² In which you previously walked according to the worldly course of this world, and according to the will of the supreme ruler of the air, the spirit which is active in the children of disobedience.

¹⁹ The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they said, Behold, a glutton and a wine-bibber, and a friend of publicans and sinners. And yet wisdom is justified by its works.

⁴³ When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, it travels in places where there is no water, and seeks rest, and does not find it. ⁴⁴ Then it says, I will return to my own house from whence I came out; so it comes back and finds it empty, warm, and well furnished. ⁴⁵ Then it goes away and brings with it seven other spirits worse than itself, and they enter and live in it; and the end of that man becomes worse than at first. Such will happen to this evil generation.

³⁸ The field is the world; the good seed are the sons of the kingdom; but the tares are the sons of evil.

²¹ When a strong man is armed and keeps watch over his courtyard, * his property is safe; ²² But if there should come one who is stronger than he, he will conquer him, and take away his armor in which he trusted, and divide his spoil. ²³ He who is not with me is against me; and he who does not gather with me will scatter. ²⁴ When an unclean spirit is gone out of a man, it goes away and travels in places where there is no water, to seek rest; and when it finds it not, it says, I will return to my own house from whence I came out. ²⁵ And if it should come and find it warm and well furnished, ²⁶ Then it goes away and brings seven other spirits worse than itself; and they enter and dwell there; and the end of that man will become worse than the beginning.

⁸ And the lord praised the unjust steward because he had done wisely; for the children of this world are wiser in their generation than the children of light.

² And the high priests and the scribes sought how to kill him; but they were afraid of the people. ³ But Satan had taken possession of Judas who is called of Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve.

³¹ And Jesus said to Simon, Simon, behold Satan wants to sift all of you as wheat;

⁷ The world cannot hate you; but it hates me, because I testify against it, that its works are evil.

²³ And he said to them, You are from be- low, and I am from above; you are of this world, but I am not of this world.

⁴⁴ You are from the father of accusation, and you want to do the lusts of your father, he who is a murderer of men from the very beginning and who never stands by the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks he speaks his own lie, because he is a liar, and the father of it.

³¹ Now is the judgment of this world; now the leader of this world will be cast out.

² During supper, Satan put into the heart of Judas, son of Simon of Iscariot, to deliver him.

²⁷ And after the bread, Satan took possession of him. So Jesus said to him, What you are going to do, do it soon.

³⁰ Hereafter I will not talk much with you; for the prince of this world comes; and yet he has nothing against me.

¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but you are not of the world, for I have chosen you out of the world; this is why the world hates you.

¹¹ Concerning judgment, because the leader of this world has been judged.

³ And Simon Peter said to him, An-a-niÆas, why has Satan so filled your heart that you should lie to the Holy Spirit and hide part of the money of the price of the field?

³⁵ The mayor of the city finally quieted them, saying, Men of EphÆe-sus, who among men does not know that the city of the EpheÆsi- ans is the seat of great ArÆte-mis and her image that fell from heaven.

² Do not imitate the way of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, that you may discern what is that good and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

¹⁰ I do not mean that you should separate completely from all the immoral people of this world, or from the fraudulent and extortioners, or from idolaters; otherwise you would be obliged to leave this world.

¹¹ And some of these evils were to be found in some of you, but you have been cleansed, and have been sanctified, and made righteous in the name of our LORD Jesus Christ, and through the Spirit of our God.

⁴ To those in this world whose minds have been blinded by God, because they did not believe, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the likeness of God, should shine on them.

⁴ Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God our Father:

³ In those very deeds in which we were also corrupted from the very beginning through the lusts of the flesh, fulfilling the wills of the flesh and of the mind: thereby we became completely the children of wrath, even as others.

²² That you lay aside all your former practices, that is to say, the old man which is degenerated with deceitful lusts;

⁶ Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things the anger of God comes on the children of disobedience.

¹² For your conflict is not only with flesh and blood, but also with the angels, and with powers, with the rulers of this world of darkness, and with the evil spirits under the heavens.

²¹ Even to you, who in times past were alienated and hostile in your minds because of your evil works, has been given peace,

⁶ And it is because of these things that the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience. ⁷ In the past you also lived among these things, and you were perverted by them.

¹⁰ For DeÆmas has forsaken me, having loved this world, and has gone to Thes-salo- niÆca; CresÆcens to Ga-laÆtia; Titus to DalmaÆtia.

⁷ Thus let not that man expect that he will receive anything of the LORD.

⁴ O you adulterers! Do you not know that the love for worldly things is enmity with God? Whosoever, therefore, esteems worldly things is the enemy of God.

¹⁴ Like obedient children, not partakers again in those sinful desires for which you once lusted in your ignorance:

³ For the time past sufficed to have wrought the will of the pagans when you lived in lasciviousness, drunkenness, revellings, indecent singing, and worship of idols.

¹⁴ And have eyes full of adultery, and of sin that does not cease: beguiling, unstable souls are they whose hearts are well versed in covetousness: accursed sons are they. ¹⁵ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the body, and the covetousness of the eyes, and the pride of material things; does not come from the Father, but is of the world. ¹⁷ And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he who does the will of God abides forever.

⁸ He who commits sin is of the devil; because the devil has been a sinner from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God appeared, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

¹⁰ In this the children of God can be distinguished from the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness and does not love his brother, does not belong to God.

⁴ But you are of God, my children, and have overcome them: because he who is among you is greater than he who is in the world.

⁴ For whoever is born of God triumphs over the world: and this is the victory which conquers the world, even our faith.

¹⁹ And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness.

⁹ Thus the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world: he was cast out on the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

⁸ And all who dwell upon the earth shall worship him, even those whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

¹⁴ Beguiling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the wild beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.

¹⁷ Then the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple from the throne, saying, It is done.

² And he seized the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Tempter and Satan, who deceived the whole world, and bound him a thousand years,
