.

¹⁷ Thus says Yahweh, your redeemer, the holy one of Israel:
"I am Yahweh your God, _⌊who teaches_⌋* you to profit, leads you in the way you should go.

⁸ Thus says Yahweh:
"I have answered you in a time of favor, and helped you on a day of salvation, and watched over you, and given you as a covenant of the people, to raise up the land, to give the desolate hereditary property as an inheritance, ⁹ saying to the _⌊prisoners_⌋,* "Come out!" to those who are in darkness, "Show yourselves!" they shall feed _⌊along_⌋* the ways, and their pasturage shall be on all the barren heights. ¹⁰ They shall not be hungry or thirsty, and heat and sun shall not strike them, for he who takes pity on them will lead them, and he will guide them to springs of water. ¹¹ And I will _⌊make_⌋* all my mountains like a road, and my highways shall lead up.*

¹³ _⌊who led_⌋* them through the depths? They did not stumble like a horse in the desert; ¹⁴ like cattle in the valley that goes down, the Spirit of Yahweh _⌊gave him rest_⌋,* so you lead your people to make a magnificent name for yourself.

¹⁶ Thus says Yahweh: "Stand at the roads and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the way of the good is, and walk in it, and find rest for your inner selves.* But they said, 'We will not walk in it.'*

⁹ With weeping they will come, and with pleas for mercy I will bring them; I will let them walk by streams of water in a straight path. They will not stumble in it, for I have become to Israel a father, and Ephraim, he is my firstborn."

²⁴ And Judah and all of its towns together will live in it, farmers and those who travel with the flocks.*

³⁸ "Look, days are coming," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and the city will be rebuilt for Yahweh, from the Tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate. ³⁹ And _⌊the measuring line_⌋* will still go out immediately in front of it to the hill of Gareb, and it will turn to Goah. ⁴⁰ And the whole of the valley of the corpses, and the ashes, and all the cultivated fields up to the wadi of Kidron, up to the corner of the Gate of the Horses toward the east will be holy to Yahweh. It will not be uprooted, and it will not be overthrown again _⌊forever_⌋."*

¹⁰ "Thus says Yahweh: 'Again will be heard in this place, of which you are saying, "It is a waste, _⌊without_⌋* people and _⌊without_⌋* animals,"* in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate, _⌊without_⌋* people and _⌊without_⌋* inhabitants* and _⌊without_⌋* animals,* ¹¹ the voice of jubilation, and the voice of joy, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voices* of those who say, "Praise Yahweh of hosts, for Yahweh is good, for his loyal love is _⌊forever_⌋,"* the voices of those who bring thank offerings* to the house of Yahweh, for I will restore the fortunes* of the land as in the beginning,' says Yahweh. ¹² Thus says Yahweh of hosts: 'Again there will be in this waste place, _⌊without_⌋* people and animals,* and in all its towns, pasture for shepherds allowing their flock to lie down. ¹³ In the towns of the hill country, in the towns of the Shephelah, and in the towns of the Negev, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the surroundings of Jerusalem, and in the towns of Judah, flocks will again pass under the hands of the counter,' says Yahweh.

⁹ By faith he lived in the land of promise as a stranger, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the fellow heirs of the same promise. ¹⁰ For he was expecting the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.

¹⁶ But now they aspire to a better land, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

²² But you have come to Mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, to the heavenly Jerusalem, and to tens of thousands of angels, to the festal gathering

¹⁵ By* leaving the straight path, they have gone astray, because they* followed the way of Balaam the son of Bosor,* who loved the wages of unrighteousness,

²¹ For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than having known it, to turn back from the holy commandment that had been delivered to them.

² And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. ³ And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
"Behold, the dwelling of God is with humanity, and he will take up residence with them, and they will be his people and God himself will be with them.* ⁴ And he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will not exist any longer, and* mourning or wailing or pain will not exist any longer. The former things* have passed away."

¹⁰ And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and lofty mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, ¹¹ that has the glory of God. Its radiance is like a precious stone, something like a jasper stone, shining like crystal. ¹² It has* a great and high wall that has twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written on the gates which are* of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel— ¹³ on the east, three gates, and on the north, three gates, and on the south, three gates, and on the west, three gates. ¹⁴ And the wall of the city has twelve foundations, and on them are twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. ¹⁵ And the one who spoke with me was holding a golden measuring rod in order that he could measure the city and its gates and its wall. ¹⁶ And the city is laid out as a square, and its length is the same as its width. And he measured the city with the measuring rod at twelve thousand stadia;* the length and the width and the height of it are equal. ¹⁷ And he measured its wall, one hundred forty-four cubits* _⌊according to human measure_⌋*, which is the angel's. ¹⁸ And the material of its wall is jasper, and the city is pure gold, similar in appearance to pure glass. ¹⁹ The foundations of the wall of the city are adorned with every kind of precious stone: the first foundation jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, ²⁰ the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. ²¹ And the twelve gates are twelve pearls, each one of the gates was from a single pearl. And the street of the city is pure gold, like transparent glass. ²² And I did not see a temple in it, for the Lord God All-Powerful is its temple, and the Lamb. ²³ And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon, that they shine on it, for the glory of God illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb. ²⁴ And the nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. ²⁵ And its gates will never be shut by day (for there will be no night there), ²⁶ and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. ²⁷ And every unclean thing and one who practices* detestable things and falsehood will never enter into it, except those who are written in the book of life of the Lamb.

²⁹ _⌊If only_⌋* _⌊they had such a mind_⌋';* that is, to fear me and to keep all my commandments _⌊at all times_⌋,* so that _⌊it will go well_⌋* for them and for their children _⌊forever_⌋.*

²⁹ If only they were wise, they would understand this; they would discern _⌊for themselves their end_⌋.*

³ Magnify Yahweh with me, and let us exalt his name together.

⁵ Many things, O Yahweh my God, you have done— your wonderful deeds and your thoughts toward us. There is none to compare with you. If I tried to proclaim and tell of them, they would be too numerous to count.

⁴ We will not hide them from their children,* telling the next generation the praises of Yahweh, and his power and his wonders that he has done.

¹³ Oh that my people would listen to me; that Israel would walk in my ways. ¹⁴ I would subdue their enemies quickly, and turn my hand against their adversaries. ¹⁵ Those who hate Yahweh would cringe before him, and their fate* would be forever. ¹⁶ But he would feed him* from the choicest wheat,* and I would satisfy you with honey from a rock."

It is good to give thanks to Yahweh, and to sing praise concerning your name, O Most High; ² to declare in the morning your loyal love and your faithfulness in the night,

¹⁸ O that you had listened attentively to my commandments!
Then* your prosperity would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

⁷ I will mention the loyal love of Yahweh, the praises of Yahweh, according to all that Yahweh has done for us, and the greatness of goodness to the house of Israel that he has done to them according to his mercy and the abundance of his loyal love.

² It is pleasing to me to recount the signs and wonders that the Most High God worked for me. ³ How great are his signs and wonders, how strong is his kingdom, _⌊an everlasting kingdom_⌋;* and his sovereignty is from generation to generation.

²⁷ He is rescuing, delivering, and working signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth, for he has rescued Daniel from the _⌊power_⌋* of the lions."

²⁶ The afflicted will eat and will be satisfied. Those who seek him will praise Yahweh. May your* heart live forever.

¹⁰ The young lions are in want and suffer hunger, but those who seek Yahweh will not lack for any good thing.

¹⁵ I will bless its provisions abundantly; I will satisfy its poor with bread.

⁷ who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food for the hungry. Yahweh sets prisoners free;

¹ "Ho! Everyone thirsty, come to the waters! And whoever has no money, come, buy and eat, and come, buy without money, wine and milk without price! ² Why do you weigh out money for what is not food, and your labor for _⌊what cannot satisfy_⌋?* Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and let your soul take pleasure in _⌊rich_⌋* food. ³ Extend your ear, and come to me! Listen so that* your soul may live, and I will _⌊make_⌋* an everlasting covenant with* you, the enduring proofs of _⌊the mercies shown to_⌋* David.

¹⁴ And I will saturate the appetite of the priests with fatness, and my people will be satisfied with my goodness," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

²⁵ For I will saturate the thirst of the weary, and every person who languishes I will replenish."

⁶ Blessed are the ones who hunger and thirst for righteousness, because they will be satisfied.

⁵³ He has filled those who are hungry with good things, and those who are rich he has sent away empty-handed.

¹⁶ They will not be hungry any longer or be thirsty any longer, nor will the sun ever beat down on them, nor any heat,* ¹⁷ because the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and will lead them to springs of living waters, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."*

²³ _⌊And then_⌋* during those many days, the king of Egypt died, and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* groaned because of the work, and they cried out, and their cry for help because of the work went up to God. ²⁴ And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob,

¹¹ So Yahweh brought the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria upon them, and they took Manasseh captive with hooks, and they bound him with bronze fetters and brought him to Babylon.

⁵ Let darkness and deep shadow claim it; let clouds* settle on it; let them* terrify it with the blackness* of day.

⁸ "And if they are tied up with fetters, if they are caught in the cords of misery, ⁹ then* he declares their work to them, and their transgressions, that they are behaving arrogantly.

¹⁸ They clamped* his feet in fetters.* His neck* went into irons.*

² The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; light has shined on those who lived in a land of darkness.

⁷ to open the blind eyes, to bring the prisoner out from the dungeon, those who sit in darkness from the house of imprisonment.

⁶ In darkness he has let me dwell like the dead of long ago. ⁷ He has built a wall around me, I cannot go out; he has made my bronze fetters heavy.

⁸ You should not rejoice over me, O my enemy! When I fall I will stand up; when I sit in darkness Yahweh will be a light for me.

¹⁶ the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, and the ones who sit in the land and shadow of death, a light has dawned on them."*

¹³ Then the king said to the servants, 'Tie him up _⌊hand and foot_⌋* and* throw him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!'

⁷⁹ to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to direct our feet into the way of peace."

