¹ ln his days Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim was a servant to him three years; and he turned and rebelled against him. ² And Jehovah sent against him the troops of the Chaldeans, and the troops of Syria, and the troops of Moab, and the troops of the Ammonites; and He sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of Jehovah that He spoke by the hand of His servants the prophets. ³ Only, at the mouth of Jehovah, this came upon Judah, to remove them from His presence for the sins of Manasseh, according to all he did, ⁴ and also the innocent blood that he shed; for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and Jehovah was not willing to forgive. ⁵ And the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Matters of the Days of the Kings of Judah? ⁶ And Jehoiakim lay with his fathers. And his son Jehoiachin reigned in his place. ⁷ And the king of Egypt did not come again out of his land; for the king of Babylon had taken from the river of Egypt to the Euphrates River, all owned by the king of Egypt. ⁸ Jehoiachin was a son of eighteen years when he began to reign and he reigned in Jerusalem three months; and the name of his mother was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem. ⁹ And he did the evil in the eyes of Jehovah according to all that his fathers did. ¹⁰ At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and the city came under siege. ¹¹ And Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon came against the city, and his servants lay siege to it. ¹² And Jehoiachin the king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon, he and his mother, and his servants, and his leaders, and his eunuchs. And the king of Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign. ¹³ And he brought out from there all the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and the treasures of the house of the king, and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold that Solomon the king of Israel had made in the temple of Jehovah, as Jehovah had spoken. ¹⁴ And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the leaders, and all the mighty men of valor, even ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and the smiths; none remained except the poorest sort of the people of the land. ¹⁵ And he exiled Jehoiachin to Babylon, and the king's mother, and the king's wives, and his eunuchs, and the mighty ones of the land; he caused a captivity to go from Jerusalem to Babylon. ¹⁶ And all the men of valor were seven thousand, and the craftsmen and the smiths a thousand; all were mighty men, warriors; and the king of Babylon brought them in a captivity to Babylon. ¹⁷ And the king of Babylon made Mattaniah, the brother of his father, to reign in his place, and turned his name into Zedekiah. ¹⁸ Zedekiah was a son of twenty one years when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years; and the name of his mother was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. ¹⁹ And he did evil in the eyes of Jehovah according to all that Jehoiakim did. ²⁰ For through the anger of Jehovah it happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until He had cast them out from His face, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

⁵ And the king of Assyria went up into all the land, and he went up to Samaria and besieged it three years.

⁶ Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon came up against him, and bound him in bronze fetters to take him away to Babylon. ⁷ And Nebuchadnezzar brought some of the vessels of the house of Jehovah to Babylon, and put them in his temple in Babylon. ⁸ And the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and his evil deeds that he did, and that which was found against him, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah. And his son Jehoiachin reigned in his place. ⁹ Jehoiachin was a son of eight years when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months and ten days; and he did the evil in the eyes of Jehovah. ¹⁰ And at the turn of the year, king Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon, with the valuable vessels of the house of Jehovah, and made his kinsman Zedekiah king over Judah and Jerusalem. ¹¹ Zedekiah was a son of twenty one years when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. ¹² And he did the evil in the eyes of Jehovah his God; he was not humbled before Jeremiah the prophet, from the mouth of Jehovah. ¹³ And also he rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God; and he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart from turning to Jehovah the God of Israel. ¹⁴ Also, all the heads of the priests, and the people were continually acting treacherously according to all the abominable idols of the nations; and they defiled the house of Jehovah that He had sanctified in Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And Jehovah, the God of their fathers, sent to them by the hand of His messengers, rising early and sending, for He had pity on his people and on His dwelling place. ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets until the wrath of Jehovah went up against His people, until there was no healing. ¹⁷ And He caused the king of the Chaldeans to go up against them; and he killed their choice ones by the sword in the house of their holy place, and had no pity on the young man and the virgin, the old man and the very aged; He gave all into his hand. ¹⁸ And all the vessels of the house of God, the large and the small, and treasures of the house of Jehovah, and the treasures of the king and his leaders, he brought all to Babylon. ¹⁹ And they burned the house of God, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem; and they burned all its palaces with fire, and destroyed all its beautiful vessels. ²⁰ And he removed to Babylon those who were left of the sword; and they were slaves to him and to his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia; ²¹ in order to fulfill the word of Jehovah in the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed its sabbaths; all the days of the desolation it kept the sabbath, to the full measure of seventy years.

¹ The word that was to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah. It was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.

⁹ behold! I will send and take all the families of the north, says Jehovah, and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant; and I will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations all around. And I will completely destroy them, and make them a horror, and a hissing, and everlasting ruins.

² against Egypt, against the army of Pharaoh-necho, king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebu-chadnezzar, the king of Babylon, struck in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, king of Judah:

¹ In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.

