¹⁵ There is gold, and a multitude of pearls; but a precious vessel are the lips of knowledge.

¹² But wisdom—where shall she he found? and where is the place of understanding? ¹³ Man knoweth not her value: and she is not to be found in the land of the living. ¹⁴ The deep saith, Not in me is she: and the sea saith, She is not with me. ¹⁵ No fine gold can be given in lieu of her, and silver cannot be weighed out as her price. ¹⁶ She cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. ¹⁷ She cannot be estimated after gold and glass; and not in exchange for her can vessels of refined gold be taken. ¹⁸ Coral and crystal will not be thought of; and the value of wisdom is above pearls. ¹⁹ She cannot be estimated after the topaz of Ethiopia, nor can she be valued with pure gold.

¹⁵ She is more precious than pearls; and all the things thou valuest are not equal unto her.

¹¹ For wisdom is better than pearls; and all the things that men wish for are not equal to her.

²⁰ Like choice silver is the tongue of the righteous: the heart of the wicked is worth but very little. ²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die through lack of sense.

⁷ The lips of the wise scatter knowledge; but the heart of fools is not reliable.

²³ A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth; and a word spoken at the proper time, how good is it!

¹⁶ How much better is it to obtain wisdom than gold! and to obtain understanding is preferable to silver!

²¹ The wise in heart is called a man of understanding; and the sweetness of the lips increaseth information.

²⁴ Like the droppings of honey are pleasant sayings, sweet to the soul, and healing to the bones.

¹² As an earring of gold, and a pendant of fine gold, so is a wise reprover toward an ear that listeneth.

⁹ And in addition to this that Koheleth was wise, he continually also taught the people knowledge, and he probed, and searched out, and composed many proverbs. ¹⁰ Koheleth sought to find out acceptable words, and that which would be written down uprightly, even words of truth. ¹¹ The words of the wise are like goads, and like nails fastened are the words of the men of the assemblies, which are given by one shepherd.
