⁶⁷ If you are the Christ, tell us. And He said to them, If I tell you, you will in no way believe.

⁶³ But Jesus kept silent. And answering, the high priest said to Him, I adjure you by the living God that you tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God. ⁶⁴ Jesus said to him, You said it . I tell you more. From this time you shall see the Son of man sitting off the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of the heavens. Psa. 110:1; LXX-Dan. 7:13 ⁶⁵ Then the high priest tore his garments, saying, He blasphemed! Why do we have any more need of witnesses? Behold, now you have heard his blasphemy. ⁶⁶ What does it seem to you? And answering, they said, He is liable to death. ⁶⁷ Then they spat in His face, and beat Him with the fist, and some slapped Him, ⁶⁸ saying, Prophesy to us, Christ. Who is the one that struck you?

⁶¹ But He was silent and answered nothing. Again the high priest questioned Him, and said to Him, Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? ⁶² And Jesus said, I AM! And you will see the Son of man sitting off the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of the heaven. Psa. 110:1; Dan. 7:13 ⁶³ And tearing his garments, the high priest said, Why do we still have need of witnesses? ⁶⁴ You heard the blasphemy. What does it seem to you? And they all condemned Him to be liable, even of death. ⁶⁵ And some began to spit at Him, and to cover His face, and to beat Him with a fist, and to say to Him, Prophesy! And the under-officers struck Him with slaps. ⁶⁶ And Peter being in the court below, one of the high priest's female slaves came.

³¹ And he said to him, If they will not hear Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if one from the dead should rise.

³⁹ You search the Scriptures, for you think in them you have everlasting life. And they are the ones witnessing concerning Me. ⁴⁰ And you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life. ⁴¹ I do not receive glory from men; ⁴² but I have known you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves. ⁴³ I have come in the name of My Father, and you do not receive Me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive that one. ⁴⁴ How are you able to believe, you who receive glory from one another, and the glory which is from the only God you do not seek? ⁴⁵ Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father; there is one accusing you, Moses, in whom you have hoped. ⁴⁶ For if you were believing Moses, you would then believe Me; for that one wrote concerning Me. ⁴⁷ But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?

⁴³ Why do you not know My speech? It is because you are not able to hear My Word. ⁴⁴ You are of the Devil as father, and the lusts of your father you desire to do. That one was a murderer from the beginning, and he has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own, because he is a liar, and the father of it. ⁴⁵ And because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me.

²⁷ He answered them, I told you already, and you did not hear. Why do you wish to hear again? Do you also desire to become disciples of Him? ²⁸ Then they reviled him and said, You are a disciple of that one, but we are disciples of Moses.

²⁴ Then the Jews encircled Him, and said to Him, How long do you lift up our soul? If you are the Christ, tell us publicly. ²⁵ Jesus answered them, I told you, and you did not believe. The works which I do in the name of My Father, these bear witness about Me. ²⁶ But you do not believe for you are not of My sheep, as I said to you.

³⁷ But though He had done so many miracles before them, they did not believe into Him, ³⁸ so that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said, "Lord, who has believed our report? And the arm of the Lord, to whom was it revealed?" Isa. 53:1 ³⁹ Because of this they could not believe, because Isaiah said again, ⁴⁰ "He has blinded their eyes" and "has hardened their heart," "that they might not see with the eyes" and "understand with the heart," "and be converted," "and I should heal them." Isa. 6:10 ⁴¹ Isaiah said these things when he saw His glory, and spoke about Him. ⁴² Still, however, even out of the rulers, many did believe into Him. But because of the Pharisees, they were not confessing, so that they not be put out of the synagogue. ⁴³ For they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God.