²⁰ For when you were slaves of sin, you were free with respect to righteousness. ²¹ Therefore what sort of fruit did you have then, about which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

⁵ Those who were full must hire themselves out for bread, but those who are hungry will become fat. As for the infertile, she will bear seven, but she who has many sons withers away. ⁶ Yahweh kills and restores alive, he brings down to Sheol* and raises up. ⁷ Yahweh makes poor and makes rich; he brings low and also exalts. ⁸ He raises up the poor from the dust. From the ash heap he lifts up the needy, to cause them to sit with noble people and to cause them to inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth belong to Yahweh and he has set the inhabited world on them.

¹⁵ So _⌊Yahweh became very angry_⌋* with Amaziah and sent a prophet to him, and he said to him, "Why have you sought the gods of the people who could not deliver their own people from your hand?" ¹⁶ And it happened that while he was speaking to him, he said to him, "Have we appointed you as a counselor to the king? Stop—_⌊why should you be killed_⌋?"* So the prophet stopped and said, "I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my advice."

¹⁰ And Yahweh spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they would not listen.

¹⁶ But they were mocking the messengers of God and despising his words and scoffing at his prophets until the wrath of Yahweh rose against his people until there was no remedy.

⁶ God settles the lonely in a home; he brings prisoners out into prosperity. But the rebellious abide in a barren land.

¹⁸ You have ascended on high; you have led away captives. You have received gifts from among humankind, and even from the rebellious, so that Yah* God may dwell there.

²⁴ You will guide me with your advice, and afterward you will take me into honor.*

⁴⁰ How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and vexed him in the wasteland!

⁷ Our ancestors* in Egypt did not understand your wonderful works. They did not remember your many acts of loyal love, and so they rebelled by the sea at _⌊the Red Sea_⌋.*

⁴³ Many times he delivered them, but they rebelled in their counsel, and were brought low by their iniquity.

⁷ He raises the helpless from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap, ⁸ to seat them with princes, with the princes of his people. ⁹ He causes the barren woman of the house to dwell as the happy mother of children. Praise Yah!*

²⁴ Your testimonies are my delight, _⌊my counselors_⌋.*

²⁵ You have ignored all my counsel, and my reproof you are not willing to accept.

³⁰ they were not willing to accept my counsel, they despised all my reproof. ³¹ They shall eat from the fruit of their way, and they shall be sated from their own schemes,

¹⁹ those who say, "Let him make haste; let him hurry his work so that we may see it and let it draw near and let the plan of the holy one of Israel come so that we may know it!"

¹⁰ But* they _⌊were the ones who_⌋* rebelled, and they grieved _⌊his Holy Spirit_⌋,* so* he _⌊became an enemy to them_⌋;* he himself fought against them. ¹¹ Then* his people remembered the days of old, of Moses. Where is the one who led up them from the sea with the shepherds of his flock? Where is the one who puts _⌊his Holy Spirit_⌋* inside him,

¹⁶ "Concerning the word that you have spoken to us in the name of Yahweh, we are not going to listen to you!

³⁹ Why should any living person complain about his sin? ⁴⁰ Let us test and examine our ways; let us return to Yahweh. ⁴¹ Let us lift up our hearts with our hands to God in the heavens. ⁴² We ourselves have transgressed and rebelled, you have not forgiven.

¹⁵ The joy of our hearts has stopped; our circle-dancing has changed to a mourning ceremony. ¹⁶ The crown has fallen from our head; woe to us, for we have sinned! ¹⁷ Because of this, our heart has become faint, because of these, our eyes have become dim.

³⁰ but the Pharisees and the legal experts rejected the purpose of God for themselves, because they* had not been baptized by him.)

¹⁴ Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him.

²⁷ for I did not shrink from proclaiming to you the whole purpose of God.

²⁸ And just as they did not see fit _⌊to recognize God_⌋*, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do the things that are not proper,

²³ _⌊And then_⌋* during those many days, the king of Egypt died, and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* groaned because of the work, and they cried out, and their cry for help because of the work went up to God.

¹⁸ And now go, work, but straw will not be given to you, and you must give the full quota of bricks." ¹⁹ And the foremen of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* saw they were in trouble _⌊with the saying_⌋,* "You will not reduce from your bricks _⌊for each day_⌋* on its day."

¹⁶ So they removed the foreign gods from their midst and served Yahweh; and _⌊he could no longer bear_⌋* the misery of Israel. ¹⁷ And the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* were summoned,* and they camped in Gilead. And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* gathered and camped at Mizpah. ¹⁸ The people, the ones commanding Gilead, _⌊said to each other_⌋,* "Who is the man that will begin to fight against the _⌊Ammonites_⌋?* He will be as head over all the inhabitants of Gilead."

²¹ And the Philistines seized him, gouged his eyes, and brought him to Gaza. They tied him up with bronze shackles, and he became a grinder _⌊in the prison_⌋.*

³⁰ And Samson said, "Let me die with the Philistines." And he pushed* with all his strength, and the house* fell on the rulers and all of the people who were with him. And the dead whom he killed in his death were more than those he killed in his life.

²⁶ It happened that the king of Israel was crossing over on the wall, and a woman called out to him, saying, "Help, my lord the king!" ²⁷ He said, "No, let Yahweh help you. _⌊How_⌋* can I save you? From the threshing floor or from the wine press?"

³³ While he was still speaking with them, suddenly the messenger was coming down to him, and he said, "Look this trouble is from Yahweh. Why should I wait for Yahweh any longer?"

³⁷ Its rich yield goes to the kings whom you have given over us because of our sins, and they are ruling over our dead bodies and our livestock at their pleasure. We are in great trouble.

¹³ God will not turn back his anger; beneath him the helpers of Rahab bow.

⁴⁰ And you _⌊made my enemies turn their backs_⌋,* then I destroyed those who hated me. ⁴¹ They cried out but there was no rescuer, even to Yahweh, but he did not answer them.

¹¹ Do not be far from me because trouble is near; because there is no helper.

⁴ look to my right and see. There is no one looking out for me; there is no escape for me;* no one cares for my soul.*

¹⁹ Two things here have happened to you—who will _⌊show sympathy_⌋* for you?— devastation and destruction, famine and sword—who will comfort you? ²⁰ Your children have fainted; they lie at the head of all the streets, like an antelope in* a snare, those who are full of the wrath of Yahweh, the rebuke of your God.

²³ And I will put it in the hand of your tormenters, who have said to _⌊you_⌋,* 'Bow down that* we may _⌊pass_⌋* over you!' And you have _⌊made_⌋* your back like the ground, and like the street for those who _⌊pass_⌋* over you."

⁵ And now what do I have here?"_⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "for my people is taken without cause. Its rulers howl," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh—"and my name is reviled continually, all day.

⁵ And I looked, but* there was no helper, and I was appalled, but* there was no one who sustains, so* my arm came to assist me, and my wrath _⌊was what_⌋* sustained me.

⁵ We are driven on our necks; we are weary, there is no rest for us. ⁶ We have made a deal with Egypt and Assyria to be satisfied with food.

¹⁴ And after* he had spent everything, there was a severe famine throughout that country, and he began to be in need. ¹⁵ And he went and* hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to tend pigs. ¹⁶ And he was longing to fill his stomach with* the carob pods that the pigs were eating, and no one was giving anything* to him. ¹⁷ "But when he* came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired workers have an abundance _⌊of food_⌋,* and I am dying here from hunger!

⁷ And Yahweh said, "Surely I have seen the misery of my people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry of distress because of their oppressors, for I know their sufferings. ⁸ And I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from this land to a good and wide land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites.*

³ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* cried to Yahweh, as he had nine hundred iron chariots,* and he oppressed the _⌊Israelites_⌋* _⌊cruelly_⌋* for twenty years.*

⁶ Israel was very poor because of the presence of the Midianites,* and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* cried out to Yahweh. ⁷ When the _⌊Israelites_⌋* cried out to Yahweh on account of the Midianites,* ⁸ Yahweh sent a prophet to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and he said to them, "Thus says Yahweh the God of Israel: 'I brought you up from Egypt; I brought you from the house of slavery.* ⁹ I delivered you from the hand of Egypt and from the hand of all your oppressors, and drove them out from _⌊before you_⌋;* and I gave you their land. ¹⁰ And I said to you, 'I am Yahweh your God; do not fear* the gods of the Amorites,* in whose land you are living.' But you have not listened to my voice."

¹⁰ Then the _⌊Israelites_⌋* cried out to Yahweh, saying, "We have sinned against you; we have abandoned our God and served the Baals." ¹¹ And Yahweh said to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* "Did I not deliver you from the Egyptians,* the Amorites,* from the _⌊Ammonites_⌋,* and from the Philistines?* ¹² And when the Sidonians, the Amalekites,* and the Maonites* oppressed you, you cried out to me, and I delivered you from their hand. ¹³ Yet you have abandoned me and served other gods. Therefore I will no longer deliver you. ¹⁴ Go and cry out to the gods whom you have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your trouble." ¹⁵ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* said to Yahweh, "We have sinned; _⌊do to us accordingly as you see fit_⌋;* only please deliver us this day."

¹² And when he was in distress he entreated Yahweh his God and greatly humbled himself before the God of his ancestors* ¹³ and prayed to him. And God responded to him and heard his plea and let him return to Jerusalem to his kingdom. And Manasseh knew that Yahweh was God.

¹⁸ Now the remainder of the words of Manasseh and his prayer to his God and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel, behold, they are in the words of the kings of Israel. ¹⁹ And his prayer, and how he* responded to him, all his sin and his unfaithful acts, and the places where he built the high places and set up Asherahs and idols before he humbled himself, behold, they are written in the words of the seers.

⁶ In my trouble I called on Yahweh, and to my God I cried for help. He heard my voice from his temple, and my cry for help came up before his presence into his ears.

⁶ Then they cried out to Yahweh in their trouble. He delivered them from their distresses

³ The ropes of death encircled me, and the distresses of Sheol found me. I found trouble and grief. ⁴ Then I called on the name of Yahweh: "O Yahweh, please save my life!" ⁵ Gracious is Yahweh and righteous, and our God is merciful. ⁶ Yahweh watches over the simple. I was brought low, but he gave me victory.

