⁹ When I had gone up onto the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, even the tablets of the covenant which Jehovah made with you*, then I abode on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water.

¹² And Jehovah said to Moses, Come up to me onto the mountain and be there and I will give you the tablets of stone and the law and the commandment, which I have written, that you may teach them.

¹⁵ And Moses went up onto the mountain and the cloud covered the mountain.

¹⁸ And Moses entered into the midst of the cloud and went up onto the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

¹⁸ And he gave to Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon Mount Sinai, the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.

²⁸ And he was there with Jehovah forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread, nor drank water and he wrote upon the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

¹⁵ So I turned and came down from the mountain and the mountain was burning with fire. And the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.

¹⁸ And I fell down before Jehovah, as at the first, forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your* sin which you* sinned, in doing what was evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger.

⁸ And the man of God said to the king, If you will give me half your house, I will not go in with you, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place; ⁹ for so it was charged me by the word of Jehovah, saying, You will eat no bread, nor drink water, neither return by the way that you came.

⁸ And he arose and ate and drank and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mountain of God.

²² And he answered, You will not kill* them. Would you kill* those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? Set bread and water before them that they may eat and drink and go to their master.

³¹ Behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, ³² not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not continue in my covenant and I disregarded them, says Jehovah.

² And having fasted forty days and forty nights, later he hungered.

²⁴ Which things are allegorized; for these women are two covenants; indeed one from Mount Sinai, who is Hagar, giving-birth to children into bondage.
