¹ He that separates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound wisdom. ² A fool has no delight in understanding, but only that his heart may lay itself bare. ³ When the wicked comes, scorn also comes, and with shame comes reproach. ⁴ The words of a man's mouth are like deep waters; the fountain of wisdom is like a flowing stream. ⁵ It is not good to favor the person of the wicked, nor to overthrow the righteous in judgment. ⁶ A fool's lips enter into argument, and his mouth calls for strokes. ⁷ A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul. ⁸ The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. ⁹ Also he who is slack in his work is brother to a great destroyer. ¹⁰ The name of Jehovah is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. ¹¹ The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own mind. ¹² Before shattering, the heart of man is proud, and before honor is humility. ¹³ If one answers a matter before he hears, it is folly and shame to him. ¹⁴ The spirit of a man will nourish his sickness, but a wounded spirit who can bear? ¹⁵ The heart of the prudent gets knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge. ¹⁶ A man's gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men. ¹⁷ The first in his cause seems just, but his neighbor comes and searches him. ¹⁸ The lot causes arguments to cease, and divides between the mighty. ¹⁹ A brother offended is like a strong city; and their disagreements are like the bars of a fortress. ²⁰ A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; he shall be satisfied with the product of his lips. ²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it shall eat the fruit of it. ²² Whoever finds a wife finds good and gets favor from Jehovah. ²³ The poor speaks humble requests, but the rich answers roughly. ²⁴ A man who has friends may be broken up, but there is a Lover who sticks closer than a brother.

¹⁶ For in what shall it be known that I and Your people have found grace in Your sight? Is it not in that You go with us? So we shall be separated, I and Your people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.

¹ My son, if you will receive my words and hide my commandments with you, ² so that you attend to wisdom, you shall extend your heart to understanding; ³ yea, if you cry after knowledge and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures, ⁵ then you shall understand the fear of Jehovah and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For Jehovah gives wisdom; out of His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

¹⁰ The heart knows its own bitterness, and a stranger does not share in its joy.

¹⁴ The beginning of strife is like letting out water; therefore leave off fighting, before it breaks out.

³ It is an honor for a man to cease from strife, but every fool exposes himself.

¹⁹ A gossip is a revealer of secrets; so do not mix with him who flatters with his lips.

²¹ My son, fear Jehovah and the king; and do not fellowship with those who are given to change;

¹⁷ He who passes by enraging himself over strife not his own is like one who takes a dog by the ears,

⁸ Yea, in the way of Your judgments, O Jehovah, we awaited You; for Your name and for Your memory is the desire of our soul. ⁹ With my soul I desired You in the night; yea, with my spirit within me I will seek You early; for when Your judgments are in the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.

¹⁷ I did not sit in the circle of mockers, nor rejoice; I sat alone because of Your hand; for You have filled me with indignation.

³ to speak to the priests who belong to the house of Jehovah of Hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, consecrating myself, as I have done these many years?

¹¹ He answered and said to them, Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of Heaven, but it is not given to them.

⁴⁴ Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which when a man has found it, he hides it, and for the joy of it goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.

³⁵ And rising up quite early in the night, He went out and went away into a deserted place, and He was praying there.

¹¹ And He said to them, To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God. But to those outside, all these things are given in parables

¹ Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, a called apostle, separated to the gospel of God

¹⁷ Therefore come out from among them and be separated, says the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing. And I will receive you

¹⁵ See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, ¹⁶ redeeming the time, because the days are evil. ¹⁷ Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

¹⁹ These are those setting themselves apart, animal-like ones, not having the Spirit.

¹⁵ And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor has said, and the man whose eyes are open has said; ¹⁶ he has said, he who heard the words of God and knew the knowledge of the Most High, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down but having his eyes open;

¹ Blessed is the man who has not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, and has not stood in the way of sinners, and has not sat in the seat of the scornful. ² But his delight is only in the Law of Jehovah; and in His Law he meditates day and night.

⁷ The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

²² How long will you love simplicity, simple ones? And will scorners delight in their scorning? And will fools hate knowledge?

²³ A wise man conceals knowledge, but the heart of fools cries out foolishness.

¹⁶ Every wise one deals with knowledge, but a fool lays open his folly.

¹⁶ Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, since he has no heart for it?

³ Yes also, in the way a fool walks, his heart fails; and he says to all that he is a fool.

³⁴ And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, they begged that He would depart out of their borders.

¹ But concerning the sacrifices to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.

¹² Even so you, since you are zealots of spiritual things, seek to build up the church, in order that you may abound

¹⁵ Some indeed even preach Christ because of envy and strife, and some also of good will.

¹⁵ who have forsaken the right way and have gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness, ¹⁶ but had reproof of his lawbreaking, a dumb ass speaking in a man's voice, held back the madness of the prophet. ¹⁷ These are wells without water, clouds driven with a tempest, for whom the blackness of darkness is reserved forever. ¹⁸ For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they lure through the lusts of the flesh, by unbridled lust, the ones who were escaping from those who live in error; ¹⁹ promising them liberty, they themselves are the slaves of corruption. For by whom anyone has been overcome, even to this one he has been enslaved.

³⁰ And Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, You son of a perverse, rebellious woman, do I not know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own confusion, and to the shame of your mother's nakedness?

⁴ Oh our God, hear, for we are despised. And turn their curse upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity.

⁹ For the zeal of Your house has eaten Me up; and the reproaches of those who reproached You have fallen on Me.

²⁰ Reproach has broken my heart, and I am full of heaviness; and I looked for some to mourn with me, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.

³ Have mercy on us, O Jehovah, have mercy on us; for we are exceedingly filled with scorn. ⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the contempt of those who are at ease, with the scorn of the proud.

² Pride comes, then shame comes; but with the lowly is wisdom.

¹⁰ Cast out the scorner, and fighting shall go out; yes, quarrels and shame shall cease.

¹⁶ When the wicked are multiplied, sin increases; but the righteous shall see their fall.

³⁹ And those who passed by blasphemed Him, shaking their heads, ⁴⁰ and saying, You destroying the temple and building it in three days, save yourself. If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross. ⁴¹ And in the same way also the chief priests mocked, with the scribes and elders, saying, ⁴² He saved others, but he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. ⁴³ He trusted in God, let Him deliver Him now, if He will have Him. (For He said, I am the Son of God.) ⁴⁴ And also the thieves who were crucified with Him reviled Him, saying the same.

⁴ In these things they are surprised, that you are not running with them into the same excess of riot, blaspheming.

