³¹ And they come to you as people come, and they sit before you as My people. And they hear your words, but they do not do them. For they produce much love with their mouth, but their heart goes after their unjust gain.

²⁸ And Jehovah heard the voice of your words when you spoke to me. And Jehovah said to me I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken to you; they have well said all that they have spoken. ²⁹ Oh that this heart of theirs would be like this always, to fear Me, and to keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them, and with their sons forever.

³⁶ But they flattered Him with their mouths, and with their tongues lied to Him. ³⁷ For their heart was not steadfast with Him; and they were not faithful in His covenant.

¹³ Yet the word of Jehovah was to them, precept on precept, precept on precept; line on line, line on line; here a little, there a little; that they might go, and stumble, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

¹³ And the Lord says, Because this people draws near with its mouth, and they honor Me with its lip; but its heart is far from Me, and their fear of Me is taught by the command of men;

¹⁶ So says Jehovah, Stand by the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and you shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk in it . ¹⁷ Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Listen to the sound of the ram's horn. But they said, We will not listen.

³³ And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask you, saying, What is the burden of Jehovah? You shall then say to them, What burden? I will even forsake you, says Jehovah. ³⁴ And the prophet, and the priest, and the people who shall say, The burden of Jehovah, I will even punish that man and his house. ³⁵ And you shall say each one to his neighbor, and each one to his brother, What has Jehovah answered? And what has Jehovah spoken? ³⁶ And you shall not mention the burden of Jehovah again, for each man's word shall be his burden. For you have perverted the words of the living God, of Jehovah of Hosts, our God. ³⁷ So you shall say to the prophet, What has Jehovah answered you? And what has Jehovah spoken? ³⁸ But if you say, The burden of Jehovah, therefore so says Jehovah: Because you say this word, the burden of Jehovah; and I have sent to you saying, You shall not say, The burden of Jehovah;

¹ And it happened when Jeremiah had finished speaking to all the people all the words of Jehovah their God, for which Jehovah their God had sent him to them all these words, ² Azariah, the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan, the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, then spoke, saying to Jeremiah, You speak falsely. Jehovah our God has not sent you to say, Do not go to Egypt, to sojourn there. ³ But Baruch, the son of Neriah, is inciting you against us, to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they might put us to death, or exile us to Babylon. ⁴ And Johanan, the son of Kareah, and all the army commanders, and all the people, did not obey the voice of Jehovah, to live in the land of Judah. ⁵ But Johanan, the son of Kareah, and all the army commanders, took all the remnant of Judah who had returned from all the nations where they had been driven, to sojourn in the land of Judah: ⁶ men, women, and children, and the king's daughters, and every person that Nebu-zaradan, the chief of the executioners, had left with Shaphan. Also they took Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch, the son of Neriah. ⁷ And they came into the land of Egypt, for they did not obey the voice of Jehovah. And they came to Tahpanhes.

¹⁶ As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of Jehovah, we will not listen to you.

¹ And it was in the sixth year, in the sixth month, on the fifth of the month, I was sitting in my house. And the elders of Judah were sitting before me. And the hand of the Lord Jehovah fell on me there.

¹ And the men of the elders of Israel came to me and sat before me.

¹ And it was in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth of the month, men came from the elders of Israel to inquire of Jehovah, and sat before me. ² And the word of Jehovah was to me, saying, ³ Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel and say to them, So says the Lord Jehovah: Have you come to inquire of Me? As I live, declares the Lord Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you. ⁴ Will you judge them, will you judge, son of man? Cause them to know the abominations of their fathers. ⁵ And say to them, So says the Lord Jehovah: In the day I chose Israel and lifted My hand to the seed of the house of Jacob, and I was made known to them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up My hand to them, saying, I am Jehovah your God. ⁶ In that day I lifted up My hand to them to bring them out from the land of Egypt into a land flowing with milk and honey that I had searched out for them, the glory of it is to all lands. ⁷ Then I said to them, Let each man cast away the filthy idols of his eyes, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am Jehovah your God. ⁸ But they rebelled against Me and would not listen to Me. They did not each man throw away the filthy idols of their eyes, and they did not forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said, I will pour out My fury against them, to fulfill My anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. ⁹ But I worked for My name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the eyes of the nations among whom they were, for I made Myself known to them in their eyes, by bringing them out of the land of Egypt. ¹⁰ I caused them to leave from the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness. ¹¹ And I gave them My statutes, and I made them know My judgments, which if a man does them, he will even live by them. ¹² And I also gave them My sabbaths to be a sign between Me and them, that they might know that I am Jehovah who sets them apart. ¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness. They did not walk in My statutes, and they despised My judgments, which if a man does them he will even live by them. And they greatly profaned My sabbaths. Then I said, I will pour out My fury on them in the wilderness, to consume them. ¹⁴ But I worked for My name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the eyes of the nations, before whom I brought them out, in their eyes. ¹⁵ And I also lifted up My hand to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land flowing with milk and honey which I had given; it is the glory to all the lands, ¹⁶ because they despised My judgments, and they did not walk in My statutes, and they profaned My sabbaths; for their heart went after their idols. ¹⁷ And My eye spared them, from destroying them, and I did not make an end of them in the wilderness. ¹⁸ But I said to their sons in the wilderness, Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers and do not keep their judgments, and do not defile yourselves with their idols. ¹⁹ I am Jehovah your God, walk in My statutes, and keep My judgments, and do them. ²⁰ And keep My sabbaths holy, and they shall be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am Jehovah your God. ²¹ But the sons rebelled against Me. They did not walk in My statutes, and they did not keep My judgments, to do them, which if a man does them, he shall live by them. They profaned My sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out My fury on them, to fulfill My anger against them in the wilderness. ²² But I withdrew My hand and acted for My name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the eyes of the nations, from whom I brought them out in their eyes. ²³ And I lifted up My hand to them in the wilderness, to scatter them among the nations and sow them among the lands, ²⁴ because they had not done My judgments and had despised My statutes and had profaned My sabbaths. And their eyes were after their fathers' idols. ²⁵ Therefore I also gave them statutes that were not good and by which they could not live. ²⁶ And I defiled them by their own gifts, by making all that open the womb to cross the fire, so that I might waste them, to the end that they might know that I am Jehovah. ²⁷ So speak to the house of Israel, son of man, and say to them, So says the Lord Jehovah: Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed Me, by trespassing a trespass against Me. ²⁸ When I had brought them into the land for which I lifted up My hand, to give it to them, then they saw every high hill and every leafy tree; and they offered their sacrifices there. And they have their provoking offering there. They also made their soothing aroma there and poured out their drink offerings there. ²⁹ Then I said to them, What is the high place to which you go there? And its name is called High Place to this day. ³⁰ For this reason, say to the house of Israel, So says the Lord Jehovah: Are you being defiled in the way of your fathers? And do you go whoring after their filthy idols? ³¹ For when you lift up your gifts, when you pass your sons through the fire, you defile yourselves with all your idols, even to this day. And I will not be inquired of by you, O house of Israel As I live, declares the Lord Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you. ³² And what comes up on your spirit shall surely not occur, that you say, We will be like the nations, like the families of the lands, to serve wood and stone.

