¹² The time has come; the day has arrived. Let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn; for wrath is on all her multitude.

¹³ For this My people go into exile without knowledge, and their honorable men into famine, and his multitude is dried up with thirst. ¹⁴ So hell has enlarged itself, and opened its mouth without measure; and their glory, and their multitude, and their pride, and he who rejoices in her, shall go down into it.

¹ Behold, Jehovah empties the land and makes it bare, and distorts its face, and scatters its inhabitants. ² And as it is with the people, so it shall be with the priest; as with the servant, so with the master; as with the handmaid, so it is with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the creditor, so with the debtor.

⁷ Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum your uncle shall come to you, saying, Buy for yourself my field in Anathoth; for the right to redeem it is yours, to buy it. ⁸ So Hanameel my uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according to the Word of Jehovah and said to me, Please buy my field in Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is yours, and the right to redeem is yours. Buy it for yourself. Then I knew that this was the Word of Jehovah.

²⁴ Behold, the siege mounds have come to the city to take it; and the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the plague. And what You have spoken has happened; and, behold, You saw it. ²⁵ And You have said to me, O Lord Jehovah, Buy the field for money, and take witnesses; for the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans.

¹¹ So says the Lord Jehovah: Strike with your hand and stamp with your foot, and say, Alas, for all the evil abominations of the house of Israel! For they shall fall by the sword, and by the famine, and by the plague. ¹² He who is afar off shall die of the plague; and he who is near shall fall by the sword; and he who remains and is under siege shall die by the famine. So I will fulfill My fury on them.

⁵ So says the Lord Jehovah: An evil: Behold, an only evil has come! ⁶ An end has come, the end has come. It awakes against you; behold, it has come. ⁷ The encirclement has come to you, O dwellers of the land. The time has come, the day of tumult is near, and not a shout of the mountains.

¹⁰ Behold the day! Behold, it has come; the encirclement has gone out; the rod has blossomed; pride has budded.

¹³ For the seller shall not return to that which is sold, although they are still alive; for the vision to all her multitude shall not return, and a man shall not hold his life strong in iniquity. ¹⁴ They have blown the trumpet, even to make all ready; but none goes to the battle, for My wrath is on all her multitude.

²⁹ But this I say, brothers, The time is short. It remains that both those who have wives should be as not having one. ³⁰ And they who weep are as though they did not weep. And they who rejoice are as though they did not rejoice. And they who buy are as though they did not possess. ³¹ And they who use this world are as not abusing it, for the fashion of this world is passing away.

⁸ You also be patient, establish your hearts, for the coming of your Lord draws near. ⁹ Do not grudge against one another, brothers, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge stands before the door.
