And Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her. ³ And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spoke to the sons of Heth, saying, ⁴ I am a stranger and a visitor with you. Give me a possession of a burying place with you, so that I may bury my dead out of my sight. ⁵ And the sons of Heth answered Abraham saying to him, ⁶ Hear us, my lord. You are a mighty prince among us. Bury your dead in the choice of our burying places. None of us shall withhold from you his burying-place from burying your dead. ⁷ And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, the sons of Heth. ⁸ And he spoke with them, saying, If it is your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me, and ask for me of Ephron the son of Zohar, ⁹ that he may give me the cave of Machpelah which he has, which is in the end of his field. For as much silver as it is worth he shall give it to me for a possession of a burying-place among you. ¹⁰ And Ephron lived among the sons of Heth. And Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the ears of the sons of Heth, of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying, ¹¹ No, my lord, hear me. I give you the field, and the cave that is in it I give to you. In the presence of the sons of my people I give it to you. Bury your dead. ¹² And Abraham bowed before the people of the land. ¹³ And he spoke to Ephron in the ears of the people of the land, saying, Only if you would hear me. I will give you silver for the field. Take it from me, and I will bury my dead there. ¹⁴ And Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him, ¹⁵ My lord, listen to me. The land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that between me and you? And bury your dead. ¹⁶ And Abraham listened to Ephron. And Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver which he had named in the hearing of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, which passes with the merchant. ¹⁷ And the field of Ephron was certified, which was Machpelah, which was before Mamre; the field and the cave which was in it, and all the trees in the field, in all the borders round about, ¹⁸ to Abraham for a possession in the presence of the sons of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city. ¹⁹ And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave at the field of Machpelah before Mamre, which is Hebron, in the land of Canaan. ²⁰ And the field, and the cave that is in it, were certified to Abraham for a possession of a burying place by the sons of Heth.

¹⁷ And Abraham fell upon his face and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born to him that is a hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear?

¹⁸ And Abram moved his tent and came and lived in the oaks of Mamre, which is in Hebron. And he built an altar to Jehovah there.

¹⁹ And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave at the field of Machpelah before Mamre, which is Hebron, in the land of Canaan.

⁴¹ And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him. And Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then I will kill my brother Jacob.

¹⁰ And they came to the threshing floor of Atad, beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation. And he made a mourning for his father seven days.

²² And they went up by the south and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the sons of Anak were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

²⁹ And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, all the house of Israel.

⁸ And the sons of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days. And the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.

³⁹ And he took it, and its king, and all its cities. And they struck them with the edge of the sword, and destroyed every soul in it. He left none remaining. As he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to its king, as he had done also to Libnah, and to its king.

¹⁴ And Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, to this day, because he fully followed Jehovah, the God of Israel. ¹⁵ And the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-arba; that one was a great man among the giants. And the land had rest from war.

⁷ And they set apart Kadesh in Galilee, in the hills of Naphtali; and Shechem in the hills of Ephraim; and Kirjath-arba (it is Hebron) in the hills of Judah.

¹⁰ And Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron (and the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-arba). And they killed Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom. And now send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die.

³ And Samuel was dead, and all Israel had mourned him and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away the mediums and the spirit-knowers out of the land.

¹² And they mourned and wept and fasted until evening, for Saul, and for his son Jonathan, and for the people of Jehovah, and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.

¹⁷ And David chanted this death dirge over Saul and over his son Jonathan.

¹¹ And it happened, the number of days that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

³ And all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron. And King David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Jehovah. And they anointed David king over Israel.

⁵ In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.

⁵⁷ And to the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of refuge: Hebron, and Libnah with its open lands, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa with their open lands,

²⁵ And Jeremiah mourned for Josiah. And all the singing men and the singing women have spoken of Josiah in their lamentations until this day, and made them an ordinance in Israel. And behold, they are written in the Lamentations.

¹⁰ Weep not for the dead, nor moan for him; but weep bitterly for him who goes away. For he shall return no more, nor see his native country.

¹⁸ Therefore so says Jehovah concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, They shall not mourn for him, saying, Ah, my brother! or, Ah, sister! They shall not mourn for him, saying, Ah, lord! or, Ah, his glory!

