Save me, O God, because waters have come up to my neck.* ² I sink in the mud of the deep, and there is no foothold. I have come to watery depths, and the torrent floods over me. ³ I am weary with my calling out; my throat is parched. My eyes are exhausted in my waiting for my God. ⁴ More numerous than the hairs of my head are those hating me without a cause. Those who are destroying me—my enemies wrongfully*— are mighty. What I did not steal, I then must restore. ⁵ O God, _⌊you yourself know_⌋* my foolishness, and my guilty deeds are not hidden from you. ⁶ Let those who wait for you not be put to shame because of me, O Lord Yahweh of hosts. Let those who seek you not be disgraced because of me, O God of Israel. ⁷ Because on account of you I have borne reproach; disgrace has covered my face. ⁸ I have become a stranger to my brothers and a foreigner to my mother's sons, ⁹ because the zeal for your house* has consumed me, and the reproaches of those reproaching you have fallen on me. ¹⁰ When I wept in the fasting of my soul, it became reproaches for me. ¹¹ When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became for them a byword. ¹² Those sitting at the gate talk about me as also* the songs of the drunkards. ¹³ But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Yahweh, for a favorable time, O God, according to the abundance of your loyal love. Answer me with the faithfulness of your salvation. ¹⁴ Deliver me from the mud and do not let me sink. Let me be delivered from those who hate me and from the watery depths. ¹⁵ Do not let the torrent of waters flood over me, or the deep swallow me, or the pit close its mouth over me. ¹⁶ Answer me, O Yahweh, because your loyal love is good; according to your abundant mercies, turn to me, ¹⁷ and do not hide your face from your servant. Because I am in trouble, answer me quickly. ¹⁸ Draw near to my soul; redeem it. Because of my enemies, ransom me. ¹⁹ You know my reproach, my shame and my disgrace. _⌊Fully known_⌋* to you are all my adversaries. ²⁰ Reproach has broken my heart and I am sick. And I hoped for sympathy, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none. ²¹ They also gave me gall for food,* and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. ²² Let their table before them be a trap, and their times of peace a snare. ²³ Let their eyes be dark so they cannot see, and make their loins continually tremble. ²⁴ Pour out your indignation on them, and let your burning anger overtake them. ²⁵ Let their camp be desolate. O God seekers, let your heart revive,* ³³ because Yahweh hears the needy and does not despise his own who are prisoners. ³⁴ Let heavens and earth praise him, the seas and all that moves in them, ³⁵ because God will save Zion and build the cities of Judah, that they may dwell there and possess it. ³⁶ And the offspring of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will abide in it.

O God, you have rejected us. You have broken us. You have been angry. Restore us!

Give ear, O shepherd of Israel, who leads Joseph like a flock. Shine forth, you who sits enthroned above the cherubim.

¹⁷ And I will make justice the measuring line, and righteousness the plumb line; and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies,* and waters will flood over the hiding place.

² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not flow over you. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not scorch* you.

⁵⁴ Water has flown over my head, I said, "I am cut off."

³ And you threw me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the sea currents surrounded me; all your breakers and your surging waves passed over me. ⁴ And I said, 'I am banished* from your sight; how* _⌊will I continue to look_⌋* _⌊on your holy temple_⌋?'* ⁵ The waters encompassed me up to my neck; the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.

¹⁵ And from his mouth the serpent spouted water like a river after the woman, in order that he could make her swept away by a river. ¹⁶ And the earth came to the aid of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the river that the dragon had spouted out of his mouth.

¹⁵ And he said to me, "The waters that you saw, where the prostitute is seated, are peoples and crowds and nations and languages.

¹⁷ And the flood came forty days and forty nights upon the earth. And the waters increased, and lifted the ark, and it rose up from the earth. ¹⁸ And the waters prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth. ⁶ You have set me in the pit below, in dark places, in the depths. ⁷ Your wrath presses upon me, and you afflict me with all your waves. Selah

⁶ So they took Jeremiah and threw him into the pit* of Malchiah, the son of the king, which was in the courtyard of the guard. And they let Jeremiah down by ropes. Now in the pit* there was no water,* _⌊but only_⌋* mud, and Jeremiah sank in the mud.

²² Now look, all the women who remain in the house of the king of Judah are being led out to the officials of the king of Babylon. And look, they are saying,
'_⌊Your trusted friends_⌋* have misled you, and they have prevailed against you. Your feet are stuck in the mud, so they turned backward.'

²⁶ " 'Into many waters the rowers brought you; but _⌊the east wind_⌋* wrecked you in the heart of the seas. ²⁷ Your wealth and your merchandise, your wares, your mariners, and your seamen, your shipwrights* and the barterers of your wares and all of _⌊your soldiers_⌋* who are in you, along* with all of your crew who are in the midst of you, they will fall in the heart of the seas on the day of your downfall. ²⁸ At the sound of the shout* of your seamen, the pasturelands will shake. ²⁹ And they will go down from their ships, all of those holding an oar, mariners, all of the seamen of the sea will stand on the land, ³⁰ and they will lament* over you with their voice, and they will cry out* bitterly, and they will throw* dust on their heads, and they will roll* in the dust. ³¹ _⌊They will shave themselves bald for your sake_⌋,* and they will dress* themselves in sackcloth, and they will weep* over you with a bitterness of soul* and with bitter wailing. ³² And they will raise* over you with their wailing a lament, and they will chant* a lament over you: 'Who is like Tyre, like this destruction in the midst of the sea?' ³³ When your merchandise went out from the seas, you satisfied many peoples with the abundance of your wealth, and by your wares you made rich the kings of the world. ³⁴ Now you are broken by seas in the depths of waters; your wares and all of your crew in the midst of you have sunk.

²⁵ And the rain came down and the rivers came and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it did not collapse, because its foundation was laid on the rock.

³⁷ And taking along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be distressed and troubled. ³⁸ Then he said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake with me."

³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to other people, and _⌊you will be looking on_⌋* _⌊longingly_⌋* for* them all day, _⌊but you will be powerless to do anything_⌋.*

²⁰ But* the eyes of the wicked will fail; and refuge will be lost to them, and their hope is _⌊to breathe their last breath_⌋."*

¹⁶ My face is red because of weeping, and deep shadows are on my eyelids,

⁶ I am weary with my groaning; _⌊I flood_⌋* my bed every night. With my tears _⌊I drench_⌋* my couch.

How long, O Yahweh? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? ² How long must I take counsel* in my soul, and sorrow in my heart all the day? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? ³ Consider* and answer me, O Yahweh my God. Give light to my eyes lest I sleep the sleep of death,

² O my God, I call by day and you do not answer, and by night but I have no rest.*

¹⁵ My strength is dry like a potsherd, and my tongue is sticking to my jaws; and you have placed me in the dust of death.

²¹ Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, because I wait for you.

⁷ And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is for you.

²¹ They also gave me gall for food,* and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

⁸² My eyes long for* your word,* saying, "When will you comfort me?"

¹²³ My eyes long for* your salvation, and your righteous word.*

¹⁴ Like a horse or a crane, so I chirp; I moan like a dove. My eyes are weak toward the height. Lord, I have oppression; lend me support!

¹¹ My eyes have _⌊spent all their tears_⌋;* _⌊my stomach_⌋* is in torment, _⌊my heart_⌋* is poured out on the earth because of the destruction of the daughter of my people, because child and babe faint in the public squares of a city.

²⁸ After this, Jesus, knowing that now at last everything was completed, in order that the scripture would be fulfilled, said, "I am thirsty."

⁷ who in the days of his flesh offered up both prayers and supplications, with loud crying and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard as a result of his reverence.

³ O Yahweh, my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, ⁴ if I have repaid _⌊my ally_⌋* with harm, or if I have plundered my enemy without cause, ⁵ let the enemy of my soul pursue, and overtake and trample my life into the ground, and lay my honor in the dust. Selah

¹¹ Violent witnesses rise up; they ask me concerning what I do not know. ¹² They repay me evil in place of good. It is bereavement to my soul.

¹⁹ Let not those who are wrongfully my enemies* rejoice over me. Nor let those who hate me without cause wink the eye.

¹⁹ And my enemies without cause* are numerous, and those who hate me wrongfully* are many. ²⁰ And those who repay evil in return for good accuse me in return for my pursuing good.

¹² For evils without number have encompassed me. My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails me.

³ For look, they lie in wait for my life.* The mighty attack* against me, not because of my transgression or my sin, O Yahweh.

³ They also surround me with words of hate, and fight me without cause. ⁴ In return for my love they accuse me, though I am in prayer.* ⁵ So they inflicted evil against me in return for good and hatred in return for my love.

⁴ However, he was the one who lifted up our sicknesses, and he carried our pain, yet* we ourselves assumed him stricken, struck down by God and afflicted. ⁵ But* he was pierced* because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; the chastisement for* our peace* was upon him, and by his wounds* _⌊we were healed_⌋.* ⁶ All of us have wandered about like sheep; we each have turned to his own way; and Yahweh let fall on him the iniquity of us all. ⁷ He was oppressed and afflicted, yet* he did not open his mouth; he was brought like a lamb to the slaughter, and like a sheep is dumb before its shearers, so* he did not open his mouth.

²⁵ But this happened* so that the word that is written in their law would be fulfilled, 'They hated me without a reason.'

²¹ He made the one who did not know sin to be sin on our behalf, in order that we could become the righteousness of God in him.

²² who did not commit sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth,*

²⁴ who himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we may die to sins and live to righteousness, by whose wounds you were healed.

¹⁸ For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, in order that he could bring you to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit,

³ You have tried my heart; you have examined me by night; you have tested me; you found nothing. I have decided that my mouth will not transgress.

¹² Who can perceive his errors? Acquit me from hidden faults.

⁵ My wounds start to stink; they rot because of my foolishness.

⁹ O Lord, all my longing is before you, and my sighing is not hidden from you.

²⁰ If we had forgotten the name of our God, or had spread out our hands in prayer to a foreign god, ²¹ would not God discover this, for he knows the secrets of the heart?

¹⁷ For my eyes are on all their ways, they are not hidden _⌊from before me_⌋,* and their iniquity is not concealed from before my eyes.

³ The God of Israel said to me, the rock of Israel has spoken; 'He who rules over mankind rules righteously, in the fear of God.

⁷ And let the assembly of peoples surround you, and over it return on high.

