¹ These are the words which Moses spoke to all Israel beyond the Jordan in the wilderness, in the Arabah opposite Suph, between Paran and Tophel and Laban and Hazeroth and Di-zahab. ² It is eleven days journey from Horeb by the way of Mount Seir to Kadesh-barnea.
³ And it happened in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spoke to the sons of Israel, according to all that Jehovah had given him in commandment to them, ⁴ after he had struck Sihon the King of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon and Og the King of Bashan, who dwelt in Ashtaroth, at Edrei.
⁵ Beyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, Moses began to declare this law, saying, ⁶ Jehovah our God spoke to us in Horeb, saying, You* have dwelt long enough at this mountain. ⁷ Turn and take your* journey and go to the hill-country of the Amorites and to all the places near to it, in the Arabah, in the hill-country and in the lowland and in the South and by the sea-shore, the land of the Canaanites and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.
⁸ Behold, I have set the land before you*. Go in and possess the land which Jehovah swore to your* fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob, to give to them and to their seed after them.
⁹ And I spoke to you* at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you* myself alone. ¹⁰ Jehovah your* God has multiplied you*, and behold, you* are this day as the stars of heaven for a multitude. ¹¹ Jehovah, the God of your* fathers, make you* a thousand times as many as you* are and bless you*, as he has promised you*! ¹² How can I myself alone bear your* encumbrance and your* burden and your* strife? ¹³ Take for you* wise men and understanding and known, according to your* tribes and I will make them heads over you*.
¹⁴ And you* answered me and said, The thing which you have spoken is good to do. ¹⁵ So I took the heads of your* tribes, wise men and known and made them heads over you*, captains of thousands and captains of hundreds and captains of fifties and captains of tens and officers, according to your* tribes.
¹⁶ And I charged your* judges at that time, saying, Hear between your* brothers and judge righteously between a man and his brother and the traveler who is with him. ¹⁷ You* will not respect persons in judgment. You* will hear the small and the great alike. You* will not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God's. And the case that is too hard for you* you* will bring to me and I will hear it. ¹⁸ And I commanded you* at that time all the things which you* should do.
¹⁹ And we journeyed from Horeb and went through all that great and terrible wilderness which you* saw, by the way to the hill-country of the Amorites, as Jehovah our God commanded us and we came to Kadesh-barnea. ²⁰ And I said to you*, You* have come to the hill-country of the Amorites, which Jehovah our God gives to us. ²¹ Behold, Jehovah your God has set the land before you. Go up, take possession, as Jehovah, the God of your fathers, has spoken to you. Do not fear, neither be dismayed.
²² And you* came near to me, all of you* and said, Let us send men before us, that they may search the land for us and bring us word again of the way by which we must go up and the cities to which we will come. ²³ And the thing pleased me well. And I took twelve men of you*, one man for every tribe.
²⁴ And they turned and went up into the hill country and came to the valley of Eshcol and spied it out. ²⁵ And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands and brought it down to us and brought us word again and said, It is a good land which Jehovah our God gives to us.
²⁶ Yet you* would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of Jehovah your* God. ²⁷ And you* murmured in your* tents and said, Because Jehovah hated us, he has brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us. ²⁸ Where are we going up? Our brothers have made our heart to melt, saying, The people are greater and taller than we. The cities are great and fortified up to heaven and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.
²⁹ Then I said to you*, Dread not, neither be afraid of them. ³⁰ Jehovah your* God who goes before you*, he will fight for you*, according to all that he did for you* in Egypt before your* eyes, ³¹ and in the wilderness, where you have seen how that Jehovah your God bore you, as a man bears his son, in all the way that you* went, until you* came to this place.
³² Yet in this thing you* did not believe Jehovah your* God, ³³ who went before you* in the way, to seek out a place for you* to pitch your* tents in, in fire by night, to show you* by what way you* should go and in the cloud by day.
³⁴ And Jehovah heard the voice of your* words and was angry and swore, saying, ³⁵ Surely there will not one of these men of this evil generation see the good land, which I swore to give to your* fathers, ³⁶ except Caleb the son of Jephunneh. He will see it and I will give to him the land that he has trodden upon and to his sons, because he has entirely followed Jehovah.
³⁷ Also Jehovah was angry with me for your* sakes, saying, You also will not go in there. ³⁸ Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, he will go in there. Encourage him, for he will cause Israel to inherit it. ³⁹ Moreover your* little ones, who you* said would be a prey and your* sons, who this day have no knowledge of good or evil, they will go in there and I will give it to them and they will possess it. ⁴⁰ But as for you*, turn and take your* journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.
⁴¹ Then you* answered and said to me, We have sinned against Jehovah, we will go up and fight according to all that Jehovah our God commanded us. And you* girded on every man his weapons of war and were forward to go up into the hill-country. ⁴² And Jehovah said to me, Say to them, Do not go up, neither fight, for I am not among you*, lest you* are struck before your* enemies.
⁴³ So I spoke to you* and you* did not listen, but you* rebelled against the commandment of Jehovah and were presumptuous and went up into the hill-country. ⁴⁴ And the Amorites, who dwelt in that hill-country, came out against you* and chased you*, as bees do and beat you* down in Seir, even to Hormah. ⁴⁵ And you* returned and wept before Jehovah, but Jehovah did not listen to your* voice, nor gave ear to you*.
⁴⁶ So you* abode in Kadesh many days, according to the days that you* abode there.

²¹ And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran. And his mother took a wife out of the land of Egypt for him.

¹² And the sons of Israel set forward according to their journeys out of the wilderness of Sinai and the cloud abode in the wilderness of Paran.

³⁵ From Kibroth-hattaavah the people journeyed to Hazeroth and they abode at Hazeroth.

¹⁶ And afterward the people journeyed from Hazeroth and encamped in the wilderness of Paran.

³ And Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran according to the commandment of Jehovah. All of them men who were heads of the sons of Israel.

²⁶ And they went and came to Moses and to Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh and brought back word to them and to all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.

⁵ And they said, If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. Bring us not over the Jordan.

¹⁹ For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and forward, because our inheritance has fallen to us on this side of the Jordan eastward.

³² We will pass over armed before Jehovah into the land of Canaan and the possession of our inheritance is with us beyond the Jordan.

¹⁷ And they journeyed from Kibroth-hattaavah and encamped in Hazeroth.
¹⁸ And they journeyed from Hazeroth and encamped in Rithmah.

¹⁵ The two tribes and the half-tribe have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan at Jericho eastward, toward the sunrise.

¹⁴ You* will give three cities beyond the Jordan and three cities you* will give in the land of Canaan. They will be cities of refuge.

² And he said, Jehovah came from Sinai and rose from Seir to them. He shined forth from Mount Paran and he came from the ten thousands of holy ones. At his right hand was a fiery law for them.

¹ And it happened, when all the kings who were beyond the Jordan, in the hill-country and in the lowland and on all the shore of the great sea in front of Lebanon–the Hittite and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite–heard of it,

¹⁰ and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon and to Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.

⁴ And now Jehovah your* God has given rest to your* brothers, as he spoke to them. Therefore now turn and you* get to your* tents, to the land of your* possession, which Moses the servant of Jehovah gave you* beyond the Jordan.

⁷ Now to the one half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given in Bashan, but to the other half Joshua gave among their brothers beyond the Jordan westward. Moreover when Joshua sent them away to their tents, he blessed them,

¹ And Samuel died. And all Israel gathered themselves together and lamented him and buried him in his house at Ramah. And David arose and went down to the wilderness of Paran.

³ God came from Teman and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens and the earth was full of his praise.

¹ Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the wilderness and came to the mountain of God, to Horeb.

¹⁴ And if you offer a meal offering of first-fruits to Jehovah, you will offer for the meal offering of your first-fruits grain in the ear parched with fire, crushed grain of the fresh ear.

²³ And Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting and came out and blessed the people. And the glory of Jehovah appeared to all the people.

¹⁷ I beseech you, let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or through vineyard, neither will we drink of the water of the wells. We will go along the king's highway. We will not turn aside to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your border.
¹⁸ And Edom said to him, You will not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against you. ¹⁹ And the sons of Israel said to him, We will go up by the highway. And if we drink of your water, I and my cattle, then will I give the price of it. Only let me, without doing anything, pass through on my feet. ²⁰ And he said, You will not pass through. And Edom came out against him with many people and with a strong hand.
²¹ Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border. Therefore Israel turned away from him.

⁸ Thus did your* fathers when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land.

⁴⁴ And the Amorites, who dwelt in that hill-country, came out against you* and chased you*, as bees do and beat you* down in Seir, even to Hormah.

⁴ And command you the people, saying, You* are to pass through the border of your* brothers the sons of Esau, who dwell in Seir and they will be afraid of you*. You* take good heed to yourselves therefore.

⁸ So we passed by from our brothers the sons of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah from Elath and from Ezion-geber. And we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.

²³ And when Jehovah sent you* from Kadesh-barnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you*, then you* rebelled against the commandment of Jehovah your* God and you* did not believe him, nor listen to his voice.

