³⁴ O generation of scorpions, how can you speak good things when you are bad? For the mouth speaks from the fullness of the heart. ³⁵ A good man brings out good things from good treasures, and a bad man brings out bad things from bad treasures. ³⁶ For I say to you, that for every foolish word which men speak, they will have to answer for it on the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be found guilty.

¹⁵ There is nothing outside of a man, if it should enter into him, which can defile him; but what goes out of him, that defiles the man.

⁶ The tongue is a fire, and the sinful world like a forest: that very tongue, while it is among our members, can defile our whole body, and set on fire the records of our race which have rolled down from the beginning: and in the end it is consumed by fire.
