¹¹ And they found a man, an Egyptian, in the field, and took him to David, and gave him food, and he ate. And they made him drink water.

⁷ If there is a poor man among you, one of your brothers inside any of your gates in your land which Jehovah your God is giving to you, you shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your needy brother. ⁸ But you shall surely open your hand to him, and shall surely lend him enough for his need in that which he lacks. ⁹ Beware that there is no evil thought in your heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release draws near; and your eye be evil against your needy brother, and you give him nothing, and he cry to Jehovah against you and it be sin to you. ¹⁰ You shall surely give to him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him, because Jehovah your God will bless you for this thing, in all your work, and in all that you put your hand to. ¹¹ For the poor will never cease from the midst of the land. On account of this I command you, saying, You shall surely open your hand to your poor and needy brother in your land.

⁷ You shall not despise an Edomite, for he is your brother. You shall not despise an Egyptian, for you were an alien in his land;

²¹ If your hater is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink,

³⁵ For I hungered, and you gave Me food to eat; I thirsted, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you took Me in;

³⁶ Who, then, of these three seems to you to have become a neighbor to the one having fallen among the robbers? ³⁷ And he said, The one doing the deed of mercy with him. Then Jesus said to him, Go, and you do likewise.

²⁰ Then "if your enemy hungers, feed him; if he thirsts, give him drink; for doing this you will heap coals of fire on his head." Prov. 25:21, 22 ²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome the evil with good.
