²⁰ Humankind in its pomp, but does not understand, is like the beasts that perish.

¹¹ And Haman recounted to them the splendor of his wealth and the number of his sons and all the ways that the king had honored him and promoted him above the officials and king's servants. ¹² _⌊And Haman added_⌋,* "Esther the Queen did not let just anyone come to the banquet that she prepared with the king except me, and I am also invited tomorrow to her banquet with the king. ¹³ But all this _⌊fails to satisfy me_⌋* _⌊when_⌋* I see Mordecai the Jew setting at the gate of the king." ¹⁴ And Zeresh his wife and all of his friends said to him, "Let them make a gallows fifty cubits* high, and in the morning tell the king, "Let them hang Mordecai on it; then go with the king to the banquet happily." The advice pleased Haman, so he had the gallows made.

¹⁰ And they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai, and the anger of the king was abated.

²¹ Is not their tent cord pulled up within them? They die, but* not in* wisdom.'

¹² But man cannot continue in his pomp. He is like the beasts that perish.

¹⁸ Surely you set them on slippery places. You cause them to fall onto ruin.* ¹⁹ How they become a desolation in a moment! They come to a complete end by terrors.

¹⁸ I said to myself concerning _⌊humans_⌋,* "God sifts* them in order to show* them that they are like beasts." ¹⁹ For the fate of _⌊humans_⌋* and the fate of the beast is _⌊the same_⌋.* The death of the one is like the death of the other, for _⌊both are mortal_⌋.* Man has no advantage over the beast, for both are fleeting.
