¹ Belshazzar the king made a great feast for a thousand of his lords and drank wine before the thousand. ² Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem, that the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, might drink from there.
³ Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem. And the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, drank from them. ⁴ They drank wine and praised the gods of gold and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood and of stone.
⁵ In the same hour the fingers of a man's hand came out and wrote opposite the lamp-stand upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace. And the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
⁶ Then the king's countenance was changed in him and his thoughts troubled him. And the joints of his loins were loosed and his knees killed* one against another.
⁷ The king cried aloud to bring in the enchanters, the Chaldeans and the soothsayers. The king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whoever will read this writing and show me the interpretation of it, will be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold about his neck and will be the third ruler in the kingdom.
⁸ Then all the king's wise men came in, but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation. ⁹ Then king Belshazzar was greatly troubled and his countenance was changed in him and his lords were perplexed.
¹⁰ Now the queen came into the banquet house because of the words of the king and his lords. The queen spoke and said, O king, live forever. Do not let your thoughts trouble you, nor let your countenance be changed.
¹¹ There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. And in the days of your father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, were found in him. And the king Nebuchadnezzar your father, the king, I say, your father, made him master of the magicians, enchanters, Chaldeans and soothsayers, ¹² inasmuch as an excellent spirit and knowledge and understanding, interpreting of dreams and showing of dark sentences and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called and he will show the interpretation.
¹³ Then Daniel was brought in before the king. The king spoke and said to Daniel, Are you that Daniel, who are of the sons of the captivity of Judah, whom my father the king brought out of Judah? ¹⁴ I have heard of you, that the spirit of the gods is in you and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.
¹⁵ And now the wise men, the enchanters, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing and make known to me the interpretation of it, but they could not show the interpretation of the thing.
¹⁶ But I have heard of you, that you can give interpretations and dissolve doubts. Now if you can read the writing and make known to me the interpretation of it, you will be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold about your neck and will be the third ruler in the kingdom.
¹⁷ Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let your gifts be to yourself and give your rewards to another. Nevertheless I will read the writing to the king and make known to him the interpretation.
¹⁸ O you king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father the kingdom and greatness and glory and majesty. ¹⁹ And because of the greatness that he gave him, all the peoples, nations and languages trembled and feared before him. Whom he wanted, he killed and whom he wanted, he kept alive and whom he wanted, he raised up and whom he wanted, he put down.
²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne. And they took his glory from him, ²¹ and he was driven from the sons of men. And his heart was made like the beasts and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed with grass like oxen and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men and that he sets up over it whomever he will.
²² And you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this, ²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor know. And the God in whose hand your breath is and whose are all your ways, you have not glorified.
²⁴ Then the part of the hand was sent from before him and this writing was inscribed. ²⁵ And this is the writing that was inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
²⁶ This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE, God has numbered your kingdom and brought it to an end. ²⁷ TEKEL, you are weighed in the balances and are found wanting. ²⁸ PERES, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.
²⁹ Then Belshazzar commanded and they clothed Daniel with purple and put a chain of gold about his neck and made proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
³⁰ In that night Belshazzar the Chaldean King was slain. ³¹ And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.

²⁰ And it happened the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast to all his servants. And he lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants.

³ in the third year of his reign, he made a feast to all his rulers and his servants, the power of Persia and Media, the ranking men and rulers of the provinces, being before him

⁴ My heart wanders. Horror has frightened me. The twilight that I desired has been turned into trembling to me.
⁵ They prepare the table, they set the watch, they eat, they drink. Rise up, you* rulers, anoint the shield.

¹² And in that day the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, called for weeping and for mourning and for baldness and for girding with sackcloth.

¹⁴ And Jehovah of hosts revealed himself in my ears, Surely this iniquity will not be forgiven you* till you* die, says the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.

³⁹ When they are heated, I will make their feast. And I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice and sleep an everlasting sleep and not wake, says Jehovah.

⁵⁷ And I will make drunk her rulers and her wise men, her governors and her deputies and her mighty men. And they will sleep a everlasting sleep and not wake, says the King, whose name is Jehovah of hosts.

¹⁰ For entangled like thorns and drunken as with their drink, they are consumed utterly as dry stubble.

²¹ And when it happened to be an opportune day, along with his birthday, when Herod made a supper to his great-men and the commanders, and the foremost men of Galilee; ²² and the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, and she pleased Herod and those who reclined at the meal together with him. And the king said to the girl, Ask me whatever you wish and I will be giving it to you.

⁷ And David said to him, Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father's sake and will restore to you all the land of Saul your father and you will eat bread at my table continually.

²⁵ In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab King of Israel, Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign. ²⁶ Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he began to reign and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri King of Israel. ²⁷ And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab and did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah, as did the house of Ahab, for he was the son-in-law of the house of Ahab.

¹³ And he carried out from there all the treasures of the house of Jehovah and the treasures of the king's house and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold, which Solomon King of Israel had made in the temple of Jehovah, as Jehovah had said.

¹⁵ And the captain of the guard took away the censors and the basins, what was from gold, in gold and what was from silver, in silver.

²⁰ And after her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom. And she bore for him Abijah and Attai and Ziza and Shelomith.

¹⁶ And also he removed Maacah, the mother of Asa the king, from being queen, because she had made an abominable image for an Asherah. And Asa cut down her image and made dust of it and burnt it at the brook Kidron.

¹⁰ And at the return of the year king Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon, with the desirable vessels of the house of Jehovah and made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.

¹⁸ And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small and the treasures of the house of Jehovah and the treasures of the king and of his rulers, all these he brought to Babylon.

⁷ Also Cyrus the king brought out the vessels of the house of Jehovah, which Nebuchadnezzar had brought forth out of Jerusalem and had put in the house of his gods, ⁸ even those Cyrus king of Persia brought out by the hand of Mithredath the treasurer and numbered them to Sheshbazzar, the ruler of Judah.
⁹ And this is the number of them: thirty platters of gold, a thousand platters of silver, twenty-nine knives, ¹⁰ thirty bowls of gold, four hundred and ten silver bowls of a second sort and a thousand other vessels. ¹¹ All the vessels of gold and of silver were five thousand and four hundred. All these Sheshbazzar brought up when those of the captivity were brought up from Babylon to Jerusalem.

⁷ And all the nations will serve him and his son and his son's son, until the time of his own land comes. And then many nations and great kings will make him their bondman.

¹⁶ Also I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, Jehovah says thus: Listen not to the words of your* prophets who prophesy to you*, saying, Behold, the vessels of Jehovah's house will now shortly be brought again from Babylon, for they prophesy a lie to you*. ¹⁷ Listen not to them. Serve the king of Babylon and live. Why should this city become a desolation?
¹⁸ But if they are prophets and if the word of Jehovah is with them, let them now make intercession to Jehovah of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of Jehovah and in the house of the king of Judah and at Jerusalem, not go to Babylon.
¹⁹ For Jehovah of hosts says thus concerning the pillars and concerning the sea and concerning the stands and concerning the residue of the vessels that are left in this city, ²⁰ which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, from Jerusalem to Babylon and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem. ²¹ Yes, Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that are left in the house of Jehovah and in the house of the king of Judah and at Jerusalem: ²² They will be carried to Babylon and there they will be until the day that I visit them, says Jehovah. Then I will bring them up and restore them to this place.

¹⁹ And the cups and the censors and the basins and the pots and the lamp-stands and the spoons and the bowls–what was from gold, in gold and what was from silver, in silver–the captain of the guard took away.

² And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God. And he carried them into the land of Shinar to the house of his god and he brought the vessels into the treasure-house of his god.

⁴ They drank wine and praised the gods of gold and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood and of stone.

