² And Jacob said to his house, and to all those with him, Put away the strange gods in your midst, and purify yourselves, and change your clothing.

¹⁹ For I have known him, so that whatever he may command his sons and his house after him, even they may keep the way of Jehovah, to do righteousness and justice; to the intent that Jehovah may bring on Abraham that which He has spoken of him.

¹⁹ And Laban went to shear his sheep. And Rachel stole the household idols which were her father's.

³⁴ And Rachel had taken the household idols and put them into the camel's saddle; and she sat on them. And Laban felt around all the tent, but did not find.

² And Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her, and took her, and lay with her, and humiliated her.

²⁴ And all those going out of the gate of the city listened to Hamor, and to his son Shechem. And every male was circumcised, all those going out of the gate of the city. ²⁵ And it happened on the third day, they being pained, that the two sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, each took his sword. And they came on the city in its security, and killed every male.

²² And it happened as Israel lived in that land, it happened; even Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father's concubine And Israel heard. And the sons of Jacob were twelve.

¹⁰ And Jehovah said to Moses, Go to the people and sanctify them today and tomorrow. And let them wash their clothes.

¹⁴ And Moses went from the mountain to the people. And he sanctified the people, and they washed their clothes.

³ You shall not have any other gods beside Me. ⁴ You shall not make a graven image for yourself, or any likeness in the heavens above, or in the earth beneath, or in the waters under the earth;

¹³ And be watchful in all that I have said to you. And you shall not mention another god by name; it shall not be heard from your mouth.

⁵ And anyone who touches his bed shall wash his garments, and shall bathe with water, and shall be unclean until the evening.

¹⁶ And if he does not wash them, nor bathe his flesh, then he shall bear his iniquity.

²⁴ And you shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you shall be clean. And afterwards you shall come into the camp.

⁷ You shall have no other gods before Me.

¹⁴ You shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples who are around you,

²⁵ You shall burn the carved images of their gods with fire; and you shall not lust after the silver and gold on them, nor shall you take it to yourself, that you not be snared by it; for it is an abomination to Jehovah.

²⁸ and a curse if you will not hear the commandments of Jehovah your God, but will turn aside out of the way which I command you today, to go after other gods which you have not known.

¹⁶ With strange gods they moved Him to jealousy; and with idols they provoked Him to anger.

⁷ so as not to go in among these nations, these who are left with you; and that you do not make mention of the name of their gods, nor shall you swear, nor shall you serve them, nor shall you bow yourselves to them.

² And Joshua said to all the people, So says Jehovah the God of Israel, Your fathers have in the past lived Beyond the River (Terah the father of Abraham and father of Nahor) and they served other gods.

¹⁵ And if it seems evil in your eyes to serve Jehovah, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve, whether the gods whom your fathers served Beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovah.

²⁰ When you forsake Jehovah, and shall serve strange gods, then He will turn away and do evil to you, and consume you, after He has done good to you.

²³ and now turn away from the strange gods among you, and incline your heart to Jehovah the God of Israel.

¹⁶ And they removed the gods of the alien from among them, and served Jehovah. And His soul was grieved with the misery of Israel.

¹⁵ And she said, See, your sister-in-law has turned back to her people, and to her gods. You turn back after your sister-in-law.

³ And Samuel said to all the house of Israel, saying, If you are returning to Jehovah with all your heart, put aside the alien gods from among you, and the Ashtoreths. And prepare your heart to Jehovah, and serve Him only, and He will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.

²³ And who is like Your people, like Israel, the one nation in the earth that God went out to redeem to be a people for Himself, and to make Himself a name, and to do for You great and fearful things for Your land, before Your people which You redeemed to Yourself from Egypt, from nations and their gods?

¹⁰ And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, Go, and you shall wash seven times in the Jordan. And your flesh shall return to you, and you shall he clean.

¹² Are not Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Shall I not wash in them and he clean? And he turned and went on in fury. ¹³ And his servants came near and spoke to him, and said, My father, if the prophet had spoken a great thing to you would you not do it ? How much rather then when he says to you, Wash, and be clean?

²⁹ And nation by nation was making gods of their own, and putting them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, nation by nation in their cities where they lived.

²⁶ all gods of the peoples are nothings; yea, Jehovah has made the heavens.

⁵ And it happened, when the day of feasting had gone around, Job would send and sanctify them. And he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt sacrifices according to all their number. For Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. This Job always did.

² Wash me completely from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

⁷ Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

² I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way; O when will You come to me? I will walk in the integrity of my heart in the midst of my house. ³ I will set no wicked thing before my eyes; I have hated the work of those who turn aside; it shall not fasten upon me. ⁴ A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will not know evil. ⁵ Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, I will cut him off; I will not endure him who has high eyes and a proud heart. ⁶ My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, so that they may dwell with me; he who walks in a perfect way shall serve me. ⁷ He who works falsely shall not live inside my house; he who speaks lies shall not be established before my eyes.

¹ Guard your feet when you go to the house of God, and draw near to hear, more than to give a sacrifice, as do the fools. For they do not know that they are doing evil.

¹⁶ Wash yourselves, purify yourselves. Put away the evil of your doings from My sight; stop doing evil.

¹¹ Turn! Turn! Go out from there! Touch not the unclean! Go out of her midst, purify yourselves, bearers of the vessels of Jehovah.

⁷ Why should I pardon you for this? Your sons have forsaken Me and have sworn by No-gods. When I adjured them, they then committed adultery and gathered themselves by troops in a harlot's house.

²⁷ I have seen your adulteries and your neighings, the plot of your infidelity, your abominations on the hills, in the fields. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! Will you not be made clean? Now long will it still be ?

²⁰ Can a man make gods to himself? But they are not gods!

³¹ Cast away all your transgressions from you by which you have transgressed in them, and make for yourselves a new heart and a new spirit; for why will you die, O house of Israel?

⁷ Then I said to them, Let each man cast away the filthy idols of his eyes, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am Jehovah your God.

²⁵ Then I will sprinkle clean waters on you, and you shall be clean. I will cleanse you from all your defilement and from all your idols.

⁴ They drank wine and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, and of bronze, of iron, wood, and stone.

¹⁰ Jesus said to him, The one having been bathed has no need other than to wash the feet, but is wholly clean. And you are clean, but not all. ¹¹ For He knew the one betraying Him. For this reason He said, You are not all clean.

²⁶ And you see and hear that not only Ephesus, but almost all of Asia, persuading, this Paul perverted a huge crowd, saying that those being made by hands are not gods.

⁷ Neither be idolaters, even as some of them, as it has been written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and stood up to play." Ex. 32:6

¹⁵ And what agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what part does a believer have with an unbeliever? ¹⁶ And what agreement does a temple of God have with idols? For you are a temple of the living God, even as God said, "I will" dwell in them and "walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people." Lev. 26:12; Ezek. 37:27 ¹⁷ Because of this, "come out from among them" "and be separated," says the Lord, "and do not touch the unclean thing," and I will receive you. Isa. 52:11

¹ Then having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilements of flesh and of spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

⁸ But then, indeed, not knowing God, you served as slaves to the ones not by nature being gods.

²² let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, our hearts having been sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our body having been washed in pure water;

⁸ Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners! And purify your hearts, double minded ones!

¹ Then having laid aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil words, ² as newborn babes desire the pure soul-nourishing milk, that you may grow by it;

²³ But save others with fear, snatching them out of the fire, hating even the garment having been stained from the flesh.