³ Indeed, none who wait for you should be put to shame. Those who betray without cause should be put to shame.

²⁶ Let them be shamed and abashed altogether, who rejoice at my misfortune. Let them put on shame and insult, who magnify themselves against me.

¹⁸ Blessed be Yahweh God, the God of Israel, who alone does wonderful things.

²³ And kings shall be your _⌊guardians_⌋,* and their queens your nurses. They shall bow down, _⌊faces_⌋* to the ground, to you, and they will lick up the dust of your feet. Then* you will know that I am Yahweh; those who await me shall not be ashamed.

¹⁹ And he said to them, "What things?" So they said to him, "The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, a man who was a prophet, powerful in deed and word before God and all the people, ²⁰ and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over to a sentence of death, and crucified him. ²¹ But we were hoping that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. But in addition to all these things, this is the third day _⌊since_⌋* these things took place.

⁷ And they made them stand in their* midst and* began to ask,* "By what power or by what name did you do this?"

¹⁷ The God of this people Israel chose our fathers and exalted the people during their* stay in the land of Egypt, and with uplifted arm he led them out of it.

²³ From the descendants of this man, according to his promise, God brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus.

⁶ But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by humankind and despised by people. ⁷ All who see me mock me. They open wide their lips; they shake the head, saying: ⁸ "_⌊He trusts Yahweh_⌋.* Let him rescue him. Let him deliver him because he delights in him."

¹⁵ _⌊All day long_⌋* my disgrace is before me, and the shame of my face covers me,

²² Rather, on account of you we are killed _⌊all day long_⌋;* we are accounted as sheep for slaughter.

⁶ I gave my back to those who struck me, and my cheeks to those who pulled out my _⌊beard_⌋;* I did not hide my face from insults and spittle.

³ He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering, and acquainted with* sickness, and like _⌊one from whom others hide their faces_⌋,* he was despised, and we did not hold him in high regard.

¹⁵ You who know, O Yahweh, remember me, and attend to me, and take revenge for me against my persecutors _⌊in your forbearance_⌋.* You must take me away. Know that I am carrying disgrace because of you.

⁶⁷ Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists, and they slapped him,* ⁶⁸ saying, "Prophesy for us, you Christ! Who is it who hit you?"

²⁹ and weaving a crown of thorns, they put it* on his head, and put* a reed in his right hand. And kneeling down before him, they mocked him, saying, "Hail, king of the Jews!" ³⁰ And they spat on him and* took the reed and repeatedly struck* him* on his head.

³⁸ Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left. ³⁹ And those who passed by reviled him, shaking their heads ⁴⁰ and saying, "The one who would destroy the temple and rebuild it* in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross!" ⁴¹ In the same way also the chief priests, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking him,* saying, ⁴² "He saved others; he is not able to save himself! He is the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him! ⁴³ He trusts in God; let him deliver him now if he wants to,* because he said, 'I am the Son of God'!" ⁴⁴ And in the same way even the robbers who were crucified with him were reviling him.

¹¹ And Herod with his soldiers also treated him with contempt, and after* mocking him* and* dressing him* in glistening clothing, he sent him back to Pilate.

³⁵ And the people stood there watching, but the rulers also ridiculed him,* saying, "He saved others; let him save himself, if this man is the Christ* of God, the Chosen One!" ³⁶ And the soldiers also mocked him, coming up and* offering him sour wine ³⁷ and saying, "If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself!"

²¹ But they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me. ²² If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin. But now they do not have a valid excuse for their sin. ²³ The one who hates me hates my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not have sin. But now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father.

² fixing our eyes on Jesus, the originator and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

²⁸ His oldest brother Eliab heard while he was speaking to the men, _⌊and Eliab became very angry against David_⌋* and said, "Why have you come down today, and with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumptuousness and the evil of your heart! For you have come down in order to see the battle!"

¹³ "He has removed my kinsfolk from me, and my acquaintances have only* turned aside from me. ¹⁴ My relatives have failed, and my close friends have forgotten me. ¹⁵ The sojourners in* my house and my slave women count me as a stranger; I have become a foreigner in their eyes. ¹⁶ I call to my servant, but* he does not answer; I must _⌊personally_⌋* plead with him. ¹⁷ My breath is repulsive to my wife, and I am loathsome to _⌊my own family_⌋.* ¹⁸ Little boys also despise me; when I rise, then* they talk against me. ¹⁹ All _⌊my intimate friends_⌋* abhor me, and these whom I have loved have turned against me.

¹¹ Because of all my adversaries I have become a disgrace, especially to my neighbors, and a dread to my acquaintances. Those who see me in the street flee from me.

¹¹ My friends and companions stand aloof from my affliction, and my relatives stand afar off.

⁵ Do not put faith in a friend; put no trust in a close friend. Guard the doorways of your mouth from the one who lies in your lap. ⁶ For a son treats a father with contempt; a daughter rises up against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; the enemies of a man are the men of his own house.

²¹ "And brother will hand over brother to death, and a father his children, and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death, ²² and you will be hated by everyone because of my name. But the one who endures to the end—this one will be saved.

³⁵ For I have come to turn a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. ³⁶ And the enemies of a man will be the members of his household.*

⁴⁸ Now the one who was betraying him had given them a sign, saying, "The one whom I kiss—he is the one.* Arrest him!" ⁴⁹ And he came up to Jesus immediately and* said, "Greetings, Rabbi," and kissed him. ⁵⁰ And Jesus said to him, "Friend, do that* for which you have come."* Then they came up and* laid hands on Jesus and arrested him.

⁵⁶ But all this has happened in order that the scriptures of the prophets would be fulfilled." Then the disciples all abandoned him and* fled.

⁷⁰ But he denied it* in the presence of them all, saying, "I do not know what you mean!" ⁷¹ And when he* went out to the gateway, another female slave* saw him and said to those who were there, "This man was with Jesus the Nazarene." ⁷² And again he denied it* with an oath, "I do not know the man!" ⁷³ And after a little while those who were standing there came up and* said to Peter, "You really are one of them also, because even your accent _⌊reveals who you are_⌋."* ⁷⁴ Then he began to curse and to swear with an oath, "I do not know the man!" And immediately a rooster crowed.

¹¹ He came to his own things, and his own people did not receive him.

¹⁰ Then he said, "I have been very zealous for Yahweh the God of hosts, for the _⌊Israelites_⌋* have forsaken your covenant. They have demolished your altars, and they have killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left over, and they seek to take my life.

²⁷ Now David was clothed with a robe of fine linen; so also all the Levites who were carrying the ark, the singers, and Kenaniah the chief of the singing. And David wore a linen ephod. ²⁸ And all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of Yahweh with shouting, with the sound of a shofar,* and with trumpets and cymbals, making loud music with musical instruments and stringed instruments. ²⁹ And when the ark of the covenant of Yahweh came into the city of David, then Michal the daughter of Saul looked down from the window and saw the king, David, leaping and dancing. And she despised him in her heart.

³ And moreover, with respect to my provisions for the house of my God I have a treasure of gold and silver that I have given to the house of my God above all that I have provided for the holy house:

⁴¹ All passing along the road plunder him; he has become a taunt to his neighbors.

⁵⁰ Remember, O Lord the taunting of your servants, how I bear in my bosom the taunts of all the many peoples, ⁵¹ by which your enemies taunt, O Yahweh, by which they taunt the steps of your anointed one.

¹³⁹ My zeal consumes me, because my enemies have forgotten your words.

¹⁵ And they came to Jerusalem. And he entered into the temple courts* and* began to drive out those who were selling and those who were buying in the temple courts,* and overturned the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those who were selling doves. ¹⁶ And he did not permit anyone to carry objects* through the temple courts.* ¹⁷ And he began to teach* and was saying to them, "Is it not written,
'My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations,'*
but you have made it a cave of robbers!"

¹⁴ And he found in the temple courts* those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated. ¹⁵ And he made a whip of cords and* drove them* all out of the temple courts,* both the sheep and the oxen, and he poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their* tables. ¹⁶ And to the ones selling the doves he said, "Take these things away from here! Do not make my Father's house _⌊a marketplace_⌋!"* ¹⁷ His disciples remembered that it is written, "Zeal for your house will consume me."*

³ For even Christ did not please himself, but just as it is written, "The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me."*

¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth. I weakened my soul with fasting, and my prayer _⌊returned to me unanswered_⌋.*

⁸ All the day my enemies reproach me; those who mock me swear oaths against me. ⁹ Indeed, I eat ashes like bread and mix my drink with tears*

²⁴ My knees _⌊buckle_⌋* from fasting, and my body grows lean without fat. ²⁵ And so I am a disgrace to them; when they see me, they shake their heads.*

³³ For John the Baptist has come not eating bread or drinking wine, and you say, 'He has a demon!' ³⁴ The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, 'Behold, a man who is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!'

³⁷ And you will become a horror and a proverb and ridicule among all the peoples where Yahweh drives you there.

⁷ then I will cut Israel off from the face of the land that I have given to them, even the house which I have consecrated for my name I will cast away from my face; and Israel shall become a proverb and an object of taunting among all the peoples.

⁶ "And he has made me a proverb for* the peoples, _⌊and I am one before whom people spit_⌋.*

¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth. I weakened my soul with fasting, and my prayer _⌊returned to me unanswered_⌋.* ¹⁴ I _⌊behaved_⌋* as though he were a friend or as a brother to me. As one lamenting a mother, I was bowed down in mourning.

¹³ You have made us a taunt to our neighbors, a derision and a scorn to those around us. ¹⁴ You have made us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.

² at that time, Yahweh had spoken by the hand of Isaiah son of Amoz, saying,
"Go and loosen the sackcloth from your loins, and take off your sandals* from your feet,"
and he had done so, walking naked and barefoot.

¹² And the Lord, Yahweh of hosts, called on that day
for weeping and mourning, and for baldness and girding _⌊with_⌋* sackcloth.

⁹ And I will make them as a terror, an evil to all the kingdoms of the earth, as a disgrace and a proverb, as a taunt and a curse, in all the places where I will drive them.

⁸ Lament like a virgin girded in sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

¹³ Gird yourselves and lament, O priests! Wail, O ministers of the altar! Come spend the night in sackcloth, O ministers of my God, because offering and libation are withheld from the house of your God.

