⁴⁰ How often they disobeyed Him in the wilderness, angering Him in the desert!

¹¹ And Jehovah said to Moses, How long will this people despise Me? And How long will they continue not to believe in Me, for all the signs which I have done in its midst?

²¹ And I took your sin, the calf which you made, and I burned it with fire, and beat it, grinding it very small until it was as fine as dust; and I threw its dust into the torrent that came down out of the mountain. ²² And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at The Graves of Lust you provoked Jehovah to anger.

¹⁷ Yet they sinned still more against Him, to provoke the Most High in the desert.

⁸ do not harden your heart as in the day of strife, as in the day of testing in the wilderness; ⁹ When your fathers tempted Me, they tested Me and they saw My work. ¹⁰ For forty years I was disgusted with this generation; and I said, They are a people who err in heart; and, They do not know My ways,

¹⁴ and they greedily lusted in the wilderness, and tested God in the desert. ¹⁵ And He gave their request to them, but sent wasting into their soul. ¹⁶ And they were jealous of Moses the saint of Jehovah in the camp of Aaron; ¹⁷ the earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; and covered the company of Abiram. ¹⁸ And a fire burned in their company; the flame burned up the wicked. ¹⁹ They made a calf in Horeb, and fell down before the casted image; ²⁰ and they changed their Glory into the image of an ox eating grass. ²¹ They forgot God their deliverer, doing great things in Egypt; ²² wonders in the land of Ham; awesome things by the Sea of Reeds. ²³ And He said to destroy them; except Moses His chosen one had stood before Him in the breach, to turn away His wrath from destroying them . ²⁴ They despised the pleasant land; they did not believe His word. ²⁵ And they murmured in their tents, not listening to the voice of Jehovah; ²⁶ and He lifted up His hand to them, to make them fall in the wilderness; ²⁷ to make their seed fall also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands. ²⁸ They also were joined to Baal-peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead; ²⁹ and provoked Him with their deeds; and a plague broke out among them. ³⁰ Then Phinehas stood and intervened, and the plague was stayed; ³¹ and it was counted to him for righteousness to generation and generation, forever. ³² And they angered Him at the waters of Meribah, and it went ill for Moses because of them; ³³ for they provoked his spirit, and he spoke rashly with his lips.

¹¹ because they rebelled against the words of God, and despised the counsel of the Most High;

¹³ And He said, Hear now, O house of David, is it too little that you weary men, but will you also weary my God?

¹⁰ But they rebelled, and provoked His Holy Spirit, so He was turned to be their enemy; He fought against them.

³⁰ And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed to the day of redemption.

¹⁵ as in the saying, "Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as in the provocation." LXX-Psa. 94:7, 8; MT-Psa. 95:7, 8 ¹⁶ For hearing, some provoked Him, but not all those coming out of Egypt through Moses. ¹⁷ But with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with the ones sinning, whose corpses fell in the wilderness?