²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor know. And the God in whose hand your breath is and whose are all your ways, you have not glorified.

²³ And the lords of the Philistines gathered together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god and to rejoice, for they said, Our god has delivered Samson our enemy into our hand. ²⁴ And when the people saw him, they praised their god, for they said, Our god has delivered into our hand our enemy and the destroyer of our country who has slain many of us.

⁴ Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. ⁵ They have mouths, but they do not speak. They have eyes, but they do not see. ⁶ They have ears, but they do not hear. They have noses, but they do not smell. ⁷ They have hands, but they do not handle. They have feet, but they do not walk, nor do they speak through their throat.
⁸ Those who make them will be like them. Yes, everyone who trusts in them.

¹⁵ The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.
¹⁶ They have mouths, but they do not speak. They have eyes, but they do not see. ¹⁷ They have ears, but they do not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouths.
¹⁸ Those who make them will be like them, yes, everyone who trusts in them.

¹⁹ The image, a workman has cast it and the goldsmith overlays it with gold and casts for it silver chains. ²⁰ He who is too impoverished for such an oblation chooses a tree that will not rot. He seeks for him a skillful workman to set up a graven image that will not be shaken.

⁸ I am Jehovah. That is my name and I will not give my glory to another, nor my praise to graven images.

¹⁷ They will be turned back, they will be utterly put to shame, who trust in graven images, who say to molten images, You* are our gods.

⁶ Such as lavish gold out of the bag and weigh silver in the balance, they hire a goldsmith and he makes it a god. They fall down, yes, they worship. ⁷ They bear it upon the shoulder. They carry it and set it in its place and it stands. From its place it will not remove. Yes, he may cry to it, yet it cannot answer, nor save him out of his trouble.

⁴ They deck it with silver and with gold. They fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it not move. ⁵ They are like a palm tree, of turned work and do not speak. They must be carried, because they cannot go. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, nor is it in them to do good.
⁶ There is none like you, O Jehovah. You are great and your name is great in might. ⁷ Who should not fear you, O King of the nations? For to you it is befitting, inasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations and in all their royal estate, there is none like you.
⁸ But they are together stupid and foolish, the instruction of idols! It is but a block of wood. ⁹ There is silver beaten into plates, which is brought from Tarshish and gold from Uphaz, the work of the craftsman and of the hands of the goldsmith, blue and purple for their clothing. They are all the work of skillful men.

¹ Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and the breadth of it six cubits. He set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
² Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the satraps, the deputies and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
³ Then the satraps, the deputies and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together to the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
⁴ Then the herald cried aloud, To you* it is commanded, O peoples, nations and languages, ⁵ that at what time you* hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, trigon, psaltery, dulcimer and all kinds of music, you* fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up. ⁶ And he who does not fall down and worship will the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
⁷ Therefore at that time, when all the peoples heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, trigon, psaltery and all kinds of music, all the peoples, the nations and the languages, fell down and worshiped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
⁸ Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near and brought accusation against the Jews. ⁹ They answered and said to Nebuchadnezzar the king, O king, live forever. ¹⁰ You, O king, have made a decree, that every man who will hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, trigon, psaltery and dulcimer and all kinds of music, will fall down and worship the golden image. ¹¹ And he who does not fall down and worship, will be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
¹² There are certain Jews whom you have appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. These men, O king, have not regarded you. They do not serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up.
¹³ Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. Then they brought these men before the king. ¹⁴ Nebuchadnezzar answered and said to them, Is it of purpose, O Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, that you* do not serve my god, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?
¹⁵ Now if you* are ready that at what time you* hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, trigon, psaltery and dulcimer and all kinds of music, you* fall down and worship the image which I have made, well. But if you* do not worship, you* will be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is that god who will deliver you* out of my hands?
¹⁶ Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. ¹⁷ If it is so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.
¹⁸ But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up.

³⁷ Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are truth and his ways justice. And he is able to humble those who walk in pride.

⁸ For she did not know that I gave her the grain and the new wine and the oil and multiplied to her silver and gold, which they used for Baal. ⁹ Therefore I will take back my grain in the time of it and my new wine in the season of it and will pluck away my wool and my flax which should have covered her nakedness.
¹⁰ And now I will uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers and none will deliver her out of my hand. ¹¹ I will also cause all her joy to cease, her feasts, her new moons and her Sabbaths and all her solemn assemblies.
¹² And I will lay waste her vines and her fig trees, of which she has said, These are my hire that my lovers have given me. And I will make them a forest and the beasts of the field will eat them. ¹³ And I will visit upon her the days of the Baals, to which she burned incense when she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels and went after her lovers and forgot me, says Jehovah.

¹⁹ Woe to him who says to the wood, Awake! To the dumb stone, Arise! Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

²⁹ Therefore being the offspring of God, we ought not to suppose that God is similar to gold or silver or stone, or a carved thing from a craft and the contemplation of man.

²⁴ For a certain man, Demetrius by name, (a silversmith making miniature silver temples of Artemis), was providing not just a small business to the craftsmen; ²⁵ whom he accumulated together the other workers of such things and said, Men, you know our prosperity is from this business. ²⁶ And you view and hear, that not only from Ephesus, but almost all of Asia, this Paul has persuaded and seduced a considerable crowd, saying that they are not gods, those born through man’s hands. ²⁷ But not only is this part for us in peril and it is to go into disrepute but also the temple of the great goddess Artemis is to be counted as nothing and her majesty is about to be demolished, what the whole of Asia and inhabited-earth is worshiping.
²⁸ Now having heard this, and having become full of fury, they were crying out, saying, Great is Artemis of Ephesus.

²⁰ And the rest of mankind, who were not killed with these wounds, did not repent of the works of their hands, in order that they should not worship the demons and the golden and silver and the brass and the stone and the wooden idols; which are not able to see, nor hear, nor walk. ²¹ And they did not repent of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their stealing.

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short and the joy of the profane but for a moment?

³⁰ They were not estranged from what they desired. Their food was yet in their mouths ³¹ when the anger of God went up against them and killed of the fattest of them and killed* down the young men of Israel.

¹ He who, being often reproved, hardens his neck will suddenly be destroyed and that without remedy.

³¹ While the word was in the king's mouth, a voice from heaven fell, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom is departed from you.

³³ The same hour the thing was fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar. And he was driven from men and ate grass as oxen. And his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hair was grown like eagles' feathers and his nails like birds' claws.

¹⁹ And I will be saying to my soul, Soul, you have many good things laid up for many years; rest yourself, eat, drink, and be joyous.
²⁰ But God said to him, Fool, your soul is asked back from you in this night, and the things which you prepared, whose will they be?

¹⁴ having wiped-away the handwriting in the decrees that were against us, which were an adversary to us. He has also taken these out of the midst of us, having nailed it to the cross,

² For you yourselves know accurately that the day of the Lord so comes like a thief in the night. ³ For whenever they are saying, Peace and security; then sudden utter-destruction stands by them, just-like the travail a woman has in her womb, and they may never flee away from it.

¹² And I saw the dead, the greatest and the least, standing in the sight of the throne, and books were opened and another book was opened, which is the Book of Life and the dead were judged out of the things which have been written in the books, according to their works. ¹³ And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them and they were judged each one according to their works. ¹⁴ And death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death, which is the lake of fire. ¹⁵ And if anyone was not found, having been written in the Book of Life, he was cast into the lake of fire.

²⁰ The wicked man travails with pain all his days, even the number of years that are laid up for the oppressor. ²¹ Sound of terrors is in his ears. In prosperity the destroyer will come upon him. ²² He does not believe that he will return out of darkness. And he is awaited by the sword. ²³ He wanders abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? He knows that the day of darkness is ready at his hand. ²⁴ Distress and anguish make him afraid. They prevail against him as a king ready to the battle. ²⁵ Because he has stretched out his hand against God and behaves himself proudly against the Almighty.
²⁶ He runs upon him with a stiff neck, with the thick studs of his bucklers, ²⁷ because he has covered his face with his fatness and gathered fat upon his loins.

