¹³ Now when they had heard the speech of Simon Peter and John, which they had spoken boldly, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they recognized them that they had been with Jesus.

¹⁸ And while he was walking by the shore of the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter and his brother Andrew, who were casting nets into the sea, for they were fishermen. ¹⁹ And Jesus said to them, Come after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. ²⁰ So they immediately left their nets and went after him. ²¹ And when he left that place he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and his brother John, in a ship with Zebedee their father, repairing their nets; and Jesus called them. ²² So they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.

²⁵ At that time, Jesus answered and said, I thank you, O my Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the men of understanding, and you have revealed them to children.

⁵⁷ And those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had assembled. ⁵⁸ But Simon Peter followed him afar off, up to the courtyard of the high priest, and he went inside and sat with the soldiers, to see the end.

⁷¹ And as he was going to the porch, another one saw him, and she said to them, This man was also there with Jesus the Nazarene.

⁷³ After a while, those who were standing came up, and said to Peter, Truly you also are one of them, for even your speech proves it.

⁸ So Jesus sent Peter and John, and said to them, Go and prepare the passover for us to eat.

⁵² And Jesus said to the high priests and the elders and the officers of the temple, who had come against him, Have you come out against me to arrest me with swords and staves, as if you were against a bandit? ⁵³ I was with you every day in the temple, and you did not even point your hands at me; but this is your turn, and the power of darkness. ⁵⁴ And they arrested him, and brought him to the house of the high priest. And Simon followed him afar off.

⁵⁶ And a young woman saw him sitting by the fire, and she looked at him and said, This man also was with him. ⁵⁷ But he denied, and said, Woman, I do not know him. ⁵⁸ And after a little while, another saw him, and said to him, You also are one of them. But Peter said, I am not. ⁵⁹ And after an hour, another one argued and said, Truly, this man also was with him; for he is also a Galilean. ⁶⁰ Peter said, Man, I do not know what you are saying. And immediately while he was still speaking, the cock crew.

¹⁵ And the Jews marvelled, saying, How does this man know reading, when he has not been instructed?

⁴⁹ Except this cursed people, who do not know the law?

¹⁶ But Simon stood outside near the door. Then the other disciple, whom the high priest knew, went out and told the portress, and brought in Simon. ¹⁷ The young portress then said to Simon, Why, are you also one of the disciples of this man? He said to her, No.

²⁶ When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing, he said to his mother, Woman, behold your son!

⁷ And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these who speak Gal-i-lµÆans? ⁸ How is it that we hear every man in our own native language? ⁹ ParÆthi-ans and Medes and EÆlam-ites and those who dwell in Mes-o-po-taÆmi-a, Jews and Cap-pa-doÆci-ans and those from Pontus and Asia Minor, ¹⁰ And those from the region of PhrygÆi-a and of Pam-phylÆi-a and of Egypt, and of the regions of LibÆy-a near Cy-reÆne, and those who have come from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, ¹¹ And those from Crete, and Arabians, behold we hear them speak in our own tongues of the wonderful works of God. ¹² And they were all amazed and stunned, saying one to another, what does this mean?

²⁷ But God has chosen the foolish ones of the world to put the wise to shame; and God has chosen the weak ones of the world to embarrass the mighty;