¹⁴ If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of God and of glory rests on you. Truly according to them, He is blasphemed, but according to you He is glorified.

² I will open my mouth in a parable; I will speak dark sayings of old,

¹¹ The mouth of a righteous one is a well of life; but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

¹⁴ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

²² Understanding is a fountain of life to him who has it, but the instruction of fools is folly.

⁵ Wisdom in the heart of man is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.

³⁴ Offspring of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

¹⁴ but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

³⁸ He who believes on Me, as the Scripture has said, "Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." ³⁹ (But He spoke this about the Spirit, which they who believed on Him should receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.)

¹⁶ Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

⁶ Let your speech be always with grace, having been seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

¹⁵ You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment. You shall not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty; but you shall judge your neighbor in righteousness.

¹⁶ And I commanded your judges at that time saying, Hear the causes between your brothers, and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the stranger with him. ¹⁷ You shall not respect persons in judgment. You shall hear the small as well as the great. You shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God's. And the cause that is too hard for you, bring to me, and I will hear it.

¹⁹ You shall not pervert judgment; you shall not respect persons, nor take a gift. For a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.

⁹ And she wrote in the letter, saying, Proclaim a fast and set Naboth on high among the people. ¹⁰ And set two men, sons of Belial, before him to bear witness against him, saying, You blasphemed God and the king. And carry him out and stone him so that he may die. ¹¹ And the men of his city, the elders and the nobles who lived in his city did as Jezebel had sent to them, as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast and set Naboth on high among the people. ¹³ And there came in two men, sons of Belial, and sat before him. And the men of Belial witnessed against him, against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth blasphemed God and the king. And they carried him out of the city and stoned him with stones so that he died. ¹⁴ And they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned and is dead.

⁷ Would you speak unrighteously for God, and talk deceitfully for Him? ⁸ Will you lift up His person, or contend for God?

¹⁹ How much less to Him who does not lift up the face of rulers, nor regard the rich before the poor? For all of them are the work of His hands.

² How long will you judge unjustly and lift up the faces of the wicked? Selah.

¹⁵ He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, even both of them are hateful to Jehovah.

²³ These also are for the wise: To have respect of persons in judgment is not good.

²¹ To have respect of persons is not good; yea, for a piece of bread a man will transgress.

²³ who justify the wicked for a bribe, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

¹⁴ And justice is driven back, and justice stands afar off; for truth has fallen in the street, and right cannot enter.

³ Both hands are on evil, to do it well. The ruler asks for a bribe, and the judge also; and the great man speaks the evil desire of his soul. So they weave it together.

¹⁶ And they sent their disciples out to Him along with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that you are true, and that you teach the way of God in truth. Nor do you care for anyone, for you do not regard the person of men.

¹⁶ A fool's vexation is known in a day, but the astute one covers shame.

¹⁰ Only by pride comes argument, but with those who take advice is wisdom.

³ In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride, but the lips of the wise shall keep them.

¹⁶ A wise one fears and departs from evil, but the fool rages and is sure.

²⁷ An ungodly man plots evil, and his lips are like a burning fire. ²⁸ A perverse man causes fighting, and a whisperer separates chief friends.

¹⁹ A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment; for if you deliver him yet you must do it again.

²⁹ Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.

²⁴ Make no friendship with an angry man; and you shall not go up with a man of fury, ²⁵ lest you learn his ways and get a snare to your soul.

²⁴ It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop than with a quarreling woman and to share a house.

³ A stone is heavy, and sand is heavy; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both.

⁹ If a wise man contends with a foolish man, whether he rages or laughs, there is no rest.

³⁵ And it happened when he saw her, he tore his clothes and said, Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low, and you are one of those who trouble me. For I have opened my mouth to Jehovah, and I cannot go back.

²⁴ And the men of Israel were distressed on that day. For Saul had commanded the people, saying, Cursed is the man that eats food until evening, so that I may be avenged on my enemies. So none of the people tasted any food. ²⁵ And all the men of the land came into a forest, and there was honey on the ground. ²⁶ And when the people had come into the woods, behold, a flow of honey! But no one put his hand to his mouth, for the people feared the oath. ²⁷ But Jonathan did not hear when his father made the people swear. And he put forth the end of the rod in his hand and dipped it in a honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth. And his eyes were lightened. ²⁸ And one from the people answered and said, Your father strictly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed is the man who eats food this day. And the people were weary. ²⁹ Then Jonathan said, My father has troubled the land. Please see how my eyes have been lightened because I tasted a little of this honey. ³⁰ How much more if the people had happened to eat freely today of the spoil of their enemies which they found? For would not there have been a much greater slaughter among the Philistines? ³¹ And they struck the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon, and the people were very faint. ³² And the people flew on the spoil, and took sheep and oxen and calves, and killed them on the ground. And the people ate with the blood. ³³ And they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sin against Jehovah in that they eat with the blood. And he said, You have transgressed. Roll a great stone to me today. ³⁴ And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people and say to them, Let each one bring his ox here, and each man his sheep, and kill them here, and eat. And do not sin against Jehovah in eating with the blood. And each man of all the people brought his ox in his hand that night, and killed them there. ³⁵ And Saul built an altar to Jehovah. The same was the first altar that he built to Jehovah. ³⁶ And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do all that seems good to you. Then the priest said, Let us draw near here to God. ³⁷ And Saul asked counsel of God: Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will You deliver them into the hand of Israel? But He answered him not that day. ³⁸ And Saul said, Draw near here, all the chief of the people, and know and see what this sin has been today. ³⁹ For, as Jehovah lives, He who saves Israel, though it is in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people who answered. ⁴⁰ Then he said to all Israel, You be on one side, and Jonathan my son and I will be on the other side. And the people said to Saul, Do what seems good to you. ⁴¹ And Saul said to Jehovah, the God of Israel, Give a perfect lot. And Saul and Jonathan were taken, but the people escaped. ⁴² And Saul said, Cast lots between me and my son Jonathan. And Jonathan was taken. ⁴³ Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what you have done. And Jonathan told him and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod in my hand. Behold me, I must die. ⁴⁴ And Saul answered, God do so and more also, for you shall surely die, Jonathan. ⁴⁵ And the people said to Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who has worked out this great salvation in Israel? Far be it! As Jehovah lives, not one hair of his head shall fall to the ground, for he has worked with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, so that he did not die. ⁴⁶ Then Saul went up from following the Philistines. And the Philistines went to their own place.

⁸ So they shall be confounded; their tongue falls on themselves; everyone seeing them shall flee.

