¹ And Job answered and said, ² For truly you are the people, and wisdom will die with you. ³ But I have understanding as well as you; I do not fall short of you; yes, who does not know such things as these? ⁴ I am a laughing-stock to his friends; who calls on God, and He answers him; the just, the upright one is a mockery; ⁵ a flaming brand despised in the thoughts of him who feels secure; it is ready for those with slipping feet. ⁶ The tents of robbers are at peace, and those who provoke God are secure, in whatever God brings to their hand. ⁷ But now ask the animals, and they shall teach you; and the birds of the air, and they shall tell you; ⁸ or speak to the earth, and it shall teach you; and the fish of the sea shall declare it to you; ⁹ who of all these does not know that the hand of Jehovah has done this? ¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all flesh, even of man? ¹¹ Does not the ear try words? And does not the mouth taste its food? ¹² With the aged is wisdom, and understanding in length of days. ¹³ With Him is wisdom and strength; He has wisdom and understanding. ¹⁴ Behold, He breaks down, and it can not be built up again; He shuts up a man, and no one opens. ¹⁵ Behold, He withholds the waters, and they dry up; also He sends them out, and they overturn the earth. ¹⁶ With Him is strength and sound wisdom; the deceived and the deceiver are His. ¹⁷ He leads wise men away stripped, and makes the judges fools. ¹⁸ He cuts away the bonds of kings, and binds their loins with a girdle. ¹⁹ He leads priests away stripped, and overthrows the mighty. ²⁰ He removes the speech of the men of trust, and takes away the understanding of the aged. ²¹ He pours scorn on princes, and unties the belt of the mighty. ²² He discovers deep things out of darkness, and brings the shadow of death to light. ²³ He gives greatness to the nations, and destroys them. He spreads out the nations, and leads them away. ²⁴ He takes away the heart of the chief of the people of the land, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no path. ²⁵ They grope in the dark without light, and He makes them to stagger like a drunkard.

²⁴ Teach me, and I will be silent; and cause me to understand where I have gone astray. ²⁵ Right words are powerful, but what does your arguing argue?

⁸ For please ask of the former age, and prepare yourself to the search of their fathers, ⁹ for we are but of yesterday and know nothing, because our days on earth are a shadow. ¹⁰ Shall they not teach you, and tell you, and speak words out of their heart?

² Should not the multitude of words be answered? And should a man full of talk be justified?

⁶ and would tell you the secrets of His wisdom, that sound wisdom is manifold? Know therefore that God forgets for you some of your iniquity.

¹² For foolish man would be wise, and man is born a wild ass's colt.

² Should a wise man answer with windy knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?

⁴ For You have hidden their heart from understanding; therefore You shall not lift them up.

¹⁰ And now all of them, go back, and please come again; and I shall not find among you a wise man.

³ I have heard the rebuke meant to shame me, and the spirit of my understanding causes me to answer.

⁷ I said, Days should speak, and the multitude of years should teach wisdom. ⁸ But a spirit is in man giving them perception, even the breath of the Almighty. ⁹ It is not the great that are wise, nor the aged who understand judgment. ¹⁰ Therefore I say, Listen to me. I also will declare my opinion. ¹¹ Behold, I waited for your words; I listened to your reasons, while you searched out what to say. ¹² Yes, I listened to you, and, behold, not one of you proved Job wrong nor answered his words, ¹³ that you do not say, We have found out wisdom. God has pushed him down, not man.

¹¹ The rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the poor who has understanding searches him out.

²¹ Woe to those wise in their own eyes, and bright in their own sight!

¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are honorable, but we are despised.

⁵ For I speak to your shame. Is it so that there is not a wise one among you, not even one in your midst who shall be able to judge between his brother? ⁶ Can that which has no taste be eaten without salt? Or is there taste in the white of an egg? ⁷ My soul refuses to touch them; they are sickening food to me.

² What you know, I know also; I do not fall short of you. ³ Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to argue my case before God. ⁴ But you are imputers of lies; you are all worthless healers. ⁵ Oh that you would stop speaking entirely! And it would be your wisdom.