⁴⁹ Jehovah shall raise a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flies; a nation whose tongue you will not understand, ⁵⁰ a nation fierce of face, who will not regard the person of the aged, nor show favor to the young.

²³ And he prepared a great banquet for them, and they ate and drank. And he sent them away, and they went to their master. And the companies of Syria did not come into the land of Israel any more.

²⁰ And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of Moab came into the land, at the beginning of the year; ²¹ and it happened, they were burying a man; and, behold, they saw the band, and threw the man into the grave of Elisha. And the man fell and touched the bones of Elisha, and came alive, and rose on his feet.

¹⁷ Behold, the days are coming when all that is in your house, and all that your fathers have treasured up until this day, shall be carried to Babylon; there shall not a thing be left, says Jehovah.

¹² therefore so says Jehovah, the God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing evil on Jerusalem and Judah, so that whoever hears of it, his two ears shall tingle. ¹³ And I will stretch out over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab, and shall wipe Jerusalem as one wipes a dish (he wipes and turns it on its face). ¹⁴ And I will forsake the remnant of My inheritance, and give them into the hand of their enemies; and they shall be for a prey and for a spoil to all their enemies,

²⁷ And Jehovah said, I will also turn away Judah from My face, as I turned away Israel, and I will reject this city that I have chosen, Jerusalem, and the house of which I have said, My name shall be there.

¹¹ And Jehovah brought against them the king of Assyria's army commanders, and they captured Manasseh with hooks, and bound him with bronze fetters, and made him go to Babylon.

¹⁷ While this one was still speaking, this other also came and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands and swooped down on the camels. And they have taken them away. And they have killed the young men with the edge of the sword; and I, I alone have escaped to tell you.

¹¹ Then I said, Until when, O Lord? And He said, Until cities lie desolate without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land is laid waste, a desolation; ¹² and until Jehovah has sent mankind far away, and the desolation in the midst of the land is great.

¹⁷ Jehovah shall bring the king of Assyria on you, and on your people, and on your father's house, days which have not come since the days Ephraim turned aside from Judah.

⁵ They come from a distant land, from the end of the heavens, Jehovah and the weapons of His wrath, to destroy all the land.

⁶ then I will make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

²⁰ And there was also a man who prophesied in the name of Jehovah, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to the words of Jeremiah.

²⁸ So Jehovah says this: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and he shall take it.

¹¹ But it happened when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against the land, then we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem, because of the army of the Chaldeans and because of the army of the Syrians. And we live in Jerusalem.

⁸ Then the nations set against him on every side from the provinces, and they spread their net over him; he was taken in their pit.

¹² Therefore, on account of you, Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house into high places of the forest.

²⁰ And you, you intended evil against me, but God meant it for good, in order to make it as it is this day, to keep a great many people alive.

⁵ you shall not bow to them, and you shall not serve them; for I am Jehovah your God, a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of fathers on sons, on the third and on the fourth generation, to those that hate Me;

³³ And I will scatter you among nations, and shall draw out the sword after you, and your land shall become a waste, and your cities shall be a desolation. ³⁴ Then the land shall enjoy its sabbaths, all the days of the desolation. And you shall be in the land of your enemies; then the land shall enjoy rest, and shall enjoy its sabbaths. ³⁵ It shall rest all the days of the desolation, that which it has not rested in your sabbaths while you lived on it.

²⁶ I call the heavens and the earth to witness against you today that you shall soon utterly perish from off the land to which you go over the Jordan to possess it; you shall not prolong your days on it, but shall utterly be destroyed. ²⁷ And Jehovah shall scatter you among the peoples, and you shall be left few in number among the nations to which Jehovah shall lead you away.

⁶³ And it shall be, as Jehovah rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you, so Jehovah shall rejoice over you to destroy you, and to lay you waste. And you shall be plucked from the land you are going to possess.

²⁸ And Jehovah rooted them out of their land in anger and wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it this day.

¹⁵ And it shall be, as every good thing which Jehovah your God has spoken to you comes to you, so shall Jehovah bring on you every evil thing, until He destroys you from off this good land which Jehovah your God has given to you,

²⁵ Now, have I come up against this place to destroy it without Jehovah? Jehovah said to me, Go up against this land, and you shall destroy it.