⁶ Then the sons of Judah drew near to Joshua in Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, You know the thing that Jehovah spoke to Moses the man of God concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh-barnea.

¹ And the sons of Israel, even the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month and the people abode in Kadesh. And Miriam died there and was buried there.

³⁸ (And Aaron the priest went up onto Mount Hor at the commandment of Jehovah and died there, in the fortieth year after the sons of Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in the fifth month, on the first day of the month.

¹ And now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and to the ordinances, which I teach you*, to do them, that you* may live and go in and possess the land which Jehovah, the God of your* fathers, gives you*. ² You* will not add to the word which I command you*, neither will you* diminish from it, that you* may keep the commandments of Jehovah your* God which I command you*.

²¹ And Israel sent messengers to Sihon King of the Amorites, saying, ²² Let me pass through your land. We will not turn aside into field, or into vineyard. We will not drink of the water of the wells. We will go by the king's highway, until we have passed your border. ²³ And Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his border, but Sihon gathered all his people together and went out against Israel into the wilderness and came to Jahaz and he fought against Israel.
²⁴ And Israel killed* him with the edge of the sword and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the sons of Ammon, for the border of the sons of Ammon was strong. ²⁵ And Israel took all these cities. And Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon and in all the towns of it. ²⁶ For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the King of the Amorites, who had fought against the former King of Moab and had taken all his land out of his hand, even to the Arnon. ²⁷ Therefore those who speak in proverbs say, Come you* to Heshbon. Let the city of Sihon be built and established. ²⁸ For a fire has gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon. It has devoured Ar of Moab, the lords of the high places of the Arnon. ²⁹ Woe to you, Moab! You are undone, O people of Chemosh. He has given his sons as fugitives and his daughters into captivity, to Sihon King of the Amorites. ³⁰ We have shot at them. Heshbon has perished even to Dibon and we have laid waste even to Nophah, which reaches to Medeba.
³¹ Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites. ³² And Moses sent to spy out Jazer. And they took the towns of it and drove out the Amorites that were there.
³³ And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan. And Og the King of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei. ³⁴ And Jehovah said to Moses, Fear him not, for I have delivered him into your hand and all his people and his land. And you will do to him as you did to Sihon King of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon. ³⁵ So they killed* him and his sons and all his people, until there was none left to him remaining. And they possessed his land.

²⁶ And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon King of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,

² Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon and ruled from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon and the middle of the valley and half Gilead, even to the brook of Jabbok, the border of the sons of Ammon, ³ and the Arabah to the sea of Chinneroth, eastward and to the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, eastward, the way to Beth-jeshimoth and on the south, under the slopes of Pisgah, ⁴ and the border of Og king of Bashan, of the remnant of the Rephaim, who dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei, ⁵ and ruled in Mount Hermon and in Salecah and in all Bashan, to the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites and half Gilead, the border of Sihon king of Heshbon.
⁶ Moses the servant of Jehovah and the sons of Israel killed* them. And Moses the servant of Jehovah gave it for a possession to the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

¹⁰ and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, to the border of the sons of Ammon; ¹¹ and Gilead and the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites and all Mount Hermon and all Bashan to Salecah; ¹² all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei (what was left of the remnant of the Rephaim), for these Moses killed* and drove them out.

²² Moreover you gave them kingdoms and peoples, which you allotted after their portions. So they possessed the land of Sihon, even the land of the king of Heshbon and the land of Og king of Bashan.

¹¹ Sihon king of the Amorites and Og king of Bashan and all the kingdoms of Canaan–

¹⁹ Sihon king of the Amorites, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
²⁰ and Og king of Bashan, because his loving kindness is everlasting,

⁸ And what great nation is there that has statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law, which I set before you* this day?

¹⁸ And it will be, when he sits upon the throne of his kingdom, that he will write for him a copy of this law in a book, out of it before the priests the Levites, ¹⁹ and it will be with him. And he will read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear Jehovah his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them,

⁹ And Moses wrote this law and delivered it to the priests the sons of Levi, who bore the ark of the covenant of Jehovah and to all the elders of Israel.

⁴⁶ And he said to them, Set your* heart to all the words which I testify to you* this day, which you* will command your* sons to observe to do, even all the words of this law.

⁶ Behold, I will stand before you there upon the rock in Horeb and you will kill* the rock and there will come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

¹ In the third month after the sons of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. ² And when they were departed from Rephidim and came to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness and there Israel encamped before the mountain.

¹¹ And it happened in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, that the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle of the testimony. ¹² And the sons of Israel set forward according to their journeys out of the wilderness of Sinai and the cloud abode in the wilderness of Paran. ¹³ And they first took their journey according to the commandment of Jehovah by Moses.

² Jehovah our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.

¹⁶ And they will come here again in the fourth generation, because the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full. ¹⁷ And it happened, that, when the sun went down and it was dark, behold, there appeared a smoking furnace and a flaming torch that passed between these pieces.
¹⁸ In that day Jehovah made a covenant with Abram, saying, To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates: ¹⁹ the Kenite and the Kenizzite and the Kadmonite ²⁰ and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Rephaim ²¹ and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Girgashite and the Jebusite.

³¹ And I will set your border from the Red Sea even to the sea of the Philistines and from the wilderness to the River. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your* hand and you will drive them out before you.

³ then your* south quarter will be from the wilderness of Zin along by the side of Edom. And your* south border will be from the end of the Salt Sea eastward. ⁴ And your* border will turn about southward of the ascent of Akrabbim and pass along to Zin. And the goings out of it will be southward of Kadesh-barnea. And it will go forth to Hazar-addar and pass along to Azmon. ⁵ And the border will turn about from Azmon to the brook of Egypt and the goings out of it will be at the sea.
⁶ And for the western border, you* will have the great sea and the border of it. This will be your* west border.
⁷ And this will be your* north border: From the great sea you* will mark out for you* Mount Hor. ⁸ From Mount Hor you* will mark out to the entrance of Hamath. And the goings out of the border will be at Zedad. ⁹ And the border will go forth to Ziphron and the goings out of it will be at Hazar-enan. This will be your* north border. ¹⁰ And you* will mark out your* east border from Hazar-enan to Shepham. ¹¹ And the border will go down from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain. And the border will go down and will reach to the side of the sea of Chinnereth eastward. ¹² And the border will go down to the Jordan and the goings out of it will be at the Salt Sea. This will be your* land according to the borders of it all around.

¹¹ but the land, where you* go over to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, and drinks water from the rain of heaven,

²⁴ Every place on which the sole of your* foot will tread will be yours*, from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even to the hinder sea will be your* border.

⁴ From the wilderness and this Lebanon, even to the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites and to the great sea toward the going down of the sun, will be your* border.

⁴⁰ So Joshua killed* all the land, the hill-country and the South and the lowland and the slopes and all their kings. He left none remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Jehovah, the God of Israel, commanded.

¹⁶ So Joshua took all that land, the hill-country and all the South and all the land of Goshen and the lowland and the Arabah and the hill-country of Israel and the lowland of the same, ¹⁷ from Mount Halak, that goes up to Seir, even to Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under Mount Hermon. And he took all their kings and killed* them and put them to death.

¹⁵ And if it seems evil to you* to serve Jehovah, choose you* this day whom you* will serve: whether the gods which your* fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you* dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovah.

³ David also killed* Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his dominion at the River.

⁹ And eastward he dwelt even to the entrance of the wilderness from the river Euphrates, because their cattle were multiplied in the land of Gilead.

³ And David killed* Hadadezer king of Zobah to Hamath, as he went to establish his dominion by the river Euphrates.

⁹ Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars and he was strong as the oaks, yet I destroyed his fruit from above and his roots from beneath.

⁷ And Jehovah appeared to Abram and said, I will give this land to your seed. And there he built an altar to Jehovah, who appeared to him.

¹⁴ And Jehovah said to Abram, after Lot was separated from him, Lift up your eyes now and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward. ¹⁵ For all the land which you see, to you I will give it and to your seed everlasting.

¹⁶ And they will come here again in the fourth generation, because the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full.

¹⁸ In that day Jehovah made a covenant with Abram, saying, To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates:

⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your seed after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you and to your seed after you. ⁸ And I will give to you and to your seed after you, the land of your travels, all the land of Canaan for an everlasting possession and I will be their God.

¹⁶ and said, I have sworn by myself, says Jehovah, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, ¹⁷ that in blessing I will bless you and in multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is upon the sea _shore and your seed will possess the gate of his enemies ¹⁸ and in your seed will all the nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.

³ Travel in this land and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and to your seed, I will give all these lands and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham your father. ⁴ And I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven and will give to your seed all these lands and in your seed all the nations of the earth will be blessed,

¹³ And behold, Jehovah stood above it and said, I am Jehovah, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie, to you I will give it and to your seed. ¹⁴ And your seed will be as the dust of the earth and you will spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed in you and in your seed.

¹⁸ You will surely wear away, both you and this people that is with you, because the thing is too heavy for you. You are not able to perform it yourself alone.