¹⁸ Indeed I heard Ephraim pitying themselves, 'You disciplined me, and I was disciplined, like a calf that is not trained. Bring me back and let me return, for you are Yahweh my God. ¹⁹ For after my turning back I repented, and after coming to understand I struck my thigh. I was ashamed and also humiliated, because I bore the disgrace of my youth.' ²⁰ Is Ephraim my dear son, or the child of my delight? For _⌊as often as_⌋* I have earnestly spoken against him, I still remember him. _⌊Therefore_⌋* my bowels are turbulent for him, surely I will have compassion on him," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

²¹ Before I go—and I will not return— to the land of darkness and deep shadow, ²² to the land of darkness, like the darkness of a deep shadow and _⌊chaos_⌋,* so that* it shines forth like darkness.'"

²² _⌊He cannot trust that he will return_⌋* from darkness, and he himself* is destined for the sword.

³⁰ "He will not escape from darkness; a flame will dry up his new shoot, and by the wind of his mouth he shall be removed.

⁸ He has walled up my way so that* I cannot pass; and he has set darkness upon my paths.

³⁰ to bring his life back from the pit _⌊so that he may enjoy the light of life_⌋.*

⁸ "And if they are tied up with fetters, if they are caught in the cords of misery,

¹⁰ Then* Yahweh returned Job's fortune when he prayed to him on behalf of his friends. Thus* Yahweh increased _⌊all that Job had twice as much as before_⌋.* ¹¹ So* all his brothers and all his sisters and all those who had known him _⌊before_⌋* came to him, and they ate bread* with him in his house and showed sympathy to him and comforted him for all the disaster* that Yahweh had brought upon him. Then* each one gave to him one piece of money, and each one gave to him one ornamental ring of gold. ¹² So* Yahweh blessed Job's latter days more than his beginning. _⌊Thus he had_⌋* fourteen thousand sheep and goats and six thousand camels and a thousand pair of oxen and a thousand female donkeys.

²⁰ to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to liberate _⌊those destined to die_⌋,*

¹⁹ Until the time his word came about, the word of Yahweh tested* him. ²⁰ The king sent and he freed him; the ruler of the peoples sent and let him loose.

¹⁰ Those who sat in darkness and gloom, prisoners of misery and iron—

¹⁶ Ah, Yahweh, I am indeed your servant; I am your servant, the child of your maidservant. You have loosed my bonds.

¹⁶ And I will lead the blind by a road they do not know; I will cause them to tread on paths they have not known. I will make darkness _⌊in their presence_⌋* into light and rough places into level ground. These are the things I will do, and I will not forsake them.

⁹ saying to the _⌊prisoners_⌋,* "Come out!" to those who are in darkness, "Show yourselves!" they shall feed _⌊along_⌋* the ways, and their pasturage shall be on all the barren heights.

¹ "Arise, shine! For your light has come, and the glory of Yahweh has risen on you. ² For look! darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples, but* Yahweh will rise on you, and his glory will appear over you. ³ And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the bright light of your sunrise.

¹ The Spirit of the Lord Yahweh is upon me, because Yahweh has anointed me, he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up _⌊the brokenhearted_⌋,* to _⌊proclaim_⌋* release to the captives and liberation to those who are bound,

³¹ _⌊And then_⌋* in the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin, the king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-fifth day of the month, Evil-merodach, the king of Babylon, in the first year of his reign, lifted up the head of Jehoiachin, the king of Judah, and brought him out from _⌊prison_⌋.* ³² Then he spoke with him kindly and gave his seat above the seats* of the kings who were with him in Babylon. ³³ So he changed the garments of his imprisonment and he ate food _⌊before him_⌋* continually all the days of his life. ³⁴ And his allowance, a continual allowance was given to him by the king of Babylon _⌊on a daily basis_⌋* all the days of his life up to the day of his death.

¹¹ As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant, I will release your prisoners from _⌊the waterless pit_⌋.* ¹² Return to the fortress, O prisoners of hope; today I am declaring that I will repay you double.

¹⁶ And this woman, who is a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan bound _⌊eighteen_⌋* long years—is it not necessary that she be released from this bond on the day of the Sabbath?"

¹⁹ But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison and led them out and* said,

²⁵ But someone came and* reported to them, "Behold, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple courts* and teaching the people!"

⁷ And behold, an angel of the Lord stood near him,* and a light shone in the prison cell. And striking Peter's side, he woke him up, saying, "Get up _⌊quickly_⌋!"* And his chains fell off of his* hands. ⁸ And the angel said to him, "Gird yourself and put on your sandals!" And he did so. And he said to him, "Wrap your cloak around you and follow me!" ⁹ And he went out and* was following him.* And he did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but was thinking he was seeing a vision. ¹⁰ And after they* had passed the first and second guard, they came to the iron gate that leads to the city, which opened for them by itself, and they went out and* went forward along one narrow street, and at once the angel departed from him.

²⁶ And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened and all the bonds* were unfastened. ²⁷ And after* the jailer was awake and saw the doors of the prison open, he drew his* sword and* was about to kill himself, because he* thought the prisoners had escaped. ²⁸ But Paul called out with a loud voice, saying, "Do no harm to yourself, for we are all here!" ²⁹ And demanding lights, he rushed in and, _⌊beginning to tremble_⌋,* fell down at the feet of Paul and Silas. ³⁰ And he brought them outside and* said, "Sirs, what must I do so that I can be saved?" ³¹ And they said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household!" ³² And they spoke the message of the Lord to him, together with all those in his house. ³³ And he took them at that very hour of the night and* washed their* wounds, and he himself was baptized at once, and all those of his household.* ³⁴ And he brought them up into his* house and* set a meal before them,* and rejoiced greatly that he had believed in God with his whole household. ³⁵ And when it* was day, the chief magistrates sent the police officers, saying, "Release those men." ³⁶ And the jailer reported these words to Paul: "The chief magistrates have sent an order* that you should be released. So come out now and* go in peace!" ³⁷ But Paul said to them, "They beat us in public without due process—men who are Roman citizens—and* threw us* into prison, and now they are wanting to release us secretly? Certainly not! Rather let them come themselves and* bring us out!" ³⁸ So the police officers reported these words to the chief magistrates, and they were afraid when they* heard that they were Roman citizens. ³⁹ And they came and* apologized to* them, and after they* brought them* out they asked them* to depart from the city. ⁴⁰ And when they* came out of the prison, they went to Lydia and when they* saw them,* they encouraged the brothers and departed.

⁸ for you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live like children of light

⁹ But you are a chosen race,* a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's possession, so that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light,

⁸ Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his loyal love, and his wonderful deeds for the children of humankind,

¹⁷ I will offer to you a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and proclaim the name of Yahweh. ¹⁸ I will pay my vows made to Yahweh in the presence of all his people, ¹⁹ in the courts of the house* of Yahweh, in the midst of you, O Jerusalem. Praise Yah!*

³ But Samson lay until the middle of the night; he got up in the middle of the night and took hold of the doors of the city gate and the two door posts, tore them loose with the bar, put them on his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of the hill that is _⌊in front of_⌋* Hebron.

¹ Thus says Yahweh to his anointed one, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have grasped to subjugate nations before him, and I uncover* the loins of kings to open doors before him, and the gates shall not be shut: ² "I myself will go before you, and I will level the _⌊mountains_⌋.* I will break the doors of bronze and cut throughthe bars of iron.

¹³ The one who breaks out before them goes up; they break through and pass the gate, going out through it. Their king passes before them, Yahweh at their head.

³³ While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was consumed, Yahweh was angry with the people, and Yahweh struck a very great plague among the people. ³⁴ And he called the name of that place Kibroth Hattaavah* because they buried the people that _⌊were greedy_⌋.*

¹⁰ And the cloud departed from on the tent, and behold, Miriam was infected with _⌊a skin disease_⌋* white like snow; when Aaron turned toward Miriam, behold, she was afflicted with a skin disease. ¹¹ So Aaron said to Moses, "Please, my lord, please do not put on us this sin in which we were foolish and in which we have sinned. ¹² Please do not let her be like the dead, whose flesh is half consumed when coming out from the womb of its mother." ¹³ And Moses cried to Yahweh, saying, "God, _⌊please heal her_⌋!"*

⁵ The people spoke against God and against Moses, "Why have you brought us from Egypt to die in the desert? There is no food and no water, and our hearts detest this miserable food." ⁶ And Yahweh sent among the people poisonous snakes; they bit the people, and many people from Israel died. ⁷ The people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned because we have spoken against Yahweh and against you. Pray to Yahweh and let him remove the snakes* from among us." So Moses prayed for the people. ⁸ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Make for yourself a snake and place it on a pole. When* anyone is bitten and looks at it, that person will live." ⁹ So Moses made a snake of bronze, and he placed it on the pole; whenever* a snake bit someone, and that person looked at the snake of bronze, he lived.

The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt. They do abominable deeds. There is none who does good.

¹ A psalm of David. To bring to remembrance.*
O Yahweh, do not rebuke me in your anger or chastise me in your wrath. ² For your arrows have sunk into me, and your hand has pressed down on me. ³ There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation. There is no health in my bones because of my sin. ⁴ For my iniquities have passed over my head; like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. ⁵ My wounds start to stink; they rot because of my foolishness. ⁶ I am bowed down; I am bent over greatly. All the day I go about mourning. ⁷ For my loins are full of burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh. ⁸ I am faint and crushed greatly; I groan because of the roaring of my heart.

⁶ The brutish man does not know, and the fool cannot understand this.

²² "_⌊How long_⌋,* O simple ones, will you love simplicity? And how long will scoffers delight in their scoffing, and fools hate knowledge?

⁷ And I saw among the simple, I observed among the youth, a young man lacking _⌊sense_⌋,*

²² He goes after her suddenly; like an ox to the slaughter he goes, and like a stag to the instruction of a fool,

¹⁷ I was angry because of his sin of gain, and I struck him; I hid and I was angry, but* he walked apostate, in the ways* of his heart. ¹⁸ I have seen his ways, but* I will heal him; and I will lead him and give him and his mourners comfort as a recompense,

⁶ Look! It is written before me: I will not be silent, but I will repay; and I will repay in* the fold of their garment ⁷ your iniquities and the iniquities of your ancestors* together, says Yahweh, because they made smoke offerings on the mountains and they taunted me on the hills, I will measure their punishment from the beginning into the fold of their garment."

