¹⁹ And Joshua said to the people, You cannot serve Jehovah, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God. He will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.

⁵ You shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them. For I Jehovah your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons to the third and fourth generation of those that hate me,

²¹ Be on guard before Him, and obey His voice. Do not provoke Him, for He will not pardon your transgressions. For My name is in Him.

⁷ keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the sons, and on the sons of sons, to the third and to the fourth generation.

¹⁴ For you shall worship no other god. For Jehovah, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God;

³ Then Moses said to Aaron, It is that which Jehovah spoke, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.

² Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy, for I, Jehovah your God, am holy.

²⁶ And you shall be holy to Me. For I, Jehovah, am holy, and have severed you from the nations, so that you should be Mine.

²³ And now put away the strange gods among you, and incline your heart to Jehovah, the God of Israel.

¹⁴ And therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering forever.

²⁰ And the men of Beth-shemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy Jehovah God? And to whom shall He go up from us?

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God and despised His words, and ill-treated His prophets until the wrath of Jehovah arose against His people, until there was no healing.

⁵ Praise Jehovah our God, and worship at His footstool; He is holy.

¹⁶ But Jehovah of Hosts is exalted in judgment, and God the Holy One is sanctified in righteousness.

For I am undone; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of Hosts.

¹¹ When its branches are dried up, they shall be broken off; the women come and set them on fire; for it is a people of no understanding. Therefore His Maker will not have mercy on them, and He who formed them will not favor them.

¹⁵ For so says the Lord Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, In returning and rest you shall be saved; and in quietness and hope shall be your strength. And you were not willing.

¹³ You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and can not look upon vexation. Why do You look upon those who deal deceitfully? Will you be silent when the wicked swallows one more righteous than he?

²⁴ No one can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

²⁵ And great crowds went with Him. And He turned and said to them, ²⁶ If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. ²⁷ And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me, he cannot be My disciple. ²⁸ For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he may have enough to finish it; ²⁹ lest perhaps, after he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish, all those seeing begin to mock him, ³⁰ saying, This man began to build and was not able to finish. ³¹ Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not first sit down and consult whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? ³² Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. ³³ So then, everyone of you who does not forsake all his possessions, he cannot be My disciple.

²⁰ But I say that the things which the nations sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God. And I do not desire that you should have fellowship with demons. ²¹ You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot be partakers of the Lord's table and of a table of demons. ²² Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?