² And he did the evil in the eyes of Jehovah, according to the idolatries of the nations that Jehovah expelled from before the sons of Israel. ³ And he built again the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed, and raised up altars for Baal, and made a shrine, as did Ahab the king of Israel, and worshiped all the host of the heavens, and served them. ⁴ And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, of which Jehovah had said, In Jerusalem I will put My name. ⁵ And he built altars for all the host of the heavens in the two courts of Jehovah's house. ⁶ And he made his son to pass through the fire, used magic, and used divination, and dealt with mediums and soothsayers. He expanded to work the evil in the eyes of Jehovah, to provoke Him to anger. ⁷ And he set a graven image of the Asherah that he made in the house of which Jehovah had said to David and to his son Solomon, In this house, and in Jerusalem, that I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever. ⁸ And I will not again make the feet of Israel wander any more out of the land which I gave their fathers; only if they observe to do all that I commanded them, and to all the law that My servant Moses commanded them. ⁹ But they did not listen, and Manasseh caused them to do evil above the nations that Jehovah had destroyed from before the sons of Israel. ¹⁰ And Jehovah spoke by His servants the prophets, saying, ¹¹ Because Manasseh the king of Judah has done these abominations, doing more wickedly than all that the Amorites did before him, and has made Judah also to sin with his idols,

²⁶ However, Jehovah did not turn away from the fury of His great anger with which His anger glowed against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked Him. ²⁷ And Jehovah said, I will also turn away Judah from My face, as I turned away Israel, and I will reject this city that I have chosen, Jerusalem, and the house of which I have said, My name shall be there.

²⁴ For with few men the army of Syria came in, and Jehovah gave a mighty force for multitude into their hand, because they had forsaken Jehovah, the God of their fathers. And they executed judgment against Joash.

¹⁶ And it happened, as he spoke with him, that he said to him, Have we appointed you a counselor to the king? Stop! Why should they strike you? And the prophet stopped, and said, I know that God has counseled to destroy you because you have done this, and have not listened to my counsel.

⁵ Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger! And My fury is the staff in their hand. ⁶ I will send him against an ungodly nation, and against the people of My wrath. I will command him to plunder, and to strip off spoil, and to trample them like the mud of the streets.

⁷ forming light, and creating darkness; making peace, and creating evil.

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning, and from the past those things which were not done, saying, My purpose shall rise; and, I will do all My desire; ¹¹ calling a bird of prey from the sunrise, the man of My counsel from a far off land. Yes, I have spoken; yes, I will cause it to come; I have formed; yes, I will do it.

¹ Then Jehovah said to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before Me, My soul could not be toward this people. Send them out from before My face; yea, let them go out. ² And it will be, if they say to you, Where shall we go? Then you will tell them, So says Jehovah, Those who are for death, go to death; and those for the sword, to the sword; and those for the famine, to the famine; and those for the captivity, to the captivity. ³ And I will set over them four kinds, says Jehovah: the sword to kill, and the dogs to drag off, and the birds of the heaven and the beast of the earth to devour and destroy. ⁴ And I will make them a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh, the son of Hezekiah, king of Judah; for what he did in Jerusalem.

⁶ If a ram's horn is blowing in a city, will the people not also tremble? If there is a calamity in a city, has Jehovah not even done it ?

¹⁰ Rise up and go! For because of destroying uncleanness, even a grievous destruction, this is not your rest.

³³ And you shall not pollute the land in which you are, for blood pollutes the land. And no ransom is to be taken for the land for blood which is shed in it, except for the blood of him who sheds it;

¹⁰ And innocent blood shall not be shed in the midst of your land, which Jehovah your God is giving to you as an inheritance, and there be blood on you.

¹⁶ And also Manasseh has shed very much innocent blood, till he has filled Jerusalem from mouth to mouth; apart from his sin that he caused Judah to sin, to do evil in the eyes of Jehovah.

³⁸ and they shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. And the land was defiled with the blood.

³⁴ Also on your skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents; you did not find them breaking in, but on all these.

¹ Then Jehovah said to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before Me, My soul could not be toward this people. Send them out from before My face; yea, let them go out. ² And it will be, if they say to you, Where shall we go? Then you will tell them, So says Jehovah, Those who are for death, go to death; and those for the sword, to the sword; and those for the famine, to the famine; and those for the captivity, to the captivity.

⁴ Because they have forsaken Me, and have made this place known, and have burned incense in it to other gods whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents.

⁴² We have transgressed and rebelled; You, You have not forgiven.

²⁵ So say to them, So says the Lord Jehovah: You eat on the blood, and you lift your eyes up to your idols, and you shed blood. And shall you possess the land?

⁸ And the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and his evil deeds that he did, and that which was found against him, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah. And his son Jehoiachin reigned in his place.

¹³ Woe to him who builds his house without righteousness, and his upper rooms without justice. His neighbor serves without pay, and he does not give him his work; ¹⁴ who says, I will build myself a wide house and large upper rooms. And he cuts out windows for it and covers with cedar, and paints with vermilion. ¹⁵ Do you reign because you lust to excel in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well for him. ¹⁶ He judged the cause of the poor and needy, then it was well. Was this not to know Me, says Jehovah? ¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart lust for nothing but your unjust gain, and to shed innocent blood, and oppression, and to do violence.

