¹⁸ Let not Hezekiah persuade you, saying, Jehovah will deliver us. Have the gods of he nations delivered a man of his land from the king of Assyria's hand?

³³ Have the gods of the nations at all delivered each his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? ³⁴ Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah, that they have delivered Samaria out of my hand? ³⁵ Who among all the gods of the lands have delivered their land out of my hand, that Jehovah should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

¹² Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden in Telassar? ¹³ Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivah?

¹⁷ Truly, O Jehovah, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations, and their lands; ¹⁸ and have put their gods into the fire, for they were no gods, but the work of the hands of man, wood and stone, and have destroyed them.

¹³ Do you not know what I have done, my fathers and I, to all the people of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands at all able to deliver their land out of my hand? ¹⁴ Who among all the gods of these nations whom my fathers have devoted to destruction is he who has been able to deliver his people out of my hand, that your god may be able to deliver you out of my hand? ¹⁵ And now, do not let Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you in this way, nor believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand, from the hand of my fathers; also, surely your god shall not deliver you from my hand. ¹⁶ And again his servants spoke against Jehovah God, and against His servant Hezekiah. ¹⁷ And he had written letters to blaspheme Jehovah, the God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, As the gods of the nations of the lands have not delivered their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah shall not deliver His people from my hand.

⁴ Who say, We shall be strong by our tongue; our lips are our own; who is lord over us?

⁵ O Jehovah, Your purposes are very deep. How great are Your works! ⁶ An animal-like man does not know; a fool does not understand this. ⁷ When the wicked flourish like grass, and all the evildoers blossom, it is for them to be destroyed forever.

² Why do the nations say, Where is their God now? ³ But our God is in Heaven; He has done all that He has pleased. ⁴ Their idols are silver and gold, the work of man's hands; ⁵ they have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see; ⁶ they have ears, but they do not hear; they have a nose, but they do not smell; ⁷ their hands do not feel; their feet do not walk; they do not mutter through their throat. ⁸ The ones who make them are like them, and everyone trusting in them.

⁵ For I know that Jehovah is great, and our Lord is above all gods. ⁶ Every thing which Jehovah was pleased to do, He did, in the heavens and in the earth; and in the seas and all deep places.

¹⁵ The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of men's hands; ¹⁶ they have mouths, but they say nothing; they have eyes, but they see nothing; ¹⁷ they have ears, but they hear nothing; yea, there is no breath in their mouths. ¹⁸ Those who make them are like them, everyone who is trusting in them.

⁷ But if you say to me, We trust in Jehovah our God; is it not He whose high places and altars Hezekiah has removed? And He said to Judah and Jerusalem, You shall worship before this altar.

¹⁰ And now have I come up against this land to destroy it without Jehovah? Jehovah said to me, Go up to this land and destroy it.

¹⁵ And let not Hezekiah make you trust in Jehovah, saying, Jehovah will surely save us; this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

¹⁰ So you shall say to Hezekiah, king of Judah, saying, Do no let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the king of Assyria's hand.

¹² Have the gods of the nations saved those whom my fathers have destroyed, Gozan and Haran, and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden in Telassar? ¹³ Where is Hamath's king, and Arpad's king, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?

¹⁷ Bow down Your ear, O Jehovah, and hear. Open Your eye, O Jehovah, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib which he has sent, to reproach the living God. ¹⁸ Truly, O Jehovah, the kings of Assyria have crushed all the lands, and their land,

³ For the ordinances of the people are vanity. For one cuts a tree out of the forest with the axe, the work of the hands of the craftsman. ⁴ They adorn it with silver and with gold; they fasten them with nails and hammers, so that it will not wobble. ⁵ They are like a rounded post, and they cannot speak; they must surely be carried, because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil nor good; it is not with them.

¹⁰ But Jehovah is the true God, He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to stand His indignation. ¹¹ So you shall say to them, The gods who have not made the heavens and the earth, they shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens. ¹² It is He who made the earth by His power, who established the world by His wisdom, and who stretched out the heavens by His understanding.

¹⁵ Now if you are ready, at the time you hear the sound of the horn, the pipe, zither, the lyre, harp, and bagpipe, and all kinds of music, fall down and worship the image which I have made. But if you do not worship, in that moment you shall be thrown into the middle of a burning, fiery furnace. And who is that god who shall deliver you out of my hand?

¹⁹ Woe to him who says to the wood, Awake! To a mute stone, Rise up, it shall teach! Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, but no breath is in its midst. ²⁰ But Jehovah is in His holy temple; let all the earth be silent before Him.
