O God of my praise, do not keep silent, ² for _⌊wicked and deceitful mouths_⌋* have opened against me. They speak to me with a lying tongue. ³ They also surround me with words of hate, and fight me without cause. ⁴ In return for my love they accuse me, though I am in prayer.* ⁵ So they inflicted evil against me in return for good and hatred in return for my love. ⁶ Appoint over him a wicked man, and let an accuser stand at his right hand. ⁷ When he is judged, let him come out guilty, and let his prayer* become as sin. ⁸ Let his days be few; let another take his office. ⁹ Let his children be orphans, and his wife a widow, ¹⁰ and let his children wander aimlessly and beg, and let them plead from their ruins. ¹¹ Let the creditor seize all that is his, and let strangers plunder his property. ¹² Let there be none who extend to him loyal love, nor any who pities his orphans. ¹³ Let his descendants* be cut off. Let their name be blotted out in the next generation. ¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his ancestors* be remembered before Yahweh, and let the sin of his mother not be blotted out. ¹⁵ Let them be before Yahweh continually, that he may cut off their* memory from the earth, ¹⁶ because he did not remember to show loyal love, but he pursued anyone,* poor or needy or brokenhearted, to slay them. ¹⁷ Because he loved cursing, let it come upon him. Because he did not delight in blessing, let it be far from him. ¹⁸ Because he wore a curse as his robe, let it enter _⌊his body_⌋* like water, and into his bones like oil. ¹⁹ May it be for him like a garment in which he wraps, and a belt _⌊he continually wears_⌋.* ²⁰ Let this be the punishment for my accusers from Yahweh, even those who speak evil against my life. ²¹ But you, O Yahweh my Lord, deal with me for your name's sake. Because your loyal love is good, deliver me, ²² for I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. ²³ Like a lengthening shadow I am passing away; I am shaken off like a locust. ²⁴ My knees _⌊buckle_⌋* from fasting, and my body grows lean without fat. ²⁵ And so I am a disgrace to them; when they see me, they shake their heads.* ²⁶ Help me, O Yahweh my God; save me according to your loyal love, ²⁷ that they may know that this is your hand, that you, O Yahweh, you have done it. ²⁸ Let them curse, but you bless. When they arise, let them be put to shame, that your servant may be glad. ²⁹ Let my accusers put on disgrace, and let them cover themselves with their shame as with a robe. ³⁰ I will give thanks to Yahweh exceedingly with my mouth, and in the midst of many I will praise him, ³¹ for he stands at the right hand of the needy, to save him from those judging his life.*

² Yah* is my strength and song, and he has become my salvation;* this is my God, and I will praise him—the God of my father—and I will exalt him.

²¹ He is your praise, and he is your God, who has done with you these great and awesome things that your eyes have seen.

¹ A psalm of David.*
To you, O Yahweh, I call. O my rock, do not be deaf to me. Or else, if you are silent to me, then I will become like those descending to the pit.

²² You have seen, O Yahweh. Do not be deaf. O Lord, do not be far from me. ²³ Wake up and rouse yourself for my right, for my cause, O my God and my Lord.

O God, do not rest silently. Do not keep silent or be still, O God.

²⁸ You are my God, and I will give thanks to you. You are my God; I will exalt you.

¹⁴ I have been silent for a long time; I have kept silent; I have restrained myself like one giving birth; I will moan, pant, and gasp together.

¹⁴ Heal me, O Yahweh, and I will be healed, save me, and I will be saved, for you are my praise.

³ Then Absalom would say to him, "Look, your case is good and right, but for you there is no hearing with the king." ⁴ Then Absalom would say, "_⌊Oh, that someone would_⌋* appoint me as judge in the land, that _⌊anyone_⌋* might come to me who had a legal dispute or a case, and I would give him justice." ⁵ It happened whenever anyone drew near to do obeisance to him, that he would stretch his hand and take hold of him and kiss him. ⁶ Absalom did like this to all of Israel who came to the king for judgment; so Absalom stole the hearts* of the people of Israel. ⁷ It happened at the end of four* years that Absalom said to the king, "Please let me go and pay my vow which I have made to Yahweh in Hebron, ⁸ for your servant made a vow while I was staying in Geshur in Aram, saying, '_⌊If Yahweh will indeed let me return_⌋* to Jerusalem, then I will worship Yahweh.'"

¹ Then Ahithophel said to Absalom, "Please let me choose twelve thousand men, and I will set out and pursue after David _⌊tonight_⌋.*

¹³ For I hear the rumor of many, "Terror on every side!" When conspiring together against me, they have plotted to take my life.

¹⁸ Let lying lips be dumb, that speak against the righteous* unrestrained with arrogance and contempt.

⁴ You love all devouring words, O deceitful tongue,

³ who sharpen their tongue like a sword. They bend their bow to shoot their arrows—bitter words, ⁴ to shoot from* their* hiding places at the blameless. Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear.

² "Deliver my life, O Yahweh, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue." ³ What shall be given to you,* and what more shall be done to you, deceitful tongue?

³ They sharpen their tongue as sharp as a snake's; the venom of a viper is under their lips. Selah

¹⁷ haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

¹⁹ A lip of truth endures forever, but a tongue of deception lasts only a moment.

²⁸ A heart* of righteousness will ponder the answer, but a mouth of wickedness will pour out deceit.

