¹³ For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but it is the doers of the law who shall be justified.

²¹ It is not everyone who merely says to me, My Lord, my Lord, will enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father in heaven. ²² A great many will say to me in that day, My Lord, my Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out devils, and in your name do many wonders? ²³ Then I will declare to them, I have never known you; keep away from me, O you that work iniquity. ²⁴ Therefore whoever hears these words of mine, and does them, he is like a wise man, who built his house upon a rock. ²⁵ And the rain came down, and the rivers overflowed, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house; but it did not fall down, because its foundations were laid upon a rock. ²⁶ And whoever hears these words of mine, and does them not, is like a foolish man, who built his house upon sand. ²⁷ And the rain came down, and the rivers overflowed, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house; and it fell down, and its fall was very great.

²¹ He answered and said to them, These are my mother and my brothers, those who hear the word of God and do it.

²⁵ And behold, a scribe stood up to test him, and he said, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? ²⁶ Jesus said to him, What is written in the law? how do you read it? ²⁷ He answered and said to him, You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself. ²⁸ Jesus said to him, You said the truth; do this and you shall live. ²⁹ But as he wanted to justify himself, he said to him, And who is my neighbor?

¹⁴ I say to you, that this man went down to his house more righteous than the Pharisee. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled; and everyone who humbles himself will be exalted.

³⁹ And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.

²⁵ For circumcision is profitable only if you keep the law: but if you break the law, then circumcision becomes uncircumcision.

²⁰ For by the deeds of the law, no flesh shall be justified before his presence: for by means of the law, sin is known.

²³ For all have sinned and are short of the glory of God:

³⁰ Because it is one God, who justifies the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision by the same faith.

² For if Abraham were justified by works, he had reason to be proud; but not before God. ³ For what said the scripture? Abraham believed in God, and it was counted to him for righteousness. ⁴ But to him who works, wages are not considered as a favor but as that which is due to him. ⁵ And to him who works not, but only believes in him who justifies sinners, his faith is counted for righteousness.

⁵ For Moses writes of the righteousness of the law thus: Whoever shall do these things shall live by them.

¹⁶ Know that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith in Christ and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no human being be justified.

¹¹ But that no man is justified by the law before God, is evident: for, as it is written, The righteous shall live by faith. ¹² Thus the law is not made by faith, but, Whosoever shall do the things which are written in it shall live in it.

⁴ You have ceased to adhere to Christ, who seek justification by the law; you are fallen from grace.

²² But you be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. ²³ For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man who sees his face in a mirror; ²⁴ For he sees himself and goes his way, and forgets how he looked. ²⁵ But whoever looks into the perfect law of liberty, and abides in it, is not merely a hearer of the word which can be forgotten but a doer of the work, and this man shall be blessed in his work.

²¹ Was not our father Abraham justified by works, when he raised Isaac his son upon the altar? ²² You can see, how his faith helped his works, and how by works his faith was made perfect. ²³ And the scripture was fulfilled which said, Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. ²⁴ You see then, how a man by works becomes righteous, and not by faith only. ²⁵ Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot, justified by works, when she welcomed the spies, and sent them out another way?

²⁹ If you know that he is righteous, you know also that every one who does righteousness is of him.

⁷ My children, let no man deceive you; he who does righteousness is righteous, just as Christ is righteous.
