¹ For behold, the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread and the whole stay of water, ² the mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient, ³ the captain of fifty, and the honorable man, and the adviser, and the skilled worker, and the expert charmer. ⁴ And I will give young boys to be their rulers, and caprices shall rule over them. ⁵ And the people shall be crushed, every man by another, and every man by his neighbor; the boy shall act proudly against the old man, and the low against the honorable. ⁶ When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, You have clothing, you be our ruler, and let this ruin be under your hand; ⁷ in that day he shall swear, saying, I will not be a healer; there is no bread nor a cloak in my house. You shall not make me a ruler of the people. ⁸ For Jerusalem is ruined and Judah has fallen; because their tongue and their doings are against Jehovah, to provoke the eyes of His glory.

³ And what will you do in the day of judgment and in destruction, of ruin when it comes from afar? To whom will you flee for help? And where will you leave your glory?

¹³ therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant.

¹² They shall call its nobles to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her rulers shall be nothing.

¹ So says Jehovah, Where is your mother's bill of divorce, whom I have put away? Or to which of My creditors have I sold you? Behold, you were sold for your iniquities, and your mother is put away for your sins.

⁹ In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the Angel of His Presence saved them; in His love and in His pity He redeemed them; and He bore them, and carried them all the days of old.

¹³ For My people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me, the Fountain of living waters, to hew out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.

²⁸ But where are your gods that you have made for yourselves? Let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble; for according to the number of your cities are your gods, O Judah.

⁷ The instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck it up and to pull it down, and to destroy it; ⁸ if that nation, against whom I have spoken, will turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them.

²⁰ Is Ephraim My dear son? Is he a delightful child? For as often as I spoke against him, I earnestly remember him still. Therefore My heart is troubled for him; I will surely have mercy on him, says Jehovah.

²⁵ You have built your high place at the head of every way, and have made your beauty to be despised, and have opened your feet to everyone who passed by, and have multiplied your fornications. ²⁶ You have also whored with the Egyptians, your neighbors great of flesh, and have multiplied your fornications to provoke Me to anger.

³⁰ So I will judge you, O house of Israel, each one of you according to his ways, says the Lord Jehovah. Turn and be made to turn from all your sins; and iniquity shall not be your stumbling-block. ³¹ Cast away from you all your sins by which you have sinned; and make you a new heart and a new spirit; for why will you die, O house of Israel? ³² For I have no delight in the death of him who dies, says the Lord Jehovah. Therefore turn and live.

⁸ How shall I give you up, Ephraim? How shall I deliver you, Israel? How shall I make you like Admah? How shall I set you as Zeboim? My heart is turned within Me; My compassions are kindled together.

¹ O Israel, return to Jehovah your God, for you have fallen by your iniquity. ² Take with you words, and turn to Jehovah. Say to Him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously, that we may repay with the calves of our lips. ³ Assyria shall not save us; we will not ride on horses. Nor shall we say any more to the work of our hands, Our gods, for in You the fatherless finds mercy.

⁸ Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him and watched him; I am like a green fir tree. Your fruit is found from Me.

⁴ Then I said, I am cast off from Your eyes, yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.

⁸ They who take heed to lying vanities forsake their kindness;

⁹ Who knows? He may repent, and God may have pity and turn away from the glow of His anger, so that we do not perish.

² God is jealous, and Jehovah revenges; Jehovah revenges and is a possessor of wrath. Jehovah takes vengeance against His foes, and He keeps wrath against His enemies.

⁶ Who can stand before His fury? And who can stand up in the heat of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken down because of Him.

²⁰ And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

⁴¹ And as He drew near, He beheld the city and wept over it,

³⁴ And He said, Where have you laid him? They said to Him, Lord, come and see.

³² And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you.

³ For when they shall say, Peace and safety! Then sudden destruction comes on them, as travail upon a woman with child. And they shall not escape.

¹⁰ Therefore I was grieved with that generation and said, They always err in their heart, and they have not known My ways.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted just as we are, yet without sin.

²⁹ By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, which the Egyptians attempting to do were drowned.

⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us.