⁹ As for the head of those around me, let the evil of their own lips cover them.

² you are snared with the words of your mouth, you are taken with the words of your mouth.

⁸ The wise in heart will receive commandments; but a babbling fool shall fall.

¹⁴ Wise ones store up knowledge; but the mouth of the foolish is near ruin.

¹³ The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips, but the just shall come out of trouble.

³ He who keeps his mouth keeps his life; he who opens his lips wide, it is ruin to him.

¹¹ Surely the snake will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better. ¹² The words of a wise mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow him. ¹³ The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness; and the end of his talk is wicked madness. ¹⁴ A fool also makes many words; a man knows not what they shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?

²³ And he swore to her, Whatever you shall ask from me, I will give it to you, to the half of my kingdom. ²⁴ And she went out and said to her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist. ²⁵ And immediately going in with haste to the king, she asked, saying, I desire that you give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter. ²⁶ And becoming deeply grieved, the king, because of his oath, and those reclining together, he did not wish to reject her. ²⁷ And immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him in the prison, ²⁸ and brought his head in a platter and gave it to the girl. And the girl gave it to her mother.

¹⁴ And they came to the chief priests and elders and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse that we will eat nothing until we have killed Paul. ¹⁵ Now therefore you, with the sanhedrin, inform the chiliarch that he bring him down to you tomorrow, as though you would inquire something more perfectly regarding him. And we are ready to put him to death before he comes near. ¹⁶ And hearing of the ambush, Paul's sister's son, having come near, and entering into the fortress, he reported to Paul. ¹⁷ And calling one of the centurions, Paul said, Bring this young man to the chiliarch, for he has a certain thing to tell him. ¹⁸ So he took him and brought him to the chiliarch and said, Paul the prisoner called me and asked me to bring this young man to you, who has something to say to you. ¹⁹ And laying hold of his hand, and drawing aside privately, the chiliarch asked him, What is it that you have to tell me? ²⁰ And he said, The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the sanhedrin tomorrow, as though they would inquire something more exactly about him. ²¹ But do not yield to them, for there are more than forty men of them lying in wait for him, who have bound themselves with an oath that they will neither eat nor drink until they have killed him. And now they are ready, looking for a promise from you. ²² So the chiliarch sent away the young man commanding, Tell no one that you have shown these things to me.

¹⁶ You shall not go as a slanderer among your people; you shall not stand against the blood of your neighbor. I am Jehovah.

² Your tongue devises evil, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

³ who sharpen their tongue like a sword, they tread their arrows, even a bitter word, ⁴ so that they may shoot at the blameless one from a lurking place; suddenly they shoot at him, and fear not.

¹⁸ There are those who speak like the thrusts of a sword, but the tongue of the wise heals.

²⁸ A perverse man causes fighting, and a whisperer separates chief friends.

²⁰ Where there is no wood, the fire goes out; and where there is no talebearer, the fighting ceases. ²¹ As coals to burning coals, and wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome man to kindle fighting. ²² The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

²⁹ I am a brother to jackals, and a companion to daughters of the ostrich.

⁴ He who deals with a lazy hand becomes poor; but the hand of the hard worker makes rich.

²⁰ Do not be among those who drink much wine, among gluttons for flesh for themselves, ²¹ for the drunkard and the glutton lose all, and sleepiness shall clothe a man with rags.

³⁰ I went by the field of the lazy man, and by the vineyard of the man without understanding; ³¹ and, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face of it, and its stone wall was broken down. ³² Then I saw; I set my heart on it; I looked and I received instruction. ³³ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to lie down; ³⁴ then your poverty comes stalking, and your want like a man armed with a shield.

²⁴ Whoever robs his father or his mother and says, It is no sin; he shall be a companion to a destroyer.

²⁶ His lord answered and said to him, Evil and slothful servant! You knew that I reaped where I did not sow, and gathered where I did not scatter,

¹³ And not many days afterward, the younger son gathered all together and went away into a far country. And there he wasted his property, living dissolutely. ¹⁴ And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land. And he began to be in want.

¹ And He also said to His disciples, There was a certain rich man who had a steward. And he was accused to him, that he had wasted his goods. ² And he called him and said to him, What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship, for you may no longer be steward.

¹¹ As to diligence, not slothful, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord;

¹² that you be not slothful, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

¹ And when Abram was ninety-nine years old, Jehovah appeared to Abram and said to him, I am the Almighty God! Walk before Me and be perfect.

¹¹ Deliver me, I pray You, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau. For I fear him, lest he come and strike me, from mother to sons.

²⁸ And He said, Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for like a prince you have power with God and with men, and have prevailed. ²⁹ And Jacob asked and said, I pray You, reveal Your name. And He said, Why do you ask after My name? And He blessed him there.

¹³ And Moses said to God, Behold, when I come to the sons of Israel, and shall say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they shall say to me, What is His name? What shall I say to them? ¹⁴ And God said to Moses, I AM THAT I AM. And He said, So you shall say to the sons of Israel, I AM has sent me to you. ¹⁵ And God said to Moses again, You shall say this to the sons of Israel, Jehovah the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My title from generation to generation.

³ And I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty. But I was not known to them by the name JEHOVAH.

⁵ And Jehovah came down in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of Jehovah. ⁶ And Jehovah passed by before him and proclaimed, Jehovah! Jehovah God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, ⁷ keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the sons, and on the sons of sons, to the third and to the fourth generation.

⁶ And it greatly distressed David, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, each one for his sons and for his daughters. But David encouraged himself in Jehovah his God.

³ The God who is my Rock, in Him will I trust. He is my Shield, and the Horn of my salvation, my High Tower, and my Refuge, my Savior. You save me from violence.

⁴⁵ Strangers shall submit themselves to me. As soon as they hear, they shall obey me. ⁴⁶ Strangers shall fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their strongholds. ⁴⁷ Jehovah lives! And blessed be my Rock, and exalted be the God, the Rock of my salvation.

⁵¹ He is the Tower of salvation for His king, and He shows mercy to His anointed, to David and to his seed, forevermore.

² Jehovah is my strength, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock; I will trust in Him; He is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.

¹ A Psalm of David. Jehovah is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? Jehovah is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

³ When I am afraid I will trust in You. ⁴ In God I will praise His Word; in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do to me.

³ For You have been a shelter for me, a strong tower before the enemy. ⁴ I will dwell in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the hiding place of Your wings. Selah.

² I will say of Jehovah, my refuge and my fortress; my God; in Him I will trust.