¹ And the two angels came to Sodom in the evening. And Lot was sitting in the gateway of Sodom. Then Lot saw them and stood up to meet them. And he bowed down with his face to the ground.

¹⁸ "You shall appoint judges and officials for you in all your _⌊towns_⌋* that Yahweh your God is giving to you throughout your tribes, and you shall render for the people _⌊righteous judgments_⌋.*

⁸ _⌊A senseless crowd_⌋,* yes, _⌊a disreputable brood_⌋,* they were cast out from the land. ⁹ "But now I am their mocking song, and I have become a byword for them.

¹⁵ But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered together; smiters whom I did not know gathered against me. They tore and did not cease. ¹⁶ Among the ungodly of the mockers at feasts,* they gnashed at me with their teeth.

² _⌊When he tasted the wine_⌋,* Belshazzar commanded that they bring the vessels of gold and silver that Nebuchadnezzar his _⌊predecessor_⌋* had taken from the temple that was in Jerusalem, so that the king and his lords,* his wives and his concubines may drink from them. ³ Then they brought in the vessels of gold that they took from the temple, the house of God that was in Jerusalem, and the king and his lords,* his wives and his concubines drank from them. ⁴ They drank the wine and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze, iron, wood and stone.*

²³ And now you have exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven, and the vessels of his temple you have brought in before you, and you and your lords,* your wives and your concubines, have been drinking wine from* them, and you have praised the gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone* that do not see and do not hear and do not know, but the God _⌊who holds your life in his hand_⌋* and all of your ways _⌊come from him_⌋,* you have not honored.

¹² And _⌊when he was being accused_⌋* by the chief priests and elders he answered nothing. ¹³ Then Pilate said to him, "Do you not hear how many things they are testifying against you?"

²⁰ But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds that they should ask for Barabbas and put Jesus to death.

⁴¹ In the same way also the chief priests, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking him,* saying, ⁴² "He saved others; he is not able to save himself! He is the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him!

⁶² Now on the next day, which is after the day of preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees assembled before Pilate, ⁶³ saying, "Sir, we remember that while* that deceiver was still alive he said, 'After three days I will rise.'

¹⁷ And they put a purple cloak on him, and after* weaving a crown of thorns they placed it* on him. ¹⁸ And they began to greet him, "Hail, king of the Jews!" ¹⁹ And they repeatedly struck* him on the head with a reed, and were spitting on him, and _⌊they knelt down_⌋* and* did obeisance to him.

² And they began to accuse him, saying, "We have found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us* to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying he himself is Christ, a king!"

²⁶ The kings of the earth stood opposed, and the rulers assembled together at the same place, against the Lord and against his Christ.'* ²⁷ For in truth both Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, assembled together in this city against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed,

²⁷ And he said, "Blessed be Yahweh, God of my master Abraham, who has not withheld* his loyal love and his faithfulness from my master. I was on the way and Yahweh led me to the house of my master's brother."

⁸ Ask your servants* and they will tell you! Let the young men* find favor in your eyes because we have come on a feast day. Please give _⌊whatever you have on hand_⌋* for your servants and for your son David."

² When the king saw Queen Esther standing in the courtyard she found favor in his eyes, and the king held out the gold scepter that was in his hand to Esther, and Esther approached and touched the top of the scepter.

⁶ And the king said to Esther _⌊while they were drinking wine_⌋,* "What is your petition? It will be given to you. What is your request? Even half the kingdom, it will done.

² And the king again said to Esther, on the second day _⌊while they were drinking_⌋,* "What is your petition, Queen Esther? It will be given to you. What is your request? It will be given to you—even half the kingdom."

¹⁰ Your righteousness I have not hidden in the midst of my heart. I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation. I have not concealed your loyal love or your faithfulness from the great congregation. ¹¹ As for you, O Yahweh, do not withhold your mercies from me. Let your loyal love and your faithfulness continually preserve me.

Be gracious to me, O God, according to your loyal love. According to your abundant mercies, blot out my transgressions.

¹⁶ As for me, I will call to God, and Yahweh will save me. ¹⁷ _⌊Morning, noon and night_⌋* I will lament and groan loudly, and he will hear my voice.

¹⁵ He will call upon me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue and honor him.

³ He has remembered his loyal love and his faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation* of our God.

⁸ Thus says Yahweh:
"I have answered you in a time of favor, and helped you on a day of salvation, and watched over you, and given you as a covenant of the people, to raise up the land, to give the desolate hereditary property as an inheritance,

⁶ Seek Yahweh _⌊while he lets himself be found_⌋;* call him _⌊while he is_⌋* near.

²⁰ You will show faithfulness to Jacob, and loyal love to Abraham, as you have sworn to our ancestors* from the days of old.

³⁶ Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to the disciples, "Sit here while I go over there and* pray." ³⁷ And taking along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be distressed and troubled. ³⁸ Then he said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake with me." ³⁹ And going forward a little he fell down on his face, praying and saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me. Nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will."* ⁴⁰ And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, "So, were you not able to stay awake with me one hour? ⁴¹ Stay awake and pray that you will not enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak!" ⁴² Again for the second time he went away and* prayed, saying, "My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will must be done." ⁴³ And he came again and* found them sleeping, _⌊for they could not keep their eyes open_⌋.* ⁴⁴ And leaving them again, he went away and* prayed for the third time, saying the same thing again. ⁴⁵ Then he came to the disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. ⁴⁶ Get up, let us go! Behold, the one who is betraying me is approaching!"

⁷² to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant,

⁴⁴ And being in anguish, he began praying* more fervently and his sweat became like drops of blood falling down to the ground.*

¹ Jesus said these things, and lifting up his eyes to heaven he said, "Father, the hour has come! Glorify your Son, in order that your Son may glorify you— ² just as you have given him authority over all flesh, in order that he would give eternal life to them—everyone whom you have given him. ³ Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. ⁴ I have glorified you on earth by* completing the work that you have given me _⌊to do_⌋.* ⁵ And now, Father, you glorify me _⌊at your side_⌋* with the glory that I had _⌊at your side_⌋* before the world existed. ⁶ "I have revealed your name to the men whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours, and you have given them to me, and they have kept your word. ⁷ Now they understand that all the things that* you have given me are from you, ⁸ because the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they received them* and know truly that I have come from you, and they have believed that you have sent me. ⁹ I am asking on behalf of them. I am not asking on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those whom you have given me, because they are yours, ¹⁰ and all my things are yours, and your things are mine, and I have been glorified in* them. ¹¹ And I am no longer in the world, and they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given to me, so that they may be one, just as we are. ¹² When I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given to me, and guarded them,* and none of them has perished except the son of destruction, in order that the scripture would be fulfilled. ¹³ And now I am coming to you, and I am saying these things in the world so that they may have my joy completed in themselves. ¹⁴ I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world just as I am not of the world. ¹⁵ I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you protect them from the evil one. ¹⁶ They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. ¹⁷ Sanctify them in the truth—your word is truth. ¹⁸ Just as you sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. ¹⁹ And for them I sanctify myself, so that they themselves also may be sanctified in the truth. ²⁰ "And I do not ask on behalf of these only, but also on behalf of those who believe in me through their word, ²¹ that they all may be one, just as you, Father, are in me and I am in you, that they also may be in us, in order that the world may believe that you sent me. ²² And the glory that you have given to me, I have given to them, in order that they may be one, just as we are one— ²³ I in them, and you in me, in order that they may be completed in one, so that the world may know that you sent me, and you have loved them just as you have loved me. ²⁴ "Father, those whom you have given to me—I want that those also may be with me where I am, in order that they may see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. ²⁵ Righteous Father, although the world does not know you, yet I have known you, and these men have come to know that you sent me. ²⁶ And I made known to them your name, and will make it* known, in order that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and I may be in them."

³² And we proclaim the good news to you: that the promise that was made to the fathers, ³³ this promise* God has fulfilled to our children* by* raising Jesus, as it is also written in the second psalm,
'You are my Son; today I have fathered you.'*

⁸ For I say, Christ has become a servant of the circumcision on behalf of the truth of God, in order to confirm the promises to the fathers, ⁹ and that the Gentiles may glorify God for his mercy, just as it is written,
"Because of this, I will praise you among the Gentiles, and I will sing praise to your name."*

² For he says,
"At the acceptable time I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you."*
Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation!

²³ who when he* was reviled, did not revile in return; when* suffering, he did not threaten, but entrusted himself to the one who judges justly,

¹⁸ Consider my affliction and trouble, and forgive* all my sins. ¹⁹ Consider that my enemies are many, and they hate me with violent hatred.

I waited patiently for Yahweh, And he inclined to me and heard my cry for help. ² And so he brought me up from the roaring pit,* from the miry clay. And he put my feet upon a rock; he made my steps steady. ³ Then he put a new song in my mouth, a praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and will trust Yahweh.

² My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?*

Save me, O God, because waters have come up to my neck.* ² I sink in the mud of the deep, and there is no foothold. I have come to watery depths, and the torrent floods over me.

¹⁵ Do not let the torrent of waters flood over me, or the deep swallow me, or the pit close its mouth over me.

³ They also surround me with words of hate, and fight me without cause.

²¹ But you, O Yahweh my Lord, deal with me for your name's sake. Because your loyal love is good, deliver me,

⁴ Then the waters would have flooded over us, the torrent would have passed over our soul. ⁵ Then over our soul would have passed the raging waters."

⁷ Stretch out your hands from on high; Rescue me and deliver me from many waters, from the hand of foreigners,

⁶ So they took Jeremiah and threw him into the pit* of Malchiah, the son of the king, which was in the courtyard of the guard. And they let Jeremiah down by ropes. Now in the pit* there was no water,* _⌊but only_⌋* mud, and Jeremiah sank in the mud. ⁷ When Ebed-melech the Cushite, _⌊a eunuch_⌋* who was in the house of the king, heard that they had put Jeremiah into the pit*—now the king was sitting at the Gate of Benjamin— ⁸ Ebed-melech went out from the house of the king and spoke to the king, _⌊saying_⌋,* ⁹ "My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, in that they have thrown him into the pit,* and he will die _⌊there_⌋* _⌊because of_⌋* starvation, for there is no longer any bread in the city." ¹⁰ Then the king commanded Ebed-melech the Cushite, _⌊saying_⌋,* "Take _⌊with you_⌋* these thirty men and pull Jeremiah the prophet up from the pit* _⌊before_⌋* he dies." ¹¹ So Ebed-melech took the men _⌊with him_⌋* and went to the palace of the king, to a place beneath the storehouse, and he took from there _⌊rags_⌋* and _⌊worn-out clothes_⌋.* And he let them down into the pit* by ropes to Jeremiah. ¹² Then Ebed-melech the Cushite said to Jeremiah, "Please put _⌊the rags_⌋* and _⌊worn-out clothes_⌋* under the joints of your arms under the ropes," and Jeremiah did so. ¹³ And they pulled Jeremiah by the ropes and brought him up from the pit.* And Jeremiah stayed in the courtyard of the guard.

