¹ (60) For the end, for them that shall yet be changed; for an inscription by David for instruction, when he [had] burned Mesopotamia of Syria, and Syria Sobal, and Joab [had] returned and struck [in] the valley of salt twelve thousand. O God, you have rejected and destroyed us; you have been angry, yet have pitied us. ² You have shaken the earth, and troubled it; heal its breaches, for it has been shaken. ³ You have shown your people hard things: you has made us drink the wine of astonishment. ⁴ You have given a token to them that fear you, that they might flee from the bow. Pause. ⁵ That your beloved ones may be delivered; save with your right hand, and hear me. ⁶ God has spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, and divide Sicima, and measure out the valley of tents. ⁷ Galaad is mine, and Manasse is mine; and Ephraim is the strength of my head; ⁸ Judas is my king; Moab is the caldron of my hope; over Idumea will I stretch out my shoe; the Philistines have been subjected to me. ⁹ Who will lead me into the fortified city? who will guide me as far a Idumea? ¹⁰ Will not you, O God, who have cast us off? and will not you, O God, go forth with our forces? ¹¹ Give us help from trouble: for vain is the deliverance of man. ¹² In God will we do valiantly; and he shall bring to nothing them that harass us.

² And it was reported to the Gazites, saying, Sampson is come here: and they compassed him and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and they were quiet all the night, saying, Let us wait till the dawn appear, and we will kill him. ³ And Sampson slept till midnight, and rose up at midnight, and took hold of the doors of the gate of the city with the two posts, and lifted them up with the bar, and laid them on his shoulders, and he went up to the top of the mountain that is before Chebron, and laid them there.

¹¹ And it came to pass in that night, that Saul sent messengers to the house of David to watch him, in order to kill him in the morning; and Melchol David's wife told him, saying, Unless you save your life this night, to-morrow you shall be slain. ¹² So Melchol lets David down by the window, and he departed, and fled, and escaped. ¹³ And Melchol took images, and laid them on the bed, and she put the liver of a goat by his head, and covered them with clothes. ¹⁴ And Saul sent messengers to take David; and they say that he is sick. ¹⁵ And he sends to David, saying, Bring him to me on the bed, that I may kill him. ¹⁶ And the messengers come, and, behold, the images [were] on the bed, and the goat's liver at his head. ¹⁷ And Saul said to Melchol, Why have you thus deceived me, and suffered my enemy to depart, and he has escaped? and Melchol said to Saul, He said, let me go, and if not, I will kill you. ¹⁸ So David fled, and escaped, and comes to Samuel to Armathaim, and tells him all that Saul had done to him: and Samuel and David went, and lived in Navath in Rama. ¹⁹ And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David [is] in Navath in Rama. ²⁰ And Saul sent messengers to take David, and they saw the assembly of the prophets, and Samuel stood [as] appointed over them; and the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they prophesy. ²¹ And it was told Saul, and he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied: and Saul sent again a third set of messengers, and they also prophesied. ²² And Saul was very angry, and went himself also to Armathaim, and he comes as far as the well of the threshing floor that is in Sephi; and he asked and said, Where [are] Samuel and David? And they said, Behold, in Navath in Rama. ²³ And he went thence to Navath in Rama: and there came the Spirit of God upon him also, and he went on prophesying till he came to Navath in Rama. ²⁴ And he took off his clothes, and prophesied before them; and lay down naked all that day and all that night: therefore they said, [Is] Saul also among the prophets?

¹ A Psalm of David, which he sang to the Lord because of the words of Chusi the Benjamite. O Lord my God, in you have I trusted: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me. ² Lest at any time [the enemy] seize my soul as a lion, while there is none to ransom, nor to save.

⁵ But I have hoped in your mercy; my heart shall exult in your salvation.

¹ (21) For the end, a Psalm of David. O Lord, the king shall rejoice in your strength; and in your salvation he shall greatly exult.

¹ (58) For the end. Destroy not: by David, for a memorial. If you⌃ do indeed speak righteousness, [then] do you⌃ judge rightly, you⌃ sons of men.

¹ (59) For the end. Destroy not: by David for a memorial, when Saul sent, and watched his house to kill him. Deliver me from mine enemies, O God; and ransom me from those that rise up against me.

⁴ he shall judge the poor of the people in righteousness, and save the children of the needy; and shall bring low the false accuser.

¹⁴ Then shall they be increased in a fine old age; and they shall be prosperous; that they may declare

⁹ O God, I will sing a new song to you: I will play to you on a lute of ten strings.