¹⁴ Because He has set His love on Me, therefore I will deliver Him; I will set Him on high, because He has known My name.

² He is my goodness and my fortress; my high tower and my deliverer; my shield and He in whom I trust; who humbles my people under me.

⁶ For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be on His shoulder; and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

⁴ Trust in Jehovah forever; for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.

¹⁵ For so says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity; whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, even with the contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

⁶ In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely. And this is His name by which He shall be called, JEHOVAH, OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

¹⁹ Jehovah the Lord is my strength, and He will make my feet like hinds' feet, and He will make me to walk on my high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

²³ "Behold, the virgin shall conceive in her womb, and will bear a son. And they will call His name Emmanuel," which being interpreted is, God with us.

⁸ I am the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, says the Lord, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

³¹ For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.

²⁴ If I have made gold my hope, or have called fine gold my trust; ²⁵ if I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

⁶ Those who trust in their wealth, and their many riches, boast themselves. ⁷ A man cannot at all redeem a brother, nor give to God a ransom for him, ⁸ for the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceases forever, ⁹ yea, he shall yet live forever; he shall never see corruption.

⁵ God will likewise destroy you forever; He shall take you away, and pluck you out of your tent, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah. ⁶ And the righteous shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying, ⁷ Behold, the man who did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, he was strong in his wickedness.

¹⁰ Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery; if riches increase, do not set your heart on them. ¹¹ God has spoken once; twice I have heard this, that power belongs to God.

¹⁵ The rich man's wealth is his strong city; the ruin of the poor is their poverty.

⁴ Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.

¹² For wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense; but the excellency of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat drink and be merry. ²⁰ But God said to him, Fool! This night your soul shall be required of you, then whose shall be those things which you have prepared? ²¹ So is he who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.

⁶ Therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes. ⁷ And it happened after Jehovah had spoken these words to Job, Jehovah said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you and your two friends. For you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has. ⁸ And now take to yourselves seven young bulls and seven rams, and go to My servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering. And My servant Job will pray for you. Surely I will lift up his face so as not to do with you according to your foolishness, in that you have not spoken of Me what is right, like My servant Job. ⁹ And Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite, went and did as Jehovah commanded them. Jehovah also accepted the face of Job. ¹⁰ And Jehovah turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends. Also Jehovah added to Job all that had been his, to double. ¹¹ And came to him all his brothers, and all his sisters, and all those who had known him before. And they ate bread with him in his house, and consoled him and comforted him over all the evil that Jehovah had brought on him. Each one also gave him a piece of money, and each one a ring of gold. ¹² And Jehovah blessed the latter days of Job more than the beginning. For he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. ¹³ He also had seven sons and three daughters. ¹⁴ And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Keziah; and the name of the third, Keren-happuch. ¹⁵ And in all the land there were not found women as beautiful as the daughters of Job. And their father gave them inheritance among their brothers. ¹⁶ After this Job lived a hundred and forty years, and he saw his sons, and his sons' sons, four generations. ¹⁷ And Job died, being old and full of days.

³³ The fear of Jehovah is the instruction of wisdom, and before honor is humility.

¹⁸ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

²³ A man's pride shall bring him low; but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.

⁵ Then I said, Woe is me! For I am undone; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of Hosts. ⁶ Then one of the seraphs flew to me, having a live coal in his hand, snatched with tongs from the altar. ⁷ And he laid it on my mouth and said, Lo, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin purged. ⁸ And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here am I; send me! ⁹ And He said, Go, and tell this people, You hear indeed, but do not understand; and seeing you see, but do not know. ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn back, and be healed. ¹¹ Then I said, Lord, how long? And He answered, Until the cities are wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land laid waste, a desolation, ¹² and until Jehovah has moved men far away, and the desolation in the midst of the land is great. ¹³ But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return and be consumed like the terebinth and like the oak being felled, yet has its stump; the holy seed is its stump.

⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom; pride. Fullness of bread and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters. Nor did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ And they were haughty and did abominable things before Me, so I turned away as I saw fit.

² Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre. So says the Lord Jehovah: Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, I am a god, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet you are a man and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of gods;

⁹ Will you yet say before him who kills you, I am of the gods? But you are a man, and not God, in the hand of him who kills you.

²³ But you have lifted up yourself against the Lord of Heaven. And they have brought the vessels of His house before you; and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver, and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know. And you have not glorified the God in whose hand is your breath and all your ways. ²⁴ Then the part of the hand was sent from Him. And this writing was written.

²⁰ And while I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin, and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my cry before Jehovah my God for the holy mountain of my God;

²³ At the beginning of your prayers the commandment came out, and I have come to explain. For you are greatly beloved; therefore understand the matter, and attend to the vision:

¹¹ For whoever exalts himself shall be abased, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.

²¹ And on a certain day, Herod sat on his throne, dressed in royal clothing, and made a speech to them. ²² And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god and not of a man! ²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give God the glory. And he was eaten by worms and gave up the spirit.

⁵ Likewise, younger ones, be subject to older ones, and all being subject to one another. Put on humility. For God resists proud ones, but He gives grace to the humble.

¹⁴ then you shall inquire and make search, and ask carefully. And behold, if it is true, and the thing is certain, that such an abomination is done among you,

⁴ And the king said to Ziba, Behold, All that belonged to Mephibosheth is yours. And Ziba said, I humbly beg you that I may find grace in your sight, my lord, O king.

²⁴ And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king. And he had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his moustache, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until he came in peace. ²⁵ And it happened when he had come to Jerusalem to meet the king, the king said to him, Why did you not go with me, Mephibosheth? ²⁶ And he answered, My lord, O, king, my servant deceived me. For your servant said, I will saddle me an ass so that I may ride on it and go to the king, because your servant is lame. ²⁷ And he spoke slander against your servant to my lord the king. But my lord the king is as an angel of God. And do what is good in your eyes. ²⁸ For all my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king. And you set your servant among those eating at your own table. What right then have I to cry to the king any more? ²⁹ And the king said to him, Why do you speak any more of your matters? I have said, You and Ziba divide the land. ³⁰ And Mephibosheth said to the king, Yes, let him take all, because my lord the king has come in peace to his own house.

