²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as beside myself,) I am more! I have been in labors more abundantly, in stripes above measure, in prisons more, in deaths many times.

¹⁶ For I will show him what great things he must suffer for My name's sake.

¹⁹ And Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there, who, having persuaded the people, and having stoned Paul, they drew him out of the city, supposing him to have died.

²³ And after laying on them many stripes, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailor to keep them safely; ²⁴ who, having received such a command, thrust them into the inner prison and made their feet fast in the stocks.

²³ except that the Holy Spirit witnesses in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions await me.

¹¹ And coming to us, and taking Paul's belt, and binding his hands and feet, he said, The Holy Spirit says these things: So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man whose belt this is, and will deliver him into the hands of the nations.

²⁶ He also hoped that silver would be given him by Paul, that he might free him. Therefore he also frequently sent for him and talked with him. ²⁷ But after two years Felix welcomed a successor, Porcius Festus. And wishing to show a favor to the Jews, Felix left Paul bound.

¹⁴ And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul's cause to the king, saying, A certain man has been left in bonds by Felix,

¹ And when it was determined that we should sail to Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners to one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus' cohort.

¹⁶ And when we came into Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the camp commander. But Paul was allowed to dwell by himself, with a soldier guarding him.

³⁰ And Paul remained two years in his own hired house. And he welcomed all who came in to him,

³⁶ As it is written, "For Your sake we are killed all the day long. We are counted as sheep of slaughter."

⁵ Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom you believed, even as the Lord gave to each?

¹ So let a man think of us as ministers of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

¹⁰ But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace which was toward me has not been without fruit, but I labored more abundantly than all of them; yet not I, but the grace of God with me.

³⁰ And why are we also in danger every hour? ³¹ Day by day I die, by your rejoicing, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord. ³² If according to man I fought with beasts in Ephesus, what advantage is to me if the dead are not raised? "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!"

⁹ But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, so that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead; ¹⁰ who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver; in whom we trust that He will yet deliver us,

⁶ who also has made us able ministers of the new covenant; not of the letter, but of the spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit makes alive.

¹¹ For we who live are always being delivered to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus might also be revealed in our body.

⁴ but in everything commending ourselves as God's servants, in much patience, in troubles, in emergencies, in distresses, ⁵ in stripes, in imprisonments, in riots, in labors, in watchings, in fastings;

⁹ as unknown and yet well known; as dying and, behold, we live; as chastened and not killed;

⁷ Do you look at things according to appearance? If anyone has persuaded himself that he is Christ's, let him think this again as to himself, that as he is Christ's, even so we are Christ's.

⁵ For I judge myself to have come behind the highest apostles in nothing.

²⁴ Five times from the Jews I received forty stripes minus one. ²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked. I have spent a night and a day in the deep.

¹¹ I have become foolish boasting. You compelled me. For I ought to be commended by you. For I lacked nothing of the highest apostles, if even I am nothing. ¹² Truly the signs of the apostle were worked out among you in all patience, in miracles and in wonders, and by works of power.

¹ For this cause, I, Paul, am the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you nations,

¹ I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beseech you that you walk worthy of the calling with which you are called,

²⁰ for which I am an ambassador in bonds; so that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

¹³ so that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places.

¹⁷ Yea, and if I am offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy and rejoice with you all.

²⁴ who now rejoice in my sufferings on your behalf, and I fill up the things lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh, on behalf of His body, which is the church;

²⁹ For which I also labor, striving according to the working of Him who works in me in power.

² And we sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God, and our fellow laborer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and to comfort you concerning your faith,

⁶ Having suggested these things to the brothers, you shall be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the Words of Faith and by the good doctrine which you have followed.

⁸ Therefore you should not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner. But be partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God,

¹⁶ May the Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chain.

⁹ in which I suffer ill as an evildoer, even to bonds. But the Word of God is not chained.

⁹ rather through love I entreat, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

³⁴ For you both sympathized with my bonds and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that you have in Heaven a better and an enduring substance.