¹¹ And Moses said to Jehovah, Why have you dealt ill with your servant? And why have I not found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people upon me? ¹² Have I conceived all this people? Have I brought them forth, that you should say to me, Carry them in your bosom, as a nurturing father carries the sucking child, to the land which you swore to their fathers? ¹³ From where should I have flesh to give to all this people? For they weep to me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
¹⁴ I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.

¹⁷ And I will come down and talk with you there. And I will take of the spirit which is upon you and will put it upon them and they will bear the burden of the people with you, that you not bear it yourself alone.

⁵ And he brought him outside and said, Look now toward heaven and number the stars, if you are able to number them. And he said to him, So your seed will be.

¹⁷ that in blessing I will bless you and in multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is upon the sea _shore and your seed will possess the gate of his enemies

¹⁴ And your seed will be as the dust of the earth and you will spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed in you and in your seed.

³⁷ And the sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot who were men, besides children.

¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self and said to them, I will multiply your* seed as the stars of heaven. And all this land that I have spoken of I will give to your* seed and they will inherit it everlasting.

⁴⁶ even all those who were numbered were six hundred three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

²² Your fathers went down into Egypt, in souls, seventy. And now Jehovah your God has made you as the stars of heaven for multitude.

⁶² And you* will be left few in number, in that you* were as the stars of heaven for multitude, because you did not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God.

²³ But David did not take the number of them from twenty years old and under, because Jehovah had said he would increase Israel like the stars of heaven.

²³ Their sons you also multiplied as the stars of heaven and brought them into the land concerning which you said to their fathers that they should go in to possess it.

⁴ And I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven and will give to your seed all these lands and in your seed all the nations of the earth will be blessed,

²⁵ even by the God of your father, who will help you and by the Almighty, who will bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that couches beneath, blessings of the breasts and of the womb.

²⁷ So will they put my name upon the sons of Israel and I will bless them.

¹² And God said to Balaam, You will not go with them. You will not curse the people, for they are blessed.

³ And Joab said to the king, Now Jehovah your God add to the people, however many they may be, a hundredfold and may the eyes of my lord the king see it, but why does my lord the king delight in this thing?

³ And Joab said, Jehovah make his people a hundred times as many as they are. But, my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? Why does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of guilt to Israel?

¹⁴ Jehovah increase you* more and more, you* and your* sons.

¹³ And it happened on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people and the people stood about Moses from the morning to the evening. ¹⁴ And when Moses' father-in-law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that you do to the people? Why do you sit by yourself and all the people stand about you from morning to evening?
¹⁵ And Moses said to his father-in-law, Because the people come to me to inquire of God. ¹⁶ When they have a matter, they come to me and I judge between a man and his neighbor. And I make them know the statutes of God and his laws.

¹¹ And Moses said to Jehovah, Why have you dealt ill with your servant? And why have I not found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people upon me? ¹² Have I conceived all this people? Have I brought them forth, that you should say to me, Carry them in your bosom, as a nurturing father carries the sucking child, to the land which you swore to their fathers? ¹³ From where should I have flesh to give to all this people? For they weep to me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
¹⁴ I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me. ¹⁵ And if you deal thus with me, I beseech you, kill me out of hand, if I have found favor in your sight and do not let me see my wretchedness.

⁹ And I spoke to you* at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you* myself alone.

⁷ And now, O Jehovah my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. And I am but a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. ⁸ And your servant is in the midst of your people which you have chosen, a great people that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. ⁹ Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to judge this your great people?

¹⁹ Then you spoke in a vision to your holy ones and said, I have laid help upon a mighty man. I have exalted a chosen man out of the people.

¹⁶ to the one an aroma from death to death, but to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is sufficient in these things?

⁵ not that we are sufficient from ourselves, to reason anything as out of ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God;

²¹ Moreover you will provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating unjust gain and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties and rulers of tens,

¹⁶ And Jehovah said to Moses, Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them. And bring them to the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with you. ¹⁷ And I will come down and talk with you there. And I will take of the spirit which is upon you and will put it upon them and they will bear the burden of the people with you, that you not bear it yourself alone.

²¹ Therefore, of those men who have come together with us all the time in which the Lord Jesus entered in and went out among us, ²² having begun from the immersion of John, to the day from which he was received up from us, it is essential one of these is to become a witness together with us of his resurrection. ²³ And they stood up two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus and Matthias.

² Now the twelve called the multitude of the disciples to them and said, It is not pleasing to God for us to have left the word of God to serve tables. ³ Therefore brethren, elect out of you seven men well testified of, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we might designate over this need. ⁴ But we will be persevering in prayer and in the service of the word. ⁵ And the speech pleased the whole multitude and they themselves chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicolaus a Jewish-convert from Antioch; ⁶ whom they stood in the sight of the apostles and having prayed, they laid their hands upon them.

²⁵ And Moses chose able men out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties and rulers of tens, ²⁶ and they judged the people at all seasons. The hard cases they brought to Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.

¹⁴ And Moses was angry with the officers of the army, the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds, who came from the service of the war.

¹⁸ You will make judges and officers for you in all your gates, which Jehovah your God gives you, according to your tribes and they will judge the people with righteous judgment.

¹² And he will appoint them to him for captains of thousands and captains of fifties. And he will set some to plow his ground and to reap his harvest and to make his instruments of war and the instruments of his chariots.

¹⁸ And bring these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand. And look how your brothers fare and take their pledge.

⁷ And Saul said to his servants who stood about him, Hear now, you* Benjamites. Will the son of Jesse give every one of you* fields and vineyards? Will he make you* all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds,

¹¹ And he gave some to be : the apostles, and the prophets, and the evangelists, and the shepherds and teachers

²¹ And you will not wrong a traveler, neither will you oppress him, because you* were travelers in the land of Egypt.

² You will not follow a multitude to do evil, neither will you speak in a case to turn aside after a multitude to distort justice, ³ neither will you favor a poor man in his case.

⁷ Keep far from a false matter. And do not kill an innocent and righteous man, because I will not justify a wicked man.
⁸ And you will take no bribe, because a bribe blinds those who have sight and perverts the words of the righteous.
⁹ And you will not oppress a traveler, for you* know the heart of a traveler, because you* were travelers in the land of Egypt.

¹⁵ You* will do no unrighteousness in judgment. You will not respect the person of the poor man, nor honor the person of the mighty man, but you will judge your neighbor in righteousness.

²² You* will have one manner of law, as for the traveler, as for the home-born, for I am Jehovah your* God.

¹⁹ and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation and give him a charge in their sight.

¹⁸ He executes justice for the fatherless and widow and loves the traveler in giving him food and garments. ¹⁹ Love therefore the traveler, for you* were travelers in the land of Egypt.

¹⁸ You will make judges and officers for you in all your gates, which Jehovah your God gives you, according to your tribes and they will judge the people with righteous judgment. ¹⁹ You will not distort justice. You will not respect persons, neither will you take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.

¹⁴ You will not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is of your brothers, or of your travelers that are in your land within your gates.

¹¹ And Moses charged the people the same day, saying,

¹⁴ And Jehovah said to Moses, Behold, your days approach that you must die. Call Joshua and present yourselves in the tent of meeting, that I may give him a command. And Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves in the tent of meeting.

³ The God of Israel said, The Rock of Israel spoke to me. He who rules over men righteously, who rules in the fear of God,

⁶ and said to the judges, Consider what you* do. For you* judge not for man, but for Jehovah and he is with you* in the judgment. ⁷ Now therefore let the fear of Jehovah be upon you*. Take heed and do it. For there is no unrighteousness with Jehovah our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.
⁸ Moreover in Jerusalem Jehoshaphat set from the Levites and the priests and from the heads of the fathers of Israel for the judgment of Jehovah and for controversies. And they returned to Jerusalem.
⁹ And he charged them, saying, Thus you* will do in the fear of Jehovah, faithfully and with a perfect heart. ¹⁰ And whenever any controversy will come to you* from your* brothers who dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and ordinances, you* will warn them, that they not be guilty towards Jehovah and so wrath come upon you* and upon your* brothers. Do this and you* will not be guilty.

¹ Do you* indeed speak righteousness in silence? Do you* judge in uprightness, O you* sons of men?

²⁴ Do not judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

¹¹ Just-as you know, as we became with each one of you, like a father with his own children, encouraging you and consoling you\super\'b0

²¹ I am thoroughly testifying in sight of God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the chosen messengers, in order that you should observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing according to bias.

¹⁷ Command the rich in this current age, not to be cavalier, nor to have hope on the uncertainty of riches, but have hope in the living God, who is richly providing to us all things toward enjoyment;

²² and let them judge the people at all seasons. And it will be, that every great matter they will bring to you, but every small matter they will judge themselves. So it will be easier for yourself and they will bear the burden with you.

¹⁷ For Jehovah your* God, he is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, the mighty and the awesome, who regards not persons, nor takes reward.