¹⁹ Your wickedness will chastise you, and your apostasies will reprove you. Therefore know and see that it is evil and bitter, your forsaking of Yahweh, your God, and fear of me is not in you," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord, Yahweh of hosts.

³⁹ Why should any living person complain about his sin?

¹⁹ "And he is reproved with pain on his bed, even* with the strife of his bones continually, ²⁰ _⌊so that_⌋* his life loathes bread, and his inner self* loathes _⌊appetizing food_⌋.* ²¹ His flesh is wasted away from sight, and his bones, which are invisible, are bared. ²² And _⌊he_⌋* draws near to the pit and his life to the killers.

¹⁷ Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of deep shadow?

¹³ Be gracious to me, O Yahweh. See my suffering from those who hate me, you who lift me up from the gates of death,

³ For my soul is full with troubles, and my life approaches Sheol.

¹⁰ I was the one who said, "I must go in the quiet of my days; I am summoned through the gates of Sheol for the rest of my years."

⁸ To you, O Yahweh, I called, and to the Lord I pleaded for grace saying, ⁹ "What gain is there in my _⌊death_⌋,* in my going down into the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness? ¹⁰ "O Yahweh, hear and be gracious to me. O Yahweh, be my helper." ¹¹ You have turned my wailing into my dancing. You have removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy ¹² so that _⌊I_⌋* may sing praises to you and not be quiet. O Yahweh, my God, I will give thanks to you forever.

⁴ I sought Yahweh and he answered me, and from all my terrors he delivered me. ⁵ They looked to him and were radiant, and their faces shall not be ashamed.* ⁶ This poor man called and Yahweh heard, and saved him from all his troubles.

³⁴ When he killed some of them, then they sought him, and repented and earnestly sought God. ³⁵ And they remembered that God was their rock, and God Most High their redeemer.

⁴ Then I called on the name of Yahweh: "O Yahweh, please save my life!" ⁵ Gracious is Yahweh and righteous, and our God is merciful. ⁶ Yahweh watches over the simple. I was brought low, but he gave me victory. ⁷ Return, O my soul, to your repose, for Yahweh has dealt bountifully with you. ⁸ For you have rescued me* from death, my eyes* from tears, my feet from stumbling.

³ 'Call to me, and I will answer you, and I will tell you great things and inaccessible things that you have not known.'

⁴ Isaiah had not gone out from the middle of the city when the word of Yahweh came to him, saying, ⁵ "Return; you must say to Hezekiah, the leader of my people, 'Thus says Yahweh the God of David your ancestor,* "I have heard your prayer and I have seen your tears. Look, I am about to heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the temple of Yahweh.

²³ "If there is a messenger beside him, a mediator, one of a thousand,* to declare to a human being his uprightness ²⁴ _⌊so that_⌋* he is gracious to him, and he says, 'Deliver him from descending into the pit; I have found a ransom.' ²⁵ His flesh is renewed with his youth; he returns to the days of his youthful strength. ²⁶ He prays to God, then he accepts him, and he sees his face with a shout of joy, and he repays to the human being his righteousness.

²⁸ He redeemed my life from going down into the pit, so* _⌊I will enjoy the light_⌋.'* ²⁹ Look, God does all these things twice, three times* with a person ³⁰ to bring his life back from the pit _⌊so that he may enjoy the light of life_⌋.*

² O Yahweh, my God, I cried for help to you, and you healed me. ³ O Yahweh, you have brought my life up from Sheol. You preserved me alive from among those going down * to the pit.

¹⁵ Surely God will ransom my life from the _⌊power_⌋* of Sheol, because he will receive me. Selah

¹³ because you have delivered my soul from death. Have you not kept my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

³ who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, ⁴ who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with loyal love and mercies,

³ He is the one who heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds.

¹⁵ He sends out his command* to the earth; his word runs swiftly.

¹⁸ He sends out his word and melts them; he blows his breath, the water flows. ¹⁹ He declares his word to Jacob, his statutes and his ordinances to Israel.

⁸ And the centurion answered and* said, "Lord, I am not worthy that you should come in under my roof. But only say the word and my slave will be healed.

²⁵ But Hezekiah did not reciprocate according to the benefit placed upon him, because his heart became proud. So wrath was upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem.

⁵ Come and _⌊consider_⌋* the works of God; he is awesome in his dealings* with the children of humankind.

¹⁸ Was no one found to turn back and* give praise to God except this foreigner?"

¹² If he presents it for thanksgiving, in addition to the thanksgiving sacrifice he shall present ring-shaped unleavened bread mixed with oil and unleavened bread wafers smeared with oil and well-mixed ring-shaped bread cakes of finely milled flour mixed with oil.

¹¹ Sing praises to Yahweh who sits enthroned* in Zion. Tell his deeds among the peoples,

¹⁴ Offer to God a thank offering and pay your vows to the Most High.

²⁸ But as for me, the approach to God is for my good. I have set the Lord Yahweh as my refuge, in order to tell all your works.

¹ Give thanks to Yahweh; proclaim his name; make known his deeds among the peoples. ² Sing to him; sing praises concerning him; tell of all his wonderful works.

¹² What shall I give back to Yahweh for all his benefits to me?

¹⁷ I will offer to you a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and proclaim the name of Yahweh.

¹⁷ I will not die but live, and tell of the works of Yah.*

⁴ And you will say on that day,
"Give thanks to Yahweh; call on his name. Make his deeds known among the peoples; bring to remembrance that his name is exalted.

¹⁵ Therefore through him let us offer up a sacrifice of praise _⌊continually_⌋* to God, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name.

⁵ And you yourselves, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

⁷ With an east wind you shatter* the ships of Tarshish.*

¹⁰ Sing a new song to Yahweh; praise him from the end of the earth, you* who go down to the sea and that which fills it, the coastlands and their inhabitants.

²⁶ " 'Into many waters the rowers brought you; but _⌊the east wind_⌋* wrecked you in the heart of the seas.

⁹ And because* considerable time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous because even the Fast* was already over, Paul strongly recommended, ¹⁰ saying to them, "Men, I perceive that the voyage is going _⌊to end_⌋* with disaster and great loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives!" ¹¹ But the centurion was convinced even more by the shipmaster and the shipowner than by what was said by Paul. ¹² And because* the harbor was unsuitable for spending the winter in, the majority decided on a plan to put out to sea from there, if somehow they could arrive at Phoenix, a harbor of Crete facing toward the southwest and toward the northwest, to spend the winter there.* ¹³ And when* a southwest wind began to blow gently, because they* thought they could accomplish their purpose, they weighed anchor and* sailed close along Crete. ¹⁴ But not long afterward a wind like a hurricane, called the northeaster,* rushed down from it.* ¹⁵ And when* the ship was caught and was not able to head into the wind, we gave way and* were driven along. ¹⁶ And running under the lee of a certain small island called Cauda, we were able with difficulty to get the ship's boat under control. ¹⁷ After* hoisting _⌊it up_⌋,* they made use of supports to undergird the ship. And because they* were afraid lest they run aground on the Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor and* thus were driven along. ¹⁸ And because* we were violently battered by the storm, on the next day _⌊they began_⌋* jettisoning the cargo,* ¹⁹ and on the third day they threw overboard the gear of the ship with their own hands. ²⁰ But when* neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and with not a little bad weather confronting us,* finally all hope was abandoned that we would be saved. ²¹ And because* many were experiencing lack of appetite, at that time Paul stood up in their midst and* said, "Men, you ought to have followed my advice not to put out to sea from Crete, and thus avoided this damage and loss! ²² And now I urge you to cheer up, for there will be no loss of life from among you, but only of the ship. ²³ For this night an angel of the God whose I am and whom I serve came to me, ²⁴ saying, 'Do not be afraid, Paul! It is necessary for you to stand before Caesar, and behold, God has graciously granted you all who are sailing with you.' ²⁵ Therefore keep up your courage, men, for I believe God that it will be like this—according to _⌊the_⌋* way it was told to me. ²⁶ But it is necessary that we run aground on some island." ²⁷ And when the fourteenth night had come, as* we were being driven in the Adriatic Sea about the middle of the night, the sailors suspected _⌊they were approaching some land_⌋.* ²⁸ And taking soundings, they found twenty fathoms. So going on a little further and taking soundings again, they found fifteen fathoms.

¹⁷ because in one hour such great wealth has been laid waste!"
And every shipmaster and _⌊every seafarer_⌋* and sailors and all those who labor on the sea stood _⌊far off_⌋*

⁸ "Or who shut the sea in with doors at its bursting, when it went out of the womb, ⁹ at my making the clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, ¹⁰ and I prescribed my rule for it, and I set bars and doors, ¹¹ and I said, 'You shall come up to here, but* you shall not go further, and here it will set a boundary _⌊for your proud surging waves_⌋'?*

⁵ to whom belongs the sea that he made, * and the dry land that his hands formed.

²⁴ How many are your works, O Yahweh; all of them you have done in wisdom. The earth is full of your creatures. ²⁵ This is the great and _⌊wide_⌋* sea, in which are moving animals without number, living things small and great. ²⁶ There the ships sail. Leviathan is there that you formed to play with.* ²⁷ They all wait for you to give them their food _⌊at the proper time_⌋.*

³ The rivers have lifted up, O Yahweh; the rivers have lifted up their _⌊rumbling_⌋;* the rivers have lifted up their pounding.

³¹ He spoke, and there came flies and gnats throughout all their territory.*

³⁴ He spoke and there came locusts and young locusts without number.

⁷ He causes clouds to rise from the edge of the earth; he makes lightnings for the rain; he brings out the wind from his storehouses.

⁸ fire and hail, snow and cloud,* stormy wind doing his bidding,*

⁴ And Yahweh hurled a great wind upon the sea, and it was a great storm on the sea, and the merchant ship _⌊was in danger of breaking up_⌋.*

²⁴ And behold, a great storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being inundated by the waves, but he himself was asleep.