¹⁰ And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it to Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews' enemy. ¹¹ And the king said to Haman, The silver is given to you, the people also, to do with them as seems good to you. ¹² Then the king's scribes were called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded to the king's lieutenants, and to the governors who were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province, according to the writing of it, and to every people according to their language. It was written in the name of King Ahasuerus and sealed with the king's ring. ¹³ And the letters were sent by postal riders into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, on the thirteenth of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take what they owned for a prize. ¹⁴ The copy of the writing, for a command to be given in every province, was published to all people, to be ready for that day. ¹⁵ The posts went out, being hurried by the king's command, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink, but the city Shushan was perplexed.

⁵ and said, If it please the king, and if I have found favor in his sight, and if the thing is right before the king, and if I am pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to bring back the documents (a sly plan by Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite) which he wrote to destroy the Jews in all the king's provinces. ⁶ For how can I bear to see the evil that shall come on my people? Or how can I endure to see the slaughter of my kindred? ⁷ And King Ahasuerus said to Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and have hanged him on the wooden gallows, because he laid his hand on the Jews. ⁸ And you write for the Jews as it pleases you, in the king's name, and seal it with the king's ring. For the writing which is written in the king's name and sealed with the king's ring, no man may turn back. ⁹ Then the king's scribes were called at that time in the third month, the month Sivan, on the twenty-third of it. And it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded to the Jews, and to the lieutenants and the governors and rulers of the provinces from India to Ethiopia, a hundred and twenty-seven provinces, to every province according to the writing of it, and to every people in their writing, and to the Jews according to their writing and according to their language. ¹⁰ And he wrote in the name of King Ahasuerus and sealed it with the king's ring. And he sent letters by riders on horseback, riders on royal steeds, stallions, even sons of mares. ¹¹ In them the king granted the Jews in every city to gather themselves, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to kill and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province who desired to attack them, little ones and women, and to take what they owned for a prize, ¹² on one day in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, on the thirteenth of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar. ¹³ The copy of the writing for a command to be given in every province was announced to all people, even that the Jews should be ready against that day to avenge themselves on their enemies. ¹⁴ The runners, riders on stallions, royal steeds, went out, being hurried and pressed on by the king's command. And the order was given at Shushan the palace. ¹⁵ And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal clothing of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen and purple. And the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad. ¹⁶ The Jews had light and gladness and joy and honor. ¹⁷ And in every province, and in every city where the king's command and his order came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Jews, for the fear of the Jews fell on them.

¹⁶ I was a father to the poor; and the cause which I did not know, I searched out.

²⁵ It is a snare to a man to say rashly, A holy thing, and afterward vows to ask about it.

⁹ Therefore King Darius signed the writing and the ban.

¹⁴ Then the king, when he heard the word, was very much displeased with himself. And he set his heart on Daniel to deliver him. And he labored until sundown to deliver him.

⁵¹ Does our law judge the Man before it hears Him and knows what He does?

²⁰ And Job arose, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground and worshiped. ²¹ And he said, I came naked out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return there. Jehovah gave, and Jehovah has taken away. Blessed be the name of Jehovah.

⁷ And Satan went forth from the presence of Jehovah and struck Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to the top of his head. ⁸ And he took a broken piece of pottery to scrape himself with. And he sat down among the ashes. ⁹ And his wife said to him, Do you still hold to your integrity? Curse God and die! ¹⁰ But he said to her, You speak as one of the foolish ones speak. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, their fury is drinking my spirit; the terrors of God are set against me.

¹⁴ then You scare me with dreams, and terrify me with visions; ¹⁵ so that my soul chooses strangling, death rather than my life.

¹⁵ If I am wicked, woe to me; and if I am righteous, I will not lift up my head, being filled with shame, and looking on my affliction. ¹⁶ For it increases! You hunt me as a fierce lion; and again You show Yourself marvelous on me. ¹⁷ You renew Your witnesses against me, and increase Your anger on me; changes and warfare are against me.

⁹ What profit is in my blood, in going down to the pit? Shall the dust praise You? Shall it tell of Your truth? ¹⁰ Hear, O Jehovah, and have mercy on me; Jehovah, be my helper.

³ When I kept silence, my bones became old through my roaring all the day long. ⁴ For by day and by night Your hand was heavy on me; my sap is turned into the droughts of summer. Selah.

² For Your arrows stick fast in me, and Your hand presses heavily on me. ³ There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your anger; nor rest in my bones because of my sin. ⁴ For my iniquities have gone over my head; like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

¹⁰ As with a sword in my bones, my enemies shame me; while they say daily to me, Where is your God? ¹¹ Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why do you moan within me? Hope in God; for I still praise Him, the salvation of my face, and my God.

³ from the voice of the enemy, from the oppression of the wicked, for they shake trouble over me, and in wrath they hate me.

⁵ Fear and trembling have come on me, and horror has covered me.

² In the day of my trouble I sought Jehovah; my hand was poured in the night, and ceased not; my soul refused to be comforted. ³ I remembered God, and was troubled; I complained, and my spirit fainted. Selah.

¹⁴ O Jehovah, why do You cast off my soul? Why do You hide Your face from me? ¹⁵ I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up; while I suffer Your terrors, I pine away. ¹⁶ Your fierce wrath goes over me; Your terrors have cut me off.

²² For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

³ He heals the broken-hearted, and binds up their wounds.

¹³ A merry heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.

²² A merry heart does good like a medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.

³³ And He took with Him Peter and James and John. And He began to be greatly amazed, and to be very heavy. ³⁴ And He said to them, My soul is exceedingly sorrowful to death. Stay here and watch.

³ And not only this, but we glory in afflictions also, knowing that afflictions work out patience, ⁴ and patience works out experience, and experience works out hope. ⁵ And hope does not make us ashamed, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit given to us.

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ³⁶ As it is written, "For Your sake we are killed all the day long. We are counted as sheep of slaughter." ³⁷ But in all these things we more than conquer through Him who loved us.

¹² For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity; not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God; we have had our conduct in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

⁷ so that, on the contrary, you should rather forgive and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overwhelming sorrow.

⁹ And He said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may overshadow me. ¹⁰ Therefore I am pleased in weaknesses, in insults, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am powerful.

² My brothers, count it all joy when you fall into different kinds of temptations,

⁶ in which you greatly rejoice, yet a little while, if need be, grieving in manifold temptations;

⁹ And give to Your servant an understanding heart, to judge Your people, to discern between good and bad. For who is able to judge this, Your great people?

⁹⁷ MEM: Oh how I love Your Law! It is my meditation all the day. ⁹⁸ Through Your Commandments You make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me. ⁹⁹ I have more understanding than all my teachers; for Your testimonies are my prayer. ¹⁰⁰ I understand more than the old men, because I keep Your Commandments. ¹⁰¹ I have kept my feet from every evil way, so that I might keep Your Word. ¹⁰² I have not departed from Your judgments; for You have taught me. ¹⁰³ How sweet are Your Words to my taste! More than honey to my mouth! ¹⁰⁴ Through Your Commandments I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.