³ And they bend their tongue like their bow, for falsehood and not truth is superior in the land, for they go forth* from evil to evil, and they do not know me," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

⁵ And everyone deceives his neighbor, and they do not speak the truth, they have taught their tongues* to speak lies,* they are tired from going astray.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false testimony against Jesus in order that they could put him to death. ⁶⁰ And they did not find it,* although* many false witnesses came forward. And finally two came forward ⁶¹ and* said, "This man said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it* within three days.'" ⁶² And the high priest stood up and* said to him, "Do you reply nothing? What are these people testifying against you?"

¹³ And they put forward false witnesses who said, "This man does not stop speaking words against the holy place* and the law!

⁴ So Jonathan spoke well about David to his father Saul and said to him, "The king should not sin against his servant David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his service for you has been very good. ⁵ He put his life in his hand and attacked the Philistine, and Yahweh brought about a great victory for all of Israel, and you saw it and rejoiced! Now why should you sin against innocent blood by killing David without cause?"

¹⁸ Then he said, "Why is my lord pursuing after his servant? For what have I done? And what evil is in my hand?

¹² Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, the advisor of David, from his city Giloh, while he offered the sacrifices. The conspiracy _⌊grew in strength_⌋,* and the people were going and _⌊increasing_⌋* with Absalom.

⁷ Shimei said while cursing him, "Go out, go out, you _⌊man of bloodshed_⌋,* you _⌊man of wickedness_⌋.* ⁸ Yahweh has returned on you all the blood of the household of Saul _⌊whom you have supplanted as king_⌋,* and Yahweh has given the kingship into the hand of Absalom your son. Look, you are in disaster for you are a man of blood."

¹¹ Now they surround us at our every step. They _⌊intend_⌋* _⌊to pin_⌋* me to the ground.

¹² Many bulls have encircled me; mighty bulls of Bashan have surrounded me.

⁷ For without cause they secretly hide the pit with their net for me; without cause they dug it for my life.

²⁰ For they do not speak peace, but against the quiet ones of the land they plan deceitful words.

³ For look, they lie in wait for my life.* The mighty attack* against me, not because of my transgression or my sin, O Yahweh. ⁴ Without guilt on my part they run and ready themselves. Awake to meet me and see.

⁴ More numerous than the hairs of my head are those hating me without a cause. Those who are destroying me—my enemies wrongfully*— are mighty. What I did not steal, I then must restore.

¹⁷ They surround me like water all the day; they circle about me altogether.

¹² * Ephraim has surrounded me with lies,* and the house of Israel with deceit; and Judah is still wandering with God and is faithful to the Holy One.

²⁴ If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not have sin. But now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father. ²⁵ But this happened* so that the word that is written in their law would be fulfilled, 'They hated me without a reason.'

³⁹ King David longed to go out to Absalom, for he was consoled that Amnon had died.

³¹ Now David was told, "Ahithophel was among the conspirators with Absalom." Then David said, "Please frustrate the counsel of Ahithophel, O Yahweh." ³² It happened that as David was coming up to the summit where he used to worship God, suddenly Hushai the Arkite was there to meet him. His coat was torn and dirt was on his head.

¹² They repay me evil in place of good. It is bereavement to my soul.

²⁰ And those who repay evil in return for good accuse me in return for my pursuing good.

¹⁶ As for me, I will call to God, and Yahweh will save me. ¹⁷ _⌊Morning, noon and night_⌋* I will lament and groan loudly, and he will hear my voice.

¹² Those sitting at the gate talk about me as also* the songs of the drunkards. ¹³ But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Yahweh, for a favorable time, O God, according to the abundance of your loyal love. Answer me with the faithfulness of your salvation.

¹⁰ Now _⌊when_⌋* Daniel realized that the document was signed, he went to his house (_⌊now he had windows in his upper room that were open_⌋* toward Jerusalem), and three times _⌊daily_⌋* he knelt on his knees and prayed and gave praise before his God, _⌊just as_⌋* he had been doing _⌊previously_⌋.* ¹¹ But they were filled with fury, and began discussing* with one another what they might do to Jesus. ¹² Now it happened that in these days he went away to the mountain to pray, and was spending the whole night in prayer to God.

³⁴ But Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."* And they cast lots to divide his clothes.

³² Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good deeds from the Father. For which one of them are you going to stone me?"

¹⁵ But I will spend and be expended most gladly for your lives. If I love you much more, am I to be loved less?

⁴ They went out of the city, and had not gone far when Joseph said to the one who was over his house, "Arise! Pursue after the men and overtake them. Then you shall say to them, 'Why have you repaid evil for good?

³¹ Now David was told, "Ahithophel was among the conspirators with Absalom." Then David said, "Please frustrate the counsel of Ahithophel, O Yahweh."

⁷ For without cause they secretly hide the pit with their net for me; without cause they dug it for my life. ⁸ Let _⌊unforeseen ruin_⌋* come on him, and his net that he hid, let it catch him. Let him fall into it in ruin. ⁹ Then my soul will rejoice in Yahweh; it will rejoice in his salvation. ¹⁰ All of my bones shall say, "O Yahweh, who is like you, who delivers the poor from one stronger than he and the poor and needy from the one who robs him?" ¹¹ Violent witnesses rise up; they ask me concerning what I do not know. ¹² They repay me evil in place of good. It is bereavement to my soul.

