In Yahweh I have taken refuge; how can you say to my soul, "Flee to your mountain like a bird"? ² For look: The wicked _⌊string the bow_⌋.* They have fitted their arrow to the string, to shoot from the darkness at the upright of heart. ³ When the foundations are destroyed what can the righteous do?* ⁴ Yahweh is in his holy temple; Yahweh is in the heavens on his throne. His eyelids see; they test the children of humankind. ⁵ Yahweh tests the righteous, but the wicked and the lover of violence his soul hates. ⁶ He will rain coals* on the wicked. Burning sulfur and scorching wind will be the portion of their cup. ⁷ For Yahweh is righteous; he loves righteous deeds. The upright shall see his face.

¹¹ Then Saul sent messengers to David's house to guard him and to kill him in the morning, but Michal his wife told David, saying, "If _⌊you do not save your life_⌋* tonight, then tomorrow you will be killed!"

³⁸ Then Jonathan called out after the boy, "Quick, hurry, do not linger!" And Jonathan's servant collected the arrows and came to his master.

¹⁰ So David got up and fled on that day from the presence of Saul, and he came to Achish the king of Gath. ¹¹ The servants of Achish said to him, "Is not this David the king of the land? Is it not for this one that they sang in the dances, saying, 'Saul killed his thousands, but David his ten thousands?'" ¹² _⌊David took these words seriously_⌋* and _⌊felt severely threatened by_⌋* Achish the king of Gath.

³ And David went up from there to Mizpah of Moab. He said to the king of Moab, "Please let my father and my mother _⌊stay_⌋* with you until I know what God will do for me."

¹⁴ David remained in the wilderness, in the strongholds, and in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him _⌊continually_⌋,* but God did not give him into his hand.

¹ Then David _⌊thought to himself_⌋,* "Now I will perish one day by the hand of Saul! There is nothing better for me but that I must certainly escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will desist from searching for me further in all of the territories of Israel, and so I will escape from his hand."

¹¹ Then Asa cried out to Yahweh his God. And he said, "O Yahweh, there is none with you to help between the great and the powerless. Help us, O Yahweh our God, for we rely upon you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O Yahweh, you are our God! Let no man prevail against you!"

⁸ Were not the Cushites and Libyans a mighty army with very abundant chariots and horsemen? And because of your reliance on Yahweh he gave them into your hand.

O Yahweh, my God, in you I have taken refuge. Save me from all who pursue me, and deliver me.

¹⁰ And those who know your name will trust in you, for you do not forsake those who seek you, O Yahweh.

Protect me, O God, for I take refuge in you.

² O my God, I trust you; let me not be put to shame. Do not let my enemies exult over me.

¹⁴ But as for me, I trust you, O Yahweh. I say, "You are my God."

⁶ So I say, "_⌊Oh, that_⌋* I had wings like a dove. I would fly away and be at rest. ⁷ Look, I would flee far away. I would dwell in the wilderness. Selah

¹¹ God I trust; I do not fear. What can mere humankind do to me?

⁵ Save yourself like a gazelle from a hand, or like a bird from the hand of a fowler.

³ You will protect a firm inclination in peace, in peace because he trusts in you. ⁴ Trust in Yahweh forever, for in Yah, Yahweh you have an everlasting rock.

³¹ At that same hour some Pharisees came up and* said to him, "Go out and depart from here, because Herod wants to kill you!"

²¹ And Saul thought, "I will give her to him, so that she may be a snare for him and the hand of the Philistines may be against him." So Saul said to David, "For a second time you can become my son-in-law today."

⁹ When David learned that Saul was plotting evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring the ephod here."

¹⁰ My shield is with God who saves the upright of heart.

¹² If he* does not repent, he* will sharpen his sword. He has bent his bow and he has _⌊strung_⌋* it.

² In arrogance the wicked persecutes* the poor. Let them be caught in the schemes that they devised,

⁸ He sits in ambush in villages; in the hiding places he kills the innocent. His eyes _⌊lurk_⌋* for the helpless. ⁹ He lies in ambush _⌊secretly,_⌋* like a lion in a thicket. He lies in ambush to seize the poor; he seizes the poor by catching him in his net.

¹² For you will _⌊turn them to flight_⌋;* you will aim arrows on your bowstrings at their faces.

¹¹ Be glad in Yahweh and rejoice, you righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright of heart.