¹⁶ Son of man, behold, I take away from you the desire of your eyes with a stroke. Yet neither shall you mourn nor weep, nor shall your tears run down. ¹⁷ Groan but be silent; make no mourning for the dead; tie your turban on you, and put your sandals on your feet, and do not cover your lips, and do not eat the bread of men. ¹⁸ So I spoke to the people in the morning. And in the evening my wife died, and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

³¹ Then the Jews who were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw that Mary rose up hastily and went out, they followed her, saying, She is going to the tomb to weep there.

³⁵ Jesus wept.

² And devout men buried Stephen and made a great mourning over him.

¹⁵ And Canaan fathered Sidon, his first-born, and Heth,

⁵ And the sons of Heth answered Abraham saying to him,

⁷ And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, the sons of Heth.

¹⁰ the field which Abraham bought from the sons of Heth. Abraham and Sarah his wife were buried there.

⁴⁶ And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, like these of the daughters of the land, what good is my life to me?

³⁰ in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, the field which Abraham bought from Ephron the Hittite for a burying-place.

⁶ And David answered and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, the brother of Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to the camp to Saul? And Abishai said, I will go down with you.

³⁹ Uriah the Hittite; thirty-seven in all.

¹⁹ In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.

⁸ And I will give the land to you in which you are a stranger, and to your seed after you, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession. And I will be their God.

⁹ And Jacob said to Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty years. Few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and I have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.

¹³ For his sons carried him to the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a burying place from Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.

²³ The land shall not be sold forever; for the land is Mine. For you are strangers and pilgrims with Me.

¹⁵ For we are strangers before You, and pilgrims, as our fathers were. Our days on the earth are like a shadow, and none abides.

²³ For I know that You will bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.

¹² Hear my prayer, O Jehovah, and give ear to my cry. Do not be silent at my tears; for I am a stranger with You, a pilgrim, as all my fathers were.

¹² when they were a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it. ¹³ When they went from one nation to another, from a kingdom to another people,

¹⁹ I am a stranger in the earth; do not hide Your Commandments from me.

³ If a man fathers a hundred, and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, and his soul is not filled with good, and also is for him no burial; I say, a miscarriage is better than he.

⁵ also they are afraid of the high place, and terrors along the way, and the almond tree shall blossom, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail; because man goes to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets;

⁷ then the dust shall return to the earth as it was, and the spirit shall return to God who gave it.

⁵ And He gave him no inheritance in it, no, not even a foot-breadth. And He promised that He would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, there being no child to him.

⁹ By faith he lived in the land of promise as a stranger, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs of the same promise with him.

¹³ These all died by way of faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off. And they were persuaded of them and embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. ¹⁴ For they who say such things declare plainly that they seek a fatherland. ¹⁵ And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from which they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. ¹⁶ But now they stretch forth to a better fatherland, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

¹¹ Dearly beloved, I exhort you as temporary residents and pilgrims to abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,

² And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver and in gold.

¹⁴ And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he led forth his trained servants, born in his own house (three hundred and eighteen) and pursued them to Dan.

¹² Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After my being old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

²² And it happened at that time, Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, spoke to Abraham, saying, God is with you in all that you do.

¹⁸ And she said, Drink, my lord. And she hurried and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave a drink to him.

³⁵ And Jehovah has blessed my master greatly, and he has become great. And He has given him flocks and herds and silver and gold, and male slaves and slave women, and camels and asses.

³⁵ But she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before you. For the custom of women is upon me. And he searched, but did not find the images.

⁴ And he commanded them, saying, So shall you speak to my lord Esau: Your servant Jacob says thus, I have lived with Laban and stayed until now. ⁵ And I have oxen and asses, flocks, and menservants, and slave women. And I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in your sight.

¹⁸ Then you shall say, Your servant Jacob's. It is a present sent to my lord Esau. And, behold, he also is behind us.

¹⁰ And they said to him, No, my lord, but your servants have come to buy food.

⁵ Is this not that in which my lord drinks, and by which indeed he divines? You have done evil in so doing.