⁸ If there arise a matter too hard for you in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within your gates, then you will arise and get you up to the place which Jehovah your God will choose. ⁹ And you will come to the priests the Levites and to the judge who will be in those days and you will inquire. And they will show you the sentence of judgment.
¹⁰ And you will do according to the tenor of the sentence which they will show you from that place which Jehovah will choose. And you will observe to do according to all that they will teach you,

¹⁷ You will not distort the justice due to the traveler, or to the fatherless, nor take the widow's garments to pledge,

³ Here I am. Witness against me before Jehovah and before his anointed: Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or of whose hand have I taken a bribe to blind my eyes with it? And I will restore it to you*.
⁴ And they said, You have not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither have you taken anything of any man's hand.

⁷ But Jehovah said to Samuel, Do not look on his countenance, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For Jehovah sees not as man sees, for man looks on the outward appearance, but Jehovah looks on the heart.

¹⁴ For we must die and are as water split on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; God does not take away life, but devises means that he who is banished is not an outcast from him.

⁸ So she wrote letters in Ahab's name and sealed them with his seal and sent the letters to the elders and to the nobles who were in his city, and who dwelt with Naboth. ⁹ And she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast and set Naboth on high among the people. ¹⁰ And set two men, worthless fellows, before him and let them bear witness against him, saying, You cursed God and the king. And then carry him out and stone him to death.
¹¹ And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, just-as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast and set Naboth on high among the people.
¹³ And the two men, the worthless fellows, came in and sat before him. And the worthless fellows bore witness against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth cursed God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city and stoned him to death with stones. ¹⁴ Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned and is dead.

⁶ and said to the judges, Consider what you* do. For you* judge not for man, but for Jehovah and he is with you* in the judgment.

⁶ For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing and stripped the naked of their clothing. ⁷ You have not given water to the weary to drink and you have withheld bread from the hungry. ⁸ But as for the mighty man, he had the land. And the honorable man, he dwelt in it. ⁹ You have sent widows away empty and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

¹¹ For when the ear heard me, then it blessed me and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me.
¹² Because I delivered the poor who cried, also the fatherless who had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him who was ready to perish came upon me and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.
¹⁴ I put on righteousness and it clothed me. My justice was as a robe and a diadem.
¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind and I was feet to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the needy and I searched out the case of he whom I did not know. ¹⁷ And I broke the jaws of the unrighteous and plucked the prey out of his teeth.

¹³ If I have despised the case of my man-servant or of my maid-servant when they contended with me, ¹⁴ what then shall I do when God rises up? And when he visits, what shall I answer him? ¹⁵ Did not he who made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb?
¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

³⁴ because I feared the great multitude and the contempt of families terrified me so that I kept my silence and did not go out of the door.

³ Judge the poor man and the orphan. Do justice to the afflicted and destitute man. ⁴ Rescue the poor and needy man. Deliver him from the hand of the wicked man.

²² Do not rob a poor man, because he is poor, nor oppress an afflicted man in the gate. ²³ Because Jehovah will plead their cause and despoil of life those who despoil them.

²³ These also are from the wise:
To have respect of persons in judgment is not good.

²⁵ The fear of man brings a snare, but he who puts his trust in Jehovah will be safe.

¹⁷ You therefore gird up your loins and arise and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed at them, lest I dismay you before them.

²⁸ They have grown fat. They shine. Yes, they overflow in deeds of wickedness. They do not plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper. And they do not judge the right of the needy.
²⁹ Shall I not visit for these things? says Jehovah. Shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

¹¹ Inasmuch therefore as you* trample upon the poor and take exactions of wheat from him. You* have built houses of hewn stone, but you* will not dwell in them. You* have planted pleasant vineyards, but you* will not drink the wine of it.
¹² For I know how great are your* transgressions and how mighty are your* sins–you* who afflict the just man, who take a bribe and who turn aside the needy in the gate.

¹ Woe to those who devise wickedness and work evil upon their beds! When the morning is light they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand. ² And they desire fields and seize them and houses and take them away. And they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.
³ Therefore Jehovah says thus: Behold, I devise an evil against this family, from which you* will not remove your* necks, nor will you* walk haughtily, for it is an evil time.

¹ And I said, Hear, I beseech you*, you* heads of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel. Is it not for you* to know justice? ² You* who hate the good and love the evil, who pluck off their skin from them and their flesh from their bones, ³ who also eat the flesh of my people and flay their skin from them and break their bones and chop them in pieces, as for the pot and as flesh within the caldron.
⁴ Then they will cry to Jehovah, but he will not answer them. Yes, he will hide his face from them at that time, just-as they have worked evil in their practices.

³ Their hands are upon what is evil to do it diligently. The ruler asks and the judge asks for a bribe. And the great man, he utters the evil desire of his soul. Thus they weave it together.
⁴ The best of them is as a brier. The most upright is worse than a thorn hedge. The day of your watchmen, even your visitation, has come. Now will be their perplexity.

¹⁶ And they send their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God in truth, and do not care concerning anyone’s appearance; for you do not look at the countenance of men.

¹⁴ Now when they came, they say to him, Teacher, we know that you are true and do not care concerning one’s appearance. You do not look at the countenance of men, but teach the way of God in truth. Is it legal to give tribute to Caesar or not?

²¹ And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that you say and teach correctly, and do not accept the countenance of men, but in truth, are teaching the way of God.

³⁴ Now Peter opened his mouth and said, In truth, I comprehend that God is not one who shows-favoritism ³⁵ but in every nation, he who fears him and is working righteousness, is acceptable to him.

¹¹ for there is no favoritism with God.

⁹ And the lords, do the same things toward them and be lax with the threatening; knowing that your own Lord is also in the heavens and there is no favoritism from him.

²⁵ But he who does wrong will get back what he did wrong and there is no favoritism with God.

⁴ But just-as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the good-news, so we are speaking; not as pleasing men, but it is God who tests our hearts.

¹ My brethren, do not have the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, in favoritism. ² For if a man comes into your congregation with a gold ring, in bright apparel and if a poor person in filthy apparel also comes in, ³ you may have looked upon the one who is wearing the bright apparel and may have said to him, Sit here; good; and you may have said to the poor person, Stand there or sit here under my footstool. ⁴ And did you not discern among yourselves and then became judges from evil reasonings?
⁵ Listen, my beloved brethren. Did God not choose the poor of the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to those who love him?

⁹ But if you have shown-favoritism, you are working sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.

¹⁷ And if you call upon the Father, who impartially judges according to the work of each one, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your foreign residency here;

⁵ Behold, I have taught you* statutes and ordinances, even as Jehovah my God commanded me, that you* should do so in the midst of the land where you* go in to possess it.

⁴⁰ And you will keep his statutes and his commandments, which I command you this day, that it may go well with you and with your sons after you and that you may prolong your days in the land, which Jehovah your God gives you, forever.

²⁸ Observe and hear all these words which I command you, that it may go well with you and with your sons after you everlasting, when you do what is good and right in the eyes of Jehovah your God.

³² Whatever thing I command you*, that will you* observe to do. You will not add to it, nor diminish from it.

²⁰ teaching them to observe all things, as many things as I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the earth.

²⁰ how I did not retreat back in anything of what is advantageous for you, proclaiming and teaching you in public and in every house,

²⁷ For I did not retreat back from proclaiming to you the whole plan of God.

¹⁵ who led you through the great and terrible wilderness–fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where was no water–who brought you forth water out of the rock of flint,

¹⁰ He found him in a desert land and in the waste howling wilderness. He compassed him about. He cared for him. He kept him as the apple of his eye.

⁶ Nor did they say, Where is Jehovah who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death, through a land that none passed through and where no man dwelt?

⁷ Turn and take your* journey and go to the hill-country of the Amorites and to all the places near to it, in the Arabah, in the hill-country and in the lowland and in the South and by the sea-shore, the land of the Canaanites and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.
⁸ Behold, I have set the land before you*. Go in and possess the land which Jehovah swore to your* fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob, to give to them and to their seed after them.

³⁰ And Caleb stilled the people before Moses and said, Let us go up at once and possess it, for we are well able to overcome it.

⁸ If Jehovah delights in us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows with milk and honey. ⁹ Only do not rebel against Jehovah, neither fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their defense is removed from over them and Jehovah is with us. Fear them not.

¹ When you go forth to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots, and a people more than you, you will not be afraid of them, for Jehovah your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

⁶ Be strong and of good courage, for you will cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.

⁹ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage. Do not be frightened, neither be dismayed, for Jehovah your God is with you wherever you go.

¹ Jehovah is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? Jehovah is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?
² When evildoers came upon me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell. ³ Though an army should encamp against me, my heart will not fear. Though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident.

¹ God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

⁴ And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur; ⁵ of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori; ⁶ of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh; ⁷ of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph; ⁸ of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun; ⁹ of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu; ¹⁰ of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi; ¹¹ of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi; ¹² of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli; ¹³ of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael; ¹⁴ of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi; ¹⁵ of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi. ¹⁶ These are the names of the men that Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.

