²⁰ For you used deceit against your souls when you sent me to Jehovah your God, saying, Pray for us to Jehovah our God; and according to all that Jehovah our God shall say, so declare to us, and we will do it.

³⁸ The fire-pans of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them into broad plates, a covering for the altar; for they offered them before Jehovah, therefore they are made holy. And they shall be a sign to the sons of Israel.

³ Things of iniquity are mightier than I; as for our transgressions, You shall purge them away.

¹⁰ I Jehovah search the heart, I try the reins, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

² And they said to Jeremiah the prophet, Please let our cry be pleasing to you, and pray for us to Jehovah your God, even for all this remnant, (for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes behold us),

³ Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts, and put the stumbling-block of their iniquity before their face. Should I at all be inquired of by them? ⁴ Therefore speak to them, and say to them, So says the Lord Jehovah: Every man of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart, and puts the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet; I Jehovah will answer him in it by the host of his idols;

³¹ And they come to you as the people come, and they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words. But they will not do them. For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their unjust gain.

¹⁵ Then the Pharisees left and took counsel that they might entangle Him in words. ¹⁶ And they sent their disciples out to Him along with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that you are true, and that you teach the way of God in truth. Nor do you care for anyone, for you do not regard the person of men. ¹⁷ Therefore tell us; what do you think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not? ¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why do you tempt Me, hypocrites?

³⁵ Then one of them, a lawyer, asked, tempting Him and saying,

⁷ Do not be deceived, God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that he also will reap.

²² But become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