¹ In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came from Jehovah, saying, ² So says Jehovah, Stand in the court of the house of Jehovah and speak to all the cities of Judah which come to worship in the house of Jehovah, all the words that I command you to speak to them. Do not keep back a word. ³ It may be that they will listen, and each man turn from his evil way, that I may repent of the evil which I plan to do to them because of the evil of their doings. ⁴ And you shall say to them, So says Jehovah, If you will not listen to Me, to walk in My law which I have set before you, ⁵ to listen to the words of My servants the prophets whom I am sending to you, even rising up early and sending (but you have not listened), ⁶ then I will make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth. ⁷ And the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of Jehovah. ⁸ And it happened when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that Jehovah had commanded him to speak to all the people, the priests and the prophets and all the people seized him, saying, You shall surely die. ⁹ Why have you prophesied in the name of Jehovah, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be wasted, without inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah. ¹⁰ When the rulers of Judah heard these things, then they came up from the king's house to the house of Jehovah and sat down in the entrance of the New Gate of Jehovah. ¹¹ And the priests and the prophets spoke to the rulers, and to all the people, saying, Let a death sentence be for this man, for he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears. ¹² Then Jeremiah spoke to all the rulers and to all the people, saying, Jehovah sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard. ¹³ So now make good your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of Jehovah your God, and Jehovah will repent toward the evil that He has spoken against you. ¹⁴ As for me, behold, I am in your hands; do with me as seems good and right to you. ¹⁵ But know for certain that if you put me to death, you shall surely bring innocent blood on yourselves, and on this city, and on its inhabitants. For truly Jehovah has sent me to you, to speak all these words in your ears. ¹⁶ Then the rulers, and all the people, said to the priests and to the prophets, There is not a sentence of death for this man, for he has spoken to us in the name of Jehovah our God. ¹⁷ Then some of the elders of the land rose up and spoke to all the assembly of the people, saying, ¹⁸ Micah of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah, king of Judah. And he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, So says Jehovah of Hosts: Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house like the high places of a forest. ¹⁹ Did Hezekiah, king of Judah and all Judah indeed put him to death? Did he not fear Jehovah and entreat the face of Jehovah? And did not Jehovah repent of the evil which He had spoken against them? So we are doing great evil against our souls. ²⁰ And there was also a man who prophesied in the name of Jehovah, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to the words of Jeremiah. ²¹ And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the rulers, heard his words, the king tried to put him to death. But Urijah heard, and he was afraid, and fled, and went to Egypt. ²² And Jehoiakim the king sent men to Egypt, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and men with him into Egypt. ²³ And they brought Urijah out of Egypt and brought him to Jehoiakim the king, who struck him with the sword, and threw his dead body into the graves of the sons of the people. ²⁴ But the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

⁶ Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon came up against him, and bound him in bronze fetters to take him away to Babylon.

¹⁸ So Jehovah says this concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, They shall not mourn for him, saying, Ah, my brother! Or, Ah, sister! They shall not mourn for him, saying, Ah, lord! Or, Ah, his glory! ¹⁹ He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, drawn beyond the gates of Jerusalem and thrown out.

³⁰ Therefore, so says Jehovah of Jehoiakim, king of Judah: There shall not be one to him to sit on the throne of David, and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.

¹⁸ On that day Jehovah made a covenant with Abram, saying, I have given this land to your seed, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates,

⁵ And the border shall turn from Azmon to the torrent of Egypt, and its border shall be at the sea.

⁴ and passed on to Azmon, and went out by the torrent of Egypt; and the boundary line was at the sea. This shall be your south border.

²¹ And Solomon reigned over all the kingdoms from the River to the land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt. They brought presents and served Solomon all the days of his life.

¹² And it shall be in that day, Jehovah shall thresh from the channel of the River to the torrent of Egypt; and you shall be gathered one by one, sons of Israel.

⁵ And Pharaoh's army had come forth out of Egypt. And when the Chaldeans who besieged Jerusalem heard news of them, they departed from Jerusalem. ⁶ And the word of Jehovah was to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, ⁷ So says Jehovah, the God of Israel, You shall say this to the king of Judah who sent you to Me to inquire of Me: Behold, Pharaoh's army, which has come out to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.

¹⁶ And the sons of Jehoiakim were his son Jeconiah, and his son Zedekiah.

⁹ Jehoiachin was a son of eight years when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months and ten days; and he did the evil in the eyes of Jehovah.

²⁴ As I live, says Jehovah, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah were the signet on My right hand, yet I would tear you out of there!

²⁸ Is this man Coniah a despised, broken jar, or a vessel in which is no pleasure? Why are they hurled, he and his seed, and are cast into the land which they do not know?