¹⁴ The wicked have drawn the sword and have bent their bow to throw down the poor and the needy, to kill those upright in their way.

³ who sharpen their tongue like a sword. They bend their bow to shoot their arrows—bitter words, ⁴ to shoot from* their* hiding places at the blameless. Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear. ⁵ They encourage themselves in the evil matter. They talk of secretly laying snares. They say, "Who will see them?"

¹⁰ The righteous will rejoice in Yahweh and take refuge in him, and all the upright in heart will boast.

¹⁵ For judgment will return to righteousness,* and all the upright in heart will follow after it.

¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.

⁴ Do good, O Yahweh, to the good, and to those upright in their hearts.

³ When my spirit faints within me, you know my way. On the path where I walk, they have hidden a trap for me;

³ And they bend their tongue like their bow, for falsehood and not truth is superior in the land, for they go forth* from evil to evil, and they do not know me," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

⁴ and plotted in order that they could arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.*

¹² And when it* was day, the Jews made a conspiracy and* bound themselves under a curse, saying they would* neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul. ¹³ Now there were more than forty who had made this conspiracy, ¹⁴ who went to the chief priests and the elders and* said, "We have bound ourselves under a curse to partake of nothing until we have killed Paul. ¹⁵ Therefore, now you along with the Sanhedrin explain to the military tribune that he should bring him down to you, as if you were going to determine more accurately the things concerning him. And we are ready to do away with him before he comes near."

¹³ Where are the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah?'" ¹⁴ Hezekiah took the letters from the hand of the messengers and read them. Then he went up to the temple of Yahweh, and Hezekiah spread them out before the presence of Yahweh. ¹⁵ Then Hezekiah prayed before the face of Yahweh and said, "O Yahweh, God of Israel who lives above the cherubim. You are God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the world; you have made the heavens and the earth. ¹⁶ Incline your ears and hear; open, O Yahweh, your eyes and see and hear the words of Sennacherib which he has sent to insult the living God. ¹⁷ Truly, O Yahweh, the kings of Assyria have utterly destroyed the nations and their land. ¹⁸ He has hurled their gods in the fire because they are not gods, but the work of the hands of a human made of wood and stone, so they destroyed them.

¹² Then the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Acbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the secretary, and Asaiah the servant of the king, saying, ¹³ "Go, inquire of Yahweh for me and for the people and for all of Judah concerning the words of this scroll that was found. For the wrath of Yahweh that is kindled against us is great because our ancestors* did not listen to the words of this scroll to do according to all that is written concerning us!" ¹⁴ So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Acbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah the son of Harhas, the keeper of the robes. Now she was living in Jerusalem in the second district. Then they spoke to her,

¹³ Do you not know what I have done, I and my ancestors,* to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of all the lands at all able to save their land from my hand? ¹⁴ Who among all the gods of those nations whom my ancestors* utterly destroyed was able to save his people from my hand, that your God will be able to save you from my hand? ¹⁵ So now, do not let Hezekiah deceive you. Do not let him urge you according to this. Do not put trust in him, for no god of any nation and kingdom has been able to save his people from my hand and from the hand of my ancestors.* Surely then your God will not save you from my hand!'"

¹⁰ Now I went into the house of Shemaiah son of Delaiah, son of Mehetabel, who was confined at home, and he said, "Let us meet in the house of God, inside the temple, and let us close the doors of the temple; for they are coming to kill you—during the night they are coming to kill you." ¹¹ But I said, "Should a man like me run away? And would a man like me go into the temple so that he can save his life? I will not go in!" ¹² Then I look and realized God had not sent him; rather, he had spoken the prophecy against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.

³ The earth and all its inhabitants are shaking;* I steady* its columns. Selah

⁵ They do not know or consider.* They go about in the darkness, so that all the foundations of the earth are shaken.

¹² And they shall rebuild ancient ruins from you; you shall erect the foundations of _⌊many generations,_⌋* and _⌊you shall be called_⌋* the bricklayer of the breach, the restorer of paths to live in.