¹⁸ And the sea began to be stirred up* because* a strong wind was blowing.

¹⁰ And he is also a _⌊valiant warrior_⌋,* whose heart is like the heart of the lion. He* will _⌊certainly melt_⌋* with fear, for all Israel knows that your father is a mighty warrior and those who are with him are _⌊valiant warriors_⌋.*

¹⁴ I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax; it is melted _⌊within me_⌋.*

²⁸ My soul weeps* because of grief; strengthen me according to your word.

⁷ Therefore all hands will grow slack, and every human heart will melt,

¹⁰ Emptiness and plundering and devastation! Their hearts faint and their knees tremble,* _⌊All their loins shake_⌋* and all their faces _⌊turn_⌋* pale.

²⁵ They grope in the dark _⌊without_⌋* light, and he makes them stagger like a* drunkard.

²⁰ Should he be told that I want to speak? Or did a man say that he would be communicated with?

³ And the spirit of _⌊the Egyptians_⌋* will be disturbed in his midst, and I will _⌊confuse_⌋* his plans,* and they will consult the idols and the spirits of the dead, and the ghosts and the spiritists.

¹⁴ Yahweh has mixed a spirit of confusion into her midst, and they have caused Egypt to stagger in all of its doings, as _⌊when a drunkard staggers_⌋* in his vomit.

²⁰ The earth staggers to and fro like the drunkard, and it sways like a hut, and its transgression is heavy upon it, and it falls and does not rise again.

⁹ Be astonished and be amazed! Blind yourselves and be blinded! They are drunk but* not from wine; they stagger but* not from strong drink.

And meanwhile Jonah went down into the hold of the vessel and lay down and fell asleep. ⁶ And the captain* of the ship approached him and said to him, "Why are you _⌊sound asleep_⌋?* Get up! Call on your god! Perhaps your god* will take notice of us and we won't perish!"

¹⁴ So they cried out to Yahweh, and they said, "O Yahweh! Please do not let us perish because of this man's life, and _⌊do not make us guilty of innocent blood_⌋,* because you, O Yahweh, did what you wanted."

²⁵ And they came and* woke him, saying, "Lord, save us!* We are perishing!"

²³ For this night an angel of the God whose I am and whom I serve came to me, ²⁴ saying, 'Do not be afraid, Paul! It is necessary for you to stand before Caesar, and behold, God has graciously granted you all who are sailing with you.' ²⁵ Therefore keep up your courage, men, for I believe God that it will be like this—according to _⌊the_⌋* way it was told to me.

⁷ who stills the roar of the seas, the roar of their waves, and the commotion of the peoples,

⁹ You are ruling the surging of the sea. When its waves rise, _⌊you yourself still_⌋* them.

¹⁵ And they picked Jonah up and hurled him into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging.

²⁶ And he said to them, "Why are you fearful, you of little faith?" Then he got up and* rebuked the winds and the sea and there was a great calm.

³⁹ And he woke up and* rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Be quiet! Be silent!" And the wind abated and there was a great calm. ⁴⁰ And he said to them, "Why are you fearful? Do you not yet have faith?" ⁴¹ And _⌊they were terribly frightened_⌋* and began to say* to one another, "Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?"

²³ and as* they were sailing, he fell asleep. And a storm of wind came down on the lake, and they were being swamped and were in danger. ²⁴ And they came and* woke him up, saying, "Master, master! We are perishing!" So he got up and* rebuked the wind and the billowing waves of water and they ceased, and it became calm. ²⁵ And he said to them, "Where is your faith?" But they were afraid and* were astonished, saying to one another, "Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and the water and they obey him?"

²¹ So they were wanting to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat came to the land to which they were going.

¹⁷ O God, you have taught me from my youth, and up to now I have proclaimed your wonderful deeds.

¹⁸ Blessed be Yahweh God, the God of Israel, who alone does wonderful things. ¹⁹ And blessed be his glorious name forever, and may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen.

¹¹ I will remember the deeds of Yah.* Surely I will remember your wonders* from long ago.

¹⁴ You are the God who works wonders;* you have made known your might among the peoples.

² Bless Yahweh, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits:

⁸ But she did not know that it was I who gave her grain, new wine, and oil, and who gave her silver in abundance, and gold which they made into a Baal.

¹⁶ So the men feared Yahweh _⌊greatly_⌋,* and they offered a sacrifice to Yahweh and _⌊made_⌋* vows.

⁹ But I, with a voice of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you; I will fulfill what I have vowed. Deliverance* belongs to Yahweh!"

⁴ For I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and from the house of slavery I redeemed you. And I sent Moses, Aaron, and Miriam before you. ⁵ O my people, remember what Balak the king of Moab devised, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him, and what happened from Shittim to Gilgal, so that you might know the righteous acts of Yahweh."

²⁰ For from the creation of the world, his invisible attributes, both his eternal power and deity, are discerned clearly, being understood in the things created, so that they are without excuse. ²¹ For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their reasoning, and their senseless hearts were darkened.

² for people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, arrogant, slanderers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,

³ And they were singing the song of Moses, the slave of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying:
"Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God All-Powerful; righteous and true are your ways, King of the ages!*

² Yah* is my strength and song, and he has become my salvation;* this is my God, and I will praise him—the God of my father—and I will exalt him.

⁴⁶ Yahweh lives, and blessed be my rock, and may the God of my salvation be exalted—

²² I will tell your name to my brothers; inside the assembly I will praise you.

²⁵ From you is my praise. In the great assembly, I will pay my vows before those who revere him.

¹⁸ I will give thanks to you in the great assembly; among the mighty people I will praise you.

⁹ I have brought good tidings of righteousness in the great congregation. Look, I have not shut my lips. O Yahweh, _⌊you surely know that_⌋.* ¹⁰ Your righteousness I have not hidden in the midst of my heart. I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation. I have not concealed your loyal love or your faithfulness from the great congregation.

¹⁰ Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth.

¹⁶ Come and hear, all you God-fearers, and I will tell what he has done for me.*

⁵ Exalt Yahweh our God, and worship at his footstool. He is holy.

⁹ Exalt Yahweh our God, and worship at his holy mountain, for Yahweh our God is holy.

¹ Praise Yah!* I will give thanks to Yahweh with all my heart, in the assembly of the upright and the congregation.

⁴⁶ And I will speak of your testimonies before kings, and will not be ashamed.

¹ Yahweh, you are my God; I will exalt you. I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things,* plans* _⌊of old_⌋,* in faithfulness, trustworthiness.

⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders, ⁹ if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a sick man—by what means* this man was healed— ¹⁰ let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man stands before you healthy! ¹¹ This one* is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, that has become _⌊the cornerstone_⌋.* ¹² And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among people by which we must be saved."

¹ Elijah the Tishbite from Tishbe of Gilead said to Ahab, "_⌊As Yahweh lives_⌋,* the God of Israel before whom I stand, there shall surely not be dew nor rain these years _⌊except by my command_⌋."* ² Then the word of Yahweh came to him, saying, ³ "Go from this place and turn to the east; you must hide yourself in the Wadi* Kerith _⌊which faces the Jordan_⌋.* ⁴ It shall be that you shall drink from the wadi,* and I have commanded the crows to sustain you there." ⁵ So he went and did according to the word of Yahweh. He went and stayed in the Wadi* Kerith _⌊which faces the Jordan_⌋.* ⁶ The crows were bringing bread and meat in the morning for him and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the wadi.* ⁷ It happened _⌊after a while_⌋* that the wadi* dried up, because there was no rain in the land.

⁵ Ahab said to Obadiah, "Go through the land to all the springs of water and to all the wadis.* Perhaps we may find green grass that we may keep horses and mules alive and that we might not lose any of the animals."

¹⁵ You split open spring and wadi.* You dried up ever-flowing rivers.

¹⁹ And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the splendor of the Chaldeans' pride, will be like _⌊when God overthrew_⌋* Sodom and Gomorrah. ²⁰ It will not be inhabited forever, and it will not be dwelled in _⌊forever_⌋;* and no Arab will pitch a tent there, and shepherds will not allow their flocks to lie down there. ²¹ But wild animals will lie down there, and their houses will be full of howling creatures, and the daughters of ostriches* will live there, and goats will dance there.

⁵ And the waters will be dried up from the sea, and the river will be parched and dry. ⁶ And the rivers will become foul-smelling; the branches of the Nile of Egypt will become little and dry up; reed and rush will wither. ⁷ Bare places by the Nile will be dried up, by the edge of the Nile and all the sown land of the Nile; it will be driven about, and _⌊it will be no more_⌋.* ⁸ And the fishers will mourn, and all of those who cast fishhooks* in the Nile will lament, and those who spread out fishing nets* on the _⌊surface_⌋* of the water will languish. ⁹ And the workers of combed flax will be ashamed, and those who weave white linen. ¹⁰ And her weavers will be crushed; all the _⌊hired workers_⌋* will be grieved of heart.

⁹ And its streams shall be changed to pitch and its soil to sulfur, and its land shall become like burning pitch. ¹⁰ Night and day it shall not be quenched; its smoke shall go up forever. From generation to generation it shall be in ruins; forever and ever there will be no one who passes through her.

¹⁵ I will cause mountains and hills to dry up, and I will cause all their herbage to wither; and I will make rivers like islands, and I will cause pools to dry up.

²⁷ who says to the deep, 'Dry up! And I will cause your rivers to dry up';

² Why was there no man when I came, no one who answered when I called? _⌊Do I lack the strength to save_⌋?* Or is there no power in me to deliver? Look! by my rebuke I dry up the sea; I _⌊make_⌋* the rivers a desert; their fish stink because there is no water, and they* die because of thirst.

³ And their nobles send their servants for water. They come to the pits, they find no water. They return with their vessels _⌊empty_⌋.* They are ashamed, and they are confounded, and they cover their heads.*

¹² and I will make the Nile streams dry land, and I will sell the land into the hand of bad people, and I will lay waste the land and its fullness by the hand of strangers.
I, Yahweh, I have spoken."

