¹ And they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are robbing the threshing-floors. ² Therefore David inquired of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go and kill* these Philistines? And Jehovah said to David, Go and kill* the Philistines and save Keilah.
³ And David's men said to him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines? ⁴ Then David inquired of Jehovah yet again. And Jehovah answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah, for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.
⁵ And David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines and brought away their cattle and killed them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.
⁶ And it happened, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand. ⁷ And it was told Saul that David came to Keilah. And Saul said, God has delivered him into my hand, for he is shut in by entering into a town that has gates and bars. ⁸ And Saul summoned all the people to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men. ⁹ And David knew that Saul was devising mischief against him and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring here the ephod.
¹⁰ Then said David, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah to destroy the city for my sake. ¹¹ Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? Will Saul come down as your servant has heard? O Jehovah, the God of Israel, I beseech you, tell your servant. And Jehovah said, He will come down. ¹² Then David said, Will the men of Keilah deliver up me and my men into the hand of Saul? And Jehovah said, They will deliver you up.
¹³ Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah and went wherever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah and he ceased to go forth.
¹⁴ And David abode in the wilderness in the strongholds and remained in the hill-country in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God did not deliver him into his hand. ¹⁵ And David saw that Saul came out to seek his life and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in the forest.
¹⁶ And Jonathan, Saul's son, arose and went to David into the forest and strengthened his hand in God. ¹⁷ And he said to him, Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father will not find you. And you will be king over Israel and I will be next to you. And that, Saul my father also knows. ¹⁸ And those two made a covenant before Jehovah. And David abode in the forest and Jonathan went to his house.
¹⁹ Then the Ziphites came up to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Does not David hide himself with us in the strongholds in the forest, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of the desert? ²⁰ Now therefore, O king, come down, according to all the desire of your soul to come down and our part will be to deliver him up into the king's hand.
²¹ And Saul said, You* are blessed of Jehovah, for you* have had compassion on me. ²² Go, I beseech you*, make yet more sure and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who has seen him there, for it is told me that he deals very shrewdly.
²³ See therefore and take knowledge of all the lurking-places where he hides himself and come you* again to me of a certainty. And I will go with you* and it will happen, if he is in the land, that I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.
²⁴ And they arose and went to Ziph before Saul, but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the Arabah on the south of the desert. ²⁵ And Saul and his men went to seek him. And they told David. Therefore he came down to the rock and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.
²⁶ And Saul went on this side of the mountain and David and his men on that side of the mountain. And David made haste to get away for fear of Saul. For Saul and his men encompassed David and his men all around to take them.
²⁷ But there came a messenger to Saul, saying, You hasten and come, for the Philistines have made a raid upon the land. ²⁸ So Saul returned from pursuing after David and went against the Philistines. Therefore they called that place Sela-hammahlekoth. ²⁹ And David went up from there and dwelt in the strongholds of En-gedi.

¹⁶ I also will do this to you*: I will appoint terror over you*, even consumption and fever, that will consume the eyes and make the soul to pine away. And you* will sow your* seed in vain, for your* enemies will eat it.

³³ The fruit of your ground and all your labors, will a nation eat up which you do not know. And you will only be oppressed and crushed always,

⁵¹ and will eat the fruit of your cattle and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed, that also will not leave you grain, new wine, or oil, the increase of your cattle, or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish.

⁴⁴ and Keilah and Achzib and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages.

⁴ And they encamped against them and destroyed the increase of the earth, till you come to Gaza and left no sustenance in Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor donkey.

¹¹ And the messenger of Jehovah came and sat under the oak which was in Ophrah that pertained to Joash the Abiezrite. And his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.

¹⁷ After him the Levites, Rehum the son of Bani, repaired.
Next to him Hashabiah, the ruler of half the district of Keilah, repaired for his district.
¹⁸ After him their brothers, Bavvai the son of Henadad, the ruler of half the district of Keilah, repaired.

