³ For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current surrounded me; all Your breakers and Your waves passed over me.

⁷ Deep calls to deep through the voice of Your waterfalls; all Your waves and Your billows have passed over me.

¹ To the chief musician. Concerning the Lilies. Of David. Save me, O God, for the waters have come in to my soul. ² I sink in deep mire, and there is no standing; I have come into deep waters where the floods overflow me.

¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, that I may not sink; let me be delivered from those who hate me, and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Let not the flood waters overflow me, nor let the deep swallow me up; and let not the pit shut its mouth on me.

⁵ free among the dead, as pierced ones lying in the grave, whom You remember no more; yea by Your hand they are cut off. ⁶ You have laid me in the lowest pit, in dark places; in the deeps. ⁷ Your fury has lain hard upon me, and You afflict me with all Your waves. Selah. ⁸ You have taken my friends away from me; You have made me a hateful thing to them; I am shut up, I will not go out.

⁵⁴ Waters flowed over on my head; I said, I am cut off.

¹² And he said to them, Take me up and throw me out into the sea. And the sea will be calm from on you. For I know that this great storm is on you on account of me. ¹³ But the men rowed to return to the dry land, but they were not able, for the sea was going on and being stormy against them. ¹⁴ And they cried out to Jehovah, and said, We beseech You, O Jehovah, we beseech You, do not let us perish for this man's life, and do not lay innocent blood on us. For You, O Jehovah, have done as You desired. ¹⁵ And they lifted Jonah up and threw him into the sea. And the sea ceased from its raging. ¹⁶ Then the men feared Jehovah with a great fear and offered a sacrifice to Jehovah, and vowed vows.
