³⁵ Vengeance is for me and recompense at the time when their foot will slip. For the day of their calamity is at hand and the things that are to come upon them will make haste.

²² And the prophet came near to the King of Israel and said to him, Go, strengthen yourself. And mark and see what you do, for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against you.

²⁶ And it happened at the return of the year, that Ben-hadad mustered the Syrians and went up to Aphek to fight against Israel.

¹⁷ Then Hazael king of Syria went up and fought against Gath and took it. And Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem. ¹⁸ And Joash king of Judah took all the holy things that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated and his own holy things and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of Jehovah and of the king's house and sent it to Hazael king of Syria. And he went away from Jerusalem.

¹⁷ Now after the death of Jehoiada the rulers of Judah came and bowed-down to the king. Then the king listened to them. ¹⁸ And they forsook the house of Jehovah, the God of their fathers and served the Asherim and the idols. And wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their guiltiness.

¹⁰ Now therefore be wise, O you* kings. Be instructed, you* judges of the earth. ¹¹ Serve Jehovah with fear and rejoice with trembling.

¹⁰ A righteous man will rejoice because he sees the vengeance. He will wash his feet in the blood of the wicked, ¹¹ so that men will say, Truly there is a reward for the righteous man. Truly there is a God who judges in the earth.

⁶ I said, You* are gods and all of you* sons of the Most High. ⁷ Nevertheless you* will die like men and fall like one of the rulers.