¹⁵ You will sow, but will not reap, you will tread the olives, but will not anoint you with oil and the vintage, but will not drink the wine.

²¹ And he will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before Jehovah. At his word will they go out and at his word they will come in, both he and all the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation.

¹⁴ And the men took of their provision and did not ask counsel at the mouth of Jehovah.

¹ And it happened after the death of Joshua, that the sons of Israel asked of Jehovah, saying, Who will go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?

⁴ Then David inquired of Jehovah yet again. And Jehovah answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah, for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.

⁶ And it happened, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.

⁹ And David knew that Saul was devising mischief against him and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring here the ephod.
¹⁰ Then said David, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah to destroy the city for my sake. ¹¹ Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? Will Saul come down as your servant has heard? O Jehovah, the God of Israel, I beseech you, tell your servant. And Jehovah said, He will come down. ¹² Then David said, Will the men of Keilah deliver up me and my men into the hand of Saul? And Jehovah said, They will deliver you up.

⁸ And David inquired of Jehovah, saying, If I pursue after this troop, shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue, for you will surely overtake them and will without fail recover all.

¹⁹ And David inquired of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand? And Jehovah said to David, Go up, for I will certainly deliver the Philistines into your hand.

²³ And when David inquired of Jehovah, he said, You will not go up. Make a circuit behind them and come upon them opposite the mulberry trees.

¹⁰ And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will you deliver them into my hand? And Jehovah said to him, Go up, for I will deliver them into your hand.

⁸ I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you will go. I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

⁵ Trust in Jehovah with all your heart and do not lean upon your own understanding. ⁶ Acknowledge him in all your ways and he will direct your paths.

²³ O Jehovah, I know that the way of man is not in himself. It is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

¹⁵ And David saw that Saul came out to seek his life and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in the forest.

²³ See therefore and take knowledge of all the lurking-places where he hides himself and come you* again to me of a certainty. And I will go with you* and it will happen, if he is in the land, that I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.

²⁶ And Saul went on this side of the mountain and David and his men on that side of the mountain. And David made haste to get away for fear of Saul. For Saul and his men encompassed David and his men all around to take them.

¹ I take refuge in Jehovah. How will you* say to my soul, Flee like a bird to your* mountain.

⁵ If you have run with the footmen and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? And though in a land of peace you are secure, yet how will you do in the pride of the Jordan?

⁷ And you* will rise up from the ambush and take possession of the city, for Jehovah your* God will deliver it into your* hand.

³⁹ And Gideon said to God, Do not let your anger be kindled against me and I will speak but this once. I beseech you, let me make a trial but this once with the fleece. Let it now be dry only upon the fleece and upon all the ground let there be dew.

⁷ And Jehovah said to Gideon, By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you* and deliver the Midianites into your hand. And let all the people go every man to his place.

⁶ And when Saul inquired of Jehovah, Jehovah answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

¹⁸ And this is but a light thing in the sight of Jehovah. He will also deliver the Moabites into your* hand.

³⁰ And you will put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim and they will be upon Aaron’s heart, when he goes in before Jehovah. And Aaron will bear the judgment of the sons of Israel upon his heart before Jehovah continually.
³¹ And you will make the robe of the ephod all of blue.

³ and Ahijah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the priest of Jehovah in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. And the people did not know that Jonathan had gone.

¹⁸ And Saul said to Ahijah, Bring here the ark of God. For the ark of God was there at that time with the sons of Israel.

³⁶ And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night and take spoil among them until the morning light and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatever seems good to you. Then the priest said, Let us draw near here to God. ³⁷ And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel? But he did not answer him that day.

²⁰ And one of the sons of Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped and fled after David.

³ And Pharaoh will say of the sons of Israel, They are entangled in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.

⁹ The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire will be satisfied upon them. I will draw my sword, my hand will destroy them.