³⁴ And he said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake." ³⁵ And going forward a little he fell to the ground and began to pray* that, if it were possible, the hour would pass from him. ³⁶ And he said, "Abba,* Father, all things are possible for you! Take away this cup from me! Yet not what I will, but what you will."* ³⁷ And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, "Simon, are you sleeping? Were you not able to stay awake one hour? ³⁸ Stay awake and pray that you will not enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak!" ³⁹ And again he went away and* prayed, saying the same thing. ⁴⁰ And again he came and* found them sleeping, _⌊for they could not keep their eyes open_⌋,* and they did not know what to reply to him. ⁴¹ And he came the third time and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? It is enough! The hour has come. Behold, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. ⁴² Get up, let us go! Behold, the one who is betraying me is approaching!"

³⁴ And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?" (which is translated, "My God, my God, _⌊why_⌋* have you forsaken me?")*

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, 'We do not want this man to be king over us!'

²⁷ But these enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them* here and slaughter them in my presence!'"

³⁰ The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you killed by* hanging him* on a tree. ³¹ This one God has exalted to his right hand as Leader and Savior to grant repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

³³ They went down alive to Sheol, they and all that belonged to them, and the land covered over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly. ³⁴ All Israel who were around them fled at their cry, because they said, "Lest the land swallow us up!"

¹⁰ for you will not abandon my soul to Sheol; you will not give your faithful one to see the grave.

⁴ I am reckoned with those descending to the pit. I am like a man* without strength,* ⁵ set free* among the dead, like the slain lying in the grave, whom you no longer remember, even those cut off from your hand. ⁶ You have set me in the pit below, in dark places, in the depths.

¹ But now thus says Yahweh,
he who created you, Jacob, and he who formed you, Israel: "You must not fear, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name; _⌊you are mine_⌋.* ² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not flow over you. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not scorch* you.

² and said,
"I called _⌊from my distress_⌋* to Yahweh, and he answered me; from the belly of Sheol* I cried for help— you heard my voice. ³ And you threw me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the sea currents surrounded me; all your breakers and your surging waves passed over me. ⁴ And I said, 'I am banished* from your sight; how* _⌊will I continue to look_⌋* _⌊on your holy temple_⌋?'* ⁵ The waters encompassed me up to my neck; the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. ⁶ I went down to the foundations of the mountains; the Underworld—its bars were around me forever. But you brought up my life from the pit, Yahweh my God. ⁷ When my life was ebbing away from me, I remembered Yahweh, and my prayer came to you, _⌊to your holy temple_⌋.*

⁴⁰ For just as Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.

²⁴ God raised _⌊him_⌋* up, having brought to an end the pains of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.

³¹ by* having foreseen this,* he spoke about the resurrection of the Christ,* that neither was he abandoned in Hades nor did his flesh experience decay.

¹⁶ Turn to me and have mercy on me because I am lonely and afflicted.

¹¹ But as for me, I will walk in my integrity. Redeem me and be gracious to me.

⁷ How precious is your loyal love, O God, and the children of humankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

³ Because your loyal love is better than life, my lips will praise you.

¹³ But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Yahweh, for a favorable time, O God, according to the abundance of your loyal love. Answer me with the faithfulness of your salvation.

¹⁵ But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, _⌊slow to anger_⌋* and abundant in loyal love and faithfulness. ¹⁶ Turn to me and be gracious to me. Give your strength to your servant, and grant victory to the son* of your maidservant.

⁴⁵ And he remembered his covenant with them, and relented based on the abundance of his loyal love.

⁷ I will mention the loyal love of Yahweh, the praises of Yahweh, according to all that Yahweh has done for us, and the greatness of goodness to the house of Israel that he has done to them according to his mercy and the abundance of his loyal love.

¹⁹ _⌊He will again have compassion_⌋* on us; he will trample our iniquities. And you will hurl all their sins in the depths of the sea.

²¹ And why do you not pardon my transgression and take away my guilt? For now I shall lie in the dust, and you will seek me, but* _⌊I will be no more_⌋."*

How long, O Yahweh? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?

²⁴ because he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, and has not hid his face from him; but he listened to him when he cried for help.

⁹ Do not hide your face from me; do not turn your servant away in anger. You have been my help; do not abandon nor forsake me, O God of my salvation.

¹³ Be pleased, O Yahweh, to deliver me. O Yahweh, hurry to help me.

²⁴ Why do you hide your face? Have you forgotten our misery and our oppression?

⁹ Deliver me from my enemies, O Yahweh. I take refuge in you.*

³⁸ Then he said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake with me."

⁴⁶ And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" (that is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?")*

²⁷ If I had not feared a provocation of the enemy, lest their foes might misunderstand, * lest they should say, * "Our hand is _⌊triumphant_⌋,* and Yahweh did not do all this." '

⁹ The Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of this, and they will surround us and cut off our name from the land. What will you do, for your great name?"

²³ or,* 'Save me from the foe's hand,' or,* 'Ransom me from the tyrants' hand'?

¹ Why, O Yahweh, do you stand far off? Why do you hide* during times of distress?

My God, my God why have you forsaken me? Why are you far from helping me, far from the words of my groaning?

¹⁹ But you, O Yahweh, do not remain distant. O my help, hasten to help me.

⁵ Into your hand I commit my spirit. You have redeemed me, O Yahweh, faithful God.*

¹⁵ Surely God will ransom my life from the _⌊power_⌋* of Sheol, because he will receive me. Selah

⁹ He has sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever; holy and fearful is his name.

⁸ You are the hope of Israel, its savior in time of distress. Why should you be like an alien in the land, or like a traveler who spreads out his tent * to spend the night?

² The kings of the earth establish themselves, and the rulers conspire* together against Yahweh and his anointed: ³ "Let us tear off their bonds, and cast their cords from us!" ⁴ He who sits enthroned in the heavens laughs. The Lord derides them.

⁶ But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by humankind and despised by people. ⁷ All who see me mock me. They open wide their lips; they shake the head, saying:

⁷ Because on account of you I have borne reproach; disgrace has covered my face. ⁸ I have become a stranger to my brothers and a foreigner to my mother's sons, ⁹ because the zeal for your house* has consumed me, and the reproaches of those reproaching you have fallen on me.

⁴⁹ Jesus replied, "I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me!

² "I have heard many things like these; all of you are _⌊miserable comforters_⌋.*

²¹ "Pity me, pity me, you my friends, for God's hand has touched me. ²² Why do you* pursue me like God? And are not satisfied with my flesh?

⁶ O my God, within me my soul is _⌊in despair_⌋;* therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan and the heights of Hermon, from the mountain of Mizar.

¹⁰ As with a shattering in my bones my oppressors taunt me, while they say to me _⌊all day_⌋,* "Where is your God?"

⁴ For long enough our soul has had its fill of the derision of the self-confident, the contempt of the arrogant.

⁴ look to my right and see. There is no one looking out for me; there is no escape for me;* no one cares for my soul.*

⁵ And I looked, but* there was no helper, and I was appalled, but* there was no one who sustains, so* my arm came to assist me, and my wrath _⌊was what_⌋* sustained me.

³⁷ And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, "Simon, are you sleeping? Were you not able to stay awake one hour?

⁵⁰ And they all abandoned him and* fled.

²⁷ "Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, deliver me from this hour'? But for this reason I have come to this hour!

³² Behold, an hour is coming—and has come—that you will be scattered each one to his own home,* and you will leave me alone. And I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

¹⁶ At my first defense, no one came to my aid, but they all deserted me; may it not be counted against them. ¹⁷ But the Lord helped me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fulfilled and all the Gentiles might hear, and he rescued me from the lion's mouth.

³⁶ And others _⌊experienced mocking and flogging_⌋*, and in addition bonds and imprisonment.

¹⁸ so that _⌊there is not_⌋* among you a man or a woman or a clan or a tribe _⌊whose heart_⌋* turns _⌊today_⌋* from being with Yahweh our God to go to serve the gods of these nations, so that there is not among you a root sprouting poison and wormwood.

¹⁴ Why are we sitting? Gather, and let us go into the fortified cities, and let us perish there, for Yahweh our God has caused us to perish, and has provided drink for us, water of poison, because we have sinned against Yahweh.

¹⁵ Therefore thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, "Look, I am feeding this people wormwood, and providing drink for them, water of poison,

¹⁵ _⌊Therefore_⌋* thus says Yahweh concerning the prophets,
"Look, I am going to let them eat wormwood and I will give them water of poison to drink, for from the prophets of Jerusalem went out ungodliness to all the land."

³⁴ they gave him wine mixed with gall to drink, and when he* tasted it* he did not want to drink it.*

⁴⁸ And immediately one of them ran and took a sponge and filled it* with sour wine and put it* on a reed and* gave it* to him to drink.

²³ And they attempted to give* him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.

³⁶ And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it* on a reed, and* gave it* to him to drink, saying, "Leave him* alone! Let us see if Elijah is coming to take him down."

³⁶ And the soldiers also mocked him, coming up and* offering him sour wine

²⁸ After this, Jesus, knowing that now at last everything was completed, in order that the scripture would be fulfilled, said, "I am thirsty." ²⁹ A jar full of sour wine was standing there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a branch of hyssop and* brought it* to his mouth. ³⁰ Then when he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, "It is completed,"* and bowing his* head, he gave up his* spirit.

³² for the waywardness of the simple ones will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.

¹⁴ And he will become like a sanctuary and a stumbling-stone, and like a stumbling-rock for the two houses of Israel, like a trap and a snare for the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And many shall stumble among them, and they shall fall and they shall be broken, and they shall be ensnared and they shall be caught."