¹⁹ For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor. He has violently taken away a house and he will not build it up. ²⁰ Because he knew no quietness within him, he will not save any of that in which he delights. ²¹ There was nothing left that he did not devour, therefore his prosperity will not endure.
²² In the fullness of his sufficiency he will be in straits. The hand of everyone who is in misery will come upon him. ²³ When he is about to fill his belly, God will cast the fierceness of his wrath upon him and will rain it upon him while he is eating. ²⁴ He will flee from the iron weapon and the bow of brass will pass him through. ²⁵ He draws it forth and it comes out of his body, yes, the glittering point comes out of his gall. Terrors are upon him. ²⁶ All darkness is laid up for his treasures. A fire not blown will devour him. It will consume what is left in his tent. ²⁷ The heavens will reveal his iniquity and the earth will rise up against him.

²³ Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see and bow down their back continually.

¹⁸ Surely you set them in slippery places. You cast them down to destruction. ¹⁹ How they have become a desolation in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.
²⁰ As a dream from awakening, O Lord, when you waken, you will despise their form.

²⁷ None will be weary nor stumble among them. None will slumber nor sleep, nor will the belt of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken,

⁷ Therefore all hands will be feeble and every heart of man will melt. ⁸ And they will be dismayed. Pangs and sorrows will take hold. They will be in pain as a woman in travail. They will look in amazement one at another, their faces, faces of flame.

² A grievous vision is declared to me. The treacherous man deals treacherously and the destroyer destroys. Go up, O Elam. Besiege, O Media, all the sighing of it I have made to cease.
³ Therefore my loins are filled with anguish. Pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman in travail. I am pained so that I cannot hear. I am dismayed so that I cannot see. ⁴ My heart wanders. Horror has frightened me. The twilight that I desired has been turned into trembling to me.

³ Strengthen you* the weak hands and confirm the feeble knees.

¹⁷ All hands will be feeble and all knees will be weak as water.

⁷ And it will be, when they say to you, Why do you sigh? That you will say, Because of the news. For it comes and every heart will melt and all hands will be feeble and every spirit will faint and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it comes and it will be done, says the lord Jehovah.

¹ And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams. And his spirit was troubled and his sleep went from him.

¹⁹ Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. Therefore he spoke and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was accustomed to be heated.

⁵ I saw a dream which made me afraid and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.

¹⁹ Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was stricken mute for a while and his thoughts troubled him. The king answered and said, Belteshazzar, do not let the dream, or the interpretation, trouble you. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, may the dream be to those who hate you and the interpretation of it to your adversaries.

⁹ Then king Belshazzar was greatly troubled and his countenance was changed in him and his lords were perplexed.
¹⁰ Now the queen came into the banquet house because of the words of the king and his lords. The queen spoke and said, O king, live forever. Do not let your thoughts trouble you, nor let your countenance be changed.

²⁸ Here is the end of the matter. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts troubled me much and my countenance was changed in me, but I kept the matter in my heart.

¹⁰ She is empty and void and waste. And the heart melts and the knees kill* together and anguish is in all loins and the faces of them all have grown pale.

¹² Hence straighten the drooping hands and the paralyzed knees;

⁸ And it happened in the morning, that his spirit was troubled and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt and all the wise men of it. And Pharaoh told them his dream, but there was no man who could interpret them to Pharaoh.

⁴² And Pharaoh took his signet ring from his hand and put it upon Joseph's hand and arrayed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain about his neck. ⁴³ And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had and they cried before him, Bow the knee. And he set him over all the land of Egypt. ⁴⁴ And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I am Pharaoh and without you no man will lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.

⁷ And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand and they came to Balaam and spoke to him the words of Balak.

¹⁷ For I will promote you to very great honor and whatever you say to me I will do. Therefore, I beseech you, come curse this people for me.

¹¹ Therefore now flee to your place. I thought to promote you to great honor, but behold, Jehovah has kept you back from honor.

²⁵ And the men of Israel said, Have you* seen this man who has come up? Surely to defy Israel he has come up. And it will be, that the man who kills him, the king will enrich him with great riches and will give him his daughter and make his father's house free in Israel.

¹ After these things king Ahasuerus promoted Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite and advanced him and set his seat above all the rulers that were with him.

² And all the acts of his power and of his might and the full account of the greatness of Mordecai, to what the king advanced him, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia?
³ For Mordecai the Jew was next to king Ahasuerus and great among the Jews and accepted of the multitude of his brothers, seeking the good of his people and speaking peace to all his seed.

⁹ Because they will be a wreath of charm to your head and chains about your neck.
¹⁰ Your cheeks are lovely with plaits of hair, your neck with strings of jewels.

²⁵ who frustrates the signs of the liars and makes diviners mad, who turns wise men backward and makes their knowledge foolish, ²⁶ who confirms the word of his servant and performs the counsel of his messengers, who says of Jerusalem, She will be inhabited and of the cities of Judah, They will be built and I will raise up the waste places of it,

¹³ You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels. Let now the astrologers, the star-gazers, the knowers from the new moons, stand up and save you from the things that will come upon you.

¹¹ And I decked you with ornaments and I put bracelets upon your hands and a chain on your neck.

² Then the king commanded to call the magicians and the enchanters and the sorcerers and the Chaldeans, to tell the king his dreams. So they came in and stood before the king.

⁶ But if you* show the dream and the interpretation of it, you* will receive gifts and rewards and great honor from me. Therefore show the dream and the interpretation of it to me.

⁴⁸ Then the king made Daniel great and gave him many great gifts and made him to rule over the whole province of Babylon and to be chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon.

⁶ Therefore I made a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream. ⁷ Then the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans and the soothsayers came in and I told the dream before them, but they did not make the interpretation of it known to me.

¹⁴ He cried aloud and said thus, Hew down the tree and cut off its branches. Shake off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the beasts get away from under it and the fowls from its branches.

¹⁶ But I have heard of you, that you can give interpretations and dissolve doubts. Now if you can read the writing and make known to me the interpretation of it, you will be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold about your neck and will be the third ruler in the kingdom.

²⁹ Then Belshazzar commanded and they clothed Daniel with purple and put a chain of gold about his neck and made proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

² and over them three presidents, of whom Daniel was one, that these satraps might give account to them and that the king should have no damage.
³ Then this Daniel was distinguished above the presidents and the satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

⁹ But these two things will come to you in a moment in one day: the loss of sons and widowhood. In their full measure they will come upon you, in the multitude of your sorceries and the great abundance of your enchantments. For you have trusted in your wickedness. You have said, None sees me.

¹² Stand now with your enchantments and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have labored from your youth, perhaps you will be able to profit, perhaps you may prevail. ¹³ You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels. Let now the astrologers, the star-gazers, the knowers from the new moons, stand up and save you from the things that will come upon you.
¹⁴ Behold, they will be as stubble. The fire will burn them. They will not deliver themselves from the power of the flame. It will not be a coal to warm at, nor a fire to sit before. ¹⁵ Thus will be the things to you, in which you have labored. Those who have traded with you from your youth will wander each one to his quarter. There will be none to save you.

²⁷ Daniel answered before the king and said, The secret which the king has demanded, neither wise men, enchanters, magicians, nor soothsayers, can show to the king,

⁷ Then the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans and the soothsayers came in and I told the dream before them, but they did not make the interpretation of it known to me.