¹¹ Then the priests and the prophets said to the officials and to all the people, _⌊saying_⌋,* "_⌊This man deserves the death sentence_⌋,* because he has prophesied against this city as that which you have heard with your ears." ¹² Then Jeremiah said to all the officials and to all the people, _⌊saying_⌋,* "Yahweh sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard. ¹³ Now _⌊therefore_⌋* amend your ways and your deeds, and obey the voice of Yahweh your God, and Yahweh will relent of the disaster that he has spoken over you. ¹⁴ But as for me, look, I am in your hand, do to me what is good and right in your eyes. ¹⁵ Only you must certainly know that if you put me to death, you will bring on yourselves innocent blood, and on this city and on its inhabitants, for _⌊truly_⌋* Yahweh sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears."

¹⁵ Now if you are ready so that _⌊when_⌋* you hear the sound of the horn, the flute, the lyre, the trigon, the harp and the drum and all kinds of music, you fall down and you worship the statue that I have made, that will be good. But if you do not worship it, _⌊immediately_⌋* you will be thrown into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire, and _⌊who is the god_⌋* who* will rescue you from my hands?" ¹⁶ Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego answered and said to the king, Nebuchadnezzar, "We have no need on this matter _⌊to present a defense to you_⌋.* ¹⁷ _⌊If it is so_⌋,* our God, whom we serve, is able to rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire. And from your hand, O king, let him rescue us. ¹⁸ And if not, let it be known to you, O king, that _⌊we will not serve your gods_⌋,* and the statue of gold* that you have set up we will not worship."

¹⁰ Now _⌊when_⌋* Daniel realized that the document was signed, he went to his house (_⌊now he had windows in his upper room that were open_⌋* toward Jerusalem), and three times _⌊daily_⌋* he knelt on his knees and prayed and gave praise before his God, _⌊just as_⌋* he had been doing _⌊previously_⌋.* ¹¹ Then these men came as a group and they found Daniel praying and pleading for mercy before his God. ¹² Then they approached _⌊and spoke with the king_⌋* concerning the edict of the king, "_⌊Did you not sign an edict_⌋* that any person who would seek anything from any God or human within thirty days except from you, O king, would be thrown into _⌊the lion pit_⌋?"* The king answered and said, "The matter as you have just stated is certain according to the law of the Medes and Persians which cannot be revoked." ¹³ Then _⌊they responded_⌋* and said before the king, "Daniel, who is from _⌊the exiles_⌋* of Judah,* _⌊is not paying any attention_⌋* to you, O king, or to the decree that you have signed, _⌊and three times daily_⌋* he says his prayer." ¹⁴ Then the king, when* he heard that _⌊report_⌋,* he was extremely distressed over it; and _⌊concerning Daniel_⌋* _⌊he was determined_⌋* to rescue him. And until the setting of the sun he was making every effort to deliver him. ¹⁵ Then these men came as a group to the king and _⌊said_⌋,* "Recall, O king, that with respect to the law of* the Medes and Persians that _⌊any_⌋* decree or edict that the king establishes cannot be changed." ¹⁶ Then the king gave the command, and Daniel was brought in and they threw him into _⌊the lion pit_⌋.* _⌊The king said_⌋* to Daniel, "Your God, whom you serve _⌊faithfully_⌋,* may he rescue you!" ¹⁷ And a* stone was brought and it was put on the entrance of the pit, and the king sealed it with his signet ring and with the signet rings of his lords,* so that nothing would be changed concerning Daniel. ¹⁸ Then the king went to his palace and spent the night in fasting, and no food was brought in before him and his sleep fled from him. ¹⁹ Then the king got up at daybreak, at first light, and he went _⌊in haste_⌋* to _⌊the lion pit_⌋.* ²⁰ And _⌊when he came near_⌋* to the pit, he cried out to Daniel with a distressed voice, and the king _⌊spoke_⌋* and said to Daniel, "O Daniel, servant of the living God, your God whom you serve faithfully, was he able to rescue you from the lions?" ²¹ Then Daniel spoke to* the king, "O king, live _⌊forever_⌋!* ²² My God sent his angel and he shut the mouth of the lions and they did not* hurt me, _⌊because_⌋* before him _⌊I was found_⌋* blameless, and also before you, O king, I have not done any wrong." ²³ Then the king was exceedingly glad over it* and commanded that Daniel be lifted up from the pit; and there was not any wound found on him, because he had trusted in his God. ²⁴ The king then commanded, and these men were brought _⌊who had accused Daniel_⌋,* and they threw them and their children and their wives into _⌊the lion pit_⌋,* and they had not reached the floor of the pit _⌊before_⌋* the lions had overpowered them and they had crushed all of their bones. ²⁵ Then Darius the king wrote to all the people, the nations, and the languages living in the whole earth, "May your prosperity become great! ²⁶ _⌊I make a decree_⌋* that in all the dominion of my kingdom people will be trembling and fearing before the God of Daniel, for he is the living God and endures _⌊forever_⌋* and his* kingdom is one that will not be destroyed and his _⌊dominion has no end_⌋.* ²⁷ He is rescuing, delivering, and working signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth, for he has rescued Daniel from the _⌊power_⌋* of the lions." ²⁸ So this Daniel prospered during the kingdom of Darius and during the kingdom of Cyrus the Persian.