¹² whose children are as plants, strengthened in their youth: their daughters are beautiful, sumptuously adorned after the similitude of a temple.

¹⁶ he shall dwell in a high cave of a strong rock: bread shall be given him, and his water shall be sure.

⁹ Turn not your face away from me, turn not you away from your servant in anger: be you my helper, forsake me not; and, O God my Saviour, overlook me not.

² Listen to the voice of my supplication, when I pray to you, when I lift up my hands toward your holy temple.

¹ And Saul spoke to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, to kill David.

¹¹ Behold, your eyes have seen this day how that the Lord has delivered you this day into my hands in the cave; and I would not kill you, but spared you, and said, I will not lift up my hand against my lord, for he is the Lord's anointed.

¹⁷ And it came to pass when David had finished speaking these words to Saul, that Saul said, [Is] this your voice, Son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.

¹⁸ And he said, Why does my lord thus pursue after his servant? for in what have I sinned? and what unrighteousness has been found in me?

² The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers gathered themselves together, against the Lord, and against his Christ;

³ O Lord my God, if I have done this; (if there is unrighteousness in my hands;) ⁴ if I have requited with evil those who requited me [with good]; may I then perish empty by means of my enemies. ⁵ Let the enemy persecute my soul, an take it; and let him trample my life on the ground, and lay my glory in the dust. Pause. ⁶ Arise, O Lord, in your wrath; be exalted in the utmost boundaries of mine enemies: awake, O Lord my God, according to the decree which you did command.

¹² O Lord, listen to my prayer and my supplication: attend to my tears: be not silent, for I am a sojourner in the land, and a stranger, as all my fathers [were].

⁶ They have prepared snares for my feet, and have bowed down my soul: they have dug a pit before my face, and fallen into it [themselves]. Pause.

⁴ Let all that seek you exult and be glad in you: and let those that love your salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.

⁶ The words of ungodly men are crafty; but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

² For the godly is perished from the earth; and there is none among men that orders [his way] aright: they all quarrel even to blood: they grievously afflict every one his neighbor:

⁶ You will destroy all that speak falsehood: the Lord abhors the bloody and deceitful man.

¹⁶ [For their feet run to do evil, and are swift to shed blood. ]

⁹ Awake, awake, O Jerusalem, and put on the strength of your arm; awake as in the early time, as the ancient generation.

⁷ And their feet run to wickedness, swift to shed blood; their thoughts also are thoughts of murder; destruction and misery are in their ways;

²⁰ And he set up there an altar, and called on the God of Israel.

¹⁵ And God said again to Moses, Thus shall you say to the sons of Israel, The Lord God of our fathers, the God of Abraam, and God of Isaac, and God of Jacob, has sent me to you: this is my name for ever, and my memorial to generations of generations.

⁵ You shall not bow down to them, nor serve them; for I am the Lord your God, a jealous God, recompensing the sins of the fathers upon the children, to the third and fourth generation to them that hate me,

¹² If you⌃ will not repent, he will furbish his sword; he has bent his bow, and made it ready. ¹³ And on it he has fitted the instruments of death; he has completed his arrows for the raging ones.

¹⁵ The heathen are caught in the destruction which they planned: in the very snare which they hid is their foot taken.

³ because of the voice of the enemy, and because of the oppression of the sinner: for they brought iniquity against me, and were wrathfully angry with me.

⁴ For [this] is an ordinance for Israel, and a statute of the God of Jacob.

⁸ I will hear what the Lord God will say concerning me: for he shall speak peace to his people, and to his saints, and to those that turn their heart toward him.

¹⁰ Hear the word of the Lord, you⌃ rulers of Sodoma; attend to the law of God, you people of Gomorrha.

¹¹ And after a time there shall be in it no green thing because of [the grass] being parched. Come hither, you⌃ women that come from a sight; for it is a people of no understanding; therefore he that made them shall have no pity upon them, and he that formed them shall have no mercy [upon them].

²³ And you, Lord, know all their deadly counsel against me: account not their iniquities guiltless, and blot not out their sins from before you: let their weakness come before you; deal with them in the time of your wrath.

²⁷ And when the wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he has committed, and shall do judgment and justice, he has kept his soul, ²⁸ and has turned away from all his ungodliness which he has committed: he shall surely live, he shall not die.

⁷ Are not you⌃ to me as the sons of the Ethiopians, O children of Israel? says the Lord. Did I not bring Israel up out of the land of Egypt, and the Philistines from Cappadocia, and the Syrians out of the deep?