⁵ the wise hears and increases learning; and understanding ones get wisdom;

⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding; forget not; nor turn away from the words of my mouth.

⁷ Wisdom is the main thing; get wisdom; and with all your getting get understanding.

⁹ Give to a wise one, and he will be still wiser; teach a just one, and he will increase in learning.

¹⁴ The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.

²³ Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

⁸ And other fell on good ground and sprang up, and bore fruit a hundredfold. And when He had said these things, He cried, He who has ears to hear, let him hear. ⁹ And His disciples asked Him, saying, What might this parable be? ¹⁰ And He said, To you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God. But to others I speak in parables, so that seeing they might not see and hearing they might not understand.

³⁹ And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word.

¹⁵ and that from a babe you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, ¹⁷ that the man of God may be perfected, thoroughly furnished to every good work.

⁵ But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and with no reproach, and it shall be given to him.

²⁰ And also you shall say, Behold, your servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face. Perhaps he will accept me.

¹⁰ And Jacob said, No, please, if now I have found grace in your sight, then receive my present at my hand. For therefore have I seen your face, as though I had seen the face of God, and you were pleased with me.

¹¹ And their father Israel said to them, If it be so now, do this. Take of the best fruits of the land in your vessels, and bring a present down to the man, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds.

²⁷ And now this blessing which your handmaid has brought to my lord, let it even be given to the young men who follow my lord.

⁸ A bribe is like a precious stone in the eyes of him who has it; wherever he turns, he is prudent.

⁶ Many will beg the favor of a ruler, and all are friends to a man who gives gifts.

¹⁴ A gift in secret quiets anger; and a bribe in the bosom quiets strong wrath.

¹ And David had passed on a little from the top. And, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves of bread, and a hundred bunches of raisins, and a hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine. ² And the king said to Ziba, What are these to you? And Ziba said, The asses are for the king's household to ride upon. And the bread and summer fruit are for the young men to eat. And the wine is so that the ones who are faint in the wilderness may drink. ³ And the king said, And where is your master's son? And Ziba said to the king, Behold, he remains at Jerusalem. For he said, Today the house of Israel shall restore to me the kingdom of my father.

²⁴ And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king. ¹³ If one answers a matter before he hears, it is folly and shame to him.

⁵ For we have found this man pestilent, and moving rebellion among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes, ⁶ who also attempted to profane the temple, whom we took and would have judged according to our Law.

¹² And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, nor making a gathering of a crowd; not even in the synagogues, nor throughout the city. ¹³ Nor can they prove the things of which they now accuse me.

² Their inheritance was by lot, as Jehovah commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe.

²¹ When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken. And they looked for him, but he could not be found. ²² And they inquired of Jehovah further, Has the man yet come here? And Jehovah answered, Behold, he is hiding himself among the baggage. ²³ And they ran and brought him from there. And when he stood among the people, he was taller than all of the people from the shoulders and upward. ²⁴ And Samuel said to all the people, Do you see him whom Jehovah has chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, Let the king live! ²⁵ Then Samuel told the people the duties of the kingdom, and wrote in a book and laid it up before Jehovah. And Samuel sent all the people away, each to his house. ²⁶ And Saul also went home to Gibeah. And a band of men went with him, whose hearts God had touched. ²⁷ But the sons of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him and brought him no present. But he was silent.

⁴² And Saul said, Cast lots between me and my son Jonathan. And Jonathan was taken.

⁶³ And to the sons of Merari were given by lot, throughout their families, out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.

³¹ And they also cast lots along with their brothers, the sons of Aaron, before David the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites, the head of the fathers, as well as his younger brother.

¹ And the rulers of the people lived at Jerusalem. And the rest of the people cast lots, to bring one of every ten to live in Jerusalem, the holy city, and nine parts in other cities.

³³ The lot is cast into the lap, but the whole disposing of it is from Jehovah.

⁵ but He did not have respect to Cain and to his offering. And Cain glowed with anger, and his face fell. ⁶ And Jehovah said to Cain, Why have you angrily glowed? And why did your face fall? ⁷ If you do well, shall you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin crouches at the door; and its desire is for you, and you shall rule over it. ⁸ And Cain talked with his brother Abel. And it happened when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him.

⁴¹ And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him. And Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then I will kill my brother Jacob. ⁴² And these words of her older son Esau were told to Rebekah. And she sent and called her younger son Jacob, and said to him, Behold, your brother Esau is going to ease himself on you, to kill you. ⁴³ And now, my son, obey my voice and arise. Flee for yourself to my brother Laban, to Haran, ⁴⁴ and stay with him a few days until your brother's fury turns away, ⁴⁵ until your brother's anger turns away from you and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send and bring you from there. Why should I also be bereaved of both of you in one day?

⁶ And the messengers returned to Jacob saying, We came to your brother Esau, and also he comes to meet you, and four hundred men with him. ⁷ Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed, and he divided the people with him, and the flocks and herds, and the camels, into two bands. ⁸ And he said, If Esau comes to the one company and strikes it, then the other company which is left shall escape. ⁹ And Jacob said, Oh God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, Jehovah, who said to me, Return to your country and to your kindred, and I will deal well with you: ¹⁰ I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies and of all the truth which You have done to Your servant. For with my staff I passed over this Jordan, and now I have become two bands. ¹¹ Deliver me, I pray You, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau. For I fear him, lest he come and strike me, from mother to sons.

³ And Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons, because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a tunic reaching to the soles of his feet. ⁴ And when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him. ⁵ And Joseph dreamed a dream and told it to his brothers. And they hated him still more.

¹¹ And his brothers were jealous of him. But his father observed the saying.

¹⁸ And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near them, they conspired against him to kill him. ¹⁹ And they said to one another, Behold, this dreamer comes. ²⁰ Therefore come now, and let us kill him, and throw him into some pit, and we will say some evil beast has devoured him. And we shall see what will become of his dreams. ²¹ And Reuben heard, and he delivered him out of their hands and said, Let us not kill him. ²² And Reuben said to them, Shed no blood. Throw him into this pit in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him (in order to rescue him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again). ²³ And it happened when Joseph had come to his brothers, they stripped Joseph out of his tunic, the tunic reaching to the soles of his feet that was on him. ²⁴ And they took him and threw him into a pit. And the pit was empty, with no water in it. ²⁵ And they sat down to eat bread. And they lifted up their eyes, and looked. And behold, a company of Ishmaelites came from Gilead, with their camels bearing spices and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt. ²⁶ And Judah said to his brothers, What profit is it if we should kill our brother and hide his blood? ²⁷ Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him. For he is our brother, and our flesh. And his brothers listened.