⁸ Behold, the silver which we found in our sack's mouth, we brought it in to you out of the land of Canaan. How then should we steal out of your lord's house silver or gold?

²² And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord become hot. You know the people, that they are set on mischief.

¹³ Then she said, Let me find favor in your sight, my lord, for you have comforted me; for you have spoken kindly to your handmaid, though I am not like one of your handmaidens.

¹⁴ So says Jehovah, The labor of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia, and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come to you, and they shall be yours. They shall come after you in chains; and they shall cross in chains and they shall fall down to you. They shall plead to you, saying, Surely God is in you; and none else, no other God.

¹ Behold what manner of love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God. Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. ² Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be. But we know that when He shall be revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

² And he lifted up his eyes and looked, and lo, three men stood by him. And when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed toward the ground.

¹ And there came two angels to Sodom at evening. And Lot sat in the gate of Sodom. And Lot rose up to meet them when he saw them. And he bowed himself with his face toward the ground,

²⁴ A man who has friends may be broken up, but there is a Lover who sticks closer than a brother.

¹⁷ Repay no one evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. ¹⁸ If it is possible, as far as is in you, being in peace with all men.

¹⁴ Follow peace with all, and holiness, without which no one shall see the Lord;

⁸ And finally, all be of one mind, having compassion on one another, loving the brothers, tenderhearted, friendly.

⁹ And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre,

¹⁷ And he said, Please speak to Solomon the king, for he will not turn away your face, that he give me Abishag the Shunammite for my wife.

³ And when he heard of Jesus, he sent the elders of the Jews to Him, begging Him that He would come and heal his servant. ⁴ And coming to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that he was worthy, he for whom You give this;

²⁶ For such a high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners and made higher than the heavens,

¹ My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. ² And He is the propitiation concerning our sins, and not concerning ours only, but also concerning the sins of all the world.

¹⁷ Repay no one evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

⁸ Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves another has fulfilled the Law.

¹⁸ to Abraham for a possession in the presence of the sons of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.

¹⁰ And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed. For all the goods of his master were in his hand. And he arose, and went to Mesopotamia to the city of Nahor.

²⁰ And Hamor and Shechem his son came to the gate of their city, and talked with the men of their city, saying,

²⁴ And all that went out of the gate of his city listened to Hamor and to Shechem his son. And every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city.

¹ And Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there. And behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spoke came by. And he said, Such a one! Turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside and sat down. ² And he took ten men of the elders of the city and said, Come sit down here. And they sat down. ³ And he said to the kinsman, Naomi, who has come again out of the country of Moab, sells a parcel of land which was our brother Elimelech's. ⁴ And I said I will tell it in your ear, saying, Buy it before those who live here, and before the elders of my people. If you will redeem, redeem it. But if you will not redeem, tell me so that I may know. For there is none to redeem besides you. And I am after you. And he said, I will redeem.

⁷ when I went out to the gate by the city; when I prepared my seat in the street!

⁶ and for a spirit of judgment to him who sits in judgment, and for strength to those who turn back the battle to the gate.

¹ And He entered into a boat, and passed over, and came to His own city.

³ And all went to be registered, each to his own city. ⁴ And Joseph also went up from Galilee to be taxed (out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family line of David).

⁶ Hear us, my lord. You are a mighty prince among us. Bury your dead in the choice of our burying places. None of us shall withhold from you his burying-place from burying your dead.

³⁰ Whoever kills any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses. But one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.

⁶ At the mouth of two witnesses or three witnesses shall he that is worthy of death be put to death. At the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

¹⁵ One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sins. At the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be made sure.

¹ And Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there. And behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spoke came by. And he said, Such a one! Turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside and sat down.

⁴ And I said I will tell it in your ear, saying, Buy it before those who live here, and before the elders of my people. If you will redeem, redeem it. But if you will not redeem, tell me so that I may know. For there is none to redeem besides you. And I am after you. And he said, I will redeem.

⁹ And Boaz said to the elders and all the people, You are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech's and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, from the hand of Naomi.