¹¹ Terrors will make him afraid on every side and will chase him at his heels. ¹² His strength will be weakened by hunger and calamity will be ready at his side. ¹³ The members of his body will be devoured. The firstborn of death will devour his body-parts. ¹⁴ He will be rooted out of his tent where he trusts and he will be brought to the king of terrors.

¹⁴ And he sent out his arrows and scattered them, Yes, lightnings shot out and confused them.

⁶ Trembling took hold of them there, pain, as of a woman in travail.

⁶ Wail you*, for the day of Jehovah is at hand. It will come as destruction from the Almighty.

²⁴ We have heard the report of it. Our hands grow feeble. Anguish has taken hold of us and pangs as of a woman in travail.

⁶ Ask you* now and see whether a man travails with child. Why do I see every man with his hands on his loins as a woman in travail and all faces are turned into paleness?

⁶ Then the king's countenance was changed in him and his thoughts troubled him. And the joints of his loins were loosed and his knees killed* one against another.

⁸ So I was left alone and saw this great vision. And there remained no strength in me, for my fitness was turned in me into debility and I retained no strength.

³ Now when Herod the king heard it, he was disturbed and everyone in Jerusalem with him.

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth and the great-men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every bondservant and free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains;

¹⁷ And it happened, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, Do not fear, now you will have another son. ¹⁸ And it happened, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name Ben-oni.

²⁰ And about the time of her death the women who stood by her said to her, Do not fear, for you have brought out a son. But she did not answer, neither did she regard it. ²¹ And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory has departed from Israel, because the ark of God was taken and because of her father-in-law and her husband. ²² And she said, The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God is taken.

³¹ Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth and bowed-down to the king and said, Let my lord king David live everlasting.

⁴ But you* are forgers of lies. You* are all physicians of no value.

³⁴ How then you* comfort me in vain, seeing in your* answers there remains falsehood?

⁴ Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in the Syrian language, O king, live forever. Tell your servants the dream and we will show the interpretation.

⁹ They answered and said to Nebuchadnezzar the king, O king, live forever.

⁶ Then these presidents and satraps assembled together to the king and said thus to him: King Darius, live forever.

²¹ Then Daniel said to the king, O king, live forever.

¹¹ And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he, we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.
¹² And there was a young man with us there, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard and we told him. And he interpreted to us our dreams. He interpreted to each man according to his dream. ¹³ And it happened, as he interpreted to us, so it was; he restored me to my office and he hanged him.
¹⁴ Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph. And they brought him hastily out of the pit and he shaved himself and changed his garments and came in to Pharaoh. ¹⁵ And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I have dreamed a dream and there is no man who can interpret it. And I have heard say of you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.

¹⁷ Then your handmaid said, I beseech you, let the word of my lord the king be gracious, for as a messenger of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad. And Jehovah your God be with you.

¹¹ And it is a rare thing that the king requires and there is no other who can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

⁴⁷ The king answered to Daniel and said, Of a truth your* God is the God of gods and Lord of kings and a revealer of secrets, since you have been able to reveal this secret.
⁴⁸ Then the king made Daniel great and gave him many great gifts and made him to rule over the whole province of Babylon and to be chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon.

⁸ But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. And I told the dream before him, saying, ⁹ O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you and no secret troubles you, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen and the interpretation of it.

¹⁸ This dream I, king Nebuchadnezzar, have seen. And you, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation, inasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation. But you are able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in you.

¹⁴ I have heard of you, that the spirit of the gods is in you and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.

²² Now the public was shouting out, saying, This is a voice of a god and not of a man!

¹¹ Now when the crowd saw what Paul did, they lifted up their voice, saying in Lycaonian, The gods, who are similar to men, have come down to us.

¹⁶ Now it happened, while traveling to the place of prayer, that a certain maidservant encountered us, having a spirit of divination, who was providing her lords much business by fortune-telling.

⁹ Behold, I give those from the synagogue of the Adversary, those who say they are themselves Jews and they are not, but are lying, behold, I will make them in order that they should come and should worship in the sight of your feet and should know that I have loved you.

¹ And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of Jehovah, she came to prove him with hard questions. ² And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bore spices and very much gold and precious stones. And when she came to Solomon, she spoke with him of all that was in her heart. ³ And Solomon answered to her all her questions; there was not anything hid from the king which he did not answer.

¹ And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to test Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great caravan and camels that bore spices and gold in abundance and precious stones. And when she came to Solomon, she spoke with him of all that was in her heart. ² And Solomon answered to her all her questions. And there was not anything hid from Solomon that he did not answer her.

³ As for the holy ones who are in the earth, they are the excellent in whom is all my delight.

²⁶ A righteous man is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked makes them go-astray.

²⁷ He who spares his words has knowledge and he who is of a cool spirit is a man of understanding.

⁷ And the ruler of the eunuchs gave names to them. To Daniel he gave the name of Belteshazzar and to Hananiah, of Shadrach and to Mishael, of Meshach and to Azariah, of Abed-nego.

⁸ But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. And I told the dream before him, saying,

³ Then this Daniel was distinguished above the presidents and the satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

²⁹ for which I also labor, struggling according to his working, which works in power in me.

¹ Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the sons of the captivity were building a temple to Jehovah, the God of Israel,

¹⁶ And the sons of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the sons of the captivity,
kept the dedication of this house of God with joy.

¹⁹ And the sons of the captivity kept the Passover upon the fourteenth day of the first month. ²⁰ For the priests and the Levites had purified themselves together, all of them were pure. And they killed the Passover for all the sons of the captivity and for their brothers the priests and for themselves.

⁷ And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem to all the sons of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together to Jerusalem.

¹⁶ And the sons of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest, with certain heads of fathers, after their fathers' houses and all of them by their names, were set apart. And they sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.

²¹ And Daniel continued even to the first year of king Cyrus.

²⁵ Then Arioch brought Daniel in before the king in haste and said thus to him: I have found a man of the sons of the captivity of Judah, who will make known the interpretation to the king.

² Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem, that the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, might drink from there.

¹³ Then they answered and said before the king, That Daniel, who is of the sons of the captivity of Judah, does not regard you, O king, nor the interdict that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.

¹ In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, even to me, Daniel, after what appeared to me at the first.

²⁷ And I, Daniel, fainted and was sick certain days. Then I rose up and did the king's business. And I wondered at the vision, but none understood it.

¹ And after these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee; for he was not wishing to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him.

³ Therefore his brethren said to him, Proceed from here and go into Judea, in order that your disciples may also view your works which you are doing

¹¹ There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. And in the days of your father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, were found in him. And the king Nebuchadnezzar your father, the king, I say, your father, made him master of the magicians, enchanters, Chaldeans and soothsayers, ¹² inasmuch as an excellent spirit and knowledge and understanding, interpreting of dreams and showing of dark sentences and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called and he will show the interpretation.

¹⁰ For Jehovah has poured out upon you* the spirit of deep sleep and has closed your* eyes. The prophets and your* heads, the seers, he has covered.
¹¹ And all vision has become to you* as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to a man who is learned, saying, Read this, I beseech you. And he says, I cannot, for it is sealed. ¹² And the book is delivered to him who is not learned, saying, Read this, I beseech you. And he says, I am not learned.

¹² Stand now with your enchantments and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have labored from your youth, perhaps you will be able to profit, perhaps you may prevail.

