²⁶ Her priests have broken My Law and have defiled My holy things. They have put no difference between the holy and the common, and have not taught between the unclean and the clean, and have hidden their eyes from My sabbaths, and I am defiled among them.

¹ And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, and put incense on it, and offered strange fire before Jehovah, which He had not commanded them. ² And there went out fire from Jehovah and devoured them, and they died before Jehovah. ³ Then Moses said to Aaron, It is that which Jehovah spoke, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.

¹⁰ Even for a distinction between the holy and unholy, and between the unclean and clean

⁴⁷ to make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the creature that may be eaten and the creature that may not be eaten.

²⁵ And you shall make a difference between clean animals and unclean, and between unclean fowls and clean. And you shall not defile your souls by beast, or by fowl, or by any kind of living thing that creeps on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean.

² Speak to Aaron and to his sons, that they set themselves apart from the holy things of the sons of Israel, and that they do not profane My holy name in what they devote to Me. I am Jehovah. ³ Say to them, Any man of all your seed among your generations who draws near to the holy things, which the sons of Israel set apart to Jehovah, if he has his uncleanness on him, that soul shall be cut off from My presence. I am Jehovah. ⁴ Any man of the seed of Aaron who is leprous, or has an issue, he shall not eat of the holy things until he is clean. And he who touches any uncleanness of a person, or a man whose semen has gone out from him, ⁵ or a man who touches any swarming thing by which he may be made unclean, or touches a man who is unclean to him, by any uncleanness he has, ⁶ the soul which has touched it shall be unclean until evening. And he shall not eat of the holy things unless he washes his flesh with water. ⁷ And when the sun is down, he shall be clean, and shall afterward eat of the holy things, because it is his food. ⁸ He shall not eat a dead body or one torn, to defile himself with them. I am Jehovah. ⁹ And they shall keep My ordinance, lest they bear sin for it, that they may not die for it when they defile it. I, Jehovah, sanctify them. ¹⁰ There shall no stranger eat of the holy things. A tenant of a priest, or a hired servant, shall not eat of the holy thing. ¹¹ But if the priest buys a soul with his silver, he shall eat of it. And one born in his house shall eat of his food. ¹² And a priest's daughter, when she belongs to a man, a stranger, she may not eat of the heave offering of the holy things. ¹³ But if the priest's daughter is a widow, or put away, and has no child, and has returned to her father's house, as in her youth, she shall eat of her father's food. But no stranger shall eat of it. ¹⁴ And if a man eats a holy thing without knowing it, then he shall put the fifth part to it, and shall give to the priest with the holy thing. ¹⁵ And they shall not profane the holy things of the sons of Israel which they offer to Jehovah, ¹⁶ and so load on them the iniquity of the guilt offering in their eating of their holy things. For I am Jehovah who sanctifies them. ¹⁷ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁸ Speak to Aaron and to his sons and to all the sons of Israel, and say to them: Any man of the house of Israel, or of the strangers in Israel, who offers his sacrifices for his vows, for all his free-will offerings, which they will offer to Jehovah for a burnt offering, ¹⁹ you shall offer at your own will a male without blemish, of the cattle, of the sheep, or of the goats. ²⁰ You shall not offer that which has a blemish. For it shall not be acceptable for you. ²¹ And when a man offers a sacrifice of peace offerings to Jehovah to carry out his vow, or a free-will offering in cattle or sheep, it shall be without blemish to be accepted. There shall be no blemish in them. ²² Blind, or broken, or maimed, or having a running sore, or having scurvy, or scabbed, you shall not offer these to Jehovah, nor make an offering by fire of them on the altar to Jehovah. ²³ As to a young bull or a sheep that is deformed or dwarfed, you may offer that for a free-will offering. But for a vow it shall not be accepted. ²⁴ You shall not offer to Jehovah that which is bruised or crushed, or broken or cut. You shall not make any offering of it in your land. ²⁵ And you shall not offer the bread of your God out of the hand of a son of a stranger, or any of these, because their uncleanness is in them, and blemishes are in them. They shall not be accepted for you. ²⁶ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ²⁷ When a bull or a lamb or a goat is brought forth, then it shall be seven days under the dam. And from the eighth day and from then on, it shall be accepted for a fire offering to Jehovah. ²⁸ But a bull or sheep, it and its young one, you shall not kill it in one day. ²⁹ And when you will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to Jehovah, offer it at your own will. ³⁰ On the same day it shall be eaten up. You shall leave none of it until morning. I am Jehovah. ³¹ And you shall keep My commandments, and do them. I am Jehovah. ³² And you shall not profane My holy name. But I will be holy among the sons of Israel. I am Jehovah who is sanctifying you, ³³ who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. I am Jehovah.