¹ Jehovah made me see, and, behold, two baskets of figs set before the temple of Jehovah, after Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had exiled Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and the rulers of Judah, and the craftsmen, and the smiths from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.

¹ And king Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, made king in the land of Judah.

¹¹ and Josiah fathered Jehoiachin and his brothers, at the deportation of Babylon. ¹² And after the deportation of Babylon, Jehoiachin fathered Shealtiel, and Shealtiel fathered Zerubbabel,

² And the city entered into siege until the eleventh year of king Zedekiah,

¹ In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. ² And the Lord gave Jehoiakim, king of Judah, into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God, which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god. And he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

²⁷ And it happened in the thirty seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin the king of Judah, in the twelfth month, in the twenty seventh of the month, Evil-merodach the king of Babylon, in the year he began to reign, lifted up the head of Jehoiachin the king of Judah out of the prison,

¹⁰ And at the turn of the year, king Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon, with the valuable vessels of the house of Jehovah, and made his kinsman Zedekiah king over Judah and Jerusalem.

²⁴ As I live, says Jehovah, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah were the signet on My right hand, yet I would tear you out of there! ²⁵ And I will give you into the hand of those who seek your life, and into the hand of those whose face you fear, even into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans. ²⁶ And I will cast you and your mother who bore you into another country, there where you were not born; and there you shall die. ²⁷ But concerning the land which they lift up with their soul, to return there, they shall not return there. ²⁸ Is this man Coniah a despised, broken jar, or a vessel in which is no pleasure? Why are they hurled, he and his seed, and are cast into the land which they do not know? ²⁹ O earth, earth, earth! Hear the word of Jehovah! ³⁰ So says Jehovah, Write this man childless, a man who will not prosper in his days. For not one from his seed will succeed, a man sitting on the throne of David and ruling any more in Judah.

¹ And these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the rest of the elders of the exile, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had exiled from Jerusalem to Babylon ² after Jeconiah the king, and the queen mother, and the eunuchs, the rulers of Judah and Jerusalem, and the craftsmen, and the smiths, had gone out from Jerusalem.

¹⁷ And Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, So says Jehovah, the God of Hosts, the God of Israel: If going out you will go out to the rulers of the king of Babylon, then your soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire. And you and your house shall live. ¹⁸ But if you will not go out to the rulers of the king of Babylon, even this city shall be given into the hands of the Chaldeans, and they will burn it with fire. And you shall not escape out of their hand.

²⁸ This is the people whom Nebu-chadnezzar exiled: In the seventh year, three thousand and twenty three Jews;

³¹ And it happened in the thirty seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin, king of Judah, in the twelfth month, in the twenty fifth of the month, Evil-merodach, king of Babylon, in the year of his reign lifted up the head of Jehoiachin, king of Judah, and brought him from the prison house.

¹² Say now to the rebellious house, Do you not know what these mean ? But speak, Behold, the king of Babylon has come to Jerusalem, and has taken its king and its rulers, and has brought them to himself at Babylon.

⁴⁸ And Solomon made all the vessels that were in the house of Jehovah: the altar of gold; and the table of gold on which was the Bread of the Presence; ⁴⁹ and the lampstands, five on the right and five on the left before the Holy of Holies, of refined gold, and the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs were of gold; ⁵⁰ and the basins, and the snuffers, and the bowls, and the spoons, and the firepans were of refined gold; and the hinges for the doors of the inner house, for the Holy of Holies, for the doors of the house of the temple were of gold.

¹³ And the bronze pillars in the house of Jehovah, and the bases, and the bronze sea in the house of Jehovah, the Chaldeans broke in pieces and lifted up their bronze to Babylon. ¹⁴ And they took the pots, and the shovels, and the snuffers, and the spoons, and all the vessels of bronze with which they ministered. ¹⁵ And the chief of the executioners took the firepans, and the sprinkling basins, all of gold and silver.

⁷ And he made ten lampstands of gold, according to their ordinance, and placed them in the temple, five on the right, and five on the left. ⁸ He also made ten tables, and placed them in the temple, five on the right, and five on the left; and he made a hundred basins of gold. ⁹ And he made the court of the priests, and the great court, and doors for the court; and he overlaid their doors with bronze. ¹⁰ And he placed the sea on the right side eastward, across from the south. ¹¹ And Hiram made the pots, and the shovels, and the basins. And Hiram finished the work that he was to make for king Solomon in the house of God: ¹² the two pillars, and the bowls, and the capitals on the top of the two pillars, and the two net-works to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the tops of the pillars; ¹³ and the pomegranates (four hundred to the two net-works, two rows of pomegranates to the one net-work) to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the face of the pillars. ¹⁴ He also made the bases; and he made lavers on the bases; ¹⁵ the one sea, and twelve oxen under it, ¹⁶ and the pots, and the shovels, and the forks, and all their vessels did his master Hiram make for king Solomon for the house of Jehovah, of burnished bronze. ¹⁷ In the plain of Jordan the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zeredathah. ¹⁸ And Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance, so that the weight of the bronze could not be searched out. ¹⁹ And Solomon made all the vessels that were for the house of God, and the golden altar, and the tables on which the Bread of the Presence rested; ²⁰ and the lampstands, and their lamps, for their burning was according to the ordinance, before the holy place, of refined gold; ²¹ and the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs of gold (it was perfect gold). ²² and the snuffers, and the bowls, and the spoons, and the firepans, of pure gold; and the entrance to the house, its innermost doors to the Holy of Holies, and the doors of the house to the temple, of gold.