² How have you helped the powerless, or saved the arm that has no strength? ³ How have you advised those not wise, or fully declared wise plans? ⁴ Do not answer a fool according to his foolishness, lest you also be like him.

⁵ For I judge myself to have come behind the highest apostles in nothing.

²¹ I speak according to dishonor, as though we have been weak. But in whatever anyone dares (I speak foolishly), I also dare. ²² Are they Hebrews? I also! Are they Israelites? I also! Are they the seed of Abraham? I also! ²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as beside myself,) I am more! I have been in labors more abundantly, in stripes above measure, in prisons more, in deaths many times.

²⁹ Turn back, please let there be no sin; yea, return again, my righteousness is in this matter.

³ Should your lies make men silent? And will you mock and no one make you ashamed?

¹⁰ They have gaped on me with their mouth; and have scornfully beaten me on the cheek; they gather themselves against me.

²⁰ My friends scorn me; my eye pours out tears to God.

² Are not mockeries with me? Yea, my eye rests on their insults.

⁶ He has made me also a byword of the peoples; and I am one in whose face they spit.

³ Rise with me and I shall speak; and after I have spoken, mock on.

¹ But now those younger laugh at me, whose fathers I would have refused to set with the dogs of my flock.

⁷ All who see Me mock me; they shoot out the lip; they shake the head, saying, ⁸ He trusted on Jehovah; let Him deliver Him; let Him rescue Him, since He delights in Him!

¹⁶ with the hypocrites, mockers, for a cake, they gnashed on me with their teeth.

¹⁵ He shall call on Me, and I will answer Him; I will be with Him in trouble; I will deliver Him, and honor Him.

² He who walks in his uprightness fears Jehovah, but he who is perverse in his ways despises Him.

³ Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and inscrutable things which you do not know.

⁷ Therefore I will look to Jehovah; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me!

²⁹ And plaiting a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

⁴⁰ And they laughed at Him. But when He had put them all out, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those with Him, and went in where the child was lying.

¹⁴ And being money-lovers, all the Pharisees also heard all these things. And they derided Him.

³² And hearing of a resurrection of the dead, some indeed mocked; and others said, We will hear you again concerning this.

³⁶ And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings; yes, more, of bonds and imprisonments.

³⁵ Vengeance and retribution belong to Me. Their foot shall slide in time, for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come on them make haste.

⁵ Does the wild ass bray when he has grass? Or does the ox low over his fodder?

⁴ I also could speak as you do; if your soul were in my soul's place. I could heap up words against you, and shake my head at you.

⁵ Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.

⁵ My steps have been held in Your paths, so that my footsteps have not slipped.

¹⁸ When I said, My foot slips; Your mercy, O Jehovah, held me up.

³ Have mercy on us, O Jehovah, have mercy on us; for we are exceedingly filled with scorn. ⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the contempt of those who are at ease, with the scorn of the proud.

⁹ The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

²⁰ Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in deep darkness.

¹⁶ Give glory to Jehovah your God, before He causes darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and, while you look for light, He turns it into the shadow of death, setting up deep gloom.

¹ Woe to those at ease in Zion, and those trusting in the mountain of Samaria, who are noted as leader of the nations. And the house of Israel came to them. ² Pass to Calneh, and see; and from there go to Hamath the great. Then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms, or their border greater than your border? ³ You who put the evil day far away, and cause the seat of violence to come near; ⁴ who lie on beds of ivory, and those sprawling on their couches, and eat lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; ⁵ who chant with the mouth of the harp; they invent instruments of music for themselves, like David; ⁶ who drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the best of oils; nor do they grieve for the breaking of Joseph!

⁸ And the foolish said to the wise, Give us some of your oil, for our lamps have gone out.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat drink and be merry.

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man who was customarily clothed in purple and fine linen and making merry in luxury every day. ²⁰ And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores

²⁴ The earth is given into the hand of the wicked; He covers the faces of its judges; if it is not He, then who is it?

