⁴ And Balaam went to enquire of God; and he went straight forward, and God appeared to Balaam; and Balaam said to him, I have prepared the seven altars, and have offered a calf and a ram on [every] altar.

⁹ And God came to Balaam, and said to him, Who are these men with you?

²⁰ And God came to Balaam by night, and said to him, If these men are come to call you, rise and follow them; nevertheless the word which I shall speak to you, it shall you do.

¹ And Balaam said to Balac, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven calves, and seven rams.

¹⁶ And God met Balaam, and put a word into his mouth, and said, return to Balac, and thus shall you speak.

³ saying, Why have we fasted, and you regard not? [why] have we afflicted our souls, and you did not know it? Nay, in the days of your fasts you⌃ find your pleasures, and all them that are under your power you⌃ wound. ⁴ If you⌃ fast for quarrels and strifes, and strike the lowly with [your] fists, therefore do you⌃ fast to me as [you⌃ do] this day, so that your voice may be heard in crying?