²² And Absalom did not speak to his brother Amnon, neither good nor bad, for Absalom hated Amnon because he had forced his sister Tamar.

²⁸ And Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, And watch when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Strike Amnon, you shall kill him. Do not fear. Have I not commanded you? Be courageous, and be brave.

²³ And King Solomon swore by Jehovah, saying, May God do so to me, and more He shall do, if Adonijah has not spoken this word against his life. ²⁴ And now, as Jehovah lives, who has established me and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house, as He spoke, Adonijah shall be put to death today. ²⁵ And King Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And he fell on him so that he died.

¹⁶ And all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, and the people answered the king, saying, What part do we have in David? Yea, there is no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Now see to your house, O David! And Israel went to its tents.

¹⁷ And Abijah and his people killed them with a great slaughter. And there fell down dead five hundred thousand chosen men of Israel.

¹⁹ a false witness who speaks lies, and he who causes fighting among brothers.

³² He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit is better than he who takes a city.

³⁹ Then there was sharp feeling, so as to separate them from each other. And taking Mark, Barnabas sailed to Cyprus.

¹³ The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips, but the just shall come out of trouble. ¹⁴ A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the reward of a man's hands shall be given to him.

² From the fruit of his mouth a man shall eat good, but the soul of the treacherous eats violence.

¹⁸ For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; they shall all be fitted in your lips,

²¹ that I might make you know the sureness of the words of truth; to return the words of truth to those who send to you?

¹¹ A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. ¹² As a ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon a hearing ear.

¹⁹ In the multitude of words, sin is not lacking; but he who holds back his lips is wise. ²⁰ The tongue of the just is as choice silver; the heart of the wicked is worth little. ²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many; but fools die for lack of wisdom.

³¹ The mouth of the just brings forth wisdom; but the perverse tongue shall be cut out.

³⁰ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he who takes souls is wise.

² From the fruit of his mouth a man shall eat good, but the soul of the treacherous eats violence. ³ He who keeps his mouth keeps his life; he who opens his lips wide, it is ruin to him.

⁴ The words of a man's mouth are like deep waters; the fountain of wisdom is like a flowing stream. ⁵ It is not good to favor the person of the wicked, nor to overthrow the righteous in judgment. ⁶ A fool's lips enter into argument, and his mouth calls for strokes. ⁷ A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

¹⁹ I create the fruit of the lips; peace, peace, to him far off, and to him near, says Jehovah; and I will heal him.

³⁵ A good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings out good things; and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings out evil things. ³⁶ But I say to you that every idle word, whatever men may speak, they shall give account of it in the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.

¹⁴ How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without preaching? ¹⁵ And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things!"

¹⁶ to the one we are the savor of death to death, and to the other we are the savor of life to life. And who is sufficient for these things?

¹⁵ Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves as ministers of righteousness, whose end shall be according to their works.

²⁹ Let not any filthy word go out of your mouth, but if any is good to building up in respect of need, that it may give grace to the ones hearing.

¹⁰ For there are indeed many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, ¹¹ whose mouth you must stop, who subvert whole houses, teaching things not right for the sake of ill gain.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. So the tongue is set among our members, spotting all the body and inflaming the course of nature, and being inflamed by hell. ⁷ For every kind of animals, and of birds, and of reptiles, and of sea-animals, is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind. ⁸ But no one can tame the tongue, it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. ⁹ By this we bless God, even the Father. And by this we curse men, who have come into being according to the image of God.

¹⁸ For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they lure through the lusts of the flesh, by unbridled lust, the ones who were escaping from those who live in error;

¹⁸ And Jehovah God said, It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.

⁶⁷ And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife. And he loved her. And Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

²⁰ And Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed to him a few days, for the love he had for her. ²¹ And Jacob said to Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, so that I may go in to her.

²⁸ And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week. And he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.

⁴ and you shall find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

¹⁵ Drink waters out of your own cistern, and running waters out of your own well. ¹⁶ Should your overflowing spring be scattered abroad as rivers of waters in the streets. ¹⁷ Let them be only your own, and not strangers' with you. ¹⁸ Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth. ¹⁹ Like the loving deer and pleasant doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times, and be ravished always with her love. ²⁰ And why will you, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? ²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of Jehovah, and He watches all his paths. ²² His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sin. ²³ He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

³⁵ For whoever finds me finds life, and shall obtain favor from Jehovah.

⁴ A woman of virtue is a crown to her husband, but she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones.

¹⁴ Houses and riches are the inheritance of fathers, and a prudent wife is from Jehovah.

¹⁰ Who can find a woman of virtue? For her value is far above rubies. ¹¹ The heart of her husband trusts safely in her, so that he shall have no need of plunder. ¹² She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. ¹³ She seeks wool and flax, and works willingly with her hands. ¹⁴ She is like the merchants' ships; she brings her food from afar. ¹⁵ She also rises while it is still night, and gives food to her household, and a share to her young women. ¹⁶ She considers a field, and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. ¹⁷ She binds her loins with strength, and makes her arms strong. ¹⁸ She sees that her merchandise is good; her lamp does not go out by night. ¹⁹ She lays her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. ²⁰ She stretches out her hand to the poor; yea, she reaches forth her hands to the needy. ²¹ She is not afraid of the snow for her household; for all her household are clothed with scarlet. ²² She makes herself coverings; her clothing is silk and purple. ²³ Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. ²⁴ She makes fine linen and sells it, and delivers girdles to the merchants. ²⁵ Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. ²⁶ She opens her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. ²⁷ She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. ²⁸ Her sons rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. ²⁹ Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all. ³⁰ Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears Jehovah, she shall be praised. ³¹ Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

⁹ Look on life with the wife whom you love all the days of the life of your vanity, which He has given you under the sun, all the days of your vanity. For that is your share in this life, and in your labor which you labor under the sun.

¹² And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept watch.

² But, because of the fornications, let each have his own wife, and let each have her own husband.

⁷ And Joseph saw his brothers, and he knew them, but remained a stranger to them, and spoke roughly to them. And he said to them, Where do you come from? And they said, From the land of Canaan to buy food.

