⁶ I listened and heard, but they did not speak right; no man repented of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? Everyone turned in their own courses, as the horse rushes into the battle.

² I will say to God, Do not condemn me; make me know why You contend with me.

²⁷ He will observe to men, and say, I have sinned and perverted righteousness; and it was not equally repaid to me, ²⁸ He has redeemed my soul from passing over into the Pit, and my life shall see the light.

¹⁹ Have you given the horse strength? Have you clothed his neck with a mane? ²⁰ Can you make him leap like a locust? The glory of his snorting is terrifying. ²¹ He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength; he goes on to meet the weapons. ²² He mocks at fear, and is not terrified; and he does not turn back from the sword. ²³ The quiver rattles against him, the glittering spear and the shield. ²⁴ He swallows the ground with quivering and rage; and he does not stand still at the sound of the trumpet. ²⁵ When the trumpet sounds, he says, Aha! And he smells the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

² Jehovah looked down from Heaven on the sons of men, to see if there were any who understood and sought God.

¹⁸ And so Jehovah waits to be gracious to you. And therefore He is exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For Jehovah is a God of judgment; blessed are all those who wait for Him.

¹⁶ And He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor. Therefore His own arm brought salvation to Him; and His righteousness sustained Him.

²⁴ a wild ass used to the wilderness; in the desire of her passion she snuffs at the wind; in her time who can turn her away? All those who seek her will not tire themselves; in her month they will find her. ²⁵ Withhold your foot from being bare, and your throat from thirst. But you said, There is no hope; no; for I have loved strangers, and after them I will go.

¹ Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in her open places, if you can find a man, if there is one who does justice, who seeks the truth; and I will pardon her.

²⁸ Because he looks carefully, and turns away from all his sins that he has committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die.

³⁰ And I sought for a man among them who should wall up a wall for the land, and stand in the break before me, that I should not destroy it. But I did not find one.

² The pious has perished from the earth, and there is none upright among men. For they all lie in wait for blood; each one hunts his brother with a net.

¹⁶ Then those fearing Jehovah spoke together, each man to his neighbor. And Jehovah listened and heard. And a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who feared Jehovah, and for those esteeming His name.

¹⁷ And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father abound in loaves, and I perish with hunger! ¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, Father, I have sinned against Heaven and before you ¹⁹ and am no more worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.

⁹ The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness, but is long-suffering toward us, not purposing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

²⁰ And the rest of the men who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and golden, and silver, and bronze, and stone, and wooden idols (which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk).