¹² And the sons of Eli were sons of Belial. They did not know Jehovah. ¹³ And the priests' custom with the people was: If any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came while the flesh was boiling, with a flesh-hook of three teeth in his hand. ¹⁴ And he stuck it into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot. All that the flesh-hook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites that came there. ¹⁵ Yea, before they burned the fat, the priest's servant came and said to the man who sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest. For he will not have boiled flesh from you, but raw! ¹⁶ And if any man said to him, Let them not fail to burn the fat at once, and then take as your soul desires, then he would answer him, No! But you shall give now! And if not, I will take it by force. ¹⁷ And the sin of the young men was very great before Jehovah. For men despised the offering of Jehovah.

²² And Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who gathered at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

²⁹ Why do you kick at My sacrifice and My offering, which I have commanded in My house? Do you honor your sons above Me, to make yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel My people?

⁸ The priests did not say, Where is Jehovah? And they who handle the Law did not know Me; the shepherds also rebelled against Me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things not profitable.

²⁶ As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their rulers, and their priests, and their prophets; ²⁷ saying to a tree, You are my father; and to a stone, You gave me birth. For they have turned their back to Me, and not their face; but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise and save us!

¹⁹ Therefore so says Jehovah, If you turn back, then I will bring you again; you shall stand before Me. And if you take the precious from the worthless, you shall be as My mouth. Let them turn back to you, but do not return to them.

¹³ For the sins of her prophets and the iniquities of her priests, shedding the blood of the just in her midst,

¹² And also I gave them My sabbaths to be a sign between Me and them, that they might know that I am Jehovah who sets them apart. ¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness; they did not walk in My statutes, and they despised My judgments, which if a man does, he shall even live in them. And they greatly profaned My sabbaths. And I said, I will pour out My fury on them in the wilderness to destroy them.

⁸ You have despised My holy things, and have profaned My sabbaths.

²⁰ And when they entered the nations where they went, they even profaned My holy name by saying to them, These are the people of the Jehovah, and they are gone out of His land.

²³ And they shall teach My people to discern between the holy and common, and between the unclean and the clean.

¹¹ Her heads judge for a bribe, and her priests teach for pay, and her prophets divine for silver, yet they will lean on Jehovah and say, Is not Jehovah among us? No evil can come on us! ¹² Therefore, on account of you, Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house into high places of the forest.

³ Her rulers within her are roaring lions; her judges evening wolves. They do not gnaw bones for the morning. ⁴ Her prophets are proud, men of deceit; her priests have defiled the sanctuary; they have done violence to the Law.

¹¹ So says Jehovah of Hosts: Now ask the priests the Law, saying, ¹² If one carries holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and touches his skirt to bread, or boiled food, or wine, or oil, or any food, will it become holy? And the priests answered and said, No. ¹³ Then Haggai said, If one unclean of body touches these, is it unclean? And the priests answered and said, It is unclean. ¹⁴ And Haggai answered and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before Me, says Jehovah. And so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.

⁶ A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My fear? says Jehovah of Hosts to you, O priests who despise My name. And you say, In what way have we despised Your name? ⁷ You offer defiled bread upon My altar; and you say, In what way have we defiled You? In your saying, The table of Jehovah, it is a thing to be despised. ⁸ And if you offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? And if you offer the lame and the sick, is it not evil? Bring it now to your governor. Will he accept you, or lift up your face, says Jehovah of Hosts?

¹ And now, O priests, this command is for you. ² If you will not hear, and if you will not set it on your heart to give glory to My name, says Jehovah of Hosts, then I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. And indeed I have cursed it, because you do not set it on your heart. ³ Behold, I am rebuking your seed; and I will spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your appointed feasts. And one shall lift you up to it.

⁸ But you have turned out of the way; you have caused many to stumble at the law. You have corrupted the covenant of Levi, says Jehovah of Hosts.

²⁴ For the name of God is blasphemed among the nations because of you, as it is written.