³ And the king said to them, I have dreamed a dream and my spirit is troubled to know the dream. ⁴ Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in the Syrian language, O king, live forever. Tell your servants the dream and we will show the interpretation.
⁵ The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing has gone from me. If you* do not make the dream and the interpretation of it known to me, you* will be cut in pieces and your* houses will be made a dunghill. ⁶ But if you* show the dream and the interpretation of it, you* will receive gifts and rewards and great honor from me. Therefore show the dream and the interpretation of it to me.
⁷ They answered the second time and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream and we will show the interpretation.
⁸ The king answered and said, I know of a certainty that you* would gain time, because you* see the thing has gone from me. ⁹ But if you* do not make known to me the dream, there is but one law for you*, for you* have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me till the time is changed. Therefore tell me the dream and I will know that you* can show me the interpretation of it.
¹⁰ The Chaldeans answered before the king and said, There is not a man upon the earth who can show the king's matter. Inasmuch as no king, lord, or ruler, has asked such a thing of any magician or enchanter or Chaldean. ¹¹ And it is a rare thing that the king requires and there is no other who can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

⁷ The king cried aloud to bring in the enchanters, the Chaldeans and the soothsayers. The king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whoever will read this writing and show me the interpretation of it, will be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold about his neck and will be the third ruler in the kingdom.
⁸ Then all the king's wise men came in, but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation.

⁸ And they said to him, We have dreamed a dream and there is no man who can interpret it.
And Joseph said to them, Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell it to me, I beseech you*.

⁷ The king cried aloud to bring in the enchanters, the Chaldeans and the soothsayers. The king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whoever will read this writing and show me the interpretation of it, will be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold about his neck and will be the third ruler in the kingdom.

¹⁸ But when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’hands the Holy Spirit is given, he offered them monies,

²³ that I will not take a thread nor a shoe latchet nor anything that is yours, lest you should say, I have made Abram rich,

¹³ And Elisha said to the King of Israel, What have I to do with you? You get to the prophets of your father and to the prophets of your mother. And the King of Israel said to him, No, for Jehovah has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.

¹⁶ But he said, As Jehovah lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it, but he refused.

²⁶ And he said to him, Did not my heart go with you when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to receive money and to receive garments and olive-groves and vineyards and sheep and oxen and men-servants and maidservants?

⁴⁶ I also will speak of your testimonies before kings and will not be put to shame.

²⁰ But Peter said to him, May your silver together with you be sent into destruction, because you have thought to procure the gift of God through monies!

⁸ When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of men, he set the bounds of the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel.

¹⁷ I will give thanks to Jehovah according to his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of Jehovah Most High.

² I will be glad and rejoice in you. I will sing praise to your name, O you Most High.

² Because Jehovah Most High is awesome. He is a great King over all the earth.

⁸ but you, O Jehovah, are on high everlasting.

³⁵ to turn aside the right of a man before the face of the Most High,

³⁸ Out of the mouth of the Most High does there not come evil and good?

³⁷ You, O king, are a king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power and the strength and the glory. ³⁸ And wherever the sons of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens, he has given into your hand and has made you to rule over them all. You are the head of gold.

² It has seemed good to me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked toward me.

¹⁷ The sentence is by the decree of the watchers and the demand by the word of the holy ones, to the intent that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever he will and sets up over it the lowest of men.

²² it is you, O king, who have grown and become strong. For your greatness has grown and reaches to heaven and your dominion to the end of the earth.
²³ And in what the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from heaven and saying, Hew down the tree and destroy it. Nevertheless leave the stump of the roots of it in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field. And let it be wet with the dew of heaven and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him.
²⁴ This is the interpretation, O king and it is the decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king: ²⁵ That you will be driven from men and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. And you will be made to eat grass as oxen and will be wet with the dew of heaven.
And seven times will pass over you till you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever he will.

³² And you will be driven from men and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. You will be made to eat grass as oxen and seven times will pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever he will.

²² My God has sent his messenger and has shut the lions' mouths and they have not hurt me, inasmuch as before him innocence was found in me. And also before you, O king, I have done no harm.

⁴⁸ But the Highest is not dwelling in temples made with hands; just-as the prophet says,

¹³ On the road in the middle of the day, O king, I saw a light from heaven beyond the brilliance of the sun, having shone around me and those who traveled together with me.

¹⁹ Hence, O King Agrippa, I did not become disobedient to the heavenly vision.

¹⁴ The wrath of a king is messengers of death, but a wise man will pacify it.

⁹ behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, says Jehovah and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant and will bring them against this land and against the inhabitants of it and against all these nations all around. And I will utterly destroy them and make them an astonishment and a hissing and everlasting desolations.
¹⁰ Moreover I will take from them the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp. ¹¹ And this whole land will be a desolation and an astonishment. And these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
¹² And it will happen, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, says Jehovah, for their iniquity and the land of the Chaldeans and I will make it desolate everlasting.
¹³ And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations. ¹⁴ For many nations and great kings will make bondmen of them, even of them and I will recompense them according to their deeds and according to the work of their hands.

⁵ I have made the earth, the men and the beasts that are upon the face of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm and I give it to whom it seems right to me.
⁶ And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant. And the beasts of the field I have also given him to serve him. ⁷ And all the nations will serve him and his son and his son's son, until the time of his own land comes. And then many nations and great kings will make him their bondman.

¹² For this reason the king was angry and very angry and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon. ¹³ So the decree went forth and the wise men were to be slain. And they sought Daniel and his companions to be slain.

⁴ Then the herald cried aloud, To you* it is commanded, O peoples, nations and languages,

⁶ And he who does not fall down and worship will the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

²⁰ And he commanded certain mighty men who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.
²¹ Then these men were bound in their coats, their tunics and their head coverings and their other garments and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

²⁹ Therefore I make a decree, that every people, nation and language, which speaks anything negligent against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, will be cut in pieces and their houses will be made a dunghill, because there is no other god who is able to deliver after this sort.

²² it is you, O king, who have grown and become strong. For your greatness has grown and reaches to heaven and your dominion to the end of the earth.

⁵ Yes, moreover, wine is treacherous. He is a haughty man, who does not keep at home, who enlarges his desire as Sheol and he is as death and cannot be satisfied, but gathers to him all nations and heaps to him all peoples.

¹¹ Jesus answered, You have no authority against me, except what was given to you from above. He who gave me to you has the greater sin because of this.

¹ Let every soul be subject to the authorities which are superior to him; for there is no authority if not by God, and the authorities which are, have been appointed by God.

¹⁷ As yet you exalt yourself against my people, that you will not let them go?

¹¹ Now I know that Jehovah is greater than all gods, yes, in the thing in which they dealt proudly against them.

⁶ Why then do you* harden your* hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? When he had worked wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go and they departed?

¹⁴ Notwithstanding, they would not hear, but stiffened their neck, like the neck of their fathers who did not believe in Jehovah their God.

¹³ And he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God. But he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to Jehovah, the God of Israel.

¹¹ Pour forth the overflowing of your anger and look upon everyone who is proud and humble him.
¹² Look on everyone who is proud, and bring him low and tread down the wicked where they stand.

⁵ Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to Jehovah. Hand in hand, he will not be unpunished.

¹⁸ Pride is before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.

¹² How you are fallen from heaven, O daystar, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, who laid the nations low! ¹³ And you said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven. I will exalt my throne above the stars of God and I will sit upon the mountain of congregation, in the outermost parts of the north. ¹⁴ I will ascend above the heights of the clouds. I will make myself like the Most High. ¹⁵ Yet you will be brought down to Sheol, to the utmost parts of the pit.
¹⁶ Those who see you will gaze at you. They will consider you, saying, Is this the man who made the earth to tremble, who shook kingdoms, ¹⁷ who made the world as a wilderness and overthrew the cities of it, who did not let loose his prisoners to their home?

¹ Come down and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon. Sit on the ground without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans. For you will no more be called tender and delicate.

¹⁸ You say to the king and to the queen mother: Humble yourselves. Sit down, for your* coronets have come down, even the crown of your* glory.

¹⁵ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all its towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have made their neck stiff, that they may not hear my words.