² If you will not listen, and if you will not _⌊take it to heart_⌋* to give glory to my name," says Yahweh of hosts, "then I will send the curse on you, and I will curse your blessings; moreover I have already cursed them because _⌊you are not taking it to heart_⌋.*

⁸ just as it is written,
"God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that do not see and ears that do not hear, until this very day."* ⁹ And David says,
"Let their table become a snare and a trap, and a cause for stumbling and a retribution to them; ¹⁰ let their eyes be darkened so that they do not see, and cause their backs to bend _⌊continually_⌋*."*

³ Whenever they say "Peace and security," then sudden destruction will overtake them like the birth pains of _⌊a pregnant woman_⌋*, and they will not possibly escape.

⁸ and
"A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense,"*
who stumble because they* disobey the word to which also they were consigned.

⁶⁵ And among these nations you shall not find rest, and there shall not be a resting place for the sole of your foot, and Yahweh shall give you there an anxious heart and a weakening of eyes* and a languishing of your inner self.* ⁶⁶ And _⌊your life shall hang in doubt before you_⌋,* and you shall be startled* night and day, and you shall not be confident of your life. ⁶⁷ In the morning you shall say, '_⌊If only it was evening_⌋!'* and in the evening you shall say '_⌊If only it was morning_⌋!'* because of the dread of your heart that you shall feel, and because of the sight of your eyes that you shall see.

⁹ And he said, "Go and say to this people,
'Keep on listening and do not comprehend! And keep on looking and do not understand!' ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people insensitive, and make its ears unresponsive, and shut its eyes so that it may not look with its eyes and listen with its ears and comprehend with its mind and turn back, and it may be healed for him."

³ Therefore my loins are filled with anguish; pangs have seized me, like the pangs of a woman giving birth. I am _⌊too bent to hear_⌋,* I am _⌊too dismayed to see_⌋.* ⁴ My _⌊mind_⌋* staggers; fear terrifies me; the twilight _⌊I desired_⌋* _⌊brought_⌋* me fear.

⁹ Be astonished and be amazed! Blind yourselves and be blinded! They are drunk but* not from wine; they stagger but* not from strong drink. ¹⁰ For Yahweh has poured out upon you a spirit of deep sleep, and he has shut your eyes, the prophets, and he has covered your heads, the seers.

⁶ Ask please and see whether a male can bear a child. Why do I see every strong man with his hands on his loins like a woman giving birth? And why are all their faces changed to paleness?

⁶ Then his face changed and his thoughts terrified him, and _⌊his hip joints gave way_⌋* and _⌊his knees knocked together_⌋.*

¹⁴ and with reference to them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says,
"_⌊You will listen carefully_⌋* and will never understand, and _⌊you will look closely_⌋* and will never perceive. ¹⁵ For the heart of this people has become dull, and with their ears they hear with difficulty, and they have shut their eyes, so that they would not see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them."*

³⁹ For this reason they were not able to believe, because again Isaiah said, ⁴⁰ "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, lest they see with their* eyes and understand with their* hearts and turn, and I heal them."*

²⁶ saying,
'Go to this people and say, "_⌊You will keep on hearing_⌋* and will never understand, and _⌊you will keep on seeing_⌋* and will never perceive. ²⁷ For the heart of this people has become dull, and with their* ears they hear with difficulty, and they have shut their eyes, lest they see with their* eyes, and hear with their* ears, and understand with their* heart, and turn, and I would heal them." '*

¹⁰ let their eyes be darkened so that they do not see, and cause their backs to bend _⌊continually_⌋*."*

²⁵ For I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, of this mystery, so that you will not be wise _⌊in your own sight_⌋,* that a partial hardening has happened to Israel, until the full number of the Gentiles has come in,

¹⁴ But their minds were hardened. For until this very day, the same veil remains upon the reading of the old covenant, not being uncovered, because it is done away with in Christ.

¹⁵ Then the chiefs of Edom were horrified; great distress seized the leaders of Moab; all of the inhabitants of Canaan melted away.

¹⁴ " 'But* if you do not listen to me and you do not carry out* all these commands, ¹⁵ and if you reject my statutes and if your inner self* abhors my regulations, to not carry out* all my commands by your breaking my covenant, ¹⁶ I _⌊in turn_⌋* will do this to you: then* I will summon onto you horror, the wasting disease, and the fever that wastes eyes and that drains away life; and you shall sow your seed _⌊in vain_⌋,* and your enemies shall eat it. ¹⁷ And I will set my face against you, and you shall be defeated _⌊before_⌋* your enemies; and your haters shall rule over you, and you shall flee away, but* there shall not be _⌊anybody who is pursuing_⌋* you. ¹⁸ " 'And if in spite of these things you do not listen to me, then* I will continue to discipline you seven times for your sins. ¹⁹ And I will break the pride of your strength; and I will make your heaven like iron* and your land like copper. ²⁰ And your strength shall be consumed _⌊in vain_⌋;* and your land shall not give its produce, and the land's trees shall not give their fruit. ²¹ " 'And if you go against me in hostility and you are not willing to listen to me, then* I will add a plague onto you seven times according to your sins. ²² And I will send _⌊wild animals_⌋* out among you, and they shall make you childless, and they shall cut down your domestic animals, and they shall make you fewer; and your roads shall be desolate. ²³ " 'And if you do not accept correction from* me through these things, but* you go against me in hostility, ²⁴ then* I myself* will also go against you in hostility, and I myself* also will strike you seven times for your sins. ²⁵ And I will bring upon you a sword that seeks vengeance for the covenant, and you shall be gathered to your cities; and I will send a plague in your midst, and you shall be given into the hand of an enemy. ²⁶ At my breaking the _⌊supply_⌋* of bread* for you, then* ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall return your bread by weight; and you shall eat it, and you shall not be satisfied. ²⁷ " 'And if through this you do not listen to me and you go against me in hostility, ²⁸ then* I will go against you in hostile anger, and also* I myself* will discipline you seven times for your sins. ²⁹ And you shall eat the flesh of your sons; and the flesh of your daughters you shall eat. ³⁰ And I will destroy your high places, and I will cut down your incense altars, and I will place your corpses on your idols' corpses; and my inner self* shall abhor you. ³¹ And I will lay your cities in ruins, and I will lay waste your sanctuaries; and I shall not smell your sacrifices'* appeasing fragrance. ³² And I myself* will lay waste the land, and your enemies who are living in it shall be appalled over it. ³³ And I will scatter you among the nations, and I will draw a sword behind you; and your land shall be a desolation, and your cities shall be a ruin. ³⁴ Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbaths all the days of its lying desolate, and you shall be in the land of your enemies; then the land shall rest, and it shall enjoy its Sabbaths. ³⁵ All the days of its lying desolate it shall rest for the time* that it had not rested during your Sabbaths while you were living on it. ³⁶ As for* the ones who remain among you, I will bring* fearfulness in their hearts in the land of their enemies; and a sound of a windblown leaf shall pursue them, and they shall flee like flight _⌊before_⌋* a sword, and they shall fall, but* there shall not be a pursuer. ³⁷ And they shall stumble over _⌊one another_⌋* as _⌊from before_⌋* a sword, but* there shall not be a pursuer; and _⌊you shall have no resistance_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* your enemies. ³⁸ And you shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you. ³⁹ And because of their guilt, the ones among you who remain shall decay in the land of their enemies; and also because of the iniquities of their ancestors,* they shall decay with them. ⁴⁰ " 'But* when they confess their guilt and the guilt of their ancestors* in their infidelity that they displayed against me, and moreover that they went against me in hostility— ⁴¹ I myself* also* went against them in hostility, and I brought them into the land of their enemies—or if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled and then they pay for their guilt, ⁴² I will remember* my covenant with Jacob; and I will remember also my covenant with Isaac and also my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land. ⁴³ And the land shall be deserted by them, and it shall enjoy its Sabbaths in its being desolate from them, and they themselves* must pay for their guilt, _⌊simply because_⌋* they rejected my regulations, and their inner self* abhorred my statutes. ⁴⁴ And _⌊in spite of_⌋* this, _⌊when they are_⌋* in the land of their enemies I will not reject them, and I will not abhor them to destroy them, to break my covenant with them, because I am Yahweh their God. ⁴⁵ And I will remember the first covenant for them*—whom I brought out from the land of Egypt _⌊in the sight of_⌋* the nations _⌊to be their God_⌋.* I am Yahweh.'" ⁴⁶ These are the rules and the regulations and the laws that Yahweh gave between himself and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* on _⌊Mount Sinai_⌋* _⌊through_⌋* Moses.