¹² For it is not an enemy that taunts me, or I could bear it. It is not one who hates me that magnifies himself over me, or I could hide myself from him. ¹³ But it is you, a man my equal, my friend and confidant. ¹⁴ We who would take sweet counsel together; in the house* of God we would walk with the throng. ¹⁵ Let death deceive them. May they descend to Sheol alive, because evil is in their home and _⌊heart_⌋.*

¹³ For he who returns evil for good, evil will not depart from his house.

⁴⁴ Now the one who was betraying him had given them a sign, saying, "The one whom I kiss—he is the one.* Arrest him and lead him* away under guard!" ⁴⁵ And when he* arrived, he came up to him immediately and* said, "Rabbi," and kissed him.

¹⁶ and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

⁴⁷ While* he was still speaking, behold, there came a crowd, and the one named Judas, one of the twelve, leading them. And he approached Jesus to kiss him. ⁴⁸ But Jesus said to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"

¹⁸ "I am not speaking about all of you. I know whom I have chosen, but in order that the scripture would be fulfilled, 'The one who eats my bread has lifted up his heel against me.'*

¹ And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing _⌊before_⌋* the angel of Yahweh; and Satan* was standing on his right to accuse him.

²⁵ _⌊Settle the case quickly with your accuser_⌋* while you are with him on the way, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.

⁴ saying, "I have sinned by* betraying innocent blood!" But they said, "What is that to us? You see to it!"*

² And as* a dinner was taking place, when* the devil had already put into the heart of Judas son of Simon Iscariot that he should betray him,

²⁷ And after the piece of bread, then Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said to him, "What you are doing, do quickly!"

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination of Yahweh, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

²⁷ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more when he brings it in divisiveness!

⁹ He who turns his ear from listening to instruction, even his prayer is an abomination.

¹⁵ And when you stretch out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers,* I will not be listening. Your hands are full of blood.

³ The one who slaughters a bull strikes a man; the one who slaughters a lamb for sacrifice breaks the neck of a dog. The one who offers an offering, the blood of swine; the one who offers frankincense blesses an idol. Indeed, they themselves have chosen their ways, and their soul delights in their abhorrence.

¹³ "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees—hypocrites!—because you shut the kingdom of heaven before people! For you do not enter, nor permit those wanting to go in* to enter.*

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those under the law, in order that every mouth may be closed and the whole world may become accountable to God.

¹⁰ For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse, for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all the things that are written in the book of the law to do them."*

²³ But you, O God, you will bring them down to the pit of corruption. The men of bloodshed and deceit will not live half their days, but I will trust you.

⁵ And throwing the silver coins into the temple he departed. And he went away and* hanged himself.

¹⁶ "Men and brothers, it was necessary that the scripture be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit proclaimed beforehand through the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus, ¹⁷ because he was counted among us and received a share in this ministry." ¹⁸ (Now this man acquired a field for the wages of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines spilled out. ¹⁹ And it became known to all who live in Jerusalem, so that that field was called in their own language* "Akeldama," that is, "Field of Blood.") ²⁰ "For it is written in the book of Psalms,
'Let his residence become deserted, and let there be no one to live in it,'*
and,
'Let another person take his position.'* ²¹ Therefore it is necessary for one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time in which the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us, ²² beginning from the baptism of John until the day on which he was taken up from us—one of these men must become a witness of his resurrection together with us." ²³ And they proposed two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was called Justus) and Matthias. ²⁴ And they prayed and* said, "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show clearly which one of these two you have chosen ²⁵ to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to depart to his own place." ²⁶ And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was added to serve* with the eleven apostles.

²⁴ And _⌊I will become angry_⌋,* and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives will be widows and your children orphans.

²¹ _⌊Therefore_⌋* give their children to the famine, and hand them over to the _⌊power_⌋* of the sword, and let their wives be bereaved and widows, and let their men be killed by death, their young men struck dead by the sword in the battle.

³ We have become orphans, fatherless, our mothers are like widows.

¹² When you till the ground _⌊it shall no longer yield its strength to you_⌋.* You shall be a wanderer and a fugitive on the earth." ¹³ And Cain said to Yahweh, "My punishment is greater than I can bear. ¹⁴ Look, you have driven me out today from the face of the ground, and from your face I must hide. I will be a wanderer and a fugitive on the earth, and it will happen that whoever finds me will kill me."

²⁹ May the blood come down on the head of Joab and all the house of his father. _⌊May the house of Joab never lack_⌋* one with a bodily discharge or one with leprosy or one who grasps the distaff or one who falls by the sword or one who is lacking food."

²⁷ The skin disease of Naaman shall cling to you and to your offspring forever." Then he went out from before him having a skin disease like the snow.

⁸ They are wet from the rainstorm of the mountains,* and they cling to the rock _⌊without_⌋* refuge. ⁹ "They* snatch the orphan from the breast, and they take a pledge against the needy.* ¹⁰ They* go about naked, without clothing, and hungry, they carry the sheaves.* ¹¹ Between their terraces they press out oil; they tread the presses, but* they are thirsty. ¹² From the city people groan, and the throat* of the wounded cries for help; yet* God does not _⌊regard it as unseemly_⌋.*

³ Through want and through barren hunger they are gnawing in the dry region in the darkness of desolation and waste. ⁴ They are picking salt herbs, the leaves of bushes, and the roots of broom trees to warm themselves. ⁵ They were driven out from fellow people; they shout at them as at a* thief, ⁶ _⌊so that they dwell_⌋* in holes of the ground and in the rocks. ⁷ They bray among the bushes; they are gathered under the nettles. ⁸ _⌊A senseless crowd_⌋,* yes, _⌊a disreputable brood_⌋,* they were cast out from the land. ⁹ "But now I am their mocking song, and I have become a byword for them.