²¹ So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, to the entrance of Hamath. ²² And they went up by the South and came to Hebron. And Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the sons of Anak, were there. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) ²³ And they came to the valley of Eshcol and cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes and they bore it upon a staff between two, also of the pomegranates and of the figs. ²⁴ That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the sons of Israel cut down from there. ²⁵ And they returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days.
²⁶ And they went and came to Moses and to Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh and brought back word to them and to all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land. ²⁷ And they told him and said, We came to the land where you sent us. And surely it flows with milk and honey and this is the fruit of it.
²⁸ However the people who dwell in the land are strong and the cities are fortified, very great and moreover we saw the sons of Anak there. ²⁹ Amalek dwells in the land of the South. And the Hittite and the Jebusite and the Amorite, dwell in the hill-country. And the Canaanite dwells by the sea and along by the side of the Jordan.
³⁰ And Caleb stilled the people before Moses and said, Let us go up at once and possess it, for we are well able to overcome it.
³¹ But the men who went up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we. ³² And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out to the sons of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eats up the inhabitants of it. And all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature. ³³ And we saw there the giants, the sons of Anak, who come of the giants. And we were in our own sight as grasshoppers and so we were in their sight.

²¹ So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, to the entrance of Hamath. ²² And they went up by the South and came to Hebron. And Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the sons of Anak, were there. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) ²³ And they came to the valley of Eshcol and cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes and they bore it upon a staff between two, also of the pomegranates and of the figs. ²⁴ That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the sons of Israel cut down from there. ²⁵ And they returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days.
²⁶ And they went and came to Moses and to Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh and brought back word to them and to all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land. ²⁷ And they told him and said, We came to the land where you sent us. And surely it flows with milk and honey and this is the fruit of it.

¹ And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men as spies secretly, saying, Go, view the land and Jericho. And they went and came into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab and lay down there. ² And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, men came in here tonight of the sons of Israel to search out the land.

¹ And all the congregation lifted up their voice and cried and the people wept that night. ² And all the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron. And the whole congregation said to them, Would that we had died in the land of Egypt, or would that we had died in this wilderness! ³ And why does Jehovah bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey. Were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
⁴ And they said one to another, Let us make a captain and let us return into Egypt.

²⁴ Yes, they despised the desirable land. They did not believe his word, ²⁵ but murmured in their tents and did not listen to the voice of Jehovah.

¹⁰ But they rebelled and grieved his holy Spirit. Therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and himself fought against them.

⁵¹ You are stiff-necked and non-circumcised in heart and ears. You are habitually defying the Holy Spirit, like your fathers, like you also!

³ And the sons of Israel said to them, Would that we had died by the hand of Jehovah in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, when we ate bread to the full, because you* have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

⁸ And Moses said, This will be when Jehovah will give you* flesh to eat in the evening and bread to the full in the morning, when Jehovah hears your* murmurings which you* murmur against him. And what are we? Your* murmurings are not against us, because they are against Jehovah.

³ And why does Jehovah bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey. Were it not better for us to return into Egypt?

⁵ And the people spoke against God and against Moses, Why have you* brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread and there is no water and our soul loathes this light bread.

²⁸ lest the land from where you brought us out say, Because Jehovah was not able to bring them into the land which he promised to them and because he hated them, he has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.

²⁵ but murmured in their tents and did not listen to the voice of Jehovah.

²⁴ Now he who also had received the one talant came and said, Lord, I knew you, that you are a harsh man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering from where you did not scatter;

²¹ for I was fearing you, because you are an austere man. You lift up from what you did not lay down and reap what you did not sow.

¹⁵ Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed, the mighty men of Moab. Trembling takes hold upon them. All the inhabitants of Canaan are melted away.

¹ Hear, O Israel: You are to pass over the Jordan this day, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to heaven, ² a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know and of whom you have heard say, Who can stand before the sons of Anak?

⁸ And the officers will speak further to the people and they will say, What man is there who is fearful and faint-hearted? Let him go and return to his house, lest his brother's heart melt as his heart.

⁹ And she said to the men, I know that Jehovah has given you* the land and that the fear of you* has fallen upon us. And that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you*.

¹¹ And as soon as we had heard it, our hearts melted, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man because of you*, for Jehovah your* God, he is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.

²⁴ And they said to Joshua, Truly Jehovah has delivered into our hands all the land and moreover all the inhabitants of the land melt away before us.

²² There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the sons of Israel. Only in Gaza, in Gath and in Ashdod some remained.

⁸ Nevertheless my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I entirely followed Jehovah my God.

¹⁴ And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak: Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai, the sons of Anak.

¹⁰ And Judah went against the Canaanites who dwelt in Hebron (now the name of Hebron was formerly Kiriath-arba) and they killed* Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai.

²⁰ And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had spoken and he drove out the three sons of Anak from there.

¹⁶ and Ishbi-benob, who was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David.
¹⁷ But Abishai the son of Zeruiah helped him and killed* the Philistine and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, You will no more go out with us to battle, that you not quench the lamp of Israel.
¹⁸ And it happened after this, that there was again war with the Philistines at Gob. Then Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Saph, who was of the sons of the giant.
¹⁹ And there was again war with the Philistines at Gob. And Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.
²⁰ And there was again war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature who had on every hand six fingers and on every foot six toes, twenty-four in number and he also was born to the giant. ²¹ And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, David's brother, killed him. ²² These four were born to the giant in Gath and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.

⁷ Therefore all hands will be feeble and every heart of man will melt.

⁷ And it will be, when they say to you, Why do you sigh? That you will say, Because of the news. For it comes and every heart will melt and all hands will be feeble and every spirit will faint and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it comes and it will be done, says the lord Jehovah.

¹ And Jehovah said to Moses, See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh and Aaron your brother will be your prophet. ² You will speak all that I command you and Aaron your brother will speak to Pharaoh, that he let the sons of Israel go out of his land.
³ And I will harden Pharaoh's heart and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt. ⁴ But Pharaoh will not listen to you*. And I will lay my hand upon Egypt and bring forth my armies, my people the sons of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. ⁵ And the Egyptians will know that I am Jehovah, when I stretch forth my hand upon Egypt and bring out the sons of Israel from among them.
⁶ And Moses and Aaron did so, as Jehovah commanded them, so they did. ⁷ And Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.
⁸ And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, ⁹ When Pharaoh will speak to you*, saying, Show a wonder for you*, then you will say to Aaron, Take your rod and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it become a serpent. ¹⁰ And Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh. And they did so, as Jehovah had commanded and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants and it became a serpent.
¹¹ Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers. And they also, the magicians of Egypt, did in like manner with their enchantments. ¹² For they cast down every man his rod and they became serpents, but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods. ¹³ And Pharaoh's heart was hardened and he did not listen to them, as Jehovah had spoken.
¹⁴ And Jehovah said to Moses, Pharaoh's heart is stubborn; he refuses to let the people go. ¹⁵ You get to Pharaoh in the morning behold, he goes out to the water and you will stand by the river's edge to meet him and the rod which was turned to a serpent you will take in your hand. ¹⁶ And you will say to him, Jehovah, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to you, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness. And behold, until now you have not listened.
¹⁷ Jehovah says thus, In this you will know that I am Jehovah. Behold, I will kill* with the rod that is in my hand upon the waters which are in the river and they will be turned to blood. ¹⁸ And the fish that are in the river will die and the river will become foul and the Egyptians will loathe to drink water from the river.
¹⁹ And Jehovah said to Moses, Say to Aaron, Take your rod and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their streams and over their pools and over all their ponds of water, that they may become blood and there will be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.
²⁰ And Moses and Aaron did so, as Jehovah commanded. And he lifted up the rod and killed* the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. ²¹ And the fish that were in the river died and the river became foul and the Egyptians could not drink water from the river. And the blood was throughout all the land of Egypt.
²² And the magicians of Egypt did in like manner with their enchantments. And Pharaoh's heart was hardened and he did not listen to them, as Jehovah had spoken. ²³ And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he lay even this to heart.
²⁴ And all the Egyptians dug all around the river for water to drink, because they could not drink of the water of the river. ²⁵ And seven days were fulfilled, after Jehovah had struck the river.

¹⁴ Jehovah will fight for you* and you* will keep silent.

²⁵ And he took off their chariot wheels and they drove them with difficulty, so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel, because Jehovah fights for them against the Egyptians.