⁷ Why do the wicked live? They grow old and become mighty in power. ⁸ Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes. ⁹ Their houses are in peace, without fear; nor is the rod of God on them. ¹⁰ Their bull mates and does not fail; their cow calves, and does not cast her calf. ¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. ¹² They lift up voice at the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the flute. ¹³ They spend their days in good, and in a moment go down to the grave. ¹⁴ And they say to God, Depart from us; for we do not desire the knowledge of Your ways; ¹⁵ what is the Almighty, that we should serve Him? And what profit should we have if we pray to Him?

¹⁸ Yet He filled their houses with substance; and the wisdom of the wicked is far from me.

¹⁴ from men by Your hand, O Jehovah, from men of the world whose portion is in this life, and whose belly You fill with Your treasure. They are satisfied with sons, and will leave their riches to their babes.

¹ A Psalm of David. Do not fret yourself with evil doers; and do not be envious against the workers of iniquity.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked ruthless, and spreading himself like a luxuriant native tree.

¹¹ And they say, How does God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High? ¹² Behold, these are the ungodly, who are at ease in the world; they increase in riches.

²⁷ Like a cage full of birds, so their houses are full of deceit; therefore they have become great and grown rich.

²⁹ Did you not ask those who go by the way? And do you not know their signs, ³⁰ that the wicked is kept for the day of calamity? They shall be brought to the day of wrath.

⁶ Go to the ant, sluggard; consider her ways and be wise;

³ The ox knows his owner, and the ass his master's crib; but Israel does not know; My people do not understand.

⁷ Yea, the stork in the heavens knows her seasons; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow watch the time of their coming; but my people do not know the judgment of Jehovah.

¹⁷ and so that you might not say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth. ¹⁸ But you shall remember Jehovah your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, so that He may confirm His covenant which He has sworn to your fathers, as it is today.

⁷ Jehovah takes away, and He gives riches; He brings low; yea, He lifts up high.

³ But I have understanding as well as you; I do not fall short of you; yes, who does not know such things as these?

²⁰ so that they may see, and know, and look on, and understand together, that the hand of Jehovah has done this, and the Holy One of Israel has created it.

⁵ I have made the earth, man, and the animals on the face of the earth, by My great power and by My outstretched arm, and have given it to whom it seemed right to Me. ⁶ And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant. And I have also given him the beast of the field to serve him.

¹⁸ O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honor.

¹⁷ And now, O our God, hear the prayer of Your servant, and his holy desires, and cause Your face to shine on Your sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.

³⁵ And quieting the crowd, the town clerk said, Men, Ephesians! What one of you does not know that the city of the Ephesians is a worshiper of the great goddess Artemis, and of That Fallen from the Sky?

³⁶ For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things; to Him be glory forever! Amen.

⁵ Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He has promised to those who love Him? ⁶ But you dishonored the poor one. Do not rich men oppress you and draw you before the judgment seats? ⁷ Do they not blaspheme that worthy Name by which you are called?

⁷ And Jehovah God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

¹⁷ And behold! I, even I, am bringing a flood of waters upon the earth in order to destroy all flesh (in which is the breath of life) from under the heavens. Everything which is in the earth shall die.

²² And they fell upon their faces and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin and will You be angry with all the congregation?

³ As long as my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils,

⁴ The Spirit of God made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

¹⁴ If He sets His heart on man, if He gathers to Himself his spirit and his breath, ¹⁵ all flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again to dust.

²⁹ You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.

³ Do not put your trust in princes, nor in the son of man in whom there is no salvation. ⁴ His breath goes forth; he returns to the earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

²³ But you have lifted up yourself against the Lord of Heaven. And they have brought the vessels of His house before you; and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver, and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know. And you have not glorified the God in whose hand is your breath and all your ways.

⁶ That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

²⁵ nor is served with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives life and breath and all things to all.

²⁸ For in Him we live and move and have our being, as also certain of your own poets have said, For we are also His offspring.

³⁰ Is there wrong in my tongue? Cannot my taste discern desirable things?

³ For the ear tries words, as the palate tastes food.

¹⁵ I speak as to wise men; you judge what I say.

¹⁰ that you may distinguish between things that differ, that you may be sincere and without offense until the day of Jesus Christ,

¹⁴ But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, even those who because of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

³ if truly you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

⁸ For please ask of the former age, and prepare yourself to the search of their fathers,

¹⁰ With us are both the gray-headed and aged, mightier than your father as to days.