²⁵ I was a youth, but I am now old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children _⌊begging for_⌋* bread.

¹⁵ As for them, they wander for food. If they are not satisfied, then they continue all night.*

² And this shall be:
like a bird fleeing from a thrust away nest shall be the daughters of Moab at the fords of Arnon.

²⁹ And you shall be groping at noon just as the blind person gropes in the dark, and you shall not succeed in finding your way, and you shall only be abused and robbed _⌊all the time_⌋,* and there will not be _⌊anyone who will rescue you_⌋. *

³³ A people that you do not know shall consume the harvest of your land and all your labor, and you will be only oppressed and crushed _⌊for the rest of your lives_⌋.* ³⁴ You shall become mad _⌊because of what your eyes shall see_⌋.*

⁵⁰ _⌊a grim-faced nation_⌋* _⌊who does not show respect_⌋* to the old and the young and does not show pity. ⁵¹ And it* shall consume the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your ground _⌊until you are destroyed_⌋,* and who will not leave for you any grain, wine, and olive oil, _⌊calves of your herds_⌋,* and _⌊lambs of_⌋* your flock _⌊until it has destroyed you_⌋.*

³ And whenever Israel sowed seed, the Midianites,* Amalekites,* and the people of the east would come up against them. ⁴ They would camp against them and destroy the produce of the land _⌊as far as_⌋* Gaza; they left no produce in Israel, or sheep, ox, or donkey. ⁵ For they, their livestock, and their tents would come up like a great number of locusts; they and their camels could not be counted; they came into the land and devoured it. ⁶ Israel was very poor because of the presence of the Midianites,* and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* cried out to Yahweh.

⁵ whose harvest the hungry eats, and he takes it _⌊from behind_⌋* the thorns; and the thirsty pants after their wealth.

⁹ A trap seizes him by the heel; a snare takes hold of him. ¹⁰ His rope is hidden in the ground, and his trap on the path. ¹¹ "Sudden terrors terrify him all around, and they chase him at his heels. ¹² His wealth will become hunger, and disaster is ready for his stumbling. ¹³ It consumes parts of his skin; the firstborn of death consumes his limbs. ¹⁴ He is torn from his tent _⌊in which he trusted_⌋,* and it brought him to the king of terrors. ¹⁵ "_⌊Nothing_⌋* remains for him in his tent; sulfur is scattered upon his dwelling place. ¹⁶ His roots dry up _⌊below_⌋,* and its branches* wither away above.* ¹⁷ His remembrance perishes from the earth, and there is not a name for him on the street. ¹⁸ "They thrust him from light into darkness, and they drive him out from the world. ¹⁹ There is no offspring for him nor* a descendant among his people, and there is not a survivor in his abode.

¹⁸ Returning the products of his toil, he will not swallow;* according to the profit of his trade, _⌊he will not enjoy_⌋,*

⁴ His children are far from deliverance, and they are crushed in the gate, and there is no deliverer—

⁸ O daughter of Babylon, about to be devastated, happy shall be he who pays back to you _⌊what you paid out to us_⌋.* ⁹ Happy shall be he who seizes and smashes your children against the rock.

¹⁷ Therefore the Lord did not rejoice over its young men, and he did not have compassion on its orphans and widows, for everyone was godless and an evildoer, and every mouth was speaking folly. In all of this his anger did not turn away, and still his hand is stretched out.

¹⁸ And their bows will shatter young men. And they will not show mercy on the fruit of the womb; their eyes will not look compassionately on children.

¹¹ _⌊When its branches are dry_⌋,* they are broken; women are coming and setting light to it.
For it is not a people of understanding;
therefore his maker will not have compassion on him, and his creator will not show him favor.

²⁵ And all the people answered and* said, "His blood be on us and on our children!"

³⁸ Give, and it will be given to you, a good measure—pressed down, shaken, overflowing—they will pour out into your lap. For with the measure by which you measure out, it will be measured out to you in return."

⁵⁰ so that the blood of all the prophets that has been shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation, ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the temple building.* Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation!

¹³ For judgment is merciless to the one who has not practiced mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

¹⁴ Leave me alone, and let me destroy them, and let me blot out their name from under heaven, and let me make you into a nation mightier and more numerous than they!'

¹⁹ _⌊And when_⌋* Yahweh your God gives rest to you from all your enemies from around about you in the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you as an inheritance to take possession of it, you shall blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens; you shall not forget!"

²⁰ Yahweh will not be willing to forgive him, for by then the anger of Yahweh will smoke, and his passion against that man and all the curses written in this scroll will descend on him, and Yahweh will blot out his name from under heaven.

³¹ Look, days are coming when I will cut off your _⌊strength_⌋* and the _⌊strength_⌋* of the house of your ancestor* _⌊so that no one in your house will live to old age_⌋.* ³² You will look at the distress of my dwelling place, despite all the good caused for Israel, but there will never be an old man in your household _⌊forever_⌋!* ³³ The only one I will not cut off from my altar is you.* Rather, to cause your eyes to fail and to cause your soul to grieve, _⌊all the members of your household_⌋* will die as men.*

¹³ I will make him know that I am about to judge his household forever because of the iniquity that he knew, for his sons were bringing curses on themselves,* but he did not rebuke them.