²⁰ Also, the beasts of the field long for you, because the courses of water are dried up, and fire has devoured the pastures of the desert.

⁷ "And I also withheld the rain from you when there were still three months to the harvest. And I would send rain on one city and send no rain on another city. One tract of land will be rained on, and the tract of land _⌊on which it does not rain_⌋* will dry up. ⁸ So two or three cities wandered to one city to drink water and they were not satisfied, yet you did not return to me," is the declaration of Yahweh.

⁴ He rebukes the sea and he dries up the rivers; he makes all the rivers run dry. Bashan and Carmel wither;* the blossom of Lebanon languishes.

⁹ "Therefore, as I live"—a declaration of Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel— "Moab shall be as Sodom, and the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* like Gomorrah, a place of weeds and salt pits and a desolation forever. The remnant of my people shall plunder them, and the remainder of my nation shall possess them."

¹³ And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and he will destroy Assyria and will make Nineveh a desolation, a dry wasteland like the desert.

¹⁰ And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw the whole plain of the Jordan, that all of it was well-watered land—this was before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah—like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt _⌊in the direction of_⌋* Zoar.

¹³ Now the men of Sodom _⌊were extremely wicked sinners against Yahweh_⌋.*

³ All these joined forces at the valley of Siddim (that is, the sea of the salt).

²⁴ Yahweh rained down from heaven upon Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Yahweh. ²⁵ And he overthrew those cities and the whole plain, and the inhabitants of the cities and the vegetation of the ground.

²³ 'All its land is brimstone and salt left by fire, _⌊none of its land will be sown_⌋,* and it will not make plants sprout out and it will not grow any vegetation; it is as the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Adman and Zeboiim, which Yahweh overturned in his anger and in his wrath.' ²⁴ And all the nations will say, '_⌊Why_⌋* has Yahweh done _⌊such a thing_⌋* to this land? What caused the fierceness of this great anger?' ²⁵ And they will say,* 'It is because they abandoned the covenant of Yahweh, the God of their ancestors,* which he _⌊made_⌋* with them _⌊when he brought them out_⌋* from the land of Egypt. ²⁶ And they went and served other gods and bowed down to them, gods whom they did not know them and he* had not allotted to them. ²⁷ So _⌊the anger of Yahweh was kindled_⌋* against that land to bring upon it all the curses written in this scroll, ²⁸ and Yahweh uprooted them from their land in anger and in wrath and in great fury, and he cast them into another land, _⌊just as it is today_⌋.'*

¹³ over the soil of my people. It goes up in thorns* and briers,* indeed over all of the houses of joy in the jubilant city. ¹⁴ For the palace will be forsaken, the _⌊crowded city_⌋* deserted; the hill and the watchtower will become* a cave forever, the joy of wild asses, a pasture _⌊for_⌋* flocks. ¹⁵ Until a spirit is poured out on us from on high,
and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is reckoned as the forest.

¹¹ But its marshes and its swamps will not be cured, for they were given for salt.

¹⁶ From there they went to Beer, which is the water well where Yahweh spoke to Moses, "Gather the people, that I may give them water." ¹⁷ Then Israel sang this song, "Arise, well water! Sing to it! ¹⁸ Well water that the princes dug, that the leaders of the people dug, with a staff and with their rods." And from the desert they continued to Mattanah,

¹⁶ He said, "Thus says Yahweh, 'Make this wadi _⌊full of cisterns_⌋,'* ¹⁷ for thus says Yahweh, 'You will see neither wind nor rain, yet this wadi will be full of water; and you and all of your livestock and your animals shall drink.' ¹⁸ And since this is too trivial in the eyes of Yahweh, he will also give Moab into your hand, ¹⁹ and you shall defeat every fortified city, every choice city, and you shall fell every good tree. All of the springs of water you shall stop up, and every tract of good land you shall ruin with the stones." ²⁰ It happened in the morning about the time of the morning offering, that water was suddenly coming from the direction of Edom and the land was filled with water.

⁸ who turned the rock into a pool of water, flinty stone into a spring of water.

⁶ Then the lame shall leap like the deer, and the tongue of the dumb shall sing for joy, for waters shall break forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert. ⁷ And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water. Her resting place is in a settlement of jackals; the grass shall become like reeds* and rushes.*

¹⁷ The poor and the needy are seeking water and there is none; their tongue is dried up with thirst. I, Yahweh, will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them. ¹⁸ I will open rivers on the barren heights and fountains in the midst of the valleys. I will make the wilderness like a pool of water and the land of dryness like springs of water. ¹⁹ I will _⌊put_⌋* the cedar, acacia, myrtle, and olive oil tree in the wilderness; I will set the cypress, elm, and box tree together in the desert

³ For I will pour out water on a thirsty land and streams on dry ground. I will pour my spirit out on your descendants* and my blessing on your offspring. ⁴ And they shall sprout _⌊among_⌋* the grass like willows by a watercourse of water. ⁵ This one will say, 'I belong to Yahweh!' And that one will be called by the name of Jacob, and another will write on his hand 'Yahweh's' and _⌊take the name_⌋* of Israel."

⁶ And he asked me, "Son of man,* did you see this?" And he made me go, and he brought me back along the bank of the stream. ⁷ _⌊When I returned_⌋,* then look! On the bank of the river were many trees _⌊on both sides_⌋.* ⁸ And he said to me, "These waters are going out to the eastern region, and they go down to the _⌊Jordan Valley_⌋,* and they come to the sea* and flow into the sea where _⌊they issue out_⌋,* and the waters in the sea will be healed.* ⁹ And then every living creature with which it teems,* _⌊to every place the waters come_⌋* it will live; and very many fish will live because these waters came there, and so the water will be healed* and everything will be alive _⌊everywhere that_⌋* _⌊the stream will come_⌋.* ¹⁰ And then fishers* from En Gedi and on up to En Eglaim will stand beside it, a sea-girt drying yard for nets; their fish for the dragnets will be _⌊of every kind_⌋,* like the fish of the great sea,* and very many. ¹¹ But its marshes and its swamps will not be cured, for they were given for salt. ¹² And along the stream will go up on its banks _⌊from both sides_⌋* every tree _⌊producing food_⌋;* its leaf will not wither and it will not cease producing its fruit. _⌊Every month_⌋* it will bear early fruit, for its waters are going out from the sanctuary, and its fruit will be as food, and its leaf for healing."

⁷ and led them by a straight way to get to a city to inhabit.

²⁶ And he made from one man every nation of humanity to live on all the face of the earth, determining their fixed times and the fixed boundaries of their habitation,

¹² And Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in that same year a hundredfold, and Yahweh blessed him.

⁹ You care for* the land* and water it; you greatly enrich it. The stream of God is filled with waters. You provide their grain, for so you have established it. ¹⁰ You drench its furrows, penetrating its ridges. With rains you soften it; its growth you bless. ¹¹ You crown the year with your _⌊bounty_⌋,* and your wagon paths drip with _⌊richness_⌋.* ¹² They drop on the pastures of the wilderness, and the hills gird themselves with joy. ¹³ The pasturelands put on flocks, and the valleys clothe themselves with grain. They shout in triumph; they even sing.

³⁰ And this shall be the sign for you: the eating of volunteer plants* this* year, and in the second year self-seeded plants,* and in the third year sow, reap, plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.

²¹ And they shall build houses and inhabit them, and they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

⁵ 'Build houses and live in them,* and plant gardens and eat their fruit.

⁵ You will again plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria. The planters will plant, and they will enjoy it.*

²⁶ And they will live on it in safety, and they will build houses, and they will plant vineyards, and they will live in safety when I execute my judgments on all _⌊those who despise them from all around them_⌋,* and then they will know that I am Yahweh their God."

¹⁰ The field is destroyed; the earth mourns because the grain is destroyed, the new wine dries up, the olive oil languishes. ¹¹ Be ashamed, farmers; Wail, vinedressers, over the wheat and over the barley, because the harvest of the field is ruined. ¹² The vine withers and the fig tree droops. The pomegranate tree, and also the palm tree, the apple tree —all the trees of the field—are dried up. Indeed, joy is dried up among the sons of men.

¹³ "Look, days are coming," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "when the one who plows will overtake the one who reaps, the one who treads grapes will catch up with the one who sows the seed. And the mountains will drip sweet wine and all of the hills will flow with it. ¹⁴ And I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel, and they will rebuild the desolated cities and will inhabit them. And they will plant vineyards and will drink their wine, and they will make gardens and will eat their fruit. ¹⁵ And I will plant them on their land and they will not be uprooted again from their land that I have given to them," says Yahweh your God.

⁵ And so then, thus says Yahweh of hosts: '_⌊Consider your ways_⌋!* ⁶ You have sown much but have harvested little. You have eaten without being satisfied; _⌊you have drunk without being satiated_⌋;* you have worn clothes without being warm; the one who earns wages puts it in _⌊a pouch with holes_⌋.'*

¹⁰ Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld the dew and the earth has withheld its produce. ¹¹ I have called for a drought on the land and the hills,* on the grain, the new wine, the olive oil, on what the soil produces, on human beings and wild animals,* and on _⌊all their labor_⌋.'"*

¹⁶ _⌊from that time when_⌋* one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten, and when one came to the wine vat to draw out fifty measures,* there were only twenty. ¹⁷ I struck you with blight, and with plant mildew, and hail, all the work of your hands. But _⌊you did not come back to me_⌋,'* _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. ¹⁸ '_⌊Please consider_⌋* from this day forward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day that the foundation of Yahweh's temple was laid,* _⌊consider_⌋:* ¹⁹ Is there still seed in the store chamber? Do the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree still produce nothing? From this day forward I will bless you.'"

¹² 'For there will be a sowing of peace; the vine will give its fruit, and the soil will give its produce, and the heavens will give their dew. And I will cause the remnant of this people to inherit all these things.

¹⁷ And yet he did not leave himself without witness by* doing good, giving you rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying you* with food and your hearts with gladness."

⁷ So then, neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who is causing it to grow.

¹⁰ Now the one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your seed, and will cause the harvest of your righteousness to grow,

²⁸ And God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it, and rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of heaven,* and over every animal that moves upon the earth."

