⁷ And it came into the heart of David my father, to build a house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

² that the king said to Nathan the prophet, Behold now, I live in a house of cedar, and the ark of the Lord dwells in the midst of a tent. ³ And Nathan said to the king, Go and do all that [is] in your heart, for the Lord [is] with you.

³ You knew my father David, that he could not build a house to the name of the Lord my God because of the wars that compassed him about, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.

¹⁷ And it was in the heart of my father to build a house to the name of the Lord God of Israel.

¹ And it came to pass as David lived in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord [is] under [curtains] of skins.

⁷ And David said to Solomon, [My] child, it was in my heart to build a house to the name of the Lord God.

² And David stood in the midst of the assembly, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: it was in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and a place for the feet of our Lord, and I prepared [materials] suitable for the building: ³ but God said, You shall not build me a house to call my name upon it, for you are a man of war, and have shed blood. ⁴ Yet the Lord God of Israel chose me out of the whole house of my father to be king over Israel for ever; and he chose Juda as the kingly [house], and out of the house of Juda [he chose] the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he preferred me, that I should be king over all Israel.
