^{35 (31:34)} Thus hath said the Lord, who bestoweth the sun for a light by day, the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, who stirreth up the sea that its waves roar—The Lord of hosts is his name:

¹⁴ And God said, Let there be lights in the expansion of the heaven to divide between the day and the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years; ¹⁵ And let them be for lights in the expansion of the heaven, to give light upon the earth: and it was so. ¹⁶ And God made the two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night; and the stars. ¹⁷ And God set them in the expansion of the heaven to give light upon the earth, ¹⁸ And to rule by day and by night, and to divide between the light and the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

²¹ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord drove back the sea with a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. ²² And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them, on their right hand, and on their left.

¹⁹ And that thou lift not up thy eyes unto the heavens, and thou see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, and be misled to bow down to them, and to serve them, those which the Lord thy God hath assigned unto all nations under the whole heaven.

¹² By his power he split in pieces the sea, and by his understanding he crushed its pride:

¹⁰ And when I decreed for it my law, and set for it bars and doors, ¹¹ And said, Thus far mayest thou come, but no farther; and here shall be stayed thy strength in the pride of thy waves?

³³ Knowest thou the laws of heaven? or dost thou appoint its rule on the earth?

¹ To the chief musician, a psalm of David. ^(19:2) The heavens relate the glory of God; and the expanse telleth of the works of his hands. ^{2 (19:3)} Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge. ^{3 (19:4)} There is no speech, there are no words, their voice is not heard. ^{4 (19:5)} But their melody extendeth through all the earth, and to the end of the world their words. For the sun hath he set a tabernacle among them; ^{5 (19:6)} And he goeth out as a bridegroom from his chamber, he is glad like a strong man to run his course; ^{6 (19:7)} From the end of the heavens is his going forth, and his circuit is unto their ends: and there is nothing hidden from his heat.

⁵ They shall fear thee as long as the sun shineth, and in the presence of the moon, throughout all generations.

¹⁷ His name will endure for ever; in the presence of the sun his name shall flourish: and men shall bless themselves with him: all nations shall call him happy.

¹³ It was thou that didst divide by thy strength the sea: thou brokest in pieces the heads of the crocodiles on the waters.

¹⁶ Thine is the day and thine is the night: it is thou who hast prepared the luminary and the sun.

¹³ He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters stand upright as a wall.

^{2 (89:3)} For I have said, To eternity will kindness be built up: the heavens—yea, in these wilt thou establish thy faithfulness.

³ The rivers have lifted up, O Lord, the rivers have lifted up their voice; the rivers lift up their waves. ⁴ But more than the noise of great waters, than the mighty billows of the sea, is the Lord excellent on high.

⁹ He rebuked the Red Sea also, and it was dried up; and he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.

²⁵ For he spoke, and he raised the stormy wind, which lifteth up its waves. ²⁶ They would mount up to heaven, they would go down to the depths: their soul was melted because of their danger. ²⁷ They would reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and all their wisdom was exhausted. ²⁸ And they cried unto the Lord when they were in distress, and he brought them out of their afflictions. ²⁹ He calmed the storm into a whisper, and stilled were the waves of the sea.

³ The sea beheld it, and fled: the Jordan was driven backward. ⁴ The mountains skipped like wethers, the hills like lambs. ⁵ What aileth thee, O sea, that thou fleest? thou, O Jordan, that thou art driven backward?

⁸⁹ LAMED. To eternity, O Lord, standeth firm thy word with the heavens.

⁷ To him that made great lights; for to eternity endureth his kindness; ⁸ The sun for the rule by day; for to eternity endureth his kindness; ⁹ The moon and stars for the rule by night; for to eternity endureth his kindness.

² For of the holy city they call themselves, and upon the God of Israel they stay themselves,—The Lord of hosts is his name.

¹⁵ For I am the Lord thy God, who stirreth up the sea that its waves roar: the Lord of hosts is his name.

⁵ For thy husband is thy Maker, the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel, “The God of all the earth,” shall he be called.

¹² That displayed by the right hand of Moses his glorious arm; that divided the water before them, to make unto himself an everlasting name?

²² Will ye not fear me? saith the Lord; will ye not tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand as a bound for the sea by an everlasting law, which it can never pass over? and though the waves thereof be upheaved, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it.

¹⁶ Not like these is the portion of Jacob; for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance: The Lord of hosts is his name.

¹⁸ Thou exercisest kindness unto the thousandth generation, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers unto the bosom of their children after them; thou art the Great, the Mighty God, the Lord of hosts is his name;

¹⁸ As I live, saith the King, the Lord of hosts is his name, Surely as Thabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel is by the sea, so shall he come.

³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong; The Lord of hosts is his name: he will surely contend in their cause, in order that he may give rest to the land, and make the inhabitants of Babylon tremble.