¹⁰ Know then that _⌊the word of Yahweh will not fail_⌋* which Yahweh spoke concerning the house of Ahab; Yahweh has done what he spoke by the hand of his servant Elijah. ¹¹ Then Jehu killed all of the remainder of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, all of his leaders, his close friends, and his priests, until there was no survivor left for him.

¹⁹ There is no offspring for him nor* a descendant among his people, and there is not a survivor in his abode.

¹⁰ You will destroy their _⌊offspring_⌋* from the earth, and their _⌊descendants_⌋* from among the children of humankind.

²⁸ For Yahweh loves justice and will not forsake his faithful ones. They are protected forever. But the children of the wicked will be cut off.

⁷ The memory of righteousness is like a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.

²⁰ You will not be united with them in burial because you have destroyed your land, you have killed your people.
The descendants* of evildoers will not be mentioned for eternity! ²¹ Prepare a place of slaughter for his sons because of the sin of their ancestors.* Let them not rise and take possession of the earth or fill up the face of the world with cities." ²² "And I will rise up against them,"
_⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts,
"and I will cut off name and a remnant from Babylon, and offspring and posterity,"
_⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

³⁰ Thus says Yahweh:
"Record this man as childless, a man who will not succeed in his days, for no man from his offspring will succeed him,* sitting on the throne of David and ruling again in Judah."

⁵ You will not bow down to them, and you will not serve them, because I am Yahweh your God, a jealous God, punishing the guilt of the parents on the children on the third and on the fourth generations* of those hating me,

³⁹ And because of their guilt, the ones among you who remain shall decay in the land of their enemies; and also because of the iniquities of their ancestors,* they shall decay with them.

¹ There was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year. And David _⌊inquired of Yahweh_⌋,* and Yahweh said, "The bloodguilt is on Saul and on his household, because he killed the Gibeonites."

⁸ So the king took two of the sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, namely Armoni and Mephibosheth, and five of the sons of Michal the daughter of Saul whom she had borne to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite. ⁹ He gave them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they executed them on the mountain in the presence of Yahweh, and the seven fell together. Now they were put to death in the days of the harvest, at the beginning of the harvest of barley.

²⁷ He walked in the way of the house of Ahab and did evil in the eyes of Yahweh, as the house of Ahab; for he was the son-in-law of the house of Ahab.

²⁷ When Ahaziah king of Judah saw, he fled the way of Beth-Haggen. Jehu pursued after him and said, "Shoot him also, in the chariot." They shot him at the ascent of Gur which is in Ibleam, and he fled to Megiddo, but he died there.

¹³ and Jehu met the brothers of Ahaziah king of Judah. He asked, "Who are you?" They said, "We are the brothers of Ahaziah; we came down for the peace of the king's children and the children of the queen." ¹⁴ Then he said, "Seize them alive!" So they seized them alive but then slaughtered them at the cistern of Beth-Eked, forty-two men. He did not allow any of them to survive.

¹ Now Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, so she prepared to destroy all of the offspring of the royal family.

³ He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor for doing wickedness. ⁴ And he did evil in the eyes of Yahweh as the house of Ahab had done, for they were his counselors to his destruction after the death of his father.

⁵ Do not cover their guilt, and do not let their sin be blotted out from before you. They have _⌊provoked the builders to anger_⌋.*

²⁵ I, I am the one who blots out your transgressions for my sake, and I will not remember your sins.

²³ But you, O Yahweh, you know _⌊all their plans of assassination against me_⌋.* You must not make atonement for their iniquity, and you must not cause their sin to be blotted out from _⌊before you_⌋.* But let them be overthrown _⌊before you_⌋.* Deal with them in the time of your anger.

³¹ Thus you testify against yourselves that you are descendants of those who murdered the prophets! ³² And you—fill up the measure of your fathers! ³³ Serpents! Offspring of vipers! How will you escape from the condemnation to hell? ³⁴ For this reason, behold, I am sending to you prophets and wise men and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues and will pursue from town to town, ³⁵ so that upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on the earth from the blood of righteous Abel up to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation!

³⁴ 'Is not this stored up with me, sealed in my treasuries?'*

¹⁷ His remembrance perishes from the earth, and there is not a name for him on the street.

¹⁶ The face of Yahweh is against evildoers, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

⁹ Hide your face from my sins, and all my iniquities blot out.

⁸ You have put our iniquities before you, our hidden sins into the light of your countenance.

¹³ Let his descendants* be cut off. Let their name be blotted out in the next generation.

¹⁵ And you shall leave your name to my chosen ones as a curse, and the Lord Yahweh will kill you, and he will _⌊give_⌋* his servants another name.

²² For if you wash with natron, and you _⌊use much soap_⌋,* your guilt is sticking as a stain _⌊before_⌋* me," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

² _⌊But they did not consider_⌋* that I remember all their wickedness. Now their deeds surround them; they are before my face.

⁷ Yahweh has sworn by the pride of Jacob, "Surely I will never forget any of their deeds!

²¹ Then each said to his brother, "Surely we are guilty on account of our brother when we saw the anguish of his soul when he pleaded for mercy to us and we would not listen. Therefore this trouble has come to us."

¹¹ David said to Abishai and to all his servants, "Look, my son who came out of my loins* is seeking my life. Now _⌊as far as_⌋* this Benjaminite, leave him alone and let him curse, for Yahweh has spoken to him. ¹² Perhaps Yahweh will look _⌊in my eye_⌋* and repay good for me in place of his curse this day.