¹⁵ "_⌊And then_⌋* if you do not listen to the voice of Yahweh your God _⌊by diligently observing_⌋* all of his commandments and his statutes that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋,* then all of these curses shall come upon you, and they shall overtake you: ¹⁶ "You shall* be cursed in the city, and you shall be cursed in the field. ¹⁷ "Your basket shall be cursed and your kneading trough. ¹⁸ "The fruit of your womb shall be cursed and the fruit of you ground, the calves of your cattle and the lambs of your flock. ¹⁹ "You shall be cursed _⌊when you come in_⌋,* and you shall be cursed _⌊when you go out_⌋.* ²⁰ "Yahweh will send upon you* the curse,* the panic,* and the threat* _⌊in everything that you undertake_⌋,* _⌊until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly_⌋* _⌊because of_⌋* the evil of your deeds in that* you have forsaken me. ²¹ Yahweh will cause the plague to cling to you _⌊until it consumes you_⌋* from the land that you are going to,* to take possession of it. ²² Yahweh will afflict you with the wasting diseases and with the fever and with the inflammation and with the scorching heat and with the sword* and with the blight and with the mildew, and they shall pursue you _⌊until you perish_⌋.* ²³ And your heavens that are over your heads shall be like bronze, and the earth that is under you shall be like iron. ²⁴ Yahweh will change the rain of your land to fine dust and to sand; from the heaven it shall come down upon you _⌊until you are destroyed_⌋.* ²⁵ "Yahweh shall cause you to be defeated _⌊before_⌋* your enemies; on one road you shall go _⌊against_⌋* them,* but you will flee on seven roads _⌊before_⌋* them,* and you shall become a thing of horror to all of the kingdoms of the earth. ²⁶ And your dead bodies shall be as food for all of the birds of the heaven and to the animals of the earth, and there shall not be _⌊anyone to frighten them away_⌋.* ²⁷ "Yahweh shall afflict you with the boils of Egypt and with tumors and with the scurvy and with _⌊the skin rash that cannot be healed_⌋.* ²⁸ Yahweh shall afflict you with madness and with blindness and with confusion of heart. ²⁹ And you shall be groping at noon just as the blind person gropes in the dark, and you shall not succeed in finding your way, and you shall only be abused and robbed _⌊all the time_⌋,* and there will not be _⌊anyone who will rescue you_⌋. * ³⁰ You shall become engaged to a woman, but another man shall sleep* with her; you shall build a house, but you shall not live in it; a vineyard you shall plant, but you shall not enjoy it. ³¹ Your ox shall be slaughtered before your eyes, and you shall not eat it; your donkey shall be stolen right _⌊before you_⌋,* and it shall not be returned to you; your sheep and your goats shall be given to your enemies, and _⌊there shall not be anyone who rescues you_⌋.* ³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to other people, and _⌊you will be looking on_⌋* _⌊longingly_⌋* for* them all day, _⌊but you will be powerless to do anything_⌋.* ³³ A people that you do not know shall consume the harvest of your land and all your labor, and you will be only oppressed and crushed _⌊for the rest of your lives_⌋.* ³⁴ You shall become mad _⌊because of what your eyes shall see_⌋.* ³⁵ Yahweh shall strike you with grievous boils on the knees and on the upper thighs from which _⌊you will not be able to be healed_⌋,* from the sole of your foot and up to your crown. ³⁶ Yahweh will bring you and your king whom you set up over you to a nation that you or your ancestors* have not known, and there you will serve other gods of wood and stone. ³⁷ And you will become a horror and a proverb and ridicule among all the peoples where Yahweh drives you there. ³⁸ "You shall carry out much seed to the field, but you shall gather little produce, for the locust shall devour it. ³⁹ You shall plant vineyards and you shall dress* them, but you shall not drink wine and you shall not gather grapes, for the worm shall eat it.* ⁴⁰ There shall be olive trees for you in all of your territory, but you shall not anoint yourself, for your olives* shall drop off. ⁴¹ You shall bear sons and daughters, but they shall not be _⌊yours_⌋,* for they shall go into captivity. ⁴² The cricket shall take possession of all your trees and the fruit of your ground. ⁴³ The alien that is in your midst shall ascend over you, higher and higher, but you shall go down lower and lower. ⁴⁴ He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, but you shall be the tail. ⁴⁵ "And all of these curses shall come over you, and they shall pursue you, and they shall overtake you _⌊until you are destroyed_⌋,* because _⌊you did not listen_⌋* to the voice of Yahweh your God, _⌊by observing_⌋* his commandments and his statutes that he commanded you. ⁴⁶ And they shall be among you as a sign and as a wonder and among your offspring _⌊forever_⌋.* ⁴⁷ "_⌊Because_⌋* of the fact that you did not serve Yahweh your God with joy and with gladness of heart for the abundance of everything, ⁴⁸ then you shall serve your enemies, whom Yahweh will send against you under conditions of famine, in thirst, in nakedness, and in a lack of everything; and he shall place* a yoke of iron on your neck _⌊until he has destroyed you_⌋.* ⁴⁹ Yahweh will raise up against you a nation from far off, from the end of the earth, attacking as the eagle swoops down, _⌊a nation whose language you will not understand_⌋,* ⁵⁰ _⌊a grim-faced nation_⌋* _⌊who does not show respect_⌋* to the old and the young and does not show pity. ⁵¹ And it* shall consume the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your ground _⌊until you are destroyed_⌋,* and who will not leave for you any grain, wine, and olive oil, _⌊calves of your herds_⌋,* and _⌊lambs of_⌋* your flock _⌊until it has destroyed you_⌋.* ⁵² And it shall besiege you in all your towns _⌊until your high and fortified walls fall_⌋,* which you are trusting in* _⌊throughout your land_⌋;* and it shall besiege you in all of your towns in all of your land that Yahweh your God has given to you. ⁵³ And you shall eat the fruit of your womb, the flesh of your sons and your daughters, whom Yahweh your God gave to you, _⌊during the siege and during the distress_⌋* your enemy inflicts upon you. ⁵⁴ The most refined and the very sensitive* man among you _⌊shall be mean with his brother_⌋* and _⌊against his beloved wife_⌋* and against the rest* of his children that he has left over, ⁵⁵ _⌊by refraining from giving_⌋* to even one of them any of the meat of his children that he eats, because there is not anything that is left over for him _⌊during the siege and distress_⌋* that your enemy inflicts upon you. ⁵⁶ The most refined and the most delicate woman among you, who shall* not venture to put the sole of her foot on the ground from being so delicate and from such gentleness, _⌊shall be mean to her beloved husband_⌋* and against her son and against her daughter, ⁵⁷ and even concerning her afterbirth _⌊that goes out_⌋* from between her feet and also concerning her children that she bears, because she eats them for lack of anything in secret _⌊during the siege and during the distress_⌋* that your enemy inflicts upon her in your _⌊towns_⌋.* ⁵⁸ "If _⌊you do not diligently observe_⌋* all the words of this law written in this scroll by revering this glorious and awesome name, Yahweh your God, ⁵⁹ then Yahweh shall overwhelm you with your plagues and the plagues of your offspring, severe plagues and lasting illnesses, grievous and enduring. ⁶⁰ And he shall bring back upon you all the diseases of Egypt concerning which _⌊you were in dread_⌋* _⌊because of them_⌋.* ⁶¹ Also any illness and any plague* that is not written in the scroll of this law, he shall bring them, Yahweh, upon you until you are destroyed. ⁶² And you shall remain _⌊only a few people_⌋* in place of the fact you were formerly as the stars of heaven as far as number is concerned, because you did not listen to the voice of Yahweh your God. ⁶³ _⌊And then_⌋* as Yahweh delighted over you _⌊to make you prosperous_⌋* to make you numerous, so Yahweh shall delight over you to exterminate you* and to destroy you, and so you shall be plucked from the land that you are going there to take possession of it. ⁶⁴ And Yahweh shall scatter you among all the nations from one end of the earth up to the other end of the earth, and there you shall serve other gods that you have not known nor* your ancestors,* gods of wood and stone. ⁶⁵ And among these nations you shall not find rest, and there shall not be a resting place for the sole of your foot, and Yahweh shall give you there an anxious heart and a weakening of eyes* and a languishing of your inner self.* ⁶⁶ And _⌊your life shall hang in doubt before you_⌋,* and you shall be startled* night and day, and you shall not be confident of your life. ⁶⁷ In the morning you shall say, '_⌊If only it was evening_⌋!'* and in the evening you shall say '_⌊If only it was morning_⌋!'* because of the dread of your heart that you shall feel, and because of the sight of your eyes that you shall see. ⁶⁸ And Yahweh shall bring you back to Egypt in ships by the route that I _⌊promised_⌋* to you that '_⌊You shall not see it again_⌋!'* And you shall sell yourself there to your enemies as slaves and as female slaves, but there will not be a buyer."

¹⁸ so that _⌊there is not_⌋* among you a man or a woman or a clan or a tribe _⌊whose heart_⌋* turns _⌊today_⌋* from being with Yahweh our God to go to serve the gods of these nations, so that there is not among you a root sprouting poison and wormwood. ¹⁹ And then when he hears the words of this oath, then* _⌊he will assure himself_⌋* in his heart, _⌊saying_⌋,* '_⌊Safety shall be mine even though I go in the stubbornness of my heart_⌋,'* thereby destroying the well-watered land along with the parched.* ²⁰ Yahweh will not be willing to forgive him, for by then the anger of Yahweh will smoke, and his passion against that man and all the curses written in this scroll will descend on him, and Yahweh will blot out his name from under heaven. ²¹ And Yahweh will single him out for calamity out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant written in the scroll of this law. ²² "And the next generation, that is, your children who will rise up after you, and the foreigner who will come from a distant land, when* they will see the plagues of that land and its diseases that Yahweh has inflicted upon it, will say, ²³ 'All its land is brimstone and salt left by fire, _⌊none of its land will be sown_⌋,* and it will not make plants sprout out and it will not grow any vegetation; it is as the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Adman and Zeboiim, which Yahweh overturned in his anger and in his wrath.' ²⁴ And all the nations will say, '_⌊Why_⌋* has Yahweh done _⌊such a thing_⌋* to this land? What caused the fierceness of this great anger?' ²⁵ And they will say,* 'It is because they abandoned the covenant of Yahweh, the God of their ancestors,* which he _⌊made_⌋* with them _⌊when he brought them out_⌋* from the land of Egypt. ²⁶ And they went and served other gods and bowed down to them, gods whom they did not know them and he* had not allotted to them. ²⁷ So _⌊the anger of Yahweh was kindled_⌋* against that land to bring upon it all the curses written in this scroll, ²⁸ and Yahweh uprooted them from their land in anger and in wrath and in great fury, and he cast them into another land, _⌊just as it is today_⌋.'*

¹⁷ And _⌊my anger shall flare up against them_⌋* on that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they* shall become as prey, and disasters and troubles shall find* them,* and they* shall say on that day, 'Is it not because our* God is not in our* midst that these disasters have found* us?'*

²⁰ So he said, 'I will hide my face from them; I will see what will be their end, for they are a generation of perversity, _⌊children in whom there is no faithfulness_⌋.* ²¹ They annoyed me with what is not a god; they provoked me with their idols. So I will make them jealous with those not a people, with a foolish nation I will provoke them. ²² For a fire was kindled* by my anger, and it burned _⌊up to the depths of Sheol_⌋,* and it devoured the earth and its produce, and it set afire the foundation of the mountains. ²³ I will heap disasters upon them; my arrows I will spend on them. ²⁴ They will become weakened by famine, and consumed by plague and bitter pestilence; and the teeth of wild animals I will send against them, with the poison of the creeping things in the dust; ²⁵ From outside her boundaries the sword will make her childless, and from inside, terror; both for the young man and also the young woman, the infant along with the gray-headed man. ²⁶ I thought, "I will wipe them out; _⌊I will make people forget they ever existed_⌋."*

⁶ Pour out your anger on the nations that do not know you, and on the kingdoms that do not call on your name,

⁸ and they will be dismayed. Pangs and labor pains will seize them; they will tremble like a woman giving birth. _⌊They will stare at one another_⌋,* _⌊their faces flushing_⌋.*

¹⁰ The princes of Judah have become like those who remove a landmark; on them I will pour out my wrath like water.