¹ Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to Jehovah and spoke, saying, I will sing to Jehovah, because he has triumphed gloriously. The horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.
² Jehovah is my strength and song and he has become my salvation. This is my God and I will praise him, my father's God and I will exalt him. ³ Jehovah is a man of war. Jehovah is his name.
⁴ Pharaoh's chariots and his army he has cast into the sea and his chosen captains are sunk in the Red Sea. ⁵ The depths cover them. They went down into the depths like a stone.
⁶ Your right hand, O Jehovah, is glorious in power. Your right hand, O Jehovah, dashes the enemy in pieces. ⁷ And in the greatness of your excellency you overthrow those who rise up against you. You send forth your wrath, it consumes them as stubble. ⁸ And with the blast of your nostrils the waters were piled up. The flowing waters stood up as a heap. The depths were congealed in the heart of the sea.
⁹ The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire will be satisfied upon them. I will draw my sword, my hand will destroy them. ¹⁰ You did blow with your wind, the sea covered them. They sank as lead in the mighty waters.
¹¹ Who is like you, O Jehovah, among the gods? Who is like you, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? ¹² You stretched out your right hand, the earth swallowed them. ¹³ You in your loving kindness have led the people that you have redeemed. You have guided them in your strength to your holy habitation.
¹⁴ The peoples have heard, they tremble. Pangs have taken hold on the inhabitants of Philistia. ¹⁵ Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed, the mighty men of Moab. Trembling takes hold upon them. All the inhabitants of Canaan are melted away. ¹⁶ Terror and dread falls upon them. By the greatness of your arm they are as still as a stone, till your people pass over, O Jehovah, till the people pass over whom you have purchased.
¹⁷ You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your inheritance, the place, O Jehovah, which you have made for you to dwell in, the sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have established. ¹⁸ Jehovah will reign everlasting and forever.
¹⁹ For the horses of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea and Jehovah brought back the waters of the sea upon them, but the sons of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea.
²⁰ And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. ²¹ And Miriam answered them, Sing to Jehovah, because he has triumphed gloriously. The horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.
²² And Moses led Israel onward from the Red Sea and they went out into the wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. ²³ And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, because they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah.
²⁴ And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What will we drink? ²⁵ And he cried to Jehovah. And Jehovah showed him a tree and he cast it into the waters and the waters were made sweet. There he made for them a statute and an ordinance and there he proved them.
²⁶ And he said, If you will diligently listen to the voice of Jehovah your God and will do what is right in his eyes and will listen to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon you, which I have put upon the Egyptians, because I am Jehovah who heals you.
²⁷ And they came to Elim, where were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees and they encamped there by the waters.

²² You* will not fear them, for Jehovah your* God, he it is who fights for you*.

¹ When you go forth to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots, and a people more than you, you will not be afraid of them, for Jehovah your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
² And it will be, when you* draw near to the battle, that the priest will approach and speak to the people, ³ and will say to them, Hear, O Israel, you* draw near this day to battle against your* enemies. Do not let your* heart faint. Do not fear, nor tremble, neither be you* frightened at them. ⁴ For Jehovah your* God is he who goes with you*, to fight for you* against your* enemies, to save you*.

⁴² And all these kings and their land Joshua took at one time, because Jehovah, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

⁴⁵ Then David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of Jehovah of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
⁴⁶ This day Jehovah will deliver you into my hand and I will kill* you and take your head from you. And I will give the dead bodies of the armies of the Philistines this day to the birds of the heavens and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,

¹¹ And Asa cried to Jehovah his God and said, Jehovah, there is none besides you to help, between the mighty and he who has no strength. Help us, O Jehovah our God. For we rely on you and in your name we come against this multitude. O Jehovah, you are our God. Do not let man prevail against you.
¹² So Jehovah killed* the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah. And the Ethiopians fled.

⁸ With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is Jehovah our God to help us and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

²⁰ In whatever place you* hear the sound of the trumpet, gather you* there to us, our God will fight for us.

¹¹ And they forgot his deeds and his wondrous works that he had shown them.
¹² He did marvelous things in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. ¹³ He divided the sea and caused them to pass through. And he made the waters to stand as a heap.

⁴³ how he set his signs in Egypt and his wonders in the field of Zoan, ⁴⁴ and turned their rivers into blood and their streams, so that they could not drink.
⁴⁵ He sent among them swarms of flies, which devoured them and frogs, which destroyed them. ⁴⁶ He also gave their increase to the caterpillar and their labor to the locust.
⁴⁷ He destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamore trees with frost. ⁴⁸ He also gave over their cattle to the hail and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
⁴⁹ He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath and indignation and trouble, a discharge of messengers of evil.
⁵⁰ He made a path for his anger. He spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence, ⁵¹ and killed* all the firstborn in Egypt, the chief of their strength in the tents of Ham.

²⁷ They set among them his signs and wonders in the land of Ham.
²⁸ He sent darkness and made it dark. And they rebelled against his words.
²⁹ He turned their waters into blood and killed their fish. ³⁰ Their land swarmed with frogs in the chambers of their kings.
³¹ He spoke and there came swarms of flies and lice in all their borders.
³² He gave them hail for rain and flaming fire in their land. ³³ He also killed* their vines and their fig trees and broke the trees of their borders.
³⁴ He spoke and the locust came and the grasshopper and that without number, ³⁵ and ate up every herb in their land and ate up the fruit of their ground. ³⁶ He also killed* all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength.

⁹ Make an uproar, O you* peoples and be broken in pieces. And listen, all you* of far countries. Gird yourselves and be broken in pieces. Gird yourselves and be broken in pieces. ¹⁰ Take counsel together and it will be brought to nothing. Speak the word and it will not stand, for God is with us.

³¹ Therefore what will we say to these things? If God is working on our behalf, who is against us?

³⁷ But we are victorious in all these things through the one who loved us.

¹ And they took their journey from Elim. And all the congregation of the sons of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.
² And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness. ³ And the sons of Israel said to them, Would that we had died by the hand of Jehovah in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, when we ate bread to the full, because you* have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
⁴ Then Jehovah said to Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you* and the people will go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or not. ⁵ And it will happen on the sixth day, that they will prepare what they bring in and it will be twice as much as they gather daily.
⁶ And Moses and Aaron said to all the sons of Israel, At evening, then you* will know that Jehovah has brought you* out from the land of Egypt, ⁷ and in the morning, then you* will see the glory of Jehovah, because he hears your* murmurings against Jehovah. And what are we, that you* murmur against us?
⁸ And Moses said, This will be when Jehovah will give you* flesh to eat in the evening and bread to the full in the morning, when Jehovah hears your* murmurings which you* murmur against him. And what are we? Your* murmurings are not against us, because they are against Jehovah. ⁹ And Moses said to Aaron, Say to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, Come near before Jehovah, because he has heard your* murmurings. ¹⁰ And it happened, as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of Jehovah appeared in the cloud.
¹¹ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ¹² I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel. Speak to them, saying, At evening you* will eat flesh and in the morning you* will be filled with bread. And you* will know that I am Jehovah your* God.
¹³ And it happened at evening, that the quails came up and covered the camp. And in the morning the dew lay all around the camp, ¹⁴ and when the dew that lay had gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness a small round thing, small as the hoarfrost on the ground.
¹⁵ And when the sons of Israel saw it, they said one to another, What is it? For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, It is the bread which Jehovah has given you* to eat. ¹⁶ This is the thing which Jehovah has commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer a head. According to the number of your* persons, you* will take it, every man for those who are in his tent.
¹⁷ And the sons of Israel did so and gathered, some more, some less.

⁴ You* have seen what I did to the Egyptians and how I bore you* on eagles' wings and brought you* to myself.

¹¹ And Moses said to Jehovah, Why have you dealt ill with your servant? And why have I not found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people upon me? ¹² Have I conceived all this people? Have I brought them forth, that you should say to me, Carry them in your bosom, as a nurturing father carries the sucking child, to the land which you swore to their fathers?

¹⁴ I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.

¹⁰ He found him in a desert land and in the waste howling wilderness. He compassed him about. He cared for him. He kept him as the apple of his eye. ¹¹ As an eagle that stirs up her nest, that flutters over her young, he spreads abroad his wings. He took them. He bore them on his pinions.
¹² Jehovah alone led him and there was no foreign god with him.

¹² Moreover in a pillar of cloud you led them by day and in a pillar of fire by night, to give them light in the way in which they should go.
¹³ You also came down upon Mount Sinai and spoke with them from heaven and gave them right ordinances and true laws, good statutes and commandments, ¹⁴ and made known to them your holy Sabbath and commanded them commandments and statutes and a law, by Moses your servant.
¹⁵ And you gave them bread from heaven for their hunger and brought out water for them out of the rock for their thirst and commanded them that they should go in to possess the land which you had sworn to give them.
¹⁶ But they and our fathers dealt proudly and stiffened their neck and did not listen to your commandments, ¹⁷ and refused to obey, neither were mindful of your wonders that you did among them, but stiffened their neck. And in their rebellion they appointed a captain to return to their bondage. But you are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness and did not forsake them.
¹⁸ Yes, when they had made a molten calf for them and said, This is your God that brought you up out of Egypt and had worked great provocations, ¹⁹ yet you in your great mercies did not forsake them in the wilderness. The pillar of cloud did not depart from over them by day to lead them in the way, neither the pillar of fire by night to show them light and the way in which they should go.
²⁰ You also gave your good Spirit to instruct them and did not withhold your manna from their mouth and gave them water for their thirst. ²¹ Yes, forty years you sustained them in the wilderness, and they lacked nothing; their clothes did not grow old and their feet did not swell.
²² Moreover you gave them kingdoms and peoples, which you allotted after their portions. So they possessed the land of Sihon, even the land of the king of Heshbon and the land of Og king of Bashan. ²³ Their sons you also multiplied as the stars of heaven and brought them into the land concerning which you said to their fathers that they should go in to possess it.