⁷ I said, Days should speak, and the multitude of years should teach wisdom.

⁴ He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against Him and been blessed;

¹⁶ With Him is strength and sound wisdom; the deceived and the deceiver are His.

²⁰ From where then does wisdom come, and where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Yea, it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and hidden from the birds of the heavens. ²² The place of ruin and death say, We have heard the fame of it with our ears. ²³ God understands the way of it, and He knows its place. ²⁴ For He looks to the end of the earth, and sees under all the heavens; ²⁵ making a weight for the winds, and measuring out the waters by measure. ²⁶ When He made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning to thunder; ²⁷ then He saw it, and declared it; He prepared it, yea, and searched it out. ²⁸ And to man He said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom! And to depart from evil is understanding!

⁶ And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and you are very old; therefore I was afraid, and dared not show you my opinion. ⁷ I said, Days should speak, and the multitude of years should teach wisdom. ⁸ But a spirit is in man giving them perception, even the breath of the Almighty. ⁹ It is not the great that are wise, nor the aged who understand judgment.

⁵ Behold, God is mighty, and does not despise; He is mighty in strength of heart.

³⁶ Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the mind?

⁵ Great is our LORD, and of great power; There is no limit to His understanding.

⁶ For Jehovah gives wisdom; out of His mouth come knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound wisdom for the righteous; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly.

¹⁴ Counsel and sound wisdom are mine; I am understanding; I have strength.

¹³ Who has directed the Spirit of Jehovah, and what man taught Him counsel? ¹⁴ With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him and taught Him in the path of judgment, and taught Him knowledge, and made known the way of understanding to Him?

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning, and from the past things which were not done, saying, My purpose shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure;

¹² He has made the earth by His power; He has established the world by His wisdom, and has stretched out the heavens by His judgment.

²⁰ Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are His.

¹⁵ For I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

³⁴ For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor?

²⁴ But to them, the called-out ones, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

⁸ which He caused to abound toward us in all wisdom and understanding;

¹¹ in whom also we have been chosen to an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His own will,

³ in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

⁵ But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and with no reproach, and it shall be given to him.

⁴⁶ Jehovah will deliver you into my hand today, and I will strike you and take your head from you and give the bodies of the army of the Philistines to the birds of the air today, and to the wild beasts of the earth, so that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

¹⁸ And you have shown this day how you have dealt well with me, because when Jehovah shut me up into your hand, you did not kill me.

⁸ And Abishai said to David, God has shut up your enemy into your hand this day. And please let me strike him with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not repeat it to him.

¹² Behold, He takes away; who can turn Him back? Who will say to Him, What are You doing? ¹³ God will not withdraw His anger; the helpers of pride stoop under Him.

¹⁰ If He passes through and shuts up, or gathers together, then who can turn Him back?

¹¹ God has delivered me to the perverse; and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.

¹⁰ He has broken me on every side, and I am gone, and He has uprooted my hope like a tree.

⁷ He seals up the hand of every man, so that all men may know His work.

²³ I will also make it a possession of the hedgehog, and pools of water; and I will sweep it with the broom of ruin, says Jehovah of Hosts.

²² And the key of the house of David I will lay on his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.

² For You have made a heap from a city; a fortified city into a ruin; a citadel of foreigners to be no city; it shall never be built.

⁵⁸ So says Jehovah of Hosts: The broad walls of Babylon shall be completely broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labor in vain, and the people shall be in the fire, and they shall be weary.

⁶⁴ And you shall say, In this way shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring on her. And they shall be weary. So far are the words of Jeremiah.

⁴ If Edom says, We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places. So says Jehovah of Hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them the region of wickedness, and the people with whom Jehovah is indignant forever.

³² For God has shut up all in unbelief, so that He might show mercy to all.

⁷ And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: He who is holy, He who is true, He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts; and shuts and no one opens, says these things:

¹³ And God said to Noah, The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them. And, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

¹¹ In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, in the seventeenth day of the month, in this day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of the heavens were opened up.