⁶ However, did not my words and my regulations which I commanded my servants the prophets overtake your ancestors?* And they repented and said, 'Yahweh of hosts planned to do with us according to our ways, and according to our deeds so he has dealt with us.'" '"

³⁵ so that upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on the earth from the blood of righteous Abel up to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation! ³⁷ "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How many times I wanted to gather your children together _⌊the way_⌋* a hen gathers her young together under her* wings, and you were not willing!

²² because these are days of vengeance, so that all the things that are written can be fulfilled.

¹⁵ who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and who persecuted us, and who are not pleasing to God and are opposed to all people, ¹⁶ hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles in order that they may be saved, so that they always fill up their sins. But wrath has come upon them to the end.*

¹ And I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, "Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God."

⁸ This house shall become a heap of ruins; all those passing by will be appalled by it and hiss, and they will say, 'On what account did Yahweh do this to this land and to this house?'

¹ Let me sing for my beloved a song of my love concerning his vineyard: _⌊My beloved had a vineyard_⌋* on _⌊a fertile hill_⌋.*

¹¹ Then I said, "Until when, Lord?"
And he said,
"Until the cities lie wasted without inhabitant, and houses without people, and the land is ruined and a waste,

¹² "For go now to my place that was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell in the beginning, and see what I did to it _⌊because of_⌋* the wickedness of my people Israel. ¹³ And now, because of your doing all these things," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and _⌊I have spoken to you over and over again_⌋,* and you have not listened, and I called you, and you have not answered, ¹⁴ therefore I will do to the house that is called _⌊by my name_⌋,* in which you are trusting, and to the place that I gave to you and to your ancestors* _⌊what_⌋* I did to Shiloh.

³⁸ Behold, your house has been left to you desolate!

¹ And as Jesus went out of the temple courts* he was going along, and his disciples came up to point out to him the buildings of the temple. ² But he answered and* said to them, "Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, not one stone will be left here on another stone that will not be thrown down!"

³⁵ Behold, your house has been left to you! And I tell you, you will never see me until the time* will come when you say, 'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!'"*

²⁰ "For it is written in the book of Psalms,
'Let his residence become deserted, and let there be no one to live in it,'*
and,
'Let another person take his position.'*

⁹ Now a prophet of Yahweh was there; Oded was his name. And he went out before the army that was coming to Samaria and said to them, "Look, it is on account of the anger of Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* against Judah that he gave them into your hands, and you killed them in a rage reaching to the heavens.

¹⁶ because he did not remember to show loyal love, but he pursued anyone,* poor or needy or brokenhearted, to slay them.

⁴ However, he was the one who lifted up our sicknesses, and he carried our pain, yet* we ourselves assumed him stricken, struck down by God and afflicted.

¹⁰ Yet* Yahweh was pleased to crush him; he _⌊made him sick_⌋.* If she* places* his life a guilt offering,* he will see offspring. He will prolong days, and the will of Yahweh will succeed in his hand.

¹⁵ And _⌊I am extremely angry_⌋* with the nations that are at ease, for while I was a little angry, they _⌊furthered disaster_⌋."*

⁷ "O sword, awake against my shepherd, against the man who is my associate," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts. "Strike the shepherd, so that the sheep* may be scattered, and I will turn my hand against the small ones.

²⁷ And with him they crucified two robbers, one on his right and one on his left.*

²⁹ And those who passed by reviled him, shaking their heads and saying, "Aha! The one who would destroy the temple and rebuild it* in three days, ³⁰ save yourself by* coming down from the cross!" ³¹ In the same way also the chief priests, along with the scribes, were mocking him* to one another, saying, "He saved others; he is not able to save himself! ³² Let the Christ, the king of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see and believe! Even those who were crucified with him were reviling him.

¹⁵ who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and who persecuted us, and who are not pleasing to God and are opposed to all people,

¹⁵ And Pharaoh saw that there was relief, and he made his heart _⌊insensitive_⌋,* and he did not listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken.

³² And Pharaoh made his heart _⌊insensitive_⌋* also this time, and he did not release the people.

¹² And Yahweh hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken to Moses.

³⁹ And because of their guilt, the ones among you who remain shall decay in the land of their enemies; and also because of the iniquities of their ancestors,* they shall decay with them.

⁵ Do not cover their guilt, and do not let their sin be blotted out from before you. They have _⌊provoked the builders to anger_⌋.*

⁵ He will receive blessing from Yahweh, and justice* from the God of his salvation.

¹² So I let them* go in the stubbornness of their heart; they walked in their counsels.

¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his ancestors* be remembered before Yahweh, and let the sin of his mother not be blotted out.

¹⁷ Because he loved cursing, let it come upon him. Because he did not delight in blessing, let it be far from him. ¹⁸ Because he wore a curse as his robe, let it enter _⌊his body_⌋* like water, and into his bones like oil. ¹⁹ May it be for him like a garment in which he wraps, and a belt _⌊he continually wears_⌋.*

⁶ And I will make it a wasteland; it shall not be pruned and hoed, and it shall be overgrown with briers* and thornbushes.* And concerning the clouds, I will command _⌊them not to send_⌋* rain down upon it.

¹⁰ Though the wicked person is shown compassion, he does not learn righteousness;
he acts unjustly in the land of uprightness, and he does not see the majesty of Yahweh.

¹⁹ And seeing a single fig tree by the road, he went to it and found nothing on it except leaves only. And he said to it, "May there be no more fruit from you _⌊forever_⌋,* and the fig tree withered at once.

³¹ Thus you testify against yourselves that you are descendants of those who murdered the prophets! ³² And you—fill up the measure of your fathers!

⁴ saying, "I have sinned by* betraying innocent blood!" But they said, "What is that to us? You see to it!"* ⁵ And throwing the silver coins into the temple he departed. And he went away and* hanged himself.

²⁸ And just as they did not see fit _⌊to recognize God_⌋*, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do the things that are not proper,

¹⁸ Consequently therefore, he has mercy on whomever he wishes, and he hardens whomever he wishes.

³¹ But Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, did not attain to the law.

² For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. ³ For ignoring the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own,* they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

¹¹ And because of this, God sends them _⌊a powerful delusion_⌋* so that they will believe the lie, ¹² in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth, but delighted in unrighteousness.

¹⁴ Alexander the metalworker did me much harm; may the Lord pay back to him according to his deeds,

¹⁰ And he said to me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near! ¹¹ The one who does evil, let him do evil still, and the defiled, let him be defiled still, and the righteous, let him practice righteousness still, and the holy, let him be holy still."

³² And now if you will forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me from your scroll that you have written." ³³ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against me I will blot him from my scroll.

³ And this shall happen: He who is left in Zion and he who remains in Jerusalem will be called holy, everyone written for life in Jerusalem,

¹⁶ Whoever blesses himself in the land shall bless himself by the God of trustworthiness, and the one who swears an oath in the land shall swear by the God of trustworthiness, because the former troubles are forgotten, and they are hidden from my eyes.

⁹ "And it will be my hand against the prophets who are seeing falseness and who are practicing lying divination. They will not be in the council of my people, and they will not be written down in the record book of the house of Israel, and into* the land of Israel they will not come, and then you will know that I am the Lord Yahweh.

⁹ And he* said, "_⌊Name him_⌋* Lo-ammi,* for you are not my people and I am not your God.*

²⁰ Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are inscribed in heaven."

³ Yes, I ask also you, true yokefellow, help them, who struggled along with me in the gospel with both Clement and the rest of my fellow workers whose names are in the book of life.

²³ and assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of righteous people made perfect,

⁵ The one who conquers in this way will be dressed in white clothing, and I will never erase his name from the book of life, and I will declare his name before my Father and before his angels.

⁸ And all those who live on the earth will worship him, _⌊everyone whose name is not written_⌋* from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slaughtered.

¹² And I saw the dead—the great and the small—standing before the throne, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the book of life, and the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to their deeds. ¹³ And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and each one was judged according to their deeds. ¹⁴ And Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death—the lake of fire. ¹⁵ And if anyone was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

¹⁹ And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share of the tree of life and from the holy city that are written in this book.

⁴⁸ who delivered me from my enemies. Indeed, you exalted me higher than those who rose against me. You delivered me from the man of violence.

May Yahweh answer you in the day of trouble. May the name of Jacob's God protect* you.

²⁷ All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to Yahweh. All the families of the nations will worship before you. ²⁸ Because the kingship belongs to Yahweh, and he rules over the nations. ²⁹ All the _⌊healthy ones_⌋* of the earth will eat and worship. Before him all of those descending into the dust will kneel, even he who cannot keep his soul alive. ³⁰ Descendants* will serve him. Deliver me from my enemies, O my God. Protect* me from those who rise up against me.

²⁶ He will call out to me, 'You are my Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.' ²⁷ I will also make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.

¹⁴ Because he loves me, therefore I will deliver him; I will protect* him because he knows my name. ¹⁵ He will call upon me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue and honor him. ¹⁶ With _⌊long life_⌋* I will satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

²² for I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

² For* he went* up like a shoot before him, and like a root from dry ground. He had no form and no majesty that* we should see him, and no appearance that* we should take pleasure in him. ³ He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering, and acquainted with* sickness, and like _⌊one from whom others hide their faces_⌋,* he was despised, and we did not hold him in high regard.

²⁰ And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."

⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that although he* was rich, for your sake he became poor, in order that you, by his poverty, may become rich.

²¹ above all rule and authority and power and lordship and every name named, not only in this age but also in the coming one, ²² and he subjected all things under his feet* and gave him as head over all things to the church,

⁹ Therefore also God exalted him and graciously granted him the name above every name, ¹⁰ so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and of those on earth and of those under the earth, ¹¹ and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

⁷ Yahweh is my strength and my shield. My heart trusts him and I am helped. So my heart rejoices, and with my song I will give thanks to him.

³ Magnify Yahweh with me, and let us exalt his name together.

¹⁴ Offer to God a thank offering and pay your vows to the Most High.

²¹ I will give thanks to you for you have answered me, and you have become my salvation.*

²⁸ You are my God, and I will give thanks to you. You are my God; I will exalt you. ²⁹ Give thanks to Yahweh for he is good, for his loyal love is forever.

