¹⁰ Treat them as guilty, O God; let them fall because of their plans. Because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out, for they have rebelled against you.

³⁰ But Sihon king of Heshbon was not willing to let us cross through his territory because Yahweh your God hardened his spirit and _⌊made him obstinate_⌋* _⌊in order to give him_⌋* into your hand, _⌊just as he has now done_⌋.*

²⁹ Should a man arise to pursue you and to seek your life, may the life of my lord be wrapped in the pouch* of the living with Yahweh your God. But as for the life of your enemy, he will sling it from within* the pocket of the sling!

³⁹ When David heard that Nabal had died, he said, "Blessed be Yahweh who has vindicated the case of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and he has kept back his servant from evil; but Yahweh has returned the evil of Nabal on his own head." Then David sent and spoke with Abigail to take her for his wife.

³¹ Now David was told, "Ahithophel was among the conspirators with Absalom." Then David said, "Please frustrate the counsel of Ahithophel, O Yahweh."

¹⁴ Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said, "The advice of Hushai the Arkite is better than the advice of Ahithophel." (Now Yahweh had ordained to frustrate the good counsel of Ahithophel in order for Yahweh to bring misery upon Absalom).

²³ When Ahithophel saw that his advice was not followed, he saddled the donkey, and he set out and went up to his house in his city. _⌊After he set his house in order_⌋,* he hanged himself, and he died and was buried in the tomb of his ancestors.*

¹⁶ And it happened that while he was speaking to him, he said to him, "Have we appointed you as a counselor to the king? Stop—_⌊why should you be killed_⌋?"* So the prophet stopped and said, "I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my advice."

¹⁰ And they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai, and the anger of the king was abated.

¹² He is frustrating the devices of the crafty, and their hands do not achieve success. ¹³ He is capturing the wise in their craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are rushed. ¹⁴ In the daytime they meet with darkness, and they grope at noon* as in the night.

⁹ Let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous, and test the hearts and innermost being, O righteous God. ¹⁰ My shield is with God who saves the upright of heart. ¹¹ God is a righteous judge, and a God who has indignation every day. ¹² If he* does not repent, he* will sharpen his sword. He has bent his bow and he has _⌊strung_⌋* it. ¹³ And he has prepared for him weapons of death. He has made his arrows fiery shafts. ¹⁴ See, he* travails with* evil. He is pregnant with trouble, and he gives birth to deception. ¹⁵ He makes a pit and digs it out, then falls in the trap he has made.

¹⁵ The nations have fallen in the pit that they made; their foot is caught in the net that they hid. ¹⁶ Yahweh has made himself known; he has executed judgment. The wicked is snared by the work of his hands. Higgaion* Selah

¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked, and as for the evil man— seek out his wickedness until you find none.

¹³ Rise up, O Yahweh, confront _⌊him_⌋.* Make him bow down. Rescue with your sword my life from the wicked,

⁸ Your hand will find all your enemies; your right hand will find those who hate you. ⁹ You will make them like your fiery furnace at the time of your appearance. Yahweh will swallow them in his wrath and fire will consume them. ¹⁰ You will destroy their _⌊offspring_⌋* from the earth, and their _⌊descendants_⌋* from among the children of humankind.

³ Do not drag me away with the wicked or with the workers of evil, who speak of peace with their neighbors, while evil is in their heart. ⁴ Give to them according to their work, even according to the evil of their deeds. Give to them according to the work of their hands; repay them their rightful due.

¹⁸ Let lying lips be dumb, that speak against the righteous* unrestrained with arrogance and contempt.

Contend, O Yahweh, with my contenders; fight those who fight me. ² Grasp buckler and shield and rise to my aid. ³ And draw the spear and javelin to meet those who pursue me. Say to my soul, "I am your salvation." ⁴ Let those who seek my life be shamed and humiliated. Let those who plot calamity against me be repulsed and ashamed. ⁵ Let them be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of Yahweh _⌊driving them_⌋.* ⁶ Let their way be dark and slippery, with the angel of Yahweh pursuing them. ⁷ For without cause they secretly hide the pit with their net for me; without cause they dug it for my life. ⁸ Let _⌊unforeseen ruin_⌋* come on him, and his net that he hid, let it catch him. Let him fall into it in ruin.

²⁶ Let them be shamed and abashed altogether, who rejoice at my misfortune. Let them put on shame and insult, who magnify themselves against me.

¹⁵ Let death deceive them. May they descend to Sheol alive, because evil is in their home and _⌊heart_⌋.*

¹² By the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips, even in their pride, let them be trapped, and for the curses* and lies* they proclaim. ¹³ Destroy in anger; destroy so they are no more, so that they may know that God is ruling in Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah

⁶ _⌊They carefully plot_⌋* injustices saying, "We have perfected _⌊the perfect plot_⌋!"* Both the _⌊inner thought_⌋* and heart of a man are deep. ⁷ But God will shoot them; with an arrow they will suddenly be wounded. ⁸ * And they who would cause him* to stumble, their own tongue will be against them. All who gaze on them will shake.*

⁷ He rules by his might forever; his eyes keep watch on the nations. Do not let the rebellious exalt themselves.* Selah

God will arise; his enemies will be scattered, and those who hate him will flee from before him. ² As smoke is driven off, you will drive them off. As wax melts before fire, the wicked will perish before God.