² And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson has come here. And they encompassed him in and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city and were quiet all the night, saying, Not till morning light, then we will kill him.
³ And Samson lay till midnight and arose at midnight and laid hold of the doors of the gate of the city and the two posts and plucked them up, bar and all and put them upon his shoulders and carried them up to the top of the mountain that is before Hebron.

¹⁴ And David abode in the wilderness in the strongholds and remained in the hill-country in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God did not deliver him into his hand.

⁴ And the men of David said to him, Behold, the day of which Jehovah said to you, Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand and you will do to him as it will seem good to you. Then David arose and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe secretly.
⁵ And it happened afterward, that David's heart killed* him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt. ⁶ And he said to his men, Jehovah forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, Jehovah's anointed, to put forth my hand against him, since he is Jehovah's anointed.

⁸ Then said Abishai to David, God has delivered up your enemy into your hand this day. Now therefore, I beseech you, let me kill* him with the spear to the earth at one stroke and I will not kill* him the second time.
⁹ And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not, for who can put forth his hand against Jehovah's anointed and be guiltless?

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short and the joy of the profane but for a moment?

¹⁰ Because my enemies speak concerning me and those who watch for my soul take counsel together, ¹¹ saying, God has forsaken him. Pursue and take him, because there is none to deliver.

⁴³ Because the days will be coming upon you, and your enemies will put a military-barrier around you and will surround you, and will crowd you on every-side, ⁴⁴ and will be leveling you to the bedrock, and your children among you, and they will not be leaving in you one stone upon another stone, because you did not know the time of your visitation.

⁷ And David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, I beseech you, bring me here the ephod. And Abiathar brought there the ephod to David.

¹⁸ And Jehovah gave me knowledge of it and I knew it. Then you showed me their practices. ¹⁹ But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter. And I did not know that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit of it. And let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may no more be remembered.

³ Call to me and I will answer you and will show you great things and difficult, which you do not know.

²⁴ but their pact became known to Saul. And they were guarding the gates both day and night that they might assassinate him.

⁶ being conscious of it, they fled for refuge to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and the region around them.

¹⁶ But Paul’s sister’s son, having heard of their murderous plot, came and entered into the encampment and reported to Paul. ¹⁷ Now Paul, having called one of the centurions, said, Lead this young-man away to the commander; for he has something to report to him.
¹⁸ Therefore indeed, he took him and led him to the commander and says, Paul the prisoner, having called me, asked me to lead this young-man to you, who has something to say to you.

²⁴ Perhaps there are fifty righteous men within the city. Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous men that are in it?

¹⁹ And Nob, the city of the priests, he killed* with the edge of the sword, both men and women, sons and nursing-babes and oxen and donkeys and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

⁸ And Saul summoned all the people to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.

⁶ But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone, for they had made known to him the people of Mordecai. Therefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.

¹⁵ A roaring lion and a ranging bear, is a wicked ruler over a poor people.

¹⁵ ‘Their feet are swift to shed blood; ¹⁶ downfall and miseries are in their ways;

¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you and you will glorify me.

⁷ Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will be finding; knock and it will be opened to you. ⁸ For everyone who is asking, receives; and the one who is seeking, finds; and to the one who is knocking, it will be opened.

⁷ And it was told Saul that David came to Keilah. And Saul said, God has delivered him into my hand, for he is shut in by entering into a town that has gates and bars.

²⁰ Now therefore, O king, come down, according to all the desire of your soul to come down and our part will be to deliver him up into the king's hand.

⁸ and you have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy. You have set my feet in a large place.

¹ My soul waits in silence for God only. My salvation is from him.

⁸ It is better to take refuge in Jehovah than to put confidence in man.

¹⁴ There was a little city and few men within it. And there came a great king against it and besieged it and built great ramparts against it. ¹⁵ Now there was found in it a poor wise man. And hedelivered the city by his wisdom, yet no man remembered that same poor man.

¹⁵ Woe to those who hide deep their counsel from Jehovah and whose works are in the dark and who say, Who sees us? and, Who knows us?