¹⁷ and Jehovah's wrath be kindled against you, and He shut up the heavens so that there will be no rain, and so that the land will not yield her fruit, and you perish quickly from off the good land which Jehovah gives you.

³⁵ When the heavens are restrained, and there is no rain because they have sinned against You, if they pray toward this place and confess Your name, and turn from their sin when You afflict them, ³⁶ then hear in Heaven and forgive the sin of Your servants, and of Your people Israel, for You shall teach them the good way in which they should walk, and give rain on Your land which You have given to Your people for an inheritance.

¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, of the sojourners of Gilead, said to Ahab, As Jehovah, the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except according to my word.

¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all flesh, even of man?

⁷ At Your rebuke they flee; at the voice of Your thunder they hurry away. ⁸ They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys to the place which You have founded for them. ⁹ You have set a bound that they may not pass over, so that they do not turn again to cover the earth.

²² Are there any among the vanities of the nations who make rain fall? Or can the heavens give showers? Is it not You, O Jehovah our God? Then we will wait on You; for You do all these things.

⁸ seek Him who created the Pleiades and Orion, and who turned the deep darkness into the morning and He darkened the day into night. Seek Him who calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the face of the earth; Jehovah is His name;

⁴ He rebukes the sea and makes it dry, and dries up all the rivers; Bashan and Carmel wither, and the flower of Lebanon withers.

²⁵ But I tell you truly, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land.

¹⁷ Elijah was a man of like passion as we are. And he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for the time of three years and six months. ¹⁸ And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth caused its fruit to sprout.

⁶ These have authority to shut up the heaven, that it may not rain in the days of their prophecy. And they have authority over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they desire.

²² And Jehovah said to him, With what? And he said, I will go forth and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And He said, You shall entice him and succeed also. Go forth and do so. ²³ And now, behold, Jehovah has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and Jehovah has spoken evil concerning you.

¹³ With Him is wisdom and strength; He has wisdom and understanding.

⁷ Would you speak unrighteously for God, and talk deceitfully for Him?

⁹ Is it good that He should search you out? Or as one man mocks another, do you mock Him?

⁹ And the prophet, if he is deceived, and he speaks a word, I Jehovah have deceived that prophet. And I will stretch out My hand on him and will destroy him in the midst of My people Israel.

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil. For Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

³¹ And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O Jehovah, I pray You, turn the advice of Ahithophel to foolishness.

¹⁴ And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For Jehovah had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Jehovah might bring evil on Absalom.

²³ And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, even he saddled the ass and arose, and went home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order. And he hanged himself and died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.

¹⁴ with kings and wise men of the earth, who built ruins for themselves,

¹² Where are they? Where are your wise men? And let them tell you now, and let them know what Jehovah of Hosts has planned against Egypt. ¹³ The rulers of Zoan have become fools, the rulers of Noph are deceived; they have also caused Egypt to go astray, the chief of her tribes. ¹⁴ Jehovah has mixed a perverse spirit in its midst; and they have caused Egypt to go astray in all its work, like a drunkard staggers in his vomit.

¹⁴ therefore, behold, I will go on doing among this people, a wonder, even a wonder. For the wisdom of their wise ones shall perish, and the understanding of their intelligent ones shall be hidden.

¹⁹ For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the understanding of the perceiving ones." ²⁰ Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the lawyer of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

¹¹ And Jehovah brought on them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh among the thorns and bound him with chains and carried him to Babylon. ¹² And when he was in affliction, he sought Jehovah his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. ¹³ And he prayed to Him, and He was entreated of him, and heard his prayer, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. And Manasseh knew that Jehovah is God. ¹⁴ And after this he built a wall outside the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entrance of the Fish Gate, and went around Ophel, and raised it to a very great height. And he put army commanders in all the fortified cities of Judah.

¹⁶ O Jehovah, truly I am Your servant; I am Your servant, and the son of Your handmaid; You have loosed my bonds.

³¹ And it happened in the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, in the twenty-fifth of the month, Evil-merodach king of Babylon in the first year of his reign lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him out from prison, ³² and spoke kindly to him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings who were with him in Babylon. ³³ And he changed his prison garments, and he ate bread before him all the days of his life. ³⁴ And his allowance in continual allowance was given him from the king of Babylon, the matter of a day in its day, until the day of his death, all the days of his life.

