⁵ And the land is defiled under its people; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, and have broken the everlasting covenant.

¹⁷ And to Adam He said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it! The ground is cursed for your sake. In pain shall you eat of it all the days of your life. ¹⁸ It shall also bring forth thorns and thistles to you, and you shall eat the herb of the field.

¹¹ The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. ¹² And God looked upon the earth. And, behold, it was corrupted! For all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth. ¹³ And God said to Noah, The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them. And, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

¹³ He that is born in your house, and he that is bought with your silver, must be circumcised. And My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. ¹⁴ And the uncircumcised male child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.

²⁴ Do not defile yourselves in any of these things. For in all these the nations are defiled, which I cast out before you. ²⁵ And the land is defiled. Therefore I visit its wickedness on it, and the land itself vomits out those who live in it. ²⁶ You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations, neither the native, nor any stranger that lives among you. ²⁷ For the men of the land who were before you have done all these abominations, and the land is defiled. ²⁸ You shall not do these so that the land may not spew you out also when you defile it, as it spewed out the nations that were before you.

²² You shall therefore keep all My statutes and all My judgments, and do them, so that the land where I bring you to live shall not spit you out.

³³ So you shall not defile the land in which you are. For blood defiles the land. And the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed in it, except by the blood of him that shed it. ³⁴ So do not defile the land which you shall inhabit, in which I dwell. For I Jehovah dwell among the sons of Israel.

¹⁵ But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked. You grew fat, thick, and satisfied. Then he forsook God who made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

²⁰ And He said, I will hide My face from them; I will see what their end shall be. For they are a very perverse generation, sons in whom is no faithfulness.

²⁵ And Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.

⁵ Although my house is not so with God, yet He has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure. For all my salvation, and all my desire, will He not make it grow?

⁷ And it happened because the sons of Israel had sinned against Jehovah their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods, ⁸ and walked in the statutes of the nations whom Jehovah cast out from before the sons of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which the nations had made. ⁹ And the sons of Israel secretly did things that were not right against Jehovah their God. And they built high places in all their cities for themselves, from the Watch Tower to the fortified city. ¹⁰ And they set up images and Asherahs for themselves in every high hill, and under every green tree. ¹¹ And they burned incense in all the high places, like the nations whom Jehovah had removed from before them; and did evil things to provoke Jehovah to anger. ¹² For they served the idols, of which Jehovah had said to them, You shall not do this thing. ¹³ And Jehovah testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, by all the seers, saying, Turn from your evil ways and keep My commandments, My statutes, according to all the Law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by My servants the prophets. ¹⁴ But they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like the neck of their fathers who did not believe in Jehovah their God. ¹⁵ And they rejected His statutes and His covenant which He made with their fathers, and His testimonies which He testified against them. And they went after the vain thing, and became vain, and after the nations around them, concerning whom Jehovah had charged them not to do like them. ¹⁶ And they left all the commandments of Jehovah their God, and made molten images, two calves, for themselves. And they made an Asherah and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. ¹⁷ And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire. And they used divination and incantations, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke Him to anger. ¹⁸ So Jehovah was very angry with Israel, and turned them away from His face; not one was left, only the tribe of Judah by itself. ¹⁹ Also Judah did not keep the commandments of Jehovah their God, but walked in the statutes which Israel made. ²⁰ And Jehovah rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until He had cast them out of His sight. ²¹ For He tore Israel from the house of David. And they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king. And Jeroboam drove Israel away from following Jehovah, and made them sin a great sin. ²² For the sons of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did. They did not depart from them ²³ until Jehovah turned away Israel from His face, as He had said by all His servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria until this day.

¹³ Go inquire of Jehovah for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the Words of this Book which is found. For great is the wrath of Jehovah which is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the Words of this Book, to do according to all which is written concerning us. ¹⁴ And Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe. And she lived in Jerusalem in the second part. And they talked with her. ¹⁵ And she said to them, So says Jehovah, the God of Israel, Tell the man who sent you to me, ¹⁶ So says Jehovah, Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on the people of it, all the Words of the Book which the king of Judah has read; ¹⁷ because they have forsaken Me, and have burned incense to other gods, so that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands, therefore My wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it shall not be quenched.

²⁶ But Jehovah did not turn from the heat of His great wrath, with which His anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked Him. ²⁷ And Jehovah said, I will also remove Judah out of My sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.

⁹ And Manasseh made Judah and the people of Jerusalem to err, to do worse than the nations whom Jehovah had destroyed before the sons of Israel.

⁶ And I said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to You, my God. For our iniquities have increased over our heads, and our guiltiness has grown up to the heavens. ⁷ Since the days of our fathers we have been in a great sin until this day. And for our iniquities we, our kings, our priests, have been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to shame of face, as it is this day.

⁵ Fear and trembling have come on me, and horror has covered me.

¹⁰ and He confirmed it to Jacob for a Law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant,

³⁶ And they served their idols, which were a snare to them. ³⁷ Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, ³⁸ and shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; and the land was defiled with blood. ³⁹ And they were defiled with their works, and went lusting in their doings.

² Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for Jehovah has spoken, I have nursed and brought up sons, and they have rebelled against Me. ³ The ox knows his owner, and the ass his master's crib; but Israel does not know; My people do not understand. ⁴ Woe, sinful nation, a people heavy with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, sons who corrupt! They have forsaken Jehovah; they have provoked the Holy One of Israel to anger; they have gone away backward. ⁵ Why should you be stricken any more? You will revolt more and more; the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

⁶ I will send him against an ungodly nation, and against the people of My wrath. I will command him to take the plunder, and to strip off the spoil, and to trample them like the mud of the streets.

¹ So says Jehovah, Where is your mother's bill of divorce, whom I have put away? Or to which of My creditors have I sold you? Behold, you were sold for your iniquities, and your mother is put away for your sins.

¹ Behold, Jehovah's hand is not shortened so that it cannot save, nor is His ear heavy so that it cannot hear. ² But your iniquities have come between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, from hearing. ³ For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue has muttered perverseness.

¹² For our transgressions are multiplied before You, and our sins testify against us. For our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them; ¹³ in transgressing and lying against Jehovah, and going away from our God, talking cruelty and revolt, conceiving and speaking from the heart words of falsehood. ¹⁴ And justice is driven back, and justice stands afar off; for truth has fallen in the street, and right cannot enter. ¹⁵ Yea, truth fails; and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. And Jehovah saw, and it displeased Him that there was no judgment.

¹ They say, If a man puts away his wife, and she goes from him and will be for another man, will he return to her again? Would not that land be greatly defiled? But you play the harlot with many lovers; yet come back to Me, says Jehovah. ² Lift up your eyes to the high places, and see. Where have you not been lain with? By the highways you have sat for them, like the Arabian in the wilderness; and you have defiled the land with your fornications and with your wickedness.

⁵ They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces there, saying, Come and let us join ourselves to Jehovah in an everlasting covenant never to be forgotten.

²⁰ And the beauty of His ornament, He set it in majesty. But they made the images of their abominations and of their hateful things in it; therefore I have put it to them as an impure thing. ²¹ And I will give it into the hands of the strangers for a prize, and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil; and they shall defile it. ²² I will also turn My face from them, and they shall defile My secret place; and violent ones shall enter into it and defile it. ²³ Make a chain; for the land is full of bloody judgments, and the city is full of violence. ²⁴ And I will bring the most evil of the nations, and they shall possess their houses. I will also make the pomp of the strong to cease; and their holy places shall be defiled.

¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness; they did not walk in My statutes, and they despised My judgments, which if a man does, he shall even live in them. And they greatly profaned My sabbaths. And I said, I will pour out My fury on them in the wilderness to destroy them.

²⁴ because they had not done My judgments, but had despised My sabbaths and had profaned My sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.

²⁴ Son of man, say to her: You are a land not being cleansed, nor rained on in the day of disgust. ²⁵ A plot by her prophets is in her midst, like a roaring lion tearing the prey. They have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they multiplied her many widows in her midst. ²⁶ Her priests have broken My Law and have defiled My holy things. They have put no difference between the holy and the common, and have not taught between the unclean and the clean, and have hidden their eyes from My sabbaths, and I am defiled among them. ²⁷ Her rulers in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, to shed blood and to destroy souls, to get unjust gain. ²⁸ And her prophets have daubed themselves with lime, seeing vanity and divining lies to them, saying, So says the Lord Jehovah; when Jehovah has not spoken. ²⁹ The people of the land have used oppression and practiced robbery, and they have troubled the poor and needy. Yea, they have oppressed the stranger without right. ³⁰ And I sought for a man among them who should wall up a wall for the land, and stand in the break before me, that I should not destroy it. But I did not find one. ³¹ Therefore I have poured out My fury on them. I have burned them up with the fire of My wrath. I have given their way on their heads, says the Lord Jehovah.

²⁶ And I will cut a covenant of peace with them. It shall be an everlasting covenant with them. And I will place them, and multiply them, and will set My sanctuary in their midst forever.

²⁵ And he shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and plot to change times and laws. And they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and one-half time.

⁵ we have sinned and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from Your commandments and from Your judgments.

¹⁰ We have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah our God, to walk in His Laws which He set before us by His servants the prophets.

¹⁰ Arise and depart! For this is not your rest, because of destroying uncleanness, even a grievous destruction.

⁷ However, they worship Me in vain, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." ⁸ For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men, the dippings of pots and cups. And many other such things you do. ⁹ And He said to them, Do you do well to set aside the commandment of God, so that you may keep your own tradition?

⁶ And they were both righteous before God, walking blameless in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord.

²⁰ For the creation was not willingly subjected to vanity, but because of Him who subjected it on hope ²¹ that the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

¹ Then truly the first tabernacle had also ordinances of divine service and an earthly sanctuary.

²⁰ Now may the God of peace (who brought again our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant)