⁸ The disciples said to him, "Rabbi, the Jews were seeking just now to stone you, and are you going there again?" ⁹ Jesus replied, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks around in the daylight, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. ¹⁰ But if anyone walks around in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.

⁵ And it happened that on the next day, their rulers and elders and scribes came together in Jerusalem, ⁶ and Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all those who were from the high priest's family. ⁷ And they made them stand in their* midst and* began to ask,* "By what power or by what name did you do this?" ⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders, ⁹ if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a sick man—by what means* this man was healed— ¹⁰ let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man stands before you healthy! ¹¹ This one* is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, that has become _⌊the cornerstone_⌋.* ¹² And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among people by which we must be saved."

²⁴ And when they* heard it,* they lifted their voices with one mind to God and said, "Master, you are the one who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all the things in them, ²⁵ the one who said by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of our father David, your servant,
'Why do the nations* rage, and the peoples conspire in vain? ²⁶ The kings of the earth stood opposed, and the rulers assembled together at the same place, against the Lord and against his Christ.'* ²⁷ For in truth both Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, assembled together in this city against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed, ²⁸ to do all that your hand and plan* had predestined to take place. ²⁹ And now, Lord, concern yourself with their threats and grant your slaves to speak your message with all boldness, ³⁰ as you extend your hand to heal and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus." ³¹ And when* they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak* the word* of God with boldness. ³² Now the group of those who believed were one heart and soul, and no one said anything of what belonged to him was his own, but all things were theirs in common. ³³ And with great power the apostles were giving testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was on them all.

¹⁹ However, the solid foundation of God stands firm, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are his,"* and "Everyone who names the name of the Lord must abstain from unrighteousness."

³⁴ And the cloud covered the tent of assembly, and the glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle. ³⁵ And Moses was unable to go into the tent of assembly because the cloud settled on it and the glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle.

⁵ for I have not lived in a house from the day that I brought out Israel unto this day. I have been from tent to tent and from tabernacle to tabernacle.

⁹ For the eyes of Yahweh roam throughout all the earth to strengthen those whose heart is fully devoted to him. You have been foolish in this, for from now on you will have wars."

⁴ He who sits enthroned in the heavens laughs. The Lord derides them.

¹¹ Sing praises to Yahweh who sits enthroned* in Zion. Tell his deeds among the peoples,

⁶ In my trouble I called on Yahweh, and to my God I cried for help. He heard my voice from his temple, and my cry for help came up before his presence into his ears.

¹³ From heaven Yahweh looks; he sees all the children of humankind.

¹⁵ The eyes of Yahweh are toward the righteous, and his ears toward their cry for help. ¹⁶ The face of Yahweh is against evildoers, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

²¹ would not God discover this, for he knows the secrets of the heart?

⁷ He rules by his might forever; his eyes keep watch on the nations. Do not let the rebellious exalt themselves.* Selah

¹⁹ Yahweh has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.

³ In every place, the eyes of Yahweh keep watch over the evil and the good.

¹ Thus says Yahweh:
"Heaven is my throne, and the earth is the footstool for my feet. Where is this house that you would build for me? And where is this resting place for me?

¹⁰ I, Yahweh, examine the _⌊mind_⌋,* I test the _⌊heart_⌋,* and give to each one according to his way, according to the fruit of his deeds.

²⁴ Or can a person hide himself in secret places and I cannot see him?" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. "Do I not fill up the heaven and the earth?" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

² Hear, all you peoples; give heed, O earth and its fullness. And let the Lord Yahweh be against you as a witness, the Lord from _⌊his holy temple_⌋.*

²⁰ But Yahweh is in his holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before him."