²¹ And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.

¹⁶ And He has on His garment, and on His thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

²⁴ And it happened, when they brought out those kings to Joshua, Joshua called for all the men of Israel. And he said to the commanders of the men of war who had gone with him, Draw near, set your feet on the necks of these kings. And they drew near and put their feet on their necks.

⁴² And Joshua took all these kings and their land at one time, because Jehovah, the God of Israel fought for Israel.

⁴⁵ And David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of Jehovah of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. ⁴⁶ Jehovah will deliver you into my hand today, and I will strike you and take your head from you and give the bodies of the army of the Philistines to the birds of the air today, and to the wild beasts of the earth, so that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

²² He also draws the mighty with his power; he rises up, and no one is sure of life.

²⁸ so as to cause the cry of the poor to come to Him, for He hears the cry of the afflicted.

⁹ From the host of tyrannies they cry out; they cry out because of the arm of the multitude.

³⁶ Then the angel of Jehovah went out and struck a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the camp of Assyria. And they rose early in the morning, and behold! They were all dead corpses. ³⁷ And Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and lived at Nineveh. ³⁸ And it happened as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons struck him with the sword. And they escaped into the land of Ararat; and Esar-haddon his son reigned in his place.

¹ So says Jehovah to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have made strong in order to humble nations before him. And I will loosen the loins of kings, to open before him the two-leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut.

¹⁴ These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them. For He is Lord of lords and King of kings. And those with Him are the called and elect and faithful ones.

¹⁹ And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth and their armies, being gathered to make war against Him who sat on the horse, and against His army. ²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet doing signs before it, (by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast), and those who had worshiped his image. The two were thrown alive into the Lake of Fire burning with brimstone. ²¹ And the rest were slain by the sword of Him who sat on the horse, it proceeding out of His mouth. And all the birds were filled from their flesh.

²⁴ He takes away the heart of the chief of the people of the land, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no path.

⁹ It is not the great that are wise, nor the aged who understand judgment.

¹⁷ because God has caused her to forget wisdom, and He has not given her a share in understanding.

²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many; but fools die for lack of wisdom.

¹⁹ The lips of truth shall be established forever, but only while I wink is a lying tongue.

²² Lying lips are hateful to Jehovah, but those who deal truly are His delight.

¹ For behold, the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread and the whole stay of water, ² the mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient, ³ the captain of fifty, and the honorable man, and the adviser, and the skilled worker, and the expert charmer.

² And if you refuse to let them go, behold, I am going to strike all your borders with frogs.

²⁴ And they laid it up until the morning, as Moses said. And it did not stink, neither was there any worm in it.

²³ And Jehovah also spoke of Jezebel saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel. ²⁴ He who dies of Ahab in the city, the dogs shall eat. And he who dies in the field, the birds of the air shall eat.

²⁶ Surely, yesterday I have seen the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons, says Jehovah, and I will repay you in this portion, says Jehovah. And now, take him and throw him into the portion, according to the Word of Jehovah.

³⁴ And when he had come in, he ate and drank, and said, Go, now see this cursed woman and bury her. For she is a king's daughter. ³⁵ And they went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands. ³⁶ And they came again and told him. And he said, This is the Word of Jehovah which He spoke by His servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel the dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel. ³⁷ And the dead body of Jezebel shall be as dung on the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel, so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.

⁴⁰ He pours scorn on nobles, and causes them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no path.

²⁷ None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the waistcoat of their loins be loosened, nor the thong of their sandals be broken;

⁵ And righteousness shall be the girdle of His loins, and faithfulness the girdle of His heart.

²¹ and I will clothe him with your robe, and will fasten your girdle on him, and I will give your authority into his hand. And he shall be a father to the people of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.

⁹ Jehovah of Hosts has purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory and to bring into contempt all the weighty of the earth.

²¹ And it shall be in that day, Jehovah shall punish the host of the high place on high, and on the kings of the earth on the earth. ²² And they shall be gathered, as prisoners are gathered in a dungeon. And they shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days they shall be judged.

