³¹ For this city has been to Me as a cause of My anger and of My fury from the day that they built it even to this day; that I should remove it from before My face;

⁷ Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill which is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the sons of Ammon. ⁸ And likewise he did for all his foreign wives, and burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.

⁴ And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, of which Jehovah said, In Jerusalem I will put My name. ⁵ And he built altars for all the host of the heavens in the two courts of the house of Jehovah. ⁶ And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times and used fortune-tellers. And he dealt with familiar spirits and wizards. He worked much wickedness in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke Him to anger. ⁷ And he set a graven image of the Asherah which he had made in the house, of which Jehovah had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever.

¹⁶ And also Manasseh shed very much innocent blood, until he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another, besides his sin with which he made Judah to sin, in doing the evil in the sight of Jehovah.

¹⁶ So says Jehovah, Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on the people of it, all the Words of the Book which the king of Judah has read; ¹⁷ because they have forsaken Me, and have burned incense to other gods, so that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands, therefore My wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it shall not be quenched.

¹⁵ And also the altar which was at Bethel, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he broke down, and burned the high place; he stamped it to powder, and burned the Asherah.

²⁷ And Jehovah said, I will also remove Judah out of My sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.

³ Surely at the commandment of Jehovah this came on Judah, to remove them out of His sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did; ⁴ and also for the innocent blood which he shed, for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, which Jehovah would not pardon.

⁹ Shall I not judge for these things? says Jehovah. And shall not My soul be avenged on such a nation as this? ¹⁰ Go up on her vine-rows and destroy; but do not make a full end; take away her branches, for they are not Jehovah's. ¹¹ For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very deceitfully against Me, says Jehovah.

⁶ For so has Jehovah of Hosts said, Cut down trees and cast a mound against Jerusalem! She is the city to be visited; there is nothing but oppression in her midst. ⁷ As a fountain keeps fresh her waters, so she keeps fresh her evil; violence and spoil is heard in her; always before Me are grief and wounds.

¹⁴ I have also seen in the prophets of Jerusalem a horrible thing; they commit adultery and walk in falsehood. They also strengthen to the hands of evildoers, so that none returns from his evil; they are all of them like Sodom to Me, and its inhabitants like Gomorrah. ¹⁵ So Jehovah of Hosts says this concerning the prophets: Behold, I will feed them wormwood, and make them drink poisonous water; for from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has gone forth into all the land.

¹⁰ For they prophesy a lie to you, to remove you far from your land, and that I should drive you out and you should perish.

⁸ Jerusalem has grievously sinned, therefore she has been removed. All knowing her despise her because they saw her nakedness; yea, she sighs and turns backward.

² And you, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? And you shall make her know all her abominations. ³ And you shall say, So says the Lord Jehovah: The city sheds blood in her midst that her time may come, and makes idols against herself to defile herself. ⁴ You are guilty in your blood that you have shed; and you have defiled yourself in your idols you have made. And your days are brought near, and have come to your years. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations, and a mocking to all lands. ⁵ Those who are near and those far from you shall mock against you, O defiled of name, abounding in tumult. ⁶ Behold, the rulers of Israel, each man by his might, have been in you in order to shed blood. ⁷ In you they have despised father and mother. In your midst they have dealt with the stranger by oppression. In you they oppressed the orphan and the widow. ⁸ You have despised My holy things, and have profaned My sabbaths. ⁹ In you are men of slander to shed blood; and in you they eat on the mountains; in your midst they do unchaste acts. ¹⁰ In you they have uncovered their fathers' nakedness; in you they have humbled her defiled by impurity. ¹¹ And a man has done abomination with his neighbor's wife; and a man has defiled his daughter-in-law in unchaste acts; and a man has humbled within you his sister, his father's daughter. ¹² In you they have taken bribes to shed blood. You have taken usury and increase, and you gained by extortion of your neighbors, and you have forgotten Me, says the Lord Jehovah. ¹³ And behold, I have struck My palm against your unjust gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in your midst. ¹⁴ Can your heart stand, or can your hands be strong, in the day that I shall deal with you? I Jehovah have spoken, and I will act. ¹⁵ And I will scatter you among the nations and disperse you in the lands, and will destroy your uncleanness out of you. ¹⁶ And you will be profaned in you before the eyes of the nations, and you shall know that I am Jehovah. ¹⁷ And the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ¹⁸ Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to Me. All of them are bronze, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the middle of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver. ¹⁹ Therefore so says the Lord Jehovah: Because you have all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the middle of Jerusalem. ²⁰ As they gather silver, and bronze, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the middle of the furnace, to blow the fire on it to melt it, so I will gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there and melt you. ²¹ And I will gather you and blow on you in the fire of My wrath, and you shall be melted in the middle of it. ²² As silver is melted in the middle of the furnace, so you shall be melted in the middle of it; and you shall know that I Jehovah have poured out My fury on you.

³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to her, how often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!

³³ Yet I must walk today and tomorrow and the day following. For it cannot be that a prophet perish outside of Jerusalem. ³⁴ Jerusalem! Jerusalem! the one killing the prophets, and stoning those having been sent to her; how often I desired to gather your children in the way a hen gathers her brood under the wings, and you did not desire it.