¹ Then Ahithophel said to Absalom, "Please let me choose twelve thousand men, and I will set out and pursue after David _⌊tonight_⌋.* ² I will come upon him while he is weary and _⌊weak_⌋.* I will startle him, and all of the people who are with him will flee. Then I will strike down the king while he is alone.

² "_⌊How long_⌋* will you* torment me* and crush me with words? ³ These ten times you* have disgraced me; you* are not ashamed that you* have attacked* me.

²¹ "Pity me, pity me, you my friends, for God's hand has touched me. ²² Why do you* pursue me like God? And are not satisfied with my flesh?

² In arrogance the wicked persecutes* the poor. Let them be caught in the schemes that they devised,

¹⁴ But you have seen; indeed you have noted trouble and grief to take it into your hand. The helpless abandons himself upon you; you have been the helper for the orphan.

¹⁸ Yahweh is near to those who are heartbroken and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

¹⁴ The wicked have drawn the sword and have bent their bow to throw down the poor and the needy, to kill those upright in their way.

³² The wicked watches for the righteous and seeks to kill him.

²⁰ Reproach has broken my heart and I am sick. And I hoped for sympathy, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none. ²¹ They also gave me gall for food,* and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. ²² Let their table before them be a trap, and their times of peace a snare. ²³ Let their eyes be dark so they cannot see, and make their loins continually tremble. ²⁴ Pour out your indignation on them, and let your burning anger overtake them. ²⁵ Let their camp be desolate. Let none dwell in their tents, ²⁶ because they persecute those whom you, yourself, have struck, and they tell of the pain of those you have wounded. ²⁷ _⌊Add guilt on top of their guilt_⌋,* and do not let them _⌊be acquitted_⌋.* ²⁸ Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and let them not be recorded with the righteous. ²⁹ But as for me, though I am afflicted and pained, your salvation will protect* me, O God.

⁷ Blessed are the merciful, because they will be shown mercy.

³³ Should you not also have shown mercy to your fellow slave as I also showed mercy to you?' ³⁴ And because he* was angry, his master handed him over to the merciless jailers* until he would repay everything that was owed. ³⁵ So also my heavenly Father will do to you, unless each of you forgives his brother from your hearts!"

³⁴ And he said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death. Take away this cup from me! Yet not what I will, but what you will."*

⁴ You love all devouring words, O deceitful tongue, ⁵ but God will pull you down forever. He will snatch you and tear you away from your tent, and he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah

¹² By the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips, even in their pride, let them be trapped, and for the curses* and lies* they proclaim. ¹³ Destroy in anger; destroy so they are no more, so that they may know that God is ruling in Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah

¹⁴ From his ways, the perverse of heart will be satisfied, and _⌊from his own_⌋,* so shall a good man.

⁶ Therefore _⌊as I live_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, "Certainly to blood guilt I will prepare you and blood* will pursue; _⌊since_⌋* _⌊you did not hate blood_⌋,* it will pursue you.

² For by what judgment you judge, you will be judged, and by what measure you measure out, it will be measured out to you.

¹⁰ and with every unrighteous deception against those who are perishing, in place of which they did not accept the love of the truth, so that they would be saved. ¹¹ And because of this, God sends them _⌊a powerful delusion_⌋* so that they will believe the lie,

⁶ because they have poured out the blood of the saints and prophets, and you have given them blood to drink; they are deserving!"

²² and these waters that bring a curse will go into your intestines to cause your womb to swell and to make your hip fall away."* And the women will say, "Amen. Amen."

²⁷ When he has made her drink the waters, it will come about, if she has defiled herself and acted unfaithfully to her husband and the waters of bitterness that bring a curse go into her and her stomach swells and her hip falls away,* the woman will be as a curse in the midst of her people.

²⁰ Because he has not known satisfaction in his stomach, _⌊he lets nothing escape that he desires_⌋.* ²¹ _⌊There is nothing left after he has eaten_⌋;* therefore his prosperity will not endure. ²² In the fullness of his excess _⌊he will be in distress_⌋;* all of misery's power will come upon him. ²³ _⌊When his stomach fills up_⌋,* God will send _⌊his burning anger_⌋* upon him, and he will let it rain down upon him* as his food.

¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a headband.

⁶ Therefore pride is their necklace; an outfit of violence covers them.

²⁴ The Son of Man is going just as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for him if that man had not been born."

³ Then when* Judas, the one who had betrayed him, saw that he had been condemned, he regretted what he had done* and* returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and elders, ⁴ saying, "I have sinned by* betraying innocent blood!" But they said, "What is that to us? You see to it!"* ⁵ And throwing the silver coins into the temple he departed. And he went away and* hanged himself.

¹⁸ (Now this man acquired a field for the wages of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines spilled out.

²⁵ to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to depart to his own place."

⁸ But now you also lay aside all these things: anger, rage, wickedness, slander, abusive language from your mouth.

¹² Therefore, as the chosen of God, holy and dearly loved, put on affection, compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience,

⁵ In the same way, younger men, be subject to the elders, and all of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

²⁶ Let them be shamed and abashed altogether, who rejoice at my misfortune. Let them put on shame and insult, who magnify themselves against me.

¹⁸ Because he wore a curse as his robe, let it enter _⌊his body_⌋* like water, and into his bones like oil.

