⁷ Woe to the world because of offences! Offences are bound to come; but woe to the man by whose hand the offences come!

⁴¹ The Son of man will send his angels, and they will pick out from his kingdom all things which cause stumbling, and all workers of iniquity. ⁴² And they will throw them into the furnace of fire; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

¹³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you embezzle the property of widows, with the pretense that you make long prayers; because of this you shall receive a greater judgment.* ¹⁴ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you have shut off the kingdom of heaven against men; for you do not enter into it yourselves, and do not permit those who would enter. ¹⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you traverse sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him the son of hell twice more than yourselves. ¹⁶ Woe to you, blind guides, for you say, Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold which is in the temple, he is guilty! ¹⁷ O you fools and blind! for which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold? ¹⁸ And whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the offering that is on it, he is guilty. ¹⁹ O you fools and blind! for which is greater, the offering, or the altar that sanctifies the offering? ²⁰ Therefore he who swears by the altar, he swears by it and by everything that is on it. ²¹ And whoever swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who dwells in it. ²² And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits on it. ²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you take tithes on mint, dill, and cummin, and you have overlooked the more important matters of the law, such as justice, mercy, and trustworthiness. These were necessary for you to have done, and the same by no means to have left undone. ²⁴ O blind guides, who strain at gnats and swallow camels! ²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of extortion and iniquity. ²⁶ Blind Pharisees! clean first the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that their outside may also be clean. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like tombs painted white, which look beautiful from the outside, but inside are full of dead bones and all kinds of corruption. ²⁸ Even so, from the outside you appear to men to be righteous, but from within you are full of iniquity and hypocrisy.

²⁴ The Son of man is going through, just as it is written concerning him; but woe to the man by whose hand the Son of man is betrayed! it would have been far better for that man never to have been born.

⁷ And when you hear of wars and rumors of revolutions, do not be afraid; for this is bound to happen, but the end is not yet.

¹ AND Jesus said to his disciples, It is impossible but that offences should come; but woe to him by whose hand they come!

¹² While I was with them in the world, I protected them in your name; those you gave me I protected, and not one of them is lost, except the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled.

¹⁶ Men and brethren, it was proper that the scripture should be fulfilled, that which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to them that seized Jesus.

¹⁸ He is the one who earned for himself a field with the price of sin; and falling headlong, he burst open in the midst and all his bowels gushed out. ¹⁹ And this very thing is known to all who dwell in Jerusalem; so that the field is called in the language of the country, KhaÆkal- DeÆma which is to say Ko-ri-athÆdem, the field of blood. ²⁰ For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no one dwell in it; and let his duty be taken by another man.

²³ You are proud of the law but you dishonor God by breaking the law. ²⁴ For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

¹⁹ For controversies are bound to be among you, that those who are approved may be made manifest among you.

³ Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, unless it is preceded by a rebellion, and the man of sin be revealed as the son of perdition, ⁴ Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is reverenced; so that even in the temple of God, he sits as a god, and shows himself, as though he were a god. ⁵ Do you not remember, that when I was with you I told you these things? ⁶ And now you know what has prevented him from being revealed in his time. ⁷ For the mystery of iniquity is already at work: until he who now is the obstacle be taken out of the way. ⁸ Then shall the Wicked be exposed, that one whom our LORD Jesus shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the revelation of his coming: ⁹ Even him, whose coming is due to the working of Satan, with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ And with all deceitfulness of unrighteousness in those who perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved thereby. ¹¹ For this cause God shall send them strong delusion that they should believe a lie. ¹² That they all, who did not believe in the truth but preferred unrighteousness, might be damned.

¹ NOW the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, following after misleading spirits, and doctrines of devils. ² Who with false appearance mislead and speak lies and are seared in their own conscience; ³ Who prohibit marriage, and demand abstinence from foods which God has created for use and thanksgiving of those who believe and know the truth.

¹⁴ I would, therefore, that the younger widows marry, bear children, manage their own households, and give no occasion to the adversary for disdain. ¹⁵ For, as conditions are now, some have already strayed after Satan.

¹ LET all of those who are under the yoke of slavery honor and respect their masters in every way, so that the name of God and his doctrines may not be blasphemed.

¹ KNOW this: that in the last days disas trous times will come. ² And men shall be lovers of themselves, and lovers of money, proud, conceited, blasphemers, disobedient to their own people, ungrateful, wicked, ³ False accusers, addicts to lust, brutal, haters of good things, ⁴ Traitors, hasty, boasters, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; ⁵ Having a form of godliness, but are far from the power of God: from such turn away.

³ For the time will come when men will not listen to sound doctrine; but they will add for themselves extra teachers according to their desires, being lured by enticing words; ⁴ And they will turn away their ears from the truth, and they will turn to fables.

⁵ To be discreet, chaste, good home keepers, obedient to their own husbands, so that no one can reproach the word of God.

⁸ Choose sound words that are instructive so that no man can point the finger of scorn at us, and so that he who is against us may be shamed, when he can find nothing evil to say about us.

² Many will follow their pernicious ways, by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. ³ And through covetousness, they will exploit you with feigned words: whose judgment from the very beginning has not ceased and their damnation is always active.

¹⁵ Who have forsaken the right way and are gone astray, following the way of BaÆlaam, the son of Be-or, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; ¹⁶ But who was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb ass, speaking with manÆs voice, halted the folly of the prophet. ¹⁷ These men are springs without water, as clouds that are carried with a tempest; the mist of darkness is reserved to them forever.

⁴ For certain men have falsely entered among you, and these were foreordained from the very beginning to this condemnation; they are ungodly men, turning the grace of God into lasciviousness, and denying the only LORD God, and our LORD Jesus Christ.

¹¹ Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and have perished in the rebellion of Korah. ¹² These people are those who lead a wasteful, feasting life and are blemished; they do not shepherd themselves in reverence; they are clouds without rain, driven by winds; trees whose blossoms have withered, without fruit; having died a second time, pulled up by the roots; ¹³ Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit adultery. ¹⁵ And also you have those among you who hold to the teaching of the Nic-o-laÆi-tanes.

²⁰ Notwithstanding I have a few things against you, because you allowed that woman of yours Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication and to eat things sacrificed to idols. ²¹ And I gave her time to repent, but she did not repent from her fornication. ²² Behold I will cast her into a sick bed and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. ²³ And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he who searches the reins and hearts: and I will give unto everyone of you according to your works.

²⁰ And the wild beast was taken and with him the false prophet who wrought miracles before him with which he deceived those who had received the mark of the wild beast, and those who worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. ²¹ And the others were slain by the sword that came out from the mouth of him who sat upon the horse: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.