³⁸ And it happened as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons struck him with the sword. And they escaped into the land of Ararat; and Esar-haddon his son reigned in his place.

²¹ And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. ²² He reveals the deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him.

³² And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field. They shall make you eat grass like oxen, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He will. ³³ The same hour the thing was fulfilled on Nebuchadnezzar. And he was driven from men, and ate grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the heavens, until his hair had grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

¹² And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. ¹³ And when they had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise and take the young child and His mother and flee into Egypt. And be there until I bring you word, for Herod is about to seek the child to destroy Him.

²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give God the glory. And he was eaten by worms and gave up the spirit.

¹⁰ Finally, my brothers, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

¹⁴ Therefore stand, having your loins girded about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness

¹² And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king, but Elisha the prophet, who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.

⁵ Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it. Let a cloud dwell upon it; Let the blackness of the day terrify it.

¹⁷ For the morning is to them like the shadow of death; for they know the terrors of the shadow of death.

²⁰ From where then does wisdom come, and where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Yea, it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and hidden from the birds of the heavens. ²² The place of ruin and death say, We have heard the fame of it with our ears. ²³ God understands the way of it, and He knows its place.

²² There is no darkness, nor shadow of death to hide there the workers of iniquity.

²¹ shall not God search this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.

¹² Yea, the darkness does not hide from You; but the night shines as the day; as is the darkness, so is the light to You.

²² He reveals the deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him.

²⁶ Therefore do not fear them, for there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, and nothing hidden which shall not be known.

⁷⁹ to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

¹⁰ But God has revealed them to us by His Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts. And then shall each one have praise of God.

⁷ And the sons of Israel were fruitful, and increased very much, and multiplied, and became exceedingly mighty. And the land was filled with them.

²⁰ And God dealt well with the midwives. And the people multiplied and became very mighty.

³⁸ He also blesses them, so that they are multiplied greatly; and does not allow their cattle to become few.

³ You have multiplied the nation. You have not increased the joy. They rejoice before You according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

¹⁵ You have increased the nation, O Jehovah, You have increased the nation; You are glorified; You have extended all the ends of the land.

⁶ He shall cause those who come from Jacob to take root; Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.

² Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah who bore you; for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him.

²² A little one will become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I Jehovah will hasten it in its time.

¹⁹ And out of them shall come thanksgiving, and the voice of those who rejoice. And I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

²² As the host of the heavens cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, so I will multiply the seed of David My servant and the Levites who minister to Me.

⁸ I will hiss for them and gather them; for I have redeemed them. And they shall be many as they were many.

²⁰ He removes the speech of the men of trust, and takes away the understanding of the aged.

⁴ They wandered in the wilderness, in a desert by the way; they found no city to dwell in.

⁹ And He said, Go, and tell this people, You hear indeed, but do not understand; and seeing you see, but do not know. ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn back, and be healed.

¹ The burden against Egypt: Behold, Jehovah rides on a swift cloud and comes into Egypt. And the idols of Egypt shall tremble at His presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in its midst.

¹⁶ Let his heart be changed from man's, and let the heart of an animal be given to him. And let seven times pass over him.

³³ The same hour the thing was fulfilled on Nebuchadnezzar. And he was driven from men, and ate grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the heavens, until his hair had grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

¹¹ Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart; they call to Egypt; they go to Assyria.

¹¹ And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

²⁹ And you shall grope at noonday, as the blind gropes in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways. And you shall always be pressed down and spoiled forever, and no man shall save you.

¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope in the noonday as in the night.

²⁷ They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and all their wisdom is swallowed up.

¹⁴ Jehovah has mixed a perverse spirit in its midst; and they have caused Egypt to go astray in all its work, like a drunkard staggers in his vomit.

²⁰ Like a drunkard the earth is staggering, staggering! And it rocks to and fro like a tree-hut! And its sins heavy on it; and it shall fall and not rise again.

¹⁰ We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes. We stumble at noonday as in the night; we are in deserted places like dead men.

¹¹ And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you. And you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a while. And immediately a mist and a darkness fell on him, and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

¹¹ But he who hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because darkness has blinded his eyes.
