³ There he remained three months. But the Jews laid a plot against him, just as he was about to sail for Syria, so he decided to return to Mac-e-doÆni-a.

²³ After he had been there many days, the Jews plotted against him to kill him. ²⁴ But their conspiracy was made known to Saul, how they watched the gates of the city day and night to kill him.

⁹ And, in a vision of the night, there appeared to Paul a man resembling a Mac-edoÆni- an, standing and begging him, saying, Come over to Mac-e-doÆni-a and help me.

¹⁸ And after Paul had remained there many days, he bade the brethen farewell and sailed for Syria, and with him Pris-cilÆla and AÆquila; having shorn his head in CenÆchre-a: because he had vowed a vow.

²¹ When these things had been accomplished, Paul made up his mind to travel through all of Mac-e-doÆni-a and A-chaÆia, and then to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.

¹⁹ Serving God with great humility and with tears and amid the trials which were brought upon me by conspiracies of the Jews.

³ Then we reached the Island of Cyprus, and passed it on the left hand, and sailed to for there the ship was to unload her cargo.

¹² And when it was morning, certain of the Jews banded together and bound themselves under oath, that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. ¹³ And those who had sworn to this conspiracy were more than forty persons. ¹⁴ And they went to the priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under an oath, not to taste anything till we have killed Paul. ¹⁵ Now you and the leaders of the council ask the captain to bring him to you, as though you were desirous to have a thorough investigation of his acts, and we are ready to kill him before he shall arrive here.

³ They besought him as a favor to send for him and bring him to Jerusalem, for they were plotting to kill him on the way.

¹⁵ And in this confidence I wished to come to you before, that you might receive grace doubly;

⁵ For ever since we came to Mac-e-doÆni-a, our bodies have had no rest but have been troubled by everything; war without and fears within.

²⁶ On many journeys, I have been in perils from rivers, in perils of robbers, in perils from my own kinsmen, in perils from the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils from false brethren;

²¹ After that I went to the regions of Syria and Cilicia;