⁴⁴ Then the king said to Shimei, "You know all the evil which your heart knows, what you did to David my father. Now Yahweh will return the evil on your head,

⁵ Then he speaks to them in his wrath, and in his fury he terrifies them: ⁶ "But as for me, I have set my king on Zion, my holy mountain."

¹² Kiss the Son lest he be angry and you perish on the way, for his anger burns quickly. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

⁸ Your hand will find all your enemies; your right hand will find those who hate you. ⁹ You will make them like your fiery furnace at the time of your appearance. Yahweh will swallow them in his wrath and fire will consume them. ¹⁰ You will destroy their _⌊offspring_⌋* from the earth, and their _⌊descendants_⌋* from among the children of humankind. ¹¹ Though they have _⌊plotted_⌋* evil against you, though they have planned a scheme, they will not prevail. ¹² For you will _⌊turn them to flight_⌋;* you will aim arrows on your bowstrings at their faces.

¹⁴ Let them be shamed and abashed altogether who seek to take away my life.* Let them be repulsed and humiliated who desire my harm. ¹⁵ Let them be appalled because of their shame, those who say to me, "Aha! Aha!"

¹⁰ For my enemies talk concerning me, and those who watch for my life conspire together,

⁵ O Lord, at your right hand he will shatter kings in the day of his anger. ⁶ He will judge among the nations; he will fill them with corpses. He will shatter the _⌊rulers_⌋* of many countries.

¹⁹ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a man who is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' But wisdom is vindicated by her deeds."*

¹⁵ who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and who persecuted us, and who are not pleasing to God and are opposed to all people, ¹⁶ hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles in order that they may be saved, so that they always fill up their sins. But wrath has come upon them to the end.*

¹⁴ Alexander the metalworker did me much harm; may the Lord pay back to him according to his deeds,

³ He restores my life.* He leads me in _⌊correct paths_⌋* for the sake of his name.

¹¹ Also, for the sake of your name, O Yahweh, forgive my sin, because it is great.

³ For you are my rock and my fortress. So, for the sake of your name, lead me and guide me.

⁸ he humbled himself by* becoming obedient to the point of death, that is, death on a cross. ⁹ Therefore also God exalted him and graciously granted him the name above every name, ¹⁰ so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and of those on earth and of those under the earth, ¹¹ and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Incline, O Yahweh, your ear and answer me, because I am poor and needy.

¹⁵ I am afflicted and perishing from my youth. I bear your terrors. I am distraught.* ¹⁶ Your burning anger has passed over me; your sudden fears have destroyed me.

⁴ My heart is struck like grass and withers. Indeed, I forget to eat* my bread.

¹³ And Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and Yahweh drove an east wind into the land all that day and all night. The morning came, and the east wind had brought the locusts.

¹⁹ And Yahweh turned a very strong _⌊west wind_⌋* and lifted up the locusts and thrust them into the _⌊Red Sea_⌋,* and not one locust remained in all the territory of Egypt.

¹⁵ For we are strangers before you and sojourners like all our ancestors.* Our days are like the shadow upon earth, and there is no hope of abiding.

² Like a flower he comes up, and he withers away; and he flees like a* shadow, but* he does not last.

¹⁰ because of your indignation and anger, for you have picked me up and thrown me away. ¹¹ My days are like a lengthened shadow, and I wither like grass.

She shows contempt for you; she derides you, virgin daughter of Zion; she shakes her head behind you, daughter of Jerusalem.

³ For even Christ did not please himself, but just as it is written, "The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me."*

¹⁹ And the magicians said to Pharaoh, "It is the finger of God." But the heart of Pharaoh was hard, and he did not listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken.

²⁸ And Moses said, "In this you will know that Yahweh has sent me to do all these works; it is not from my heart. ²⁹ _⌊If they die a natural death_⌋* or _⌊if a natural fate is visited upon them_⌋,* Yahweh has not sent me. ³⁰ But if Yahweh creates something new, and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up and _⌊all that belongs to them_⌋,* and they go down alive to Sheol, and you will know that these men have despised Yahweh."

⁴⁶ This day Yahweh will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down _⌊and cut off your head_⌋!* Then I will give the corpses of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of heaven and to the animals of the earth, so that all the earth may know that there is a God who is for Israel. ⁴⁷ And all of this assembly will know that Yahweh does not rescue with sword or with spear, for the battle belongs to Yahweh, and he will give you into our hands!"

³⁶ It happened at the offering of the evening oblation, Elijah the prophet went near, and he said, "O Yahweh, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel; let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and that I have done all of these things by your words. ³⁷ Answer me, O Yahweh, answer me; that this people may know that you, O Yahweh, are God and that you have turned their hearts back again."

⁷ _⌊he stops all human beings from working_⌋* _⌊so that everyone whom he has made may know it_⌋.*

¹³ Rise up, O Yahweh, confront _⌊him_⌋.* Make him bow down. Rescue with your sword my life from the wicked, ¹⁴ from men by your hand, O Yahweh, from men of this world. Their share is in _⌊this life_⌋,* and you fill their stomach with your treasure. They are satisfied with children. They bequeath their excess to their children.

⁸ * And they who would cause him* to stumble, their own tongue will be against them. All who gaze on them will shake.* ⁹ And then* all men* will fear, and will declare the working of God, and will understand his doing.

² Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with rejoicing. Then they said among the nations, "Yahweh has done great things for these people."