¹³ And there is no created thing unapparent in his sight, but all things are naked and have been laid-bare to his eyes to whom is our account.

² And every man who was in distress and every man who was in debt and every man who was discontented, gathered themselves to him and he became captain over them. And there were with him about four hundred men.

¹³ And David said to his men, Gird you* on every man his sword. And they girded on every man his sword and David also girded on his sword. And there went up after David about four hundred men and two hundred abode by the baggage.

⁹ So David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him and came to the brook Besor, where those who were left behind stayed. ¹⁰ But David pursued, he and four hundred men, for two hundred stayed behind, who were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor.

²⁰ You came but yesterday, should I this day make you go up and down with us, seeing I go where I may? Return and take back your brothers. Mercy and truth be with you.

²⁴ Ziph and Telem and Bealoth,

⁵⁵ Maon, Carmel and Ziph and Juttah,

¹ And David said in his heart, I will now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel, so I will escape out of his hand.

¹ I take refuge in Jehovah. How will you* say to my soul, Flee like a bird to your* mountain.
² Because, behold, the wicked bend the bow. They make ready their arrow upon the string that they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart. ³ Because the foundations are destroyed, what can a righteous man do?

⁷ You are my hiding-place. You will preserve me from trouble. You will encompass me around with songs of deliverance. Selah.

³² A wicked man watches a righteous man and seeks to kill him. ³³ Jehovah will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

³ Because strangers have risen up against me and violent men have sought after my soul. They have not set God before them. Selah.
⁴ Behold, God is my helper. The Lord is of those who uphold my soul.

¹⁶ Because their feet run to evil and they make haste to shed blood.

¹⁶ Because they do not sleep unless they do evil. And their sleep is taken away unless they cause you to fall.

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against Jehovah.

²⁶ And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king's son and Seraiah the son of Azriel and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet, but Jehovah hid them.

³¹ Therefore what will we say to these things? If God is working on our behalf, who is against us?

¹¹ my persecutions and my sufferings, such-as happened to me in Antioch, in Iconium, and in Lystra. I underwent many persecutions such-as these, and the Lord rescued me out of all of them. \ulnone\nosupersub

¹⁷ But the Lord stood beside me and empowered me; in order that the preaching might be fully assured through me and in order that all the Gentiles might hear and I was rescued out of the mouth of the lion. ¹⁸ The Lord will be rescuing me from every evil work and will save me for his heavenly kingdom: in whom is the glory, forevermore. Amen.

²⁸ But charge Joshua and encourage him and strengthen him, for he will go over before this people and he will cause them to inherit the land which you will see.

⁶ And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters. But David strengthened himself in Jehovah his God.

¹⁸ And I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me, as also of the king's words that he had spoken to me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for the good work.

³ Behold, you have instructed many and you have strengthened the weak hands. ⁴ Your words have upheld him who was falling and you have made firm the feeble knees.

⁵ But I would strengthen you* with my mouth and the solace of my lips would keep back your * grief.

⁹ Oil and perfume rejoice the heart, so too the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.

¹⁷ Iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

⁹ Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. ¹⁰ Because if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow, but woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up. ¹¹ Again, if two lie together, then they have warmth, but how can one be warm alone? ¹² And if a man prevails against he who is alone, two will withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

³ Strengthen you* the weak hands and confirm the feeble knees. ⁴ Say to those who are of a fearful heart, Be strong, do not fear. Behold, your* God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you*.

²² Because with lies you* have grieved the heart of the righteous, whom I have not made sad and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way and be saved alive.

³² But I besought concerning you, in order that your faith may not fail, and someday having turned back again, establish your brethren.

⁴³ Now a messenger from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him.

¹⁰ Furthermore, my brethren, be empowered in the Lord and in the dominion of his strength.

¹ You therefore, my child, be empowered in the grace which is in Christ Jesus.

¹² Hence straighten the drooping hands and the paralyzed knees; ¹³ and make^*\'b0 straightened tracks for your feet, in order that what is lame may not be turned aside, but rather should be healed.