¹¹ And all the people in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. May Jehovah make the woman who has come into your house like Rachel and like Leah, for these two built the house of Israel. And may you be blessed in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem.

²⁰ And Araunah looked and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him. And Araunah went out and bowed before the king, his face to the ground. ²¹ And Araunah said, Why has my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshing-floor from you, to build an altar to Jehovah, so that the plague may be stayed from the people. ²² And Araunah said to David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good to him. Behold, oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments, and instruments of the oxen for wood. ²³ All these Araunah, like a king, gave to the king. And Araunah said to the king, May Jehovah your God accept you. ²⁴ And the king said to Araunah, No, but I will surely buy from you at a price. And I will not offer burnt offerings to Jehovah my God of that which costs me nothing. And David bought the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

²² Then David said to Ornan, Give me the place of this threshing-floor, so that I may build an altar in it to Jehovah. You shall give it to me for the full price, so that the plague may be stayed from the people. ²³ And Ornan said to David, Take for yourself, and let my lord the king do what is good in his eyes. Lo, I give the oxen for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the food offering. I give it all. ²⁴ And King David said to Ornan, No, but I will truly buy it for the full silver. For I will not take what is yours for Jehovah, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.

⁸ But the noble thinks noble things; and by noble things he shall stand.

⁷ Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum your uncle shall come to you, saying, Buy for yourself my field in Anathoth; for the right to redeem it is yours, to buy it. ⁸ So Hanameel my uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according to the Word of Jehovah and said to me, Please buy my field in Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is yours, and the right to redeem is yours. Buy it for yourself. Then I knew that this was the Word of Jehovah. ⁹ And I bought the field in Anathoth, of Hanameel my uncle's son, and weighed him the silver, seventeen shekels of silver. ¹⁰ And I wrote it in the document, and sealed it, and called witnesses, and weighed the silver in the scales. ¹¹ So I took the document of the purchase, that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and the open copy. ¹² And I gave the document of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, before the eyes of Hanameel my uncle's son, and before the eyes of the witnesses who wrote in the purchase document, before all the Jews who sat in the court of the guard.

²⁴ And he said to those who stood by, Take the mina from him and give it to him who has ten minas.

²² And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand to Jehovah, the most high God, the possessor of Heaven and earth, ²³ that I will take from all that is yours, not from a thread even to a shoestring, lest you say, I have made Abram rich.

²⁴ And the king said to Araunah, No, but I will surely buy from you at a price. And I will not offer burnt offerings to Jehovah my God of that which costs me nothing. And David bought the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

³⁵ I have shown you all things, that working in this way we ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

⁵ Let your moderation be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. ⁶ Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. ⁷ And the peace of God which passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. ⁸ Finally, my brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are right, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think on these things.

⁵ Walk in wisdom toward those on the outside, redeeming the time.

⁵ Let your way of life be without the love of money, and be content with such things as you have, for He has said, "Not at all will I leave you, not at all will I forsake you, never!"

¹³ They shall give this, every one that passes among those who are counted, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary (a shekel is twenty gerahs); a half shekel shall be the offering of Jehovah.

¹⁵ The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than half a shekel, when they give an offering to Jehovah to make an atonement for your souls.

¹² And the shekel shall be twenty gerahs: twenty shekels, twenty-five shekels, fifteen shekels, shall be your maneh.

¹⁵ My lord, listen to me. The land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that between me and you? And bury your dead.

²¹ And it happened, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man's silver was in the mouth of his sack, our silver in full weight. And we have brought it again in our hands.

²⁵ And I weighed to them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, the offering of the house of our God, which the king and his counselors and his lords, and all Israel who were there, had offered. ²⁶ And I weighed into their hands six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels of a hundred talents, of gold a hundred talents, ²⁷ and twenty basins of gold of a thousand drams, and two vessels of fine copper as desirable as gold. ²⁸ And I said to them, You are holy to Jehovah, and the vessels are holy. And the silver and the gold are a free-will offering to Jehovah, the God of your fathers. ²⁹ Watch and keep them until you weigh them before the chief of the priests and the Levites, and the chief of the fathers of Israel at Jerusalem in the rooms of the house of Jehovah. ³⁰ So the priests and the Levites took the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem to the house of our God.