¹¹ And it came to pass in that night, that Saul sent messengers to the house of David to watch him, in order to kill him in the morning; and Melchol David's wife told him, saying, Unless you save your life this night, to-morrow you shall be slain.

¹² Does not he that dwells in the high places observe? and has he not brought down the proud? ¹³ And you has said, What does the Mighty One know? does he judge in the dark?

⁴ Their venom is like [that] of a serpent; as [that] of a deaf asp, and that stops her ears;

³ The words of transgressors have overpowered us; but do you pardon our sins. ⁴ Blessed [is he] whom you have chosen and adopted; he shall dwell in your courts; we shall be filled with the good things of your house; your temple is holy. ⁵ [You are] wonderful in righteousness. Listen to us, O God our Saviour; the hope of all the ends of the earth, and of them [that are] on the sea afar off:

¹¹ Therefore turn you away your hand, and your right hand from the midst of your bosom for ever?

⁴ For the ends of the earth are in his hands; and the heights of the mountains are his.

⁷ For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. ⁸ To-day, if you⌃ will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, according to the day of irritation in the wilderness: ⁹ where your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works.

² The Lord shall send out a rod of power for you out of Sion: rule you in the midst of your enemies. ³ With you is dominion in the day of your power, in the splendors of your saints: I have begotten you from the womb before the morning.

¹⁸ Some wound as they speak, [like] swords; but the tongues of the wise heal.

² The tongue of the wise knows what is good: but the mouth of the foolish tells out evil things.

²⁸ The hearts of the righteous meditate faithfulness; but the mouth of the ungodly answers evil things. The ways of righteous men are acceptable with the Lord; and through them even enemies become friends.

²⁴ Nevertheless the hand of Achicam son of Saphan was with Jeremias, to prevent his being delivered into the hands of the people, or being killed.

¹⁵ And he sends to David, saying, Bring him to me on the bed, that I may kill him. ¹⁶ And the messengers come, and, behold, the images [were] on the bed, and the goat's liver at his head.

⁴ He that dwells in the heavens shall laugh them to scorn, and the Lord shall mock them.

¹³ But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and was as a dumb man not opening his mouth.

⁵ That your beloved ones may be delivered; save with your right hand, and hear me.

²⁶ therefore I also will laugh at your destruction; and I will rejoice against [you] when ruin comes upon you:

⁹ The Lord also is become a refuge for the poor, a seasonable help, in affliction.

¹ (19) For the end, a Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims the work of his hands. ² Day to day utters speech, and night to night proclaims knowledge.

¹ (28) [A Psalm] of David. To you, O Lord, have I cried; my God, be not silent toward me: lest you be silent toward me, and so I should be likened to them that go down to the pit.

¹ (47) For the end, a Psalm for the sons of Core. Clap your hands, all you⌃ nations; shout to God with a voice of exultation.

⁷ For God is king of all the earth: sing praises with understanding.

² Thus have I appeared before you in the sanctuary, that I might see your power and your glory.

⁵ Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness; and [my] joyful lips shall praise your name. ⁶ Forasmuch as I have remembered you on my bed: in the early seasons I have meditated on you.

¹¹ But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that swears by him shall be praised; for the mouth of them that speak unjust things has been stopped.

² Behold, my God is my Saviour; I will trust in him, and not be afraid: for the Lord is my glory and my praise, and is become my salvation.

³ supporting truth, and keeping peace: for on you, O Lord, ⁴ they have trusted with confidence for ever, the great, the eternal God;

³¹ but they that wait on God shall renew [their] strength; they shall put forth new feathers like eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not hunger.

¹⁴ then shall you trust on the Lord; and he shall bring you up to the good places of the land, and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father: for the mouth of the Lord has spoken this.

¹⁹ The Lord God is my strength, and he will perfectly strengthen my feet; he mounts me upon high places, that I may conquer by his song.

¹⁰ And David said, [As] the Lord lives, if the Lord strike him not, or his day come and he die, or he go down to battle and be added [to his fathers, do not so].

¹¹ And David laid hold of his garments, and tore them; and all the men who were with him tore their garments. ¹² And they lamented, and wept, and fasted till evening, for Saul and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of Juda, and for the house of Israel, because they were struck with the sword.

¹⁷ And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son.

⁸ Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness because of mine enemies; make my way plain before your face.

³ But you, the praise of Israel, dwell in a sanctuary.

⁵ Fear and trembling came upon me, and darkness covered me.