³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the ground, you will not be established, nor your kingdom. Therefore now send and fetch him to me, for he will surely die.

²⁰ And now, behold, I know that you will surely be king and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hand.

¹¹ so that he sets up on high those who are low and those who mourn are exalted to safety.
¹² He frustrates the devices of the crafty so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise. ¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness and the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong. ¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the daytime and grope at noonday as in the night.
¹⁵ But he saves from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty.

¹ Jehovah is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? Jehovah is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?
² When evildoers came upon me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell. ³ Though an army should encamp against me, my heart will not fear. Though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident.

¹ God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
² Therefore we will not fear, though the earth changes and though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas,

¹ He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will abide under the shadow of the Almighty
² I will say of Jehovah, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.

²⁶ Strong confidence is in the fear of Jehovah and his sons will have a place of refuge.

²¹ There are many devices in a man's heart, but the counsel of Jehovah, that will stand.

¹⁰ Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

¹⁴ Do not fear, you worm Jacob and you* men of Israel. I will help you, says Jehovah and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁷ No weapon that is formed against you will prosper. And every tongue that will rise against you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of Jehovah and their righteousness which is of me, says Jehovah.

³² Do not fear, little flock, because your Father was delighted to give you the kingdom.

³⁹ but if it is from God, you will not be able to tear it down; lest you might be found even to be quarreling against God.

¹⁶ Now when we came to Rome, the centurion gave the prisoners to the camp-commander, but Paul was permitted to abide by himself together with the soldier guarding him.

²⁴ Like whenever I travel through toward Spain, I will be coming to you, (for I am hoping to see you when I am traveling through and to be sent onward by you, if first I may be partially filled from you).

⁶ So-that we, being courageous, may say, The Lord is my helper and I will not be fearing. What will man be doing for me?

³ Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

¹² And Jonathan said to David, Jehovah, the God of Israel, when I have searched out my father about this time tomorrow, or the third day, behold, if there is good toward David, shall I not then send to you and disclose it to you? ¹³ Jehovah do so to Jonathan and more also, should it please my father to do you evil, if I not disclose it to you and send you away that you may go in peace. And Jehovah be with you as he has been with my father.
¹⁴ And you will not only show me the loving kindness of Jehovah, while I yet live, that I not die, ¹⁵ but also you will not cut off your kindness from my house until everlasting. No, not when Jehovah has cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.
¹⁶ So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, And Jehovah will require it at the hand of David's enemies. ¹⁷ And Jonathan caused David to swear again, for the love that he had to him. For he loved him as he loved his own soul.

⁴² And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, inasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of Jehovah, saying, Jehovah will be between me and you and between my seed and your seed, until everlasting. And he arose and departed and Jonathan went into the city.

¹ And David said, Is there yet any who is left of the house of Saul that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake?

⁷ But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of Jehovah's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

⁷ And Saul said to his servants who stood about him, Hear now, you* Benjamites. Will the son of Jesse give every one of you* fields and vineyards? Will he make you* all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, ⁸ that all of you* have conspired against me and there is none who discloses to me when my son makes a league with the son of Jesse? And there is none of you* who is sorry for me, or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day.

¹ And the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah, saying, Does not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert?

³ And Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert by the way. But David abode in the wilderness and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

¹ Save me, O God, by your name and judge me in your might. ² Hear my prayer, O God. Listen to the words of my mouth. ³ Because strangers have risen up against me and violent men have sought after my soul. They have not set God before them. Selah.
⁴ Behold, God is my helper. The Lord is of those who uphold my soul. ⁵ He will reward the evil to my enemies. Destroy them in your truth.
⁶ I will sacrifice to you with a free-will offering. I will give thanks to your name, O Jehovah, because it is good. ⁷ Because he has delivered me out of all trouble and my eye has seen it upon my enemies.

¹² If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his servants are wicked.

