⁶ Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

³⁰ And Caleb stilled the people before Moses and said, Let us go up at once and possess it. For we are well able to overcome it.

⁶ And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, of those that searched the land, tore their clothes.

²⁴ But My servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and has followed Me fully, I will bring him into the land into which he went. And his seed shall possess it.

³⁰ you shall certainly not come into the land which I swore to make you live in, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

³⁸ But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, of the men that went to spy out the land, lived.

⁶⁵ For Jehovah had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not a man left of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

¹⁵ And Moses spoke to Jehovah, saying, ¹⁶ Let Jehovah, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation ¹⁷ who may go out before them, and who may go in before them, and who may lead them out, and who may bring them in, so that the congregation of Jehovah may not be as sheep which have no shepherd. ¹⁸ And Jehovah said to Moses, Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand upon him. ¹⁹ And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation, and give him a charge in their sight. ²⁰ And you shall put of your honor on him, so that all the congregation of the sons of Israel may be obedient. ²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask for him according to the judgment of Urim before Jehovah. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, he and all the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation. ²² And Moses did as Jehovah commanded him. And he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation. ²³ And he laid his hands upon him and gave him a charge, even as Jehovah commanded by the hand of Moses.

¹⁹ And the names of the men are these. Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

⁷ And Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage. For you must go with this people to the land which Jehovah has sworn to their fathers to give it to them, and you shall cause them to inherit it. ⁸ And Jehovah is He who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not fail you nor forsake you. Do not fear; nor be dismayed. ⁹ And Moses wrote this Law and delivered it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and to all the elders of Israel. ¹⁰ And Moses commanded them, saying: At the end of seven years, at the set time of the year of release, in the Feast of Tabernacles, ¹¹ when all Israel has come to appear before Jehovah your God in the place which He shall choose, you shall read this Law before all Israel in their hearing. ¹² Gather the people, men and women and the little ones, and your stranger who is within your gates, so that they may hear and that they may learn and fear Jehovah your God, and be careful to do all the words of this Law, ¹³ and that their sons who have not known may hear and learn to fear Jehovah your God, as long as you live in the land where you go over Jordan to possess it. ¹⁴ And Jehovah said to Moses, Behold, your days are coming near to die. Call Joshua and present yourselves in the tabernacle of the congregation, and I shall charge him. And Moses and Joshua went. And they presented themselves in the tabernacle of the congregation. ¹⁵ And Jehovah appeared in the tabernacle in a pillar of a cloud. And the pillar of the cloud stood over the door of the tabernacle. ¹⁶ And Jehovah said to Moses, Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers. And this people shall rise up and go lusting after the gods of the strangers of the land into which they are going, into their midst. And they will forsake Me and break My covenant which I made with them. ¹⁷ Then My anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them. And I will hide My face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them, so that they will say in that day, Have not these evils come on us because our God is not among us?

⁶ Then the sons of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal. And Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, said to him, You know the thing that Jehovah said to Moses the man of God in Kadesh-barnea regarding you and me. ⁷ I was forty years old when Moses the servant of Jehovah sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land. And I brought him word again as it was in my heart. ⁸ But my brothers that went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I fully followed Jehovah my God. ⁹ And Moses swore on that day, saying, Surely the land on which your feet have trodden shall be your inheritance, and your sons' forever because you have fully followed Jehovah my God. ¹⁰ And now, behold, Jehovah has kept me alive these forty-five years as He said, even since Jehovah spoke this word to Moses, while Israel wandered in the wilderness. And now, lo, I am eighty-five years old today. ¹¹ As yet I am as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me. As my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out and to come in. ¹² And now give me this mountain of which Jehovah spoke on that day. For you heard in that day how the giants were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. If Jehovah will be with me, then I will be able to drive them out, as Jehovah said. ¹³ And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. ¹⁴ And Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, to this day, because he fully followed Jehovah, the God of Israel. ¹⁵ And the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-arba; that one was a great man among the giants. And the land had rest from war.

¹³ And he gave a part among the sons of Judah to Caleb the son of Jephunneh, according to the command of Jehovah to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak; it is Hebron. ¹⁴ And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the sons of Anak. ¹⁵ And he went up from there to those who lived in Debir. And the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher. ¹⁶ And Caleb said, He who smites Kirjath-sepher, and takes it, I will give my daughter Achsah to him for a wife. ¹⁷ And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it. And he gave him Achsah his daughter for a wife. ¹⁸ And it happened as she came, she moved him to ask a field from her father. And she dismounted from the ass. And Caleb said to her, What do you desire? ¹⁹ She answered, Give me a blessing, for you have given me a south land. Give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

¹² And Caleb said, He who strikes Kirjath-sepher and takes it, I will give Achsah my daughter to him for a wife. ¹³ And Othniel, the son of Caleb's younger brother Kenaz, took it. And he gave him Achsah his daughter for a wife. ¹⁴ And it happened when she came, she moved him to ask for a field from her father. And she dismounted from the ass. And Caleb said to her, What do you desire? ¹⁵ And she said to him, Give me a blessing. For you have given me a south land. Give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

¹⁵ And the sons of Caleb the son of Jephunneh: Iru, Elah, and Naam. And the son of Elah was Kenaz.

¹⁰ And all the multitude of the people were praying outside at the time of incense. ¹¹ And an angel of the Lord appeared to him as he was standing on the right of the altar of incense. ¹² And seeing this, Zacharias was troubled, and fear fell on him. ¹³ But the angel said to him, Do not fear, Zacharias. For your prayer is heard, and your wife Elizabeth shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. ¹⁴ And you shall have joy and gladness, and many shall rejoice at his birth. ¹⁵ For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall neither drink wine nor strong drink. And he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.