¹³ Be silent, _⌊all people_⌋,* before Yahweh, for he is roused from _⌊his holy dwelling_⌋."*

³⁴ But I say to you, do not swear at all, either by heaven, because it is the throne of God,

²¹ And the one who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in it.

⁴⁹ 'Heaven is my throne and earth is the footstool for my feet. What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord, or what is the place of my rest?

⁴ who opposes and who exalts himself over every so-called god or object of worship, so that he sits down in the temple of God, proclaiming that he himself is God.

¹³ And no creature is hidden in the sight of him, but all things are naked and laid bare to the eyes of him to whom _⌊we must give our account_⌋*.

² Immediately I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one was seated on the throne.

¹ And it happened that after these things, God tested Abraham. And he said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."

⁴ For you are not a God who desires* wickedness. Evil cannot dwell with you. ⁵ The boastful do not stand before* your eyes. You hate all evildoers.

⁹ Let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous, and test the hearts and innermost being, O righteous God.

³ for the wicked boasts about the desire of his _⌊heart_⌋,* and the one greedy for gain curses and treats Yahweh with contempt.

³ You have tried my heart; you have examined me by night; you have tested me; you found nothing. I have decided that my mouth will not transgress.

⁸ Your hand will find all your enemies; your right hand will find those who hate you.

² Prove me, O Yahweh, and test me. Try my _⌊innermost being_⌋* and my _⌊mind_⌋.*

O Yahweh, you have searched me, and you know me.

²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. ²⁴ And see if there is in me _⌊the worship of false gods_⌋,* and lead me in the way everlasting.

¹⁶ There are six things Yahweh hates, and seven things are abominations of his soul:* ¹⁷ haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, ¹⁸ a devising heart, plans of deception, feet that hurry to run to evil,* ¹⁹ a false witness who breathes lies and sends out discord* between brothers.

⁸ My inheritance has become to me like a lion in the forest. She has lifted up against me her voice; _⌊therefore_⌋* I hate her.

⁸ And I got rid of three shepherds in one month, for _⌊I grew impatient_⌋* with them, and _⌊they also became tired of me_⌋.*

⁹ And I will bring the remaining third into the fire, and I will refine them like one refines silver, and I will test them like one tests gold. They* will call my name, and I will answer them.* I will say, 'They* are my people,' and they* will say, 'Yahweh is my God.'"

³ He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the children of Levi, and he will refine them like gold and like silver, and they will present to Yahweh offerings* in righteousness.

¹² Blessed is the person* who endures testing, because when he* is approved he will receive the crown of life that he* has promised to those who love him.

⁷ so that the genuineness of your faith, more valuable than gold that is passing away, but is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

¹² Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, when it* takes place to test you, as if something strange were happening to you.

²⁴ Yahweh rained down from heaven upon Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Yahweh.

³⁴ And portions were served to them from _⌊his table_⌋,* and the portion of Benjamin was five times greater than the portion of any of them. And they drank and became drunk with him.

²³ And Moses stretched out his staff to the heavens, and Yahweh gave thunder* and hail, and fire went to the earth, and Yahweh caused hail to rain on the land of Egypt. ²⁴ And there was hail, and fire was flashing back and forth in the midst of the very severe hail, the like of which was not in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation.

⁴ _⌊On_⌋* the day Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters.

²³ Then Samuel said to the cook, "Bring the portion that I gave to you, about which I said to you, 'Keep it with you.'"

¹⁵ "_⌊Nothing_⌋* remains for him in his tent; sulfur is scattered upon his dwelling place.

²³ _⌊When his stomach fills up_⌋,* God will send _⌊his burning anger_⌋* upon him, and he will let it rain down upon him* as his food.

¹³ "This is the portion of the wicked human being with God, and they receive from Shaddai the inheritance of the ruthless. ¹⁴ If their children multiply, it is for the sword, and his offspring _⌊do not have enough to eat_⌋.* ¹⁵ Their* survivors are buried through* the plague, and their* widows do not weep. ¹⁶ If he heaps up silver like the dust and fashions clothing like the clay, ¹⁷ he makes it ready, and the righteous will wear it, and the innocent will divide the silver. ¹⁸ "He builds his house like the moth, and like a booth that a watchman has made. ¹⁹ He goes to bed with wealth, but* _⌊he will do so no more_⌋;* he opens his eyes, and _⌊it is gone_⌋.* ²⁰ Terrors overtake him like the water; a storm wind carries him off in the night. ²¹ The east wind lifts him up, and he is gone, and it sweeps him away from his place. ²² And it hurls at him, and it has no compassion; he will quickly flee from its power. ²³ It claps its hands over him, and it hisses at him from its place.

