⁶ But if by grace, it is no longer by works, for otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

⁴ "You shall not say _⌊to yourself_⌋* _⌊when Yahweh your God is driving them out_⌋* _⌊before you_⌋,* _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Because of my righteousness Yahweh brought me to take possession of this land'; but because of the wickedness of these nations Yahweh is driving them out _⌊before you_⌋.* ⁵ It is not because of your righteousness and because of the uprightness of your heart that you are coming to take possession of their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations Yahweh your God is driving them _⌊before you_⌋,* and in order to confirm the _⌊promise_⌋* that Yahweh swore to your ancestors,* to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. ⁶ "So you should understand that it is not because of your righteousness that Yahweh your God is giving you this good land to take possession of it, because _⌊you are a stubborn people_⌋. *

²⁷ Therefore, where is boasting? It has been excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law* of faith. ²⁸ For we consider a person to be justified by faith apart from the works of the law.

⁴ Now to the one who works, his pay is not credited according to grace, but according to his due. ⁵ But to the one who does not work, but who believes in the one who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited for righteousness,

²⁰ Now the law came in as a side issue, in order that the trespass could increase, but where sin increased, grace was present in greater abundance, ²¹ so that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹⁰ But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me has not been in vain, but I labored even more than all of them, and not I, but the grace of God with me.

²¹ I do not declare invalid the grace of God, for if righteousness is through the law, then Christ died to no purpose.

⁴ You are estranged from Christ, you who are attempting to be justified* by the law; you have fallen from grace.

⁴ But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us, ⁵ and we being dead in trespasses, he made us alive together with Christ (by grace you are saved), ⁶ and raised us together and seated us together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, ⁷ in order that he might show in the coming ages the surpassing riches of his grace in kindness upon us in Christ Jesus. ⁸ For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; ⁹ it is not from works, so that no one can boast.

⁹ who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works but according to his own purpose and grace that was given to us in Christ Jesus _⌊before time began_⌋*,

⁵ he saved us, not by deeds of righteousness that we have done, but because of his mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