¹⁵ Pure gold cannot be given in its stead, and silver be weighed as its price.

⁹ And I bought the field in Anathoth, of Hanameel my uncle's son, and weighed him the silver, seventeen shekels of silver.

¹² And I said to them, If it is good, give My price; and if not, let it go. So they weighed My price thirty pieces of silver.

¹² Therefore all things, whatever you desire that men should do to you, do even so to them; for this is the Law and the Prophets.

⁸ Finally, my brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are right, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think on these things.

⁶ not to go beyond and defraud his brother in this matter (because the Lord is the avenger concerning all these, as we also have forewarned you and testified).

²⁰ And the field, and the cave that is in it, were certified to Abraham for a possession of a burying place by the sons of Heth.

²⁹ And he charged them and said to them, I am to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, ³⁰ in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, the field which Abraham bought from Ephron the Hittite for a burying-place. ³¹ They buried Abraham and his wife Sarah there, and they buried Isaac and his wife Rebekah. And I buried Leah there; ³² the purchase of the field and the cave in it, from the sons of Heth.

⁷ And this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, to confirm everything. A man plucked off his sandal and gave it to his neighbor. And this was a testimony in Israel. ⁸ Therefore the kinsman said to Boaz, Buy it for yourself. So he drew off his sandal. ⁹ And Boaz said to the elders and all the people, You are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech's and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, from the hand of Naomi. ¹⁰ And also Ruth of Moab, the wife of Mahlon, I have purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead on his inheritance, so that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brothers and from the gate of his place. You are witnesses this day.

⁵ A good man shows favor, and lends; he will guide his business with fairness.

⁷ Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum your uncle shall come to you, saying, Buy for yourself my field in Anathoth; for the right to redeem it is yours, to buy it. ⁸ So Hanameel my uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according to the Word of Jehovah and said to me, Please buy my field in Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is yours, and the right to redeem is yours. Buy it for yourself. Then I knew that this was the Word of Jehovah. ⁹ And I bought the field in Anathoth, of Hanameel my uncle's son, and weighed him the silver, seventeen shekels of silver. ¹⁰ And I wrote it in the document, and sealed it, and called witnesses, and weighed the silver in the scales. ¹¹ So I took the document of the purchase, that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and the open copy. ¹² And I gave the document of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, before the eyes of Hanameel my uncle's son, and before the eyes of the witnesses who wrote in the purchase document, before all the Jews who sat in the court of the guard. ¹³ And I commanded Baruch before them, saying, ¹⁴ So says Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel: Take these books, the purchase document, the one sealed and the open book, and put them in an earthen vessel so that they may stand many days.

¹⁶ Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be as wise as serpents and as harmless as doves.

¹⁶ and were carried over into Shechem. And they were laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a price of silver from the sons of Emmor the father of Shechem.

¹⁵ See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

¹² And I gave the document of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, before the eyes of Hanameel my uncle's son, and before the eyes of the witnesses who wrote in the purchase document, before all the Jews who sat in the court of the guard.

⁹ And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre, ¹⁰ the field which Abraham bought from the sons of Heth. Abraham and Sarah his wife were buried there.

²⁷ And Jacob came to his father Isaac, to Mamre, to the city of Arba, which is Hebron, where Abraham had lived, and Isaac. ²⁸ And the days of Isaac were a hundred and eighty years. ²⁹ And Isaac expired and died, and was gathered to his people, old and satisfied of days. And his sons, Esau and Jacob, buried him.

³⁰ But I will lie with my fathers. You shall carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their burying-place. And he said, I will do according to your words.

²⁵ And Joseph took an oath of the sons of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.

⁵ My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die. You shall bury me in my grave which I have dug for me in the land of Canaan. Now therefore, please, let me go up and bury my father, and I will come again.

²⁴ And Joseph said to his brothers, I die. And God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land into the land which He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. ²⁵ And Joseph took an oath of the sons of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.

¹⁸ And Manasseh slept with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza. And his son Amon reigned in his place.