⁷ Behold! I have fled afar off, and lodged in the wilderness. Pause.

² I will cry to God most high; the God who has benefited me. Pause.

⁸ You have transplanted a vine out of Egypt: you have cast out the heathen, and planted it.

⁸ But you, O Lord, are most high for ever.

⁸ to set him with princes, [even] with the princes of his people:

²⁴ And it shall come to pass, [that] before they call, I will listen to them; while they are yet speaking, I will say, What is it?

¹⁶ But I have not been weary of following you, nor have I desired the day of man; you know; the [words] that proceed out of my lips are before your face.

¹² When you till the earth, then it shall not continue to give its strength to you: you shall be groaning and trembling on the earth. ¹³ And Cain said to the Lord God, My crime [is] too great for me to be forgiven. ¹⁴ If you cast me out this day from the face of the earth, and I shall be hidden from your presence, and I shall be groaning and trembling upon the earth, then it will be that any one that finds me shall kill me. ¹⁵ And the Lord God said to him, Not so, any one that slays Cain shall suffer sevenfold vengeance; and the Lord God set a mark upon Cain that no one that found him might kill him.

³³ And I will scatter you among the nations, and the sword shall come upon you and consume you; and your land shall be desolate, and your cities shall be desolate.

⁹ Take heed to yourself, and keep your heart diligently: forget not any of the things, which your eyes have seen, and let them not depart from your heart all the days of your life; and you shall teach your sons and your sons' sons,

²⁷ And the Lord shall scatter you among all nations, and you⌃ shall be left few in number among all the nations, among which the Lord shall bring you.

⁶⁴ And the Lord your God shall scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other; and you shall there serve other gods, wood and stone, which you have not known, nor your fathers.

³ then the Lord shall heal your iniquities, and shall pity you, and shall again gather you out from all the nations, among which the Lord has scattered you. ⁴ If your dispersion be from one end of heaven to the other, thence will the Lord your God gather you, and thence will the Lord your God take you.

⁶ And Adonibezek fled, and they pursued after him, and took him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes. ⁷ And Adonibezek said, Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered [their food] under my table: as I therefore have done, so God has recompensed me: and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

¹² He sets up his tail like a cypress; and his nerves are wrapped together.

³ But you, O Lord, are my helper: my glory, and the one that lifts up my head.

¹¹ Because the king has desired your beauty; for he is your Lord.

⁵ or God has scattered the bones of the men-pleasers; they were ashamed, for God despised them.

⁹ Moreover his salvation is near them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.

¹¹ Truth has sprung out of the earth; and righteousness has looked down from heaven.

²⁷ They are troubled, they stagger as a drunkard, and all their wisdom is swallowed up.

⁵ For the living will know that they shall die: but the dead know nothing, and there is no longer any reward to them; for their memory is lost.

¹⁵ And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I have scattered them among the nations; and I will disperse them in the countries. ¹⁶ And I will leave of them [a few] men in number [spared] from the sword, and from famine, and pestilence; that they may declare all their iniquities among the nations whither they have gone; and they shall know that I am the Lord.

²² yet, behold, [there shall be] men left in it, the escaped thereof, who [shall] lead forth of it sons and daughters: behold, they [shall] go forth to you, and you⌃ shall see their ways and their thoughts: and you⌃ shall mourn over the evils which I have brought upon Jerusalem, [even] all the evils which I have brought upon it. ²³ And they shall comfort you, because you⌃ shall see their ways and their thoughts: and you⌃ shall know that I have not done in vain all that I have done in it, says the Lord.

² Flee to the mountains as a sparrow?

⁷ He shall rain upon sinners snares, fire, and brimstone, and a stormy blast [shall be] the portion of their cup.

⁷ who trouble the depth of the sea, the sounds of its waves. ⁸ The nations shall be troubled, and they that inhabit the ends [of the earth] shall be afraid of your signs; you will cause the outgoings of morning and evening to rejoice.

¹² Therefore have you broken down its hedge, while all that pass by the way pluck it?

³ Let not your foot be moved; and let not your keeper slumber. ⁴ Behold, he that keeps Israel shall not slumber nor sleep.

⁹ Keep me from the snare which they have set for me, and from the stumbling blocks of them that work iniquity. ¹⁰ Sinners shall fall by their own net: I am alone until I shall escape.

² For a man's own lips become a strong snare to him, and he is caught with the lips of his own mouth.

⁶ The righteousness of upright men delivers them: but transgressors are caught in their own destruction.