³² This Jesus God raised up, of which* we all are witnesses. ³³ Therefore, having been exalted to the right hand of God and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, he has poured out this that you see and hear.* ³⁴ For David did not ascend into heaven, but he himself says,
'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, ³⁵ until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." '* ³⁶ Therefore let all the house of Israel know beyond a doubt, that God has made him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified!"

¹⁶ saying, "What should we do with these men? For that a remarkable sign has taken place through them is evident to all those who live in Jerusalem, and we are not able to deny it!*

¹² God said to Balaam, "You will not go with them; you will not curse the people, because they* are blessed."

²⁰ Behold, I have received a command to bless; when he has blessed, I cannot cause it to return.

²³ Because there is no sorcery against Jacob, and there is no divination against Israel. Now* it will be said to Jacob and Israel, what God has done!

¹⁷ Because he loved cursing, let it come upon him. Because he did not delight in blessing, let it be far from him.

¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh:
"Look! My servants shall eat but* you, you shall be hungry. Look! My servants shall drink but* you, you shall be thirsty. Look! My servants shall rejoice but* you, you shall be ashamed. ¹⁴ Look! My servants shall shout _⌊for joy_⌋,* but* you, you shall cry out _⌊for pain_⌋* and howl _⌊for sadness_⌋.* ¹⁵ And you shall leave your name to my chosen ones as a curse, and the Lord Yahweh will kill you, and he will _⌊give_⌋* his servants another name. ¹⁶ Whoever blesses himself in the land shall bless himself by the God of trustworthiness, and the one who swears an oath in the land shall swear by the God of trustworthiness, because the former troubles are forgotten, and they are hidden from my eyes.

²² So you also are experiencing sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy from you.

²² Those who hate you will be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked _⌊will be no more_⌋."*

¹⁰ All my enemies shall be ashamed and shall be very terrified. They shall turn back; they shall suddenly be ashamed.

¹⁷ Because he loved cursing, let it come upon him. Because he did not delight in blessing, let it be far from him. ¹⁸ Because he wore a curse as his robe, let it enter _⌊his body_⌋* like water, and into his bones like oil. ¹⁹ May it be for him like a garment in which he wraps, and a belt _⌊he continually wears_⌋.*

⁹ With respect to the head of those who surround me, may the harm of their lips cover them.

¹¹ But Yahweh is with me like a powerful warrior. _⌊Therefore_⌋* my persecutors will stumble and will not prevail. They will be very ashamed, for they will not achieve success. Their _⌊everlasting insult_⌋* will not be forgotten.

² And many from those sleeping _⌊in the dusty ground_⌋* will awake, some to _⌊everlasting life_⌋* and some to disgrace and _⌊everlasting contempt_⌋.*

¹⁰ Then my enemy will see, and shame will cover her who said to me, "Where is Yahweh your God?" My eyes will look upon her; now she will become a trampling place, like mud in the streets.

¹⁷ I will thank Yahweh according to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of Yahweh, the Most High.

I will thank Yahweh with all my heart. I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.

²² I will tell your name to my brothers; inside the assembly I will praise you. ²³ You who revere Yahweh, praise him! Glorify him, all you seed of Jacob, and be in awe of him, all you seed of Israel, ²⁴ because he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, and has not hid his face from him; but he listened to him when he cried for help. ²⁵ From you is my praise. In the great assembly, I will pay my vows before those who revere him.

¹⁸ I will give thanks to you in the great assembly; among the mighty people I will praise you.

⁴ All the kings of the earth will praise you, O Yahweh, when they have heard the words* of your mouth,

¹² saying,
"I will proclaim your name to my brothers; in the midst of the assembly I will sing in praise of you."*

²² " 'You will not afflict any widow or orphan. ²³ If you indeed afflict him, yes, if he cries out at all to me, I will certainly hear his cry of distress. ²⁴ And _⌊I will become angry_⌋,* and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives will be widows and your children orphans.

⁸ I have set Yahweh before me always. Because he is at my right hand I will not be shaken.

⁵ A father to orphans and a judge for widows is God in his holy habitation.

⁴ May he provide justice for the poor of the people, save the children of the needy, and crush the oppressor.

¹² Indeed he will deliver the needy who is crying for help, and the afflicted who has no helper. ¹³ He will take pity on the helpless and needy, and the lives of the needy he will save.

²³ But I am continually with you; you have hold of my right hand.

⁵ O Lord, at your right hand he will shatter kings in the day of his anger.

⁵ Yahweh is your protector; Yahweh is your shade at your right hand.

¹² I know* that Yahweh will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and justice for the needy.

²² Do not rob the poor because he is poor, and do not crush the afflicted at the gate; ²³ For Yahweh will plead their case and despoil those who despoil them of life.*

⁸ Do not be surprised if you see the poor being oppressed with violence or do not see justice and righteousness in the province. For one official is watched by a higher official, and there are even higher officials over them!

¹⁷ Every weapon formed against you shall not succeed, and you shall declare guilty every tongue that rises against you for judgment. This is the inheritance of the servants of Yahweh, and their _⌊legal right_⌋* from me,"
_⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

¹⁰ let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man stands before you healthy! ¹¹ This one* is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, that has become _⌊the cornerstone_⌋.* ¹² And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among people by which we must be saved."

³⁰ The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you killed by* hanging him* on a tree. ³¹ This one God has exalted to his right hand as Leader and Savior to grant repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.