¹⁸ O you daughter who dwells in Dibon, come down from your glory and sit in thirst, for the destroyer of Moab has come up against you. He has destroyed your strongholds.

⁶ Jehovah says thus: They who also uphold Egypt will fall and the pride of her power will come down. From the Migdol to Syene, they will fall in it by the sword, says the lord Jehovah.

³⁰ The king spoke and said, Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling-place by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?
³¹ While the word was in the king's mouth, a voice from heaven fell, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom is departed from you. ³² And you will be driven from men and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. You will be made to eat grass as oxen and seven times will pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever he will.
³³ The same hour the thing was fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar. And he was driven from men and ate grass as oxen. And his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hair was grown like eagles' feathers and his nails like birds' claws.

⁵¹ He has made his dominion known with his arm. He has scattered the haughty in the perception of their heart. ⁵² He has taken down sovereigns from their thrones and has exalted the humble.

¹⁴ I say to you, This one went down to his house, having been made righteous rather than that man, because everyone who is exalting himself will be humbled, but he who is humbling himself will be exalted.

¹³ But encourage one another every day, until what is called today; in order that not anyone of you may be hardened by the deception of sin.

¹⁴ For this time I will send all my plagues upon your heart and upon your servants and upon your people, that you may know that there is none like me in all the earth. ¹⁵ For now I have put forth my hand and struck you and your people with pestilence,
and you have been cut off from the earth.
¹⁶ But indeed for this cause I have raised you up, to display in you my power and that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth.

³ They are barren with want and famine. They gnaw the dry ground in the gloom of waste and desolation. ⁴ They pluck mallows by the bushes and the roots of the juniper are their food.
⁵ They are driven forth from the midst of men. They cry out after them as after a thief, ⁶ so that they dwell in frightful valleys, in holes of the earth and of the rocks. ⁷ Among the bushes they bray, under the nettles they are gathered together.

¹⁷ Let them be put to shame and dismayed forever. Yes, let them be confounded and perish, ¹⁸ that they may know that you alone, whose name is Jehovah, are the Most High over all the earth.

²⁴ And all the trees of the field will know that I, Jehovah, have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree and have made the dry tree to flourish. I, Jehovah, have spoken and have done it.

²⁵ That you will be driven from men and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. And you will be made to eat grass as oxen and will be wet with the dew of heaven.
And seven times will pass over you till you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever he will.

³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing and he does according to his will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. And none can stay his hand, or say to him, What are you doing?

³ And Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and said to him, Jehovah says thus, the God of the Hebrews, How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me.

²³ And he did not humble himself before Jehovah, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself, but this same Amon trespassed more and more.

¹² And he did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah his God. He did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of Jehovah.

¹⁰ Let favor be shown to a wicked man, yet he will not learn righteousness. In the land of uprightness he will deal wrongfully and will not behold the majesty of Jehovah.

⁴ For John said to him, It is not legal for you to have her.

³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe in him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed in him, and the n having seen it, you did not even regret it later, that you might believe in him.

⁴⁷ But that bondservant, who knew his lord’s will and did not prepare, nor did according to his will, will be whipped with many lashes;

¹⁷ If you know these things, you are fortunate if you practice them.

⁸ Then Peter, having been filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, You rulers of the people and elders of Israel, ⁹ if we are examined today on the basis of a good work done to a sick man and by what means this one has been cured. ¹⁰ Let it be known to you all here and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ from Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised up from the dead; in him, this one who is standing in your sight is healthy. ¹¹ He is, ‘The stone scorned by you, the builders, which has become the head of the corner.’ ¹² And there is salvation in none other; for neither is there any other name, that has been given among men, in which it is essential for us to be saved.
¹³ Now viewing the boldness of Peter and John, they were marveling, having comprehended that they were illiterate and unskilled men. And they recognized them, that they had been together with Jesus.

²⁹ But Peter and the apostles answered and said, It is essential for us to obey God rather than men. ³⁰ The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you yourselves exterminated, having hanged him upon a tree. ³¹ This Jesus is the Author and Savior who God exalted to his right hand, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. ³² And we are witnesses of these words, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.
³³ But hearing this, they were being infuriated and were planning to assassinate them.

⁶ But he is giving greater grace. Hence the Scripture says, ‘God resists the haughty, but gives grace to the humble.’

¹⁷ Therefore knowing to do good and not doing it, to him, it is sin.

⁵ Likewise, the younger ones, be subject to the elder ones. But all of you be subject to one another, clothe yourselves with humility, because ‘God resists the haughty, but is giving grace to the humble.’ ⁶ Therefore humble yourselves under the powerful hand of God, in order that he may exalt you in time;

⁷ And Jehovah God formed man out of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul.

¹⁹ And he blessed him and said, Abram be blessed from God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth.

²³ And the lords of the Philistines gathered together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god and to rejoice, for they said, Our god has delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.

¹ Now the Philistines had taken the ark of God and they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. ² And the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon. ³ And when those of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah. And they took Dagon and set him in his place again.
⁴ And when they arose early on the morning of the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands lay cut off upon the threshold. Only the stump of Dagon was left to him. ⁵ Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any who come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod, to this day.
⁶ But the hand of Jehovah was heavy upon them of Ashdod and he destroyed them and killed* them with tumors, even Ashdod and the borders of it. ⁷ And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel will not abide with us, for his hand is hard upon us and upon Dagon our god.
⁸ They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines to them and said, What will we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about to Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel there. ⁹ And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of Jehovah was against the city with a very great confusion. And he killed* the men of the city, both small and great and tumors broke out upon them.

¹⁰ You have indeed struck Edom and your heart has lifted you up. Glory by it and abide at home, for why should you meddle to your hurt, that you should fall, even you and Judah with you?

¹⁰ in whose hand is the soul of every living thing and the breath of all mankind?

⁴ Does he not see my ways and number all my steps?

¹⁴ If he sets his heart upon himself, if he gathers his spirit and his breath to himself, ¹⁵ all flesh will perish together and man will turn again to dust.

²⁹ You hide your face, they are troubled. You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.

¹⁶ The heavens are the heavens of Jehovah, but the earth he has given to the sons of men.

¹⁵ The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.
¹⁶ They have mouths, but they do not speak. They have eyes, but they do not see. ¹⁷ They have ears, but they do not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouths.

³ You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.

⁴ His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth. His thoughts perish in that very day.

²⁴ A man's goings are of Jehovah, how then can man understand his way?

¹² For there will be a day of Jehovah of hosts upon all that is proud and haughty and upon all that is lifted up and it will be brought low,

¹⁰ Now I will arise, says Jehovah. Now I will lift up myself. Now I will be exalted.

¹⁹ and have cast their gods into the fire. For they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them.

²³ Whom have you defied and blasphemed? And against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Even against the Holy One of Israel.

⁵ Thus says God, Jehovah, he who created the heavens and stretched them forth, he who spread abroad the earth and what comes out of it, he who gives breath to the people upon it and spirit to those who walk in it,

²³ O Jehovah, I know that the way of man is not in himself. It is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

²⁹ Call together the archers against Babylon, all those who bend the bow. Encamp against her all around; let none of it escape.
Recompense to her according to her work. According to all that she has done, do to her. For she has been proud against Jehovah, against the Holy One of Israel.

² Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, The lord Jehovah says thus: Because your heart is lifted up and you have said, I am a god. I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas. Yet you are man and not God, though you did set your heart as the heart of God.

⁵ By your great wisdom and by your traffic you have increased your riches. And your heart is lifted up because of your riches.

¹⁷ Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty. You have corrupted your wisdom because of your brightness. I have cast you to the ground. I have laid you before kings, that they may behold you.