⁷ Also Cyrus the king brought forth the vessels of the house of Jehovah, which Nebuchadnezzar had brought out of Jerusalem and had put them in the house of his gods. ⁸ Even those Cyrus king of Persia brought forth by the hand of Mithredath the treasurer, and numbered them to Sheshbazzar, the prince of Judah. ⁹ And this is the number of them: thirty platters of gold, a thousand platters of silver, twenty one knives, ¹⁰ thirty basins of gold, four hundred and ten silver basins of a second kind, a thousand other vessels. ¹¹ All the vessels of gold and of silver (five thousand and four hundred) Sheshbazzar made to go up all when the exiled were caused to go up from Babylon to Jerusalem.

⁶ Behold, days come when all that is in your house, even what your fathers have treasured up until now, shall be carried to Babylon; nothing shall be left, says Jehovah.

⁵ And I will give all the wealth of this city, and all its produce, and all its precious things, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah, even I will give them into the hand of their enemies who will strip them and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

¹⁶ Also I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, So says Jehovah, Do not listen to the words of your prophets who prophesy to you, saying, Behold, the vessels of the house of Jehovah shall now be quickly brought again from Babylon. For they prophesy a lie to you. ¹⁷ Do not listen to them. Serve the king of Babylon and live. Why should this city be a waste? ¹⁸ But if they are prophets, and if the word of Jehovah is with them, let them now intercede with Jehovah of Hosts that the vessels which are left in the house of Jehovah, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, may not go to Babylon ¹⁹ For so says Jehovah of Hosts concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the rest of the vessels which remain in this city, ²⁰ which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take when he exiled Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem. ²¹ For so says Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that remain in the house of Jehovah, and the house of the king of Judah, and Jerusalem:

³ Within two years I will again bring into this place all the vessels of the house of Jehovah which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place and carried them to Babylon. ⁴ And I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, with all the exiles of Judah who went into Babylon, says Jehovah. For I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.

⁶ even the prophet Jeremiah said, Amen! May Jehovah do so; may Jehovah confirm your words which you have prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the house of Jehovah, and all the exiles, from Babylon into this place.

² When tasting the wine, Belshazzar commanded the golden and silver vessels brought, those his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple in Jerusalem, that the king and his nobles, his wives, and his concubines might drink with them. ³ Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God in Jerusalem. And the king, his nobles, his wives, and his concubines drank with them.

¹⁹ And the men of Ziph went to Saul, to Gibeah, saying, Is not David hiding himself with us in strongholds, in the forest, in the hill of Hachilah, which is south of the wilderness? ²⁰ And now, come down according to all the desires of your soul, O king. Come down, and our duty is to deliver him up into the king's hand. ²¹ And Saul said, You are blessed of Jehovah, for you have had pity on me. ²² Please go, make yet more sure, and know, and see his place where his foot is; who has seen him there, for one has said to me, He is very subtle.

¹⁶ And all the men of valor were seven thousand, and the craftsmen and the smiths a thousand; all were mighty men, warriors; and the king of Babylon brought them in a captivity to Babylon.

¹² But the chief of the executioners left of the poorest of the land for vinedressers and farmers.

⁹ Jehoiachin was a son of eight years when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months and ten days; and he did the evil in the eyes of Jehovah. ¹⁰ And at the turn of the year, king Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon, with the valuable vessels of the house of Jehovah, and made his kinsman Zedekiah king over Judah and Jerusalem.

¹ Jehovah made me see, and, behold, two baskets of figs set before the temple of Jehovah, after Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had exiled Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and the rulers of Judah, and the craftsmen, and the smiths from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon. ² One basket had very good figs, like first ripe figs. And the other basket had very bad figs which could not be eaten from their badness. ³ And Jehovah said to me, What do you see, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs. The good figs are very good, and the bad are very bad, so that they cannot be eaten from their badness. ⁴ Again the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ⁵ So says Jehovah, the God of Israel, Like these good figs, so I will acknowledge the exiles of Judah whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for good.

¹⁰ But Nebu-zaradan, the chief of the executioners, left some of the poor people, who had not a thing to themselves, in the land of Judah. And he gave to them vineyards and fields on that day.