¹³ For the sin of [his] lips a sinner falls into snare; but a righteous man escapes from them. He whose looks are gentle shall be pitied, but he that contends in the gates will afflict souls.

⁷ A fool's mouth is ruin to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.

² Cursing, and lying, and murder, and theft, and adultery abound in the land, and they mingle blood with blood.

¹¹ In that day you shall not be ashamed of all your practices, wherein you have transgressed against me: for then will I take away from you your disdainful pride, and you shall no more magnify yourself upon my holy mountain.

³⁴ According to the number of the days during which you⌃ spied the land, forty days, a day for a year, you⌃ shall bear your sins forty years, and you⌃ shall know my fierce anger. ³⁵ I the Lord have spoken, Surely will I do thus to this evil congregation that has risen up together against me: in this wilderness they shall be utterly consumed, and there they shall die.

¹³ And the Lord was very angry with Israel; and for forty years he caused them to wander in the wilderness, until all the generation which did evil in the sight of the Lord was extinct.

¹⁴ And the days in which we traveled from Cades Barne till we crossed the valley of Zaret, [were] thirty and eight years, until the whole generation of the men of war failed, dying out of the camp, as the Lord God sware to them. ¹⁵ And the hand of the Lord was upon them to destroy them out of the midst of the camp, until they were consumed. ¹⁶ And it came to pass when all the men of war dying out of the midst of the people had fallen,

²² And the Lord your God shall consume these nations before you by little and little: you shall not be able to consume them speedily, lest the land become desert, and the wild beasts of the field be multiplied against you. ²³ And the Lord your God shall deliver them into your hands, and you shall destroy them with a great destruction, until you⌃ shall have utterly destroyed them.

⁴⁶ this day. And the Lord shall deliver you this day into my hand; and I will kill you, and take away your head from off you, and will give your limbs and the limbs of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky, and to the wild beasts of the earth; and all the earth shall know that there is a God in Israel. ⁴⁷ And all this assembly shall know that the Lord delivers not by sword or spear, for the battle [is] the Lord's, and the Lord will deliver you into our hands.

³⁶ And Eliu cried aloud to the heaven, and said, Lord God of Abraam, and Isaac, and Israel, answer me, O Lord, answer me this day by fire, and let all this people know that you are the Lord, the God of Israel, and I [am] your servant, and for your sake I have wrought these works. ³⁷ Hear me, O Lord, hear me, and let this people know that you are the Lord God, and you have turned back the heart of this people.

¹⁹ And now, O Lord our God, deliver us out of his hand, and all the kingdoms of the earth shall know that you alone [are] the Lord God.

⁹ Oh let the wickedness of sinners come to an end; and [then] you shall direct the righteous, O God that search the hearts and reins.

¹¹ Give us help from trouble: for vain is the deliverance of man.

³⁵ and devoured all the grass in their land, and devoured the fruit of the ground.

⁵ To him who made the heavens by understanding; for his mercy [endures] for ever. ⁶ To him who established the earth on the waters; for his mercy [endures] for ever.

⁵ For [it is] the Lord that made you; the Lord of hosts is his name: and he that delivered you, he is the God of Israel, [and] shall be called [so] by the whole earth.

²³ And I will be magnified, and sanctified, and glorified; and I will be known in the presence of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord.

⁷ And my holy name shall be known in the midst of my people Israel; and my holy name shall no more be profaned: and the nations shall know that I am the Lord, the Holy [One] in Israel.

²⁵ All these things came upon king Nabuchodonosor.

⁶ God has spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, and divide Sicima, and measure out the valley of tents.

⁴⁸ And you shall serve your enemies, which the Lord will send forth against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in the lack of all things; and you shall wear upon your neck a yoke of iron until he shall have destroyed you.

⁵³ And you shall eat the fruit of your body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, all that he has given you, in your straitness and your affliction, with which your enemy shall afflict you. ⁵⁴ He that is tender and very delicate within you shall look with an evil eye upon his brother, and the wife in his bosom, and the children that are left, which may have been left to him; ⁵⁵ so as [not] to give to one of them of the flesh of his children, whom he shall eat, because of his having nothing left him in your straitness, and in your affliction, with which your enemies shall afflict you in all your cities. ⁵⁶ And she that is tender and delicate among you, whose foot has not assayed to go upon the earth for delicacy and tenderness, shall look with an evil eye on her husband in her bosom, and her son and her daughter, ⁵⁷ and her offspring that comes out between her feet, and the child which she shall bear; for she shall eat them because of the lack of all things, secretly in your straitness, and in your affliction, with which your enemy shall afflict you in your cities. ⁵⁸ If you will not listen to do all the words of this law, which have been written in this book, to fear this glorious and wonderful name, the Lord your God;