¹⁴ He led them with a cloud in the daytime also and all the night with a light of fire. ¹⁵ He split rocks in the wilderness and gave them to drink abundantly as out of the depths.
¹⁶ He brought streams also out of the rock and caused waters to run down like rivers. ¹⁷ Yet they went on to still sin against him, to rebel against the Most High in the desert.
¹⁸ And they challenged God in their heart by asking food according to their desire. ¹⁹ Yes, they spoke against God. They said, Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?
²⁰ Behold, he killed* the rock, so that waters gushed out and streams overflowed. Can he give bread also? Will he provide meat for his people?
²¹ Therefore Jehovah heard and was angry. And a fire was kindled against Jacob and anger also went up against Israel, ²² because they did not believe in God and did not trust in his salvation.
²³ Yet he commanded the skies above and opened the doors of heaven, ²⁴ and he rained down manna upon them to eat and gave them food from heaven.
²⁵ Man ate the bread of the mighty. He sent them food to the full.
²⁶ He caused the east wind to blow in the heavens and by his power he guided the south wind. ²⁷ He also rained meat upon them as the dust and winged birds as the sand of the seas.
²⁸ And he let it fall in the midst of their camp all around their habitations.

³⁹ He spread a cloud for a covering and fire to give light in the night. ⁴⁰ They asked and he brought quails and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
⁴¹ He opened the rock and waters gushed out. They ran in the dry places like a river.

¹¹ He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will gather the lambs in his arm and carry them in his bosom, and will gently lead those who have their young.

³ Listen to me, O house of Jacob and all the remnant of the house of Israel, who have been borne by me from their birth, who have been carried from the womb. ⁴ And even to old age I am he and even to hoar hairs I will carry you *. I have made and I will bear, yes, I will carry and will deliver.

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted and the messenger of his presence saved them. In his love and in his pity he redeemed them. And he bore them and carried them all the days of old.

³ Yet I taught Ephraim to walk. I took them on my arms, but they did not know that I healed them. ⁴ I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love and I was to them as those who lift up the yoke on their jaws. And I laid food before them.

¹⁸ And he tolerated their mannerisms in the wilderness for approximately the time of forty years.

²⁰ And they rose early in the morning and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa. And as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah and you* inhabitants of Jerusalem. Believe in Jehovah your* God, so you* will be established. Believe his prophets, so you* will prosper.

²² because they did not believe in God and did not trust in his salvation.

²⁴ Yes, they despised the desirable land. They did not believe his word,

⁹ And the head of Ephraim is Samaria and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son. If you* will not believe, surely you* will not be established.

¹² Beware brethren, lest there will be an evil heart of unbelief in anyone of you, in withdrawing away from the living God.

¹⁸ Now to whom did he swear that they will not be entering into his rest, except to the disobedient? ¹⁹ And we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief.

⁵ But I plan to remind you, though you knowing this once for all, that the Lord, having saved people out of the land of Egypt, destroyed those who did not believe the second-time.

²¹ And Jehovah went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them the way and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light, that they might go by day and by night. ²² The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night departed not from before the people.

¹⁹ And the messenger of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them. ²⁰ And it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel. And the cloud and the darkness was there, yet it gave light by night. And the one did not come near the other all the night.

²⁴ And it happened in the morning watch, that Jehovah looked forth upon the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of cloud and troubled the army of the Egyptians.

³⁴ Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting and the glory of Jehovah filled the tabernacle. ³⁵ And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of meeting, because the cloud abode thereupon and the glory of Jehovah filled the tabernacle.
³⁶ And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the sons of Israel went onward, throughout all their journeys, ³⁷ but if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not journey till the day that it was taken up. ³⁸ For the cloud of Jehovah was upon the tabernacle by day and there was fire in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.

¹⁵ And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the tabernacle, even the tent of the testimony and at evening it was upon the tabernacle, as it were the appearance of fire, until morning. ¹⁶ So it was always: the cloud covered it and the appearance of fire by night. ¹⁷ And whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tent, then after that the sons of Israel journeyed. And in the place where the cloud abode, there the sons of Israel encamped. ¹⁸ At the commandment of Jehovah the sons of Israel journeyed and at the commandment of Jehovah they encamped. As long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they remained encamped. ¹⁹ And when the cloud stayed upon the tabernacle many days, then the sons of Israel kept the charge of Jehovah and did not journey. ²⁰ And sometimes the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle, then according to the commandment of Jehovah they remained encamped and according to the commandment of Jehovah they journeyed. ²¹ And sometimes the cloud was from evening until morning and when the cloud was taken up in the morning, they journeyed, or if by day and by night, when the cloud was taken up, they journeyed.
²² Whether it was two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud stayed upon the tabernacle, abiding on it, the sons of Israel remained encamped and did not journey, but when it was taken up, they journeyed.

¹¹ And it happened in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, that the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle of the testimony. ¹² And the sons of Israel set forward according to their journeys out of the wilderness of Sinai and the cloud abode in the wilderness of Paran.

³³ And they set forward from the mountain of Jehovah three days' journey. And the ark of the covenant of Jehovah went before them three days' journey, to seek out a resting-place for them.

¹⁴ and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that you Jehovah are in the midst of this people, for you Jehovah are seen face to face and your cloud stands over them and you go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night.

¹² Moreover in a pillar of cloud you led them by day and in a pillar of fire by night, to give them light in the way in which they should go.

²⁰ You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

¹⁴ He led them with a cloud in the daytime also and all the night with a light of fire.

³⁹ He spread a cloud for a covering and fire to give light in the night.

⁵ And Jehovah will create over the whole habitation of Mount Zion and over her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night, for over all the glory, a covering. ⁶ And there will be a pavilion for a shade in the daytime from the heat and for a refuge and for a covert from storm and from rain.

⁶ I swore to them in that day, to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands.

⁵ For I, says Jehovah, will be to her a wall of fire all around and I will be the glory in the midst of her.

²² because all those men who have seen my glory and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have challenged me these ten times and have not listened to my voice, ²³ surely they will not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither will any of them who despised me see it. ²⁴ But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land into which he went and his seed will possess it.
²⁵ Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the valley. Tomorrow turn and get into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.
²⁶ And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, ²⁷ How long shall I bear with this evil congregation that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel, which they murmur against me. ²⁸ Say to them, As I live, says Jehovah, surely as you* have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you*. ²⁹ Your* dead bodies will fall in this wilderness. And all who were numbered of you*, according to your* whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me, ³⁰ surely you* will not come into the land, concerning which I swore that I would make you* dwell in it, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

⁸ Thus did your* fathers when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land. ⁹ For when they went up to the valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the sons of Israel, that they should not go into the land which Jehovah had given them.
¹⁰ And Jehovah's anger was kindled in that day and he swore, saying, ¹¹ Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, will see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob; because they have not entirely followed me, ¹² except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun, because they have entirely followed Jehovah. ¹³ And Jehovah's anger was kindled against Israel and he made them wander to and fro in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of Jehovah was consumed.

¹⁴ And the days in which we came from Kadesh-barnea, until we came over the brook Zered, were thirty-eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the midst of the camp, as Jehovah swore to them. ¹⁵ Moreover the hand of Jehovah was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp, until they were consumed.

¹¹ Therefore I swore in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.

¹⁵ Moreover also I swore to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands,

⁸ do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, according to the day of the testing in the wilderness, ⁹ where your fathers tested me, they proved me, and then saw my works forty years. ¹⁰ Hence I was displeased with that generation and said, They themselves are habitually misled in their heart s, but they did not know my ways. ¹¹ As I swore in my wrath, they will not be entering into my rest.’

⁶ of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;

²⁴ But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land into which he went and his seed will possess it.

⁶⁵ For Jehovah had said of them, They will surely die in the wilderness. And there was not a man of them left, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

¹² except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun, because they have entirely followed Jehovah.

¹⁹ And these are the names of the men: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

⁶ Then the sons of Judah drew near to Joshua in Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, You know the thing that Jehovah spoke to Moses the man of God concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh-barnea. ⁷ I was forty years old when Moses the servant of Jehovah sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land and I brought him word again as it was in my heart.
⁸ Nevertheless my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I entirely followed Jehovah my God. ⁹ And Moses swore on that day, saying, Surely the land in which your foot has trodden will be an inheritance to you and to your sons everlasting because you have entirely followed Jehovah my God.
¹⁰ And now, behold, Jehovah has kept me alive, as he spoke, these forty-five years, from the time that Jehovah spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now behold, I am this day eighty-five years old. ¹¹ As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me. As my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war and to go out and to come in.
¹² Now therefore give me this hill-country of which Jehovah spoke in that day. For you heard in that day how the Anakim were there and cities great and fortified. It may be that Jehovah will be with me and I will drive them out, as Jehovah spoke.
¹³ And Joshua blessed him and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. ¹⁴ Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day because he entirely followed Jehovah, the God of Israel.