¹³ Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats? ¹⁴ Offer to God a thank offering and pay your vows to the Most High.

²³ He who sacrifices a thank offering honors me, and he who orders his way; I will show him the salvation of God."

² Take words with you, and return to Yahweh. Say to him, "Take away all guilt; accept good, and we will offer the fruit* of our lips.

¹⁹ speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and singing praise in your heart to the Lord, ²⁰ giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to the God and Father,

¹⁵ Therefore through him let us offer up a sacrifice of praise _⌊continually_⌋* to God, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name.

⁵ And you yourselves, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

²⁶ The afflicted will eat and will be satisfied. Those who seek him will praise Yahweh. May your* heart live forever.

⁹ He causes the humble to walk in justice, and teaches the humble his way.

² My soul makes its boast in Yahweh; let the humble hear and be glad.

⁶ Seek Yahweh _⌊while he lets himself be found_⌋;* call him _⌊while he is_⌋* near. ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the man of sin his thoughts. And let him return to Yahweh, that* he may take pity on him, and to our God, for he will _⌊forgive manifold_⌋.*

¹ The Spirit of the Lord Yahweh is upon me, because Yahweh has anointed me, he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up _⌊the brokenhearted_⌋,* to _⌊proclaim_⌋* release to the captives and liberation to those who are bound, ² to _⌊proclaim_⌋* the year of Yahweh's favor, and our God's day of vengeance, to comfort all those in mourning, ³ to _⌊give_⌋* for those in mourning in Zion, to give them a head wrap instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of a faint spirit. And _⌊they will be called_⌋* oaks of righteousness, the planting of Yahweh, to show his glory.

²² So you also are experiencing sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy from you.

²⁰ And when he* had said this, he showed his* hands and his* side to them. Then the disciples rejoiced when they* saw the Lord.

¹⁷ The longing of the afflicted you have heard, O Yahweh. You will make their heart secure. You will _⌊listen attentively_⌋*

⁵ "Because of the oppression of the afflicted, because of the groaning of the poor, now I will rise up," Yahweh says. "I shall put them in the safety for which they* long."

⁶ This poor man called and Yahweh heard, and saved him from all his troubles.

⁶ God settles the lonely in a home; he brings prisoners out into prosperity. But the rebellious abide in a barren land.

¹² Indeed he will deliver the needy who is crying for help, and the afflicted who has no helper. ¹³ He will take pity on the helpless and needy, and the lives of the needy he will save. ¹⁴ From oppression and from violence he will redeem their lives, and their blood will be precious in his eyes.

¹⁷ He will turn his attention to the prayer of the destitute and will not despise their prayer.

²⁰ to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to liberate _⌊those destined to die_⌋,*

¹⁰ Those who sat in darkness and gloom, prisoners of misery and iron—

⁷ who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food for the hungry. Yahweh sets prisoners free;

² And my hand has made all these things, and all these _⌊came to be_⌋,"*
_⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "but* I look to this one:
to the humble and the contrite of spirit and the one frightened at my word.

¹¹ As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant, I will release your prisoners from _⌊the waterless pit_⌋.* ¹² Return to the fortress, O prisoners of hope; today I am declaring that I will repay you double.

¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because of which he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to send out in freedom those who are oppressed,

¹⁸ And they laid hands on the apostles and put them in the public prison. ¹⁹ But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison and led them out and* said,

⁴ After he* had arrested _⌊him_⌋,* he also put him* in prison, handing him* over to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending to bring him _⌊out for public trial_⌋* after the Passover. ⁵ Thus Peter was kept in the prison, but prayer was fervently being made to God by the church for him. ⁶ Now when Herod was about to bring him out, on that very night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and guards before the door were watching the prison. ⁷ And behold, an angel of the Lord stood near him,* and a light shone in the prison cell. And striking Peter's side, he woke him up, saying, "Get up _⌊quickly_⌋!"* And his chains fell off of his* hands. ⁸ And the angel said to him, "Gird yourself and put on your sandals!" And he did so. And he said to him, "Wrap your cloak around you and follow me!" ⁹ And he went out and* was following him.* And he did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but was thinking he was seeing a vision. ¹⁰ And after they* had passed the first and second guard, they came to the iron gate that leads to the city, which opened for them by itself, and they went out and* went forward along one narrow street, and at once the angel departed from him. ¹¹ And when* Peter came to himself, he said, "Now I know truly that the Lord has sent out his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and all _⌊that the Jewish people expected_⌋!"*

¹ On account of this I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles

¹⁰ Do not be afraid of the things which you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison so that you may be tested, and you will experience affliction ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

²⁰ And God said, "Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly over the earth across the face of the vaulted dome* of heaven.*

¹¹ Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice. Let the sea with* its fullness roar.

⁷ Let the sea with* its fullness roar, the world and those who live in it. ⁸ Let the rivers clap their hands. Let the hills sing joyfully together

¹ Praise Yah.* Praise Yahweh from the heavens; praise him in the heights. ² Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his hosts.* ³ Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all stars of light. ⁴ Praise him, _⌊highest heavens_⌋,* and waters above the heavens. ⁵ Let them praise the name of Yahweh, because he commanded and they were created. ⁶ And he put them in place forever and ever, by a decree he gave that will not pass away. ⁷ Praise Yahweh from the earth— great sea creatures and all deeps, ⁸ fire and hail, snow and cloud,* stormy wind doing his bidding,* ⁹ the mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, ¹⁰ beasts and all cattle,* creeping things and _⌊flying birds_⌋,* ¹¹ kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all judges of the earth, ¹² young men and young women as well, the old together with the young— ¹³ let them praise the name of Yahweh, because his name alone is is exalted. His splendor is above earth and heavens. ¹⁴ And he has raised high a horn for his people, praise for all his faithful— for the children of Israel, a people close to him. Praise Yah.*

⁶ Every breathing thing, let it praise Yah.* Praise Yah.*

²² I have wiped your transgressions out like a cloud and your sins like mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you!" ²³ Sing for joy, heavens, for Yahweh has done it! Shout, depths of the earth! Break forth, mountains, in rejoicing, forest and every tree in it, for Yahweh has redeemed Jacob, and he will show his glory in Israel!

¹³ Sing for joy, heavens, and rejoice, earth! Mountains must break forth in rejoicing! For Yahweh has comforted his people, and he will take pity on his afflicted ones.

¹² For you shall go out in joy, and you shall be led in peace. The mountains and the hills shall break forth before you, rejoicing and all the trees of the field shall clap hands.*

¹¹ And all the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, ¹² saying,
"Amen! Praise and glory, and wisdom and thanksgiving, and honor and power and strength be to our God _⌊forever and ever_⌋*. Amen!" ¹³ And one of the elders answered, saying to me, "These who are dressed in the white robes—who are they, and from where have they come?"

¹¹ Let _⌊Mount Zion_⌋* rejoice; let the daughters of Judah rejoice because of your judgments. ¹² Walk about Zion and circle it; count her towers. ¹³ _⌊Consider well_⌋* her ramparts. Go through her citadels so that you can tell the next generation

¹⁸ Do good in your favor toward Zion. Build the walls of Jerusalem.

¹³ You rise up and take pity on Zion, because it is time to favor it, for the appointed time has come.

¹⁶ For Yahweh will rebuild Zion; he will appear in his glory.

¹² Laud Yahweh, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion, ¹³ for he strengthens the bars of your gates. He blesses your children within you;

³² And what will one answer the messengers of the nation?
That Yahweh has founded Zion, and the needy of his people will take refuge in it.

²⁶ who keeps* the word of his servant and carries out the plan of his messengers, who says of Jerusalem, 'It shall be inhabited,' and of the cities of Judah, 'They shall be rebuilt, and I will restore its ruins';

¹³ I bring my righteousness near; it is not far. And my salvation will not delay; and I will put* salvation in Zion, for Israel my glory."

¹⁰ "Thus says Yahweh: 'Again will be heard in this place, of which you are saying, "It is a waste, _⌊without_⌋* people and _⌊without_⌋* animals,"* in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate, _⌊without_⌋* people and _⌊without_⌋* inhabitants* and _⌊without_⌋* animals,* ¹¹ the voice of jubilation, and the voice of joy, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voices* of those who say, "Praise Yahweh of hosts, for Yahweh is good, for his loyal love is _⌊forever_⌋,"* the voices of those who bring thank offerings* to the house of Yahweh, for I will restore the fortunes* of the land as in the beginning,' says Yahweh.

³⁵ And they will say, "_⌊This desolate land_⌋* has become like the garden of Eden, and the wasted and desolate and destroyed cities, now being refortified, are inhabited." ³⁶ And the nations who are left all around, you will know that I, Yahweh, I built _⌊that which was destroyed_⌋;* I planted the desolate land; I, Yahweh, I have spoken, and I will act.'

¹⁷ But on Mount Zion there will be an escape, and it will be holy, and the house of Jacob will take possession of their dispossessors.

¹ And I looked, and behold, the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him one hundred forty-four thousand who had his name and the name of his Father written on their foreheads.

²⁹ The righteous will possess the land and abide in it forever.

¹⁶ Let your work be visible to your servants, and your majesty to their children. ¹⁷ And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish for us the work of our hands, yes, the work of our hands, establish it.

¹⁴ Because he loves me, therefore I will deliver him; I will protect* him because he knows my name.

²⁸ The children of your servants will continue, and their _⌊descendants_⌋* will be established before you.

³ For I will pour out water on a thirsty land and streams on dry ground. I will pour my spirit out on your descendants* and my blessing on your offspring. ⁴ And they shall sprout _⌊among_⌋* the grass like willows by a watercourse of water.

⁹ And their descendants* will be known among the nations, and their offspring in the midst of the peoples. All those who see them shall recognize them, that they are descendants* whom Yahweh has blessed.

²³ Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and _⌊will take up residence with him_⌋.*

³⁹ For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all those who are far away, as many as the Lord our God calls to himself."

²⁸ And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose,

¹² Blessed is the person* who endures testing, because when he* is approved he will receive the crown of life that he* has promised to those who love him.

⁵ Listen, my dear brothers! Did not God choose the poor of the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?

²⁷ And every unclean thing and one who practices* detestable things and falsehood will never enter into it, except those who are written in the book of life of the Lamb.