²⁵ And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was [valued] at fifty pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung at five pieces of silver. ²⁶ And the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, and a woman cried to him, saying, Help, my lord, O king. ²⁷ And he said to her, Unless the Lord help you, whence shall I help you? from the corn-floor, or from the wine-press? ²⁸ And the king said to her, What is [the matter] with you? And the woman said to him, This [woman] said to me, Give your son, and we will eat him today, and we will eat my son to-morrow. ²⁹ So we boiled my son, and ate him; and I said to her on the second day, Give your son, and let us eat him: and she has hidden her son.

²³ And he has been appointed to be food for vultures; and he knows within himself that he is doomed to be a carcass: and a dark day shall carry him away as with a whirlwind.

¹ But now the youngest have laughed me to scorn, now they reprove me in [their] turn, whose fathers I set at nothing; whom I did not deem worthy [to be with] my shepherd dogs. ² Yes, why had I the strength of their hands? for them the full term [of life] was lost. ³ [One is] childless in lack and famine, [such as] they that fled but lately the distress and misery of drought. ⁴ Who compass the salt places on the sounding [shore], who had salt [herbs] for their food, and were dishonorable and of no repute, in lack of every good thing; who also ate roots of trees by reason of great hunger. ⁵ Thieves have risen up against me, ⁶ whose houses were the caves of the rocks, who lived under the wild shrubs. ⁷ They will cry out among the rustling [bushes].

²¹ And famine shall come sorely upon you, and it shall come to pass, [that] when you⌃ shall be hungry, you⌃ shall be grieved, and you⌃ shall speak ill of the prince and your fathers' ordinances: and they shall look up to heaven above,

¹¹ Yes, they are insatiable dogs, that know not what it is to be filled, and they are wicked, having no understanding: all have followed their own ways, each according to his [will].

⁴ DALETH. The tongue of the sucking child cleaves to the roof of its mouth for thirst: the little children ask for bread, [and] there is none to break [it] to them. ⁵ HE. They that feed on dainties are desolate in the streets: they that used to be nursed in scarlet have clothed themselves with dung.

⁹ TETH. The slain with the sword were better than they that were slain with hunger: they have departed, pierced through from [lack of] the fruits of the field. ¹⁰ JOD. The hands of tender-hearted women have sodden their own children: they became meat for them in the destruction of the daughter of my people.

⁹ We shall bring in our bread with [danger of] our lives, because of the sword of the wilderness.

⁵ Thus says the Lord concerning the prophets that lead my people astray, that bit with their teeth, and proclaim peace to them; and [when] nothing was put into their mouth, they raised up war against them:

⁶ Your right hand, O God, has been glorified in strength; your right hand, O God, has broken the enemies.

³⁷ The Lord who delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this uncircumcised Philistine. And Saul said to David, Go, and the Lord shall be with you.

¹¹ And it came to pass in that night, that Saul sent messengers to the house of David to watch him, in order to kill him in the morning; and Melchol David's wife told him, saying, Unless you save your life this night, to-morrow you shall be slain. ¹² So Melchol lets David down by the window, and he departed, and fled, and escaped.

³ my God; he shall be to me my guard, I will trust in him: [he is] my protector, and the horn of my salvation, my helper, and my sure refuge; you shall save me from the unjust man.

¹ For the End, a Song of David among [the ]Psalms. When I called upon [him], the God of my righteousness heard me: you have made room for me in tribulation; pity me, and listen to my prayer.

³ In the morning you shall hear my voice: in the morning will I wait upon you, and will look up.

¹³ They have opened their mouth against me, as a ravening and roaring lion.

⁵ Into your hands I will commit my spirit: you have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.

⁷ You are my refuge from the affliction that encompasses me; my joy, to deliver me from them that have compassed me. Pause.

⁵ Disclose your way to the Lord, and hope in him; and he shall bring [it] to pass.

⁹ Who will lead me into the fortified city? who will guide me as far a Idumea? ¹⁰ Will not you, O God, who have cast us off? and will not you, O God, go forth with our forces?

² For he is my God, and my savior; my helper, I shall not be moved very much. ³ How long will you⌃ assault a man? you⌃ are all slaughtering as with a bowed wall and a broken hedge.