¹ And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.

² And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great. And you will be a blessing.

¹⁶ And I will bless her; moreover, I give to you from her a son. And I will bless her, and _⌊she shall give rise to nations_⌋.* Kings of peoples shall come* from her."

²⁰ And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I will bless him and I will make him fruitful, and I will multiply him _⌊exceedingly_⌋.* He shall father twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.

⁴³ And the man became _⌊exceedingly_⌋* rich and had large flocks, female slaves, male slaves, camels, and donkeys.

⁹ God has taken away your father's livestock and given them to me.

⁷ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* were fruitful and multiplied and were many and were very, very numerous, and the land was filled with them.

³ look, the hand of Yahweh is about to be present with a very _⌊severe_⌋* plague on your livestock that are in the field, on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the cattle, and on the sheep and goats. ⁴ But Yahweh will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt, and not a thing will die from all that belongs to the _⌊Israelites_⌋.'"* ⁵ And Yahweh set an appointed time, saying, "Tomorrow Yahweh will do this thing in the land." ⁶ And Yahweh did this thing the next day; all the livestock of Egypt died, but from the livestock of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* not one died. ⁷ And Pharaoh sent to check, and _⌊it turned out_⌋* not even one from the livestock of Israel had died, but Pharaoh's heart was _⌊insensitive_⌋,* and he did not release the people.

³⁸ And also a _⌊mixed multitude_⌋* went up with them and sheep and goats and cattle, very numerous livestock.

¹⁴ You shall be blessed more than all of the peoples; among you there shall not be sterility and bareness, even* among domestic animals.*

⁴ "Blessed will be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your livestock, _⌊the calf of your cattle and the lambs of your flock_⌋.*

¹¹ And _⌊Yahweh will make you successful and prosperous_⌋,* in the fruit of your womb and on the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors* to give to you.

⁹ And Yahweh your God will make you prosperous _⌊in all your undertakings_⌋,* and in the fruit of your livestock and in the fruit of your ground _⌊abundantly_⌋,* for Yahweh _⌊will again rejoice_⌋* over you, just as he rejoiced over your ancestors.*

¹ A song of ascents.*
Blessed is everyone who fears Yahweh, who walks in his ways. ² You will indeed eat of the labor of your hands; you will be happy and it will be well with you. ³ Your wife will be like a fruitful vine _⌊within_⌋* your house. Your children* will be like olive shoots about your table. ⁴ Look, for thus shall a man be blessed _⌊who fears Yahweh_⌋.* ⁵ May Yahweh bless you from Zion, that you may see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life, ⁶ and that you may see your children's children. May peace be upon Israel.

¹³ that our granaries may be full, providing produce of all kinds,* that our sheep may produce by the thousands, by the tens of thousands in our open fields, ¹⁴ that our cattle may be pregnant; that there be no breach in our walls, and no going out in exile, and no outcry in our plazas.

²² The blessing of Yahweh makes one rich, and he does not increase sorrow with it.

¹⁹ And thanksgiving and the sound of merrymakers will come out from them, and I will make them numerous, and they will not be few. And I will make them honored, and they will not be lowly.

²⁶ And I will make with them a covenant of peace; _⌊an everlasting covenant_⌋* it will be with them. And I will establish them, and I will cause them to increase, and I will put my sanctuary in the midst of them _⌊forever_⌋.*

¹¹ And I will provide for you there, because there are still five years of famine—lest you and your household and all that you have become destitute.'

¹³ And the Egyptians ruthlessly compelled the _⌊Israelites_⌋* to work. ¹⁴ And they made their lives bitter with hard work with mortar and with bricks and with all sorts of work in the field—with all their work in which they ruthlessly enslaved them.

³ And whenever Israel sowed seed, the Midianites,* Amalekites,* and the people of the east would come up against them. ⁴ They would camp against them and destroy the produce of the land _⌊as far as_⌋* Gaza; they left no produce in Israel, or sheep, ox, or donkey. ⁵ For they, their livestock, and their tents would come up like a great number of locusts; they and their camels could not be counted; they came into the land and devoured it. ⁶ Israel was very poor because of the presence of the Midianites,* and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* cried out to Yahweh.

²⁰ And she said to them, "You should not call me Naomi; call me Mara, for Shaddai* has _⌊caused me to be very bitter_⌋.* ²¹ I went away full, but Yahweh brought me back empty-handed! Why call me Naomi _⌊when Yahweh has testified against me_⌋* and Shaddai* has brought calamity upon me?"

⁵ Those who were full must hire themselves out for bread, but those who are hungry will become fat. As for the infertile, she will bear seven, but she who has many sons withers away. ⁶ Yahweh kills and restores alive, he brings down to Sheol* and raises up. ⁷ Yahweh makes poor and makes rich; he brings low and also exalts.

⁸ It happened one day that Elisha passed through to Shunem where there was a wealthy woman, and she urged him to eat bread; so it happened each time he passed through, he would stop there to eat.

³ It happened at the end of seven years that the woman returned from the land of the Philistines and went out to appeal to the king for her household and for her _⌊properties_⌋.*

³² In those days, Yahweh began to reduce Israel, so Hazael defeated them in every territory of Israel,

⁷ For there was no army left over for Jehoahaz except for fifty horsemen, ten chariots, and ten thousand infantry, for the king of Aram had destroyed them and made them as the dust at threshing.

²² Hazael king of Aram oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.

²⁶ For Yahweh saw that the misery of Israel was very bitter, whether bond or free, but there was no helper for Israel.

⁵ And in those times there was no peace for the one going out and the one coming in, for great tumults were upon all the inhabitants of the lands. ⁶ Nation was crushed by nation, and city was against city, for God threw them into confusion by all sorts of trouble.

¹⁰ Have you* not put a fence around him and his household and around _⌊all that belongs to him_⌋* _⌊on every side_⌋?* You have blessed the work of his hands, and his livestock* has increased in the land. ¹¹ But,* on the other hand, stretch out* your hand and touch _⌊all that belongs to him_⌋* and see _⌊whether_⌋* he will _⌊curse_⌋* you to your face." ¹² So* Yahweh said to Satan,* "Look, _⌊all that belongs to him_⌋* is in your _⌊power_⌋.* Only do not stretch out your hand _⌊against_⌋* him." So* Satan* went out from Yahweh's _⌊presence_⌋.* ¹³ And then there was one day when* his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their firstborn brother's house. ¹⁴ And a messenger came to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing, and the female donkeys were feeding _⌊beside them_⌋.* ¹⁵ Then* the Sabeans _⌊attacked_⌋,* and they took them, and they slew the servants _⌊by the edge of the sword_⌋.* But* I escaped, even I alone, to tell you." ¹⁶ While this one was still speaking, _⌊another_⌋* came and said, "The fire of God fell from the heavens, and it blazed up against the sheep and goats and against the servants, and it consumed them. But I escaped, even I alone, to tell you." ¹⁷ While this one was still speaking, _⌊another_⌋* came and said, "The Chaldeans formed three divisions, and they made a raid on the camels, and they carried them away, and they struck your servants _⌊by the edge of the sword_⌋,* but I escaped, even I alone, to tell you."

⁶ But as for me, I had said in my prosperity, "I shall not be moved ever." ⁷ O Yahweh, by your favor you caused my strong mountain to stand. You hid your face. I was bewildered.

³³ For thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel,
"The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time it is trodden down, _⌊just a little while_⌋* and the time of the harvest will come for her." ³⁴ Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me and sucked me dry; he has made me an empty vessel; he has swallowed me like the sea monster; he has filled his belly with my delicacies; he has rinsed me.

³ And the Nile will swarm with frogs, and they will go up and come into your house and into your _⌊bedroom_⌋* and onto your bed and into the house of your servants and among your people and into your ovens and into your kneading troughs.

¹⁷ And he did so, and Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff, and he struck the dust of the land, and it became gnats on the humans and on the animals; all of the dust of the land became gnats in all the land of Egypt.

²⁴ And Yahweh did so, and a _⌊severe_⌋* swarm of flies came to the house of Pharaoh and the house of his servants and in all the land of Egypt; the land was ruined because of the flies.

²⁴ And when they brought these kings to Joshua, Joshua called all the men of Israel and said to the commanders of _⌊the fighting men_⌋* who had gone with him, "Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings." So they came near and put their feet on their necks. ²⁵ And Joshua said to them, "Do not be afraid or dismayed! Be strong and bold, for thus Yahweh will do to all your enemies whom you are about to fight. ²⁶ And after this Joshua struck them down and killed them, and he hanged them on five trees. And they were hanging on the trees until the evening.

⁶ And Adoni-bezek fled, but they pursued after him; they caught him and cut off _⌊his thumbs and big toes_⌋.* ⁷ Adoni-bezek said, "Seventy kings with _⌊their thumbs and big toes_⌋* cut off used to pick up scraps under my table; just as I have done, so God has repaid to me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

²¹ But Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, took in her hand a tent peg and a hammer, and she went softly* to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it went through into the ground; he was fast asleep since he was exhausted, and he died.

⁹ After they moved it, the hand of Yahweh was against the city, causing a very great confusion, and he struck the men of the city _⌊from the youngest to the oldest_⌋,* causing tumors* to break out on them.

⁴ And they said, "What is the guilt offering that we should return to him?" They said, "The number of the rulers of the Philistines is five. Therefore send five gold tumors* and five gold mice, because one plague was on all of you and all your rulers.

¹⁹ You shall say to him, 'Thus says Yahweh: "Have you committed murder and also taken possession?" ' You shall also say to him, 'Thus says Yahweh: "In the place where the dogs licked the blood of Naboth, the dogs will also lick your blood." '"

³⁵ When they went to bury her, they could not find her, except the skull, the feet, and the palms of the hands. ³⁶ They returned and told him, and he said, "This is the word of Yahweh which he spoke by the hand of his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 'On the plot of ground of Jezreel, the dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel.'" ³⁷ So the dead body of Jezebel became dung on the surface spread on the field in the plot of ground of Jezreel, so one cannot say, "This is Jezebel."