⁶ And if a Levite comes from any of your gates out of all Israel, where he travels and comes with all the desire of his soul to the place which Jehovah will choose,

¹² Then David said, Will the men of Keilah deliver up me and my men into the hand of Saul? And Jehovah said, They will deliver you up.

²¹ And Abner said to David, I will arise and go and will gather all Israel to my lord the king that they may make a covenant with you and that you may reign over all that your soul desires. And David sent Abner away and he went in peace.

¹¹ And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, just-as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast and set Naboth on high among the people.
¹³ And the two men, the worthless fellows, came in and sat before him. And the worthless fellows bore witness against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth cursed God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city and stoned him to death with stones. ¹⁴ Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned and is dead.

⁵ And he who was over the household and he who was over the city, the elders also and those who brought up the sons, sent to Jehu, saying, We are your servants and will do all that you will bid us. We will not make any man king. Do you what is good in your eyes.
⁶ Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If you* are on my side and if you* will listen to my voice, take the heads of the men your* master's sons and come to me to Jezreel by tomorrow this time. Now the king's sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city who reared them.
⁷ And it happened, when the letter came to them, that they took the king's sons and killed them, even seventy persons and put their heads in baskets and sent them to him to Jezreel.

³ Because strangers have risen up against me and violent men have sought after my soul. They have not set God before them. Selah.

¹⁰ A wicked man will see it and be grieved. He will gnash with his teeth and melt away. The desire of wicked men will perish.

²³ The desire of the righteous is only good. The expectation of the wicked is wrath.

²⁶ Many seek the ruler's favor, but a man's justice is from Jehovah.

² And he said to his mother, The eleven hundred pieces of silver that were taken from you, about which you uttered a curse and also spoke it in my ears, behold, the silver is with me. I took it. And his mother said, My son from Jehovah is blessed.

⁸ that all of you* have conspired against me and there is none who discloses to me when my son makes a league with the son of Jesse? And there is none of you* who is sorry for me, or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day.

³ Because the wicked man boasts of his heart's desire. And the greedy man renounces, yes, despises Jehovah.

⁵ Hear the word of Jehovah, you* who tremble at his word: Your* brothers who hate you*, who cast you* out for my name's sake, have said, Let Jehovah be glorified, that we may see your* joy. But it is those who will be put to shame.

¹¹ The heads of it judge for a bribe and the priests of it teach for a wage and the prophets of it divine for money.
Yet they lean upon Jehovah and say, Is not Jehovah in the midst of us? No evil will come upon us.

¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness and the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.

³⁶ And when it rested, he said, Return, O Jehovah, to the ten thousands of the thousands of Israel.

¹¹ But I counsel that all Israel be gathered together to you, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude and that you go to battle in your own person. ¹² So we will come upon him in some place where he will be found and we will light upon him as the dew falls on the ground and of him and of all the men who are with him we will not leave so much as one.
¹³ Moreover, if he is gathered into a city, then all Israel will bring ropes to that city and we will draw it into the river until there is not one small stone found there.

¹⁰ As Jehovah your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent to seek you. And when they said, He is not here, he took an oath from the kingdom and nation that they did not find you.

² But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, which are little to be among the thousands of Judah, out of you he will come out to me who is to be ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from long-ago, from the days of everlasting.

¹ Now after two days it was the feast of the Passover and the unleavened bread, and the high-priests and the scribes were seeking how they might take-hold of him in treachery and might kill him;

¹⁰ And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went away to the high-priests in order that he might give him up to them. ¹¹ Now having heard it, they rejoiced and promised to give him silver. And he was seeking how he might opportunely give him up.

² Now Judas, (who is giving him up), also knew the place, because Jesus gathered there often together with his disciples. ³ Therefore, having received the cohort and attendants from the high-priests and the Pharisees, Judas comes there with lanterns and torches and weapons.

² And there was a man in Maon whose possessions were in Carmel. And the man was very great in goods and he had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats. And he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

⁸ And he killed* them hip and thigh with a great slaughter. And he went down and dwelt in the cleft of the rock of Etam.