¹⁰ Therefore thus said the lord Jehovah: Because you are exalted in stature and he has set his top among the thick branches and his heart is lifted up in his height,

² Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem, that the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, might drink from there.
³ Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem. And the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, drank from them. ⁴ They drank wine and praised the gods of gold and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood and of stone.

⁴ Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright in him. (But the righteous man will live by his faith.)

¹⁸ What profits the graven image, that the maker of it has engraved it, the molten image, even the teacher of lies, that he who fashions its form trusts in it, to make dumb idols?
¹⁹ Woe to him who says to the wood, Awake! To the dumb stone, Arise! Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

²⁵ nor is he assisted by men’s hands, as if needy of anything, he is giving to all, life and breath in all things.

²⁸ For we live and move and are in him; as some also, according to your own poets, have said, For we are also his offspring.
²⁹ Therefore being the offspring of God, we ought not to suppose that God is similar to gold or silver or stone, or a carved thing from a craft and the contemplation of man.

²¹ because having known God, they did not glorify him as God, nor gave-thanks, but became-futile in their reasonings and their heart was darkened without understanding. ²² They were foolish, claiming to be wise, ²³ and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into the likeness of an image of corruptible man and of birds and of four footed mammals and of reptiles.

⁴ Therefore concerning the food of idol-sacrifices, we know that an idol in the world is nothing and that there is no other God except one.

⁶ not a new-convert, (in order that when he is puffed up, he might not fall into the condemnation of the devil).

¹³ And there is no created thing unapparent in his sight, but all things are naked and have been laid-bare to his eyes to whom is our account.

⁵ And a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies was given to him, and authority to make war forty-two months was given to him. ⁶ And he opened his mouth to blaspheme toward God, to blaspheme his name and his tabernacle, and blaspheme those who are residing in the heaven.

⁵ In the same hour the fingers of a man's hand came out and wrote opposite the lamp-stand upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace. And the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

¹⁴ If a man dies, will he live again? All the days of my warfare I would wait till my release should come.

¹ The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.
² Set up an ensign upon the bare mountain. Lift up the voice to them. Wave the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles. ³ I have commanded my consecrated ones, yes, I have called my mighty men for my anger, even my proudly rejoicing ones.
⁴ The noise of a multitude in the mountains, as of a great people! The noise of a tumult of the kingdoms of the nations gathered together! Jehovah of hosts is mustering the army for the battle. ⁵ They come from a far country, from the outermost part of heaven, even Jehovah and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.
⁶ Wail you*, for the day of Jehovah is at hand. It will come as destruction from the Almighty. ⁷ Therefore all hands will be feeble and every heart of man will melt. ⁸ And they will be dismayed. Pangs and sorrows will take hold. They will be in pain as a woman in travail. They will look in amazement one at another, their faces, faces of flame.
⁹ Behold, the day of Jehovah comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the land a desolation and to destroy the sinners of it out of it. ¹⁰ For the stars of heaven and the constellations of it will not give their light. The sun will be darkened in its going forth and the moon will not cause its light to shine.
¹¹ And I will punish the world for the evil and the wicked for their iniquity. And I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease and will humble the haughtiness of the terrible. ¹² I will make a man more rare than fine gold, even a man than the pure gold of Ophir. ¹³ Therefore I will make the heavens to tremble and the earth will be shaken out of its place, in the wrath of Jehovah of hosts and in the day of his fierce anger.
¹⁴ And it will happen, that as the chased roe and as sheep that no man gathers, they will turn every man to his own people and will flee every man to his own land.

¹ The burden of the wilderness of the sea. As whirlwinds in the South sweep through, it comes from the wilderness, from a terrible land. ² A grievous vision is declared to me. The treacherous man deals treacherously and the destroyer destroys. Go up, O Elam. Besiege, O Media, all the sighing of it I have made to cease.
³ Therefore my loins are filled with anguish. Pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman in travail. I am pained so that I cannot hear. I am dismayed so that I cannot see. ⁴ My heart wanders. Horror has frightened me. The twilight that I desired has been turned into trembling to me.
⁵ They prepare the table, they set the watch, they eat, they drink. Rise up, you* rulers, anoint the shield. ⁶ For thus has the Lord said to me, Go, set a watchman. Let him declare what he sees. ⁷ and when he sees a troop, horsemen in pairs, a troop of donkeys, a troop of camels, he will listen diligently with much heed.
⁸ And he cried out as a lion, O Lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime and am set in my confinement whole nights, ⁹ and behold, here comes a troop of men, horsemen in pairs. And he answered and said, Fallen, fallen is Babylon. And all the graven images of her gods are broken to the ground. ¹⁰ O my threshing and the grain of my floor! What I have heard from Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, I have declared to you*.

Remove your veil, strip off the train, uncover the leg, pass through the rivers. ³ Your nakedness will be uncovered, yes, your shame will be seen. I will take vengeance and will spare no man.
⁴ Our Redeemer, Jehovah of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.
⁵ Sit you silent and get you into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans, for you will no more be called The mistress of kingdoms. ⁶ I was angry with my people. I profaned my inheritance and gave them into your hand. You showed them no mercy. you have laid your yoke very heavily upon the aged. ⁷ And you said, I will be a mistress everlasting, so that you did not lay these things to your heart, nor remembered the latter end of it.
⁸ Now therefore hear this, you who are given to pleasures, who sit securely, who say in your heart, I am and there is none else besides me. I will not sit as a widow, nor shall I know the loss of sons. ⁹ But these two things will come to you in a moment in one day: the loss of sons and widowhood. In their full measure they will come upon you, in the multitude of your sorceries and the great abundance of your enchantments. For you have trusted in your wickedness. You have said, None sees me.
¹⁰ Your wisdom and your knowledge, it has perverted you. And you have said in your heart, I am and there is none else besides me.
¹¹ Therefore evil will come upon you. You will not know the dawning of it. And mischief will fall upon you. You will not be able to put it away. And desolation will come upon you suddenly, which you do not know.

¹¹ And this whole land will be a desolation and an astonishment. And these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
¹² And it will happen, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, says Jehovah, for their iniquity and the land of the Chaldeans and I will make it desolate everlasting.