³⁰ The man, the lord of the land, spoke roughly to us, and took us for spies of the country.

² And Pharaoh said, Who is Jehovah, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know Jehovah, neither will I let Israel go.

⁷ And she said, Please let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves. And she came, and has kept on from the morning until now, but that she stayed a little in the house.

³⁶ And it shall be that everyone who is left in your house shall come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a piece of bread. And they shall say, Please put me into one of the priests' offices so that I may eat a piece of bread.

¹⁰ And Nabal answered David's servants and said, Who is David? And who is the son of Jesse? The servants who have broken away, each man from his master, have multiplied.

¹⁷ And now know and consider what you will do, for evil is determined against our master and against all his household. For he is a son of worthlessness, so that none can speak to him.

¹ And a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried to Elisha, saying, Your servant my husband is dead. And you know that your servant feared Jehovah. And the lender has come to take my two children to himself for slaves. ² And Elisha said to her, What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house? And she said, Your handmaid has not a thing in the house except a pot of oil.

² For all those My hand has made, and all those exist, says Jehovah. But to this one I will look, to the afflicted and contrite spirit, and the one who trembles at My Word.

³ Blessed are the poor in spirit! For theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.

⁹ But let the humble brother rejoice in his exaltation; ¹⁰ and the rich one rejoice in his humiliation, because he shall pass away as the flower of the grass. ¹¹ For the sun rose with the hot wind and dried up the grass, and its flower fell out, and the beauty of its appearance perished; so also the rich one will fade away in his ways.

³ and if you have respect to him who has the fancy clothing and say to him, You sit here in a good place, and say to the poor, You stand there, or sit here under my footstool;

⁶ But you dishonored the poor one. Do not rich men oppress you and draw you before the judgment seats?

⁴ And Jonathan spoke good of David to Saul his father, and said to him, Do not let the king sin against his servant, against David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his works are very good toward you. ⁵ For he took his life in his hand and killed the Philistine, and Jehovah worked out a great salvation for all Israel. You saw and rejoiced! Why then will you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause?

²⁶ And David came to Ziklag, and sent some of the spoil to the elders of Judah, to his friends, saying, Behold, a present for you from the spoil of the enemies of Jehovah; ²⁷ to the ones in Bethel, and to the ones in Ramoth of the south, and to the ones in Jattir, ²⁸ and to the ones in Aroer, and to the ones in Siphmoth, and to the ones in Eshtemoa, ²⁹ and to the ones in Rachal, and to the ones in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to the ones in the cities of the Kenites, ³⁰ and to the ones in Hormah, and to the ones in Chorashan, and to the ones in Athach, ³¹ and to the ones in Hebron, and to all the places where David had gone up and down, he and his men.

²⁶ I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan. Very pleasant you have been to me. Your love to me was wonderful, more than the love of women.

¹ And David said, Is there still any that is left from the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake? ² And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And they called him to David, and the king said to him, Are you Ziba? And he said, Your servant. ³ And the king said, Is there not still any of the house of Saul, so that I may show the kindness of God to him? And Ziba said to the king, Jonathan still has a son, who is lame in his feet. ⁴ And the king said to him, Where is he? And Ziba said to the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lodebar. ⁵ And King David sent and brought him out of the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar. ⁶ And Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, and fell on his face and bowed to him. And David said, Mephibosheth! And he answered, Behold your servant! ⁷ And David said to him, Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father's sake, and will restore you all the land of Saul your father. And you shall eat bread at my table forever. ⁸ And he bowed himself and said, What is your servant, that you should look upon such a dead dog as I? ⁹ Then the king called to Ziba, Saul's servant, and said to him, I have given to your master's son all that belonged to Saul and to all his house. ¹⁰ And you shall till the land for him, you and your sons and your servants. And you shall bring in the fruits so that your master's son may have bread to eat. But Mephibosheth, your master's son, shall eat bread always at my table. And Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. ¹¹ And Ziba said to the king, According to all that my lord the king has commanded his servant, so shall your servant do. And Mephibosheth was eating at my table like one of the king's sons. ¹² And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micah. And all that lived in the house of Ziba were servants to Mephibosheth. ¹³ And Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem. For he always sat at the king's table. And he was lame in both his feet.

¹⁷ And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this your kindness to your friend? Why did you not go with your friend?

²⁷ And it happened when David came to Mahanaim, Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah, of the sons of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim, ²⁸ brought beds and basins and earthen vessels, and wheat and barley and flour and roasted grain, and beans and lentils and other roasted food, ²⁹ and honey and butter and sheep and cheese from cows, for David and for the people with him to eat. For they said, The people are hungry and weary and thirsty in the wilderness.

³⁰ And Mephibosheth said to the king, Yes, let him take all, because my lord the king has come in peace to his own house. ³¹ And Barzillai of Gilead came down from Rogelim, and went over Jordan with the king to conduct him over Jordan. ³² And Barzillai was a very aged man, eighty years old. And he had provided food for the king while he abode at Mahanaim, for he was a very great man. ³³ And the king said to Barzillai, Come over with me and I will sustain you with me in Jerusalem. ³⁴ And Barzillai said to the king, How long do I have to live, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem? ³⁵ I am eighty years old today, and can I discern between good and evil? Can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? Can I any more hear the voice of singing men and singing women? Why then should your servant be still a burden to my lord the king? ³⁶ Your servant will go a little way over Jordan with the king. And why should the king repay me with such a reward? ³⁷ Please let your servant return so that I may die in my own city by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold your servant Chimham, let him go over with my lord the king. And do to him what shall seem good to you. ³⁸ And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good to you. And whatever you shall ask of me, that I will do for you. ³⁹ And all the people went over Jordan. And when the king had come over, the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him. And he returned to his place.

⁷ But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of Jehovah's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

³⁸ All these were men of war, keeping rank, they came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over Israel. And also all the rest of Israel was of one heart to make David king. ³⁹ And they were with David three days, eating and drinking. For their brothers had prepared food for them. ⁴⁰ And also those who were near them, even to Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen. And they brought food, meal, cakes of figs and bunches of raisins, and wine and oil, and oxen and sheep abundantly. For there was joy in Israel.

¹⁷ A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for the time of trouble.

⁹ Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart; so does the sweetness of one's friend by advice from the heart.

⁴⁹ And coming up to Jesus immediately, he said, Hail, Master! And he kissed Him. ⁵⁰ And Jesus said to him, Friend, why are you here? Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him.

¹³ No one has greater love than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. ¹⁴ You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. ¹⁵ No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master does. But I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.