²² Let their table before them be a trap, and their times of peace a snare. ²³ Let their eyes be dark so they cannot see, and make their loins continually tremble. ²⁴ Pour out your indignation on them, and let your burning anger overtake them. ²⁵ Let their camp be desolate. Let none dwell in their tents,

¹³ Let them be ashamed; let them perish who are _⌊my adversaries_⌋.* Let them wrap themselves with scorn and disgrace who seek my harm.

¹² And return to our neighbors sevenfold _⌊upon them_⌋* their taunts with which they taunted you, O Lord.

⁹ Do to them as you did with Midian, as with Sisera, as with Jabin at the wadi of Kishon. ¹⁰ They were destroyed at En-dor; they became dung for the ground. ¹¹ Make their leaders like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their chiefs like Zebah and Zalmunna, ¹² who said, "Let us take as our possession the pastures of God." ¹³ O my God, make them like the tumbleweed, like the chaff before wind. ¹⁴ As fire burns a forest, and as a flame sets afire mountains, ¹⁵ so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. ¹⁶ Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek your name, O Yahweh. ¹⁷ Let them be ashamed and terrified forever, and let them be humiliated and perish ¹⁸ that they may know that you, whose name is Yahweh, you alone, are the Most High over the whole earth.

¹¹ because they rebelled against the words of God and spurned the counsel of the Most High,

⁶ Appoint over him a wicked man, and let an accuser stand at his right hand. ⁷ When he is judged, let him come out guilty, and let his prayer* become as sin. ⁸ Let his days be few; let another take his office. ⁹ Let his children be orphans, and his wife a widow, ¹⁰ and let his children wander aimlessly and beg, and let them plead from their ruins. ¹¹ Let the creditor seize all that is his, and let strangers plunder his property. ¹² Let there be none who extend to him loyal love, nor any who pities his orphans. ¹³ Let his descendants* be cut off. Let their name be blotted out in the next generation. ¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his ancestors* be remembered before Yahweh, and let the sin of his mother not be blotted out. ¹⁵ Let them be before Yahweh continually, that he may cut off their* memory from the earth, ¹⁶ because he did not remember to show loyal love, but he pursued anyone,* poor or needy or brokenhearted, to slay them. ¹⁷ Because he loved cursing, let it come upon him. Because he did not delight in blessing, let it be far from him. ¹⁸ Because he wore a curse as his robe, let it enter _⌊his body_⌋* like water, and into his bones like oil. ¹⁹ May it be for him like a garment in which he wraps, and a belt _⌊he continually wears_⌋.* ²⁰ Let this be the punishment for my accusers from Yahweh, even those who speak evil against my life.

⁷ Remember, O Yahweh, against the sons of Edom the day of Jerusalem, the ones who said, "Lay it bare! Lay it bare to its foundation!" ⁸ O daughter of Babylon, about to be devastated, happy shall be he who pays back to you _⌊what you paid out to us_⌋.* ⁹ Happy shall be he who seizes and smashes your children against the rock.

⁹ With respect to the head of those who surround me, may the harm of their lips cover them. ¹⁰ Let burning coals fall on them; let them be dropped into the fire, into bottomless pits from which they cannot rise.

⁶ Flash forth lightning and scatter them; dispatch your arrows and rout them. ⁷ Stretch out your hands from on high; Rescue me and deliver me from many waters, from the hand of foreigners,

² Hear, heavens, and listen, earth, for Yahweh has spoken: "I reared children and I brought them up, but they rebelled against me.

²⁰ But if you refuse and you rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword.
For the mouth of Yahweh has spoken."

¹⁰ But* they _⌊were the ones who_⌋* rebelled, and they grieved _⌊his Holy Spirit_⌋,* so* he _⌊became an enemy to them_⌋;* he himself fought against them.

⁵ Her foes have become her _⌊master_⌋,* her enemies are at ease; Yahweh has made her suffer because of the greatness of her transgressions. Her children have gone away, captive before the foe.

⁵ we have sinned and we have done wrong and we acted wickedly and we rebelled and have been turning aside from your commandments and from your ordinances.

⁹ _⌊Compassion and forgiveness belong to the Lord, our God_⌋,* for we have rebelled against him,

⁷ The days of punishment have come; the days of retribution have come; Israel knows! The prophet is a fool, the man of the spirit is acting like a madman. Because of the greatness of your sin, your hostility is great.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those under the law, in order that every mouth may be closed and the whole world may become accountable to God. ²⁰ For by the works of the law _⌊no person will be declared righteous_⌋* before him, for through the law comes knowledge of sin.

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God, for it is written, "The one who catches the wise in their craftiness,"*