¹ The word that Jehovah spoke concerning Babylon, concerning the land of the Chaldeans, by Jeremiah the prophet.
² Declare among the nations and proclaim and set up a standard, proclaim and conceal not. Say, Babylon is taken. Bel is put to shame. Merodach is dismayed. Her images are put to shame; her idols are dismayed. ³ For out of the north there comes up a nation against her, which will make her land desolate and none will dwell in it. They are fled. They are gone, both man and beast.
⁴ In those days and in that time, says Jehovah, the sons of Israel will come, they and the sons of Judah together. They will go on their way weeping and will seek Jehovah their God. ⁵ They will inquire concerning Zion with their faces toward it, saying, Come and join yourselves to Jehovah in an everlasting covenant that will not be forgotten.
⁶ My people have been lost sheep. Their shepherds have made them go-astray. They have turned them away on the mountains. They have gone from mountain to hill. They have forgotten their resting-place. ⁷ All who found them have devoured them and their adversaries said, We are not guilty, because they have sinned against Jehovah, the habitation of righteousness, even Jehovah, the hope of their fathers.
⁸ Flee out of the midst of Babylon and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans and be as the male-goats before the flocks. ⁹ For behold, I will stir up and cause to come up against Babylon a company of great nations from the north country and they will set themselves in array against her. From there she will be taken. Their arrows will be as of an expert mighty man; none will return in vain. ¹⁰ And Chaldea will be a prey. All who prey upon her will be satisfied, says Jehovah.
¹¹ Because you* are glad, because you* rejoice, O you* who plunder my heritage, because you* are wanton as a heifer that treads out the grain and neigh as strong horses, ¹² your* mother will be utterly put to shame. She who bore you* will be confounded. Behold, she will be the hindermost of the nations, a wilderness, a dry land and a desert. ¹³ Because of the wrath of Jehovah she will not be inhabited, but she will be entirely desolate. Everyone who goes by Babylon will be astonished and hiss at all her plagues.
¹⁴ Set yourselves in array against Babylon all around, all you* who bend the bow. Shoot at her; spare no arrows. For she has sinned against Jehovah. ¹⁵ Shout against her all around. She has submitted herself. Her ramparts are fallen. Her walls are thrown down. For it is the vengeance of Jehovah. Take vengeance upon her. As she has done, do to her. ¹⁶ Cut off the sower from Babylon and he who handles the sickle in the time of harvest. For fear of the oppressing sword they will turn each one to his people and they will flee each one to his own land.
¹⁷ Israel is a hunted sheep, the lions have driven him away. First, the king of Assyria devoured him and now at last Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones.
¹⁸ Therefore Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria. ¹⁹ And I will bring Israel again to his pasture and he will feed on Carmel and Bashan and his soul will be satisfied upon the hills of Ephraim and in Gilead.
²⁰ In those days and in that time, says Jehovah, the iniquity of Israel will be sought for and there will be none and the sins of Judah and they will not be found. For I will pardon those whom I leave as a remnant.
²¹ Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it and against the inhabitants of Pekod. Kill and utterly destroy after them, says Jehovah and do according to all that I have commanded you. ²² A sound of battle is in the land and of great destruction. ²³ How the hammer of the whole earth is cut apart and broken! How Babylon has become a desolation among the nations!
²⁴ I have laid a snare for you and you are also taken, O Babylon and you were not aware. You are found and also caught, because you have striven against Jehovah. ²⁵ Jehovah has opened his armory and has brought out the weapons of his indignation, for the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, has a work in the land of the Chaldeans.
²⁶ Come against her from the utmost border. Open her store-houses. Cast her up as heaps and destroy her utterly; let nothing of her be left. ²⁷ Kill all her bullocks. Let them go down to the slaughter. Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their visitation.
²⁸ The voice of those who flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of Jehovah our God, the vengeance of his temple. ²⁹ Call together the archers against Babylon, all those who bend the bow. Encamp against her all around; let none of it escape.
Recompense to her according to her work. According to all that she has done, do to her. For she has been proud against Jehovah, against the Holy One of Israel. ³⁰ Therefore her young men will fall in her streets and all her men of war will be brought to silence in that day, says Jehovah.
³¹ Behold, I am against you, O you proud one, says the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, for your day has come, the time that I will visit you. ³² And the proud one will stumble and fall and none will raise him up. And I will kindle a fire in his cities and it will devour all who are all around him.
³³ Jehovah of hosts says thus: The sons of Israel and the sons of Judah are oppressed together and all who took them captive hold them firm; they refuse to let them go.
³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong. Jehovah of hosts is his name. He will thoroughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth and shake the inhabitants of Babylon.
³⁵ A sword is upon the Chaldeans, says Jehovah and upon the inhabitants of Babylon and upon her rulers and upon her wise men. ³⁶ A sword is upon the boasters and they will become fools. A sword is upon her mighty men and they will be dismayed. ³⁷ A sword is upon their horses and upon their chariots and upon all the mixed people who are in the midst of her and they will become as women. A sword is upon her treasures and they will be robbed.
³⁸ A drought is upon her waters and they will be dried up. For it is a land of graven images and they are mad over idols. ³⁹ Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wolves will dwell there and the ostriches will dwell in it. And it will no more be everlasting inhabited, nor will it be dwelt in from generation to generation. ⁴⁰ As when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbor cities of it, says Jehovah, so will no man dwell there, nor will any son of man journey in it.
⁴¹ Behold, a people comes from the north and a great nation and many kings will be stirred up from the outermost parts of the earth. ⁴² They lay hold on bow and spear. They are cruel and have no mercy. Their voice roars like the sea and they ride upon horses, each one set in array, as a man to the battle, against you, O daughter of Babylon.
⁴³ The king of Babylon has heard the news of them and his hands grow feeble. Anguish has taken hold of him and pangs as of a woman in travail. ⁴⁴ Behold, the enemy will come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation. For I will suddenly make them run away from it and he who is chosen, him I will appoint over it.
For who is like me and who will appoint a time for me and who is the shepherd who can stand before me?
⁴⁵ Therefore hear the counsel of Jehovah, that he has taken against Babylon and his purposes, that he has purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely they will drag them away, even the little ones of the flock. Surely he will make their habitation desolate over them. ⁴⁶ At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth trembles and the cry is heard among the nations.

² in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years of which the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah the prophet, for the accomplishing of the desolations of Jerusalem, even the seventy years.

⁶ (let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know my integrity);

⁹ Surely men of low degree are vanity and men of high degree are a lie. They will go up in the balances. They are together lighter than vanity.

³⁰ Waste silver, men will call them, because Jehovah has rejected them.

¹⁸ Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to me. All of them are brass and tin and iron and lead, in the midst of the furnace. They are the dross of silver.
¹⁹ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Because you* have all become dross, therefore, behold, I will gather you* into the midst of Jerusalem ²⁰ as they gather silver and brass and iron and lead and tin into the midst of the furnace, to blow the fire upon it, to melt it. So I will gather you* in my anger and in my wrath and I will lay you* there and melt you*.

¹¹ But when the king came in to look at those reclining at the table, he saw a man there who has not clothed himself in wedding attire; ¹² and he says to him, Comrade, how did you come in here not having on your wedding attire? Now he was dumbfounded.

¹³ the work of each one will become apparent. For the day will indicate it, because it is revealed in fire, and the fire will test the work of each one, of what sort it is.

¹⁷ Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who will not regard silver and as for gold, they will not delight in it.

² A grievous vision is declared to me. The treacherous man deals treacherously and the destroyer destroys. Go up, O Elam. Besiege, O Media, all the sighing of it I have made to cease.

¹ Jehovah says thus to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held to subdue nations before him. And I will loose the loins of kings to open the doors before him. And the gates will not be shut. ² I will go before you and make the rough places smooth. I will break in pieces the doors of brass and cut apart the bars of iron.

³¹ And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.

²⁸ So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

³ Then I lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns. And the two horns were high, but one was higher than the other and the higher came up last. ⁴ I saw the ram pushing westward and northward and southward and no beasts could stand before him, nor was there any that could deliver out of his hand, but he did according to his will and magnified himself.

²⁰ The ram which you saw, that had the two horns, they are the kings of Media and Persia.

¹ In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans,

⁴ My heart wanders. Horror has frightened me. The twilight that I desired has been turned into trembling to me.
⁵ They prepare the table, they set the watch, they eat, they drink. Rise up, you* rulers, anoint the shield. ⁶ For thus has the Lord said to me, Go, set a watchman. Let him declare what he sees. ⁷ and when he sees a troop, horsemen in pairs, a troop of donkeys, a troop of camels, he will listen diligently with much heed.
⁸ And he cried out as a lion, O Lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime and am set in my confinement whole nights, ⁹ and behold, here comes a troop of men, horsemen in pairs. And he answered and said, Fallen, fallen is Babylon. And all the graven images of her gods are broken to the ground.

¹¹ Make sharp the arrows. Hold firm the shields. Jehovah has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because his purpose is against Babylon, to destroy it. For it is the vengeance of Jehovah, the vengeance of his temple.

³¹ One post will run to meet another and one messenger to met another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every quarter.

¹ Belshazzar the king made a great feast for a thousand of his lords and drank wine before the thousand. ² Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem, that the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, might drink from there.

¹ It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom a hundred and twenty satraps, who should be throughout the whole kingdom,