²⁸ So Saul returned from pursuing after David and went against the Philistines. Therefore they called that place Sela-hammahlekoth.

¹² So Michal let David down through the window and he went and fled and escaped.

³⁸ And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make speed, haste, stay not. And Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows and came to his master.

¹⁴ And David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, Arise and let us flee, for otherwise none of us will escape from Absalom. Make speed to depart, lest he overtake us quickly and bring down evil upon us and kill* the city with the edge of the sword.

²¹ And it happened, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well and went and told king David. And they said to David, Arise and pass quickly over the water, for thus Ahithophel has counseled against you*.
²² Then David arose and all the people who were with him and they passed over the Jordan. By the morning light there lacked not one of them who was not gone over the Jordan.

¹² O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us. Neither do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.

⁹ from the wicked who oppress me, my deadly enemies, who encompass me around.

¹¹ They have now encompassed us in our steps. They set their eyes to cast down to the earth.

¹² Many bulls have encompassed me. Strong bulls of Bashan have beset me around.

¹⁶ Because dogs have encompassed me. A company of evildoers have enclosed me. They pierced my hands and my feet.

²² As for me, I said in my haste, I am cut off from before your eyes. Nevertheless you heard the voice of my supplications when I cried to you.

¹¹ They encompassed me around, yes, they encompassed me around. I will cut them off in the name of Jehovah. ¹² They encompassed me around like bees. They are quenched as the fire of thorns. I will cut them off in the name of Jehovah.
¹³ You thrust greatly at me that I might fall, but Jehovah helped me.

¹ Deliver me, O Jehovah, from the evil man. Preserve me from the violent man, ² and men who devise mischievous things in their heart. They gather themselves continually together for war. ³ They have sharpened their tongue like a serpent. Adders' poison is under their lips. Selah.
⁴ Keep me, O Jehovah, from the hands of a wicked man. Preserve me from violent men, who have purposed to thrust aside my steps. ⁵ The proud have hid a snare for me and cords. They have spread a net by the wayside. They have set snares for me. Selah.
⁶ I said to Jehovah, You are my God. Listen to the voice of my supplications, O Jehovah.
⁷ O Jehovah the Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle.
⁸ Do not grant, O Jehovah, the desires of the wicked man. Do not further his evil device. They exalt themselves. Selah.
⁹ As for the head of those who encompass me around, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

⁸ For brethren, we do not wish you to be ignorant in regard to our affliction which happened to us in Asia, that we were burdened down surpassingly, beyond our power, so-that we despaired even to be living.

⁹ And they went up over the width of the earth and surrounded the encampment of the holy-ones and the beloved city and fire from God came down out of heaven and devoured them.

¹⁴ And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh. As it is said to this day, It will be provided in the mountain of Jehovah.

³⁶ For Jehovah will judge his people and regrets for his servants, when he sees that their power has gone and there is none remaining, shut up or left at large.

⁹ And when he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, Behold, he comes out to fight against you, he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,

¹³ And the Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley.

³ The cords of death encompassed me and the pains of Sheol found me. I found trouble and sorrow.

¹⁶ And the earth helped the woman and the earth opened her mouth and swallowed up the river which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

⁷ And they returned and came to En-mishpat (which is Kadesh) and killed* all the country of the Amalekites and also the Amorites, who dwelt in Hazazon-tamar.

⁶² and Nibshan and the City of Salt and En-gedi; six cities with their villages.

¹ And it happened, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.

² Then there came some who told Jehoshaphat, saying, There comes a great multitude against you from beyond the sea from Syria. And behold, they are in Hazazon-tamar (what is En-gedi).

¹⁴ My beloved is to me a cluster of henna flowers in the vineyards of En-gedi.

¹⁰ And it will happen, that fishermen will stand by it. From En-gedi even to En-eglaim will be a place for the spreading of nets. Their fish will be according to their kinds, as the fish of the great sea, very many.