²⁷ Her rulers in her midst are like wolves tearing prey, to shed blood, to destroy souls, in order to gain unjust gain.

²⁴ No one is able to serve two lords; for either he will hate the one, and he will love the other; or he will cleave to the one, and he will despise the other. You are not able to serve God and wealth.

²⁴ Then everyone who hears these words from Me, and does them, I will compare him to a wise man who built his house on the rock; ²⁵ and the rains came down, and the rivers came up, and the winds blew, and fell against that house; but it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. ²⁶ And everyone who hears these words of Mine, and who does not do them, he shall be compared to a foolish man who built his house on the sand; ²⁷ and the rain came down, and the rivers came up, and the winds blew and beat against that house; and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

²² And that sown into the thorns is this: the one hearing the Word, and the anxiety of this age, and the deceit of riches, choke the Word, and it becomes unfruitful.

²² But hearing the word, being grieved, the young man went away, for he had many possessions.

⁴⁸ He is like a man building a house, who dug and deepened, and laid a foundation on the rock. And a flood having occurred, the stream burst against that house and could not shake it, for it had been founded on the rock. ⁴⁹ But he who heard and did not perform, he is like a man having built his house on the earth without a foundation, on which the stream burst, and it immediately fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

²¹ And answering, He said to them, My mother and My brothers are these: the ones hearing the Word of God, and doing it.

³⁹ And she had a sister being called Mary, who also was sitting alongside, at the feet of Jesus, and heard His word.

²⁸ But He said, No; rather, blessed are those hearing the Word of God, and keeping it.

¹⁵ And He said to them, Beware, and keep back from covetousness; for one's life is not in the abundance of the things which are his. ¹⁶ And He spoke a parable to them, saying, A certain rich man produced well from the land. ¹⁷ And he reasoned within himself, saying, What may I do, for I have nowhere I may gather my fruits? ¹⁸ And he said, I will do this; I will tear down my barns and I will build larger; and I will gather there all my produce and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take rest, eat, drink, and be glad. ²⁰ But God said to him, Fool! This night they demand your soul from you; and that which you prepared, to whom will it be? ²¹ So is he treasuring up for himself, and not being rich toward God.

¹⁴ And being lovers of money, the Pharisees also heard all these things; and they derided Him.

³³ Then at once I sent to you, and you did well to come. Now then, we are all present before God to hear all the things having been commanded you by God.

⁵ For be knowing this, that every fornicator, or unclean one, or covetous one, who is an idolater, has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

⁹ But those having purposed to be rich fall into temptation, and a snare, and many foolish and hurtful lusts, which plunge men into destruction and loss. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all evils, by means of which some having lusted after it were seduced from the faith, and they themselves pierced through by many pains.

²² But become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. ²³ Because if anyone is a hearer of the Word, and not a doer, this one is like a man studying his natural face in a mirror; ²⁴ for he studied himself, and has gone away, and immediately he forgot of what kind he was.

¹⁴ My brothers, what is the gain if anyone says he has faith, but he does not have works? Is faith able to save him? ¹⁵ But if a brother or a sister is naked and may be lacking in daily food, ¹⁶ and any one of you say to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled, but does not give them the things the body needs, what gain is it ?

¹⁷ Whoever has the means of life of the world, and sees his brother having need, and shuts up his bowels from him, how does the love of God abide in him? ¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word, or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