⁵ Yahweh is the portion which is my share and my cup. You hold my lot.

⁸ For there is a cup in the hand of Yahweh with* wine that foams, fully mixed, and he pours out from this. Surely all the wicked of the land _⌊will quaff it down to its dregs_⌋. *

³² He gave hail for their rains and the fire of lightning in their land.

¹⁷ Terror and the pit and the snare are upon you, inhabitants* of the earth! ¹⁸ And this shall happen:
The one who flees from the sound of the terror shall fall into the pit, and the one who goes up from _⌊inside the pit_⌋* shall be caught in the snare, for the windows from heaven are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble.

¹⁷ Rouse yourself! Rouse yourself! Stand up, Jerusalem, who have drunk from the hand of Yahweh the cup of his wrath; you have drunk the goblet, the cup of staggering; you have drained it out.

²² Thus says your Lord, Yahweh, and your God pleads the cause of his people: "Look! I have taken from your hand the cup of staggering. You shall not _⌊continue_⌋* to drink the goblet, the cup of my wrath, any longer.

¹¹ At that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem, "_⌊A hot wind from the barren heights_⌋* in the desert,* _⌊in the direction of_⌋* the daughter of my people, not to winnow and not to cleanse, ¹² _⌊a wind too strong for_⌋* these will come for me, now also I speak judgments against them."

¹⁵ For thus said Yahweh, the God of Israel, to me, "Take this cup of the wine of wrath from my hand, and you must give it to all the nations to whom I am sending you to drink. ¹⁶ And they will drink, and they will stagger, and they will act like madmen because of the _⌊presence_⌋* of the sword that I am sending among them." ¹⁷ So I took the cup from the hand of Yahweh and I gave it* to all the nations to whom Yahweh sent me to drink:

¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: 'And so I will let burst forth a _⌊windstorm_⌋* in my rage, and _⌊there will be a torrent of rain_⌋* in my anger, and hailstones in my rage _⌊for complete destruction_⌋.*

²² And I will execute justice with* him with a plague and with blood and _⌊torrents of rain_⌋,* and hailstones; fire and sulfur I will cause to fall on him and on his troops and on many peoples who are with him.

¹⁶ You will be sated with shame rather than glory. Drink also yourself, and expose yourself! The cup of the right hand of Yahweh will come around upon you and disgrace upon your glory.

²⁹ But on the day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and sulphur from heaven and destroyed them all.

¹¹ So Jesus said to Peter, "Put the sword into its* sheath! The cup that the Father has given me—shall I not drink it?"

⁷ He does not withdraw his eyes from the righteous, but* he sets them forever with kings on the throne, and they are exalted.

¹² For you bless the righteous. O Yahweh, like a* shield you surround him with good favor.

¹¹ God is a righteous judge, and a God who has indignation every day.

¹⁵ By contrast, I in righteousness shall see your face. Upon awakening I will be satisfied seeing your form.

⁶ For you set on him blessings forever. You make him glad with the joy of your presence.

⁵ He loves righteousness and justice. The earth is full of the loyal love of Yahweh.

¹⁸ Behold, the eye of Yahweh is on those who fear him, on those who hope* for his loyal love

¹⁵ The eyes of Yahweh are toward the righteous, and his ears toward their cry for help.

⁵ Why are you _⌊in despair_⌋,* O my soul, and disturbed within me? Hope in God, because I will again praise him, for the salvation of his presence.

⁷ You love righteousness and hate wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you from among your companions with festive oil.

⁴ And the strength of the king loves justice.* You have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.

⁸ Yahweh opens the eyes of the blind; Yahweh raises up those bowed down; Yahweh loves the righteous;

⁸ For I, Yahweh, love justice, hate robbery and* injustice, and I will _⌊faithfully_⌋* give their reward, and I will _⌊make_⌋* an everlasting covenant _⌊with_⌋* them.

¹² For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.*

² Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that whenever he is revealed we will be like him, because we will see him just as he is.

⁴ and they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