⁷ And when all the commanders of the army who were in the field, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, over the land, and had appointed with him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of those who were not exiled to Babylon,

¹⁶ But Nebu-zaradan, the chief of the executioners, left some of the poor of the land for vinedressers and for farmers.

¹ And it happened in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth of the month, as I was among the captives by the river Chebar, the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God. ² On the fifth of the month, the fifth year of the captivity of Jehoiachin the king,

¹⁴ that the kingdom might be low, that it might not lift itself up to keep its covenant, that it might stand.

⁸ Jehoiachin was a son of eighteen years when he began to reign and he reigned in Jerusalem three months; and the name of his mother was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.

⁶ Who had been stripped from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been led away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had exiled.

¹⁴ And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the leaders, and all the mighty men of valor, even ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and the smiths; none remained except the poorest sort of the people of the land.

³⁴ And Pharaoh-necho made Eliakim the son of Josiah to reign instead of Josiah his father, and turned his name into Jehoiakim; and he took away Jehoahaz, and he came to Egypt and died there.

¹⁵ And the sons of Josiah were the first-born Johanan; the second, Jehoiakim; the third, Zedekiah; the fourth, Shallum. ¹⁶ And the sons of Jehoiakim were his son Jeconiah, and his son Zedekiah.

⁴ And the king of Egypt made his brother Eliakim king over Judah and Jerusalem, and turned about his name to Jehoiakim; and Necho took his brother Jehoahaz and brought him to Egypt.

³¹ Jehoahaz was a son of twenty three years when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem; and the name of his mother was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

And the name of his mother was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. ² And he did evil in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that Jehoiakim had done. ³ For it was because of the anger of Jehovah in Jerusalem and Judah that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon, until Jehovah had cast them out from His face. ⁴ And in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, king Nebu-chadnezzar of Babylon came, he and all his army against Jerusalem, and pitched against it, and built a siege wall against it all around. ⁵ And the city came under siege until the eleventh year of king Zedekiah. ⁶ And in the fourth month, in the ninth of the month, the famine was severe in the city, so that there was no food for the people of the land. ⁷ Then the city was breached, and all the men of war fled, and went out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king's garden. And the Chaldeans lay all around the city. And they went by the way of the Arabah. ⁸ But the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king and overtook Zedekiah in the Arabah of Jericho. And all his army was scattered from him. ⁹ And they took the king and carried him up to the king of Babylon, to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he gave judgments against him. ¹⁰ And the king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes. He also slaughtered all the rulers of Judah in Riblah. ¹¹ And he blinded the eyes of Zedekiah. And the king of Babylon bound him in bronze fetters and carried him to Babylon. And he put him in prison until the day of his death.

³⁷ And he did the evil in the eyes of Jehovah according to all that his fathers did.

¹² And he did the evil in the eyes of Jehovah his God; he was not humbled before Jeremiah the prophet, from the mouth of Jehovah.

⁸ And like the bad figs which cannot be eaten from badness, so says Jehovah: So I shall make Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his rulers, and the remnant of Jerusalem who remain in this land, and those who dwell in the land of Egypt;

¹ And king Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, made king in the land of Judah. ² But not he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, listened to the words of Jehovah which He spoke by Jeremiah the prophet. ³ And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal, the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah, the son of Maaseiah the priest, to Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Pray now for us to Jehovah our God. ⁴ And Jeremiah came in and went out among the people, for they had not put him into prison. ⁵ And Pharaoh's army had come forth out of Egypt. And when the Chaldeans who besieged Jerusalem heard news of them, they departed from Jerusalem. ⁶ And the word of Jehovah was to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, ⁷ So says Jehovah, the God of Israel, You shall say this to the king of Judah who sent you to Me to inquire of Me: Behold, Pharaoh's army, which has come out to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land. ⁸ And the Chaldeans shall come again and fight against this city, and they will capture it and burn it with fire. ⁹ So says Jehovah, Do not deceive yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans will surely leave us, for they shall not leave. ¹⁰ For though you had stricken the entire army of the Chaldeans who fight against you, and only wounded men remained among them, yet they would rise up, each man in his tent, and burn this city with fire. ¹¹ And it happened, when the army of the Chaldeans departed from Jerusalem because of Pharaoh's army, ¹² then Jeremiah went out of Jerusalem, to go into the land of Benjamin to receive a portion from there in the midst of the people. ¹³ And it happened, he being in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard was there, and his name was Irijah the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah. And he seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying, You are falling to the Chaldeans. ¹⁴ And Jeremiah said, A lie! I am not falling to the Chaldeans. But he did not listen to him. And Irijah took Jeremiah and brought him to the rulers. ¹⁵ And the rulers were angry with Jeremiah and struck him, and they put him in the house of binding, the house of Jonathan the scribe. For they had made it into a prison house. ¹⁶ When Jeremiah had gone into the house of the pit, and into the cells, then Jeremiah remained there many days. ¹⁷ And Zedekiah the king sent and took him out. And the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there word from Jehovah? And Jeremiah said, There is. For He said, You shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon. ¹⁸ And Jeremiah said to king Zedekiah, What have I sinned against you, or against your servants, or against this people, that you have put me into the prison house? ¹⁹ Where now are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, or against this land? ²⁰ And now hear, I beg you, O my lord the king, please let my plea fall before you, so that you do not make me return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, that I not die there. ²¹ And Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the guardhouse, and that they should give him a piece of bread out of the baker's street daily, until all the bread of the city was gone. And Jeremiah remained in the court of the guardhouse.