¹² And Caleb said, He who slays Kiriath-sepher and takes it, I will give to him Achsah my daughter as a wife. ¹³ And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it and he gave him Achsah his daughter as a wife.
¹⁴ And it happened, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field. And she dismounted from her donkey and Caleb said to her, What would you? ¹⁵ And she said to him, Give me a blessing, since you have set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

¹² And Jehovah said to Moses and Aaron, Because you* did not believe in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore you* will not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.

¹³ And when you have seen it, you also will be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was gathered, ¹⁴ because you* rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the waters before their eyes. (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)

²³ And I besought Jehovah at that time, saying, ²⁴ O lord Jehovah, you have begun to show your servant your greatness and your strong hand, for what god is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to your works and according to your mighty acts? ²⁵ Let me go over, I beseech you and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that pleasant mountain and Lebanon.
²⁶ But Jehovah was angry with me because of you* and did not listen to me. And Jehovah said to me, It will be enough for you. Speak no more to me of this matter.

²¹ Furthermore Jehovah was angry with me because of you* and swore that I would not go over the Jordan and that I would not go in to that good land, which Jehovah your God gives you for an inheritance,

⁴ And Jehovah said to him, This is the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob, saying, I will give it to your seed. I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you will not go over there.

³² They also angered him at the waters of Meribah, so that it went ill with Moses because of them, ³³ because they were rebellious against his spirit and he spoke ill-advisedly with his lips.

⁹ And Moses said to Joshua, Choose us out men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand. ¹⁰ So Joshua did as Moses had said to him and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
¹¹ And it happened, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. ¹² But Moses' hands were heavy. And they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. and Aaron and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side and the other on the other side. And his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. ¹³ And Joshua weakened Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
¹⁴ And Jehovah said to Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.

¹³ And Moses rose up and Joshua his minister and Moses went up onto the mountain of God.

¹¹ And Jehovah spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend and he turned again into the camp. But his minister Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart out of the tent.

⁸ of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun;

¹⁶ These are the names of the men that Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.

³⁰ surely you* will not come into the land, concerning which I swore that I would make you* dwell in it, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

³⁸ But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, remained alive of those men who went to spy out the land.

¹⁸ And Jehovah said to Moses, You take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit and lay your hand upon him, ¹⁹ and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation and give him a charge in their sight. ²⁰ And you will put of your honor upon him, that all the congregation of the sons of Israel may obey. ²¹ And he will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before Jehovah. At his word will they go out and at his word they will come in, both he and all the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation.
²² And Moses did as Jehovah commanded him. And he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation. ²³ And he laid his hands upon him and gave him a charge, as Jehovah spoke by Moses.

²⁸ But charge Joshua and encourage him and strengthen him, for he will go over before this people and he will cause them to inherit the land which you will see.

⁷ And Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of good courage. For you will go with this people into the land which Jehovah has sworn to their fathers to give them and you will cause them to inherit it. ⁸ And Jehovah, he it is who goes before you. He will be with you. He will not fail you, nor forsake you. Do not fear, neither be dismayed.

²³ And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a command and said, Be strong and of good courage, for you will bring the sons of Israel into the land which I swore to them and I will be with you.

¹ Now it happened after the death of Moses the servant of Jehovah, that Jehovah spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,

⁶ Be strong and of good courage, for you will cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.
⁷ Only be strong and very courageous to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you. Turn not from it, neither to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.
⁸ This book of the law will not depart out of your mouth, but you will meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it, for then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.
⁹ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage. Do not be frightened, neither be dismayed, for Jehovah your God is with you wherever you go.

²² And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, I beseech you, let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight.

²⁹ See a man diligent in his business? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before insignificant men.

³¹ But your* little ones, that you* said would be a prey, them I will bring in and they will know the land which you* have rejected.

¹⁵ Butter and honey will he eat, when he knows to refuse the evil and choose the good. ¹⁶ For before the child will know to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land whose two kings you abhor will be forsaken.

¹¹ And should not I have regard for Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand men who cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand and also much cattle?

¹¹ for the children not yet having been born, nor having practiced anything good or evil, in order that the purpose of God according to his choice might abide, not from works, but from the one who is calling.

³ among whom we also all conducted ourselves previously in the lusts of our flesh, practicing the wills of the flesh and of the mind and we were children of wrath by nature, even as the rest.

²⁵ Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the valley. Tomorrow turn and get into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.

³⁹ And Moses told these words to all the sons of Israel and the people mourned greatly. ⁴⁰ And they rose up early in the morning and got up to the top of the mountain, saying, Behold, we are here and will go up to the place which Jehovah has promised, for we have sinned. ⁴¹ And Moses said, Why do you* now transgress the commandment of Jehovah, seeing it will not prosper? ⁴² Do not go up, for Jehovah is not among you*, that you* are not struck down before your* enemies. ⁴³ For there the Amalekite and the Canaanite are before you* and you* will fall by the sword. Because you* have turned back from following Jehovah, therefore Jehovah will not be with you*.
⁴⁴ But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain, nevertheless the ark of the covenant of Jehovah and Moses, did not depart out of the camp. ⁴⁵ Then the Amalekites came down and the Canaanites who dwelt in that mountain and killed* them and beat them down, even to Hormah.

³⁴ And Balaam said to the messenger of Jehovah, I have sinned, for I did not know that you stood in the way against me. Now therefore, if it displease you, I will get back again.

³ The foolishness of a man subverts his way and his heart rages against Jehovah.

¹⁷ And I will set my face against you* and you* will be struck before your* enemies. Those who hate you* will rule over you* and you* will flee when no man pursues you*.

⁴¹ And Moses said, Why do you* now transgress the commandment of Jehovah, seeing it will not prosper? ⁴² Do not go up, for Jehovah is not among you*, that you* are not struck down before your* enemies. ⁴³ For there the Amalekite and the Canaanite are before you* and you* will fall by the sword. Because you* have turned back from following Jehovah, therefore Jehovah will not be with you*.

⁸ Oh, Lord, what shall I say after Israel has turned their backs before their enemies! ⁹ For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it and will encompass us around and cut off our name from the earth and what will you do for your great name?
¹⁰ And Jehovah said to Joshua, You get up. Why are you thus fallen upon your face? ¹¹ Israel has sinned. Yes, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. Yes, they have even taken from what was set apart and have also stolen and also dissembled. And they have even put it among their own stuff.
¹² Therefore the sons of Israel cannot stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies because they have become accursed. I will not be with you* any more unless you* destroy what was set apart from among you*.
¹³ Up, sanctify the people and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow. For Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, There is what has been set apart in the midst of you, O Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you* take away the devoted thing from among you*.

² And the Philistines put themselves in array against Israel. And when they joined battle, Israel was struck before the Philistines; and they killed of the army in the field about four thousand men.

¹⁰ And the Philistines fought and Israel was struck and they fled every man to his tent. And there was a very great slaughter, for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.

¹⁷ One thousand will flee at the threat of one. You* will flee at the threat of five, till you* are left as a beacon upon the top of a mountain and as an ensign on a hill

¹ Behold, Jehovah's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, nor his ear heavy, that it cannot hear. ² But your* iniquities have separated between you* and your* God and your* sins have hid his face from you* so that he will not hear.

¹² Though they bring up their sons, yet I will bereave them, so that not a man will be left. Yes, woe also to them when I depart from them!

⁴⁴ But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain, nevertheless the ark of the covenant of Jehovah and Moses, did not depart out of the camp.

⁷ because the mindset of the flesh is hostility toward God; for it is not subject to the law of God, for neither is it able to be; ⁸ and those who are in the flesh are not able to please God.

⁴⁵ Then the Amalekites came down and the Canaanites who dwelt in that mountain and killed* them and beat them down, even to Hormah.

³ And Jehovah listened to the voice of Israel and delivered up the Canaanites. And they utterly destroyed them and their cities. And the name of the place was called Hormah.

²⁵ Jehovah will cause you to be struck before your enemies. You will go out one way against them and will flee seven ways before them. And you will be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth.

³⁰ How should one chase a thousand and two put ten thousand to flight unless their Rock had sold them and Jehovah had delivered them up?

¹² They encompassed me around like bees. They are quenched as the fire of thorns. I will cut them off in the name of Jehovah.

¹⁸ And it will happen in that day, that Jehovah will whistle for the fly that is in the outermost part of the rivers of Egypt and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.

³⁴ When he killed them, then they inquired after him and they returned and sought God earnestly.

¹⁷ For you know thereafter that even wishing to inherit the bounty, he was rejected; for he found no chance for repentance although having sought it with tears.

³⁴ After the number of the days in which you* spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, you* will bear your* iniquities, even forty years and you* will know my alienation.

²² And they journeyed from Kadesh and the sons of Israel, even the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.

¹⁶ but when they came up from Egypt and Israel went through the wilderness to the Red Sea and came to Kadesh, ¹⁷ then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, I beseech you, let me pass through your land, but the king of Edom did not listen. And in like manner he sent to the king of Moab, but he would not. And Israel abode in Kadesh.