²¹ He pours contempt on noblemen, and he loosens the girdle of the mighty.

⁶⁶ And he beat back his enemies; he gave them over to perpetual scorn.

⁸ Who has planned this against Tyre, the bestower of crowns,* whose merchants were princes, her traders the honored ones of the earth? ⁹ Yahweh of hosts has planned it: to defile the pride of all glory, to humble all the honored ones of the earth.

¹⁵ Listen, and pay attention, you must not be haughty, for Yahweh has spoken. ¹⁶ Give glory to Yahweh your God _⌊before_⌋* he brings darkness, and _⌊before_⌋* your feet stumble on the mountains at twilight. And you will hope for light, but he makes it as gloom, he makes it* as thick darkness. ¹⁷ But if you will not listen to it, my inner self* will weep in secret places, because of _⌊the presence of_⌋* your pride. And my eyes* will weep bitterly, and they will melt in tears, because the flock of Yahweh has been taken captive. ¹⁸ "Say to the king and to the queen mother, '_⌊Take a lower seat_⌋,* for _⌊your beautiful crown_⌋* has come down from your head.'*

³³ _⌊Immediately_⌋* the word was fulfilled _⌊concerning_⌋* Nebuchadnezzar, and he was expelled from _⌊human society_⌋* and he ate grass like oxen, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven until his hair was like the hair of an eagle and his nails grew like a bird's claws.

⁵ _⌊Immediately_⌋* _⌊human fingers_⌋* appeared and they wrote _⌊opposite_⌋* the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the palace of the king, and the king was watching* the palm of the hand that was writing. ⁶ Then his face changed and his thoughts terrified him, and _⌊his hip joints gave way_⌋* and _⌊his knees knocked together_⌋.*

¹⁸ _⌊O king_⌋,* the Most High God gave the kingdom and the greatness and the glory and the majesty to Nebuchadnezzar your _⌊predecessor_⌋.* ¹⁹ And because of the greatness that he gave to him, all the peoples, the nations and languages trembled and feared before him; whomever he wanted he killed, and whomever he wanted he let live, and whomever he wanted he honored, and whomever he wanted he humbled. ²⁰ But _⌊when_⌋* his heart became arrogant and his spirit became hard so as to act proudly, he was deposed from the throne of his kingdom and the* glory _⌊was taken away from him_⌋.* ²¹ And he was driven away _⌊from human society_⌋* and his mind was made like the animals* and his dwelling was with the wild asses; and _⌊he was given_⌋* grass like oxen to eat, and with* the dew of heaven his body was bathed, until he acknowledged that the Most High God is sovereign over the kingdom of humankind, and _⌊whoever_⌋* he wants he sets over it. ²² "But you his _⌊successor_⌋,* Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart _⌊even though_⌋* you knew all this. ²³ And now you have exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven, and the vessels of his temple you have brought in before you, and you and your lords,* your wives and your concubines, have been drinking wine from* them, and you have praised the gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone* that do not see and do not hear and do not know, but the God _⌊who holds your life in his hand_⌋* and all of your ways _⌊come from him_⌋,* you have not honored. ²⁴ So then the palm of the hand was sent out from his presence and this writing was inscribed. ²⁵ "Now this was the writing that was inscribed: 'Mene, Mene, Tekel and Parsin.' ²⁶ "This is the explanation of the matter:* 'Mene'—God has numbered your kingdom and brought an end to it. ²⁷ " 'Tekel'—you have been weighed on scales and you have been found wanting.* ²⁸ " 'Peres'—your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and Persians.'" ²⁹ Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with purple and placed a necklace of gold around his neck, and they made a proclamation concerning him that he would be the third ruler in authority in the kingdom. ³⁰ _⌊That same night_⌋* Belshazzar, the Chaldean king, was killed.

²³ And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him down _⌊because_⌋* he did not give the glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and* died.

¹⁸ in order that you may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of military tribunes, and the flesh of the powerful, and the flesh of horses and those seated on them, and the flesh of all people, both free and slave, and small and great!"

⁵ And the Hittites* answered Abraham and said to him, ⁶ "Hear us, my lord, you are a mighty prince* in our midst. Bury your dead in the choicest of our burial sites. None of us _⌊will withhold his burial site_⌋* from you for burying your dead." ⁷ And Abraham rose up and bowed to the people of the land, to the Hittites.*

¹¹ And Israel said to Joseph, "I did not expect to see your face and behold, God has also shown me your offspring."

¹⁴ And the women said to Naomi, "Blessed be Yahweh who today _⌊did not leave you without a redeemer_⌋!* And may his name be renowned in Israel! ¹⁵ He shall be for you a restorer of life and a sustainer in your old age, for your daughter-in-law who loves you, who is better for you than seven sons, has borne him." ¹⁶ And Naomi took the child and she put him on her bosom and became his nurse. ¹⁷ And the women of the neighborhood gave him a name, saying, "A son has been born to Naomi." And they called his name Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.

⁸ He raises up the poor from the dust. From the ash heap he lifts up the needy, to cause them to sit with noble people and to cause them to inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth belong to Yahweh and he has set the inhabited world on them.

²¹ Yahweh took note of Hannah, and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters, while the young man Samuel grew up with Yahweh.

¹⁵ Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in _⌊royal clothing_⌋* of blue cloth and white linen, and a great crown of gold and a robe of fine white linen and purple, and the city of Susa was shouting and rejoicing. ¹⁶ For the Jews, there was light and gladness, joy and honor. ¹⁷ In every province and city, wherever the king's edict and his law came, there was gladness and joy for the Jews, a banquet and a _⌊holiday_⌋,* and many of the people from the country were posing as Jews because the fear of the Jews had fallen on them.

¹¹ to set the lowly on high, and those mourning are lifted to safety.

⁷ Though* your beginning was small, your end* will be very great.

¹⁵ surely then you will lift up your face without* blemish, and you will be firmly established and will not fear.* ¹⁶ For you yourself* will forget your misery; you will remember it as water that has flowed past. ¹⁷ "_⌊And your life will be brighter than noon_⌋;* its darkness will be like the morning. ¹⁸ And you will have confidence because there is hope; and you will be well protected—_⌊you will sleep in safety_⌋.* ¹⁹ And you will lie down, and _⌊no one will make you afraid_⌋;* _⌊and many will entreat your favor_⌋.*

¹¹ They send out their little ones like the flock, and their children dance around.

¹⁶ And Job lived after this one hundred and forty years, and he saw his sons and his _⌊grandsons_⌋* for four generations.

⁶ and that you may see your children's children. May peace be upon Israel.

⁶ The crown of the elderly are _⌊grandchildren_⌋,* and the glory of children is their fathers.

²⁰ Yet the children _⌊born when you were bereaved_⌋* will say in your _⌊hearing_⌋,*
"The place is too cramped for me; _⌊make room_⌋* for me so that I can dwell." ²¹ Then* you will say in your heart,
"Who has borne me these?" And, "I was bereaved and barren, exiled and thrust away; so* who raised these? Look at me! I was left alone; _⌊where have these come from_⌋?"* ²² Thus says the Lord Yahweh:
"Look! I will lift my hand up to the nations, and I will raise my signal to the peoples, and they shall bring your sons in their bosom, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.*

¹¹ Behold, we consider blessed those who have endured. You have heard about the patient endurance of Job, and you saw the outcome from the Lord, that the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

⁷ But against all the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* from a man to an animal, a dog will not even _⌊bark_⌋,* so that you will know that Yahweh makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.'

¹⁵ And* he saves from the sword of* their mouth, _⌊even_⌋* the poor from the hand of the strong. ¹⁶ So* there is hope* for the powerless, and wickedness shuts its mouth.

¹⁹ The righteous see, and they rejoice, but* the innocent one mocks at them.

⁶ And the righteous will see and fear, and will laugh at him, saying,

¹⁰ The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he will wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. ¹¹ And people* will say, "Surely there is a _⌊reward_⌋* for the righteous. Surely there is a God who judges in the land."*

¹¹ However, the king will rejoice in God. Everyone who swears an oath by him will boast, because the mouth of the liars will be stopped.

¹⁰ The wicked* sees it and is vexed. He gnashes his teeth and _⌊becomes weak_⌋.* The desire of the wicked* perishes.

¹¹ A fountain of life is a mouth of righteousness, and a mouth of wickedness conceals violence.

¹⁰ "Rejoice with Jerusalem and shout in exultation with her, all those who love her! Rejoice with her in joy, all those who mourn over her, ¹¹ so that you may suck and be satisfied from her _⌊consoling breast_⌋,* so that you may drink deeply and refresh yourselves from her _⌊heavy breast_⌋."*

¹⁴ And you shall see and your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall _⌊flourish_⌋* like the grass, and the hand of Yahweh shall make itself known _⌊to_⌋* his servants, and he shall curse his enemies.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those under the law, in order that every mouth may be closed and the whole world may become accountable to God.

⁵ Because they do not regard the works of Yahweh, nor the work of his hands, he will destroy them and not rebuild them.

²³ He who sacrifices a thank offering honors me, and he who orders his way; I will show him the salvation of God."

⁹ And then* all men* will fear, and will declare the working of God, and will understand his doing.

¹² And there will be lyre and harp, tambourine and flute, and wine at their feasts, but they do not look at the deeds* of Yahweh, and they do not see the work of his hands.

¹² Who is the wise man that can understand this? And to whom has the mouth of Yahweh spoken, so that he may declare it? Why is the land destroyed? It is laid waste like the desert* so that no one passes through."

²⁴ _⌊But only_⌋* in this must the one who boasts boast, that he has insight, and that he knows me, that I am Yahweh, showing loyal love, justice, and righteousness on the earth, for in these things I delight," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

¹² And he said to me, "You must not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and to humble yourself _⌊before_⌋* your God, your words were heard, and I myself* have come because of your words.

⁹ Who is wise that he can understand these things? Who is discerning that he knows them? The ways of Yahweh are right, and the righteous walk in them; but transgressors stumble in them.

¹⁸ in order that you may be strong enough to grasp together with all the saints what is the breadth, and length, and height, and depth, ¹⁹ and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, in order that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