²⁵ And you, O slain, wicked prince of Israel, of whom has come his day in the time of iniquity of the end,

¹⁴ For at this time I am going to send all My plagues to your heart, and on your servants, and on your people, so that you may know that none is like Me in all the land. ¹⁵ For now I have sent forth My hand and have stricken you and your people with pestilence, and you have been destroyed from the earth. ¹⁶ And for this reason I have made you stand, in order to cause you to see My power, and in order to declare My name in all the land. ¹⁷ You still are exalting yourself against My people, so as not to send them away.

³⁰ And Sihon the king of Heshbon was not willing to let us pass by him, for Jehovah your God had hardened his spirit, and had emboldened his heart, so as to give him into your hand, as it is this day.

²⁷ And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against this land to bring on it all the curses that are written in this book.

¹⁷ because they have forsaken Me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore My wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.

¹³ And also he rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God; and he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart from turning to Jehovah the God of Israel.

¹¹ Surely the rulers of Zoan are fools; the advice of Pharaoh's wise counselors has become stupid. How can you say to Pharaoh, I am the son of wise ones, the son of kings of old? ¹² Where are your wise ones now? Yea, let them tell you now, that they may know what Jehovah of Hosts has planned against Egypt. ¹³ The rulers of Zoan are fools; the rulers of Noph are deceived; they also have led Egypt astray, the cornerstone of her tribes. ¹⁴ Jehovah has mixed a perverse spirit in her midst; and they led astray Egypt in all his work; as a drunkard strays in his vomit.

¹² I also spoke to Zedekiah, king of Judah according to all these words, saying, Bring your necks into the king of Babylon's yoke, and serve him and his people, and live. ¹³ Why will you die, you and your people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the plague, as Jehovah has spoken against the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon? ¹⁴ So then do not listen to the words of the prophets who speak to you, saying, You shall not serve the king of Babylon, for they prophesy a lie to you. ¹⁵ For I have not sent them, says Jehovah. Yet they prophesy a lie in My name, so that I might drive you out, and that you might perish, you and the prophets who prophesy to you.

¹⁷ And Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, So says Jehovah, the God of Hosts, the God of Israel: If going out you will go out to the rulers of the king of Babylon, then your soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire. And you and your house shall live. ¹⁸ But if you will not go out to the rulers of the king of Babylon, even this city shall be given into the hands of the Chaldeans, and they will burn it with fire. And you shall not escape out of their hand. ¹⁹ And Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews who have fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me to their hand and they abuse me. ²⁰ And Jeremiah said, They will not give. Please obey the voice of Jehovah which I am speaking to you, and it will be well with you and your soul will live. ²¹ But if you refuse to go out, this is the word Jehovah has made me see:

¹⁵ But he rebelled against him in sending his messengers to Egypt, to give horses and many people to him. Shall he prosper? Shall he who does these things escape? Or shall he break the covenant and be delivered? ¹⁶ As I live, declares the Lord Jehovah, Surely, in the place of the king who made him king, whose oath he despised and whose covenant he broke, there he shall die with him in the midst of Babylon. ¹⁷ And Pharaoh shall not work for him with great army or great company in the war by pouring out mounds and building siege walls to cut off many souls. ¹⁸ And he has despised the oath by breaking the covenant. And, behold, he had given his hand, and he has done all these things. ¹⁹ So the Lord Jehovah says this: As I live, surely My oath that he has despised, and My covenant that he has broken, I will even give it on his head. ²⁰ And I will spread My net over him, and he shall be taken in My snare. And I will bring him to Babylon. And I will judge him there with his treason which he has betrayed against Me.

²⁰ Where is the wise? Where the scribe? Where the lawyer of this world? Did God not make the wisdom of this world foolish?

⁹ His coming is according to the working of Satan in all power and miracles and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and in all deceit of unrighteousness in those being lost, because they did not receive the love of the truth in order for them to be saved. ¹¹ And because of this, God will send to them a working of error, for them to believe the lie,
